I WENT TO USE MY KEYLESS ENTRY AND IT WOULDN'T WORK I ASSUMED IT WAS THE BATTERY SO I CHANGED IT STILL DOESN'T WORK.SO I WAS HAVING TO UNLOCK IT BY THE KEY. I WENT TO UNLOCK MY CAR AND THE KEY WOULD ONLY TURN HALF WAY SO I HAD TO CALL A LOCK SMITH TO UNLOCK MY CAR. NOW I CANT OPEN MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE NOR CAN I LOCK MY CAR PERIOD THE LOCK BUTTON DOESN'T UNLOCK ALL THE LOCKS SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T UNLOCK ANY AND THE TWO BACK DOORS WONT EVEN OPEN HALF THE TIME EITHER

ONE AFTERNOON I GOT IN MY CAR WENT TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN AND MY BLINKER WAS BLINKING FASTER THEN NORMAL. THAT NIGHT I WAS PULLED OVER BECAUSE I HAD NO BRAKE LIGHT ON THE RIGHT SIDE NOR DID I HAVE A BLINKER. THE NEXT FOLLOWING DAY I GOT TO LOOKING AT MY TAIL LIGHT TO CHANGE IT TO MY SURPRISE MY TAIL LIGHTS WAS I TAPPED THE LIGHT COVER AND THE LIGHTS WENT OUT THE BULB WAS BLACK. I CHECKED TO MAKE SURE MY CONTROL KNOB WAS ON THE OFD POSITION WHICH IT WAS. THE HEAD LIGHTS WOULD ONLY COME ON IF I TURNED TO CONTROL TO ON POISTION. I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR FOR 5 YEARS NOW I HAVE NEVER REPLACED THE LEFT SIDE HEAD OR TAIL LIGHT BUT I HAVE CHANGED TO RIGHT SIDE TWICE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE KEY FOBIK COULD NOT UNLOCK THE DOORS AND THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN WHEN PROMPTED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR FINALLY OPENED WITH THE KEY FOBIK. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO CLIMB OUT OF THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR HAD A HISTORY OF BECOMING STUCK AND REMAINED LOCKED AFTER THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE. A DEALER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 200,000.

WHENEVER I START MY CAR, THE RPM'S ARE BETWEEN 2-3 AND IT TAKES A COUPLE MINUTES TO REACH THE NORMAL IDLING RPM RATE. THE ENGINE ALSO MAKES CLICKING NOISES AND IS LOUDER THAN USUAL AND JUST DOES NOT SOUND RIGHT. AND PREVIOUSLY, MY CAR HAS RANDOMLY STALLED AND JUST TURNED OFF WHILE THE BATTERY STAYED RUNNING WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN OR JUST IDLING AT A STOP LIGHT. MOSTLY, MY CARS ENGINE JUST TURNS OFF WHILE RUNNING IT IN THE DRIVEWAY IN THE MORNING WHILE THE BATTERY STAYS ON. IT HAS NOT STALLED IN AWHILE BUT THERE IS STILL SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE ENGINE AND THE RPMS. ALSO SOMETIMES, A WRENCH LIGHT APPEARS ON THE DASHBOARD WHEN I AM EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM.

WHEN THE KEY IS IN THE ON POSITION EVERYTHING WORKS (RADIO, LIGHTS, AIR, WINDOWS, ETC.) EVERYTHING BUT THE ENGINE! WHEN SEARCHING THIS ON THE INTERNET, I HAVE NOTICED THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM.

I HAVE REPLACED THE DRIVER DOOR HANDLE 3 TIMES ALREADY FOR THE SAME ISSUE EACH TIME, IN THE HANDLE LATCH ITSELF THERE IS A LITTLE PLASTIC PIECE THAT KEEPS BREAKING INSIDE THE HANDLE NOT ALLOWING THE HANDLE TO PULL OPEN THE DOOR. AND NOW THE LAST ISSUE WHEN TAKING OFF THE LOCKS AUTOMATICALLY LOCK AFTER A COUPLE OF SECONDS WHEN DRIVING SOMETIMES THEY LOCK SOMETIMES THEY DON'T. I CAN NO LONGER LOCK MY CAR WHEN LEAVING IT BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW IF AND WHEN THE LOCKS WILL OPEN AS WELL AS WHICH DOOR WILL CHOOSE TO REMAIN CLOSED AND NOT OPEN....I HAVE HAD TO GO IN THROUGH THE TRUNK SEVERAL TIMES QUIET EMBARRASSING. I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO MY LOCAL FORD COMPANY SEVERAL TIMES FOR THEM TO FIX THE ISSUE, THEY TELL ME IT IS MY PROBLEM NOT A MANUFACTURES DEFECT..ONE DOOR YES I COULD UNDERSTAND ALL FOUR DOORS NO THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE SYSTEM. I BELIEVE THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE I CAN NOT ALWAYS GET MY CHILD OUT OF THE BACK SEAT BECAUSE THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT THE DOOR WILL OPEN PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS I HAVE DEALT WITH IT LONG ENOUGH AND CAN NO LONGER CONTINUE TO WORRY ABOUT MY CHILD'S SAFETY, MY SAFETY OR THE LACK THERE OF PROTECTION OF NOT BEING ABLE TO LOCK MY OWN CAR WITHOUT KNOWING IF I CAN GET BACK IN LET ALONE SOMEONE ELSE GETTING IN. FORD MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THEY SEEN LOTS OF FORD FOCUSES WITH THE SAME ISSUE COSTING THE CUSTOMER A FINANCIAL BURDEN DUE TO A FAULTY DESIGN WHICH FORD UPDATED THE ORIGINAL DESIGN TO FIX THE ISSUE, ADMITTING TO THE BAD DESIGN SOLD TO THE PUBLIC. PEOPLE WERE TRAPPED IN THE CAR AND CANNOT GET OUT DUE TOO DOORS NOT DISENGAGING, THE HANDLES ARE STIFF/LOCKED

