erratic shifting and eratic slipping gears , first happened while on highway and then it wouldnt go in any gear besides reverse and would say transmission overheat wait 5 min . caused another veihcal behind me to slam on there brakes and they ended up getting rear ended from the car behind them ..... all becouse of my cars tcm or transmission issues>!!!! also not too mention ` random unusual noises coming from clutch or shifter when not even start car yet _delayed start and delayed shifting .. i could go on and on this car is a nightmare

I have a current recall on my transmission I notify for it. I went up there to get the recall fixed. They plugged it up to the machine to see about my transmission, and they said it came back with a cold that was not associated with the recall for my transmission, but it did say something was wrong with my transmission, I looked into that popped up on the cold reader and it’s it. I gave them the number and they said that Ford will be unable to pay for it and they told me I would have to pay $175 in order to hook it up to the main machine to see what exactly the code is if it match the cold that will pay for me new transmission. I explained to them that if I have a recall on the car for my door, lash and my transmission , why would I have to pay for so he kept running around loops not trying to give me a correct response basically just making me trying to pay for them to hook up something that should be for free so my car is accelerating is not accelerating speed, it keeps on clicking is something to do with my transmission, which it has a recall on it before in Orange will not fix it Paid paid off so I need someone to help me solve this matter because Ford and Orange is trying to make me pay for something that is a recall that should be fixed and free if someone call me back at [XXX] thank you INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

My car will intermittently lose power, such as in the middle of an intersection, or turning in front of another vehicle, which puts me and my children at risk. The transmission is throwing a code for overheating and malfunctioning, and there is an open customer satisfaction bulletin for the transmission control module, but Ford refuses to replace it because it’s not throwing “the correct code “ I have had the clutch replaced three times if not four in the time that I’ve had the vehicle and it’s more than frustrating. It’s dangerous along with losing power. It will intermittently catch the gear that is trying to shift into and cause the car to accelerate rapidly, the transmission, shutter control module and clutch have been an issue in this car, along with a class action lawsuit, and now Ford has had my vehicle for three weeks, and refuses to do the open service campaign for the TCM because of the code issue and it refuses to do the clutch because even though it was replaced three years ago, they state that the warranty is only for 12 months regardless of the fact that it was the fourth clutch that put in the car , I am working with someone at Ford warranty in hopes of getting them covered because I know they have done it in other cases, but I am more than frustrated with the service. I’ve received so far very unprofessional, which is unfortunate because overall I do love my car I would’ve kept it all this time if I didn’t I 10-year-old car should not have had to have the transmission clutch replaced three times or four times in 10 years and under 150,000 miles.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that during acceleration and takeoff, the vehicle shuddered and jumped forward. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that a reset was needed. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

There are multiple issues going wrong with my car and I have 5 children and this makes me angry and scared to drive it 1. Vehicle completely shuts down if you go under 1/4 tank and NOT on red at all! No gas light or anything 2. The hesitation from stop to go is getting worse" mechanics tell me this is normal" for a focus and now sometimes when accelerating on the highway it gets stuck in certain speeds and feels rougher 3. Now there is a chain like rattling noise upon idle that is annoying and embarrassing 4 the codes state oxygen sensor ,speed sensor,fuel valve issue, and power train and abs... It's 100.00 per issue to diagnose. How is anyone able to afford this? I'm not a mechanic but everytime I take my car in they give it back saying there's no issue or I have to pay more fees to find the issue before anything can be replaced? This is crazy! I don't feel safe driving this car with my babies in it but with student loans and my kids school costs I can't seem to save if I'm paying all these fees to try to figure out what the issues are . The front windshield is horrible because it's hard to see out of even when I clean it w auto glass cleaner, which I have never experienced before and is very dangerous.

WHEN I DRIVE IN THE RAIN MY CAR WILL SPUTTER AND LOSE SPEED. THE OIL LIGHT AND BATTERY LIGHT TURNS ON AND IT DIES. I CAN GET IT TO TURN OVER BUT IT IMMEDIATELY DIES.I HAVE HAD TO GET IT TOWED TWICE. STILL CAN'T FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT THE POSTED SPEED OF 65 MPH WHEN THE CAR ENGINE RPM DROPPED TO 2000 AND THEN BACK UP TO 4000 THE CAR IMMEDIATELY SLOWED TO 50 MPH CAUSING TRAFFIC BEHIND ME TO SLAM IN THEIR BRAKES. THE CAR WOULDN'T SHIFT TO SPEED UP CAUSING ME TO PULL OVER AND CREEP TO A GAS STATION.

