Transmission control module failure
Request Reversal of Recall Cancellation by the Ford Dealer. RE: Safety Recall Notice 20S30/NHTSA Recall 20V-331 VIN [XXX] ***IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL *** I have been working with the Service Manager, Forest at James Hodge Ford in Muskogee, Oklahoma, (1-918-682-1345) and Ford Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332. In March of 2025, an inspection was completed on my 2013 Ford Fiesta in regards to this safety recall. IAW service manager performed an inspection of the door latches and closed out the recall. The issue for this recall states that my vehicle was previously repaired under Safety Recall 15S15 or 16S30. Evidently this was completed by the previous owner but it states that it is possible that one or more of the door latches was not replaced or may not have been replaced correctly. This proved to be true because in April while on vacation I was driving when my door swung open. After grabbing it I was able to find a place to stop. Then, I discovered the latch would not close! I found a rope to wrap around it to keep it closed to finish out my vacation. Ford has recognized and issued a safety recall due to the risk of doors not closing or doors opening while driving. As stated in the letter I received about the recall the risk is: If a door latch is not replaced, there is still a risk that the pawl spring tab inside the door latch could break. This condition will typically prevent the door from latching. Where the door is able to be closed, the door may unlatch while driving, increasing the risk of injury. I returned the car to the Ford Dealer and was told the recall was for an inspection only and was cancelled. I began calling the Ford Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332 on May 1st. Case # [XXX] I have been unsuccessful obtaining a reversal of the cancellation of the recall that is a critical danger. I have been ignored, lied to and promised it would be fixed. Transmission keeps having problems. I was told to replace transmission module
Car loses power and shudders when driving. I have pulled out into the road multiple times and had the car slow when acceleration pedal was pushed because the transmission wasn't engaging properly. We have also had a message appear on long road trips that says pull over and wait 5 minutes for transmission to cool as car begins to downshift at HIGHWAY speed!!! This has been an ongoing problem. We have been told repeatedly , well that's just how the Ford Transmission was designed by mechanics. I have been waiting for a transmission appointment with my local Ford Dealer since the end of May. The appointment was Sept. 11th. The service agent just called me to inform me the problem is the clutch and pressure plate which needs to be replaced. The car has 104, 000 miles on it. Ford is not willing to do anything to make this safety issue right. I have called them and they say my VIN is not included in their database. Please help me correct this before my family is in a wreck.

This happened back in NOV. 2016. I seen the the recall from Ford on 2.9 million cars. Although my make and model is not specifically named in the recall, it is exactly what happened to me. I went to eat at a diner and pulled in to the parking space. I put the car in park, and took my foot off the brake. When I did so, my car jumped forward on to the sidewalk and crashed into the building. This caused both myself and my mother who was 82 at the time to be thrown forward toward the dash and front windshield. It was necessary to call the EMS, Fire, and Ambulance to inspect the structure and tend to me and my mom.There was not any lights or warning when this happened. It was my first time experiencing this from the car. We had the car taken to the Body shop to repair the damages, however there was never a mechanical checks done on the vehicle (we would not have suspected the need to do that).
As I was driving on the highway, my car lost power as if it wasn't in gear anymore. Fortunately, I was in a side lane and was able to coast to the side of the road safely; I doubt I would be as lucky if I was in a middle lane. That being said, the side of the road is still dangerous. Shifting the gear selector did nothing to give me power. I put the vehicle in park and turned it off. I waited a few seconds and tried to turn it back on. It wouldn't start. I tried several more times. I then waited a few minutes and tried to start it again, this time with the car starting. I was able to get to work and drive without any issues. After work, however, my car failed to start and had to be towed. There were zero warning lights or messages displayed during this event.
PURCHASED USED ON MARCH 2021 DEALERSHIP SOMEHOW MADE IT DRIVE PERFECT UNTIL I DROVE IT FOR 2 DAYS. VEHICLE STALLING, LOSING POWER WHILE DRIVING, RPMS AT 4 WHILE ON HIGHWAY @ 65-70 MPH AS IF IT NEVER CHANGED OUT OF 2ND OR 3RD GEAR. CALLED FORD AND HAD THE TCM UPDATED APRIL 2021 AT GABRIEL FORD DEALERSHIP,LIVINGSTON TEXAS.THE UPDATE DID NOT HELP AND I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO DRIVE IT LIKE I STOLE IT BUT THAT MAKES THE POWER-TRAIN ISSUES WORSE. FORD DEALERSHIP POINTED ME TO NHTSA TO WRITE A COMPLAINT. AS OF MAY 15, 2021 IT DOESN'T MATTER IF ITS ON HIGHWAY, LOCAL IN TOWN, LOW MPH OR 65 MPH THE TRANSMISSION CONTINUES TO JERK, LOSE POWER, SPUTTER, AFTER UPDATING THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT NEVER CAME ON WHEN TRANSMISSION ISSUES HAPPENED. VEHICLE JERKING. AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 20 MILES WITH RPMS AT 4 STOPPING AT A LIGHT THEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE SPUTTERED AND WOULD NOT GAIN ACCELERATION, VERY SLOW TO GAIN ACCELERATION. LOSS OF ACCELERATION POWER WILL CUT OUT & CAR WILL BUCK & SPUTTER, ALSO MAKES A GRINDING OR NOISE THEN STOPPED. IT'S ALMOST CAUSED ACCIDENTS WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR!. RPM REVS UP REALLY HIGH BUT THE SPEED DOESNT CHANGE. IT SEEMS TO HAVE TROUBLE SWITCHING OVER THE YEARS BECAUSE IT'S A DUAL TRANSMISSION I'M SUSPECTING SOMETHING'S WRONG WITH THE CLUTCH THERE SEEMS TO BE A SHUTTER.

