Top of the driver side door handle broke free from the door. The car has previously been cleared of any recall defects - but a loose door handle may absolutely have something to do with the inner workings of the door/latch and may be a safety issue.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Fiesta. The vehicle had failed to start. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle failed to reverse. The transmission warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was not safe to drive. The contact related the failure to Ford Campaign Number: 14M02. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the transmission clutch, the TCM, and the doors needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

Rear Passenger Door Latch Failed. We were forced to use a ratchet strap to return home safely due to door swinging open on turns. The safety recall for this was created in 2015 but as of June 2023 there is still not a solution from Ford. They also will not reimburse any repair done after 2017. This is unacceptable.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Fiesta. The contact stated that his vehicle was under recall NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V246000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES). The contact stated that he went to get his vehicle repaired and was advised that there were no programs in place for the recall and that they will not repair his vehicle until it was known for a fact that Ford will reimburse the dealer. The contact stated it had been a long period of time that he had been waiting to get his vehicle repaired due to recall. The failure mileage was unknown

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Fiesta. The contact stated that while driving at 45 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed however, the vehicle would not accelerate. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact veered to the side of the road and turned off the vehicle. The contact stated that as he restarted the vehicle and switched gears to drive, the vehicle would not move. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the brake calipers had seized onto the rotors. The contact stated that the brake calipers, brake pads, brake lines, and the rotors were replaced; however, the failure reoccurred intermittently while driving. The independent mechanic diagnosed that the ABS assembly needed to be replaced. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that he would be responsible for the cost of the repair since the VIN was not included in a recall related to the failure. The contact also stated that the front passenger’s door inadvertently opened while driving. The contact received a recall notification for NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V331000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages). The manufacturer was notified of the failures and referred the contact to NHTSA. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

SUPPOSE MY LITTLE NIECES WERE IN THERE OR THE DOOR FLIES OPEN AND A CAR HITS IT! I LOOKED UP HOW TO FIX WHEN I CAME ACROSS A RECALL STATING THE DOORS UNLATCH!! RECALL: 20S30 IS THE RECALL; I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE SERVICE ADVISOR STATED THEY DON?T HAVE THE ?KITS? TO FIX ALL 4 DOORS RIGHT NOW AND THEY WON?T HAVE THEM UNTIL SEPTEMBER !! IN THE MEANTIME I COULD HAVE ONE DOOR FIXED FOR ABOUT $500! I COULD SAVE MY INVOICE AND ASK FOR REIMBURSEMENT AFTER ALL DOORS HAVE BEEN FIXED; AFTER RECALL IS PERFORMED. 4/2019 FOUND OUT ABOUT DOOR RECALL. QUIRK FORD SAID THEY FIXED ALL 4 DOORS BEFORE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 9/2016 HOWEVER 4/2019 MY BACK DRIVERS SIDE DOOR LATCH BROKE AND I COULD NOT LOCK THE DOOR. IT KEPT OPENING WHILE DRIVING. FIXED IT. 10/19 MY FRONT PASSENGER DOOR HAD THE SAME ISSUE AND THE CABLE IN THE DOOR BROKE AS WELL. KEPT OPENING WHEN DRIVING EVEN THOUGH I TIED IT WITH A CORD. NOTHING HAPPENED TO THE DOORS PRIOR TO THE LATCHES FAILING. GOT THIS FIXED I AM AFRAID THIS MAY HAPPEN WITH THE OTHER DOORS AND RESULT IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. NOW MY FRONT PASSENGER DOOR IS BROKEN. HAVEN'T SEEN AN INVESTIGATION STARTED AND HAVE NOT BEEN REACHED TO ABOUT MY PREVIOUS COMPLAINT. I AM NOW WORRIED ABOUT MY CHILD AND AM SCARED EVERY TIME I PUT HER IN THE BACK SEAT I'M WONDERING WHEN WILL THIS DOOR BREAK? WHEN WILL FORD START AN INVESTIGATION AND GET THIS FIXED? DRIVER SIDE DOOR LATCH WILL NOT CATCH AND FLIES OPEN. LUCKILY WHEN THE LATCH MALFUNCTIONED I WAS IN A PARKING LOT AND NOT DRIVING. I LEFT MY CAR IN MY WORK PARKING LOT IN THE AM AND CAME OUT OF WORK IN THE PM TO REALIZE THAT MY CAR DOOR DID NOT LATCH WHEN I SHUT IT AND NO LONGER LATCHES. TOOK TO LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP (LANCE CUNNINGHAM FORD - KNOXVILLE TN) AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE 456.00 TO FIX. WHEN ASKED ABOUT THE RECALL FOR THE EXACT PROBLEM (SAFETY RECALL 15S16) I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR DID NOT QUALIFY. THE CAR HAS 45,600 MILES ON IT.

