AFTER HAVING THE TORQUE CONVERTER REPLACED AS THE RECALL SAYS I NOTICED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS DOING GOOD BUT RIGHT OUTSIDE THE WARRENTY MILEAGE I NOTICED THAT IT STARTED ACTING KINDA LIKE BEFORE AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS GUESS WHAT AS I WAS CLIMBING UP A HILL ON MY DRIVEWAY THE TRANSMISSION STOPPED PULLING STARTING TO ROLL BACKWARDS AND MAKING A GRINDING NOISE AS FOR IT TO RECALL THE TORQUE CONVERTER THEN WHY HAS IT ONCE AGAIN ALMOST LIKE ME WITH LOSS OF ALL GEARS YET NO NEW RECALL HAD BEEN ADDED WHY DID IT DO THIS AGAIN?

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE. THE CONTACT TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE PCV VALVE WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED WITH THE VEHICLE NOT ACCELERATING FROM A STOPPED POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BELL FORD (1200 NJ-27, COLONIA, NJ 07067 (732) 388-6900) AND REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 12V006000 (POWER TRAIN) AND 13V081000 (SEATS). THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PERFORMING THE RECALL REPAIRS, THE LUG NUTS WERE DAMAGED. THE DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S SIDE AXLES WERE FRACTURED, THE OIL PAN WAS DAMAGED, AND POWER STEERING LINES WERE ALSO DAMAGED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. WHILE DRIVING HOME, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER DECLINED TO SERVICE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER CONTACTED THE SAME DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALLS. THE CONTACT WAS OFFERED NO ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO UNSATISFACTORY CUSTOMER SERVICE AT DEALERSHIP AND UNRESOLVED VEHICLE PROBLEMS. *SMD CONSUMER SENT ADDITIONAL CORRESPONDENCE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON AFTER MULTIPLE REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO STALL. THE TORQUE CONVERTER WENT OUT AND THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED. THE VEHICLE WAS TRADED IN. *JS *JS
WHEN IT'S RAINING OR WET SNOW OUTSIDE THE VAN STARTS TO CHUG. THIS CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO HAVE LOSS OF POWER AND IT BECOMES JERKY. THE ENGINE LIGHT STARTS TO FLASH. IT ONLY DOES THIS WHEN IT'S WET OUTSIDE- IT HAPPENS ON THE FREEWAY, DIRT ROADS, PAVED IN TOWN ROADS.... I'M SURE IT IS THE ELECTRICAL BOX UNDER THE HOOD GETTING WET FROM A MANUFACTURE OVERLOOK- I'VE READ THIS WAS AN ISSUE AND BECAUSE IT HASN'T CAUSED A DEATH IT'S NOT SOMETHING FORD HAS TO FIX? I HAVE CHILDREN AND I WILL NOT ALLOW MY FAMILY TO BE A LOSS BECAUSE OF A MANUFACTURE ISSUE. FORD SHOULD BE PAYING FOR THE FIX.