THE PASSENGER DOOR LATCH ON MY 2013 FORD FIESTA SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING. THE FORD GARAGE SAID IT WOULD BE $306.83 + TAX TO HAVE THE PART REPLACED. THE CURRENTLY BROKEN PART REPLACED A RECALLED DOOR LATCH IN 2016, BUT APPARENTLY ONLY HAD A 2 YEAR WARRANTY. THE DOOR LATCH BROKE FOR THE SAME REASON AS THE 2015-2016 RECALL, BUT THERE IS NO CURRENTLY SAFETY RECALL ON THIS PART. I SHUT THE DOOR AND THOUGHT IT WAS CLOSED. AFTER DRIVING 4 MILES, I OPENED THE DOOR AND IT WOULD NOT CLOSE/LATCH PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS BACKING UP WHEN THE ALERT DINGED ON THE DASH SAYING THE PASSENGER DOOR WAS OPEN. THE ALERT DID NOT SOUND WHEN THE CAR WAS STARTED, WHICH CONCERNS ME THAT THE WIND CAUGHT THE OPENING OF THE DOOR WHILE GOING IN REVERSE. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE REPLACEMENT PART IS JUST AS FAULTY AS THE RECALLED DOOR LATCH.

I TRULY BELIEVE THERE IS AN ISSUE EVEN WITH NEW TRANSMISSIONS IN THIS CAR. IF THE TRANSMISSION IS REPLACED, THE SAME PROBLEMS SHOULD NOT CONTINUE. I DO NOT HAVE THE TIME NOR THE MONEY TO KEEP FIXING SOMETHING THAT IS NOT FIXABLE. I WILL CONTINUE TO DRIVE A CAR THAT I FEEL UNSAFE IN UNTIL I CANNOT ANYMORE. THE CAR KEPT FEELING LIKE HAD A SHIMMY WHILE DRIVING. IT ALSO STARTED MAKING A WEIRD NOISE. I HAD MY VEHICLE VISUALLY INSPECTED AND NOTHING WAS NOTED. I FINALLY TOOK MY VEHICLE TO KENDRICKS BODY SHOP IN AIKEN, SC AND THEY TOLD ME THAT MY BRAKES HAD FAILED CAUSING THEM TO GO THROUGH THE REAR BACKING PLATE. I WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT MY VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE TOWED AND IT WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE.

