The contact owns a 2007 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while stopped at a traffic light, a vehicle crashed into the front of the contact’s vehicle. Additionally, two other vehicles crashed into the side and rear of the contact's vehicle; however, the air bags failed to deploy. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact and the passenger sustained injuries and received medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not totaled. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 104,000.

The driver airbag light keeps going off and on. I went to ford dealer shop to fix it. Only shortly after it came back on. I tried different tricks online and they dont last long. This is a common issue among ford focus owners. The connection plug from airbag to the steering wheel is bad and it just loses connection from time to time. Focus owners cant just DIY sensitive parts like airbag to temporarly fix it nor can we spend big bucks to visit dealersshop everytime. They charged me $140 just look at my car. And told me $700 for airbag replacement, when all that needs replacing is the faulty connecting plug. Ford knows this but is getting away with jeopordizing with customers lives for money. Please make this recall issue so ford will fix for all focus owners before people dies from this well known focus issue because the driverside airbag failes to deploy. Please.

INSIDE BOTH NAZAL PASSAGES VERY CRUSTY AND DRIED BLOOD. SMALL SKIN BURN ON MID NOSE. ALSO HEADACHES , FEEL DAZED, HAIR AND FACE HAD A WEIRD SMELL , ALSO SEVERE RINGING IN EARS. I AM EXTREMELY CONCERNED IF THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD ISSUES WITH TOXIC CHEMICALS AND WHAT HELP CAN I GET TO RESOLVE THIS AND I AM CONCERNED. THE POLICE CAME RESCUE CAME WE A GRATEFUL WE WERE ABLE TO WALK AWAY BUT SOMETIMES PROBLEMS OCCUR A FEW DAYS LATER. I WAS GOING ABOUT 10 MPH THROUGH A CITY STREET INTERSECTION WHEN I RAN OVER AN UNCOVERED WATER VALVE PIPE IN A DEPRESSION SIMILAR TO, BUT SMALLER THAN, A STANDARD MANHOLE WELL. EACH LEFT TIRE RAN OVER THE UNCOVERED WATER VALVE. THERE WAS A LOUD POP, AND I BLACKED OUT. THE LEFT REAR TIRE HAD BLOWN OUT AFTER THE LEFT FRONT TIRE SUSTAINED DAMAGE THAT RESULTED IN A FLAT TIRE SHORTLY THEREAFTER. ALSO, THE AIR BAG IN THE LEFT SIDE OF THE BACK OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT DEPLOYED AND HIT ME IN THE HEAD, CAUSING ME TO BLACK OUT, AND PRODUCING AMNESIA AND OTHER MENTAL SYMPTOMS THAT LINGERED FOR SEVERAL YEARS. IN ADDITION, I SUFFERED NECK AND BACK INJURIES FROM WHIPLASH. THE AIR BAG SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN TRIGGERED BY AN UNDER-WHEEL IMPACT AT SUCH A LOW SPEED.

IN THE MEANTIME, I'VE BEEN LOOKING UP VARIOUS COMPLAINTS AND ISSUES WITH MY 2007 FORD FOCUS AND NOT STATING THE SPECIFIC ISSUES AND THE TWO MAIN COMPLAINTS AND RECALLS THAT KEEP COMING UPSTATE THAT THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS AIRBAGS AND FUEL SYSTEM ISSUES. THESE ARE BOTH THE ISSUES I'M HAVING. THE AIRBAGS LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND OFF WITHOUT THE SYSTEM BEING RESET. THE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND HASN'T GONE OFF. IT CAME ON WHEN MY HUSBAND FILLED THE TANK UP ABOUT 3-4 WEEKS AGO. THE ONLY REASON WE'VE NOT HAD MY MECHANIC LOOK AT IS DUE TO INCOME. THE WARNING LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON (IN EVERY SEASON OF THE YEAR) WHEN THE WEATHER IS HUMID OR DAMP AND GOES OFF WHEN THE AIR IS DRIER. THE MECHANICS SAY THE AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY WHEN THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON AND THAT I HAVE TO REPLACE THE AIRBAG AT A COST OF AROUND $400. I DO NOT BELIEVE IT IS A TAKATA AIRBAG, BUT AM NOT SURE. STILL, IT IS DEFECTIVE AND I THINK THESE AIRBAGS SHOULD BE INSPECTED IN OTHER FORD FOCUS MODELS IN WHICH THEY ARE INSTALLED. ALSO THE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCK (LOCKING FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT DOOR) STOPPED WORKING FOR THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE DOOR MORE THAN A YEAR AGO. I NOW HAVE TO LOCK AND UNLOCK IT MANUALLY FROM THE INSIDE, REQUIRING THE PASSENGER TO WAIT OUTSIDE THE CAR WHILE I (DRIVER) GET INTO THE CAR AND UNLOCK THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. THIS POSES A SAFETY ISSUE FOR THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER.

