Unable to control vehicle in light rain conditions. Steering took me straight off the highway into a steel wire fence. Totalled the car with massive front end damage. Seat belt did not lock. Knocked window out with head during impact. The ONLY airbag to deploy was the knee airbag, shooting the hard plastic straight into my kneecap.

AsI drive down the road my car swerves back and forth hard to control the steering wheel. This has happened several times and gets worse every time. Very scary to drive down the road I took it to a mechanic he said that it was the rack and pinion part on the car. He also said that there was a recall on it in 2014, I have only had this car since 2018 so I don't know if it was fixed in the recall. This car is very dangerous to drive. The traction light came on and has not gone off since, also a message comes up that Hillside assist start not available . Would like to have this problem fixed if it a recall. I don't feel safe traveling in it.

POWER STEERING ASSIST, FAILURE: ENGINE FAILURE TO START: POWER BRAKE ASSIST, FAILURE: TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE, FAILURE: CLUTCH FAILURE AND SHIFT ROUGHNESS:. CAR UNUSEABLE FOR THREE YEARS WITHOUT BECAUSE OF PARTS INAVAILABILITY: This type even happened mutiple times because of the transmission control module failure. The first sign of problems was shuddring and rough shifting beginning with about 30,000 miles on the vehicle Multiple trips to the Ford Dealerships resulted in Unsatisfactory action by Ford Motor company to repair the problem The result was safety problems like stalling and losing power steering and brake assist in traffic. It displayed multiple system failure warnings when it failed, Steering asist, Brake assist, ABS, transmission position light was in park while driving. We tried to get repairs done but they just kicked it down the road till we fought with the car to get 160,000 miles out of it because there was no other choice and they denied there was a problem. It was completely unserviceable beginning on the shown date because the clutch control and transmission control module have been faulty, It has started a few times but will not shift properly and the clutch is faulty because of the control module being bad. We paid to have the control module replaced when it became available, but the vehicle is not servicable because the clutch and flywheel are damaged from the module being faulty. This should have been a safety recall as soon as the problem was discovered, but it was hidden and the owners of these vehicles have had to deal with it over the last 10 years. Any of these cars on the road are just as dangerous as this one It.is still at the shop 4 months after they tried to patch it awaiting the determination of whether a clutch recall will fix it or not. These owners of these cars are driving time bombs if they are not able to react to the problems listed in traffic.

I was heading out to work and the steering locked up and I had to manually turn the wheel but I needed a lot of strength to get it to turn. The vehicle went to a mechanic to be diagnosed, and I was told the steering rack and pinion had failed and needs replacing.

May 7th, my car a 2014 ford focus se lost all function of power steering. something else may have happened to the steering as well, because the steering wheel will not turn at all, not even one inch. I've driven cars without power steering and u can still drive them, its just hard to do so. the car was dinging while i was driving, when i looked down at the instrument panel "power steering warning service soon" that went away and this one replaced it "steering warning, service NOW!!!! after stopping the car and turning it off, the car could not be driven again. it had to towed from its spot. this malfunction is not in the recalls for my car. there was also a clicking noise in the front drivers side wheel area when i would turn a corner. luckily i was in a parking lot and no one was injured. thankfully there was a parking stall straight head because the power steering had locked up and i was unable to turn the wheel. had i been out on the open road, there could've been an extreme tragedy for my family and children and maybe others as well. i would like for y'all to include my car for the ball barring/steering recall, as well as all 2014 ford focuses. when the made and model are typed in to this website and immediate warning pops up saying to stop driving this vehicle due to the steering.

I was driving from Missouri to Michigan when my power steering failed. I was unable to operate my vehicle and 95 miles from my destination. My car was towed to Preferred Ford in Grand Haven, MI. The problem was diagnosed as a power steering module failure which is unable to be replaced in this model and requires replacement of the entire steering rack. My car gave no indications of any problems and is serviced regularly. My car also has less than 25,000 miles on it.

At 153,000 Miles my car began to slip gears in the third and 5th and the transmission and a week after that started happening I lost complete steering all steering went out the ball joint had sounded rough for a couple of days and then and just went out the car was stuck at the hospital then I was at luckily I wasn't on the main road when it happened I was in a parking lot otherwise that could have been very very bad however my car doesn't fit in your little spectrum of August 8th to whatever it was August 15th of 2014 for manufacturer date for the steering and obviously my car is over $150,000 for the powertrain either thing could cost a collision and the steering thing I could have been majorly hurt but the recall doesn't include my car

Transmission is overheated, burning smell, the car lost control, start zigzagging on the high way , and got into an accident, I was injured, and lost my job. The CarMax dealership, refused to take care of a car, or even take it back, because of the safety issues. Then, second time, the transmission slips on acceleration at starts and on highways. It feels like it's the transmission is in neutral. For the third time, the car was jerking and going forward and backward , that the transmission would slip badly, even totally disengage. I was getting on a very busy road and accelerated and suddenly the car decelerated; the car behind me almost rear ended me, honked his horn, but there was nothing I could do. As you can see, the problem been reproduced and confirmed by an independent service center as a non-safe to drive. But CarMax dealership ignoring the issues regardless.

