I have had multiple instance of losing power with my car, I completed Customer Satisfaction Program 14M02 and the known issue was not solved. I then went to a mechanic to have a diagnostic test performed due to the check engine light being on and they concluded that the issue was the Canister Purge Valve as well as possibly the Charcoal Canister due to the CPV malfunctioning. Other than losing power within my car the other associated problems, as confirmed by mechanic, are rough idling, difficulty starting, decreased fuel economy, and increased emissions.

The canister purge valve has failed. Was not defective when recall #19S22 was performed. Car failed to start repeatedly and would not idle after refilling the tank from low (fuel light on) to approximately 75%. Eventually, the car did start and after keeping the RPMs at 2000 for a few minutes, the car is back to idling normally. Check engine light did not appear until 3 days after the stall at the gas station, which had a DTC P1450 code indicating inability for the car to bleed the fuel tank, suggesting the canister purge valve. Ford should offer the free replacement of the defective purge valve and inspection of the carbon canister and fuel tank even after the 19S22 recall was performed (which was just a software update and inspection at the time of service). The possibility of the car stalling not just at the gas station is a safety issue for others and the occupant because of the possibility of a sudden loss of power/becoming an obstruction/or abruptly stopping on the road.

On 4/20/23 while driving home from work on the highway my car stalled and after pulling over would not start. The check engine ight had come one. On 4/21/23 I took my car to a mechanic who found the p0456 fault in the PCM which was tied to an active recall on my vehicle. The mechanic printed out the recall information and recommended replacing the cannister purge valve, fuel tank and fuel pump assembly. They suggested I take it to the local ford dealer to have the recall work done as it would be covered. On 4/27/23 I took my car to the dealership to have the recall work done. The dealer reprogrammed the PCM and replaced the vapor canister purge solenoid. On 5/15/23 while driving home from work on the highway my car stalled again and after pulling over would not start. The fuel tank has deformed, but less than the 1 inch ford is requiring to replace it and the distance to empty is still inaccurate. On 5/16 I dropped the car back off at the dealer. They looked at the car the next day and refused to address the outstanding issues.

There was a past recall for the purge valve canister and the fuel pump and I was never notified from Ford about the recall when it was open. Now they are asking me to pay out of pocket for these repairs the dealership is asking $1400 to repair. Ford shoild honor there recalls even if the recall is closed. Now that I have the problem with the fuel system it is affecting my fuel tank as well. I have been buying Ford cars for over 20 years. The least they can do is offer financial assistance. If this is affecting my fuel tank now my car can catch on fire. I can't drive my vehicle more than two miles before it starts to slow down. At the time of the recall my vehicle had 83,000 miles. it now has 140,000.

Faulty canister purge valve caused vehicle to stall and shut down while driving on public roads. Canister purge valve is also causing check engine code P0420. Catalytic converter is also giving out while operating causing a lot of white smoke from the exhaust and catalytic converter.

My daughter has a 2013 Ford Focus SE and has had numerous issues with her transmission which of recent has presented some serious safety concerns. She had driven her car to work and when attempting to leave after work was unable to get her car to move . She put the car in drive and reved the engine then in reverse the same , would not move. We had the car towed to Sarchione Ford of Alliance and was diagnosed as the Transmission Actuator A . My understanding of the Actuator is it engaged the transmission into gear. I recently read an article in a Ford Forum relating to the April 2020 Class Action Suit and I quote a blogger stated that this defect can abruptly cause car to jump into gear which could cause a safety issue . Another blogger stated that he had a similar issue while on an expressway traveling fast and ended up on the shoulder until eventually getting the car to move again. My daughter's Ford Focus 2013 has had 2 recalls issued relating to the transmission. Program #14M01 Transmission Clutch Shudder / Transmission input seal Warranty extension which is no longer valid. Program #14M02 Transmission Control Module which has been extended to 150,000 mile or until February of next year. Both of the said recalls we're mandated due to the numerous safety concerns relating to failure or uprupt operation due to design defect and no fought of the vehicle operation. So I pose a very simple question, why has not Actuator A and B of the Ford Focus been issued recalls when failure of said parts presents safety concerns? There should be a warranty extension mandate to repair at no cost to vehicle owner. All of these said parts work together when operational to perform safe driving practices on the contrary the motorists are left at risk regarding highway safety. I have written a letter to CEO Jim Farley to reevaluate his Customer Satisfaction Program and recall procedure. The NHTSA needs to review the said safety concerns. This message is a complaint about my local car dealership and the car manufacturer of my vehicle. I will try to follow the general guidelines as much as possible. First off, I have a 2013 Ford Focus with numerous recalls. I recently dropped the vehicle off at my local car dealership the have those recalls worked on...and ONLY those recalls. The recalls include: - faulty transmission control module (TCM) - canister purge valve (CPV) being stuck open causing the plastic fuel tank to deform, causing incorrect gas tank readings - door latches not being secure - software update of the vehicle's computer...to also correct false computer readings. Symptoms I have with the vehicle are as follows: - difficulty with ignition, as I have to turn the key multiple times to start the vehicle; also happens when putting in gas - constant jerking of the vehicle while driving, especially when starting from a stop - stalling of the vehicle, especially when driving uphill - engine light always on - incorrect gas reading; fuel gauge goes up and down. When I dropped my vehicle off at the dealership, I was assured that if the problems were any of the recalls, they would be free of charge. Fast-forward a couple of weeks later and I'm being told that I now owe over $1,000 in labor fees! On top of that I am being told that I owe a $180 diagnostic fee. I was told of two things that were replaced on the vehicle: the canister purge valve (which I already stated IS one of the recalls) and some random sensor, which they had no right to replace without my permission. I am being told neither of these things are covered since the car dealership and manufacturer suddenly don't consider these recalls. The excuse I have been given is the "codes" of the vehicle don't give the same information. I am in utter disbelief of everything I am being told. The recall letters clearly state repairs that are part of a recall are free of charge. Absolutely ridiculous.

During startup after refilling tank with fresh gas it will putter and hesitate to stay stay on. Engine light came on had codes ran came back as codes P0171 system to lean secondary DTC P1450 unable to bleed up fuel tank. Was told that was caused by the EVAP so I needed that replaced. Then it’s starts again was told it was the canister purge valve. I had my car taken to a ford dealership and was told they didn’t see what the issue was. It is doing all the things that the recalls for the same year make and model did. It needs to be fixed because this is a safety issue. Next step is to hire an attorney and have vehicle throughly looked at.

I have had my car in at the ford dealership and I have been waiting on parts to come in. The recalls on the car which are the transmission control module and the gas tank deformation recall have not been completed on my vehicle but is showing up in the system as repaired. I have been waiting for over 10 months for these parts to come in for the repairs to be done. Now my car isn’t drivable and just sits in my driveway.

Check engine light came on Saturday morning on my way to work, When checked it comes up as fault codes P0420, with secondary codes of P144A - EVAP Emission System Purge Vapor Line Restricted/blocked, P1450 - Unable to bleed up fuel tank vacuum, and P0131 - O2 Circuit Low Voltage (Bank 1, Sensor 1), And started stalling after putting new gas in only, and now hesitates at lower gears and has a rougher then normal idle with the rps not staying steady, Also when doing a VIN check on Fords website, or the NHTSA lookup it does not show up as a recall, however when I do a full VIN check it does show under the recalls page, I'm not sure if they marked it as completed for the VIN of this vehicle or not but its doing literally all the stuff stated in Ford Safety Recall 18S32 18V735000 or 19S22 19V515000, but when trying to chat Ford about it they deny there is one even though the NHTSA OVERVIEW states: All of the affected vehicles previously had Ford Safety Recall 18S32 performed; however, updated powertrain control module (PCM) software was not available at that time. Ford Motor Company wants to ensure the software is updated to the most current release available. In some of the affected vehicles, the PCM software may not adequately detect a stuck-open canister purge valve (CPV) within the fuel vapor system. If the CPV malfunctions and sticks open, it can lead to excessive vacuum in the fuel vapor system, allowing the plastic fuel tank to deform. This can cause the following symptoms: • Illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0420, P1450, P0443, P0452, P0456, P0460 and/or P2196 • Inaccurate or erratic fuel gauge indication • Inaccurate distance to empty (DTE) • Engine stall and/or other drivability concerns related to stuck open CPV I have only had the car 2 months as of tomorrow, and am a single dad raising my 6 month old son alone, I cannot have this breakdown completely and risk a accident when it should be covered by recall

Daughter's car has hesitation when driving, took to son who is mechanic. He said it has hesitation, cough idle, loss of power and the gas tank is malformed. He said he looked up the vin and it showed recall 18532-51. I looked on fords website and see that this is recall for their reference number 19S22. My son said this is dangerous because that issue with the fuel tank vacuum could cause the gas tank to crack. I called ford service center to schedule a recall repair but they told me her vin does not show that recall. This car has all the symtoms of the recall, the vin showed up for my son, and the recall is mentioned on fords werbsite. We need to have this repaired. It is a known issue for 2012-2013 ford focuses. Why wouldn't her car be covered??

