TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE IDLING TO PARK WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SURGED 12 FEET FORWARD AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH. THE CONTACT PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP AND CRASHED INTO THE CONCRETE WALL IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WHERE IT CAME TO A STOP. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED NECK, BACK, AND CHEST INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACTS RESIDENCE WHERE IT CURRENTLY REMAINS. THE CONTACT HAD NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000. INVALID VIN.

MAY 16, 2014, FRIDAY NIGHT, AROUND 7:30 PM, LOST CONSCIOUSNESSES WHILE DRIVING DURING VERY HUMID QUICK WEATHER CHANGE PERIOD. IMMEDIATELY PUT ON A/C AND RECIRC ON HIGH WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE TO CLEAR WINDOWS. I THEN PICKED UP MY SON AND FRIEND, PROCEEDED TO DRIVE THEM HOME FROM PLACE AND WITHIN 500 FEET WAS INTO A TELEPHONE POLE WHEN I LOST CONSCIOUSNESS. MY SON TRIED TO SLAP ME IN THE FACE AS HE NOTICED I HAS DRIFTING TO THE RIGHT. I DID NOT REGAIN CONSCIOUSNESS UNTIL POLICE/FIRE BROKE WINDOW TO EXTRACT OCCUPANTS. POLICEMAN WAS HITTING ME IN THE FACE TO WAKE ME AND FINALLY DID, ONCE I DID COM TO, I DIDN'T REALLY CARE THAT HE WAS SLAPPING ME IN THE FACE IOR THAT I WAS STILL IN THE VEHICLE. WITHIN MINUTES OF STANDING, I FELT MUCH BETTER BUT CHOSE TO TAKE AMBULANCE ON SCENE TO HOSPITAL WHERE THEY DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG IN ER. ACCIDENT OCCURED WHILE DRIVING ON MAIN SECONDARY ROAD AT LESS THAN 30 MPH. I WENT TO MANY DOCTORS AND THEY CAN NOT FIND ANYTHING WITH EVEN MRIS, CAT SCANS, SLEEP TESTS, ETC...

THE PAINT ISSUE IS CONFINED TO THE 3 - 4 INCHES OF HOOD BACK FROM THE LEADING EDGE, THE LEADING EDGE, AND THE UNDERSIDE OF THE HOOD. SAME ISSUE AS ANY FORD PRODUCT WITH ALUMINUM HOODS/LIFTGATES. ENGINE LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING ON THE GARDEN STATE PKWY. NO ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON IT HESITATED TO ACCELERATE AFTER LEAVING A TOLL BOOTH AND KICKED OFF. I WAS TOLD THE CAR HAD A CYLINDER THAT WAS NOT FIRING AND I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE. UPON THE DEALERSHIP PULLING THE ENGINE THEY VERIFIED THE ENGINE WAS WELL MAINTAINED BY ME AND THE CAUSE OF THE CYLINDER BLOW OUT WAS DUE TO THE TIMING CHAIN BLOWING APART. MY SON COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED . THEIR WAS NO ENGINE LIGHT WARNING NO TRANSMISSION LIGHT AND HE HAD TO CROSS OVER 4 LANES OF HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC TO GET TO THE SHOULDER OF THE GARDEN STATE PKWY. I HAD THE ENGINE REPLACED AND 6 WEEKS LATER UPON PICKING UP THE VEHICLE IT NOW HAS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM THE DAY I PICKED UP THE CAR IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OVER 60MPH FOR ME TO ENTER TRAFFIC. IT STILL DOES NOT CLIMB STEEP HILLS. THE CAR REVS IN RPMS TO 5 AND FEELS LIKE IT IT NOW GETTING AIR OR FUEL. WHEN DRIVING ON FLAT SURFACES TRANSMISSION SHIFTS FINE. HELP