I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT ISSUES WITH THIS CAR SINCE I GOT IT 5 YEARS AGO. I WAS LEAVING TO TAKE MY SON TO A DR APPOINTMENT. I GOT ABOUT A MILE DOWN THE ROAD AND THE SERVICE ENGINE NOW POPS UP. A LOUD POP SOUND CAME THRU MY SPEAKERS AND THE RADIO STOPPED WORKING. THEN I STARTED LOSING RPMS AND POWER TO MY CAR IT WOULDN'T GO OVER 10MPH. I WAS ABLE TO LIMP IT BACK HOME VERY SLOWLY. I'M NOT SURE WHAT'S GOING ON I'VE REPLACED THE CRANKSHAFT/CAMSHAFT SENSOR AND PURGE VALVE. I'VE HAD ALL THE RECALLS FIXED ON IT DEALING WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND CLUTCH ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO. WHEN FORD MADE THIS CAR THEY CLEARLY WASN'T THINKING STRAIGHT. THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE AND I'M SO GLAD WE MADE IT BACK HOME SAFE MY CHILD WAS TERRIFIED. SINCE HAVING THE CAR, I'VE CONSTANTLY EXPERIENCED JERKING WHILE ACCELERATING, LACK OF ACCELERATION, WHICH WAS DANGEROUS, WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC, OR ON THE HIGHWAY WITH TRUCKS SPEEDING BY YOU BECAUSE MY CAR WOULDN'T ACCELERATE QUICK ENOUGH. I CONSTANTLY COMPLAINED TO FORD DEALER ABOUT THESE ISSUES AND THE KEPT REPAIRING IT UNDER THE GUISE THAT 'OH YOUR TCM(TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) BEDS REPROGRAMMING' OR IT WAS 'YOUR CAR WAS ORIGINALLY A STICK SHIFT THAT THEY TURNED AUTOMATIC, AND WHAT YOU FEEL, IS YOUR CAR SHIFTING GEARS'. THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY ASSURED ME I DIDN'T HAVE TRANSMISSION ISSUES, SO I LET THEM FIX THIS SAME ISSUE MORE THAN 5 TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF WARRANTY. IN JULY 2020, MY CAR STOPPED AND WOULDN'T DRIVE AT ALL. I TOOK IT TO FORD, AND THEY CLAIMED IT WAS THE TCM AGAIN, AND SUPPOSEDLY FIXED WITH NO CUSTOMER TO ME. HOWEVER, THE CAR NEVER STOP JERKING OR THE ACCELERATION WAS ALWAYS LACKING, LIKE IT'S ALWAYS DONE, BEFORE AND AFTER A REPAIR. OCTOBER 11,2020, I TAKE MY CAR IN FOR THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS, AND NOW I NEED A TRANSMISSION CLUTCH, THAT FORD CLAIMS IS $1700 DOLLARS TO FIX. NOW, I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR THESE EXACT ISSUES, I'VE BEEN EXPERIENCING, ALL THESE YEARS. BUT, NOW MY WARRANTY IS UP ON THE TRANSMISSION AND NOW IT'S SUPPOSEDLY GONE OUT. I HAVE LESS THAN 6 MONTHS TO PAY ON THIS VEHICLE, I'M A SINGLE MOM, A STUDENT, AND UNEMPLOYED DUE TO THE PANDEMIC. I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT HAVE THIS MONEY, AS I FEEL FORD AS BLACKBALLED ME, AND AS I READ REVIEWS, APPARENTLY THOUSANDS OF OTHER PEOPLE AS WELL. I AM DEVASTATED, AND DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO. I REPORTED THIS ISSUE WHEN I HAD MY FOCUS IN 2014....IT WAS DISMISSED. NOW, 4 TIMES IT WAS IN THE DEALERSHIP AND 4 TIMES IT WASN'T FIXED, 4 TIMES I HAD TO PAY FOR A RENTAL FOR 2 WEEKS EACH TIME, COSTING ME A TOTAL OF $2,755 IN ALL FOR NOTHING TO BE RESOLVED. I TRADED THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT WAS LITERALLY A SAFETY HAZZARD BUT NO ONE WOULD DESIGNATE IT THAT AT THE TIME.

THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTO ZONE WHERE IT WAS FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE CANISTER PURGE VALVE WHICH WAS PART OF THE RECALL. ON 3/2/2020 CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO RACEWAY FORD OF DARLINGTON TO BE REPAIRED. RACEWAY FORD REFUSED TO REPAIR VEHICLE BECAUSE MIKE REICHENBACH HAD CLOSED THE RECALL. CONSUMER SAYS VEHICLE CONTINUES TO STALL RANDOMLY AND THAT AFTER REFUELING VEHICLE HAS TO BE RUNNING WITH THE GAS PEDAL DEPRESSED BEFORE IT CAN BE DRIVEN. *DL

WHEN I PURCHASED MY CAR USED FEBRUARY 2017 AT 70,000 MILES, I WAS GIVEN A CARFAX STATING THE ONLY ISSUE WAS WITH THE TRANSMISSION CLUTCH. LESS THAN A MONTH IN, I SEEMED TO BE LOSING POWER SO I TOOK IT TO TOWN & COUNTRY FORD IN MADISON, TN. IT WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE AFOREMENTIONED RECALL ISSUE AND I DROVE IN RELATIVE SATISFACTION FOR ALMOST AN ENTIRE YEAR. THEN I TOOK IT INTO TWO RIVERS FORD (MT. JULIET) FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THE SERVICE GUY WAS VERY AMICABLE AND EVEN ARRANGED FOR ME TO HAVE A LOANER CAR WHILE THEY HAD MINE. THE SAME ISSUE WAS DIAGNOSED, BUT WITH AN ADDITIONAL FIX. I PAID $125 FOR SOME PART NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL WARRANTY BECAUSE I WAS TOLD THAT IF IT WERE TO MALFUNCTION AGAIN, IT MAY NOT BE COVERED. THE THIRD TIME I TOOK IT IN (BACK TO MT JULIET) THEY LOOKED AT IT, DETERMINED IT WAS THE SAME ISSUE, AND SAID I'D HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET BECAUSE THE RECALL WARRANTY WAS ONLY GOOD FOR 100,000 MILES. I COULDN'T AFFORD $2300 QUITE TO FIX IT SO I RETURNED THE LOANER AND CLAIMED MY VEHICLE, BUT NOT WITHOUT MAKING IT ABUNDANTLY CLEAR THAT WASN'T SATISFIED WITH HOW THE SITUATION WAS HANDLED.