PURGE VALVE CAUSED FUEL TANK TO BE SUCKED IN 3/4 OF AN INCH. WHILE DRIVING I HAVE SURGING AND WHEN STOPPED THE IDLE IS ERRATIC AND BOUNCES BETWEEN 1000 TO 2000 RPM. IT PASSES THE TEST WHEN ITS HOOKED UP TO THE MACHINE BUT WHEN DRIVEN IT FAILS AND GOES BACK TO THE SHOP. THE PROBLEM APPARENTLY HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH FORD AND HOW IT IS MADE. NOW A ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT ALWAYS COMES ON. THE MANUAL SAYS THAT IT SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN BECAUSE IT MAY NOT SHIFT. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN IN COUNTLESS ACCIDENTS BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT SHIFT. IT DOES NOT ACCELERATE. IT JERKS, SHAKES, AND GRINDS. I WROTE TO FORD AND THEY DIDN'T CARE. OTHER DOORS INSPECTED. ON 1/20/15 THE RIGHT FRONT DOOR LATCH FAILED ON THE CAR WHILE MY 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE. IN ORDER TO GET HOME, SHE HAD TO REACH ACROSS THE PASSENGER SEAT AND HOLD THE DOOR CLOSED WHILE DRIVING. I CAN NOT FOR MY LIFE THINK OF A MORE DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR A YOUNG DRIVER. MY RADIO/CD PLAYER DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY AND IF IT DOES WORK FOR A FEW MINUTES, I WILL HEAR LOUD CRACKING AND LOUD POPPING AND THEN THE RADIO/CD CUTS OFF. I BELIEVE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND AFTER SEARCHING ONLINE, I HAVE NOTICED HUNDREDS OF OTHER INDIVIDUALS ARE WRITING ABOUT EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. THEY SAID IT WAS A "COINCIDENCE". THEY FIXED IT AND I DIDN'T HAVE AN ISSUE UNTIL TWO MONTHS LATER THE ISSUE STARTED HAPPENING AGAIN WITH THE JERKING FORWARD AND FEELING THAT IT WAS LURCHING FORWARD.

WHEN CONTACTING HOUSTON'S HELFMAN FORD DEALERSHIP THEY PROVED TO BE RUDE AND VERY DIFFICULT TO PROVIDE QUALITY INFORMATION ON CORRECTING THEIR MANUFACTURE'S MALFUNCTIONING PART. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY IN THEIR SHOP, HOWEVER THE STATUS OF RESOLVING THE ISSUE WAS UNKNOWN BY THE END OF THE DAY. A FORMAL COMPLAINT WAS MADE THEN ABOUT A HALF HOUR LATER THE SERVICE MANAGER CALLED AND APOLOGIZED FOR HIS TEAM'S UNPROFESSIONAL AND RUDENESS. ADDITIONALLY, HE STATED HE WILL ESCALATE THE ISSUE TO GET IT RESOLVED OR BEGIN THE INSPECTION PROCESS. THE POINT OF THIS COMPLAINT IS THE FACT THAT WE WERE FORTUNATE TO DISCOVER THIS MALFUNCTION IN THE DRIVE WAY. THIS IS DANGEROUS WHEN GOING UP HILL AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THERE ARE NO CODES STORED IN THE COMPUTER. THE ALARM SHOULD NOT FLAG WITHOUT STORING A CODE. SEARCHING THE INTERNET SHOWS THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH THE FIESTA FOR MANY YEARS. DEALERS HAVE MADE THE SAME REPAIRS SEVERAL TIMES ON THE SAME VEHICLE WITH THE ERRORS REOCCURRING. THE PRIMARY CONCERN IS THE ERROR FLAGGING WITHOUT A CODE PRESENT. FORD NEEDS TO FIX THIS POOR DESIGN. IN MY CASE THE CAUSE OF THE ERROR IS LIKELY A POOR CONNECTION UNDER THE HOOD. THAT ALONE IS A PROBLEM BUT IF THE SYSTEM LOGGED THE ERROR AT LEAST IT WOULD BE EASY TO FIND. MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THEIR CARS REPAIRED THINKING THEY WERE OK ONLY TO HAVE IT HAPPEN AGAIN. THIS CAR HAS LESS THAN 9000 MILES ON IT, AND I CAN'T CLOSE THE DOOR, I CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED IF A CHILD WERE IN THE BACKSEAT. THIS IS INSANELY DANGEROUS. RIGHT NOW, I HAVE A BUNGEE CORD HOLDING THE DOOR CLOSED! I'LL TAKE IT TO THE DEALER IN THE MORNING SINCE THE SERVICE DEPT IS CLOSED TODAY.

THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN TEMPORARILY CORRECTED BUT NO PERMANENT FIX. THERE HAS BEEN A CLUTCH ON ORDER SINCE MARCH 7, 2015 AND THE CONVERTER WAS DIAGNOSED ON MARCH 27, 2015 AND THOSE ARE NOT AVAILABLE EITHER. I DRIVE ABOUT 600 MILES A WEEK AND REALLY NEED A DEPENDABLE CAR. WHEN I GO TO PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC THE TRANSMISSION BOGS DOWN SO I HAVE TO GIVE MYSELF AMPLE TIME TO GET OUT. SENT ME ON MY WAY. MAY 2014 - CAR CONTINUES TO SHUDDER AND JERK. CLUTCH REPLACED. FEBRUARY 2015 - TRANSMISSION STILL CONTINUES TO BUCK, JERK, MAKE NOISES. FORD SERVICE CENTER PERFORMS REFLASH AND RELEARN ADAPTIVE. ANOTHER CLUTCH ORDERED. 2-4 WEEK BACK ORDER. MARCH 2015 - FORD SENDS FIELD ENGINEER TO INSPECT CAR (LEMON LAW). CAR PASSES ALL OF FORD'S INSPECTIONS. CAR CONTINUES TO HESITATE, JERK, AND MAKE GRINDING NOISES. MAY 6, 2015 - BRING CAR TO FORD SERVICE CENTER FOR SEVERAL RECALLS. CLUTCH FINALLY REPLACED. MAY 18, 2015 - CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GOES ON. FIESTA GOES TO FORD SERVICE - CATALYTIC CONVERTER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED (16,300 MILES) GOING TO ARBITRATION FOR LEMON LAW THIS WEEK.

