I was driving down the road and my car just stopped like it went into Neutral but it was in drive the car starts up but when I’m Drive doesn’t go anywhere
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently stalled with the battery, oil pressure, and check engine warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer but was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was informed of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 210,000.

I BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM PRIVATE SELLER. ON THE DRIVE HOME I TURNED ON AC AND NOTICED A SURGE SO I TURNED THE AIR OFF. AFTER GETTING THE CAR HOME I FILLED THE TANK AS IT WAS ALMOST EMPTY WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR. THE CAR BEGAN TO SURGE FORWARDS AND BACKWARDS AT AN IDLE, AND THEN BEGAN TO SURGE WHILE DRIVING. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND CODES INDICATED IT WAS A MISFIRE, SO DID A TUNE UP (CHANGED SPARK PLUGS AND COILS) ONLY TO HAVE THE ISSUE GET WORSE. THE CAR IS NOW ALMOST STALLING AND SURGING HARD. CAR IS VERY SLOW TO ACCELERATE AND FEELS TO HAVE NO POWER WHILE ATTEMPTING TO GET UP TO EVEN IN TOWN SPEEDS(25-30MPH) CAR IS UNDRIVABLE SAFELY AT THIS POINT AND I HAVE NOT EVEN OWNED 2 MONTHS. SURGING HAPPENS AT IDLE, LOW SPEEDS, FREEWAY SPEEDS, AND SURGES VIOLENTLY WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE.

THE TRANSMISSION DON'T WORK LIKE THOUSANDS OF FORD FREE STYLE AND THE TRANSMISSION IS HARD TO FIND AND VERY EXPENSIVE BECAUSE THEY DON'T WORK !!!
THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS UNRESPONSIVE AND THE VEHICLE WILL MOVE VERY SLOWLY AT FIRST, THEN UNPREDICTABLY LUNGE FORWARD AT HIGHER SPEEDS. OCCASIONALLY THE PEDAL WILL IMMEDIATELY RESPOND WITH RAPID ACCELERATION WHEN LIGHTLY TOUCHED, CAUSING THE TIRES TO SPIN OUT WHILE TAKING OFF FROM A STOP. ALTERING THE WAY PRESSURE IS APPLIED TO THE ACCELERATOR HAS NO EFFECT. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR OVER 3 MONTHS WITHOUT ANY CHECK ENGINE INDICATORS, AND ONLY RECENTLY WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD TROUBLE IDLING DID A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AND LIGHTLY DRIVEN.

ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, WHILE CAR IS BRAKED BUT IN GEAR (D), CAR LUNGES FORWARD DESPITE BRAKES BEING APPLIED. I NOTICE THE ENGINE REVS SUDDENLY INCREASE WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THIS HAS HAPPENED SPORADICALLY OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS. ON THURSDAY NOV 22 AROUND 7.30PM, I STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN IN WOODBURN, OREGON AS PEDESTRIANS WERE CROSSING. SUDDENLY THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD, BUT THANKFULLY DID NOT HIT A LADY WHO WAS CROSSING AND THOUGHT I WAS INTENTIONALLY TRYING TO SCARE/RUN HER OVER. NOT SURE IF THIS IS RELATED, BUT IN TWO OCCASIONS THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN WHILE IN MOTION AND DRIVING AROUND 35 - 45MPH RANGE. THE BRAKES NATURALLY STIFFENED AND I TOLD POWER STEERING. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTART. ANOTHER ISSUE IS SOMETIMES I LOSE THROTTLE CONTROL OF THE CAR. ON FEW OCCASSIONS, THIS HAPPENED AS SOON AS I STARTED THE CAR, AND SOMETIMES WHEN I WAS STOPPED AT STOP SIGN. ALL THREE OF THESE SYMPTOMS STARTED SHOWING UP AROUND THE SAME TIME, WHICH IS WHY I BELIEVE THEY MAY BE RELATED. THE PROBLEMS STARTED APPROXIMATELY WHEN THE ENGINE HAD 128,000 MILES AND CURRENTLY IT HAS 140,000MILES.

