1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Answer: The Hybrid system/battery caught fire. The vehicle is with the Insurance company Allstate, I believe should be available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Answer: The vehicle caught fire after just dropping my kid in to his school, the school has to be evacuated as the vehicle burned near the building. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Answer: There is an existing recall "Phev battery cell degragation" from Ford. Here is the Campaign/NHTSA#: 23S33/23V440 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Answer: The Fire Marshall and the Police was present and we had Police report(case num: [XXX]) and Fire Marshall report(case num: [XXX]) 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Answer: I did notice an unusual behavior, like minutes before the fire the AC fan suddenly turned up blowing a non cold air, I attempted to turn off the vehicle 2 or 3 times until the fan and the vehicle completely turned off. I turned it back on to have AC again and it was good, after like less than 5 minutes I turned off the vehicle to get out of the car with my kid to drop him in his school. Minutes after I returned to the car, there was already smoke, had to call 911 after that. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I was notified in July of 2023 of a recall on the battery energy recall module for this vehicle. I purchased this vehicle to charge and have a gas backup. As a result of reading reports of the potential fire due to charging the vehicle and the notice to not charge the vehicle for safety reasons, I have not been able to use the battery and fuel efficiency part of this vehicle. Again, this is the reason for purchasing the vehicle and paying more for the car. I have contacted Ford and there is no fix in the near future. I am only told to continue to use the vehicle in gas mode. This is not an acceptable response and remedy for their issue. The vehicle value has now drastically reduced as no one wants to purchase a hybrid they cannot charge.

Was driving car to dealership for check signal that was appearing on my dashboard when suddenly the car stopped in the middle of the road with a knocking sound from the back and smoke filled the car and the trunk. At that point I exited the car in fear of getting caught in fire or getting struck by another vehicle. Had the car towed to a Ford dealership in Watsonville California.

remedy not yet available ON YOUR VEHICLE, THE BATTERY ENERGY CONTROL MODULE BECM MAY BECOME DAMAGED AS A RESULT OF EXCESS VOLTAGE AND CURRENT FLOW. Safety Risk EXCESS VOLTAGE AND CURRENT FLOW THROUGH THE BECM CAN RESULT IN A LOSS OF MOTIVE POWER WHICH INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH, OR A VEHICLE FIRE IN THE TRUNK AREA Iam not able to charge my vehicle since July 2023 recall notice. I now have to purchase an extra $140 month in gas because I cannot use my charging system on the vehicle. I contacted FORD 1/20/24 1.800.392.3673 spoke to customer recall service and they stated there is not date on a remedy. I requested compensation and requested them to open a case number for me to escalate a supervisor to speak to me and they stated there is nothing they can do.

Manufacturer Recall Number 23S33 NHTSA Recall Number 23V-440 Ford denied my buyback claim due to the vehicle being pre-owned, but with the open recall, I believe this vehicle to be a significant safety risk. My vehicle has limited functionality and reduced fuel economy in a model for which I specifically paid extra money. There is no fix in sight until the end of 2024 at the earliest, and there are other accounts of people's vehicles leaving them stranded or catching on fire! Ford does not have a fix for this vehicle, and a fix will not be available within a reasonable timeframe.

I am writing to bring to your attention a serious matter regarding the delayed resolution of a safety recall for my plug-in hybrid vehicle, a 2019 Ford Fusion Energi, with the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) [XXX] . The recall in question was issued by Ford Motor Company in June 2023. As a responsible vehicle owner, I promptly responded to the recall notice and attempted to address the safety concern with my vehicle. Unfortunately, Ford has been unable to remedy the issue in a timely manner, and this situation is causing considerable inconvenience, financial losses, and most importantly, concerns about my safety and the safety of others on the road. My plug-in hybrid vehicle, which typically boasts an electric-only range of 26 miles when fully charged, has been rendered unable to charge due to the safety recall. Given that I charge my vehicle daily, this has resulted in 154 days, or 4,004 miles, of forced reliance on the gasoline engine. This not only contradicts the purpose and efficiency of a plug-in hybrid but has also led to approximately $300 worth of wasted gasoline, calculated using the IRS mileage reimbursement rate. Furthermore, the anxiety and stress associated with driving a vehicle under recall are substantial. I am worried each time I get into my car that it may catch fire or suddenly stall while I am on the road. This not only impacts my daily life but also compromises the safety of myself, passengers, and fellow motorists. I kindly request the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's intervention to ensure a swift and effective resolution to this matter. The delay in remedying the safety recall not only undermines the purpose of owning a plug-in hybrid but also places the safety of consumers at risk. I trust that the NHTSA will investigate this matter thoroughly and take the necessary steps to ensure a timely and satisfactory resolution. The current unresolved recall has impacted me numbered 23S33. This issue has impacted me since June 16 2023 and I have received minimal compensation. Due to rising gas prices in California, my inability to charge my car for my typical usage which was covered by the battery, and the higher purchase price I paid for this car, this recall has significantly impacted me.

3 WEEKS AFTER I LEASED THE VEHICLE NEW, THE WINDSHIELD SHATTERED WITHOUT ANYTHING HITTING IT. IT IS NOW 3 MONTHS LATER AND I ABOVE 7500 MILES ON THE CAR AND WHILE SITTING IN STOPPED TRAFFIC THE BACK GLASS EXPLODED ON ITS OWN. FORD CORPORATE ONLY ACCEPTED PHOTOS TAKEN AND SUBMITTED BY THE DEALERSHIP TO REVIEW THE CLAIM AFTER TELLING ME A 'TECHNICIAN WILL DETERMINE' WHAT HAPPENED. FORD SAID GLASS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT I UNDERSTAND BUT I AM MODE CONCERNED OF THE OVERALL SAFETY OF THE CAR AFTER THIS HAPPENED. 2 PHONE REPS AND THEIR SUPERVISOR REPEATEDLY SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO, TOLD ME IT IS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR, AND THERE IS NO OTHER PHONE NUMBER OR DEPARTMENT I CAN CONTACT TO FURTHER PURSUE THIS ISSUE.
