My vehicle is part of the 23S64/23V905 Ford recall. The car died in the middle of an intersection in 2024 and Ford finally agreed to replace the faulty parts with more faulty parts until there was a fix. Now there is a fix and Ford said they will not replace it because it's still running, but when/if the parts fail again, to bring it in and they'll fix it. So if the vehicle fails on the interstate or in the middle of an intersection again and I'm in a crash, then they'll fix it. But they will not fix it until they fail because "there are too many not running vehicles in front" of mine.

Bought a used 2018 Ford Focus From a dealer in October 2024. In February 2025 the car started shuttering when put inn reverse when I left work. I drove ten miles to Home and didn't drive the car util the next day. The next morning when I went to work the car would not do more than 25 miles per hour. I pulled over and called someone to come tow the car. The car would not go in reverse. Car was taken to Dealership Which told me I needed some kind of part for the transmission. the Part was replaced but then the dealership could not get the car to go forward or in reversed. The car kept throwing codes for the mechanic. I had the car towed back home. the Transmission light is on and cannot drive the car. The car has not been driven since the end of February due to unable to pay for more repairs.

I have had this car for 2 years, the transmission went on me in the middle of the night and I had to have it towed home and to a transmission SPECIALIST. I just got the car back 2 weeks ago after spending $2,000 to get it NH road legal. My transmission NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I’ve contacted Ford, my car should be on the recall list but it isn’t. I have the junk transmission that they never should have “engineered”. The car has done nothing but cost my money and I still owe on because the dealership ripped me off. The attached file is from recent work, I haven’t gotten the invoice from AAMCO of Concord NH.

Engine Oil Pump Stuck Canister Purge Valve Clutch Fracture My car has difficulty starting. I have had problems with my hill start assist and air bags. My car stalls when I press gas at a light. it makes a funny noise and jerks. My engine light will come on and stalls even more and then the transmission alert comes on my dash to tell me to pull over because it’s over heating. The takeoff is extra slow like a turtle and fluid leaking. I’ve had my car at the same dealership I purchased my car.

My battery died in my car. I replaced the battery with a brand new battery and then I noticed transmission issues that were not present 1 day prior. My check engine light came on as well as a “transmission fault warning” message. My car would not drive over 10 mph in drive. My car would shift into reverse, but would not drive at all. Car would not shift into S gear. Dealer told me it was the TCM. And that I just missed the TCM warrant by 3 days. They replaced the TCM and now they’re telling me there are deeper issues with the transmission.

Most recently, my transmission stopped working leaving my [XXX] daughter and I stranded at an airport, in congested traffic, right around a bend where traffic was exiting in Phoenix, Arizona. It was 111 degrees outside and we had to be towed by the airport contracted tow company to a little area where we could only stay for 20 minutes. They were originally going to tow us to the top of the parking garage, where the sun blazes down, but decided since I had my daughter with me that they would take us to a shaded area. I’m a [XXX], her father [XXX] and hasn’t been any help her entire life. I don’t have any family besides my sister which lives in California. I couldn’t afford a tow truck back to Kingman, AZ which is a which is a 3 1/2 hour drive. My car ended up starting and I was able to park in the parking garage so we got her flight moved back a couple of hours. Again, I was able to get the car started and it drove fine until it cut out about two hours from Phoenix in Wikieup Arizona where I stayed for 12 hours in my vehicle waiting for somebody to come and pick me up with a tow dolly. Now it’s at Anderson Ford in Kingman with an $8000 bill for a new transmission. This transmission issue is a known issue with many of the Ford focuses and I think that Ford needs to fix it and or give me a new vehicle because I’ve already had two new engines put in and I’m waiting on the third engine for the oil pump failure the first time the oil pump went out again. The first time the engine failed at 47,000 miles just outside of Wikiup Arizona, it was hot outside, I had two young girls with me and we were driving 65 mph up a hill in the car just lost power and we were stuck on the side of the road with no tow trucks even available for over 4 hours to come and help us. It was a mess. I included the repair invoices from both times the engine was replaced and then verbal communication between the dealership and I about the current transmission issue INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 55

I am experiencing symptoms of Safety Recall 23S64 on my 2018 Ford Focus — specifically, intermittent oil pressure warning lights. I took my car to a Ford dealer who initially stated the issue may be recall-related, but later refused to inspect the oil pump belt and tensioner unless I paid out of pocket, despite the recall bulletin (MT23S64A) stating Ford will reimburse 2.8 hours of labor for the inspection even if no failure is found. I contacted Ford Customer Relationship Center and they were unable to locate the labor code or confirm the policy, and gave me the same incorrect info. This appears to be a violation of federal recall policy, where the dealership and manufacturer are both refusing to honor a safety recall without charging me for the diagnosis.