THIS HAPPENED IN A PICK UP LINE AND I COULD HAVE HIT A CHILD IF I HADN'T HADN'T MY FOOT IN THE BRAKE AND DONE ALL I COULD TO NOT MOVE FORWARD. SOMETIMES I'M IN REVERSE AND THIS HAPPENS AND IT'S LIKE I PUT MY FOOT DOWN HARD ON THE GAS. THERE SEEMS TO BE A CONNECTION TO THE AC UNIT, BECAUSE WHEN THAT IS ON IT IS MAKING A LOUD SOUND. I WENT TO CARMAX 3 YEARS AGO (IN 2015) WITH THIS ISSUE AND THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. NOW THEY ARE SAYING IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. THERE IS CLEARLY AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THIS PART IN THE CAR AND IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. SOMETIMES AFTER THE SURGE, MY CAR WILL 'DIE'. THIS HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF 6 LANES OF TRAFFIC WHILE STATIONARY AT A RED LIGHT. WHEN IT TURNED GREEN, I COULDN'T GO BECAUSE MY CAR HAD JUST SURGED AND DIED WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL.

PROBLEMS STARTED AFTER THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR WERE CHANGED BACK IN NOVEMBER 2017. FIRST, THE BATTERY LIGHT AND CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM WENT ON RIGHT AFTER THE FORD DEALER CHANGED THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE ELECTRICAL OUTPUT WAS FINE DESPITE THE WARNING LIGHT. SINCE THEN SEVERAL ALTERNATORS WERE CHANGED BY THE DEALER BUT THE WARNING LIGHT REMAINED AND THE DEALER DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS. TODAY WHILE DRIVING (STREETS AND HIGHWAY) THE DASHBOARD (INSTRUMENT CLUSTER) WENT OFF AND ON AND ALL GAUGES WENT TO ZERO AND BACK ON AFTER A WHILE DURING DRIVING. THERE WAS A KICK TO THE ENGINE EVERY TIME THIS HAPPENED. MY BACKLIGHTS WENT CRAZY (INCLUDING REVERSE LIGHTS) WHILE DRIVING FORWARD ON STREETS/HIGHWAY. TURNING LIGHTS WERE ALSO AFFECTED. OTHER DRIVERS ALERTED ME TODAY. THIS IS A DANGER TO US AND OTHERS. I FEAR THE ENGINE COULD EVENTUALLY GET AFFECTED TOO. THERE ARE MANY POSTS ONLINE WITH IDENTICAL ISSUES AND FORD DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE WILLING OR ABLE TO SOLVE THIS.

I WAS TOLD THE CAR HAD A CYLINDER THAT WAS NOT FIRING AND I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE. UPON THE DEALERSHIP PULLING THE ENGINE THEY VERIFIED THE ENGINE WAS WELL MAINTAINED BY ME AND THE CAUSE OF THE CYLINDER BLOW OUT WAS DUE TO THE TIMING CHAIN BLOWING APART. MY SON COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED . THEIR WAS NO ENGINE LIGHT WARNING NO TRANSMISSION LIGHT AND HE HAD TO CROSS OVER 4 LANES OF HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC TO GET TO THE SHOULDER OF THE GARDEN STATE PKWY. I HAD THE ENGINE REPLACED AND 6 WEEKS LATER UPON PICKING UP THE VEHICLE IT NOW HAS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM THE DAY I PICKED UP THE CAR IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OVER 60MPH FOR ME TO ENTER TRAFFIC. IT STILL DOES NOT CLIMB STEEP HILLS. THE CAR REVS IN RPMS TO 5 AND FEELS LIKE IT IT NOW GETTING AIR OR FUEL. WHEN DRIVING ON FLAT SURFACES TRANSMISSION SHIFTS FINE. HELP