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY AND OTHER UNIDENTIFIED COMPONENTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. BECAUSE OF A RECALL LETTER WE TOOK IT IN TO UPTOWN FORD FOR THE TORQUE CONVERTER REPLACEMENT ON 09/05/2014. THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED. ON 06/29/2015 WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY IN PEWAUKEE, WITH OUR FOUR SMALL CHILDREN IN THE BACK, THE VAN LOST FORWARD AND REVERSE POWER AND COULD HAVE EASILY, BUT FORTUNATELY DID NOT, RESULTED IN A CRASH; THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN, STEERING AND BRAKING WERE UNAFFECTED AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM REMAINED FUNCTIONAL. I WAS ABLE TO HAVE TO VAN TOWED RIGHT AWAY TO OUR LOCAL MECHANICS SHOP THAT DAY (6/29/15). THE FOLLOWING DAY (06/30/2015) I CALLED UPTOWN TO SEE IF THEY COULD TAKE A LOOK AT IT BECAUSE THAT WAS WHERE TO RECALL REPLACEMENT WAS PERFORMED. FRED IN THE REPAIRS DEPARTMENT SAID HE COULDN'T LOOK AT IT UNTIL JULY 8TH AND THEN THE REPAIR WOULD TAKE UP TO A WEEK TO COMPLETE IF IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION/TORQUE CONVERTER. THEY HAD RENTAL CARS FOR $13-35/DAY, BUT DID NOT HAVE ANY VANS OR SOMETHING THAT WOULD ACCOMMODATE OUR WHOLE FAMILY (4 CAR SEATS). I CALLED THE # FOR FORD FROM THE RECALL LETTER TO GET SOME GUIDANCE R.E. THIS PROBLEM. I SPOKE TO JACKIE. SHE SAID THAT IF IT WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE TORQUE CONVERTER IT WOULD ONLY BE COVERED IF THE VAN WAS WITHIN 12 MONTHS OF THE RECALL REPLACEMENT OR WITHIN 12,000 MILES. IT WAS WITHIN 12 MONTHS, BUT WAS ABOUT 200 MILES PAST THE 12,000 MILE MARK. IT WAS REPAIRED AT 87,670 MILES AND THE ODOMETER AT THE TIME OF BREAK-DOWN WAS AT 99,800+, MAKING IT OUTSIDE OF THE "WARRANTY" PERIOD. SO, I MOVED FORWARD WITH THE REPAIRS AT OUR MECHANICS AUTOMOTIVE. THE TOTAL COST FOR THE TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT WAS $2,259.84. AFTERWARDS I WAS INFORMED THAT RECALLS CANNOT HAVE A LIMITED WARRANTY SUCH AS THE ONE THAT WAS DESCRIBED TO ME BY THE CSR (JACKIE) AT FORD ON 06/30/2015. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT PUT MY FAMILY INTO HARMS WAY AND A REPAIR OF THAT PROBLEM THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED BY FORD/UPTOWN.

I WAS DRIVING ON AN INCLINED OFF RAMP TOWARDS MY DESTINATION. MY CAR ONCE IT GOT TO THE TOP OF THE INCLINE BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN AND THE RPMS WERE EXCELERATING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR CAME TO A STOP I WAS THEN SPOOKED SO I TURNED MY CAR OFF AND THEN TURNED IT BACK ON AND IT WAS MAKING A LOUD REVVING SOUND AND WOULDNT GO INTO ANY GEARS.. SO NOW MY CAR IS JUST STUCK AND I TOPPED OFF ALL OF MY FLUIDS.. I REALLY DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO.. IM A MOTHER OF TWO AND ALSO A FULLTIME EMPLOYEE.. AND I REALLY CANT BE WITH OUT A VEHICLE!! HELP!!

THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER A YEAR. I HAVE HAD IT AT 7 DIFFERENT MECHANICS, INCLUDING THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. IT HAS HAPPENED AT ALL DIFFERENT SPEEDS, 20-65, ALSO HAPPENS IF STALLED AT A STOP LIGHT OR DRIVE-THRU. ADDITIONALLY, I CAN BE DRIVING AT 25-35MPH AND THE RPM'S WILL SHOOT UP TO 7000 OR FALL ALL THE WAY DOWN LIKE YOU ARE IDLEING. I LATER FIND THAT THE ERROR CODE IS P1740 (TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH INDUCTIVE SIGNATURE MALFUNCTION) AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH I SEE THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS MODEL AND YEAR OF VEHICLE FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM YET MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE FROM A USED CAR DEALERSHIP AND I BELIEVE THEY KNEW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BEFOREHAND AND KEPT IT FROM ME, TELLING ME HOW GOOD AND RELIABLE THIS VEHICLE IS. THE VEHICLE STILL DRIVES FOR NOW BUT WHO KNOWS HOW LONG AND WHETHER ANY ADDITIONAL DAMAGE MAY BE DONE JUST BY CONTINUING DRIVING IT. I BOUGHT THIS BECAUSE WE NEEDED A SAFE FAMILY VEHICLE AND NOW I'M OUT ALL THE MONEY I SPENT ON IT WITHOUT ENOUGH LEFT TO FIX IT. DROVE THROUGH A PUDDLE AND THE ENGINE QUIT. APPARENTLY, THE WATER SPLASHED THE ON BOARD COMPUTER (PCM). I TOWED VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY IMPLEMENTED THE FORD TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB) REFERENCE NUMBER(S): 06-14-10, VEHICLE WORKED FINE UNTIL THE FALL OF 2014. NOW THE VEHICLE WON'T START AT ALL IF IT SITS OUT IN THE RAIN. IF IT DOES THE WATER GETS INTO THE PCM AND PREVENTS IT FROM STARTING. NOW IT APPEARS AS THOUGH WATER IS INTRUDING SOMEWHERE ELSE AND IT IS CONFOUNDING THE PCM (ENGINE COMPUTER) WITH MORE WATER / MOISTURE. THE CAR IS NOW WORTHLESS TO ME AND I WILL HAVE TO SCRAP IT SINCE IT CANNOT OPERATE IN A NORMAL MIDWESTERN CLIMATE. I SURELY DO NOT WANT TO SPEND ANOTHER $1500 TO $2500 TO FIX THE PROBLEM ONLY TO FIND OUT IT IS TEMPORARY. THIS IS SIMPLY A DESIGN FLAW. FORD SHOULD RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND PAY OFF THE OWNERS TO HAVE THEM DESTROYED SINCE THE WET PCM CAN CAUSE THE CAR TO STALL WHEN ACCELERATING OR SIMPLY DRIVING DOWN A RAINY ROAD. *TR

THIS PAST WEEK I NOTICE THE FLOOR MATS WEREN'T WET ONLY THE CARPET BENEATH IT WAS SOAKED. MY KIDS DON'T SPILL JUST UNDER THE MATS. THE WATER MUST BE ENTERING FROM THE OUTSIDE IN. THE VAN WAS ACTING WEIRD ON AND OFF -NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT UNTIL IT STARTED HAPPEN MORE FREQUENTLY. JUNE 2012, I GOT THE P1340 CODE THAT THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR HAD GONE BAD, I REPLACED IT, WENT OUT AGAIN, I WAS TOLD IT COULD HAVE BEEN A FAULTY PART, CHANGED IT AGAIN, WENT OUT AGAIN, DECIDED THIS IS BEYOND ME. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY "FIXED" THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR AND ANOTHER PART THAT WAS CAUSING THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR NOT TO WORK. ($900) IT BROKE AGAIN BECAUSE THE PART THEY PUT IN WAS DEFECTIVE. THEY REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE PART AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AGAIN. AFTER THEY HAD THE CAR FOR 2 WEEKS THEY FOUND ANOTHER SMALL PROBLEM. ($130) I INSISTED AT THE TIME THAT THEY DIDN'T MAKE THE PROPER REPAIRS. THEY ASSURED ME THAT IT ALL STILL NEEDED TO BE DONE. (CAUGHT SOME DOUBLE TALK) I EXPERIENCED A FEW MORE ISSUES WITH THE VAN LOSING POWER. (JULY,SEPTEMBER, OCTOBER -CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT TURN ON.) I:N DECEMBER THE CAR TURNED OFF AND I WAS ONLY ABLE TO GET ABOUT 25FT PER RESTART AND THE LIGHT CAME ON. I'VE NOTICED OTHER FEATURES NOT WORKING PROPERLY OR WORKING INTERMITTENTLY. (POWER LOCKS, POWER WINDOWS, RADIO, POWER DOORS, KEY REMOTE ...) I HAVE LEARNED THAT OTHER 2005 FREESTAR OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED SIMILAR INCIDENTS CAUSED BY WATER LEAKING INTO THE CAR THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD WIPER BLADES AND RUNNING DOWN THE WIRE HARNESS CAUSING MULTIPLE PARTS TO SHORT OUT FROM TIME TO TIME. WAS DRIVING HOME FROM STORE (ABOUT 20 MILES) WHEN ENGINE CUT OFF WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 45 MPH, PULLED OVER AND WAS ABLE TO GET IT STARTED AGAIN. A LITTLE FURTHER DOWN THE ROAD IT CUT OFF AGAIN BUT THIS TIME THE ENGINE JUST REVVED BY ITSELF THEN WENT BACK