ON FRIDAY MAY 22ND 2015 AT APPROX 4PM I TOOK MY FAMILY OUT FOR DINNER AND WHEN WE GOT TO THE RESTAURANT THE PASSANGER DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE, AND IT HASN'T SINCE THEN. I LEARNED BY RESEARCHING ON LINE THAT THIS IS AN EFFECTIVE RECALL. IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME PREVIOUSLY ON THE REAR PASSANGER DOOR AS WELL WHICH IS THE DOOR WHERE MY DAUGHTER CHILD SEAT IS, SAME STORY WE WENT OURTFOR DINNER, GOT TO THE PLACE AND THE DOOR WOULD NOT WORK. IT IS VERY FRUSTATING BECAUSE WHEN YOU BUY A NEW CAR YOU EXPECT NOT TO HAVE ANY ISSUES FOR A LONG TIME. I BOUGHT THIS CAR WITH 700 MILES ON IT, AT 18K I HAD A BLOWN ENGINE THAT WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER (WHAT AN INCONVENIENCE), THEN I HAD THE REAR PASSANGER DOOR LATCH BROKEN, RIGHT AFTER MY WARRANTY MILES (DEALERSHIP WANTED ALMOST $500 FOR THE REPLACEMENT) SO I GOT THAT FIXED SOME WHERE ELSE. NOW AT 67K THE OTHER DOOR. BEING MY ONLY CAR I HAVE, IT MAKES THINGS VERY COMPLICATED, TO ARRANGE MOVING THE FAMILY EVERY TIME THIS CAR BREAKS DOWN ITS A MISSION IMPOSSIBLE. IF MR. HENRY FORD WAS ALIVE HIS WOULD BE ASHAMED OF WHAT THESE PEOPLE ARE DOING WITH HIS BRAND. HOW IT IS POSSIBLE THAT A CAR MANUFACTURER THAT HAS EXISTED FOR OVER 100 YEARS CANNOT MAKE THINGS RIGHT THE FIRST TIME AND WE AS CONSUMERS HAVE TO PAY THE CONSEQUENCES. THEY SHOULD BE MANDATED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE CAR BY NOW, NOT ONLY REPAIR THE FAULTY EQUIPMENT BESIDES THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT CUSTOMER SERVICE IS. I WISHED I WOULD'VE STAY WITH MY VW JETTA WHICH I OWNED FOR ALMOST THREE YEARS AND NEVER HAD ISSUES, CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS AMAZING, BUT I WANTED TO SUPPORT THE US INDUSTRY, I WAS WRONG, I HAD THE SAME ISSUES WITH CHEVROLET. FROM THIS POINT ON I WON'T BY AMERICAN CARS ANYMORE UNLESS YOU CAN BUY AND RETURN IT FOR THE FULL AMOUNT AND NO QUESTIONS ASKED.

IN AUGUST OF 2014, THE PASSENGER REAR DOOR FAILED TO LATCH. DEALER FOUND THE LATCH BROKEN AND REPLACED IT. THE MILEAGE ON THE CAR WAS 7,040. IN NOVEMBER OF 2014, THE PASSENGER FRONT DOOR FAILED TO LATCH. DEALER FOUND THE LATCH BROKEN AND REPLACED IT. THE MILEAGE WAS 7,494. FEBRUARY 24, 2015, THE DRIVER DOOR FAILED TO LATCH, THE CAR NOW HAS 8,300 MILES ON IT. WILL BE TAKING IT TO THE DEALER AS SOON AS WE CAN GET IT THERE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS IF IT WOULD HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING, ESPECIALLY AROUND A MOTORCYCLIST. IT COULD CAUSE CRITICAL INJURY OR DEATH. THIS IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE AND NEITHER THE FORD COMPANY NOR THE DEALER SEEM TO KNOW IF THE REPLACEMENT PART HAS BEEN IMPROVED TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN.