The car stalled several times while driving. After a mechanics evaluation it was determined that there was a fuel delivery problem. After further evaluation it was confirmed that the problem was a defective purge solenoid. This item was recalled by Ford. However, they did not include this vehicle (by date) in the recall. The recall lists cars made until July 2012 and this vehicle was manufactured in May of 2013. The effect of the defective purge solenoid caused damage to other components of the fuel delivery system. I am now forced to pay for the repairs out-of-pocket. For a problem that is known by (and recalled by) Ford but is excluded from the recall. NOT FAIR

After driving my vehicle it stalls once it is stopped and I try to press the gas. This can cause a collision. This can either be the fuel system which they did have a recall on my car but the dealership decided it wasn't needed at the time. It could also be the power train. This incident has occurred multiple times since 2017.

Check engine light came on. Before I had a chance to get it checked, the engine wouldn't start after refueling until trying on the fourth time. Took the car to a parts store and the code read P1450. An October 25, 2018 recall acknowledged a problem with 2012-18 Ford Focuses with a 2.0L engine. Although this problem is clearly acknowledged with this same year, model, and engine, my VIN is allegedly not covered in the recall. Dealer will not service the car under the recall.

NOW THAT FINALLY A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON U0101, P07A3, I AM NOW OVER 100, 000 MILES THE CLUTCH IS NO LONGER COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BUT THE TCM IS. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL INCIDENTS WHERE THE CAR LOST ALL ACCELERATION ABILITIES WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY HIGHWAY OR SIMPLY FAIL TO ACCELERATE AND A TRAFFIC LIGHT CAUSING MAJOR DELAYS FOR ANYONE AROUND ME. VEHICLE FLATBED TOWED TO HOME 35 MILES AWAY AND GAS WAS ADDED AND VEHICLE RAN FINE. AUGUST 2020 SAME VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING ON STATE HIGHWAY AT 60 MILES PER HOUR WITH 21 MILES TO EMPTY ON READING. AGAIN VEHICLE FLATBED TOWED HOME AND GAS WAS ADDED AND VEHICLE HAS RAN FINE SINCE. I BELIEVE THAT THE GAS GAUGE IS FAULTY IN THIS MODEL OF FORD FOCUS AS IN OTHER YEARS BUT NO RECALL YET FOR MODEL 2013 YEAR. WE WILL MAKE SURE GAS DOESNT GET BELOW 50 MILES AS THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE NOW WITHIN 5 MONTHS AND NOT A COINCIDENCE.

MY CAR IS CONSTANTLY HAVING ELECTRICAL ISSUES THE RADIO WILL CUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF PLAYING IT WON'T TURN BACK ON MY CAR LITERALLY HASS TO BE TURNED OFF FOR A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TIME BEFORE THE RADIO WILL COME BACK ON AT ALL AND THEN IT DISCONNECTS AND MAKES A LOUD POPPING SOUND LIKE SOMETHINGS GOING TO CATCH ON FIRE IN THE CAR WON'T EVEN BE ON NOR WILL THE KEY BE IN THE IGNITION I FEEL THAT IT IS VERY UNSAFE DUE TO THE FACT THAT THAT KIND OF ANNOYS IS A BIG DISTRACTION AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TAKES DOWN MY INFORMATION AND TELLS ME THEY WILL CALL ME BACK TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT, AND THEN TO REPEAT ALL MY INFORMATION AGAIN TO A VOICE MESSAGE. I BOUGHT MY FORD FOCUS HATCHBACK SE STARTING AT 24K MILES. AT AROUND 50K I BEGAN HAVING TRANSMISSION TROUBLES. THE STUTTERING, WHILE ACCELERATING OR COMING TO A STOP, WAS (AND STILL IS) HORRIBLE. I HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE IN ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS TO GET THE TRANSMISSION 'FIXED', TO NO AVAIL. I'M STILL DEALING WITH THESE PROBLEMS 80K MILES LATER. THE FIRST TWO WINTERS THAT I HAD OWNED THE VEHICLE MY DOOR LOCKS WOULD NOT ENGAGE, IN DRY, 40 DEGREE TEMPERATURES. SO I WOULD HAVE TO DRIVE AND HOLD MY DOOR CLOSED UNTIL THE CAR HEATED UP AND THE LOCKS ENGAGED. I TRIED WD-40 AND SPRAYS MEANT SPECIFICALLY TO UNFREEZE LOCKS. NEITHER WORKED. AND THE LOCKS WOULD OCCASIONALLY DISENGAGE WHILE DRIVING MY MORNING COMMUTE ON THE HIGHWAY. NO RECALL UNTIL TWO YEARS LATER, AFTER COMPLAINING COUNTLESS TIMES. BUT BACK TO THE TRANSMISSION, I WAS DRIVING HOME AFTER A LONG DAY AT WORK AND ENDED UP STUCK IN CINCINNATI, OH. A MESSAGE POPPED UP ON MY DASH READING 'TRANSMISSION FAULT' ADVISING ME TO TAKE MY CAR TO A DEALER. TURNING OFF THE ENGINE DIDN'T HELP, AND I COULDN'T DRIVE OVER 20 MILES PER HOUR BECAUSE THE CAR WOULDN'T SHIFT OVER 1ST OR 2ND GEAR. LUCKILY I'M AN EXPERIENCED DRIVER AND WAS ABLE TO DODGE MULTIPLE CARS THAT ALMOST SLAMMED INTO ME ON THE STREET, DUE TO MY SUDDEN BRAKING. WHEN CONTACTING FORD IT TOOK THEM 5 HOURS OF GOING BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN DEALERS TO FINALLY SEND ME A TOW TRUCK. I GET THE CAR BACK, SAME PROBLEMS. OVER AND OVER. A MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THEY DON'T ACTUALLY HAVE A FIX FOR THE PROBLEM (WHICH IT'S BECOMING EVER MORE CLEAR THAT THEY STILL DON'T, NOR WILL THEY EVER). FORD'S COMPENSATION FOR THIS PROBLEM WAS A TERRIBLE DEAL. OFFERING A REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION WITH THE EXACT SAME TRANS THAT GAVE ME PROBLEMS I'M THE FIRST PLACE. I'M GLAD TO SEE THE GOVERNMENT IS GETTING INVOLVED AND HOPE TO SEE RESOLVE SOON.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE VEHICLE STOPPED RUNNING AND LOST ALL POWER WITHOUT WARNING THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE RE-STARTED. THE CAUSE OF THE ISSUE WAS THE EVAPORATOR VACUUM CANISTER. THE FAILURE OF THE CANISTER ALSO CAUSED THE FUEL TANK TO DEFORM AND DAMAGED THE FUEL PUMP/LEVEL SENSOR. THE CANISTER WAS REPLACED AND THE FUEL TANK POPPED OUT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, BUT THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR IS STILL READING INCORRECTLY DUE TO THE DEFORMED TANK.

THIS IS HARD TO BELIEVE IN VIEW OF HOW BOEING HAS FIXED THE SOFTWARE FOR THE 737 ISSUE. THERE SEEMS TO BE AN INDIFFERENCE ON FIXING THIS AND HAS CAUSE ISSUES IS HESITATION AND ALMOST STALLING. I HAVE MANAGED TO CONTROL THIS BY MANIPULATING THE CLUTCH WHICH IS PROBABLY NOT GOOD. I AM SURPRISED THAT FORD HAS NOT EXPEDITED THE FIX.