I SPED FORWARD APPROXIMATELY 20 FEET AND CRASHED INTO THE BACK OF A PARKED PICK-UP. POLICE WERE CALLED. I WAS ONLY BRUISED AND SORE. I DID SEE A DR. AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO FOLLOW UP. MY INSURANCE CO. TOTALED THE CAR. IT WAS VERY DAMAGED ON THE DRIVER SIDE. SOMEONE COULD OF BEEN KILLED IN THIS ACCIDENT. MY DESCRIPTION DOES NOT ADEQUATELY DESCRIBE THE SERIOUSNESS OF THIS INCIDENT. WE HAVE A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MILES PER HOUR AND THE CAR LOST ALL POWER. I PULLED OVER SHUT THE CAR OFF AND THAN SAY AWHILE AND STARTED BACK UP AND IT STARTED GOING AGAIN FINE. A FEW MILES DOWN THE ROAD IT DID THE SAME. THANK GOD I WAS NEAR A AUTO BODY SHOP AFTER PULLING OVER 6 TIMES ANYWAY MECHANIC SAID THAT THE THROTTLE BODY IS BAD. I LOOKED THIS UP AND NOTICED THERE WAS A MAJOR ISSUES WITH FORD AND THIS PART. AS FAR AS I KNOW THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL WHEN WE ASKED. BUT I HAVE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS IS MANY CARS. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND LOTS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SAFETY. AS YOU HAVE NO IDEA THAT THE CAR WILL RANDOMLY STOP. I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED ON THAT HIGHWAY. SOMOENE NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!

CAR WAS PARKED FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES AFTER RUNNING WITHOUT ISSUE FOR 20 MINUTES. WHEN STARTING AGAIN FROM THE PARKED POSITION, CAR LOST ALL POWER STEERING. WITHIN THE 2.1 MILE/6 MINUTE RIDE THAT FOLLOWED, THE POWER STEERING NEVER RETURNED. CHECKING UNDER THE HOOD REVEALED SERPENTINE BELT FAILED IN A CLEAN BREAK. THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVEN PRIOR TO REPLACING THE BELT THE NEXT DAY. ONCE THE BELT WAS INSTALLED, A QUICK RUN THROUGH THE SYSTEM FUNCTIONS INCLUDED RUNNING THE A/C. ALL SYSTEMS SEEM FUNCTIONAL UNTIL THE A/C IS ACTIVATED. WITHIN 3 SECONDS OF STARTING A/C, OBSERVED AUDIBLE MOTOR SOUND FOLLOWED BY ALL POWER FAILED (FULL SHUT-DOWN). TURNED OFF ENGINE, REMOVED KEY, WAITED 60 SECONDS, ALL WAS GOOD UNTIL AGAIN TURNING ON THE A/C, WHEN SYMPTOM OF SYSTEM FAILURE (AUDIBLE MOTOR SOUND CHANGE) OCCURRED AGAIN, A/C WAS TURNED OFF RIGHT AWAY, AND ENGINE AND ALL OTHER SYSTEMS OPERATED AS EXPECTED.

I TOOK IT IN WHERE IT HAS TO SIT AT A DEALER SHIP FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS WITH NO RENTAL COVERAGE. ALSO THEY SAID IT IS UNDER A SPECIAL EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR RPM SURGE BUT IF IT WILL NOT DO IT FOR THEM I HAVE TO PAY $100.00! I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW THIS CAR IS NOT BEING RECALLED!! I READ THAT SOMEONE HIT A PERSON BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM AND THEIR HAS BEEN SEVERAL ACCIDENTS.

TOOK THE CAR TO AUTO SHOP WHERE I WAS TOLD IT WOULD NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. CALLED FORD DEALERSHIP WAS INFORMED THAT A NEW TRANSMISSION WOULD COST $6200.00. CAN NOT AFFORD THIS, BUT IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AS WELL AS UNSAFE FOR MY TEENAGE DAUGHTERS TO DRIVE FOR THEIR LEANER'S PERMIT. WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS????

THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE EXACERBATED BY HOT WEATHER AND/OR A/C OPERATION AND/OR STEERING WHEEL MOVEMENT. THIS PROBLEM HAD OCCURRED PRIOR TO 9/6/2011, BUT WITH VERY RARE FREQUENCY. NOW HOWEVER, I AM EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM ON AN ALMOST DAILY BASIS. I AM DEEPLY CONCERNED THAT THERE IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE DEVELOPING WITH THIS MODEL. THE CAR WILL THEN SUDDENLY RACE TO 2000 RPMS, AND THE CAR WILL LUNGE BACKWARD (OR FORWARD) WHILE MY FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE. WHEN THIS HAPPENS IN REVERSE, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO APPLY THE BRAKE HARD ENOUGH TO STOP MOVEMENT. I DRIVE A 2006 FREESTYLE. JUST WEEKS AFTER BUYING IT FROM USED DEALER THE VEHICLE STARTED LUNGING WHEN I WOULD ATTEMPT TO STOP OR BE AT A SLOW PACE. EXAMPLE BEING IN PARKING LOT AND TRYING TO PARK IT WOULD LUNG FROM ABOUT 1000 RPM TO 4000-5000 RPMS. THIS WOULD THROW MY CAR FORWARD. I DID TAP A CAR THAT DAY BUT NO BODY DAMAGE. ALSO THE CAR WILL BE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE WRENCH COMES ON AND MOTOR SHUTS DOWN. THERE IS NO WARNING AND HAS BEEN VERY SCARY WHEN MERGING INTO 75MPH TRAFFIC WITH NO WHERE TO GO. ON THE 6TH OF JUNE 2011 THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED. HOWEVER WITHIN THE 30 DAYS ALL SYMPTOMS WERE OCCURRING AGAIN. I HAD THE COMPRESSOR GO OUT WHICH COST $1000 TO REPLACE. ON 12/02/11 I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE SHOP, THEY RAN CODES AND FOUND IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION. I HAVE MANY ACCOUNTS OF THE LUNGING AND THE WRENCH SHUT DOWN ISSUE. IT HAS BECOME VERY REGULAR AND MAKES MY CAR VERY UNRELIABLE.

AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM I DISCOVERED THAT IT IS NOT SOMETHING LIMITED TO THE TRANSMISSION BUT SEEMS TO INCLUDE THE THROTTLE BODY AND THE AIR CONDITIONER AS WELL. *TR

WOULD THAT HAVE BEEN FAIR TO WHOMEVER BOUGHT IT? THESE ARE ALL COMMON EARLY MILEAGE PROBLEMS WITH THE FREESTYLES! THERE ARE NUMEROUS POSTS ABOUT OTHER OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS, ESPECIALLY THESE THREE AND THERE ARE A COUPLE MORE THAT FORTUNATELY I HAVE DODGED TO THIS POINT. WHAT IS FORD GOING TO DO? JUST LET THOSE OF US WHO BOUGHT FREESTYLES WITH CVT SUFFER. WHAT ABOUT THE FACT THAT YOU STOPPED USING THE CVT TRANSMISSION ON THE TAURUS X? WHY? TWO DAYS LATER, I WAS STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION WHEN THE CAR BEGAN LURCHING FORWARD, EVEN THOUGH I WAS STOPPED WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. LATER THAT DAY, IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE PARKING IN MY DRIVEWAY. THE CAR LURCHED WHILE IN BOTH DRIVE AND REVERSE. THERE HAD BEEN SEVERAL DAYS OF EXTREMELY HOT, HUMID WEATHER DURING WHICH I HAD BEEN USING THE AIR CONDITIONING IN THE CAR QUITE FREQUENTLY. THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS ON DURING ALL INCIDENTS. I HAVE NOT HAD THIS PROBLEM OCCUR AGAIN AS I HAVE NOT USED THE AIR CONDITIONER SINCE THE LAST INCIDENT.

OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAULTY THROTTLEBODY. THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE BUT WAS REASSURRED WE COULD STILL DRIVE THE CAR. WE STARTED HOME AND THE PROBLEM RE-OCCURRED. OUR CAR SURGED AND THEN LOST POWER. WE WERE STRANDED ON HWY 95 IN 116 DEGREE HEAT. ONCE WE GOT HOME I STARTED LOOKING AT THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS THAT FORD FREESTYLES HAVE RECIEVED ON 2005-2007 MODELS. WE ARE CURRENTLY WAITING ON THE DEALERSHIP TO FIND A REPLACEMENT THROTTLEBODY AND SCHEDULE A REPAIR. WHEN SLOWING TO ENTER A PARKING SPACE OR ON EXIT FROM A PARKING SPACE THE CAR WOULD SUDDENLY IDLE / REV UP TO A HIGH SPEED RPM AND QUICKLY ACCELERATE FORWARD. THIS WOULD TEND TO OCCUR WHEN YOU ARE MOVING BETWEEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE BRAKE, THE CAR WOULD LURCH FORWARD WITHOUT CONTROL. THIS REQUIRED THE DRIVER TO SLAM ON THE BREAK TO PREVENT THE CAR FROM HITTING ADJACENT CARS, PEDESTRIANS AND CURB. THIS ALSO OCCURS WHEN SLOWING TO A STOP AT CONTROLLED INTERSECTIONS. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO OCCUR MORE FREQUENTLY WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES AND AT HIGHER ALTITUDES. THE PROBLEM HAS CAUSED THE CAR TO STALL AND TO TRIGGER A COMPUTER FAULT THAT LIMITED THE FUNCTION OF THE TRANSMISSION. TURNING THE CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN CLEARED THE ERROR.

MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE IS LURCHING WHEN I DO NOT HAVE THE ACCELERATOR PRESSED. IT USUALLY HAPPENS IN REVERSE, BUT HAS ALSO HAPPENED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND COMPLETELY STALLED. I WAS SITTING IN THE CAR WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER ON FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES WITH MY CHILDREN WHILE MY WIFE WENT TO PICK UP A FEW GROCERIES. WHEN WE LEFT I PUT THE CAR REVERSE AND SLOWLY TOOK MY FOOT OF THE BREAK. THE CAR THEN JERKED BACKWARDS AS MY FOOT WAS SOFTLY ON THE BREAK AND THEN AGAIN WHEN IT WAS OFF THE BREAK. THE CAR THEN STALLED AND THE WRENCH LIGHT APPEARED. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES SINCE, MOSTLY WHEN THE CAR IS IN "DRIVE" WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER WORKING HARD AND MY FOOT EITHER SOFTLY ON THE BREAK OR JUST OFF THE BREAK. THE CAR WILL JERK FORWARD. I'M NOT SURE THE COMPONENT THAT IS MALFUNCTIONING, BUT BELLOW IS AN EDUCATED GUESS.

VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. SOMEONE COULD GET HURT OR KILLED BY THIS SITUATION. NOW THE CAR SITS IN THE DRIVEWAY AND MY WIFE NO LONGER HAS A VEHICLE TO DRIVE TO GET HERSELF AND OUR BOYS AROUND. MY VEHICLE LUNGED INTO TRAFFIC, AFTER STOPPING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE WRENCH INDICATOR LIGHT INDICATED A FAILURE, BUT THEN DISAPPEARED AFTER A COUPLE OF MOMENTS. ALSO, WHILE PULLING INTO A DRIVE THROUGH THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD ALMOST HITTING ANOTHER CAR AND I HAD TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES TO PREVENT A CRASH. THIS LUNGE FORWARD, THE ENGINE REVS UP WHEN THIS HAPPENS AND I THINK THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS TO THE DRIVER AND PEDESTRIANS (IMAGINE THIS HAPPENING AT A SCHOOL CROSSING!!!).

ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS MY 06 FORD FREESTYLE HAS HAD AND UNEXPLAINED JERK/LUNGE IN MOTION. WE PURCHASED THE CAR IN OCT 08 AND THE PROBLEMS STARTED NOV 08. I HAVE GOTTEN TO THE POINT WHERE I HAVE HAD ENOUGH, AND MY FAITH IN FORD IS SLOWLY WILTING AWAY. THE JERK/LUNGE NORMALLY OCCURS WHILE COMING TO A STOP AT RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN, OR GOING IDLE SPEED IN THE FOLLOWING PLACES DRIVE-THRU, PARKING LOT, WHILE REVERSING OR PARKING THE CAR. TODAY WHEN I GOT BACK FROM THE GROCERY STORE I WAS REVERSING INTO MY GARAGE AND THE CAR STARTED TO LUNGE I APPLIED THE BREAK AND IT CONTINUED TO JERK ABOUT A FOOT TILL IT STOPPED. I WAS NOT SURE THE CAR WOULD STOP, THIS SCARED ME HALF TO DEATH, I KEPT ON THINKING WHAT IF SOMEONE WAS BEHIND ME. I TRIED AGAIN AND IT HAPPENED 2 MORE TIMES BEFORE I SHUT THE CAR OFF. I THEN TURNED EVERYTHING OFF IN THE CAR STARTED THE CAR AGAIN AND PUT IT INTO REVERSE AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. I WAS VERY GRATEFUL THAT THIS HAPPENED IN MY OWN DRIVE WAY. IF I WAS IN A PARKING LOT I COULD HAVE HIT A CAR WITH IT MOVING A FOOT AND I COULD HAVE HIT SOMEONE. THE JERKING/LUNGING IN THE CAR IS VERY SPORADIC AND HAS HAPPENED WHILE MY HUSBAND DROVE THE CAR AS WELL, SO IT IS NOT OPERATOR ERROR. IT IS SO SPORADIC THAT THIS ACTION IS HARD TO RECREATE AT A GIVEN NOTICE YOU CAN NOT PREDICT THE TIME BUT YOU CAN ANTICIPATE THAT IT WILL HAPPEN AT LEAST 3 TIMES A WEEK. SOME MAY THINK THAT IF IT IS HARD TO RECREATE THEN IT IS NOT A PROBLEM, BUT IF IT HAPPENS AT LEAST 3 TIMES A WEEK THAT IS SOMETHING TO LOOK AT ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT HUMAN LIFE. A VEHICLE IS NOT A LUXURY ITEM ESPECIALLY TO A MILITARY FAMILY LIKE WE ARE. IT IS A NECESSITY THAT SHOULD BE DEPENDABLE AND THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD STAND BEHIND THERE PRODUCTS. SEVERAL TIMES, WHEN I REMOVE MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE TO BACK UP THE CAR "LURCHES" 6 OR 8 FEET BEFORE I CAN STOP IT AGAIN. YESTERDAY, THE VEHICLE DIED AFTER DOING THIS, THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. CAR STARTED IMMEDIATELY, LIGHT WENT OFF, AND DROVE HOME WITH NO FURTHER INCIDENTS. THIS IS NOW A DAILY OCCURANCE WHEN DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. NOT CERTAIN WHAT IS CAUSING THIS. SOME REPORTS CITE TRANSMISSION, SOME CITE THROTTLE BODY, AND SOME CITE THE NEED TO HAVE THE FUEL SYSTEM PROFESSIONALLY "CLEANED".

I WAS WAITING IN LINE TO PICK MY DAUGHTER UP FROM SCHOOL TODAY. WHEN SHE GOT IN THE CAR I TOOK MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE AND MY CAR LUNGED FORWARD AND ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I HAD TO PUSH DOWN ON THE BRAKE TO STOP MY CAR FROM CRASHING INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO TAKE MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE FOR A SECOND TIME AND TO DRIVE AROUND THE OTHER CAR, MY CAR LUNGED AGAIN AND ALMOST STALLED.

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