I TOOK MY CAR INTO MY MECHANIC FOR A HORN PROBLEM AND WHILE THERE HE TOLD ME THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING. I HAD ISSUES WITH THE STEERING LOCKING UP BEFORE BUT THOUGHT IT WAS IS A STUCK GEAR OR SOMETHING TILL HE TOLD ME IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE EPAS. HE HAD MENTIONED IT COULD LOCK UP AND I NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT IT TO HIM BEFORE. IT'S LOCKED UP A FEW TIMES BUT THE MOST RECENT ONE WAS NOT EVEN A FEW MONTHS AGO. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST COLD AND IT HAD TO WARM UP A BIT AS IT WAS RATHER COLD OUT. LOOKING MORE INTO THIS THERE WAS A WHOLE LAWSUIT OUT OF CA FOR THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THE SAME YEAR AND MAKE OF CARS. THEY THREW IT OUT EVEN THOUGH FORD SAID THEY KNEW ABOUT THE PROBLEMS. THAT WAS BACK IN 2017 AND YET THE CARS STILL HAVE THIS ISSUE AND THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING TO FIX IT. FORD SHOULD HAVE TO FIX THIS BUT THEY WANT ME TO PAY OVER 2,000$ TO HAVE THIS FIXED. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. I DON'T EVEN LET KIDS IN MY CAR ANY MORE BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN. BESIDES THE CAR ITSELF I HAVE SPENT OVER $35,000 ON ADDITIONAL REPAIRS. I HAVE PAID FORD, MURRAY'S AUTO / ACIMA, ALL 4 U AUTO, FIRESTONE AND BEST TIRES FOR REPAIRS. I HAVE RESEARCHED THE RECALLS AND OTHER PEOPLE'S EXPERIENCES WITH THE CAR, MANY OF THE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCING WAY MORE TROUBLESOME ACTIVITY WITH THE CARS WITH THE RECALL THAN WHAT IS STATED IN THE MAIL LETTER. I WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST A SETTLEMENT REIMBURSEMENT OF A NEW CAR DUE MY UNSATISFIED EXPERIENCE WITH MY CAR. I WILL ATTACH ALL MY PAID AND ONGOING DEBT RECEIPTS FOR MY CAR'S MAINTENANCE. I THOUGHT THIS WAS UNFAIR BECAUSE I HAD NOT HAD ENGINE PROBLEMS BEFORE THE RECALL, AND RESEARCHING ONLINE MANY DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER AGREED THAT THE SPECIFIC RECALL WAS CAUSING ENGINE FAILURE, AND MY ADVISOR AGREED THAT THE RECALL FAULT PART AND ENGINE COULD HAVE NEGATIVELY AFFECTED ONE ANOTHER ALTHOUGH REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. I CALLED FORD CORPORATE AND EXPLAIN TO THEM WHAT HAPPENED THEY DEDUCTED OVER $6,000.00 FROM THE ENTIRE ENGINE PRICE. I WAS NOT SATISFIED WITH THE COST I HAD TO PAY BUT PAID THE COST BECAUSE I STILL HAD CLOSE TO 10,000.00 TO PAY MY BANK SECU FROM THE LEASE CAR LOAN. RECENLTLY WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE OF SYMPTOMS, MY FORD 2014 FORD FOCUS DISPLAYED STEERING ASSIST FAULT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START THE CAR AND LEAVE THE OFFICE. THE CAR LOST ALL POWER STEERING. I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, AND RESTARTED THE CAR. THE POWER STEERING WAS RESTORED AND I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME WITHOUT FURTHER ISSUE. THE CAR PERFOMED FINE FOR THE NEXT WEEK. THE FOLLOWING WEEK, THE CAR DISPLAYED THE SAME FAULT, BUT THIS TIME THE RESTART TRICK DID NOT WORK. I TRIED MANY OF THE SUPPOSED FIXES DISCUSSED ON THE INTERNET, BUT NONE OF THEM WORKED. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE SHOP AS I WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR. FURTHER INVESTIGATING ON THE INTERNET REVEALED NUMEROUS OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THIS SAME NATURE. I REACHED OUT TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND WAS HUNG UP ON EACH TIME. THEY PEOPLE AT THE CALL CENTER ARE LIKE ROBOTS REPEATING THE SAME LINE OVER AND OVER REGARDLESS OF MY QUESTION. THEN THEY HUNG UP ON ME. I WAS MADE AWARE OF A SERVICE BULLETIN THAT WAS FOR PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING ASSEMBLY, BUT APPARENTLY IT ONLY APPLIES TO A SMALL NUMBER OF VEHICLES. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE IS A JOKE, AND THEY REFUSE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR SELLING A FAULTY PRODUCT. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD VEHICLE. I HAVE BEEN QUOTED A REPAIR PRICE OF $2500 TO REPLACE THE RACK AND PINION SYSTEM, AS THE COMPONENT PARTS ARE UNAVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE.