WHEN I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY COULD FIND NO REASON WHY THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED. THEY WANTED ME TO REPLACE MODULES AND SENSORS, TOTALING $2,800. BECAUSE THERE WAS NO COLLISION, MY INSURANCE REFUSED TO HELP. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE TOLD ME THAT THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING BECAUSE IT IS PAST THE DATE OF WARRANTY. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED.

I NOTICED THAT THE CENTER DASH PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT, THE ONE THAT SENSES A SITTING PASSENGER, WAS ALSO FLICKERING FROM TIME TO TIME AND WOULD SPORADICALLY COME ON OR OFF. IN MAY 2010, I CALLED BEASLEY FORD AND THE WOMAN SAID THAT IT WOULD BE $88.00 TO DIAGNOSE THE AIRBAG LIGHT AND THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY FOR THIS MATTER. I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND DECIDED TO SPEND THE $88 DOLLARS TO HAVE THE AIRBAG LIGHT DIAGNOSED. I WAITED FOR AN HOUR AND FORTY-FIVE MINUTES. I WAS CALLED TO THE SERVICE CENTER. THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THAT HE NEEDED ANOTHER TWO HOURS WITH MY CAR TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. HE HAD ALREADY SPENT ONE HOUR TRYING TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND HE WAS ABLE TO NARROW IT DOWN TO 3-4 POSSIBLE CAUSES. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD BE ANOTHER $88.00 PER HOUR, TOTALING $167.00, JUST TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE AIRBAG. I TOLD THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE THAT I CALLED AND THE WOMAN SAID IT WAS $88 DOLLARS AND NEVER TOLD ME IT WAS $88 DOLLARS PER HOUR. I WAS THEN TOLD THAT AFTER THE DIAGNOSIS, I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR PARTS, WHICH COULD BE UPWARDS OF $617.00 IF THE AIRBAG NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, PLUS LABOR. I WAS TOLD BY THE LONGMONT FORD DEALER THAT THE ON BOARD DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER INDICATED A LOSS OF COMMUNICATION AND THAT THE AIRBAG SAFETY SYSTEM WAS NOT ENGAGED WHEN THE LIGHT WAS ON. I RETURNED TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY TO HAVE A COMPLETE DIAGNOSTIC TO DETERMINE WHAT HAD CAUSED THE LIGHT TO ACTIVATE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER HAD FAILED AND THAT THE ENTIRE CLUSTER MUST BE REPLACED. THIS ELECTRONIC FAILURE REPRESENTS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE IF NOT REPLACED AT A COST OF ~$800.00. I AM DEEPLY CONCERNED THAT OTHER DRIVERS OF THIS CAR MAY NOT UNDERSTAND THAT THE SAFETY SYSTEM IS COMPLETELY INACTIVE WHEN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILS IN THIS WAY. THE DEALER FOUND A DEFECT WITH THE STEERING COLUMN AND HAD THE COMPONENT REPLACED. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE FORD DEALER STATED THAT THERE MAY BE AN ISSUE WITH THE AIR BAGS FOR A PLETHORA OF REASONS. RECENTLY, MY 2007 FORD FOCUS SES WAGON BEGAN EXHIBITING A PROBLEM WITH THE PASSENGER AIRBAG SYSTEM. WITH MY WIFE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND NORMAL OPERATING CONDITIONS, THE PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF LIGHT ON THE DASH WILL ILLUMINATE INDICATING THAT THE AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY IF WE WERE TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. THIS OCCURS AT RANDOM TIMES. I HAVE TWICE HAD THIS VEHICLE IN TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. WE HAD TO PAY A 500.00 THEY FOUND THAT THE COMPUTER RECORDED A HEAD ON ACCIDENT WHICH WILL NOT BE ERASED SO THE CAR VALUE IS NOW LOST THEY TOOK PICTURES OF EVERYTHING SHOWING NO ACCIDENT AT ALL THE INSURANCE COMPANY CHANGED ALL THE SENSORS AND THEN THE AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD NOT GO OFF IT INDICATED A PASSENGER IN THE SEAT SO THE SENT IT TO THOROUGHBRED FORD AND SAID THEY DID NOT CARE WHAT THEY HAD TO DO BUT FIX THE CAR SO THE DID. IT COST ME 500.00 DEDUCTIBLE AND THE INSURANCE CO 1,800.00 SO NOW THE ARE WAITING FOR FORD TO EXCEPT LIABILITY. WE NO NOT FEEL OUR SON IS SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR I FEEL MOST ACCIDENTS SHOULD BE LOOKED AT AS WHICH HAPPENED FIRST AN ACCIDENT OR THE AIR BAG. WE COULD HAVE LOST FOUR YOUNG MEN BECAUSE OF THIS I AM VERY ANGRY WITH THIS TOTAL PROCESS IT TOOK 3 WEEKS TO GET THE CAR BACK THIS ALSO INVOLVED MISSING WORK CLASSES AND ALOT OF TROUBLE WITH TRANSPORTATION I WISH THEY WOULD TAKE THIS CAR OFF THE ROAD SO IF AND WHEN IT IS SOLD I DO NOT HAVE THAT BURDEN OF SOMEONE ELSE'S LIFE ON MY HEAD AND HEART. *TR