FIRST SIGN OF AN ISSUE WAS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATING IN OCTOBER OF 2018. SHORTLY AFTER THE ENGINE RANDOMLY STARTED LOSING POWER AND SHUTTING DOWN COMPLETELY AT RANDOM INTERVALS. IT COULD EITHER BE WHILE DRIVING OR SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT. I GO TO ACCELERATE AND NOTICE THE ENGINE HAS SHUT OFF. THE CAR WILL FREQUENTLY BEHAVE AS IF IT HAS REDUCED POWER WHEN PUSHING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE RPMS OF THE CAR WILL ALSO RANDOMLY FLUCTUATE AS THE CAR IS STRUGGLING TO GET ENOUGH FUEL TO KEEP IT RUNNING WHICH ALSO BRINGS A VERY ROUGH IDLE. THE RPMS DO NOT CLIMB AS QUICKLY AND THE ENGINE HAS A LOW RUMBLE TO IT SOUNDING LIKE IT IS STRUGGLING. THIS IS ALSO ACCOMPANIED BY WHAT SOUNDS LIKE BACKFIRES COMING FROM THE EXHAUST. WHEN REFUELING AND PUTTING THE GAS PUMP INTO THE CAR THERE IS A LARGE HIGH PRESSURE RELEASE FROM THE GAS TANK. UPON TRYING TO RESTART THE CAR THE STARTER MOTOR HAS TO SPIN FOR AN EXTRA 5 SECONDS OR SO UNTIL THE ENGINE TURNS ON. WHEN IT DOES TURN ON IT SPUTTERS AND STRUGGLES TO GET TO A STABLE IDLE RPM.

TOOK MY CAR IN ON THE EVE OF 1/29/2019 AND DROPPED IT OFF. THEY CALLED ME THE FOLLOWING DAY TO SAY THEY DIDNT HAVE THE PART AVAILABLE. THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO PICK UP MY CAR AND SAID THEY WOULD CALL WHEN PART CAME IN. I HAD AN INSPECTION SCHEDULED FOR 2/7/2019 AND THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD COME IN PRIOR TO MY INSPECTION. I NEVER HEARD FROM THEM BUT CALLED BACK A FEW TIMES, TELLING THEM I HAD NEW CODES COMING UP ON MY OBD SENSOR (FIXD) THE CAR HAD BEEN RUNNING ROUGH, STALLING OUT WHILE IDLING/STOPPED.. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL DUE TO THE DEFORMED FUEL TANK. THE DEALERSHIP AND THE RECALL NOTICE I RECEIVED IN THE MAIL CONFIRMED THAT MY FUEL TANK READINGS WILL BE INACCURATE DUE TO THIS ISSUE WITH THE DEFORMATION. I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THIS ISSUE FIXED AND THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED TO FIX IT ACCORDING TO FORD'S RECALL. THEY ALSO SAID THAT I SHOULD NOT LONGER HAVE INACCURATE READINGS. TODAY, THE FUEL READING ARE STILL INACCURATE AND I AM CONCERNED THAT MY CAR MAY STALL AND ISSUE IS NOT ACTUALLY RESOLVED. THE READING ARE STILL OVER 100 MILES OFF. THE DEALERSHIP AND FORD REFUSE TO EVALUATE THE ISSUE AND/OR FIX THE ISSUE UNDER THE RECALL. THE PHOTO I PROVIDED BELOW DEMONSTRATES HOW OFF THE FUEL IS. PRIOR TO THIS PHOTO, MY TANK WAS ON EMPTY. I ADDED 5 GALLONS OF GAS OR ABOUT 150 MILES. A FULL TANK IS AROUND 345 MILES TYPICALLY FOR MY CAR BASE UPON HISTORICAL READINGS. IN THE PHOTO, THE ELECTRONIC GAUGE SAYS 215 MILES LEFT WHICH IS WRONG AND THE OTHER GAUGE READS THAT ITS ALMOST FULL (~315MILES) ALSO WRONG. THE READINGS SHOULD SAY AROUND 150 MILES. BOTH GAUGES ARE OFF AND THEY ALSO DO NOT COINCIDE.

2013 FORD FOCUS, WAS BOUGHT NEW FROM DEALERSHIP AND HAS HAD CLUTCH ISSUES FROM BEGINNING. THE CAR STUTTERS ON ACCELERATION, SHIFTS HARD, AND OCCASIONALLY THERE IS A DELAY WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS PRESSED. A RECALL WAS PERFORMED ON THIS CAR AND THE CLUTCH WAS REPLACED, BUT STILL HAD SAME ISSUE. THIS CAR HAS BEEN SEEN 8 TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE, AND HAS NEVER BEEN RESOLVED. THE CLUTCH THAT WAS REPLACED DURING THE RECALL HAS FAILED THE PERFORMANCE TEST, BUT THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT REPLACE DUE TO EXPIRED WARRANTY. RECENTLY ANOTHER RECALL WAS ISSUED ON THIS VEHICLE DUE TO A STUCK CANNISTER PURGE VALVE. THIS CAUSES THE ENGINE TO STALL AND THE FUEL METER TO READ INCORRECTLY. THIS CAUSED ME TO RUN OUT OF GAS ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY GAS METER REPORTED I STILL HAD HALF A TANK OF FUEL. ON 11/29/18, THE DEALERSHIP PERFORMED THE RECALL AND BELIEVING MY FUEL METER TO NOW BE ACCURATE, I RAN OUT OF GAS AGAIN AT A QUARTER TANK FULL. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS BACK ON AND IT IS AGAIN THROWING A CODE FOR THE PURGE VALVE. THIS CAR HAS SEVERAL SAFETY ISSUES WHICH FORD DEALER HAS BEEN UNABLE AND UNWILLING TO REMEDY.

WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THEY SAID THE CODE WAS CAUSED BY THE DEFECTIVE PURGE VALVE DAMAGING MY FUEL PUMP AND WOULD BE COVERED UNDER BY RECALL 18S32. THEY SAID THAT MY CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE BUT THAT FORD HAS DISAPPROVED THE REQUEST FOR A LOANER CAR, AND THAT PARTS ARE BACKORDERED. I HAVE BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO GEORGE WALL FORD LINCOLN IN SHREWSBURY NJ TWICE FOR THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE. FIRST TIME THEY UPDATED A MODULE AND IT HELPED FOR ABOUT A WEEK. THEN THE PROBLEM RETURNED. SECOND TIME THEY HAD IT EVEN LONGER, AND UPON PICK UP I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR WAS ACTING 'WITHIN SPEC', AND DOING 'WHAT IT IS DESIGNED TO DO,' SO NO FIX WAS MADE. CAR CONTINUES TO SHUDDER SEVERELY. TRANSMISSION IS TECHNICALLY MANUAL, DESPITE BEING AN AUTOMATIC, AND THE COMPUTER DOES THE SHIFTING. THAT IS WHAT I WAS TOLD. HOWEVER, IF THAT IS THE CASE, THEN THIS CAR DRIVES MANUAL TERRIBLY. I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SUPPORT CHAT AND WAS TOLD I DO NOT QUALIFY FOR BUYBACK BECAUSE OF CAR'S AGE/MILEAGE. I WAS NOT INFORMED OF ANY RECALLS, OR THE TRANSMISSION'S BEHAVIOR UPON LOOKING, BUYING, AND PAYING FOR THE CAR IN FULL ALL IN ONE EVENING. I HAVE JUST SENT A LENGHTLY LETTER TO FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS THIS WEEK. AWAITING RESPONSE. MAY FILE LEMON LAW IF SITUATION IS NOT HANDLED PROPERLY. THEN, WHEN IDLING AT A STOP, RPM'S WOULD BOTTOM OUT TO WELL UNDER WHERE IT SHOULD (500 OR LESS RPM). CAR SHAKES AND RATTLES AT IDLE. CAR ALSO WILL STALL WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO A STOP. MY CAR HAS STALLED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST 2 WEEKS. SOMETIMES AT A COMPLETE STOP, OTHER TIMES IT HAS STALLED WHILE IN MOTION (INCLUDING 1 STALL IN AN INTERSECTION THAT NEARLY CAUSED ME TO BE HIT) CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. GOT CODE P144A (PURGE VALVE ISSUE, WITH EVAP LEAK). REPLACED MY VAPOR CANISTER PURGE SOLENOID PER THE CHECK ENGINE CODE. CAR IS STILL HAVING ISSUES.