FINALLY, AFTER WAITING A LITTLE LONGER I STARTED THE CAR AND IT SEEMED TO BE ABLE TO MOVE BUT WAS STILL VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER. AFTER CIRCLING THE PARKING LOT A FEW TIMES WE DECIDED TO TRY TO GET TO THE AIRPORT ON TIME. I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL FORD GARAGE WHO WAS VERY ACCOMMODATING BUT WERE UNABLE TO PAY FOR IT. I THEN CALLED THE FORD COMPANY PHONE AND THE PERSON TOLD ME THEY WOULD NOT PAY FOR IT AT ALL BUT THAT I SHOULD KEEP MY RECEIPT IN CASE THEY LATER WOULD PAY IF MANY WERE AFFECTED. I GOT THE CAR FIXED FOR $2,155. THAT WAS FOR: 1 HV6Z 3504 EP GEAR ASY - STEERING, AND ALSO FOR AN ALIGNMENT WHICH THEY SAID WAS NEEDED BECAUSE OF REPLACING WHAT THEY HAD IN THE STEERING. I HAD TRIED TO START THE CAR AT VARIOUS TIMES AND THE ERROR MESSAGE ALWAYS CAME UP AND IT ALWAYS STEERED HARD. I PURCHASED THIS FORD W 15000 MILES ON IT. IT NOW HAS 37000 MILES. I FEEL LIKE THE CAR IS A LEMON. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES REQUIRING ME TO GO FORD DEALERSHIP. FIRST THE GAS INFORMATION WAS INCORRECT. IT SAID I HAD 26 MILES TO DRIVE BUT RAN OUT OF GAS. THEN WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY THE CAR GOT STUCK IN BETWEEN GEARS. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE. THEN THE I TRIED TO BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPOT AND THE I COULD NOT PUT CAR INTO REVERSE. AS A RESULT CAR WAS FIXED UNDER WARRANTY AND RECALL. THE ITEMS FIXED WERE GAS TANK RECALL, ENGINE MOUNT, CLUTCH, TRANSMISSION, AND (RESERVOIR TANK THAT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY). I PICKED UP CAR AND NEXT DAY I DROVE TO WORK WITH THE SAME ISSUES. GEARS ARE NOT SHIFTING. TAKE BAKE TO DEALER AND FIXED TRANSMISSION MODULE. NOW THE POWER STEERING DOES NOT WORK. I TOOK IT TO FORD AND THEY CHARGED ME 160$ TO LOOK AT IT. IT WILL COST 1800$ TO FIX STEERING. THIS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE DEALER ALSO SAID THAT THE SUSPENSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED SOON. HE STATED THAT SUSPENSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACE AT 50000 MILES MY CAR ONLY HAS 37000 MILES. I HAVE NEVER REPLACED SUSPENSION IN ANY OTHER CAR. I DROVE FROM ALLENTOWN DOWN TO RED HILL ON ROUTE 29 AND IT WAS A LONG RIDE THERE. SECOND, BECAUSE THEY TOLD ME IT COST 2 GRAND WHICH I DIDN'T HAVE THEY WERE GOING TO HAVE ME PICK IT UP AND DRIVE IT AGAIN KNOWING HOW IT WAS NOT DRIVE-ABLE. LUCKILY MY PARENTS CAME THROUGH AND PAID IT. SEEING THE RECALLS I NEVER RECEIVED ANYTHING ABOUT MY POWER STEERING RACK. SHOULDN'T THIS BEEN COVERED UNDER A WARRANTY OR COVERED SINCE THERE WAS A RECALL? THEN THERES TIMES I GET INTO THE CAR TO GO AND THE STEERING COLUMN WILL LOCK TO WHERE YOU CANT EVEN TURN THE WHEEL. I LOOKED IT UP AND I SEE THERES BEEN PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING COLUMN PLUS IT LITES UP IN THE CAR STEERING WHEEL DEFAULT I CALLED THE FORD BUT THERE SAYING THERE IS NO RECALL ON ANY OF THE TWO THINGS IM TALKING ABOUT. ITS NOT SAFE WHAT IF THE WHEEL DECIDES TO LOCK WHILE I AM DRIVING OR THE CAR SHUTS OF BECAUSE IT READ 98 MILES BEFORE YOU NEED GAS BUT THATS NOT THE CASE. I MANAGED TO MAKE IT TO DINNER. CONCERNED, I WANTED TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR THAT EVENING (1/8/2019) A NEW MESSAGE POPPED UP. IT STATED; "STEERING LOSS STOP SAFELY". THE STEERING WHEEL WAS ESSENTIALLY LOCKED IN ITS POSITION AND HARD TO MOVE AROUND. I GOT IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD COST $1,931.35 TO FIX. THIS INCLUDES ABOUT $1,200 FOR THE STEERING GEAR (ELECTRICAL), ABOUT $605 FOR THE LABOR, AND ANOTHER $100 FOR A NEW ALIGNMENT. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? THIS IS A 2014 WITH ONLY 55K ON IT. THERE IS NO REASON THE MANUFACTURE SHOULDN'T BE COVERING THIS. THERE WAS ANOTHER CAR IN FOR THE SAME ISSUE AS MINE. LOOKING ONLINE, I HEARD THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE FORD FOCUS THAT IS SEEMS LIKE HASN'T HIT THAT "MAGICAL" NUMBER TO BE MADE A RECALL. THIS IS MY FIRST AND NOW LAST FORD I WILL EVER BUY.