THE NOT ALWAYS AT THE SAME TIME.WHEN LOCKED THEY FAIL TO OPEN WITH EITHER THE REMOTE OF THE INSIDE SWITCH.WE HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALER 4-5 TIMES AND IT WAS ONLY THE LAST TIME HE WAS ABLE TO SEE 1/2 OF THE PROBLEM.HE DID NOT HAVE TIME TO GET IT IN THAT DAY AND I DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO LEAVE .HIS ANSWER IS IF IT'S NOT BROKEN I CANT FIX IT . CAR FAILS TO START WHEN THE KEY IS INSERTED AND TURNED TO THE PROPER IGNITION STARTING POINT. MY MECHANICS SAYS THE CAR IS NOT FINDING THE SAFETY CHIP INSIDE THE KEY AND WILL NOT ALLOW THE CAR TO START. I AM HAVING TO REPLACE THE IGNITION AND HAVE MY KEY RE-PROGRAMMED. THIS HAS BEEN DEGRADING OVER A PERIOD OF MONTHS. STARTING WITH A FORCEFULNESS OF THE KEY TO MAKE IT START. THE LONGER IT HAS GONE THE WORSE IT HAS GOTTEN. UNTIL IT FINALLY WOULD NOT START AT ALL. THE REPAIR WILL COST ME $ 400.00 PLUS HAVING IT TOWED. IT IS A FAILURE OF THE IGNITION SWITCH TO RECOGNIZE THE KEY'S SAFETY CHIP INSIDE THE KEY. IT HAS CAUSED ME TO SIT AND WAIT FOR THE CAR TO START, SOMETIMES REACHING 30 MINUTES. I TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF MY CARS AND HIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING.

THE 2010 MANUAL ON PAGE 175 SAYS TURN IT 3/4 (IDIOT LIGHTS) AND WAIT THEN CRANK BUT THE 2008 MANUAL SAID THAT TOO ON PAGE 150 BUT IT WASN'T EVER NECESSARY. 3 FORD DEALERS SAY THEY NEVER HEARD OF THE PROBLEM BEFORE.