My 2018 Ford Focus started to buck, hesitate, and felt like it was going to stall. I pulled out of an intersection and my car just wouldn't go. I almost got hit. Then my engine light came on. Took it to my mechanic and he checked it with the coding machine which showed that it was in the transmission. I looked on the recall page and although my vehicle wasn't on it, they did recall other Ford Focus vehicles for the exact same problem. Ford knows there is a problem with this. It is very upsetting that my vehicle isn't part of the recall.

The Transmission is shuttering badly when taking off from stop . Like the transmission is slipping .

Feb 14, 2025

Whenever the car is just being driven normally it has begun having issues shifting gears esspecially in the lower gears. The check engine light has gone one in the vehicle several times all producing the same error code of P07A3 "Transmission friction element 'A' stuck on". All who have serviced the vehicle have expressed that this is a well known and common issue with the newer models of Focus with active recalls in the past for the years 2012-2016 due to the exact issue that my transmission is portraying now. The vehicle will stutter when it exceeds speeds between 7mph to 14mph. In extreme cases the vehicle will stall out with a set RPM of 1×1000. When a stall out occurs the vehicle becomes unwieldy as it'll start to shake violently prompting the immediate response of pulling off to the side of the road to prevent any potential damage to the vehicle itself as well as other vehicles on the road. From the countless mechanics I've consulted about this issue they have all brought forth the notion that this problem isn't fixable and the only solution is replacing the entire transmission unit as a whole as this is again an extremely common fault with the new Ford Focus models.

Additional information to existing case # 11636712. The 3rd Evap canister valve repair on 1/15/2025 from Cook Ford Case# from Ford Michigan regarding Evap Canister Valve Recall Also, a 3rd pending code on the Transmission Control Module on my 2018 Ford Focus listed on the Cook Ford repair invoice

Jan 23, 2025

My car is having a hard time shifting in lower gears, RPM's race, but car does not move forward. This is the 2nd time in 6 months we've had this issue. We've already had both clutches replaced the last time this issue happened. Car is at approximately 67,000 miles.

Jan 18, 2025

My vehicle has had 3 Evap Canister Valve Recall repairs since 2021, I purchased my 2018 Ford Focus Titanium brand new in January 2019. I have all receipts. I recently had the 3rd Evap canister valve repair January 15,2025. My vehicle had pending codes P144A and P1450 which would have prevented it from passing Texas Emmissions. My Vehicle has also had a Transmission Control Module Recall repair -TCM twice, once in 2022 and 2023. My car has had intermitten stalling in the middle of a intersection due to this recall putting me at risk for an accident. My vehicle currently has a pending code P2867 which is the TCM code. I have AAA tow truck history of my vehicle being towed to Classic Ford for these repeat repairs. I have taken my car to Classic Ford several times in Galveston, TX in which they have not successfully repaired these recalls. Which has turned into repeat repairs. Invoices to prove it. Cook Ford in Texas City recently repaired the 3rd Evap Canister Valve on January 15, 2025 in which they also found the faulty code for the Transmission Control Module. This is a serious concern.

Dec 30, 2024

My 2018 Ford focus started having transmission issues over 2 years ago. I took my car into a Ford dealership who reassured me that my car was fine and that my transmission was in fact not slipping. I continued to drive my vehicle while feeling the transmission slipping telling myself Ford told me this is normal it's fine. Cut to 2 years later. It is not fine. My entire transmission needs replaced. My TCM was not working properly which in turn ruined my reverse gear and caused internal damage to the transmission, resulting in a recommended replacement of the transmission. My car is only 5 years old with about 45,000 mi on it. I drive about half as much as the average American driver per year. My car had a hard acceleration so it was hard to enter traffic from a stop. Many times I was making a turn into traffic and felt like I might get hit by another car because I couldn't get into traffic fast enough. The jerking and slipping of the transmission caused constant fear of the car not performing as it should so to ensure everyone's safety, I would only make turns or go when there was absolutely no traffic. It also caused fear when my car wouldn't accelerate so I use more pressure on the gas pedal and then suddenly my car would lurch forward faster than expected. My check engine light did light up a few weeks prior to my transmission going out but the code was for the fuel pump purge valve. Again, the issue started in April of 2022 and the Ford dealership told me there was nothing wrong with the transmission even though there was. My transmission is experiencing many of the same things others experienced which is why this transmission was recalled. Unfortunately my particular VIN number was not.