I SEARCHED FOR A RECALL OR SOMETHING TO OFFSET THE COST BUT I HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL THUS FAR. THIS WAS A VERY FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE AND THANKFULLY ONE WHERE I DIDN'T GET INJURED DUE TO CARS ALMOST HITTING ME, RUNNING UP ON MY BUMPER EVEN WITH THE FLASHERS ON, IT'S NOT FAIR THAT THIS COMPLAINT IS CLOSED. I OWN A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE WHICH I PURCHASED IN 2006. I HAVE HAD SOME PAST EXPERIENCES WITH WHAT APPEARED TO BE THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING WHEN MILEAGE WAS AROUND 50,000. THE WRENCH LIGHT WOULD COME ON, BUT THEN THE CAR WOULD RESUME AS NORMAL AND THE WRENCH LIGHT WOULD GO OFF. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT, THAT UNLESS THEY WERE IN THE AUTO WHEN IT HAPPENED OR THE LIGHT WAS ON, THEY COULD NOT RUN A CODE OR DETERMINE THE CAUSE. MY FREESTYLE NOW HAS 108,000 MILES AND THIS MORNING I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY TO WORK, THE TRANSMISSION SLIGHTLY SLIPPED AND THEN WHEN I ACCELERATED, I HAD NO POWER. I WAS ABLE TO ROLL TO A SIDE ROAD FOR SAFETY. I TURNED MY AUTO OFF AND THEN ON, PUT IT IN DRIVE AND REVERSE AND NEITHER GEARS WORKED. MY AUTOMOBILE WOULD NOT MOVE. I HAVE TALKED TO TWO FORD DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENTS AND THEY TELL ME IT WILL BE AROUND $6000 (GIVE OR TAKE) TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. THEY SAID THAT NO ONE WILL "REPAIR IT" DUE TO THE "CVT" TRANSMISSION. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED AND MISSED WORK BECAUSE OF THIS. FORD SHOULD PAY, NOT THEIR CUSTOMERS. I WANT RESTITUTION. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL THESE AUTOMOBILES AND REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION WITH ONE THAT THEY KNOW IS NOT FAULTY. INSTEAD OF SURGING AT LOW SPEEDS, NOW THE ENTIRE VEHICLES PULSES...LIGHTS, ENGINE, INSTRUMENT PANEL, ETC. AT 60MPH THE ENGINE WILL RANDOMLY SPUTTER AN THE RPM'S WILL SHOOT WAY UP - EVERY LIGHT GOES BRIGHT/DIM, THE ENGINE IDLE GOES UP AND DOWN, THE AIR CONDITIONING PULSES AND EVENTUALLY TURNS ITSELF ON AND OFF - THEN SUDDENLY THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER GOES NUTS WITH THE SPEEDOMETER GOING FROM MY SPEED DOWN TO 0 AND BACK UP, WRENCH AND ALL KINDS OF OTHER LIGHTS FLASHING, CHARGING SYSTEM ERRORS - IT'S INSANE. I TOOK IT BACK TO FORD AND THEY SAID IT WAS A LOOSE BATTERY CABLE (!) AND OF COURSE AFTER I PICKED IT UP IT DID THE EXACT SAME STUFF GOING BACK HOME. THIS HAPPENED TWICE MORE, BOTH SCARY BUT MANAGEABLE ONCE I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND ON AGAIN. THEN THIS MORNING IT HAPPENED AGAIN WITH THE REVVING NOISE AND POOR AND JUMPY ACCELERATION BUT AFTER RESTARTING, THE 'CHECK ENGINE' LIGHT CAME ON AND HAS CONTINUED TO BE