TRANSMISSION GAVE OUT WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. HAD TOWED TO DEALERSHIP, WHO REPAIRED WITH THE SAME PARTS. THE VEHICLE REPAIR WAS COMPLETED AND BROKE DOWN WITH THE SAME ISSUE AFTER DRIVING 50 FT. UNTIL TODAY, THE TRANSMISSION IS UNPREDICTABLE AND UNSAFE, AND NOW THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WENT OUT, LUCKILY I JUST GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY AND BACK TO WORK WHEN THIS OCCURRED. I'VE SEEM NUMEROUS REPORTS ON BOTH OF THESE ISSUES, AND FORD WANTS $2500 TO REPAIR THE STEERING, AND SAYS THEY CANNOT CHECK THE TRANSMISSION UNTIL THEN. THEY ALSO INDICATED THAT THEY AREN'T SURE IF THE TRANSMISSION WOULD BE REPAIRED AGAIN, AND IT WOULD DEPEND ON HOW 'BAD' IT IS. THIS IS A COMPLETELY UNSAFE VEHICLE, WHICH I AM STILL PAYING FOR, AND IS UNUSABLE AT THIS TIME, UNLESS I DECIDE TO DRIVE IT IN UNSAFE CONDITIONS. ON 8/24/2018 I PULLED INTO A GAS STATION AND FILLED THE CAR UP. AS I WAS LEAVING I HEARD A GRINDING NOISE AS I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL. I HAD NEVER HEARD ANY NOISE FROM TURNING BEFORE. THERE WERE NO LIGHTS OR WARNING SO I CONTINUED HOME WHERE I WOULD LOOK AT IT. WHERE THE ROAD CURVED I COULD HEAR A GRINDING SOUND AS TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL. NO SOUND WAS HEARD WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT. WHEN I GOT TO MY BLOCK I MADE A RIGHT HAND TURN AND THE GRINDING NOISE WAS VERY PRONOUNCED. WHEN I TURNED LEFT ONTO MY STREET THE NOISE WAS JUST AS PRONOUNCED. WHEN IN MY DRIVEWAY I TURNED THE WHEEL WHILE PARKED AND THE GRINDING SOUND WAS AT THE SAME LEVEL. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL RIGHT AND LEFT AND THE GRINDING NOISE WAS THE SAME AS WHEN THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING. A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER I READ ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF IT BEING A STEERING ASSIST FAULT. I STARTED THE CAR AND CHECKED FOR WARNINGS AND LIGHTS AND THERE WERE NONE. I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL AND GOT THE SAME GRINDING NOISE. THE NEXT DAY I JACKED THE CAR UP TO VISUALLY INSPECT THE STEERING LINKAGE AND CV AXLE. NO PLAY IN THE CV, NOTHING VISIBLY BROKEN IN THE STEERING. I TRIED TURNING THE WHEEL WITH THE CAR ON THE JACK STANDS AND NOW THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT MOVE AT ALL. I REMOVED THE STANDS AND TRIED AGAIN TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL LEFT AND RIGHT, IT WOULD NOT TURN EITHER DIRECTION.

I AM HOPING THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING, OTHERWISE IT MIGHT NOT JUST BE REPAIR PROBLEM BUT A WRONGFUL DEATH SUIT AGAINST FORD. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHO RECOMMENDED THAT I HAVE IT TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, AS HE BELIEVED IT FELL UNDER THE SAME STEERING ISSUE THAT MANY OTHER FORD MODELS HAVE LATELY BEEN RECALLED FOR. THE DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED THAT THE STEERING GEAR WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED, AT FULL COST TO ME BECAUSE THE FOCUS DOES NOT FALL UNDER THESE RECALLS. FORD MUST ISSUE A RECALL FOR THE FOCUS MODELS IN ADDITION TO THOSE THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN RECALLED. I AM NOT THE ONLY FOCUS OWNER TO EXPERIENCE THIS TERRIFYING ISSUE, WHICH COULD HAVE EASILY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT HAD MY STEERING ASSIST GONE OUT IN A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT SITUATION. I ONCE AGAIN HAD TO TURN THE VEHICLE OF AND LET IT SIT FOR A MINUTE AND HAD TO RESTART IT. IT RAN OKAY FOR ANOTHER THREE DAYS. THE STEERING WHEEL ON MY 2014 FORD FOCUS SE CAME LOOSE ONE MORNING. NO INDICATION OF LOOSENESS IN THE WEEKS LEADING UP. THE STEERING WHEEL JUST BECAME VERY WOBBLY AND LOOSE. THE FORD DEALERSHIP STATED IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THE COMPREHENSIVE EXTENDED WARRANTY WOULDN'T COVER IT EITHER, THE ISSUE: A NUT THAT HOLDS THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE STEERING COLUMN CAME LOOSE. ACCORDING TO THE TECHNICIAN, THERE WAS NOT MUCH LOCTIGHT ON THE BOLT. $200 LATER I HAVE THE SAME NUT TIGHTENED BACK DOWN WITH NEWLY ADDED LOCTIGHT. FAST FORWARD AND ON 3/14/2018 FORD ANNOUNCED A RECALL AFFECTING 1.4 MILLION FORD FUSIONS THAT HAVE THIS VERY SAME ISSUE. YET I HAVE A FOCUS NOT A FUSION. THIS ISSUE IS NOT SECLUSIVE TO JUST THE FUSION LINE UP AND FORD NEEDS TO EXPAND THEIR RECALL TO PUT THE SAME FIX IN PLACE FOR ALL AFFECTED MODELS. WHEN I PARKED MY CAR IT WAS IN PERFECT WORKING CONDITION. WHEN I TURNED THE WHEEL BOTH WAYS THERE WAS A WEIRD NOISE (LIKE TIRE ON THE PAVEMENT BUT WORSE) AND A GRINDING/VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL. I DROVE THE CAR ANYWAYS THINK MAYBE IT JUST NEEDING TO BE DRIVEN AFTER JUST SITTING. WHILE ONLY A 100 YARDS DOWN THE ROAD (CITY STREET) THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP FOR A SECOND THEY UNLOCKED. HAD MY DAD LOOK AT MY CAR AND DRIVE IT TO MAKE SURE I WASN'T CRAZY AND HE COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING VISUALLY BUT SAID IT WASN'T RIGHT. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP THE NEXT MORNING. THE DEALERSHIP HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS WRONG WITH MY CAR. ALL THE TECHNICIAN AND EVEN THE MANAGER WAS STUMPED. NOT A GOOD SIGN. THEY HAD TO CONTACT THE HELP DESK FOR ASSISTANT. THEY FINALLY GOT AN ANSWER 4 DAYS LATER THAT THE STEERING RACKING PIN WAS BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY OF COURSE SO THE COST OF PART IS GOING TO BE ABOUT $1900 PLUS LABOR SO I LOOKING AT AROUND $2100. I WAS ABLE TO GET COST TO ONLY BE $560 AS A GOODWILL COST FROM THE DEALERSHIP.