The clutch failed, and is available for inspection. The dealer confirmed clutch needs replacing. No warning lights which is why I scanned for any codes. Other than the dealer no other inspections. I was driving normally along on the highway in stop and go traffic. A/C was on and normal breaking and traveling 15-25MPH. As traffic broke started to accelerate at a normal pace. Then the vehicle started to violently shake, got really loud like my exhaust had fallen off. I had to put the hazard lights on. Then put the vehicle in neutral as traffic was passing me on both sides. From neutral went back to drive and it make a loud noise but seemed power was back. I had to keep rpm’s under 2000 and get off the highway and drove slowly home. Applying any higher acceleration resulting in shaking and noises. I did stop to see if any fluids or objects hanging once safely off the highway but nothing was there. I scanned the vehicle in the following days and had zero codes, attached. Then made appointment for the dealership. They are saying no recall while my scanner says possibly. I called Ford direct and they point me to here as my vin apparently doesn’t meet the criteria.

Upon purchase of the vehicle in 2018 it has been taken into Ford dealer for multiple issues over the years up until current related to transmission (cvt) and TCM. It has excessive shudder upon acceleration, feels as it will stall suddenly, hesitant upon acceleration, shifting roughly and not shifting at all at times, with and also without a check engine light on. Multiple codes have been read but the TCM has needed a reset every time it’s been taken in. There has been a recall/extended warranty on other Focus and Fiesta years due to same issue with TCM, which often times is misdiagnosed due to faulty codes. This has been an ongoing and consistent problem since I’ve owned the vehicle.

I have had several Ford Focuses and I’m not sure why I keep buying them. The transmission shudders or slips. Makes awful noises like grinding or something hitting the fan blade. I currently have 7 codes stored in the car but no check engine light. My garage thinks maybe it needs a new ABS control module. The display screen goes black all the time and doesn’t come back on. Ford is aware of these issues in the 2018 models and continues to do nothing. I’ve been a loyal Ford buyer for years and I’m never buying “American made” again. They cut corners and produce trash vehicles that the consumer has to pay out of pocket for repairs. Current codes are P219A and C. U0121, U0140, U0256, U0452 and U2101. The car always makes a strange beeping noise. It sounds like a warning chime but no lights come on or anything. The car has AWFUL fuel mileage currently. I live 15 mins from work with only 1 traffic light and it used half a tank for 4 days of just traveling 30 mins a day. You pay a decent amount for these cars and can’t rely on them. SHAMEFUL! The transmission issues have been happening since I bought the car in 2022. The codes, beeping and fuel mileage have been a recent issue within the last few months. It shakes. The vehicle is a safety concern not only for myself driving it, but others on the road.

On [XXX], I was driving to the Grocery store and didn't even drive 1/2 mile when I got a message on my dash that my transmission was over heating, while sitting at a traffic light. 28,000 miles on my Focus. I pulled into the parking lot that was there and shut the car off. I called AAA to have my car towed to MasterCare Automotive. Then I had to tow the car to Sunrise Ford 5435 US-1. Ste 1. Fort Pierce, FL 34982. Directions · (772) 461-6000. because they have the equipment to run the diagnostic on my vehicle. I received a call that they have to put a $1,300 sensor in my vehicle in order for them to do a diagnostic test. I called Ford to see if they had any help with the vehicle as I was never told that my warranty ran out in Jan 2024 nor did they offer me an extended warranty on the vehicle (which I would of purchased if I knew that my warranty expired. I was also told that more then likely would need a new transmission at over $5,000. A car that only had 28.000 miles on it shouldn't need a new transmission on it as I drive the speed limit and do not abuse my vehicle. The car that I was driving wasn't safe, if it had transmission problems, never warned about the transmission going right after the warranty ran out on the vehicle. I didn't even make it to the first transmission fluid change. Other then I receiving the message on my dashboard, I did not have any issues with the vehicle, no problems shifting the vehicle and no indications that the transmission was going to go out or I would of had my car in the shop to get my car repaired. Now I am left without a vehicle, no bus service and cannot afford to take a taxi or uber because I am disabled and don't make enough on Social Security to be able to afford these luxury of calling a cab or uber. I take car of my vehicle and have my mechanic go over my car twice a year when I have my oil changed. My records for my vehicle are at MasterCare in Port St Lucie. Confirmation from Ford dealership that 2018 Ford Focus has worn out clutch replaced at 57,547 miles. Clutch issue was causing delays in shifting, and consistent shuddering when accelerating from an idle position. Repair covered under 5-year 60,000-mile powertrain warranty. There is a recall on this same issue on the 2012-2016 models. At 68,488 miles (approximately 11 months from former repair) the vehicle is beginning to shudder once again when accelerating from an idle position. This issue causes safety concerns as vehicle does not properly accelerate from idle position when accessing new roadways and oncoming traffic. Ford service explained that powertrain parts are covered under 2-year 24,000-mile warranty, unless that repair was completed under the powertrain warranty. Next step in the process, is to retrieve a diagnostic to confirm the issue and submit to claim to Ford to ask if Ford will cover the repair under 2-year 24,000-mile warranty.