WE HAVE HAD 4 CLUTCHES ,A TCM, 2 PURGE VALE REPLACEMENTS AND COUNTLESS SOFTWARE UPDATES. IT HAS COMPLETELY LOST THE ABILITY TO PROPEL ITSELF ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS; ONCE WHILE WE WERE TAKING IT IN TO THE DEALER . WHEN WE GOT TO THE DEALER THEY TOLD US THAT "YES THAT CAN HAPPEN SOMETIMES " !!! PLEASE HELP US AND HOLD FORD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR RECKLESS DECISION TO ALLOW THESE VEHICLES TO BE SOLD TO CHUMPS LIKE ME . THEY HAVE DELIBERATELY AND REPEATEDLY BLAMED US FOR THEIR MISTAKE . DPS6 TRANSMISSION SHUDDER AND SLIPPING ISSUE. VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED UNDER MULTIPLE OWNERS AND HAD THE CLUTCHES REPLACED AS WELL AS THE SOFTWARE RE-FLASHED. FORD DEALER STATED THEY ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE TOLD ME THEY WOULD GET IT FIXED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY OFFERED BY FORD. I WAS CHARGED FOR A RE-FLASH I WAS NEVER CALLED TO AUTHORIZED, THAT HAS NOT FIXED THE SHUDDERING ISSUE. I WAS ALMOST IN AN ACCIDENT WHEN THE CARD DECIDED TO NOT SHIFT GOING THROUGH A STOP LIGHT AND THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME ALMOST REAR ENDED ME. I CONTACTED FORD AND THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED "YOU NEED TO DRIVE IT MORE AGGRESSIVELY". FORD OPENED A CASE TO REVIEW THE POOR SERVICE AND THEY HAVE NEVER CONTACTED ME AGAIN.

AT TIMES I WILL BE UNABLE TO ACCELERATE, WITH MY PEDAL TO THE FLOOR, WHILE THE CAR SEEMS TO 'COAST' AND WITH NO EXPLANATION. OTHER TIMES I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE'S ALERT LIGHTS COME ON WITH A WARNING THE TRANSMISSION HAS OVERHEATED AND TO PULL OVER 'IMMEDIATELY.' THIS IS DIFFICULT TO DO WHEN ON A 55 MPH ZONE OR ON THE HIGHWAY; THE INABILITY TO ACCELERATE HAS LED TO MULTIPLE INCIDENCES PULLING INTO TRAFFIC OR ATTEMPTING TO MERGE WHERE VEHICLES HAVE HAD TO SWERVE OR STOP BECAUSE I AM IN THEIR WAY. IN DAILY DRIVING, THERE IS A CONSTANT SHUDDER THAT MAKES ME BELIEVE THE VEHICLE WILL FAIL AT ANY MOMENT. THIS VEHICLE WAS THE DAILY DRIVER OF MY WIFE AND WE WERE FORCED TO LEASE ANOTHER VEHICLE BECAUSE SHE DID NOT FEEL SAFE. IT HAS BEEN IN FOR A MULTITUDE OF REPAIRS AND REQUIRES MORE. HOWEVER, NO DEALERSHIP IS ABLE TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT OR PROVIDE A LOANER, EVEN THOUGH IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE A COVERED REPAIR. I EXCEEDED MY WARRANTY TO HAVE IT ENTIRELY COVERED SIMPLY BECAUSE NO DEALER COULD SCHEDULE ME. THE PROBLEMS BEGAN IN 2013 AND HAVE PERSISTED SINCE, TO THIS DATE. I PURCHASED MY BRAND NEW 2013 FORD FOCUS, FROM THE DEALER IN MAY OF 2013. I TOOK IT BACK A WEEK LATER BECAUSE IT WAS "CLUNKY" WHEN ACCELERATING. THE FORD DEALERSHIP TOLD ME "THE CAR JUST NEEDS TO LEARN HOW YOU DRIVE, WE WILL RESET THE COMPUTER". SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD IT "RESET" 4 TIMES AND AM ON MY 3RD CLUTCH REPAIR. LAST WEEK WHILE BRAKING MY CAR DECIDED TO ACCELERATE INSTEAD. THIS IS THE 4TH TIME IN A YEAR, ONE RESULTING IN A BUMPER ON BUMPER ACCIDENT WITH MINIMAL DAMAGE. I DONT FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY CAR, I COMMUTE TWO HOURS A DAY. FORD SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES! WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A LIGHT ACCELERATION FOR A CITY GREEN TRAFFIC SIGNAL FOR A LEFT 90 DEGREE TURN THE CAR UNILATERALLY INCREASED THE SPEED AND RPM'S. THE CAR WAS MOVING SO FAST I NEARLY HIT A TREE ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE INTERSECTION AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. I HAD TO REPEATEDLY HIT THE GAS PEDDLE WITH MY FOOT TO STOP THE ACCELERATION, WHILE MAINTAINING DIRECTIONAL CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I AM STILL WAITING FOR FORD TO CONTACT ME ABOUT THE OTHER FUEL RECALL ISSUE RELATED TO THIS VEHICLE SO THEY CAN ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AS WELL.