LIT. SO FAR I HAVE ONLY ENCOUNTERED THE LURCHING AND LACK OF ACCELERATION OCCURRING WHILE IN REVERSE, THOUGH IT'S CONTINUED ONCE GOING FORWARD UNTIL I CAN PULL OVER AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. ON FEBRUARY 11TH I HAD THE RECALL DONE THAT REFLASHED COMPUTER AND CLEANED THROTTLE BODY. THE 12TH AND 13 IT WAS UNSEASONABLY WARM AND THE VEHICLE RAN GREAT. ON THE 14TH THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE AT ALL. THE TEMP WAS BELOW 15 DEGREES. I COULD NOT DRIVE MY CAR FOR A MONTH. WHEN THE TEMPS WENT UP INTO THE 20'S THE CAR RAN FINE. I CALLED THE DEALER TO REPORT THE PROBLEM AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE RECALL COULD ONLY BE COMPLETED ONCE. ON MARCH 7TH I CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY MYSELF AND FOUND A RING OF CARBON AROUND THE BUTTERFLY. AFTER CLEANING THE CAR WAS RUNNING GOOD AGAIN. THIS WAS LESS THAN 400 MILES AFTER THE RECALL HAD BEEN COMPLETED. THE SYMPTOMS OF THE JERKING HAVE GONE AWAY WITH THE CLEANING. THE CONTINUOUS PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE THE ENGINE AND MALFUNCTION LIGHT WILL COME ON AND THE VEHICLE REDUCES POWER AND SPEED. SEEMS TO BE AT LOWER TEMPERATURES. YESTERDAY IT WAS 20 OUT AND IT DID THIS. I HAVE INSPECTED THE AIR AND VACUUM HOSES TO THE THROTTLE BODY AND CANNOT FIND ANY LOOSE, OR BROKEN. I HAVE SPRAYED AROUND THROTTLE BODY GASKETS WHILE VEHICLE IS RUNNING AND CAN FIND NO VACUUM LEAKS. ON INCREASINGLY FREQUENT OCCASIONS, MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE SEL FWD VEHICLE HAS SURGED (OR LUNGED) DURING VERY LOW/0 SPEED MANEUVERS, SUCH AS TURNING INTO, OR BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE/GARAGE; QUEUING UP IN A RIGHT OR LEFT TURN LANE, OR WAITING AT A STOP LIGHT/SIGN FOR TRAFFIC TO CLEAR; OR NAVIGATING TIGHT PASSAGES, I.E., PARKING GARAGE EXIT LANES AND DRIVE-THROUGH LANES. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE EXACERBATED BY HOT WEATHER AND/OR A/C OPERATION AND/OR STEERING WHEEL MOVEMENT. THIS PROBLEM HAD OCCURRED PRIOR TO 9/6/2011, BUT WITH VERY RARE FREQUENCY. NOW HOWEVER, I AM EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM ON AN ALMOST DAILY BASIS. I AM DEEPLY CONCERNED THAT THERE IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE DEVELOPING WITH THIS MODEL. AT A VERY LOW SPEED THE THROTTLE BODY STUCK OPEN, AND THE CAR LUNGED BACKWARDS. I HAD TO SLAM ON THE BREAKS HARD TO NOT ZOOM OUT INTO THE PARKING LOT INTO A PASSING CAR. THE CHECK ENGINE, "WRENCH" LIGHT CAME ON AND THE LUNGING KEPT CONTINUING BOTH IN FORWARD AND REVERSE FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. FINALLY, IT APPEARED TO STOP ONCE I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, AND I WAS ABLE TO BACK OUT OF THE PARKING SPACE. AFTER THAT, THERE WAS SOMETHING DEFINITELY WRONG WITH THE THROTTLE ITSELF. I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE INTO TRAFFIC AT THE NECESSARY RATE. THIS IS A