The automatic transmission shudders starting from a stop. Not so much when cold but when it warms up it can be very bad. It was a recall for my year and previous years but not my vehicle. It is also a known issue by Ford Motors for Ford Focuses. It actually would not go up a hill one day from a stop. I had to back down the hill to a flat area. Wish you guys and Ford would do something about it. It's a very well known issue that was never truly fixed.

My 2018 Ford Focus has not been running correctly since about 30000 miles. As I accelerate, the car has trouble shifting into the next gear and will make a rattle noise that sounds like an object hitting against a fan blade. This makes it difficult to speed up on the freeway or accelerate correctly when I get a green light. I take it into the dealership regularly for an oil change and tune up but when I mentioned the issue they have told me they don't hear it and nothing is wrong.

My daughter slammed on the brakes and tried agian the car got alomost out of the parking spot and it did it again shifting gears with no warning. This happened three times. She checked to make all the doors were closed. No others cars were anywhere near her. She finally got the car home and we took it to the local Ford dealer and they said they never heard of this problem. This seems to be documented with Ford Focus autos. The car has 38,000 miles and is out of warranty by 2 months. This seems to be a safety issue Ford should correct. The car is not safe for the road.

Last week the service engine light appeared. I was due to get an oil change, so I had it done that day. The light remained on, so I took it to a local auto shop and they did a code reader. The code was P0783, drive train. I googled my car and the error code and a huge list on recalls appeared related to the same make and model of my car, but different vin number. If this is true, why isn't my car a part of this? I'm going to call the Ford company and see if they can help me. When I'm driving she chokes and chugs and lurches above 40mph and goes into a high rev then back down within seconds. She also stutters at a stop and just doesn't drive smooth like she used to.

Hi I have a 2018 Ford Focus SE with less that 64,000 miles that had the same Powershift Transmission problem as the older recalled ones. It is certainly a safety issue since it involves a loss of power and not switching gears correctly. I called the Ford Customer Service Center and they appeared to agree with me that this type of failure shouldn’t happen so quickly but after a week of waiting for a response after a follow up call they told me via email that they would do nothing and there were no current programs to help out. I see that there is currently is a class action suit involving this very issue and many forums with complaints so there must be many more people out there with the same issue. The car has less than 64,000 miles and had a clutch failure with the Powershift Transmission, still an ongoing issue that it appears Ford doesn’t care about. Our dealer is aware of issues involving these transmissions and they too were unable to get any help from Ford. It appears Ford would rather wait to there are more deaths, lawsuits and/or Government action before doing anything. We have had it repaired and it cost almost $2,000 even after the dealer helped a bit. I’ve attached the bill.

Pulled over and had it towed to a service shop, they are telling me the "Oil Pump Drive Belt" broke and now the entire engine needs replaced. Car started making a noise and jerking, couldn't go above 12 mph and wouldn't go in reverse. Check engine light came on. This is same fault we had with our previous Ford focus which was supposed to be corrected in 2018 models but clearly isn't. Dealership said it is tcm and back order for part could be months, told us they don't do loaner cars but the repair is free. The repair isn't free because this is our only car and my disabled husband needs transport to weekly hospital appointments so it is costing 30 dollars a day for a rental we shouldn't have to pay for. Ford TCM is clearly a huge issue no matter what year you buy.

Slave cylinder on 2018 limited edition focus rs, i was driving home and pedal instantly fell to the floor! In the middle of the highway right before my exit and I had to do some rather scary driving when the car wouldn't change gears & stalled. I had to get the car to emergency lane/shoulder to pull over! No previous signs/warning lights or vehicle drive ability leading up to complete catastrophic failure of said slave cylinder. It's currently at the dealership where I had it towed with the clutch still on the floor &. Although the clutch was still on the floor the dealership took 2 DAYS TO "DIAGNOSE" the issue with the vehicle when its obviously a hydraulic issue with either the master cylinder or slave cylinder smdh thats an issue in of its self but i digress. The dealership did confirm that it is indeed a complete failure of slave cylinder. I've read that this is a known issue with ford focus vehicles that ford is well aware of yet they haven't recalled this part let alone acknowledge said issue when brought in for replacement. This is the 2nd time I have an issue with the slave cylinder which I had replaced 26,000 miles ago my vehicle currently has 126,699 but I replaced slave cylinder @ 104,568 miles so new slave cylinder doesn't even have 30,000 miles on it.

My 2018 Ford focus has an issue with the clutch in the automatic transmission. At ~84k miles the vehicle lost the ability to shift into reverse gear. Upon reading about the issues with dual clutch transmission, swapped the actuator motors and some gears were restored but quickly lost all gears. Took to local transmission shop where they explained this is common issue with vehicle model. My options were to rebuild the transmission or replace the transmission, in either case costs would be approximately 50% of the vehicle's fair market value. Given other year model issues with the powertrain, this needs to be addressed by Ford and extend the same options given to purchasers of earlier year models. I was told the 2018 models had this issue "fixed", which led me to purchase the vehicle. Otherwise, great car but this is a design issue that there is no fix for.