THE FIRST TIME WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE THE HIGHWAY, THE SECOND TIME WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE CITY STREET, THE THIRD TIME WHEN I MADE A RIGHT TURN ON THE CITY STREET AND THE 4TH TIME DRIVING HOME ON THE CITY STREET. I HAVE HAD TO ATTACH CORDS TO MY DOORS TO KEEP THEM CLOSED EACH TIME THEY HAVE SWUNG OPEN. I TOOK THE CAR TO GWINNETT PLACE FORD 3 TIMES BUT THE 4TH TIME I TOOK THE CAR TO ANGELA KRAUS FORD TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE. MY CHILDREN HAVE BEEN IN THIS VEHICLE WITH THE DOOR LATCH FAILING. INSTEAD OF FORD GETTING ME OUT THAT VEHICLE AND REPLACING IT WITH ANOTHER WITH THE SAME VALUE THEY INSTEAD TREATED ME TWICE AS IF I WAS A REGULAR CUSTOMER TRADING IN THE CAR AND I WAS ASKED TO PUT MONEY DOWN FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE AND ADD A CO-SIGNER, WHICH I DON'T HAVE SO I WAS DENIED ANOTHER VEHICLE. I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM US AUTO SALES AND THEY TOO ALLOWED ME TO DRIVE AWAY FROM THE LOT WITH CORDS HOLDING MY DOOR TOGETHER BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T APPROVE ME FOR ANOTHER CAR. IN 5/2018 THE DOOR LATCH ON THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE FAILED, MY DAUGHTER, WHO WAS GOING TO SCHOOL AWAY FROM HOME, WAS PARKED ON THE STREET AND AS SOON AS SHE PULLED INTO TRAFFIC HER DOOR FLEW OPEN AND WOULD NOT STAY CLOSED ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I DID HAVE THE LATCH REPLACED AT A REPAIR SHOP SINCE FORD WASN'T ABLE TO FIX IT RIGHT AWAY AND IT NEEDED TO BE FIXED ASAP. WHEN MY DAUGHTER RETURNED HOME FROM SCHOOL A FEW WEEKS LATER I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED COMPLAINING ABOUT THE FAULTY LATCH WANTING TO KNOW HOW IT COULD HAVE FAILED AND EXPRESSING MY CONCERN OF THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. THEY HAD NO ANSWER FOR THE FAILURE AND ALSO SAID THAT THE "WARRANTY ON THE RECALL PART HAD ELAPSED AND ONCE THE RECALL WAS COMPLETED ANY OBLIGATION ON FORD'S PART WAS OVER". I FOUND THIS UNACCEPTABLE AND THEY SUGGESTED I VOICE MY COMPLAINTS TO FORD OWNER RELATIONS, WHICH I DID. I CONTACTED THEM AND VOICED MY CONCERN ABOUT THE RECALL PART FAILING AFTER 2 1/2 YEARS. I SAID THAT SOMETHING MUST STILL BE WRONG WITH THE LATCHES FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. I ALSO REQUESTED ASSURANCE OF THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE GOING FORWARD AND ASKING IF THEY WILL BE RESPONSIBLE SHOULD THIS HAPPEN AGAIN AND THIS TIME WITH A MORE SERIOUS OUTCOME? I ALSO ASKED SINCE THE FAILED LATCH WAS REPLACED AT AN OUTSIDE SHOP AND NOT FORD WOULD FORD BE RESPONSIBLE IF THAT ONE WERE TO FAIL? THEIR RESPONSE WAS, "UNFORTUNATELY, I AM UNABLE TO PROVIDE YOU WITH THE INFORMATION YOU ARE REQUESTING". THEY THEN SUGGESTED CONTACTING NHTSA. I LET THEM KNOW THAT I WAS VERY UPSET THAT NOBODY WILL TAKE RESPONSIBILITY OR GIVE ME A REASON FOR THE FAILED LATCH OR CAN ASSURE ME OF THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE IN THE FUTURE. ACCORDING TO DEALERSHIP THAT PERFORMED RECALL THEY STATE THEY REPLACED ALL FOUR DOOR LATCHES HOWEVER THE LEFT REAR DOOR (DRIVER) IS NOW HAVING THE SAME LATCH ISSUE. DOOR WILL NOT SHUT AND NEEDS TO BE HELD CLOSED WITH DEVICES TO REMAIN SHUT TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE. 2 DEALERSHIPS REFUSE TO PERFORM ANOTHER REPLACEMENT WITHOUT FEE. DOCUMENT ARE AVAILABLE IF NEEDED HOWEVER THEY ARE NOT SCANNED INTO THIS COMPUTER AND CAN NOT BE UPLOADED AT THIS TIME.