REOCCURRING PROBLEM AS THERE ARE HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF REPORTS AND COMPLAINTS ABOUT 2005-2006 FREESTYLES AND 500S. WAS TOLD WOULD BE $100 FOR FORD TO HOOK UP FOR A DX. IF THE CODES I HAD WERE SAME,WOULD COST EST $800 TO REPAIR. AS MOM OF 3 & WHO DRIVES GREAT DISTANCES FOR WORK, THIS REPAIR ASAP. FURTHER RESEARCH SUGGESTS THIS IS A WELL KNOW THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM FOR FORD FREESTYLE / 500 / MONTEGO MODELS FROM 2005 / 2006 TIMEFRAME. IN ALL EVENTS THE ENGINES SURGES TO APPROXIMATELY BETWEEN 1500RPM AND 1800RPM WITH THE CAR IN DRIVE AND THE FOOT SECURELY ON THE BRAKE. THE EVENT GENERALLY LASTS LESS THAN 5 SECONDS. ALL EVENTS OCCURRED DURING SUMMER MONTHS. LAST EVENT WAS THIS PAST WEDNESDAY WHEN MY SON WAS DRIVING THE CAR. I WITNESSED THE EVENT AS A PASSENGER. THE TWO CODES THAT CAME UP ARE P2106 AND P061B. IT HAPPENS EVEN WITHOUT THE A/C ON SOMETIMES AT LIGHTS, STOP SIGNS, AND IN PARKING LOTS, AND ALSO WHEN IN REVERSE IT LUNGES IN THAT DIRECTION AS WELL; SOMETIMES AT VERY HIGH RATE WHICH IS SCARY. HAVE 3 CHILDREN AND CANNOT FATHOM WHY THIS CAR HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED. THE CAR AHEAD OF ME HAD RUN OFF THE FREEWAY DUE TO SNOW. I STOPPED TO SEE IF HE WAS OK. ONCE I STARTED UP, I PUSHED DOWN HARD ON THE GAS PEDAL TO ACCELERATE AND BE UP TO SPEED FOR THE TRAFFIC COMING UP BEHIND ME. THE PEDAL STUCK TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR KEPT ACCELERATING. AS SOON AS I PUT IT IN DRIVE, THE CAR TOOK OFF AGAIN ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. I QUICKLY HIT MY FOOT TO THE GAS PEDAL AND WAS ABLE TO KNOCK IT LOOSE AND THE CAR SLOWED DOWN. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS A FAULTY GAS PEDAL AND I HAD IT REPLACED (AT MY COST). THE PROBLEM STILL CONTINUES TO THIS DAY. THE DEALER CONTINUES TO TELL ME THAT THERE IS NO PROBLEM AND THERE HAVE BEEN NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE VEHICLE. AFTER THAT FIRST INCIDENT, THERE WAS ONE TIME THAT I HAD STARTED THE CAR IN MY GARAGE AND DROVE DOWN THE STREET. ONCE I TURNED THE CORNER, THE CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN, LUNGING FORWARD BUT I WAS ABLE TO STOP IT. I TRIED A TRICK TOLD TO ME BY MECHANIC FRIEND TO BACK UP THE CAR AND GO FORWARD APPROXIMATELY 40-50 FEET, STOP THE VEHICLE AND REPEAT THE MOVEMENT AGAIN TO RESET THE TRANSMISSION CONTROLS. I ALSO ADDED FUEL INJECTION CLEANER AND FILLED THE TANK AGAIN. AFTER FUEL INJECTION AND LETTING THE CAR SIT, IT WAS OKAY FOR THE REST OF THE TRIP. HAD ANOTHER INCIDENT JUST RECENTLY (JULY 2012). THE SAME WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND MY CAR ONCE AGAIN LUNGED AND DECELERATED AND I HAD TO PULL OFF. LUCKILY, THERE WAS A GAS STATION AT EXIT AGAIN. AND, LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER THROUGH TRAFFIC WHEN DECELERATING WITHOUT HARM TO MY FAMILY. I BOUGHT MORE FUEL INJECTION CLEANER AND FILLED