MANY PEOPLE ARE AWARE OF THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE PROBLEM WITH THE 2013 FORD FOCUS THAT HAS BEEN RECALLED. HOWEVER, I HAVE HAD ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH MY FORD FOCUS THAT I RESEARCHED AND FOUND THAT MANY MORE PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME OR SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH THEIR FUEL TANK COLLAPSING AND NEEDING TO REPLACE MOST OF THE COMPONENTS IN THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. I HAD THE PURGE VALVE REPLACED AS AN OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE AS MY EXTENDED WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED, HOPING THIS WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. I WAS INFORMED BY THE MECHANIC THAT TO FIX MY CAR COMPLETELY, IT WOULD MOST LIKELY NEED A NEW FUEL TANK, FUEL PUMP, FUEL FILTER, FUEL LINE AND OF COURSE THE PURGE VALVE ( WHICH I HAD REPLACED ). MY CAR IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD AND I DO NOT KNOW HOW OR WHY I NEED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. I HAVE SEEN MANY POSTS DESCRIBING THE SAME SITUATION ON CARCOMPLAINTS.COM AND KNOW OF SOMEONE LOCALLY WHO I KNOW PERSONALLY WHO HAS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR 2013 FORD FOCUS. WHEN DRIVING, MY ENGINE WILL SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. FROM TIME TO TIME, MY OIL LIGHT WILL COME ON AS MY ENGINE STALLS OUT AND TRIES TO 'DIE' AND I CAN PRESS THE GAS TO 'REVIVE' THE ENGINE AND KEEP IT FROM SHUTTING OFF. THIS REPAIR OF THE FUEL SYSTEM WAS ESTIMATED TO COST $2,000 TO REPAIR AND I JUST DON'T HAVE IT. I LISTED MY CAR ONLINE FOR $5,400 AS IS AND HAVE NO ONE INTERESTED IN IT AT THAT PRICE AFTER I'VE INVESTED NEARLY $20,000 IN THIS CAR IN THE 4 YEARS I'VE BEEN MAKING PAYMENTS, MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS ON IT. THIS CAR'S FUEL GAUGE READS IN ERROR. CAR RUNS OUT OF GAS EVEN THOUGH THE FUEL GAUGE READS OVER 100 MILES TO EMPTY. IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME 3 TIMES BEFORE I REALIZED EXACTLY WHAT WAS HAPPENING. TWICE ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70MPH. MY CAR JUST DIEDZ THE GAS GAUGE SHOWED AMPLE GAS WHEN THE CAR WAS NEARLY EMPTY. IT WAS VERY SCARY. TO SIMPLY HAVE THE ENGINE DIE AND COST THRU TRAFFIC TO THE SHOULDER. MY CAR HAS ONLY 28000 MILES ON IT. THE DEALERSHIP TELLS ME A SENSOR FAILED, THE TANK IS WARPED AND THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM MUST BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $2300. IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY AS THE CAR IS OLDER THAN 5 YEARS.

WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM A VACATION IN FLORIDA ON 9-15-18 (SATURDAY), I WAS DRIVING I75N IN THE THIRD OF FOUR LANES GOING 75-80 MPH. SUDDENLY MY CAR SLOWED DOWN ABRUPTLY, I HELD THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR BUT THE CAR CONTINUED TO LOSE SPEED. I QUICKLY TURNED ON MY EMERGENCY FLASHERS AND TURN SIGNAL TO GET OVER TWO LANES INTO THE BERM. THANKFULLY I WAS NOT HIT BY THE 80 MPH TRAFFIC SPEEDING BY. ONCE IN THE BERM, THE CAR JUST DIED. IT WOULD NOT TURN ON AGAIN. MY LIGHTS ALL ILLUMINATED, THE GAS LIGHT, THE BATTERY LIGHT, THE SEATBELT LIGHT AND THE OIL LIGHT, A CLICKING NOISE WAS ALSO HEARD. IT WAS 95 DEGREES THAT DAY IN FLORIDA AND I WAS TRAVELING WITH MY SISTER AND MY THREE DOGS. MY DOGS ARE FLAT FACED DOGS WHO CANNOT TOLERATE HEAT. THEY QUICKLY DECLINED AND WERE IN THE PROCESS OF HEAT STROKE AS WE WERE WAITING FOR HELP TO ARRIVE FOR US. WE DID EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO KEEP THEM COOL WITHOUT THE AIR CONDITIONING WORKING, BUT IT WAS FAILING. WE DID MANAGED TO GET HELP FROM A SEMI TRUCK DRIVER WHO ALLOWED US TO SIT IN HIS AIR CONDITIONED CAB, FINALLY THE DOGS WERE SAFE. WE WAITED FOR THE STATE HWY PATROL AND THE TOW TRUCK. THE TOW TRUCK TOWED MY CAR TO A REPAIR SHOP ABOUT 25 MINUTES AWAY. THE REPAIR SHOP WAS NOT OPEN UNTIL THE FOLLOWING DAY SO WE WERE FORCED TO GET A HOTEL ROOM FOR THE NIGHT. SUNDAY AT NOON, THEY OPENED. TWO AND 1/2 HOURS LATER, THEY CALLED ME TO TELL ME I HAD SIMPLY RUN OUT OF GAS. MY CAR'S GAUGES TOLD ME THAT I HAD 45 MILES TO EMPTY AND 1/4 TANK OF GAS IN THE VEHICLE, SO OBVIOUSLY THIS WAS NOT CORRECT. WE WERE TERRIFIED AND WERE PUT INTO A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. WE ALL COULD HAVE DIED WHEN THE CAR STOPPED IN TRAFFIC AND MY PETS FROM THE HEAT. A RECALL NEEDS TO BE MADE ON THIS PROBLEM AS I HAVE READ MANY ACCOUNTS OF OTHERS WHO HAVE LIVED THROUGH IT AS WELL.

THE VEHICLE IS NOW AT AT FORD SERVICE REPAIR SHOP AND I AM WAITING TO HEAR FROM THEM BUT THE SERVICE REPAIRMAN SAID THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM, THAT HE HAD THE SAME VEHICLE IN THE WEEK BEFORE WITH THIS SAME ISSUE. LAST FRIDAY, I HAD A CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE WITH A FORD DEALERSHIP TELL ME THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT OCCURS IN THIS VEHICLE. OBVIOUSLY RUNNING OUT OF GAS RANDOMLY IS VERY DANGEROUS. WE HAD HE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME. A CHECK OF THE CODE SHOWED A FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM PROBLEM. WE ALSO NOTICED THAT WHEN TRYING TO FUEL THE VEHICLE WHEN PLACING THE FUEL NOZZLE INTO THE FUEL FILL A RUSH OF AIR WOULD ESCAPE. AFTER FUELING THE CAR WOULD NOT START. ONCE WE GET THE CAR STARTED IT WOULD RUN ROUGH FOR SEVERAL MILES. ALSO, THE FUEL GAUGE WAS WRONG. THE FUEL GAUGE WOULD SHOW 1/2 TANK BUT WE RAN OUT OF GAS. THE MECHANIC HAD TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK, OUR MECHANIC HAD TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK, PURGE VALVE AND ASSOCIATED HOSES, FUEL PUMP. ALSO, ANOTHER PROBLEM AROSE WITH THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. ALL OF THE GAUGES INCLUDING THE RADIO WENT BLANK AND WOULD NOT FUNCTION. THE MECHANIC HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AND RESET THE COMPUTER FOR THE INSTRUMENTS AND RADIO TO BEGIN WORKING AGAIN.