THE CAR STUTTERS ON ACCELERATION, SHIFTS HARD, AND OCCASIONALLY THERE IS A DELAY WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS PRESSED. A RECALL WAS PERFORMED ON THIS CAR AND THE CLUTCH WAS REPLACED, BUT STILL HAD SAME ISSUE. THIS CAR HAS BEEN SEEN 8 TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE, AND HAS NEVER BEEN RESOLVED. THE CLUTCH THAT WAS REPLACED DURING THE RECALL HAS FAILED THE PERFORMANCE TEST, BUT THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT REPLACE DUE TO EXPIRED WARRANTY. RECENTLY ANOTHER RECALL WAS ISSUED ON THIS VEHICLE DUE TO A STUCK CANNISTER PURGE VALVE. THIS CAUSES THE ENGINE TO STALL AND THE FUEL METER TO READ INCORRECTLY. THIS CAUSED ME TO RUN OUT OF GAS ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY GAS METER REPORTED I STILL HAD HALF A TANK OF FUEL. ON 11/29/18, THE DEALERSHIP PERFORMED THE RECALL AND BELIEVING MY FUEL METER TO NOW BE ACCURATE, I RAN OUT OF GAS AGAIN AT A QUARTER TANK FULL. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS BACK ON AND IT IS AGAIN THROWING A CODE FOR THE PURGE VALVE. THIS CAR HAS SEVERAL SAFETY ISSUES WHICH FORD DEALER HAS BEEN UNABLE AND UNWILLING TO REMEDY.

DEALER CALLED A FEW DAYS LATER AND STATED IT'S A 800USD REPAIR ON A ELECTRICAL HARNESS ISSUE. IT IS THE SAME ELECTRICAL HARNESS RECALL THAT FORD RELEASED BUT ONLY FOR THE FORD FOCUS ST MODELS AND NOT SE. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THIS YEAR THAT I'VE BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER FOR MAJOR PERFORMANCE ISSUES. THE FIRST ONE IS COVERED BY THE TRANSMISSION PCM RECALL. FOR A 2013 MODEL THAT IS BARELY BEING USED (CAR HAS ONLY 35K MILEAGE) THIS IS UNACCEPATABLE. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR DIED AND A LIGHT SAYING THERE WAS A TRANSMISSION FAILURE CAME ON. THE ENTIRE TCM WAS REPLACED AFTER TOWING INTO THE DEALER. SHAKING ONLY GOT WORSE. NOW THE RPMS WILL JUMP AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS EVEN IN CRUISE CONTROL. PARTS STILL ON BACK ORDER. FORD SAYS THAT THIS IS "NORMAL" FOR THIS CAR AND THERE IS NO REAL FIX. THE ONLY FIX IS TO CONSTANTLY HAVE IT SERVICED BUT EVEN THAT DOESN'T FIX THE PROBLEM.

THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS ISSUE HAS OCCURRED. LAST OCTOBER WAS THE FIRST. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR RPM GAUGE RACED BUT THERE WAS NO ACCELERATION. THE CAR JERKS HARD. FIRST TIME MECHANIC (DON CHALMERS CAPITOL FORD) TOLD ME THAT THESE ISSUES WERE NORMAL, THAT ALL OF THESE CARS HAVE SHUTTERING ISSUES, WHICH TO ME WAS A FRIGHTENING STATEMENT. THEY ADDRESSED A14M01 TRANSMISSION CLUTCH SHUDDER AND INPUT SHAFT SEAL WARRANT (FSA). THE TOTAL BILL WAS $1,377.88. THIS TIME, I WAS TOLD I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY WORK AND DIAGNOSTICS. I STATED THAT I EXPERIENCED THE SAME EXACT SHUTTERING, SHIFTING ISSUES AND NOISES AS THE FIRST TIME AND WAS TOLD IT COULD BE ANYTHING. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THIS CAR.