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE OCS SENSOR WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND THEY MADE THE REPLACEMENT. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PASSENGER'S WEIGHT CAUSED THE LIGHT TO FLASH, BUT THEY DID NOT KNOW HOW TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 32,544 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91.

ON OCTOBER 25 2007 I PURCHASED A FORD FOCUS SEDAN 4 DOOR CAR WITH MORE OR LESS 400 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER I NOTICED THAT WHEN MY DAUGHTER WHICH IS 5 FOOT ONE, 112 LB WAS RIDING IN THE PASSENGER'S SEAT, AN INDICATOR LIGHT LIT INDICATING ME THAT THE AIRBAG IS TURNED OFF ( WRITTEN ON THE PLASTIC), TELLING ME THAT AT THIS MOMENT THE AIRBAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY IN CASE OF A COLLISION. THIS FEATURE IS SUPPOSED TO ACTIVATE WHEN CHILDREN ARE SEATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT IN ORDER TO AVOID DEPLOYMENT INJURY. I WENT TO MY DEALER 4 TIMES EXPRESSING MY COMPLAINTS AROUND THIS SAFETY ISSUE. EACH TIME THEY TOLD ME THAT THE UNIT WOULD BE RESET AND ULTIMATELY THEY EVEN EXCHANGED A SEAT CUSHION, ALL OF THIS WITH NO AVAIL. CONFRONTED AGAIN WITH THIS PROBLEM WITH MY WIFE AS A PASSENGER (5FT 3 AND 114LB) I RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPRODUCED THE SITUATION I WAS EXPLAINING WITH A LOCAL THIN PASSENGER. AS A RESULT OF THIS VISIT I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND FILED A COMPLAINT ON 11/19/2007. FORD ADVISED THAT I WOULD RECEIVE A FOLLOW UP CALL IN A COUPLE OF DAYS. TODAY 11/20/2007 FORD CALLED AND TOLD ME THAT ACCORDING TO THEIR ENGINEERS, THE BEHAVIOR OF THE LIGHT WAS "AS DESIGNED" AND AS SUCH I COULD DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. LET ME STATE THAT FORDS EXPLANATION IS RIDICULOUS AND A SEVERE BREACH IN AUTO SECURITY WITH LIABILITY ISSUES. BOTTOM LINE, OCCUPANTS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT ( IN THIS CASE MY DAUGHTER OR WIFE) COULD BE SUBJECTED TO LETHAL INJURIES AS A RESULT ON NON DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIR BAG DUE TO A FAULTY MECHANISM WHICH INTERPRETS ERRONEOUSLY THAT SMALL ADULTS ARE CHILDREN EVEN IN THE CASE OF NORMAL SMALL ADULTS. CONSISTENTLY, THE NOTIFICATION THAT THE AIR BAG IS OFF LIGHT ON WITH MY 22 YEAR OLD FEMALE DAUGHTER WHICH IS SHORT ( 5FOOT 2 AND 105 POUNDS) IS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. I HAVE TRIED TO SOLVE THIS ISSUE WITH THE DEALER BUT THEY HAVE NO SOLUTION AND THEY STATE THAT THE THRESHOLD IS SET TO 100LB WHICH I CONSIDER EXCESIVE. AFTER ABOUT TWENTY MINUTES OR SO THE LIGHT TURNS OFF AS IT SHOULD BE, BUT THIS LEAVES AN EXTENDED INTERVAL IN WHICH MY DAUGHTER IS NOT PROTECTED.