THE FUEL GAGE ON MY FORD FOCUS DOES NOT READ CORRECTLY. I'VE RAN OUT OF GAS MULTIPLE TIMES WHEN THE MILES TO E READ 40,72 AND EVEN 88. SINCE I'VE HAD THE CAR THE GAS LIGHT NEVER COMES ON BEFORE I RUN OUT OF GAS. I CALLED FORD AND WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY A $90 FEE FOR THEM JUST TO ACCESS WHAT WAS WRONG WITH MY CAR. I'VE SEEN MULTIPLE POSTS FROM OTHER PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. IT DEFINITELY SHOULD BE ADDED TO THE RECALL LIST. THIS PROBLEM ALONE HAS CAUSED ME TO CONSTANTLY USE ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE DUE TO RANDOMLY RUNNING OUT OF FUEL IN AREAS I WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH, WHICH COULD DEFINITELY BE A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000. *LN CONSUMER STATED FUEL GAUGE SHOWED 1/4 TO 1/8 IN TANK. ONE YEAR LATER CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, BUT OCCASIONALLY TURNED OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN (EVERY FEW DAYS) BETWEEN APPOINTMENTS WITH DEALER. PURGE VALVE REPLACED AGAIN AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AS I WAS LEAVING DEALER CODE 0420. RETURNED TO DEALER AND PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED FINALLY AS PARTIALLY COLLAPSED FUEL TANK (DIFFICULT TO SEE UNLESS CAR WAS ON A LIFT.) DEALER RECOMMENDS REPLACING FUEL TANK, FUEL PUMP, EVAP CAN AND OTHER ASSOCIATED PARTS. BESIDES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THE ONLY SYMPTOM IS OCCASIONAL LACK OF POWER WHEN ACCELERATING. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THIS SYMPTOM IS SOMEWHAT SIMILAR TO THE "SHUDDER" PROBLEM FIXED BY REPLACING THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY. SO, HAVING RECENTLY DONE THAT CLUTCH ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT THIS FELT LIKE A SHADOW OF THE FORMER PROBLEM AND I IGNORED THE ISSUE UNTIL I GOT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS. I CONTACTED FORD DIRECTLY TO SEE IF THEY WOULD REIMBURSE FOR THE EXPENSIVE REPAIRS. THEY HAVE NOT ISSUED A RECALL AND I AM PAST THE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY SO THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST...THEY WERE VERY POLITE, BUT UNWILLING TO PAY. ADDITIONAL NOTE ON THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT: THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, WHEN IT CAME ON, WOULD USUALLY STAY ON FOR A FEW DAYS AND THEN EITHER LATE AT NIGHT OR EARLY IN THE MORNING I WOULD FIND THAT IT WAS OFF. AND IT WOULD STAY OFF FOR A FEW DAYS AT A TIME AS WELL. MY ASSUMPTION WAS THAT IT WAS SOMEHOW RELATED TO THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE OF MY VEHICLE (WHICH IS BLACK) BECAUSE THE LIGHT WAS MORE LIKELY TO BE OFF WHEN IT WAS COOL AND DARK OR OVERCAST. I AM LISTING THE DATE AS JUNE 2017 BUT THE PROBLEM, AT LEAST AS REGARDS THE PURGE VALVE, BEGAN A YEAR EARLIER. AFTER 36,000 MILES THE HORN STOPPED WORKING. AFTER 65,000 MILES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON AND AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALER, WAS TOLD IT HAD A CODE P0456 WHICH IS A SMALL EVAP LEAK PRESENT. SINCE IT'S NOT UNDER WARRANTY, I HAVE TO PAY $119 JUST TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. NOW I HAVE A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE 16S30 WHICH STATES IT MAY BE POSSIBLE THAT MY SIDE DOOR LATCH MAY BREAK, WHICH MAY MAKE THE DOOR DIFFICULT TO LATCH. IT TOOK 4 TRIES FOR MY ENGINE TO START THEN I DROVE TO AN AUTO PARTS STORE THAT WAS CONVENIENTLY ACROSS THE STREET AND THEY PERFORMED A BATTERY TEST. IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT MY BATTERY WAS LOW. THE STORE EMPLOYEE ALSO DID AN ENGINE LIGHT DIAGNOSTIC AND THE CODE P-1450 APPEARED, A PURGE VALVE MALFUNCTION. I DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO REPLACE MY BATTERY AT THE MOMENT AS I HAD CLASS TO ATTEND TO. AFTER CLASS, I DROVE TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP, RIATA FORD IN MANOR, TX, AND INFORMED THEM OF MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEING ON. THE SERVICE ADVISER PLUGGED IN THE COMPUTER CODE READER AND READ THE SAME P-1450 CODE AND DECIDED TO "CLEAR IT". HE ASKED ME IF I HAD RECENTLY FILLED UP THE CAR W/ GAS AND I SAID YES, JUST A FEW HOURS AGO. HE TOLD ME THE CODE HAS BEEN 'CLEARED" AND TO COME BACK IF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES BACK ON. I THEN WENT TO AN AUTO PARTS STORE AND PURCHASED AND INSTALLED A BRAND NEW BATTERY. THE CAR STILL DIDN'T SEEM TO DRIVE AT ITS 100% CAPABILITY AND SOMETIMES ALMOST STALLING OUT. A DAY OR TWO LATER, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES BACK ON AGAIN AND I RETURN TO RIATA FORD. THEY PERFORM A FULL DIAGNOSTIC AND INFORM ME THAT THE PURGE VALVE IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY, CAUSING MY FUEL TANK TO COLLAPSE W/ FUEL PUMP DAMAGE. I WAS QUOTED A $2,000 REPAIR COST. I KNOW THAT FORD HAS ISSUED A RECALL ON THE SAME EXACT PART FOR THEIR FUSION MODELS AS WELL AS MERCURY MILANS. THERE IS ALSO A FLORIDA CLASS ACT LAWSUIT IN PROGRESS FOR THE SAME EXACT CAR PROBLEM. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS PART IN 2015 AND APPEARS THERE WAS OR IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR THIS PROBLEM. YESTERDAY MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE CAR STALLED AND SHUT DOWN. THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES AND GAS PEDALS WOULD NOT WORK. THEN THE CAR WOULD NOT START BACK UP. I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY SINCE THIS APPEARS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE AS WELL AS A RECALL WAS DONE FOR THE SAME THING 2 YEARS AGO. ABOUT 1 AM THIS MORNING I LEFT WORK AND STARTED DOWN THE HIGHWAY WITH THE GAS GAUGE READING 44 MILES TO EMPTY. SINCE IT WAS RATHER LATE I DECIDED TO GO HOME AND JUST GET GAS IN THE MORNING BUT ABOUT HALFWAY HOME IT IT DROPPED ALL THE WAY FROM 44 DOWN TO 17 AND THEN ABOUT A MILE LATER RAN OUT OF GAS. THIS WAS AN ISSUE BUT NOT THE ONE I'M OVERLY CONCERNED ABOUT RIGHT NOW. I PLACED ON MY HAZARDS AND TRIED TO FLAG DOWN SOME HELP TO GET TO THE GAS STATION I HAD TO LEAVE THE CAR PARKED IN A CURVE AND THOUGH I WAS OFF THE ROAD IT WASN'T BY MUCH SO I LEFT THE HAZARDS ON. WHEN I CAME BACK ROUGHLY AN HOUR AND A HALF LATER THE BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. I GOT GAS INTO THE CAR AND GOT THE BATTERY JUMPED AND THEN STARTED THE VEHICLE WITH ONE MAJOR ISSUE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL HAD GONE COMPLETELY DARK SO THERE WAS NO WAY OF TELLING HOW FAST I WAS GOING NOR COULD I SEE HOW MUCH FUEL WAS IN THE TANK OR ENGINE TEMPERATURE. THE OTHER ISSUE WAS THE TURN SIGNALS ALSO STOPPED WORKING. TODAY I CHECKED ALL THE FUSES AND WHEN I PULLED OUT THE ONE FOR THE INSTRUMENT PANEL IT WAS ABSOLUTELY FINE BUT WHEN I PUT IT BACK IN EVERYTHING CAME BACK TO LIFE LIKE THERE WASN'T A PROBLEM ABOUT AN HOUR AND A HALF LATER IN HEAVY TRAFFIC IT ALL WENT DARK AGAIN SO I WAS UNABLE TO USE MY TURN SIGNAL OR TELL HOW FAST I WAS GOING. ONCE AGAIN I JUST PULLED OUT THE SAME FUSE AND PUSH IT BACK IN AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. DOING SOME RESEARCH FOUND FORDS RECALL 14S17-S1 FOR THE FORD FOCUS ST SAME YEAR (2013) AS MINE WITH THE EXACT PROBLEM MY CAR HAD. THE GARAGE THAT I AM RECEIVING THE REPAIRS AT TOLD ME THEY FOUND 5 WIRES THAT WERE SEVERED AND WAS PART OF THE PROBLEM. AT APPROXIMATELY 2:30 AM THIS MORNING 12/31/16, OUR FORD FOCUS BURST INTO FLAMES WHILE STATIONARY IN A PARKING LOT. THANK GOD WE AND OUR 11 MONTH OLD WERE NOT IN THE CAR AT THE TIME. WE HAVE HAD THIS CAR INTO THE SHOP AT LEAST TWICE FOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS THEN OUR ENTIRE MULTI INFORMATION SCREEN INCLUDING RADIO QUIT WORKING, THEY REFUSED TO FIX BECAUSE WE WERE OUT OF WARRANTY. WE HAVE BARELY HAD THIS CAR FOR ONE YEAR AND HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS. NOW WE HAVE NO CAR BECAUSE IT IS TOTALED FROM THE FIRE. THE POLICE BASED ON INITIAL INVESTIGATION SAID IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. I HAVE SEEN ANOTHER 2013 FORD FOCUS CATCH FIRE IN AUSTRALIA AND OTHER PLACES. ABOUT ONE YEAR AFTER WE BOUGHT THIS CAR, I RAN OUT OF GAS ON A CITY STREET, ABOUT ONE MILE FROM A GAS STATION AND THE DASH STILL SHOWED 8 MILES UNTIL EMPTY. I WAS STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND HAD TO CALL FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. AFTER THAT I WAS CAREFUL TO TRY NOT TO LET IT GET THAT LOW AGAIN. RECENTLY, HOWEVER, DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE, I WAS GETTING LOW ON GAS AND ABOUT TO GET OFF AT THE NEXT EXIT IN 2 MILES WHEN I SUDDENLY RAN OUT OF GAS. THIS TIME, THE DASH SHOWED 17 MILES UNTIL EMPTY. I WAS STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE WITH LOTS OF TRAFFIC, CONSTRUCTION, AND 90 DEGREE WHETHER. I WAITED THERE IN THE HEAT FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AND 20 MINUTES FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. ABOUT 2 MONTHS LATER WHEN I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR ITS 3RD RECALL (A SOFTWARE ISSUE) I ASKED IF THE FUEL ISSUE WAS RELATED TO THE SOFTWARE, AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE FUEL PURGE WAS A "COMMON" PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE BUT NOT CONSIDERED A RECALL. MY 16 YEAR OLD SON WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK WHEN HIS CAR JUST STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. HE PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAITED IN HIS HOT CAR TILL WE COULD GET THERE BECAUSE HE WAS UNSURE OF THE SAFETY OF THE AREA. A FRIEND OF HIS DADS TOWED IT TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY IMMEDIATELY KNEW WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT. THEY SAID THE PURGE VALVE WAS STUCK AND CAUSED A VACUUM AFFECT ON THE FUEL TANK CAUSING IT TO CAVE IN AND THE FUEL PUMP TO BREAK. THEY WANTED $1400 TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP AND FIX THE TANK. AFTER CALLING FORD MOTOR COMPANY 2 TIMES. THE FIRST TIME, THEY COMPLETELY REPORTED THE INCORRECT INFORMATION TO THE SERVICE MANAGER SAYING IT WAS A DOOR HANDLE RECALL ISSUE. NOT TRUE AT ALL. THE SECOND TIME THE WERE GOING TO OFFER FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE. SO WE WENT FROM HAVING TO PAY $1400 TO $900 TO NOW I HAD TO PAY $777. I EXPLAINED TO THEM HOW I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED HARM TO MY CHILD. IT CAN ALSO CAUSE HARM TO OTHERS THAT OWN THIS SAME KIND OF VEHICLE IF IT IS NOT CORRECTED. I ASKED THEM IF IT WAS GOING TO TAKE SOMEONE GETTING KILLED BEFORE THEY DECIDE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. SO THEY PUT A BAND AIDE ON MY SON'S CAR AND SENT US AWAY. I'M VERY UNHAPPY WITH THE WAY THIS MATTER HAS BEEN RESOLVED. I WAS SO SCARED.I WAS IN NOTION BARELY MOVE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD ON RT 50.THAT WAS SO SCARY I COULD HAVE DIED.I HAD TO TOW THE CAR TO GET SERVICED AT SHEEHY FORD. THEY GAVE ME THE CAR BACK AGAIN AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON THE ROAD ON MY WAY TO WORK. AT THAT TIME I TOWED IT AGAIN BUT TO KOONS FALLS CHURCH.LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE AND DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING EITHER UNTIL I GOT UPSET AND THEY TOLD ME TO GO FOR A TEST DRIVE WITH THE MECHANIC AND IT HAPPENED WHILE ON THE TEST DRIVE. HE ALSO STATED THAT ONCE YOU TURN OF THE CAR AND YOU TURN IT BACK ON THAT IT WOULD RESET IT SELF AND THAT'S WHY THEY DIDN'T KNOW THAT TCM OR TMC CONTROL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. MY VEHICLE HAS 67K MILES AND WAS PURCHASED CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED FOUR MONTHS AGO. ON WEDNESDAY 8/17/16 I FILLED MY TANK, AND WHEN I TRIED TO START THE IGNITION RIGHT AFTER FUELING, THE CAR SPUTTERED BUT WOULD NOT TURN ON. AFTER A FEW MORE TRIES THE CAR TURNED ON AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AND TURN THE CAR ON AND OFF WITH NO PROBLEM. THE FOLLOWING DAY I WAS DRIVING ON A SURFACE STREET, AND WHEN THE CAR CAME TO A STOP AT A RED LIGHT IT COMPLETELY SHUT OFF EVEN THOUGH MY GAS GAUGE STILL SHOWED FUEL IN THE TANK. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP, AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE PURGE VALVE, WAS STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION CAUSING MY FUEL PUMP TO DELIVER TOO MUCH FUEL TO THE ENGINE, AND CREATED A VACUUM PRESSURE SO STRONG THAT IT WARPED MY TANK AND DAMAGED MY FUEL PUMP AND FUEL SENSOR, MAKING MY SENSOR THINK THERE WAS MORE GAS IN THE TANK THAN THERE REALLY WAS. THEY INFORMED ME THAT I WOULD NEED A NEW PURGE VALVE, A NEW EVAPORATOR CANISTER, A NEW FUEL TANK AND FUEL PUMP, TOTALING $2100 AND WHICH WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE EMISSIONS COMPONENTS ARE ONLY COVERED FOR 2 YEARS OR 25K MILES THROUGH FORD. THE PURGE VALVE MALFUNCTION IS A KNOWN PROBLEM IN 2012 AND 2013 FORD FOCUSES YET A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED BY FORD, AND CUSTOMERS ARE HAVING TO PAY FOR THE EXPENSIVE REPAIRS OUT OF POCKET FOR DEFECTIVE ENGINE COMPONENT THAT WAS NOT DAMAGED BY THE DRIVERS. CAN SOMEONE AT THE NHTSA PLEASE RESEARCH THE VAPOR CANISTER PURGE SOLENOID MALFUNCTION ON 2012-2013 FORD FOCUS? HAVING THE PURGE VALVE STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION CAN COLLAPSE THE FUEL TANK CAUSING CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE WITH LITTLE TO NO WARNING AND COULD POTENTIALLY LEAD TO ACCIDENT AND INJURY IF THE FAILURE OCCURS ON THE HIGHWAY OR IN TRAFFIC. CAR WILL DIE WHILE DRIVING OR STOPPED AT LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. CAR WILL DIE AFTER PUTTING GAS IN TANK. CAR DIED WILL DRIVING AT A SPEEDS OF 20MPH-65MPH ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. WAS FORCED TO MAKE DANGEROUS MANEUVERS TO GET OFF HIGHWAY AND ON 2 OCCASIONS CAR DIED IN MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. WAS TOLD BY MECHANIC THE VEHICLE GAS TANK HAD THE PRESSURE OF A DIESEL (1000LBS) WHEN A NORMAL SEDAN SHOULD BE 300-400LBS OF PRESSURE. THE PRESSURE CAUSED THE GAS TANK TO BECOME INVERTED AND BROKE ALL ATTACHMENTS CONTAINED TO THE FUEL PUMP. THIS IS NOT THE RESULT OF DRIVER. THE CAR IS DEFECTIVE AND THE RESULTS MAY LEAD TO SERIOUS INJURIES OR POSSIBLE DEATH.