2014 FORD FOCUS POWER STEERING ISSUE WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE THE POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN ON A BUSY ROADWAY IN A URBAN AREA. THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED IN THE TURNING POSITION AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND TURN THE IGNITION OFF. I TURNED THE IGNITION BACK ON AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE AND THE VEHICLE'S POWER STEERING FAILED ONCE MORE AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED A SECOND TIME. I ONCE AGAIN PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND REMOVED THE KEY. I WAITED SEVERAL SECONDS AND STARTED THE IGNITION, PLACED THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE AND THE VEHICLE ONCE AGAIN FAILED. I HAD THE CAR TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICING AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE THIS VEHICLE HAS AND IT WOULD TAKE SEVERAL WEEKS TO REPAIR DUE TO THE VOLUME OF REPAIRS THIS DEALERSHIP HAS AT THE MOMENT. I HAD THIS SAME VEHICLE REPAIRED SEVERAL MONTHS AGO FOR THE TRANSMISSION ISSUE THAT IS CURRENTLY UNDER RECALL. THE CAR PERFORMED FAIRLY WELL AFTER THE REPAIR. THE SAME HESITATION ISSUE BEGAN AGAIN A FEW WEEKS AGO AND NOW THIS ISSUE AROSE AS WELL. I ASKED THE DEALER IF THIS TOO WOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL / WARRANTY AND WAS TOLD THE TRANSMISSION WAS BUT THEY DID NOT KNOW IF THE POWER STEERING ISSUE WAS BUT WOULD GET ME AN ANSWER FROM FORD. I'VE READ ALL THE OTHER COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS VEHICLES ISSUES AND MY EXPERIENCE IS THE EXACT SAME. THERE'S NO DOUBT IN MY MIND THAT FORD IS WELL AWARE OF THIS ISSUE JUDGING ON HOW MANY FORMAL COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN ISSUED. I WILL BE LETTING GO OF THIS VEHICLE WHEN IT IS REPAIRED. IT BECAME HARD FOR HER TO STEER AND LUCKILY SHE DID NOT HAVE OR CAUSE AND ACCIDENT WITH THE SUDDEN CHANGE. SHE TRIED TO ASSESS WHAT WAS WRONG WHICH IS WHEN WE LEARNED THERE IS NO POWERSTEERING FLUID AS IT HAS AND ELETRIC STEERING ASSIST INSTEAD. IT DOESN'T WORK NOW AND SHORTLY AFTER THIS CODE FAULTED THE ENTIRE CAR SHUT DOWN. IT WON'T START AND IS USELESS--FORD REPLACED A PERFECTLY GOOD STEERING SYSTEM WITH CRAP. I HOPE NOBODY GETS HURT BE THIS DEFECTIVE SYSTEM.

I IMMEDIATELY ATTEMPTED TO CALL THE DEALERSHIP BY MY HOUSE AND WAS UNABLE TO REACH THEM. I RECEIVED A CALL FROM A FORD REGIONAL MANAGER OFFERING FOR ME TO PAY A PORTION OF THE COST. I DECLINED AND REQUESTED SPEAKING WITH THEIR SUPERVISOR BASED ON THIS BEING A PROBLEM FORD IS AWARE OF AND HAS YET TO RECONCILE. IT RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION UNTIL TODAY WHEN I ENTERED A ROUNDABOUT WHEN THE STEERING STARTED TO LOSE THE POWER FEATURE IF ONLY FOR A FEW MOMENTS. I CONSULTED A FORD DEALER AND SAW NO RECALLS ON THIS PROBLEM. I AM HAVING THE CAR CHECKED ON 3/14/16 FOR MY TRANSMISSION SHUDDER AND WILL ATTEMPT TO GET THIS LOOKED AT THEN. IT IS TROUBLING TO KNOW THAT THIS MAY HAPPEN AT HIGH SPEED. IN THE ROUNDABOUT I SEEMED TO HAVE A MANUAL STEERING FEATURE, BUT AS I STATED THE ROUNDABOUT SPEED WAS ABOUT 15 MPH.