ALL 4 DOOR LATCHES WERE REPLACED ON 23 MAY 2015 UNDER RECALL #15S16. AT THAT TIME, THE CAR HAD 44,592 MILES. ON MONDAY, 23 APRIL 2018, THE DRIVER'S DOOR REFUSED TO LATCH. WHEN YOU TRIED TO CLOSE IT, IF FLEW OPEN AGAIN. THE CAR NOW HAS 66754 MILES. IT SEEMS THAT THE ORIGINAL LATCHES WERE BETTER THAN THE REPLACEMENT LATCHES. FORTUNATELY, THIS HAPPENED AS I WAS PREPARING TO LEAVE THE HOUSE. WE DUCT TAPED THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE AND TOOK IT TO THE GARAGE, NO RECALL, MORE THAN A YEAR SINCE REPLACEMENT, FORD DENIES RESPONSIBILITY. I WANTED TO REPORT THIS I CASE OTHERS HAD THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE TO FIX IT, IT IS COSTING ME OVER $350.

WE RECEIVED A LETTER INFORMING US WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS BUT PART WAS NOT YET AVAILABLE FOR REPAIR. LATCH WAS FIXED IN JANUARY OF 2016. JULY 21ST 2017, REAR LEFT PASSENGER DOOR, WITH A PASSENGER IN THE SEAT, FLUNG OPEN WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN ON A CITY STREET, DOOR WOULD NOT LATCH AND STAY CLOSED. FORD WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR WHEN WE FIRST BROUGHT IT IN BECAUSE THE REPLACEMENT WAS OUT OF THE 1 YEAR WARRANTY. JULY 25, 2017 WERE QUOTED $300 TO GET THE LATCH FIXED. AFTER COMPLAINING WITH FORD AND FORD SERVICE MANAGER WE WERE QUOTED $150, ONLY 1 YEAR WARRANTY. THAT TELLS ME FORD IS NOT CONFIDENT IN THERE PRODUCT OR REPAIR TO ONLY GIVE A 1 YEAR WARRANTY. THE LATCHES WERE APPARENTLY THE NEW AND IMPROVED BUT IT MALFUNCTIONED 17 MONTHS LATER, UNACCEPTABLE, THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL AS OF AUGUST 1, 2017 FOR THE REPLACED LATCHES.

THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V246000 (STRUCTURE), HOWEVER THE PARTS TO REMEDY THE VEHICLE WHERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE CASE WAS BEING REVIEWED. THE CONTACT FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000.