I PUT MY 4-WAY FLASHERS ON, SLOWED DOWN AND MOVED TO THE RIGHT LANE AS A SAFETY MEASURE. AFTER ANOTHER FEW MILES BOTH LIGHTS CAME ON AND STAYED ON AND THE CAR SHUT DOWN. I PULLED OVER TO THE BERM, WAITED A FEW MINUTES, TRIED STARTING, IT STARTED AND DROVE HOME WITH NO ISSUES. I DROVE TO WORK THE NEXT DAY WITH NO ISSUES. ON THE WAY HOME THINGS STARTED HAPPENING AGAIN, THE CAR SHUT DOWN, BUT THIS TIME AFTER WAITING A FEW MINUTES THE CAR NEVER STARTED. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY FOUND THAT A WIRING HARNESS WAS UP AGAINST THE THROTTLE BODY AND WORE THROUGH THE PROTECTIVE INSULATING TAPE, THEN THE WIRES CAUSING THE PROBLEM. ALSO, IN SPEAKING TO THE MECHANIC HE SAID THAT THE BRACKET THE HARNESS WAS USING TO KEEP IN PLACE WAS CAUSING IT TO BE UP AGAINST THE THROTTLE BODY SO HE UNCLIPPED THE BRACKET. I'M GOING TO CALL THE FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER TO DISCUSS. ANOTHER ISSUE WAS THAT THE "BOOK" SAID IT WOULD TAKE 3 HOURS, BUT ONLY TOOK 2. AND YES THEY TRIED TO CHARGE ME FOR THE 3. INTERESTING AT $125/ HOUR, THAT WOULD BE $250/ HOUR THEY'RE MAKING WHILE THE MECHANIC STARTS ON THE NEXT CAR! UNBELIEVABLE.