AND THE CAR IS EVEN WORSE. NOW IT IS ABOUT READY TO STALL ON ME. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I FOUND OUT THERE IS SIX RECALLS ON THE CAR. 50 PERCENT OF MY WORK WEEK IS SPENT DRIVING IN THE CAR. IN THE PAST FOUR WEEKS THIS HAS BEEN AN EXTREME INCONVENIENCE. THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD AND THE VEHICLES SHOULD BE RECALLED. THIS NOT SAFE FOR THE OWNER OF THE CAR OR OTHER PEOPLE ON THE ROAD. MY CAR IS GOING STRAIGHT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TOMORROW AND I AM DEMANDING A REFUND. THIS CAR IS ONLY 6 MONTHS OLD. MY FORD FIESTA 2013 HAS BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH SHUDDERING, LUNGING, JERKING, AND FAILING TO ENGAGE GEAR SHIFTS. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY SEVERAL FORD DEALERS AND SERVICEMEN THAT I NEED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AS IF IT WERE A STICKSHIFT AND HESITATION BETWEEN GEAR SHIFTS IS NORMAL FOR THIS CAR. A FORD DEALER HOOKED UP A LAPTOP AND RESET THE VEHICLE TO TSB 13-4-5 "INTERMITTENT TRANSMISSION CLUTCH SHUDDER DPS6 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION". THE PROBLEM WAS NOT RESOLVED, SO I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY; COMPLAINT #2989023. I WAS TOLD THAT I NEED TO BRING THE CAR TO A DEALER AND THEY NEED PROOF THAT THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. THE SERVICE PERSON SAID I NEED TO BE DRIVING THE CAR WHILE FAULTS ARE DOCUMENTED BECAUSE THE CAR HAS AN ADAPTIVE LEARNING PROGRAM THAT RESPONDS TO THE DRIVER'S ACTIONS. I BROUGH THE CAR TO SCHAUMBURGH FORD IN ILLINOIS. THE SERVICE DIRECTOR TEST DROVE THE CAR WHILE I WAS IN THE PASSENGER'S SEAT. HE SAID HE DID NOT EXPERIENCE ANY FAULTS WITH THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, THERE WAS ONE INSTANCE AS WE WERE RETURNING BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, THAT THE CAR SHUDDERED. THE DEALER TOOK THE CAR FOR THE AFTERNOON 8/29/2013 AND SAID HE RESET THE CAR AGAIN FOR TSB 13-4-5 UPDATE ALTHOUGH THEY WERE UNABLE TO PROVIDE ME WITH A RECEIPT OF WORK THAT WAS DONE. ON THE MORNING OF 8/30/2013 THE CAR EXPERIENCED OVERHEATING AND BURNING UNDER THE HOOD. A SERVICE PERSON FROM THE SCHAUMBER FORD DEALERSHIP IN ILLINOIS MET TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE. THE SERVICE PERSON TOLD ME THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO PROVIDE A RENTAL CAR DUE TO THE WEEKEND SCHEDULE. THE ISSUE IS STILL BEING ADDRESSED BY THE DEALER AT THIS TIME.
FIRST TIME IT ALMOST COMPLETELY DIED ON ME GETTING ON THE HIGHWAY, THEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN IT GUNNED IT AND TOOK OFF. ABOUT 3 MILES DOWN THE HIGH WAY ENGINE LIGHTS AND SERVICE LIGHTS CAME ON. I GOT TO WORK AND THEY TOWED IT. THEY SAID THEY CHANGED SOME KIND OF WIRING UNDER THE FRONT WINDOW AND DASH. THAT DIDN'T FIX IT. THE NEXT DAY I WAS PULLING OUT OF WENDY'S AND GIVE IT SOME GAS AND NOTHING HAPPENED. I ROLLED THEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN IT GUNNED IT AGAIN. I ALMOST GOT HIT. GOT IT HOME AND PARTED IT. TOOK IT IN THE NEXT DAY AND THEY CHANGED THE THROTTLE BODY ON IT. IT STILL HESITATES AS YOU GO DOWN THE HIGHWAY. HAS VERY LITTLE TAKE OFF AND MERGING POWER. THE ONLY THING I AM GLAD I DID WHEN I BOUGHT THIS CAR WAS I GOT A STRAIGHT DRIVE. IT WOULD HAVE NO POWER IF IT WAS AN AUTOMATIC. *TR