OWNED CAR 6 MONTHS AND LOVE IT, ESPECIALLY THE HANDLING, UNTIL: AT ABOUT 8500 MILES, I STARTED THE CAR (ON A SUNDAY MORNING-WHY I DIDN'T CALL THE DEALERSHIP RIGHT AWAY) PUT IT IN GEAR, PULLED FORWARD IN MY DRIVEWAY AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN AT ALL. I BACKED UP AND PULLED FORWARD AGAIN, AND STILL ZERO STEERING WHEEL TURN WAS POSSIBLE. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, PULLED THE KEY OUT, PUT THE KEY IN AND STARTED IT AGAIN. SAME ACTIONS, SAME RESULT. I USED OUR PICKUP TRUCK FOR THE DAY INSTEAD. I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN WHEN I GOT HOME AND THE STEERING WORKED NORMALLY-I PULLED FORWARD AND BACK IN MY DRIVEWAY AND PARKED IT. THE NEXT MORNING, THE CAR STARTED JUST FINE BUT AGAIN THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN. I CALLED THE DEALER AND ARRANGED A FLAT BED RIDE LATER THAT DAY. WHEN THE FLAT BED DRIVER STARTED TO CAR TO DRIVE IT ONTO HIS RIG, HE REMARKED THAT THE CAR WAS ACTING JUST LIKE A PROBLEM THEY'RE HAVING IN THE 2015 F150, AND TWO-HANDEDLY YANKED MY STEERING WHEEL HARD TO THE LEFT, STILL WITH NO RESULT. THE WHEEL WOULD NOT MOVE, AND I WONDER WHAT ELSE HE BROKE IN HIS "BIGGER HAMMER" APPROACH. HE ADJUSTED THE POSITION OF HIS TRUCK TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE MY CAR ONTO IT WITHOUT ANY STEERING AVAILABLE. I REPORTED THE FLAT BED DRIVER'S ABUSE OF MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, WHERE THE CAR NOW SITS AWAITING SERVICE.

TEN DAYS LATER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED; THAT IS, I DROVE 200 MILES, STOPPED FOR GAS, LOST THE POWER STEERING, WENT TO A HOTEL, AND UPON STARTING THE ENGINE THE POWER STEERING HAD RETURNED. WITHOUT POWER STEERING, THE CAR WAS CONTROLLABLE BUT IT WAS NOT EASY AND A FRAIL PERSON WOULD HAVE DIFFICULTY.