DECEMBER 2015, DRIVING ON A CITY STREET, ONCE AGIN TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING AND VEHICLE SHUT OFF IN MID MOTION WHILE GOING 30 MPH. IN FEBRUARY 2016, VEHICLE STARTED NORMALLY, ONCE WE PULLED OUT ONTO A ROAD, CAR BEGAN VIOLENTLY BUCKING TRANSMISSION SEEMED TO ENGAGE THEN DISENGAGE PLACING THE VEHICLE IN DANGER OF BEING HIT BY CARS FROM BEHIND, AND JOSTLING PASSENGERS SUBSTANTIALLY. IN MARCH 2016, VEHICLE WAS DRIVING 70 MPH DOWN FREEWAY WHEN TRANSMISSION SLIPPED, THE TRANSMISSION THEN SEEMED TO ENGAGE NORMALLY AGAIN, BUT AS VEHICLE EXITED FREEWAY ON FEEDER ROAD, TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED, BUCKING CAR, DRIVER HAD GAS PEDAL FLOORED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD ONLY MOVE A FEW FEET. AFTER TRANSMISSION RE ENGAGED, THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD WITHOUT DRIVERS FOOT ON GAS, PUTTING VEHICLE AT RISK FOR HITTING CAR IN FRONT OF IT. EACH TIME VEHICLE HAS HAD AN INCIDENT, WE HAVE TAKEN IT TO A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP, TRANSMISSION COMPUTER MODULE WAS REPLACED, CLUTCHES REPLACED, TRANSMISSION RE PROGRAMMED 3 TIME, PCM REPLACED. EACH TIME VEHICLE HAS BEEN GIVEN BACK WITHIN A MONTH THEIR IS AN ISSUE. FORD HAS TOLD US THAT THEY REALLY DO TO HAVE A FIX FOR THE PROBLEMS, AND EACH TIME WE ARE GIVEN AN UNSAFE VEHICLE BACK THAT HAS IMPOSED DANGER ON OUR LIVES AND OTHERS ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. FORD EVEN RETURNED VEHICLE AFTER IT HAD STALLED ON THEM, BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING ELSE WRONG. WE HAVE BEEN VERY LUCKY THAT EACH INCIDENT HAS NOT RESULTED IN A CRASH.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF. THE CONTACT PLACED THE GEAR IN NEUTRAL AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AFTER THREE ATTEMPTS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE PURGE CANISTER VALVE WAS DEFECTIVE AND CAUSED THE FUEL TANK TO COLLAPSE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE DEFECTIVE PART WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE PART WAS NOT RECALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. HAD TOWED. RAN OUT OF GAS (IN MOTION ON A HIGHWAY, 65 + MPH) WHILE MONITOR NOTED 150 TO EMPTY, FOUND TO BE VALVE PRESSURE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FAILURE, RESULTING IN GAS TANK REPLACEMENT

I WAS DRIVING IN TOWN, HAD NOT HAD ANY INDICATION PREVIOUS TO THIS THAT THERE WAS ANYTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR. AS I WAS AT AN INTERSECTION, PULLING AWAY FROM A FULL STOP, THE CAR JUST QUIT. 100% WOULD NOT MOVE ANOTHER INCH EVEN WITH COAXING ETC. AFTER TRYING TO START THE CAR A FEW MORE TIMES I REALIZED IT WAS NOT GOING TO START AGAIN AND GOT IT TOWED. THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED. THE WAY THE CAR STOPPED MADE THE SITUATION DANGEROUS. SUDDEN AND WITHOUT WARNING. I PUT THIS HERE, IN CASE IT BECOMES A PATTERN WITH THIS VEHICLE.

WHILE DRIVING DOWN A HIGHWAY GOING AROUND 70 MPH THE CAR SHUTS DOWN. I PULL OVER AND CALL FORD ROAD SIDE ASSISTANTS. 2 HOURS LATER RSA BRINGS GAS AND I PAY THEM $50 BECAUSE I'M OUT OF THE WARRANTY THAT COVERS RSA. AS THE GENTLEMEN POURS GAS IN MY TANK THE GAS POURS RIGHT OUT. I CALL MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND HAVE MY VEHICLE TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP LOOKS AT MY VEHICLE THE NEXT DAY AND THEY SAY THE GAS TANKED WAS HIT BY SOMETHING ON THE ROAD WHILE DRIVING. I REPLY I DID NOT HEAR ANYTHING HIT MY CAR. THEY REQUEST MY INSURANCE INFO SO THEY CAN CALL TO FILE A COMP CLAIM. I SAY NO I WILL CALL MY INSURANCE COMPANY MYSELF. MY INSURANCE ADJUSTER COMES OUT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO LOOK AT THE DAMAGE AND WHEN THE DEALERSHIP SHOWS HIM THE GAS TANK THEY SEE THAT THE GAS TANK IS DEFORMED AND THE FUEL PUMP IS FRIED. THE ADJUSTER SAYS THIS IS A MECHANICAL PROBLEM NOT A COMP CLAIM. THE DEALERSHIP DOES SOME FURTHER INVESTIGATING AND SAYS THAT THERE IS A SEAL THAT DID NOT CLOSE IN THE GAS TANK AFTER PUMPING GAS AND THE GAS TANK WAS SUCTION UPPED WITH THE PRESSURE WHILE DRIVING AND FRIED THE GAS PUMP. MY CONCERN IS THE SAFETY OF MYSELF AND THE PEOPLE DRIVING AROUND ME. IF GAS WAS SPRAYING ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND THE GAS TANK AND FUEL PUMP MALFUNCTIONS I THINK THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL. MY SERVICE ADVISOR DID INFORM ME THAT THE FORD MODELS FIESTA, FOCUS AND F-150 HAVE HAD THESE ISSUES, BUT THE NEWER MODELS HAVE BEEN FIXED.

WHILE TRAVELLING ON AN INTERSTATE IN THE PASSING LANE, THE CHECK ENGINE LITE CAME ON AND THERE WAS AN INSTANTANEOUS AND COMPLETE LOSS OF TRANSMISSION. WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER, RESTART CAR, AND HAD A COUPLE OF GEARS, BUT SAME THING HAPPENED 3 MILES LATER. FORD WARRANTY SIMPLY RESET THE TRANSMISSION COMPUTER. ON 26 MAY, ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK, THE TRANSMISSION AGAIN CUT OUT; THIS TIME I HAD 2 GEARS AND WAS ABLE TO GET TO A DEALERSHIP. THIS TIME THEY REPLACED THE DUAL CLUTCH TRANSITION CONTROL MODULE (TCM). 2 TOTAL AND SUDDEN FAILURES OF THE TRANSMISSION, AND FORD ONLY RESETTING AND NOT REPLACING THE TCM THE 1ST TIME IS DANGEROUS TO ME AND MY FAMILY, AND IRRESPONSIBLE BY FORD. THIS IS MUCH MORE UNSAFE THAN THE AIRBAGS ISSUE. THIS IS THE 4TH CLUTCH ISSUE: 3 NEW CLUTCHES ALREADY PUT IN DUE TO THE SHUDDERING/JERKING ISSUE. BUT TOTAL LOSS OF POWER IS SIMPLY DANGEROUS.