MY HUSBAND, MY DAUGHTER AND I WENT SHOPPING. WE DID OUR ERRANDS AND MY DAUGHTER GOT INTO THE BACK SEAT. I PROCEEDED TO OPEN THE BACK DOOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, AND THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. WE LEFT THE STORE AND DROVE HOME. I PARKED THE CAR AND MY DAUGHTER WAS NOT ABLE TO OPEN HER DOOR. BOTH OF THE BACK DOORS WOULD NOT OPEN FROM EITHER THE INSIDE OR FROM THE OUTSIDE. SHE HAD TO CLIMB OVER THE SEAT TO GET OUT OF THE CAR. MY DAUGHTER IS 44 AND IS A LARGE WOMAN. CLIMBING OVER THE SEAT IN ORDER TO GET OUT OF THE CAR IS NOT ACCEPTABLE, BUT WE COULD THINK OF NO OTHER WAY FOR HER TO GET OUT. I LIVE ON SOCIAL SECURITY AND CANNOT AFFORD TO JUST GO GET THE DOORS FIXED. PER THE DEALERSHIP, THEY THINK IT'S THE ACTUATOR'S IN THE DOOR...BUT THEY'RE NOT SURE. EVEN IF IT IS, THE DIAGNOSTICS AND REPAIR ARE CLOSE TO A THOUSAND DOLLARS. I DON'T HAVE THIS KIND OF MONEY. PER MY ONLINE RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND OTHERS THAT ALSO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN 2010. A FEW MONTHS LATER MY CHILDREN SAID THEY COULDN'T GET OUT OF THE CAR EVEN THOUGH I HAD OPENED MY DOOR. I TRIED TO MANUALY UNLOCK THIS DOOR AND WAS UNABLE. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO GET IT FIXED BUT ON ARRIVAL AT FORD SERVICE IT HAD STARTED WORKING AGAIN. WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN I MADE THE SAME APPOINTMENT THIS TIME THEY SAW THE PROBLEM FOR THEMSELVES. THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM BUT KNEW IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THEREFORE CHANGED THE DOOR ACTUATOR,LATCH AND LINKAGE.IT WORKED FOR A WHILE AND THEN FAILED AGAIN ALONG WITH TWO OTHER DOORS. FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS STUMPED. THEY THEN CHANGE ALL THE DOOR ACTUATORS,LATCHES AND LINKAGE STILL NOT KNOWING WHAT HAPPENED. SOME MORE TIME PASSED AND THEN AN ALL DOOR LOCK FAILURE HAPPED. SAME THING ALL LOCKS STUCK IN LOCK POSITION UNABLE TO UNLOCK WITH KEYPAD, INTERIOR DOORS SWITCH OR MANUALLY. WITH THERE HAND IN THE AIR UNABLE TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS WRONG THEY PUT ALL NEW UPDATED ACTUATORS, LATCHES AND LINKAGE IN ALL DOORS .THIS WORKED FOR A MUCH LONGER PERIOD OF TIME AND JUST RECENTLY JAMMED IN LOCK POSITION AGAIN . I BROUGHT IT TO MY SALESMAN AND HE WROTE A REPORT AND WE GOT ANOTHER APPOINTMENT TO GET IT FIXED AGAIN .THE DAY BEFORE I BROUGHT IT IN IT STARTED WORKING AGAIN AND LIKE THEY ALWAYS TELL ME ' IT HAS TO ME MALFUNCTIONING IN FRONT OF US ". THE DRIVER DOOR AJAR ALARM SWITCH SUDDENLY THINKS THAT THE DRIVER'S DOOR IS ALWAYS OPEN. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE 1) THE CAR LEAVES THE DOME AND MAP LIGHTS ON FOR A FEW MINUTES UNTIL THEY FADE OUT, EVEN WHILE DRIVING, WHICH IS HAZARDOUS AT NIGHT AND 2) THE CAR WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY LOCK THE DOORS WHEN THE CAR STARTS MOVING, AND IF I LOCK THEM MYSELF THEY INSTANTLY UNLOCK SINCE THE CAR THINKS THAT THE DRIVER'S DOOR IS OPEN. I WENT TO THE FORD DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT SINCE I HAVE OVER 36,000 MILES THEY WILL NOT FIX IT UNDER WARRANTY. INSTEAD, IT WILL BE $182 FOR THE PARTS AND ABOUT $150 FOR THE LABOR SINCE THE 2010 FOCUS HAS HAD A LOT OF REPORTS OF THIS PROBLEM AND FORD HAS REDESIGNED THE DOOR LATCH MECHANISM SO YOU NOW HAVE TO REPLACE FIVE PARTS (DOOR LATCH, DOOR AJAR SWITCH, SEVERAL RODS AND PLATES) INSTEAD OF JUST THE DOOR AJAR SWITCH. THE FORD PARTS DEPARTMENT MANAGER SAID THAT I AM NOT THE FIRST PERSON TO REPORT THIS PROBLEM TO THEM, BUT THAT FORD HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL OR TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THIS PROBLEM SO IT IS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY FOR A FIX. CAR ENGINE KILLS WHILE DRIVING AT ALL SPEEDS WITHOUT WARNING. THIS HAS HAPPENED 7 TIMES IN THE LAST 23 DAYS, THE LAST TIME ON INTERSTATE IN THE LEFT AT 60 MPH. CAR WILL NOT START FOR SOME TIME AFTER BUT WILL START BUT STALL AGAIN. THE LAST TIME IT STALLED WHILE TURNING ACROSS A 6 LANE INTERSECTION WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC AT HIGHWAY SPEED. FIRST EVENTS OCCURRED AT 174.5 MILES ON THE ODOMETER AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. ON THE EVENING OF 31 MARCH 2010. CAR RETURNED ON EVENING OF 8 APRIL DEALER STATING THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CAUSED PROBLEM WITH THE CODED KEY MAKING THE CAR THINK IT WAS AN UNAUTHORIZED KEY. NEW INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WOULD NOT LOAD INTO THE COMPUTERS, DEALER STATED THEY HAD TO FORCE THE COMPUTER LOADING. DEALER STATES HE IS WORKING WITH THE MANUFACTURE ON PROGRAMMING A NEW COMPUTER AS THIS MIGHT BE THE PROBLEM BUT THEY ARE UNSURE, HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE IN A NEW CAR.