I was driving on the thruway when my car came on with a warning that I have never received before. Stating that my transmission was overheating and that I need to stop for five mins to let the transmission cool down. As soon as that light came on the car stopped moving and I could not get off the road. There was no indicator before that the transmission was even having issues of any kind. I could have died that day because of the car. I have only owned the car two years and this is the problems that this car has.

6 times (to date) - the car has needed repair for transmission issues and has been undriveable. The car's messaging system has displayed appropriate warnings, but the transmission issue has taken the car out of service all 6 times, at one time when parts were not available, for about a month. The Detroit Free Press has extensively reported on Ford's fraudulent conduct --- they knew about the transmission problems, but continued to sell the car without any disclosures.

Initially the check engine light came on; took it to service center and the fuel sensor was replaced. Check engine light comes on the next day which revealed an evap code error. Suggestion was take it to dealer for recall check. Safety became an issue when the vehicle sputtered and stalled on the highway. I visually inspected the fuel tank which appeared "sunken" which suggested a vacuum pressure problem which the dealer also confirmed. All this is part of a recall which "should" include my VIN, make, model and year.

My 2018 Ford Focus has a recall, it has been in the service center since November for non-repairable issues. Ford Motor company has lacked transparency and disclosures by lying about the recalls and defects as more than one the Ford certified dealership confirmed my emissions warranty and recall on parts but the manufacture continues to deny any sort of warranty and recall which is “VIN” specific but my engine and transmission falls under the classification of the recall “1.0L Fox GTDI engine and a 6-speed manual transmission.” Recall is for 2016-2018 and mine is a 2018. The condition and symptoms of just under 49k miles has these ongoing, Non-repairable issues as it’s since had its Clutch motor replaced, Transmission Control Module that was on a National back order because thousands of other vehicles identical to mine have the same issues but some do and some have “no recalls on their VINs” but after even this part was replaced, my vehicle still being in the service center, just like other past and pending lawsuits have stated - one part is replaced and the other malfunctions because now, after 5 months and four clear diagnostics - after the TCM was replaced, my vehicles Clutch Levers have malfunctioned all while still not operating the vehicle. The battery was also completely dead after being tested and fully replaced less than 3k miles ago. These Clutch Levers part is apparently not covered under any warranties and the manufacturer is not willing to pay for out of pocket expenses nor am I in the position to continue to invest in repairing, diagnosis, insurances, transportation, etc., but I don’t want to sell a vehicle that’s not safe to drive. I’d like some sort of an arbitration or buy-back option with the manufacturer but they’ve declined accountability because they’ve stated my VIN has no recall, and they’re administered from this department. I’ve filed several ongoing claims and I really hope this could be investigated internally as time is of the essence!

The purge valve canister caused my car to stall in traffic and it would not start for up to 20 minutes the recall number is 18s32 but my car specifically does not have this recall, the service engine light is on it turned on right before the car stalled, this is a safety issue because it could lead to a crash due to stalling. The transmission is slipping when it is cold outside and it will not shift until 7,000RPM there is no recall on this but my vehicle has 74xxx miles and should not be having this issue, there is no warning light about the transmission. My son was driving home from Boston on 12/18/22, where he attends college. About 30 minutes into his drive home to NJ his car slowed down tremendously, and his RPMs were shooting up and down like crazy. He has about 69k miles on his vehicle. We get it towed to a Ford dealership in Medford, MA. The next day I drive from NJ to the dealership where they tell us that they have seen this problem a lot lately with 2018 Focus' and it could possibly be the TCM, which has a recall on it. Well unfortunately his VIN does not fall under the recall. Personally, if there is a recall on this powertrain issue for certain VINs, it should be on all of them. Who can afford 4200.00 nowadays to pay for their vehicle to get repaired???? Especially a college student. We got him this car brand new in 2018. Well come to find out after they diagnosed it, it is the TCM. Code that the computer found is P07 ALPHA5.

Purchased a Ford Focus 2018 (42,000k miles) in August 2019 from Drive Time Stone Mountain as a graduation gift for my daughter. In December 2019, while driving she notices her ECO went out and it no longer turned off when the car stopped, 2 weeks later the car stops in the middle of the street. We take it to a dealership in Statesboro, GA where she attends college and they inform us that the motor needs to be replaced. The motor is replaced and the ECO comes back on but goes off again in abt 3 mos. not even a yr later same thing happens same diagnostic of motor went out. The same FORD dealership installs a new one. Sept 2022, she is driving car stops a good Samaritan who happens to be a mechanic told her its the motor and power train and it will cost $7000 to replace because we are 60 days past warranty. Needless to say the car is still there. I have since purchased her a Kia with a lifetime engine. However, I need for this FOCUS to be fixed as a good will courtesy so I can sell it or trade it in. Paying $550 a month for a note and insurance for a non working car SUCKS! By the way, the car has 61,000k miles on it when it went out this last time. The sad part is that there are hundreds of FORD FOCUS owners with the same issue! Why not put a recall on this hunk of junk??!!!!