THE 2014 FORD FOCUS SE. MY MOM AND I TRADED IN ANOTHER VEHICLE FOR THIS CAR. IT WAS WORKING FINE AT THE FIRST 3 MONTHS OF HAVING IT, BUT THEN AFTER THE SECOND MONTH, THE TRANSMISSION ON THIS CAR STARTED TO FAIL. IT WOULD START TO SHUTTER AND CAUSE YOU TO HAVE PROBLEMS ACCELERATING TRYING TO KEEP UP WITH THE CAR AHEAD OF ME AFTER EACH FULL STOP, OR DURING TRAFFIC HOURS ON A FREEWAY/HIGHWAY. THIS VEHICLE ALSO HAD A PROBLEM WHEN I WAS JUST BARELY GETTING ON THE FREEWAY I TRIED PUSHING THE GAS PEDDLES TO REACH 65MPH, BUT FOR SOME QUESTIONABLE REASON THE GEARS WERE HAVING TROUBLE SWITCHING AND AS I LOOK AT THE METER GAGE IT SHOWED 50MPH. I PUSH MORE ON THE GAS PEDDLE TO GET MORE SPEED AND IT WOULD NOT MOVE HIGHER THAN 55MPH. FOR SOME APPEARENT REASON IT STAYED STUCK AT 50-55MPH. I'M QUITE DISAPPOINTED ON THE DEALERS WHO SOLD US THE CAR WHICH THEY KNEW THE ISSUE OF THESE PARTICULAR VEHICLES, AND ALSO THE MANUFACTURERS WHO HAVE CAUSE CONCERN FOR WHO EVER HAD BOUGHT THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE. I WOULD APPRECIATE IF THEY WOULD JUST RECALL ANY FORD FOCUS OR ANY OTHER VEHICLES THAT HAVE SUCH MALFUNCTIONING. 2 WEEKS AGO THE CAR LOST POWER STEERING WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. THERE WAS NOT AN ACCIDENT AT THAT TIME. TODAY 5-31-15 WHILE TRAVELING THROUGH A SMALL CURVE ON A NEIGHBORHOOD STREET, THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER STEERING AGAIN AND CAUSED MY DAUGHTER TO STRIKE A BRICK MAIL BOX. LUCKILY, SHE IS OKAY. THE CAR HAS SUSTAINED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE AND WILL HAVE TO HAVE BODY WORK. WHEN THIS HAPPENED I STARTED TO LOOK TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS FOR THIS AND SAW THAT THE FORD FOCUS IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, HOWEVER IT IS INCLUDED IN A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT BECAUSE OF FORD'S FAILURE TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND HANDLE THE PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING. THE STEERING IS VERY DANGEROUS AND WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THE STEERING IS TOO SENSITIVE, IF I MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL JUST A SLIGHT AMOUNT IT OVER CORRECTS AND CONTINUES TO MOVES THE CAR. THE DRIVE MUST CONSTANTLY COURSE CORRECT OR I WILL VEER OFF THE ROAD RIGHT/LEFT OR HIT ANOTHER CAR IN EITHER LANE, THE PROBLEM IS MULTIPLIED SEVERAL TIMES OVER WHEN TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. SEARCHING THE INTERNET I SEE SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS FROM 2014 FOCUS OWNERS AND AM QUITE SHOCKED THIS ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN ESCALATED AND FIXED BY FORD, THE NEW ELECTRIC STEERING IS NOT WORKING AND A SAFETY HAZARD TO ANY DRIVER. I HAD THE CAR IN THE MATHEWS FORD COLLISION SHOP TO REPAIR A HIT TO THE FRONT END FROM A DEER, AND REPORTED THE STEERING ISSUE. THEY ACTED LIKE THEY HAD NO IDEA WHAT I WAS REPORTING AND RECOMMENDED A FRONT END ALIGNMENT. I TOLD THEM THEY NEEDED TO DRIVE THE CAR AND WOULD FEEL AND EXPERIENCE THE PROBLEM. I PICKED THE CAR UP LAST WEEK AND THEY SAID THE STEERING COMPUTER WAS RESET AND RE-CALIBRATED, AND THE FRONT END ALIGNMENT WAS DONE. AS SOON AS I LEFT AND WAS DRIVING IT WAS ACTUALLY WORSE THAN BEFORE AND WHEN I TRAVELED ON THE HIGHWAY 2 DAYS LATER IT WAS VERY PRONOUNCED WITH VERY LITTLE WIND THAT DAY. I WENT BACK TO MATHEWS TODAY AND HAD ONE OF THEIR ESTIMATORS DRIVE THE CAR WITH ME IN IT AND HE ABSOLUTELY AGREED AND SAID THE CAR DRIFTED LEFT AND RIGHT ON ITS OWN, LIKE THE OLD FASHIONED CARS THAT RUN AT AMUSEMENT PARKS.THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO CONTACT ME ONCE THEY TALK TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND THEN I STARTED RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET AND WAS SHOCKED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM, SO DECIDED TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT. THE STEERING IS VERY RESPONSIVE - THERE IS NO CENTER ON THE STEERING. YOU MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL 1/4" AND THE CAR WILL MOVE. IF YOU ARE CHANGING LANES YOU NEED TO BE VERY CAREFUL BECAUSE WHEN YOU TAKE YOUR EYES OFF THE ROAD TO CHECK YOUR SIDE MIRRORS BEFORE CHANGING THE CAR WILL OFTEN CROSS INTO ONE LANE OR THE OTHER. WHEN YOU PULL OUT TO PASS ON A 2 LANE ROAD YOU BETTER HAVE 2 HANDS ON THE WHEEL OR YOU WILL LOSE CONTROL - THE SAME GOES IF YOU NEED TO GET ON THE BRAKES HARD. THE CAR HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN AND IF YOU DON'T HAVE TWO HANDS ON THE WHEEL YOU ARE LIABLE TO END UP HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE OR GOING OFF THE ROAD. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO MY FORD DEALER AND THEY DROVE IT. THEY DIDN'T NOTICE ANYTHING, BUT WHEN YOU DRIVE 40 MILES ROUNDTRIP TO WORK EVERYDAY YOU NOTICE IT. THEY DID CHECK FOR RECALLS, ETC AND COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. THE LONGER THE TRIP THE WORSE IT IS. I NOTED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT "TRACKING" WELL ON HIGHWAYS AT THE RECOMMENDED CRUISING SPEED OF 65 MPH. THE VEHICLE APPEARS TO "DRIFT" FROM LEFT TO RIGHT WITHIN THE LANE IN WHICH WE ARE TRAVELING. THIS REQUIRES CONSTANT ATTENTION AND CONCENTRATION IN CONTROLLING THE POSITION OF THE STEERING WHEEL IN ORDER TO KEEP THE CAR GOING IN A STRAIGHT LINE. IT IS LESS NOTICEABLE AS THE HIGHWAY CURVES IN EITHER THE RIGHT OF LEFT DIRECTION. ONE GETS THE IMPRESSION THAT THERE IS FAR TOO MUCH "PLAY" IN THE STEERING WHEEL/COLUMN RELATIVE TO THE FRONT WHEEL DRIVE TRAIN MECHANISM. IN ADDITION, THE PROBLEM SEEMS EXAGGERATED DURING HIGHER WIND VELOCITIES. I ASKED MY WIFE TO DRIVE THE CAR AND SHE TOO NOTICED THE PROBLEM. I QUESTIONED THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP, AT THE TIME OF MY FIRST SCHEDULED SERVICE APPOINTMENT, AND ASKED IF THEY COULD DRIVE THE CAR AND "TIGHTEN" THE STEERING WHEEL TO REDUCE THE "PLAY" IN IT. HE TOLD ME THAT THE TEST DRIVE WAS PRETTY NORMAL, THAT THERE WAS NO WAY TO ADJUST THE STEERING MECHANISM AND THAT THE "SPORT" SET-UP FOR THIS PARTICULAR MODEL RESULTS IN THAT "FEEL" DURING DRIVING. AS AN EXPERIENCED DRIVER OF 56 YEARS WHO HAS OWNED NUMEROUS AUTOMOBILES, INCLUDING SOME RATHER HIGH END SPORT CARS, THIS EXPLANATION MADE ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE WHAT-SO-EVER. HE OFFERED ME THE OPPORTUNITY TO TEST DRIVE A DIFFERENT VEHICLE OF THE SAME MODEL TYPE, BUT I DECLINED AS I SAW NO POINT TO THE EXERCISE. I HAD SEEN AN INVESTIGATIVE REPORT ON THE ABC NATIONAL NEWS PRESENTED BY [XXX] RELATIVE TO REPORTED PROBLEMS BY OTHERS IN THIS REGARD. THERE WERE FOUR INCIDENTS ON MY BRAND NEW 2014 FORD FOCUS LEADING UP TO COMPLETE ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST STEERING FAILURE. I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW ON A SATURDAY EVENING. I DROVE IT EVERYDAY SINCE THEN. I DROVE IT ABOUT 100 MILES SATURDAY NIGHT, THEN ANOTHER 100 ON SUNDAY. MONDAY AFTERNOON I LEFT FOR WORK. MY DRIVE CONSISTS OF ABOUT TWO MILES FROM MY RESIDENCE TO THE EXPRESSWAY THEN 18 MILES HIGHWAY AND LESS THAN A MILE TO THE PARKING LOT OFF THE EXIT. AS I GOT OFF THE EXIT I GOT INTO THE LEFT TURNING LANE WHICH CROSSES TWO SETS OF RAILROAD TRACKS AND TAKES A LONG SWOOPING LEFT HAND TURN TO A LIGHT. THEN THE PARKING LOT IS ABOUT A HALF MILE UP ON THE RIGHT. ACCELERATING OVER THE TRACKS AND IN MID TURN THE STEERING ASSIST FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED IN THE INFORMATION BOX ON THE CLUSTER. I HAD NO POWER STEERING UP UNTIL I GOT IN THE PARKING LOT, TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, OPENED THE DOOR, WAITED A MINUTE, THEN STARTED THE CAR BACK AND IT RESET. THEN TWO DAYS LATER, WEDNESDAY, THE SAME SCENARIO REPEATED ITSELF AND ONCE AGAIN ON FRIDAY. THEN SATURDAY EVENING I DROVE THE CAR TO A RESTAURANT FOR DINNER ABOUT 25 MILES FROM THE HOUSE, MOSTLY HIGHWAY, WITH NO ISSUES. ONCE WE LEFT THE RESTAURANT AND GOT BACK INTO TOWN THE STEERING FAILED ACCELERATING AROUND A TURN FROM A STOP LIGHT ABOUT 10 MILES FROM THE RESTAURANT. ONCE WE ARRIVED AT THE ICE CREAM PARLOR AND THEN LEFT AGAIN, IT RESET. WE LEFT THE PARLOR AND ABOUT 10 MILES FROM THE PARLOR I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, WENT TO ACCELERATE FROM THE LIGHT, DID NOT TURN IN EITHER DIRECTION, DRIVE PATH WAS STRAIGHT, AND NOTICED THE WARNING LIGHT APPEAR AGAIN WITH NO POWER STEERING THE REST OF THE WAY HOME. PURCHASED A 2014 FORD FOCUS SE ON JANUARY 4, 2014 AND HAVE HAD PROBLEMS SINCE DRIVING IT OFF THE DEALERSHIP PARKING LOT. WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE STEERING WHEEL BOUNCES OR SWAYS BACK AND FORTH. THE FEEL IS SIMILAR TO WHEN IT IS WINDY AND THE CAR IS CAUGHT IN AN AIR GUST. WHEN DRIVING ANY DISTANCE OR A SPEED OVER 10 MPH, THE DRIVER MUST HOLD ONTO THE STEERING WHEEL TO KEEP THE CAR IN THE LANE OF TRAFFIC. THE STEERING WHEEL SWAYS ONE WAY AND ONCE YOU CORRECT IT IS NECESSARY TO CORRECT THE OPPOSITE WAY. THE CAR IS DRIVEN TO AND FROM WORK APPROXIMATELY 17 MILES ONE DAY DAILY. BY THE TIME I ARRIVE AT WORK OR HOME MY HANDS HURT FROM HOLDING THE STEERING WHEEL SO TIGHTLY. PRIOR TO THE THIRD VISIT TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR THE STEERING ISSUE, A NEW PROBLEM AROSE. AFTER BREAKING TO STOP THE CAR, I LIFTED MY FOOT OFF OF THE BREAK, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED FORWARD FAST ENOUGH TO SQUEAL THE TIRES. APPLIED THE BREAK AGAIN, STOPPED, REMOVED FOOT TO ACCELERATE AND CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN AGAIN. THIS IS BECOMING AN ONGOING ISSUE. AS OF APRIL 9, 2014 THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP FOUR TIMES, EACH TIME TO BE TOLD THERE NO PROBLEMS CAN BE FOUND WITH THE CAR. IT DRIVES THE SAME AS EVERY OTHER VEHICLE OF THE SAME MAKE PER THE DEALERSHIP. WHILE DRIVING ON SNOW COVERED ROADS THE WHEEL WELLS FOR THE CAR BECAME PACKED WITH SNOW AND ICE. THE CLEARANCE OF THE VEHICLE DID NOT ALLOW FOR BEING ABLE TO CLEAR THE BUILDUP. STEERING WAS VERY DIFFICULT AND THE SNOW AND ICE BUILD UP WAS RUBBING ON ALL THE TIRES.