MY CAR STILL SHOOK AND SPUTTERED DURING EVERY SINGLE DRIVE BUT IT BECAME INCREASINGLY WORSE OVER 2015. I BROUGHT IN FOR SERVICING IN THE END OF APRIL 2015. FORD SAID "ALL SET" AND AFTER I PRESSED FOR MORE ANSWERS THEY SAID IT WAS DUE TO THE COMPUTER NOT RECOGNIZING THE GEAR SPECS. THE LIGHT WAS BACK ON IN SEPTEMBER, THEY CLAIMED YET AGAIN, NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT. I TOOK IT TOOK A SMALL TRANSMISSION SHOP, THEY READ MY CODES AND IMMEDIATELY FOUND A PROBLEM, CLAIMING IT WAS A TRANSMISSION ISSUE. A FEW DAYS LATER, THE LIGHT WAS BACK ON. EACH TIME THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, IT WOULD STALL AND IMMEDIATELY SLOW DOWN RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. EACH TIME FORD CLAIMED NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE LIGHT WOULD BE ON FOR TWO DAYS. EACH TIME I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO FORD, THEY WOULD KEEP IT 2-5 DAYS... I COULDN'T GET A RENTAL CAR HALF OF THE TIME BECAUSE THEY WOULDN'T ACTUALLY DO THEIR JOB UNTIL THE LAST DAY AND THEN TELL ME THAT NOTHING'S WRONG WITH MY CAR. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE ENGINE SENSOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. TOTAL LOSS OF THROTTLE, STALLING IN TRAFFIC, SHUDDERING AND ERRATIC SHIFTING WITH THE FORD POWERSHIFT TRANSMISSION. SINCE PURCHASING CAR NEW IN 2013, I HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE POWERSHIFT TRANSMISSION, INITIAL PROBLEMS WAS A NOISE THAT SOUNDED LIKE THE MUFFLER WAS DRAGGING THE ROAD, PROBLEMS GOT WORSE AS MILEAGE INCREASED. RETURNED THE CAR TO SEVERAL DEALERS FOR DIAGNOSIS, WAS TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED AND NO REPAIRS WERE ATTEMPTED. PROBLEM GOT WORSE AND I HAD EXPERIENCED TOTAL LOSS OF THROTTLE IN TRAFFIC ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, CAR STALLED AND JERKED IN TRAFFIC CAUSING NECK TO SNAP BACK. AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO GET THE PROBLEM FIXED WITH TWO DIFFERENT FORD DEALERS, A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION LETTER CAME FROM FORD DETAILING ISSUES WITH POWERSHIFT TRANSMISSION. I HAD TO TAKE MY CAR INTO THE DEALER AGAIN, FOR DIAGNOSIS AND WAS TOLD THEY GOT IT THE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL THE THRESHOLDS AFTER 6 ATTEMPTS, WHICH WARRANTED REPLACEMENT OF THE CLUTCH PACK AND INTERNAL SEALS, SUPPOSEDLY A FAULTY DESIGN THAT ALLOWED OIL FROM THE GEARBOX TO LEAK INTO THE CLUTCH PACK CAUSING SLIPPAGE, NOISE AND ISSUES. FORD RETURNED THE CAR 5 DAYS LATER, ISSUES WENT AWAY FOR 3 WEEKS OR SO, AND HAVE STARTED TO REAPPEAR IN THE SAME FASHION AS WHEN THE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW AND IS GETTING WORSE EACH DAY, WITH OVER 1000 MILES ON THE CAR SINCE SERVICE. I BOUGHT MY 2013 FOCUS SE PRE OWNED WITH 19500 MILES IN MARCH OF 2014. I FIRST NOTICED A PROBLEM WITH MY TRANSMISSION THE FIRST WEEK I BOUGHT MY '13 FORD FOCUS. I WOULD HEAR A SHUDDERING AND GEARS GRINDING WHEN I WOULD ACCELERATE AND MY TRANSMISSION WOULD SLIP WHEN SHIFTING GEARS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND ASKED THEM TO CHECK IT OUT BUT WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NORMAL AND NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT AND SENT ME ON MY WAY WITHOUT EVEN TAKING A LOOK UNDER THE HOOD. I INFORMED THEM I WAS WORRIED ABOUT GETTING INTO AN ACCIDENT WITH IT AND THEY SAID THAT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE AND IT WAS OF NO CONCERN. ON FRIDAY, APRIL 25TH, 2014, AFTER DRIVING 40 MINUTES TO WORK, I STARTED MY CAR UP AGAIN AND TURNED ONTO A MAIN CITY ROAD FROM A PARKING LOT THEN ONTO A RESIDENTIAL STREET. THERE, I NOTICED MY TRANSMISSION LIGHT HAD TURNED ON AND MY CAR WAS HAVING A DIFFICULT TIME SHIFTING GEARS. THE RPMS SKYROCKETED AND THEN PLUMMETED. I WAS GOING ABOUT 20MPH-25MPH AND MY DASH IS READING 4RPMS. I THEN TURN ONTO ANOTHER MAIN ROAD WHERE MY CAR STARTED CHUGGING ALONG, IT FELT, WHILE REVVING MULTIPLE TIMES. I HAD NO CONTROL OVER MY OWN VEHICLE. ABOUT A MILE OR TWO AWAY, I REACHED MY DESTINATION. I PARKED AND THEN STARTED TO DRIVE AGAIN WHERE MY CAR THEN STOPPED AND I HAD TO DECLARE IT INOPERABLE. THE NEXT DAY, I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED. COME TO FIND OUT, THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS I COMPLAINED ABOUT TO THE DEALER WERE NOT NORMAL AND ANY DAY MY CAR WAS GOING TO QUIT ON ME. APRIL 25TH, 2014 HAPPENED TO BE THAT DAY. MY CAR IS JUST OUTSIDE OF THE LEMON LAW AS I PURCHASED IT LAST JANUARY. FORD IS HESITANT ON HELPING ME AND GETTING MY CAR BACK AND RUNNING. IN AUGUST OF 2013 I BROUGHT MY 2013 FORD FOCUS INTO THE DEALERSHIP WITH TRANSMISSION ISSUES. I OWNED THE CAR FOR 6 MONTHS AT THAT POINT WITH 6,000 MILES ON IT. CAR WAS SHUDDERING AT LOWER GEARS, TRANSMISSION FELT LIKE IT WAS SLIPPING, AT TIMES RPM WOULD REV UP HIGHER THAN NORMAL, GRINDING NOISE COULD BE HEARD FROM THE ENGINE AT TIMES, LOSS OF POWER AND A COUPLE TIMES COMPLETE LOSS OF ACCELERATION WHILE TRYING TO TURN ACROSS TRAFFIC. I TOOK THE CAR INTO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND A COUPLE OF SOFTWARE UPDATES WERE APPLIED TO THE CAR. THIS FIXED IT FOR MAYBE 3 MONTHS THEN I STARTED NOTICING LOSS OF POWER IN THE CAR AGAIN, AND NOW RECENTLY ALL OF THE SAME ISSUES I ORIGINALLY HAD, AND LISTED ABOVE, HAVE RESURFACED. CURRENT MILES ARE 14,000. I CAN'T EVEN GO UP A HILL FASTER THAN 25 MILES AN HOUR, THE CAR FAILS TO CHANGE GEAR AND ENGINE RPMS REV AND THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING EVERYDAY. I WAS DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IN A COMPLETELY FLAT SECTION OF THE ROAD AND HAD BEEN APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES IN MY JOURNEY WHEN I NOTICED MY CAR STARTED SLIGHTLY SHUDDERING. WHEN SLOWING DOWN FOR A MERGING VEHICLE, MY VEHICLE WENT TO OVER 5000 RPM (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION BY THE WAY) AND MY SPEED DROPPED, DANGEROUSLY DROPPING MY SPEED IN A PASSING LANE TO 20 UNDER THE SPEED LIMIT. WHILE MAKING MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS ON THE GAS TO ACCELERATE THE SPEED, MY RPM'S KEPT GOING UP AND MY ACCELERATION KEPT DECLINING WITH CARS SWERVING UNTIL I COULD GET INTO THE RIGHTHAND LANE. I HAVE NEVER HAD AN ACCIDENT OR ANY DIFFICULTY WITH MY VEHICLE AS I PURCHASED IT NEW. FURTHER, I HAVE NOTICED THAT EVEN THOUGH I HAVE AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, WHEN STOPPED AT INTERSECTIONS OR LIGHTS, IF I LET UP OFF OF THE GAS AT ALL, MY CAR ROLLS BACKWARDS MUCH LIKE A MANUAL TRANSMISSION WOULD DO, WHICH NOW THAT I KNOW THE TRANSMISSION DOES THIS, I AM AWARE, HOWEVER ON UPHILL STOPS I FIND IT DIFFICULT TO NOT ROLL BACKWARDS IN SWITCHING BETWEEN THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATION IF A CAR IS CLOSELY BEHIND ME, STOPPED. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO A FORD DEALERSHIP FOR IT TO BE LOOKED AT, AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP (WHERE I DIDN'T BUY THE CAR) STATES THAT THE TRANSMISSION ISSUES ARE COMMON IN FORD FOCUSES OF THIS MODEL YEAR -- AND FORD IS AWARE/THE DEALERSHIP IS AWARE -- YET THEY "CAN'T FIND ANYTHING ACTUALLY WRONG BY GUIDELINES" FOR THE CAR. IN 2/13, MY HUSBAND AND I PURCHASED A '13 FORD FOCUS FROM BREWSTER FORD IN NY. UNFORTUNATELY, OUR CAR HAS NEVER WORKED CORRECTLY. IT RANDOMLY LOSES POWER. IT FEELS LIKE THE GAS PEDAL DOESN'T RESPOND SOMETIMES WHEN WE TRY TO ACCELERATE. OUR CAR IS CURRENTLY IN THEIR SERVICE CENTER FOR THE 4TH ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM WITHOUT ANY INTERVENTION. 3 OF THE MASTER MECHANICS, SCOTTY, CARLISLE, AND ANTHONY, SAY THEY HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR MULTIPLE TIMES WITHOUT REPAIRING ANYTHING BECAUSE THEY CLAIM THAT THEY CANNOT RECREATE THE PROBLEM. 5/28/13 THE HESITATION AND NONRESPONSIVE ACCELERATION INCREASED AND WE BROUGHT OUR CAR TO THE SERVICE CENTER AND PAID FOR AN OIL CHANGE. WE WERE GIVEN THE CAR BACK AND TOLD THERE WAS NO PROBLEM FOUND. 6/14/13 WE BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THERE WAS AN UPDATE FOR THE COMPUTER AND WE THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE FIXED. 12/9/13 WE CAME BACK TO THE SERVICE CENTER FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT THIS TIME THE CAR SHUT OFF WHILE MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING ON THE NYS THRUWAY AND THIS TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON WHEN I DROPPED IT OFF. AGAIN THE CAR WAS GIVEN BACK AND WE WERE TOLD NO PROBLEM FOUND. THEY SAID THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS NOT ON. IT HAD BEEN ON FOR TWO DAYS PRIOR. 12/18/13 WE BROUGHT OUR CAR BACK TO THE SERVICE CENTER. AFTER WE CALLED FORD CORPORATE FOR HELP, THE SERVICE MANAGER, DANIELLE GOT INVOLVED. THE GAS MILEAGE DROPPED AT THIS TIME FROM 32-27 MILES/GALLON COMBINED. OUR CAR WAS AT BREWSTER FORDS SERVICE CENTER FOR OVER 30 DAYS WITHOUT BEING CONTACTED ONCE. WHEN MY HUSBAND CALLED TO CHECK ON THE STATUS, HE WAS TOLD THEY WERE WAITING ON A SERVICE ENGINEER TO COME OUT. AFTER SPEAKING TO ANGELA, THE REGIONAL MANAGER FROM FORD, WE WERE TOLD THAT THE SERVICE CENTER IS UNABLE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM AND WE SHOULD AGAIN TAKE OUR UNSAFE CAR. 1/23/14 TODAY THE REGIONAL MANAGER AGREED TO APPROVE A SECOND OPINION.