This VIN needs to be updated clearly because I was experiencing transmission issues that were extremely unsafe causing the vehicle to jerk left and ride on the road as well as not go into reverse - I almost got killed by upcoming traffic!!!! Ford as well as the dealership took no accountability but stated there was a recall with the clutch system and it needed to be replaced as well as codes that needed to be reset. My vehicles year, make, and model indeed have similar recalls so my VIN should be under that classification as well because it left the repair shop with $1,000 worth of repairs and it arrived to me unable to start! There’s still internal issues and unfixable transmission issues like many of the pending lawsuits have stated.

Transmission / Clutch Slippage. Apparently a well known issue for the 2018 Ford Focus. I am now looking at my 3rd replacement for the clutch as it continues to fail, most recently within 10k miles from the last replacement. Vehicle has less than 85k. Simple daily driving and the vehicle transmission starts to slip gears when leaving a stop, from 1st to 2nd gear. This is not good when crossing larger interceptions or going up hills. The longer I drive the vehicle, the worse it gets. Ford is well aware of this issue with the 2018 and earlier models, as are the Ford dealerships and Focus owners.

I own a 2018 Ford Focus and am experiencing the same symptoms as other 2018 Focuses involved in NHTSA Campaign #18V845000, however my VIN was not part of the batch that was recalled. The car stutters/shudders when accelerating at low speeds/take off. It switches gears hard, often with a jerk or a clunk. It also switches gears inconsistently, ramping the RPMs at times. We visited the Ford dealership on 3 separate occasions to address this issue to no avail. The third time was 7 months after I purchased the vehicle - 1 month too late to qualify as a lemon under my state's lemon laws. I believe this recall needs to be expanded to include other 2018 Ford Focuses sooner rather than later.

Occasionally, car lurches forward at stop signs without pressing the gas pedal, and other times, the car doesn't initially respond to gas pedal at a stop, stalling for 1-2 seconds and then lurching forward unexpectedly. Vehicle also trembles and shakes when upshifting from gears 1-2, and 2-3.

Automatic transmission shudders going into 2nd gear, and can be felt through the steering wheel.

My 2018 Ford Focus has less than 35K miles on it. It has sat at a dealership since December 2021 waiting on a TCM while I am stuck with car payments and zero help from Ford. Ford has stranded over 50k customers and has no ETA on this part. Their dealerships are advising customers the vehicles are safe despite the fact that they shudder, lurch while braked, and decelerate for no reason. This is a known issue that Ford already lost a lawsuit for ok earlier models and now they’ve been sued for the 2017/2018 models. NHTSA needs to investigate this. These cars are not safe and should not be on the road.

Vehicle stopped working June 21. Car refused to start up. Had it jumped, battery was completely drained. Discovered had no reverse, drive works up to 10-15mph. Drove it short distance to a Ford dealer service center. Discovered they said it's a powertrain issue and they're 3 weeks behind as they have no available mechanic to look at it. Called another dealer and was told the same thing. Had it towed home. Took it to a highly recommended mechanic and they said the powertrain is shot and needs replacing. Discovered it's a well known documented issue as of 2020. I have extended warranty on it but it may be denied because A) one ford dealer who did some work on the car within first few months of purchase "lost" my service records as they claim its not in their system. B) possibly denied because it's a known defect and they'd lose money to replace it. There's no recall on this defect. I wonder why!? This is a well known issue and seriously affects the value of my vehicle if I want to trade it in or sell it since it's all over the place and all mechanics know to "RUN" away from this car. No engine light on until arriving at dealer. No leaks, bluetooth stopped working as well. In early 2020 I did take it to get serviced and complained of shuddering and shaking upon acceleration but was told it's fine and within normal specs. Car left me stranded so they knew since then they've got a problem. Car is currently available for inspection at the garage where I'm expecting it to get fixed.

Engine shudders and sometimes stalls out when accelerating from complete stop and from low speed. Shudders also after changing gears or when trying to accelerate quickly like to change lanes. Especially after being driven more than about 50 miles without stopping. Has to be cranked 2 or 3 times after fueling and engine will only stay on if accelerator is pressed almost to the floor. Check engine light comes on and goes off randomly.

My car sounds like its going die when putting fuel in my car, I have to leave car running while fueling. No matter the level of fuel. If I turn on my car after fueling, it takes a few tries to get car started back. Sometimes my car shakes when taking off or speeding up. This has been going on for the last year. Check engine light is on.

