The rear wheel well has rusted on both sides and completely rusted out a large hole (approx. 1 ft diameter area visibly effected) in the the body of the van. The rusted out section is where the back seat is anchored to the frame, so the rust has cause the seat to no longer be securely anchored to the car. The hole has also caused electrical wires to get wet when water gets into the van and intermittently and unpredictably causing failure of electrical features, including headlights and blinkers, while driving.

REFERENCE BULLETIN:FORD TSB 6-14-10, ISSUED JULY 24, 2006 (SUPERSEDES FORD TSB 5-23-7 ISSUED NOVEMBER 28, 2005) MY CAR SUDDENLY LOST CONTROL SURGING AND UNABLE TO SHIFT AND NO REVERSE GEAR. HAVE HAD OFF AND ON PROBLEMS FOR THE PAST YEAR RESULTING IN ABOUT $2000 OF SERVICE TO FIGURE OUT WHY CAR ACTING UP, SURGING, INABILITY TO SHIFT, AT TIMES NO FORWARD OR REVERSE GEAR. ONE TIME DROVE 25 MPH TO GET HOME 20 MILES AND POLICE STOPPED ME BECAUSE SUSPICIOUS DRIVING. I TOLD HIM I WAS HAVE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. TRANSMISSION AS IT TURNS OUT IS PERFECT. PCM IS MALFUNCTIONING INTERMITTENTLY BECAUSE OF ENGINEERING PROBLEM OF PCM SHORTING OUT.TOWED TO FORD DEALER AND SAID NEEDED $2-5000 TRANSMISSION. TOWED HOME AND SUDDENLY STARTED WORKING. INVESTIGATED THIS BULLETIN THAT THE FORD DEALER WAS NOT FAMILIAR WITH AND THEY ACCEPTED MY INFORMATION DESCRIBING THE BULLETIN TO THEM. WHY HAS THIS PROBLEM NOT RISEN TO THE RECALL STATUS GIVEN THE EXTREME DANGER ON THE HIGHWAY DRIVING AND LOOSING ALL CONTROL OF THE CAR CAUSING A VERY DANGEROUS PERILOUS SITUATION TO ME MY FAMILY AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD?

WATER DRIPPED FROM THE WIPER BLADE COWL INTO THE PCM, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO START, DRIVE BRIEFLY, AND THEN SHUT OFF WHILE MOVING, CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL OF ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED AT HIGH SPEEDS OR WITH A LOT OF TRAFFIC AROUND, IT COULD HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS OR DEADLY. THE MECHANIC SAYS THIS IS A PROBLEM HE SEES WITH FORD WINDSTAR VEHICLES. THE MECHANIC STATED THE PCM WAS LITERALLY UNDER WATER WHEN HE RECEIVED THE VEHICLE, DESPITE THE CAUSE BEING A FAIRLY TYPICAL RAIN STORM, AND DRYING OUT THE PCM DID NOT HELP, AS THE DAMAGE HAD ALREADY BEEN DONE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT, AFTER SEARCHING ONLINE AND SPEAKING WITH MECHANICS, APPEARS TO BE COMMON. FORD NEEDS TO FIX THIS ISSUE BEFORE A VEHICLE LOSES CONTROL AT HIGH SPEEDS.

THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO STALL. THE TORQUE CONVERTER WENT OUT AND THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED. THE VEHICLE WAS TRADED IN. *JS *JS
AN INCIDENT FROM ABOUT A MONTH AGO: AFTER TRAVELING ON THE FREEWAY AND COMING TO A STOP AT A RED LIGHT AT THE OFF RAMP AT 2AM, MY CAR BEGAN TO SPUTTER AND REV. I PROCEEDED TO THE NEXT RED LIGHT WHERE MY CAR SHUT OFF. EVERY TIME I STARTED IT, IT WOULD SHUT OFF RIGHT AWAY. I DRIVE FOR A TAXI SERVICE AND LUCKILY I DID NOT HAVE PASSENGERS IN THE CAR WITH ME AT THE TIME. I CALLED A FAMILY MEMBER TO COME LOOK AND HELP. HE ENDED UP PUSHING MY CAR WITH HIS INTO A NEARBY PARKING LOT. AFTER SOME INVESTIGATION, I CONCLUDED IT WAS THE PCM. IT WAS TAKEN OUT TO DRY COMPLETELY AND THE WINDSHIELD AREA WHERE WATER MAY HAVE LEAKED INTO IT WAS SEALED WITH SILICONE. IT STARTED WORKING AGAIN FINE AND HAS BEEN SINCE THEN. NOW IT HAS RAINED AGAIN AND THE PROBLEM HAS REOCCURRED. TODAY, AFTER DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND ENTERING A NEIGHBORHOOD, MY TRANS-AXLE LIGHT STARTED BLINKING. THEN MY OIL AND BATTERY LIGHT APPEARED AND SECONDS AFTER MY STEERING WHEEL STOPPED TURNING AND THE CAR SHUT OFF. I WAS ABLE TO PARK IN THE STREET AND RESTART THE CAR, BUT ONCE I PUT IT IN DRIVE AND MOVED ABOUT 1 FOOT, THE CAR SHUT OFF AGAIN. IT WILL TURN ON AND STAY IDLE, BUT ONCE I START MOVING, IT SHUTS OFF AGAIN. IT HAS BEEN RAINING THE PAST 2 DAYS. I SUSPECT IT IS FROM THE SAME ISSUE AS BEFORE. I CHECKED MY BATTERY WHICH WAS STILL GOOD, AND PUT IN A NEW ALTERNATOR THIS MONTH (APRIL), BUT THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE LAST DECEMBER. AT FIRST IN DEC. THE MECHANIC SAID HE HAD TO RESET SOMETHING, AND THEN IT WAS OK FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS UNTIL FEBRUARY, 2015. THEN IT BEGAN TO START UP AGAIN, AND I REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR LAST MONTH (MARCH). THE NOISE & PROBLEMS WERE HAPPENING AT RANDOM, CRACKLING NOISE UNDER THE DASHBOARD AND UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL, BUT THEN IT HAS OCCURRED MORE OFTEN. AS OF TODAY 4-10-15 THEY ARE ALL HAPPENING, SO I CAN NOT DRIVE THE VAN NOW DUE TO THE LOSE OF THE SIGNALS, LIGHTS, AND NOT BEING ABLE TO OPEN THE DOORS OR WINDOWS. I CHECKED UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL AND SAW A TINY LIGHT GOING ON & OFF AND THEN IT WENT OFF AND SO DID EVERYTHING ELSE WHICH WAS WORKING BEFORE. THE NOISE WAS AROUND THAT LIGHT AREA NEAR A BLACK BOX. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, THE VAN WILL SUDDENLY DIE. ALL ALARMS, ENGINE LIGHT, ABS, TRACTION CONTROL. WILL GO OFF. SUDENLY THERE IS NO POWER. VAN WILL START RIGHT BACK UP AND DRIVE AGAIN. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER A YEAR. I HAVE HAD IT AT 7 DIFFERENT MECHANICS, INCLUDING THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. ON CHRISTMAS EVE 2014 I GOT INTO MY RECENTLY PURCHASED 2005 FORD FREESTAR MINIVAN TO RUN A SHORT ERRAND. AFTER STARTING MY FREESTAR I PUT IT IN REVERSE BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE. I TRIED ALL THE FORWARD GEARS WITH THE SAME RESULT, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE. THE ENGINE RPM'S WOULD GO UP BUT NO MOVEMENT. I TURNED THE VEHICLE ENGINE OFF AND ON SEVERAL TIME WITH THE SAME RESULTS EACH TIME. I HAD TO WAIT TILL THE DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS TO CONTACT MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND DESCRIBE MY PROBLEM. THEY LOOKED UP MY VIN NUMBER AND SAID THAT ALL RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE HAD BEEN DONE INCLUDING THE TORQUE CONVERTER RECALL. I THEN HAD MY FREESTAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP TO INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM. UPON INVESTIGATION IT WAS DETERMINED