I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2013 FORD FOCUS IN JANUARY 2013 AFTER HAVING PREVIOUSLY OWNED A 2011 FORD FOCUS THAT WAS HAVING TRANSMISSION ISSUES. THE DEALERSHIP HAD TOLD ME THAT THE 2013 FOCUS MODELS HAD A REDONE TRANSMISSION THAT WAS MORE EXPENSIVE AND DIDN'T HAVE THE "ISSUES" THAT PLAGUED THE 2011 FORD FOCUS. TURNS OUT IT IS THE SAME TRANSMISSION, EXCEPT WITH A COMPUTER UPDATE WHICH DOES NOT FIX THE ISSUE. WITHIN THE FIRST FEW WEEKS, MY CAR WAS 'SHUDDERING' FOR LACK OF A BETTER DESCRIPTION WHEN ACCELERATING; THE RPM'S GO UP SPORADICALLY TO, REVVING THE ENGINE HIGHER THAN IT NEEDS TO GO. IT FEELS ALMOST LIKE IT'S GOING TO DIE AND THEN WILL CATCH THE GEAR AND GO. I HAVE TAKEN MY CURRENT CAR IN FOR SERVICE ONCE FOR ANOTHER UPDATE, BUT MY 2011 WAS IN THE SHOP MULTIPLE TIMES TO FIX THIS ISSUE, AND ALWAYS CAME BACK TO ME DOING THE SAME 'SHUDDERING' AS IT DID BEFORE IT WENT IN. I CALLED FORD AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD TALK TO MY DEALER AND THEY WOULD TAKE CARE OF IT. WELL, BY TAKING CARE OF IT, THEY MEANT THAT THERE IS ANOTHER 'UPDATE'. I HAD IT UPDATED ON 8/26/13 AND I PICKED IT UP ONLY TO FIND THAT THE SHUDDERING IS WORSE. IT'S NOT SAFE TO TRY AND DRIVE A CAR THAT SHUDDERS AND LAGS WHEN YOU HAVE TO CROSS BUSY STREETS AND IN NORMAL DAILY TRAFFIC. I'M TIRED OF DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE ESPECIALLY BEING THAT I BOUGHT A NEW CAR. AND AN AMERICAN CAR AT THAT. FORD NEEDS TO HAVE SOME INTEGRITY AND FIX THIS BEFORE I DO WHAT I WANT TO DO AND GO BUY A HONDA OR NISSAN.