Tech states is not included in recalls, though thinks it should be included. Parts on backorder with no ETA on resolution. No repairs able to be made. Purge Control Valve failed, causing engine to die while fuel gauge showing 3/4 tank, repeated issue until tranmission control module failure rendered vehicle mostly unusable. My vehicle is a 2018 Ford Focus st and I am not the first person to have this problem. My vehicle casually lost 3rd and 4th gear synchronizer out of the blue and I had to purchase to synchronizers to replace them. Among pulling the transmission apart and splitting the case open. My mechanic and I identified that 3rd and 4th gear synchronizers had metal tabs on them to keep them in position and they snapped off on every side, so there being a total of six tabs broken, three per synchronizer as you see in the photos. I am not the first person to have this issue so I would ask if you would please review this issue and look deeper into it to possibly come up with a solution.

Transmission started to shift and shudder harshly. Very high RPM (up to 5000-6000 rpm) without shifting. Car failed to go into reverse of "Sport" mode when shift level placed in that position. Car jerks and shudders upon initial takeoff from a stop, that feels like a sudden loss of power and has delayed acceleration. Very harsh shifting from 1st to 2nd gear that jolts entire car and driver. The RPM stays very high if the car will go into Drive and after a while the transmission overheats and a transmission temperature warning is displayed. Sometimes the car won't start. Trouble codes pulled are P087B and P287A.

Since i bought the car in 2018 i noticed issues with the car. From jerking, shaking when accelerating, even not accelerating at times which almost caused an accident. Also not changing gears properly. It has left me several times with not giving me the option to reverse. For the first year i constantly took the car to ford dealerships to get checked with everytime it coming back with nothing wrong. I wasted time, money and it was really an inconvenience with the whole hassel. Not to mention the stress it put me through which led to mental issues, psychiatric visits and medications. I contacted ford several times and was also getting the run arround. They finally felt they could shut me with some type of free maintenance plan which at that time decided to give up and just accept. 5 months later took the car again with same issues and finally was told my a service rep that a transmission tech had never even looked it in tge past times. After being checked they had to replace something with the clutch. Also about months later some with the fuel valve/pcv had to be repaired which has been a recall for ford but not my specific vehicle/vin. And now only after 3 yeats of owning the car again having issues the same if not worse with the transmission. I no longer have bumber to bumber, powertain or extended warranty due to too many miles. I will be taking it tomorrow which i am sure is going to cost a lot not to mention i am still paying for the car. Oh and ford said even if it was the same thing with the clutch their repair warranty is only 2 years and i just passed that by a couple of months. I have always had used old cars and went through the hassle of car repairs. Being a single mom and moving to a bigger city to pursue my education i decided to buy a new vehicle so I wouldn't have problems but its been a nightmare with this car! I haven't been in a position to trade it or buy another car. I have just had to deal with it and its brought tears & caused mental issues.

THE SLIP ON THE DOWNSHIFT LURCHED MY CAR FORWARD IN THE RAIN AND ALMOST SLID ME INTO AN INTERSECTION THAT WAS BUSY. WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR TO FORD THEY TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE MY ISSUE AND THAT THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING WHICH MEANS I AM NOW STUCK TERRIFIED TO DRIVE MY CAR IN THE RAIN. I'VE OWNED THREE DIFFERENT FORDS, ALL OF WHICH WERE THE FOCUS SE (2013,2014, AND DEBATED PURCHASING THE 2018) AND ALL OF THESE HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSIONS SLIPPING. WHEN SHIFTING FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR JOLTS BACK AND FORTH AND HESITATES TO SHIFT GEARS. I TEST DROVE THE CAR TODAY AND EVEN THE DEALER ADMITTED THAT THIS IS NOT NORMAL FOR CARS BUT FOR THIS CAR IS TYPICAL BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY ISSUES.

TRANSMISSION/CLUTCHES STARTED SLIPPING OR JERKING WHEN THE CAR HAD LESS THAN 7000 MILES. THE SLIPPING IS WORSE WHEN STARTING OUT ON A HILL, OR WHEN MAKING TURNS. IT HAS ALSO SLIPPED WHEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC. THE TRANSMISSION ALSO FAILS TO HOLD THE CAR STATIONARY WHEN STOPPED FACING UPHILL. WHEN STARTING FROM A STOP LIGHT OR SIGN ON A HILL, THE CAR WILL SLIP BACK. IT WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALERSHIP, BUT THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIX IT FOR OVER TWO MONTHS DUE TO "PARTS BEING ON BACKORDER"