THE TANK. I THEN LET THE CAR SIT AGAIN. THAT SEEMED TO HELP. WE MADE IT HOME AFTER ANOTHER REST STOP FOR THE CAR. SHORTLY AFTER, MY HUSBAND USED THROTTLE BODY CLEANER TO CLEAN OUT MY FUEL INJECTION PATHWAY. HE REMOVED AIR CONNECTION AND FOUND THE THROTTLE BODY TO BE CLOGGED WITH GUNKY MATERIAL AND SPRAYED A GOOD DOSE OF THE CLEANER INTO IT WHILE I GUNNED THE ENGINE TO CLEAR IT OUT. I AM NOW USING FUEL INJECTION CLEANER WITH EVERY GAS FILLUP TO MITIGATE THE PROBLEM. I KNOW I PROBABLY NEED TO REPLACE THE WHOLE THROTTLE BODY, BUT I AM LEARY FROM WHAT I'VE READ ON INTERNET WITH OTHERS HAVING SAME PROBLEM, REPLACING THROTTLE BODY AND THEN IT HAVING TO DO IT AGAIN A YEAR LATER. WE BOUGHT A USED FORD FREESTYLE IN 2008. SINCE THAT TIME, WE HAVE HAD RECURRING PROBLEMS STEMMING FROM A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY. IT HAS BEEN IN-AND-OUT OF THE SHOP, WHILE VARIOUS MECHANICS TRIED TO FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM. FINALLY, APPROXIMATELY TWO YEARS AGO, I DID MY OWN RESEARCH (DISCOVERED THE COUNTLESS REPORTS OF PROBLEMS WITH THE FREESTYLE) AND SPECIFICALLY REQUESTED THAT THE MECHANIC REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. THIS WAS AFTER HAVING SURGES IN RPMS AND LURCHING OF THE CAR (WHILE SITTING IN TRAFFIC WITH NO FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR), AND ALSO DEAD STALLS IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTIONS AND ONCOMING TRAFFIC WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE. THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM UNTIL SEVERAL MONTHS LATER. NEXT, WE REPLACED THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION LAST SPRING (THE VEHICLE WOULD SHIFT DOWN TO FIRST GEAR AT CRUISING SPEED, E.G., ON THE INTERSTATE, THEN GO INTO "LIMP" MODE). IN ADDITION, APPARENTLY THERE IS ALSO A SYSTEMIC ISSUE WITH THE DESIGN OF THE FORD'S SCROLL COMPRESSOR, WHICH BEGAN SHOWING SYMPTOMS THIS PAST SPRING. THANKFULLY MY (NEW) MECHANIC REPLACED A $40 VALVE IN THE COMPRESSOR, INSTEAD OF THE ENTIRE $1000 COMPRESSOR (WHICH THE FORD FOLKS RECOMMENDED). APPROXIMATELY TWO YEARS LATER, WE ARE REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY FOR A SECOND TIME TODAY (IT IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP) BECAUSE OF ISSUES WITH SURGES IN ACCELERATION AND STALLING IN TRAFFIC AND LOSS OF POWER. THE MECHANIC JUST TOLD ME, "AS A FRIEND, I'M TELLING YOU: AS SOON AS THIS CAR IS FIXED, YOU NEED TO SELL IT. YOU WILL CONTINUE TO HAVE RECURRING PROBLEMS WITH IT." WHILE SHE WAS WAITING IN AN INTERSECTION ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, THE CAR 'LURCHED' AND STALLED IN FRONT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. MY FORD FREESTYLE HAS HAD ENGINE SURGING ISSUES FOR APPROXIMATELY A YEAR KNOW. TODAY 6/21/2012 MY CAR STARTED SURGING AT EVERY STOP LIGHT SO SEVERELY IF WE WEREN'T HOLDING DOWN THE BRAKE WE WOULD OF HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF US. THE PROBLEM BECAME SO SEVERE WE HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AT EVERY INTERSECTION TO KEEP CAR FROM TRYING TO JUMP INTO THE INTERSECTION AND STALL. TODAY'S TEMP WAS IN THE HIGH NINETIES AND WE WERE USING THE AIR CONDITIONING. TODAY'S INCIDENT WAS THE WORST ITS BEEN. WENT ON LINE AND SEARCH THE SYMPTOMS AND FOUND THAT A LOT OF FREESTYLE OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. WITH THE SAFETY OF THE CAR OWNER AND PEDESTRIANS THAT COULD BE NEAR THE CAR IN JEOPARDY. FORD SHOULD BE RECALLING THESE CARS AND TRYING TO FIND A PERMANENT SOLUTION TO FIX THIS RATHER THEN CHARGING THE OWNERS HIGH DOLLARS TO REPLACE A DEFECTIVE DESIGNED PART WITH THE SAME DEFECTIVE PART. *TT

THE CAR IDLED HIGH WHILE IN A DRIVE THROUGH LINE WITH A FOOT ON THE BRAKE, IT DID THIS TWICE. AFTER IT IDLED BACK DOWN AND MY WIFE REMOVED HER FOOT FROM THE BRAKE, THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD. LUCKILY, THERE WAS ENOUGH DISTANCE BETWEEN THE CARS TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. SHE SLAMMED HER FOOT BACK ON THE BRAKE, THE CAR IDLED A LITTLE LONGER THEN DIED. *JB
CAR WAS SITTING, PARKED IN A LOT, IDLING FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER RUNNING. WHEN I PUT IT IN DRIVE AND LET MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD AS THE RPM'S FIRST REVVED AND THEN DROPPED. THE CAR DID THIS A FEW TIMES, BUT ONCE I GOT TURNED AROUND TOWARD THE EXIT OF THE LOT, IT STOPPED DOING IT. ABOUT 20 MINUTES LATER, IN A GROCERY STORE PARKING SPACE, IT DID THE SAME THING AS I WAS BACKING OUT TO LEAVE. THE CAR HAD SAT RUNNING FOR ANOTHER 10 MINUTES OR SO WITH THE AIR ON. THIS TIME HOWEVER, THE CAR IDLED UP AND THEN DOWN, LUNGED IN REVERSE, AND THEN IDLED SO LOW IT DIED. ONCE I RESTARTED IT AND FINISHED BACKING OUT OF THE SPACE, I TURNED THE AIR DOWN TO LOW FAN SPEED AND THE CAR WAS FINE THE REST OF THE TRIP BACK HOME. *TR

EXPERIENCED AN ENGINE SURGE AND LUNGE WHILE WAITING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. PANEL LAMP (WRENCH) CAME ON. THEN WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE THROUGH INTERSECTION COULD NOT INCREASE VELOCITY, AS IF I WAS SORT OF STUCK IN "LOW GEAR." I PULLED OFF OF ROADWAY AND STOPPED THE ENGINE. AFTER RESTART, PROBLEM SEEMED TO BE RECURRING BUT BEGAN TO FUNCTION MORE NORMALLY. ON THE NEXT RESTART (TRYING TO DRIVE TO REPAIR SHOP) THERE WAS ANOTHER EPISODE OF LUNGING WHEN TRYING TO STOP (FOOT ON BRAKE, NOT ACCELERATOR.) PRETTY SCARY. MY SHOP FOUND CODES, DID RESEARCH, AND SUBSEQUENTLY REPLACED THROTTLE-BODY AND A BROKEN UPPER ENGINE MOUNT. THEY ALSO RE-FLASHED THE COMPUTER. 1 MONTH AGO THEY HAD REPLACED THE BATTERY. DROVE HOME OK, AND NO ISSUES IN LAST FEW DAYS, BUT HAVE READ ANECDOTES THAT THESE PROBLEMS CONTINUE ONCE THEY START. DON'T KNOW WHAT % OF FREESTYLES DO THIS, BUT IT IS A REAL AND DANGEROUS PROBLEM ON THOSE THAT DO. I'M AFRAID TO PUT MY WIFE BACK INTO THIS VEHICLE! *TR