FOR A FEW MONTHS PRIOR I HAD NOTICED A SHUTTERING STUTTERING TYPE FEELING WHEN COASTING OR AT AT STOP, ALMOST LIKE THE CAR WAS GOING TO STALL. ON 9/13 I WAS IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC GOING UP A HILL INTO A DODGER GAME WHEN ALL THE SUDDEN A WARNING POPPED UP ON THE SCREEN INFORMING ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD OVERHEATED AND I NEEDED TO PULL OVER, STOP THE CAR AND WAIT FOR 8 MINUTES. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE THE CAR TO PULL OVER THE ENGINE WOULD REV BUT THE CAR DIDN'T MOVE, THEN IT STARTED DOING LARGE LURCHES FORWARD. IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET OUT OF THE TRAFFIC AND MOVE THE CAR TO SAFETY WITHOUT FURTHER ENDANGERING MYSELF, MY PASSENGERS, AND THE OTHER VEHICLES AROUND ME. THE SMELL WAS SO BAD I ACTUALLY GOT OUT OF THE CAR AT ONE POINT THINKING IT MIGHT EXPLODE. THIS WENT ON FOR ABOUT HALF AN HOUR AS I TRIED TO GET TO SAFETY. I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR REPAIRS THE NEXT MORNING AND IT WAS IN THE SHOP FOR A WEEK. I GOT IT BACK AND COULD TELL THERE WAS STILL SOMETHING WRONG BECAUSE THE SHAKING WAS NOW SO BAD I WOULD GET MOTION SICK ANYTIME THE CAR WAS AT A STOP. 5 DAYS AFTER PICKING IT UP I TOOK IT BACK TO THE SHOP. AGAIN, THEY HAD THE CAR FOR A WEEK. AFTER PICKING IT UP, THREE DAYS LATER I WAS AGAIN PULLING INTO DODGER STADIUM AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. TRANSMISSION OVER HEATED, LURCHING AS I TRY TO PULL OVER TO SAFETY AND A TERRIBLE SMELL COMING FROM THE CAR. APPROXIMATELY, 700 FT FROM THE LIMIT LINE, THE LIGHT CHANGED TO YELLOW AND WE SLOWED TO STOP. STOPPING WAS A LITTLE MORE FIRM THAN THE SLOW PACED REGENERATIVE CHARGING, A NOISE WAS FROM THE FRONT WAS HEARD, RESEMBLING THAT OF A LOOSE BRAKE PAD HITTING METAL AND THE VEHICLE THEM SOUNDED A WARNING AND FLASHED "STOP SAFELY NOW" VISUAL WARNING AS WE CAME TO A FULL STOP AT THE LIMIT LINE AT THE LIGHT. ALTHOUGH THERE WAS NO POWER TO THE MOTOR, THE SYSTEM WAS ACTIVE AND THE GREEN GO CAR WAS NOT VISIBLE. WE ATTEMPTED TO RESET THE VEHICLE BY POWERING OFF AND POWERING ON TO NO AVAIL. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND CARS BEGAN TO SOUND THEIR HORNS. I IMMEDIATELY ACTIVATED THE EMERGENCY FLASHERS AND STEPPED OUT THE VEHICLE TO DIRECT TRAFFIC AROUND THE STALLED VEHICLE (NOT RECOMMENDED UNLESS PROPERLY TRAINED). TRAFFIC ON SEVERAL INSTANCES CAME DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO COLLISION AS THIS SITUATION PRESENTED A HUGE RISK TO PERSONAL SAFETY. THE VEHICLE WAS WORKING FINE ONE MOMENT, AND THE NEXT I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE OVER 15 MPH. I MANAGED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH THE FLASHERS ON UNTIL I COULD SAFELY PULL INTO A PARKING LOT. I CALLED THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND HAD IT TOWED TO THEIR LOCATION. AFTER SOME HOURS, I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR CHECKED OUT FINE AND COULD NOT FIND WHAT THE ISSUE WAS. LATER, THE DEALERSHIP CALLED ME BACK AND SAID THAT THEY HAD FOUND A "TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN" REGARDING THIS VERY ISSUE. DEALERSHIP DID A CALIBRATION AND POST ROAD TEST OK AT THIS TIME. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 40 MPH. SUDDENLY AN ERROR MESSAGE POPPED UP "SERVICE ADVANCETRAC". THEN THE CAR WAS DISABLED. THE SPEED AUTOMATICALLY REDUCED. THE SPEED DID NOT RESPOND OR INCREASE AT ALL WHEN I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO SAFETY. THEN THE CAR STOPPED COMPLETELY. I TURNED OFF THE CAR, THEN TURNED IT ON AGAIN. THE ERROR MESSAGE "SERVICE ADVANCETRAC" POPPED UP AGAIN. THIS TIME, THE CAR AUTOMATICALLY ACCELERATED FROM 0 TO 30 MPH, THEN IT RAN CONSTANTLY AT 30 MPH. THIS TIME, THE SPEED DID NOT RESPOND AT ALL WHEN I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. IT WAS LIKE THE CAR WAS ON CRUISE CONTROL, WITHOUT YOU BEING ABLE TO TURN OFF CRUISE CONTROL! EXTREMELY DANGEROUS! I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE THE 1ST TIME. THEY REPLACED THE ACCELERATOR ASSEMBLY. ABOUT A WEEK LATER, THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE THE 2ND TIME. I EVEN TOOK A PICTURE OF THE ERROR MESSAGE ON THE DASHBOARD AND SHOWN IT TO THE SERVICE ADVISER. THEY COULDN'T REPRODUCE THE ISSUE, AND TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN RIGHT AFTER I DROVE OFF THE DEALERSHIP. THEN, I MANAGED TO DRIVE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH THE ERROR MESSAGE STILL ON AND WITH THE ISSUE OCCURRING. SERVICE WAS ABLE TO COLLECT SOME KIND OF CODE FROM THAT ERROR MESSAGE, BUT COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH MY CAR, AND TOLD ME THEY WILL CONTACT FORD DIRECTLY. IT HAS BEEN 3 DAYS AND I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RESPONSE AT ALL. THIS MORNING, I TURNED ON MY CAR AND DROVE FOR 2 MINUTES AND THE SAME ISSUE OCCURRED AGAIN! AS FOR PROOF, I WAS ABLE TO RECORD A 30 SECOND VIDEO CLIP WHILE THE CAR WAS RUNNING ON A CONSTANT SPEED OF 30 MPH WITHOUT ME STEPPING ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR ANYMORE BECAUSE THIS PROBLEM CAN OCCUR RANDOMLY ANYTIME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD! NOT SAFE FOR DRIVING! *TR