WHEN GO TO BACK IN TO PARK TAKE STOP TAKE OUT OF DRIVE TO NEUTRAL THEN TO REVERSE LIKE IT IS STILL IN NEUTRAL GIVE A LITTLE ACCELERATOR AND IT WILL CATCH IN REVERSE. 1)WHEN ACCELERATOR IS PUSHED ENGINE SURGES BUT CAR DOESN'T MOVE THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, BANG, TRANSMISSION ENGAGES WITH SUDDEN ACCELERATION. 2)PUSHING ACCELERATOR CAR BOGS DOWN INSTEAD OF ACCELERATING, SLOWLY ACCELERATING UP TO SPEED. 3)OCCASIONALLY TURNING A CORNER YOU PUSH ON ACCELERATOR NOTHINGS THERE, YOU HAVE TO WAIT FOR TRANSMISSION TO FINALLY ENGAGE. 4)TRANSMISSION HAS OVERHEATED TWICE, THE DISPLAY SAYS TO SHUT OFF CAR FOR FIVE MINUTES BUT ONCE I COULD NOT GET OVER IN TRAFFIC AND IT JUST SHUT DOWN IN LANE TWO OF THE FREEWAY WHERE I HAD TO SIT UNTIL THE HEAT IN TRANSMISSION WENT DOWN FAR ENOUGH SO IT WOULD ENGAGE AGAIN. 5)PUSHING PEDAL LIGHTLY WILL CAUSE CAR TO MOVE BUT IT SHUDDERS, THEN IT WILL CLANK, THEN SHUDDER, CLANK THEN SHUDDER SEVERAL TIMES AS IT MOVES SLOWLY, IT WILL DO THIS UNTIL YOU USE THE BRAKE TO STOP. 6)VERY LOUD CLANK WHEN ACCELERATING DOWN TO A STOP LIGHT. 7)YESTERDAY IN THE MORNING, 12/11, I BACKED OUT OF DRIVEWAY THEN WHEN I SHIFTED INTO DRIVE NOTHING, CAR DID NOT MOVE. SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL AND BACK INTO DRIVE AND LOW A NUMBER OF TIMES THE TRANSMISSION FINALLY ENGAGED, YOU COULD HEAR IT CONNECTING. 8)TRANSMISSION IS VERY LOUD, CLANKING WHEN DOWNSHIFTING OR COMING TO STOP. 9)THESE PROBLEMS ARE NOT CONSTANT BUT HAPPEN THROUGHOUT THE DAY, EVERY DAY. 10)THERE HAVE BEEN VARIOUS OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION THAT ARE HARD TO DESCRIBE. 11)DRIVING ON THE STREET OR HIGHWAY THE TRANSMISSION WILL ALL OF A SUDDEN DISENGAGE AS THE ENGINE WILL SURGE SINCE THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT IN GEAR THAN BANG IT WILL ENGAGE AGAIN.

THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION PROVIDED WITH MY VEHICLE IS NOT AS DESCRIBED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL. MY TRANSMISSION IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE THE ABILITY FOR THE DRIVER TO "MANUALLY" SHIFT THROUGH THE 6 SPEEDS!? SHIFTING IS NOT AUTOMATIC AS DESCRIBED BECAUSE IT REQUIRES YOU TO LET UP ON THE ACCELERATOR TO SHIFT FROM A LOWER GEAR. WHEN IT TOOK MY VEHICLE TO MULTIPLE FORD DEALERS WITH THIS CONCERN, I WAS INFORMED THAT THEY COULD NOT PERFORM ANY WORK ON THE TRANSMISSION UNTIL THE VEHICLE REACHED 10,000 MILES (4900 MILES TO GO!). THEREFORE I AM STUCK WITH A DANGEROUS CAR THAT SHIFTS WHEN IT WANTS TO AND LEAVES ME VULNERABLE TO CRASHES IN EVERYDAY TRAFFIC AS I CANNOT DEPEND ON ACCELERATION THAT I MAY NEED TO AVOID A DANGEROUS SITUATION. WHEN REPORTED TO FORD CUSTOMER CARE, MULTIPLE TIMES, I WAS TOLD TO TAKE IT TO A FORD DEALER AND I AM STUCK IN THE MIDDLE WITH NO ONE LISTENING OR ADDRESSING MY CONCERNS!?

THEN THE GEAR SHIFT CABLE BROKE, IT CAME OUT OF THE TRANSMITION AND HAD TO BE FIXED, AT THE SAME TIME I HAD THE CLUTCH RE-CHECKED AND IT FINALLY REGISTERED BAD IN THE COMPUTER AND WAS REPLACED. 1 WEEK AFTER GETTING THE CAR BACK IT STRTED OVERHEATING AND HAD TO GO BACK TO THE SHOP (8/7/19), I ALSO REALIZED WHILE DRIVING TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE CAR HAD BURNT THROUGH AROUND 1/2 TANK OF FUELS IN A LITTLE OVER 60 MILES.