THAT WATER HAD GOTTEN INTO MY POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE, AND THAT IS WHAT WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. THEY REMOVED THE MODULE AND DRIED IT AND THE CONNECTOR OUT THEN REINSTALLED IT AND SEALED IT. AFTER REINSTALLING THE MODULE THEY THEN STARTED THE VEHICLE AND WERE ABLE TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO ALL THE GEARS AND GET THE TRANSMISSION TO FULLY FUNCTION, BUT NOW THERE WAS A SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ON. THE VEHICLE NOW WOULD NOT IDLE PROPERLY AND HAD A HESITATION WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE. IT WAS DETERMINED AFTER FURTHER CHECKS THAT THERE WERE FUEL CODES COMING UP AND THAT THEY WERE RELATED TO THE PCM GETTING WET. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (WHICH FORD NO LONGER MANUFACTURES) WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. TO FIX THE PROBLEM IT WOULD BE A COST OF $1000.00 FOR A RE-MANUFACTURED MODULE AND REPROGRAMMING IN ADDITION TO THE $650.00 THAT HAD ALREADY BEEN INCURRED FOR THE WORK THAT HAD BEEN DONE SO FAR. NOTE THERE HAD BEEN NO PROBLEMS OR ISSUES OR ENGINE CODES ON THIS VEHICLE TILL THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED OTHER THAN A PROBLEM ONE NIGHT WITH THE POWER DOOR LOCKS NOT WORKING, WHICH CORRECTED ITSELF AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE. *TR

THE AUTOMATIC LOCKS WILL NOT UNLOCK VIA THE KEY FOB OR THE DOOR BUTTON. AND BECAUSE FORD DESIGNED THE REAR HATCH / DOORS WITHOUT A MANUAL KEY INPUT. IT BECOMES IMPOSSIBLE TO UNLOCK THE DOORS. THIS IS ESPECIALLY CONCERNING BECAUSE THERE IS NO WAY TO MANUALLY OPEN THE REAR HATCH. THIS IS A SERIOUS FLAW THAT COULD HAVE VERY SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES. THERE SHOULD ALWAYS BE A WAY TO UNLOCK ALL OF THE DOORS FROM THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. AS A MOTHER OF TWO KIDS, I KNOW THAT MY KIDS WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE IF THEY NEEDED TO WHEN ONE OF THESE EPISODES HAPPEN. IT IS ALSO A CONCERN IF A LARGE ITEM IS LOADED INTO THE BACK OF THE VAN, THEN THE MALFUNCTION HAPPENS AND YOUR CUSTOMER CAN'T GET IT OUT. THIS JUST HAPPENED TO MY HUSBAND. WE LOST OUT ON MY HUSBAND BEING PAID BECAUSE HE WAS LATE TO HIS SHOW BECAUSE OF THIS RIDICULOUS MALFUNCTION THAT EVERY FORD FREESTAR OWNER IS EXPERIENCING. THEY SAID IT WAS THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR AND REPLACED IT. TWO WEEKS WENT BY AND ONE DAY THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T START. WE HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE MASS AIR FLOW CONNECTOR AND REPLACED IT. THE NEXT DAY THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T START. WE HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. THE ENGINE ALWAYS IDLES VERY ROUGH AND NO ONE CAN CORRECT IT. IT HAS STALLED IN TRAFFIC. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH AND HAVE BEEN MADE AWARE OF A PROBLEM WITH THE PCM MODULE ON THESE VEHICLES. I PICKED UP CAR ON MONDAY EVENING AND ON WEDNESDAY CAR HAD TO BE TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER. CAR WOULD START BUT WOULD NOT DRIVE. FORD COULD NOT FIND PROBLEM AND FINALLY I CALLED A FRIEND TO ASK FOR A SOLUTION. BECAUSE OF ALL THE ISSUES WITH THE PCM AND HIS EXPERTISE I CALLED MY FORD ADVISOR [XXX] AND TOLD HIM TO CHECK THE PCM FOR WATER DAMAGE. HE CALLED ME BACK SHORTLY AND SAID THEY FOUND THE WATER DAMAGE. THIS IS A VAN MADE VERY WRONG WITH A DESIGN SO THAT YOUR WINDSHIELD LETS WATER FLOW ONTO THE COWL AND THEN DAMAGES THE BRAIN FOR THE CAR. I NOW HAVE TO PAY 1000.00 TO FIX A MISTAKE FORD MOTOR CREATED. THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR EVERYONE WHO OWNS THIS VEHICLE. I HOPE FORD FIXES IT ON A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE DIES. ON 4/14 