THEY EXAMINED MY FORD FOR ITS TRADE-IN VALUE. THE MANAGER, WHO WAS A FORMER CARMAX MANAGER, EXAMINED THE CAR AND INFORMED ME THAT MY FORD FIESTA HAS UNIBODY DAMAGE. THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE AS BE REPLACED. THE CAR HAS UNIBODY DAMAGE WAS NOT DISCLOSED TO ME WHEN I PURCHASED THIS CAR ON DECEMBER 23, 2015. I PURCHASED THE CAR FOR $14,000, WHICH IS FAR ABOVE THE BLUE BOOK VALUE OF $9,419. IN MARCH 2016, I BOUGHT THE CAR TO CARMAX IN LAUREL FOR OVERHEATING. THE HEAT PUMP WAS REPLACED FOR $250. ADDITIONALLY, ON SEPTEMBER 15TH, I PAID FOR REPAIRS AT THE CARMAX GAITHERSBURG STORE. THE REPAIRS WERE FOR THE FOLLOWING: 1-FRONT PASSENGER DOOR LATCH;2-TRUCK LATCH; AND 3-HORN I WAS CHARGED $250 TO REPAIR CRITICAL SAFETY FEATURES. WHILE THE CAR WAS IN GAITHERSBURG, THE BATTERY DRAINED. THE CAR DOOR COULD NOT CLOSE, SO THE INTERIOR LIGHTS REMAINED ON. I REPORTED THE DOOR LATCH PROBLEMS ON MONDAY, AUGUST 29TH. THE CAR WAS IN PARK. MY SISTER AND I WERE TRYING TO LEAVE FOR CHURCH AND THE DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE. HOWEVER, I WAS NOT GIVEN AN APPOINTMENT UNTIL SEPTEMBER 8TH IN GAITHERSBURG AND SEPTEMBER 13TH IN LAUREL. THAT WAS QUITE A LONG TIME TO WAIT FOR SUCH A CRITICAL ISSUE. I WOULD HAVE NEVER PURCHASED A CAR WITH UNIBODY DAMAGE HAD IT BEEN DISCLOSED. TO BE CHARGED FOR A RECALL ITEM THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPAIRED PRIOR TO PURCHASE, IS UNCONSCIONABLE. BACKGROUND: NHTSA CASE NO. 861644 , RECALL NO. 15V246000 ON SEPTEMBER 15, 2015, THE FRONT RIGHT DOOR OF MY VEHICLE FAILED TO LATCH WHILE I WAS UNLOADING GROCERIES WHILE PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY. THIS PROBLEM WAS FIXED BY SHAMALEY FORD AS A RECALL REPAIR. IN SEPTEMBER 2015, SHAMALEY FORD STATED TO ME, AND APPARENTLY ALSO TO FORD MOTOR CO., THAT ALL FOUR DOOR LATCHES WERE REPLACED, NOT JUST THE FRONT RIGHT DOOR LATCH THAT FAILED. ON JULY 31, 2016, I PUT ONE BAG OF GROCERIES IN THE BACK SEAT AND, I THOUGHT, CLOSED THE REAR LEFT DOOR. I DROVE OUT OF THE PARKING LOT. ABOUT A HALF-BLOCK AWAY, I SAW A DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHT THAT MY REAR LEFT DOOR WAS NOT CLOSED. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND ATTEMPTED TO CLOSE THE DOOR. I COULD NOT CLOSE THE DOOR. THE LATCH OF THE REAR LEFT DOOR OF THE VEHICLE FAILED. I DO NOT KNOW IF THE REAR LEFT DOOR CAME UNLATCHED WHILE I WAS DRIVING, OR IF I FAILED TO NOTICE THE LATCH FAILURE IN THE PARKING LOT BEFORE DRIVING OFF. THE LEFT REAR DOOR IS HELD CLOSED AT THIS TIME BY A BUNGEE CORD BETWEEN THE DOOR ARM REST AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT HEAD REST. THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR, WHERE MY SON SITS IN HIS BOOSTER, STOPPED CLOSING ONE AFTERNOON ON OUR WAY TO HIS SOCCER GAME. I USED A PIECE OF ROPE TO TIE THE DOOR ACROSS THE CAR TO THE DOOR OPPOSITE UNTIL I COULD GET MY CAR INTO THE FORD DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND SAW AN ARTICLE REGARDING OTHER 2013 FORD FIESTA'S HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. I TOOK MY VEHICLE THE NEXT DAY TO THE DEALERSHIP AND SINCE I WAS THERE I LET THEM KNOW THAT MY CAR, WHICH ONLY HAD 15K MILES ON IT, HAS A PROBLEM WITH ACCELERATION. WHEN I ACCELERATE I HEAR AN AIRY SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE AND I LOSE POWER SO THAT I ACCELERATE VERY SLOWLY. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE WHEN GETTING ONTO THE HIGHWAY. I WAS ADVISED WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR THAT THE LOCK WAS A RECALL ITEM AS WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE COOLING SYSTEM THAT THEY FIXED. IN ADDITION, WHEN THEY CHECKED FOR THE AIRY SOUND THEY FOUND I HAVE A BAD TRANSMISSION. MY SERVICE REP SAID THE TRANSMISSION WAS ON BACK ORDER FOR 30 DAYS. THAT WAS MAY 2015. TODAY IS 11/2/2015 AND I STILL DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO REPLACE MY TRANSMISSION. I HAVE ASKED SEVERAL TIMES IF I COULD HAVE A RENTAL CAR OR BORROW A CAR FROM FORD UNTIL MY TRANSMISSION IS FIXED DUE TO THE LOW ACCELERATION AND HAVE BEEN TOLD TIME AND AGAIN THAT THEY CAN NOT "AUTHORIZE" IT.