TO NORMAL WITHOUT COMPLETELY CUTTING OFF. ABOUT 3 MILES FROM HOME IT CUT OFF AGAIN WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 40-45 MPH AND I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THEN STARTED IT AGAIN. DECIDED TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER SINCE IT NEEDED THE TORQUE CONVERTER REPLACED DUE TO RECALL. DROVE IT ANOTHER 20 MILES WITH NO PROBLEMS AND LEFT THE VAN WITH MY SON TO TAKE TO THE DEALER. VAN CUT OUT ON MY SON SEVERAL TIMES WITHIN THE 2 MILES TO THE DEALER. ALSO CUT OFF ON THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALER. DEALER REPLACED TORQUE CONVERTER, OVERDRIVE TRANSMISSION SHAFT SENSOR, AND REPLACED THE PLUGS AND WIRES TO THE TUNE OF OVER $800.00 NOT INCLUDING THE TORQUE CONVERTER WHICH WAS REPLACED AT NO CHARGE DUE TO THE RECALL. DROVE OVER THE NEXT WEEK FOR A TOTAL OF LESS THAN 200 MILES. THEN TODAY THE ENGINE CUT OFF ON ME AGAIN EXACTLY LIKE BEFORE AND I ONCE AGAIN HAD TO COAST OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTART IT. THIS IS VERY SCARY WHEN IT HAPPENS AND COULD CAUSE A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. LUCKILY WHEN IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME IT HAS NOT BEEN ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. SO I HAVE PAID OVER $800 TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER AND STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM. IT SCARES ME TO DEATH TO DRIVE THIS CAR NOW AND IT IS OUR SOLE VEHICLE AS MY HUSBAND IS DISABLED AND DOESN'T DRIVE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WATER PENETRATED THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD AND THE ENGINE COVERING. THE ENGINE COVERING CLIPS FAILED TO SUSTAIN AND THE WATER PENETRATE THE POWER CONTROL MODULE, CAUSING THE ENGINE TO STALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,000.

I HAVE HAD THE CAR STOP AFTER AND DURING RAINY DAYS. MOST RECENTLY THE CAR WOULD NOT START OR MOVE DURING A HEAVY RAIN. I HAVE HAD TO WAIT DAYS UNTIL THE CAR DRIES OUT FOR THE CAR TO MOVE. CAR STALLS WHEN IT STOPS, SHUTTERING WHILE IT DRIVES, THE CAR HAS BEEN TO THE SHOP TWICE KNOW. THE SECOND TIME IT WAS LEFT OUTSIDE THE AUTO SHOP AND IT RAINED OVER NIGHT. I WAS DRIVING 45 MPH IN A HEAVY RAIN WHEN MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO SPUTTER AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING. I STARTED TO PULL OVER, BUT LIGHT WENT OFF AND ENGINE RAN FINE. I WAS DRIVING MY FREESTAR HOME, PULLING INTO MY COMPLEX WHEN THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON, THEN A SECOND LATER THE BRAKE LIGHT, THEN ALL THE POWER TO THE VAN WAS LOST. I HAD NO CONTROL, THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WENT OUT, THE ENGINE SHUT OFF, I HAD TO RUB THE VAN UP AGAINST THE CURB TO STOP IT. WHEN I GOT IT GOING AGAIN AND PARKED IN MY PARKING SPOT THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND I LOST ALL POWER AGAIN. THE NEXT DAY I REPLACED THE BATTERY AS I WAS TOLD IT COULD BE A BATTERY ISSUE, BUT EVEN WITH THE NEW BATTERY THE LIGHT WAS STILL ON. I HAD THE ALTERNATOR AND THE BATTERY CABLES CHECKED AND IT WAS FINE. THEN I WAS TOLD IT MAYBE THE PCM WHICH IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL AND WHAT I EXPERIENCED IS THE IDENTIFIED ISSUE...THIS IS VERY SERIOUS AS I WAS BRING HOME MY FAMILY HOME AND WE JUST GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY LIKE 5-10 MINUTES BEFORE THIS THING SHUT DOWN ON ME, IF THIS WAS THE HIGHWAY WE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY HURT. PLUS NOW I CAN'T EVEN DRIVE BECAUSE THE PART IS NOT AVAILABLE, IT'S ON BACK ORDER, SO THIS MUST MEAN A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE.