I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 70 MPH WHEN THE CAR STARTED TO JERK. LUCKILY I WAS CLOSE TO HOME THIS TIME AND AFTER STOPPING SEVERAL TIMES WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR IN THE DRIVEWAY. MY YOUNGEST DAUGHTER WAS IN THE CAR WITH ME WHO IS NOW AFRAID TO GET BACK IN THE CAR. THE NEXT MORNING I HAD IT TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. A FEW DAYS LATER THEY SAID IT WAS MY ALTERNATOR. I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD CREDIT ME BACK THE MONEY I PUT OUT FOR THE CAM SENSOR. THEY PUT IN THE NEW ALTERNATOR AND TEST DROVE THE CAR. GUESS WHAT - THE CAR STILL JERKED. THE SHOP MANAGER TOOK IT HOME WITH A COMPUTER HOOKED UP TO IT. THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. THEY THEN PUT A CALL INTO THE FORD HOTLINE. A WEEK LATER THEY TELL ME IT IS THE PCM. IT GOT WET. OVER $400 TO FIX AND THAT IS WITH A USED PART. OVER $1200 IF IT IS NEW. A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH FINDS THE PCM IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE FREESTAR. NOT SURE WHEN IT WILL BE RECALLED. AT THE VERY, VERY LEAST I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT FORD WOULD HAVE CONTACTED THE VEHICLE OWNERS TO MAKE THEM AWARE THAT A SERIOUS ISSUE LIKE THIS EXISTED. THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO HAVE GRAVE CONSEQUENCES FOR INNOCENT FAMILIES OWNING THESE VEHICLES. IT IS MY OPINION THAT VANS IN PARTICULAR SHOULD BE SCRUTINIZED A LITTLE MORE CLOSELY DUE TO THEIR INTENDED AUDIENCE, SOCCER MOMS HAULING AROUND THE MOST VALUABLE POSSESSION OF THAT FAMILY, THEIR CHILDREN. THE VAN WAS ACTING WEIRD ON AND OFF -NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT UNTIL IT STARTED HAPPEN MORE FREQUENTLY. JUNE 2012, I GOT THE P1340 CODE THAT THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR HAD GONE BAD, I REPLACED IT, WENT OUT AGAIN, I WAS TOLD IT COULD HAVE BEEN A FAULTY PART, CHANGED IT AGAIN, WENT OUT AGAIN, DECIDED THIS IS BEYOND ME. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY "FIXED" THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR AND ANOTHER PART THAT WAS CAUSING THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR NOT TO WORK. ($900) IT BROKE AGAIN BECAUSE THE PART THEY PUT IN WAS DEFECTIVE. THEY REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE PART AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AGAIN. HAD IT TOWED TO DEALERSHIP TO CHECK OUT PROBLEM AT INITIAL CONTACT WAS TOLD THEY KNEW OF NO PROBLEMS RELATING TO TORQUE CONVERTER REPLACEMENT. WE WERE TOLD BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC THAT IF FLUIDS WERE NOT CHANGED THAT IT COULD CAUSE THE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL WHICH IT DID. SYMPTOMS INCLUDE INTERMITTENT INCIDENCES INCLUDING VEHICLE'S FAILURE TO START, RUNNING ROUGH, IMPROPERLY ACCELERATING, REFUSING TO MOVE FORWARD/BACKWARD, AND OTHER RANDOM PROBLEMS. THE FUEL SYSTEM COMPONENTS/CAMSHAFT SENSOR/ETC, AS WELL AS THE TRANSMISSION HAVE BEEN REPLACED ON THE VEHICLE, BUT ALL OF THESE ISSUES STILL EXIST. CODES DO NOT SHOW UP ON MECHANIC'S DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTERS UNLESS THE CAR IS ACTIVELY HAVING THE PROBLEM, WHICH SEEMS TO RARELY HAPPEN. MECHANICS, INCLUDING THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP, HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO CONFIRM THE PROBLEM WITH THE PCM; HOWEVER, OUR MECHANIC DID FIND WATER IN THE COMPUTER MODULE. HE DRIED IT OUT AND RESEALED IT, IN HOPES OF RESOLVING THE ISSUES WE WERE HAVING. THE PROBLEMS HAVE CONTINUED THOUGH AND DESPITE LACK OF CODES, ALL INDICATIONS ARE THAT THE COMPUTER IS NO LONGER GOOD. ANOTHER PROBLEM IS THE FACT THAT GETTING A REPLACEMENT PCM IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE. THE DEMAND FOR FREESTAR RECONDITIONED