AS I PULLED OUT INTO THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC FROM A GAS STATION, I REALIZED MY CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE BEYOND 15-20 MPH. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO THE RIGHT HAND LANE AND PROCEEDED TO THE STOP LIGHT, WHICH WAS ABOUT A 100 YARDS DOWN THE ROAD. AT THE RED LIGHT I PLACED THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL AND DISCOVERED THE ENGINE WOULD NOT GO BEYOND 3500-4000 RPM'S. I THEN TURNED ON THE WARNING FLASHERS, AND WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND PROCEEDED AT 15-20 MPH UNTIL I COULD TURN INTO A SAFE AREA ABOUT 1 MILE DOWN. I THEN HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER. WHEN THE DEALER RAN MY VIN# THROUGH THEIR SYSTEM, IT SHOWED THAT A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN HAD BEEN ISSUED REGARDING THIS VERY PROBLEM. THEY THEN REPAIRED THE CAR AND IT NOW SEEMS TO BE RUNNING OK, ALTHOUGH I DON'T FEEL REAL GOOD ABOUT IT. HOPEFULLY SOMETHING LIKE THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN, ESPECIALLY IF I AM IN A SITUATION LIKE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT HIGH SPEEDS. MYSELF AND MY WIFE WERE KNOWINGLY PUT INTO A POTENTIALLY UNSAFE RISK BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY, WHICH I FEEL COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAD BEEN A LITTLE MORE PROACTIVE IN NOTIFYING THEIR CUSTOMERS OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SOMETHING LIKE THIS OCCURRING. *TR

DRIVING TO WORK TRAVELING AT 80 MPH MY FORD FOCUS 2013 HATCHBACK SE DECELERATES TO 60 MPH. I STEP ON THE GAS TO ACCELERATE, BUT THE RPM GOES FROM 3000 RPM TO 4500 RPM WITH NO INCREASE IN SPEED. THE CAR WAS ONLY GOING UP A SLIGHT INCLINE IN THE ROAD NO MORE THAN 10 DEGREES OF ELEVATION. I RELEASE THE GAS AND THEN TRY TO STEP ON THE BRAKE GENTLY. IF THERE WERE PROBLEMS ACCELERATING I WANTED TO BE SURE I WOULD BE ABLE TO STOP. THE BRAKES WORKED FINE, BUT WHEN I PROCEEDED TO ACCELERATE I COULD NOT GET THE CAR BEYOND 60 MPH. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ON, AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IT EVER HAPPENED. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW JAN 2, 2013.