I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH WHEN THE RIGHT REAR DOOR OF MY VEHICLE FLEW OPEN RAPIDLY. I WAS AFRAID OF THE DOOR STRIKING ANOTHER VEHICLE OR INJURING MY PASSENGER AND HAD TO QUICKLY PULL OVER. IN ORDER TO PULL OVER SAFELY, THE PASSENGER WAS FORCED TO GRAB AHOLD OF THE DOOR SO THAT I COULD STEER THE VEHICLE OUT OF TRAFFIC. ONCE I REACHED THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WE EXAMINED THE DOOR, AT FIRST THINKING THAT PERHAPS IT HAD BEEN IMPROPERLY SHUT. WE DISCOVERED, IN FACT, THAT WAS NOT THE CASE. THERE WAS SOME DEFECT IN THE CAR THAT CAUSED THE DOOR TO FLY OPEN WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVABLE AS-IS BECAUSE THE DOOR WOULD NOT LATCH SO WE HAD TO TIE THE DOOR SHUT FROM THE INTERIOR TO DRIVE IT HOME SAFELY. THE DEALERSHIP MECHANIC WAS NOT OPEN AT THAT TIME. ONCE HOME, I COULD NOT ACTIVATE THE ALARM SYSTEM SO THE CAR SAT UNLOCKED OVERNIGHT WITH THE INTERIOR LIGHTS ON. THE LIGHTS WOULD NOT SHUT OFF BECAUSE THE DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE. I DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP MECHANIC AS SOON AS THEY OPENED THE NEXT MORNING AND HAD TO MISS HALF A DAY OF WORK BECAUSE OF THE ISSUE. IT TOOK SEVERAL HOURS FOR THE DEALERSHIP MECHANICS TO FIX THE LATCH AND THEY REFERRED ME TO FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO VOICE MY COMPLAINTS AND CONCERNS ABOUT A DEFECT THAT CAUSED ME TO FEAR FOR MY SAFETY AND THAT OF MY PASSENGER. I FILED A CLAIM WITH FMC. TWO WEEKS LATER I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY SAYING THAT MY CASE HAD BEEN CLOSED. I ASKED TO HAVE THE FINAL FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR REPLACED AS WELL AND HE SAID THEY COULDN'T DO IT UNLESS FORD RECALLED THE PARTS OR IT WAS BROKEN. I EXPLAINED THAT THIS WAS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT THERE WAS OBVIOUSLY SOMETHING WRONG. I ALSO CALLED FORD, AND SPOKE TO THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE.