COMPUTERS IS SO HIGH THAT WE'VE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND ONE TO REPLACE THE BAD UNIT IN THE VAN. (APPARENTLY, NEW PCM'S ARE NOT AVAILABLE AT ALL.) AFTER SEEING THE MASSIVE NUMBER OF ON-LINE COMPLAINTS WHICH ARE SO SIMILAR TO OURS, I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT FORD SHUT THE CASE REGARDING THE COMPUTER PROBLEM. WE HAVE HAD CONTINUAL PROBLEMS FOR AT LEAST NEAR 2 YEARS WITH THE VEHICLE, BUT NO MECHANIC (INCLUDING FORD'S) HAS BEEN ABLE TO ACCURATELY CONFIRM THE BASIS OF SUCH ISSUES. POWER STEERING WAS LOST AS WELL MAKING THE CAR IMPOSSIBLE TO MANEUVER. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN AND I WAS FORCED TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, SHIFT INTO PARK AND REENGAGE THE IGNITION. FROM THAT POINT ON, UNTIL I ARRIVED HOME, THE FREESTAR WOULD NOT SHIFT BEYOND SECOND GEAR. IF I MADE AN ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATE, AGAIN THE ENGINE WOULD SPUTTER AND ALL POWER TO THE ENGINE, POWER STEERING AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS WOULD SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY. VEHICLE HAS HAD ACCELERATION AND REVVING OF ENGINE WHEN IDLING IN NEUTRAL, AND ALSO SOMETIMES NO REVERSE GEAR. SOMETIMES IT JUST FAILS TO START. ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN ATTEMPTED TO BE REPAIRED BY TWO DIFFERENT FORD DEALERSHIP MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENTS AND ANOTHER LOCAL MECHANIC. ALL PROBLEMS APPEAR TO BE RELATED TO THE COMPUTER (PCM) AND/OR TRANSMISSION. THE COMPUTER (PCM) HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE BY FORD IN THE LAST EIGHT MONTHS BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. WATER KEEPS GETTING INTO THE PCM COMPARTMENT AND CAUSING HAVOC. THEY DON'T SEEM TO KNOW HOW TO STOP IT, AND THE PROBLEM KEEPS REPEATING ITSELF. LAST TIME, TWO WEEKS AGO, WE HAD TO CALL 911 WHEN WE STOPPED FOR A RED LIGHT ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I STEPPED ON THE GAS, BUT THE VAN DID NOT GO FORWARD. CARS WERE NOW RACING PAST OUR STOPPED VAN, ON BOTH SIDES, AT HIGH SPEED. WE WERE SITTING DUCKS. WE CALLED 911 TO GET POLICE OUT TO STOP TRAFFIC FOR FEAR OF BEING REARENDED AT HIGH SPEED. MYSELF, WIFE AND THREE KIDS (10,7,2) WERE STUCK THERE. GOOD SAMARATIN RISKED HIS LIFE AND STOPPED ALL TRAFFIC BEHIND US WHILE I CARRIED KIDS OUT OF VAN TO SAFETY. OTHERS HELPED PUSH THE VAN OFF THE ROAD. VAN HAS BEEN AT DEALERSHIP SINCE THEN FOR THE LAST TWO WEEKS, BUT THEY SAY "CAN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM" (WHEN THEY KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IT IS). I ASKED THEM TO OPEN COMPUTER AGAIN TO CHECK FOR WATER BUT THEY REFUSE -- SAYING IT'S TOO DIFFICULT AND IT CAN'T BE IN THERE (EVEN THOUGH IT HAS PROVEN TO BE THE PROBLEM ON NUMEROUS PREVIOUS INSTANCES). I REPORTED ISSUE TO FORD NATIONAL "CUSTOMER CARE" HOTLINE SEVERAL TIMES. I HAVE ASKED THEM TO RECALL THE VAN FOR SAFETY ISSUES AND TO HELP ME. THEY REFUSE (CITING "OUT OF WARRANTY"). MY FAMILY AND I PULLED INTO THE BANK TO GET SOME MONEY THEN WHEN WE WERE PULLING OUT ACROSS A FOUR LANE HIGHWAY OUR VAN ACTED LIKE IT WAS PULLED INTO NUTRUAL. I COASTED IT BACK INTO PARKING LOT. WE CALLED FORD AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE IT HAD 50,800 MILES ON IT AND THE WARRANTY RAN OUT AT 50,000 MILES. I HAD AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FIX IT. ALSO IT HAS BEEN UP AT OUR LOCAL DEALER 5 TIMES SINCE 10/1/2009 BECAUSE IT WAS SHUTING OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RAOD WHNE IT RAINED.THEY CHANGED THE COMPUTER AND SAID THAT WAS WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS BUT IT DID IT AGAIN. I WAS INFORMED THE NEXT TIME IT WAS THE TRANS. AGAIN. IT TURNED OUT THAT THE FIRE WALL WAS LEEKING WATER ON THE WIRING HARNES.