THE CAR WILL NEARLY STALL (AS IF TRANSMISSION SLIPPED/DISENGAGED), ENGINE SPUTTERS, TRANSMISSION GRINDS AND JERKS THEN GEARS CATCH AND CAR LURCHES FORWARDS AND SPEEDS OFF AS IF IT IS POSSESSED. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ENTER MOVING TRAFFIC AND ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS WHEN CROSSING MULTIPLE LANES OF TRAFFIC OR IF THE DRIVER IS LESS EXPERIENCED OR ISN'T AWARE THAT HE/SHE NEEDS TO ACCOMMODATE IT. THE MORE MILES ACCUMULATED, THE WORSE AND MORE PRONOUNCED THE ISSUE. FORD "REPROGRAMMED" MY TRANSMISSION JULY 2013 (11,000 MILES) WITH NO RESULTS. FORD'S RESPONSE, "SHUDDER" IS NORMAL AND THE INTENTIONAL DESIGN OF THE CAR. THE ISSUE WORSENED TO THE POINT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD DISENGAGE WHILE CLIMBING HILLS ( WORSE ON MODERATE TO STEEP GRADES) AND RELIABILITY OF THIS CAR DETERIORATED TO THE POINT I WAS ROLLING BACKWARDS DOWN A HILL I HAD ATTEMPTED TO CLIMB AT 50-55MPH BECAUSE THE CAR JUST STOPS MOVING FORWARD THEN THE CAR WILL GRIND, BANG SHAKE, JERK THEN LURCH FORWARD AND SPEED OFF LIKE IT FINALLY GOT GAS AND FOUND THE GEARS (MAY 1,2015). OCTOBER 22, 2014, I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE, WITH THE FORD LETTER IN HAND AND ASKED THEM TO CHECK MY CAR AGAIN. PARTS WERE ORDERED AND IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL THEN BUT, IF I WAS LEFT STRANDED TO CALL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. FORD IS STALLING PROGRESS & REPAIR OF THIS ISSUE BECAUSE THEY INTEND TO AVOID LEMON LAW. MY COMPLAINTS WENT UNDOCUMENTED ON SERVICE REQUEST PAPERWORK BECAUSE "SHUDDER IS NORMAL/INTENTIONAL OPERATION" AND SUBSEQUENT COMPLAINTS WERE IGNORED/UNDOCUMENTED BECAUSE THERE WERE NO PARTS TO REPAIR IT. RESALE & TRADE-IN VALUE IS LOW, DEPRECIATE AT A FASTER RATE AND ARE GENERALLY UNSAFE . IT ALSO MAKES NOISES THAT I THOUGHT WERE THE DOOR LOCKS CLICKING WHEN CAR IS OFF, LATER TO BE TOLD ITS THE TRANSMISSION IS RE-SETTING? THE TRANSMISSION ISSUES STILL NOT RESOLVED ALONG WITH THE ELECTRICAL ISSUES. THE STEREO DISPLAY GOES BLANK, AT TIMES SHOWS INCORRECT DATE AND CLOCK JUMPS TO DIFFERENT HOURS. THE CAR LUNGES FORWARD WHEN YOU GET TO ABOUT 25 TO 30 MPH OR HESITATES WHEN YOU EXCEL. WHEN YOU PUT IN PARK IT WILL LUNGE FORWARD OR ACT LIKE YOU'VE POPPED THE CLUTCH EVEN WHEN BRAKE IS ON. IT SHUDDERS, HAS BUMP & BANG NOISES, LUNGES, SUSPENSION NOISES. I CAN FEEL BUMPING/THUMPING UNDER MY FEET WHEN TURNING CORNERS. WHEN I HAVE ISSUES WITH THE DIGITAL PANEL, I TAKE A PICTURE. ONCE I TURN VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON IT SOMETIMES CLEARS IT UP. I'VE COMPLAINED ABOUT TIRES NOISES AND RIDE, THEY SAY TIRES ARE FINE. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO JUST TRADE IT IN AND THE DEALER SUGGESTED I CONTACT FORD MOTOR TO HAVE THEM BUY IT BACK. I HAVE PLACED A COMPLAINT ON THE FORD WEBSITE, BUT HAVE YET TO RECEIVE A RESPONSE. DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND CAR ACTS AS IF STARVED OF FUEL AND RAPIDLY DECREASES SPEED. THERE WAS NO POWER, BUT VEHICLE WAS ON. THERE HAVE NOW BEEN THREE INCIDENTS WHILE ON FREEWAY AT SPEED THAT THE VEHICLE HAS DONE THIS AND EACH TIME I HAVE HAD TO PULL OFF ONTO SHOULDER (ALMOST GETTING HIT BY TRAFFIC EACH TIME). LUCKILY THE FIRST 2 TIMES I WAS ABLE TO RESTART CAR AND GET OFF FREEWAY BY STAYING ON SHOULDER SINCE CAR COULD NOT REACH FREEWAY SPEEDS. THIS LAST INCIDENT (ON 1/11/15) LEFT ME STRANDED ON FREEWAY BETWEEN AN ON RAMP AND FIRST LANE. THEY DID NOT DO ANYTHING WITH FIRST INCIDENT BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM. AFTER SECOND INCIDENT FORD REPLACED FUEL PUMP, GASKET AND TANK. AFTER TWO WEEKS AND FOR A THIRD TIME VEHICLE AGAIN "STALLED" ON FREEWAY AT 65-70MPH. CAR IS AGAIN GETTING SAME PARTS REPLACED. I HAVE A 2013 FOCUS WITH 28600 MILES. ON A DAILY BASIS I WHEN I ACCELERATE IT RATTLES AND HESITATES. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS A SMART TRANSMISSION AND IS JUST WHAT IT DOES. ON OCT 3RD 2014 I WAS AT A BUSY INTERSECTION AND WAITING FOR THE LIGHT TO TURN GREEN. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND THE CAR ACTED AS THOUGH IT WAS IN NEUTRAL AND WOULD NOT DRIVE. AFTER ABOUT 15 SECONDS WITH EVERYONE HONKING AT ME IT STARTED TO MOVE FORWARD BUT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS GOING BACK AND FORTH FROM NEUTRAL TO DRIVE AND I COULDN'T GO OVER 30. I BARELY MADE IT TO A PARKING LOT. I PULLED OVER AND CALLED THE DEALERSHIP BUT IT WAS TO LATE AND THE ASSOCIATE SAID I HAD TO CALL BACK AT 7 IN THE MORNING. MY CAR SHUDDERED ALL THE WAY HOME ESPECIALLY WHEN I HAD TO STOP AND ACCELERATE AT A LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. I CALLED IN THE MORNING AND THEY SAID TO BRING THE CAR IN. THE NEXT DAY IT DROVE FINE. THEY THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE BAD GAS DUE TO THE FACT THE ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON DURING THE MALFUNCTION. THAT JUST MADE ME MAD. AS I PULLED OUT INTO THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC FROM A GAS STATION, I REALIZED MY CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE BEYOND 15-20 MPH. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO THE RIGHT HAND LANE AND PROCEEDED TO THE STOP LIGHT, WHICH WAS ABOUT A 100 YARDS DOWN THE ROAD. AT THE RED LIGHT I PLACED THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL AND DISCOVERED THE ENGINE WOULD NOT GO BEYOND 3500-4000 RPM'S. I THEN TURNED ON THE WARNING FLASHERS, AND WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND PROCEEDED AT 15-20 MPH UNTIL I COULD TURN INTO A SAFE AREA ABOUT 1 MILE DOWN. I THEN HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER. WHEN THE DEALER RAN MY VIN# THROUGH THEIR SYSTEM, IT SHOWED THAT A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN HAD BEEN ISSUED REGARDING THIS VERY PROBLEM. THEY THEN REPAIRED THE CAR AND IT NOW SEEMS TO BE RUNNING OK, ALTHOUGH I DON'T FEEL REAL GOOD ABOUT IT. HOPEFULLY SOMETHING LIKE THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN, ESPECIALLY IF I AM IN A SITUATION LIKE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT HIGH SPEEDS.