PURCHASED A 2005 FORD FREESTAR MARCH 2009. HAS SUFFERED FROM REPEATED LOSS OF MOTIVE POWER WITH THE COMPUTER OFTEN RECORDING "NO CODES" PER THE DEALER. HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER ATMULTIPLE TIMES FOR VARIOUS SUPPOSED REPAIRS INCLUDING NEW COMPUTER, ALTERNATOR, ETC., BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING CAUSING A LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKE CONTROL. THIS HAS OCCURRED AT LEAST 8 TIMES IN THE LAST 12 MONTHS AND WE LEFT THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALER FROM 9/10/09 THROUGH 11/12/09 AND AGAIN FROM 11/15/09(?) THROUGH 2/5/2010 DUE TO OUR CONCERNS ABOUT THE VEHICLE'S SAFETY. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 60MPH AND SLOWED DOWN TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN. UPON COMPLETING MY LEFT HAND TURN I STARTED TO TRY TO ACCELERATE BUT THE VAN DIDN'T GO ANY WERE. AN AUTHORIZED DEALER STATED THAT THE COMPUTER AND ENTIRE WIRING HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED SINCE THE COMPONENTS WERE WET AND THE SEAL WAS DAMAGED. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. TWICE OUR 2005 FORD FREESTAR EXPERIENCED WATER LEAKAGE THROUGH THE COWL GRILL ON THE HOOD. AFTER HEAVY RAIN IN MARCH 2008, THE FIRST OF SEVERAL BREAKDOWNS AND FIX ATTEMPTS OCCURRED, RESULTING IN 3 MONTHS OUT OF SERVICE, AND REPLACEMENTS OF THE WIRING HARNESS, THE PCM COMPUTER, SEVERAL OTHER COMPUTERS AND SENSORS, AND THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION, EQUALING NEARLY $5,000 IN TOW, RENTAL CAR, AND REPAIR BILLS--SOME OF WHICH THE DEALERSHIP TALKED MY INSURANCE TO PAY FOR AS A "WATER DAMAGE CLAIM." IN BETWEEN, WE'VE HAD MULTIPLE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEMS AND BREAKDOWNS, AND THEN THIS PAST MARCH 2009, ALSO DURING HEAVY RAIN, THE CAR EXPERIENCED THE WATER DAMAGE BREAKDOWN. THIS TIME THE WATER ONLY RUINED THE PCM COMPUTER, BUT THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO HONOR THE REPAIRS THAT WERE LESS THAN 12 MONTHS OLD AND WE TOOK IT TO A PRIVATE LICENSED REPAIR TECHNICIAN. HE FOUND THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ONLINE THAT DESCRIBED THE KNOWN WATER LEAKAGE PROBLEM IN SOME 2005 FREESTAR MODELS AND DID THE RECOMMENDED FIX TWICE. IN HIS OPINION AND IN THE GEICO INSURANCE ADJUSTERS OPINION, THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS. THIS TIME WE HAD NO COVERAGE FOR THE DAMAGE AND WERE OUT OF A VEHICLE FOR TWO MONTHS AND OUT OF POCKET OVER $3,000. I'VE BEGGED FORD'S CORPORATE OFFICES TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK AND JUST LET ME OUT OF THE FINANCING BUT THEY REFUSE DUE TO THE NUMBER OF MILES. ALSO, THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S LEMON LAW OFFICE SAID THERE WERE TOO MANY MILES. IN ADDITION TO THESE PROBLEMS, IN 90,000 MILES, I'VE HAD TO REPLACE THE ROTORS NOW FOUR TIMES BECAUSE THEY ARE WARPING DANGEROUSLY. THE PADS ARE OK, BUT THE ROTORS ARE CONTINUALLY WARPING AND IT COSTS $800 EACH TIME TO HAVE THE BRAKES FIXED. *TR
