THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE DID NOT STOP AND CRASHED INTO THE PRECEDING VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HALDEMAN FORD (640 US 130, EAST WINDSOR, NJ 08520) WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ABS MODULE FAILED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ALSO DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW ABS MODULE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT VEERED TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED 20 TO 30 MINUTES LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN: 10B13 (BRAKE SYSTEM UPDATE) AS A POSSIBLE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. HUNTINGTON FORD (2890 S ROCHESTER RD, ROCHESTER HILLS, MI 48307, (248) 852-0400) WAS CONTACTED TO SCHEDULE A SECOND DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. TAMARA RECALL. I OWN A 2010 FORD FUSION HYBRID. I WAS PULLING OUT OF THE PARKING LOT AFTER WORK WHEN MY BRAKES FAILED ENTIRELY. I WAS LUCKILY ONLY GOING ABOUT 5MPH AND COASTED INTO AN EMPTY SPOT. I HAD MY CAR TOWED AND THE DRIVER TOOK A LOOK AT IT ASSUMING IT WAS JUST THE BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM SOMEWHERE.THIS WAS NOT THE CASE. THE FLUID WAS FULL. AFTER SOME TIME HE ENDED UP DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY AND WHEN WE TURNED THE CAR ON ALL WARNING LIGHTS WERE OFF AND THE BRAKES WORKED FINE. THE NEXT MORNING I TURNED IT ON TO DRIVE TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THE BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING AGAIN. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND APPARENTLY THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL OF CAR BUILT BEFORE OCTOBER 2009. MINE WAS BUILT IN SEPTEMBER OF 2009. AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY CHARGED US A FEE TO DIAGNOSE IT AND REPROGRAM THE COMPUTER RESPONSIBLE. THEY SAID IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN I WOULD NEED TO HAVE THE ENTIRE MODULE REPLACED WHICH WOULD COST UPWARDS OF $2000 PLUS 8 HOURS OF LABOR. CONSIDERING THIS MODEL HAS A KNOWN ISSUE OF COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE I BELIEVE IT TO BE HIGHLY DANGEROUS AND THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE MANUFACTURER TO RECALL AND REPLACE THIS COMPUTER MODULE.

UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, HYDRAULIC BRAKES STILL FUNCTIONED WHEN PRESSED DOWN WITH SIGNIFICANT FORCE.

BRAKE FAILURE: I WAS DRIVING MY USUAL COMMUTE AT 70 MPH ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. AS I APPROACHED MY EXIT RAMP, I LOOKED DOWN AT MY DASH CONSOLE TO SEE A RED BRAKE WARNING (!). THERE WERE NO CARS CLOSE, SO I TAPPED MY BRAKES TO MAKE SURE THEY WERE STILL WORKING. THAT IS WHEN I DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING AT ALL, DESPITE THE PEDAL GOING UP AND DOWN NORMALLY. NO BRAKES GOING 70! I WAS ABLE TO GENTLY APPLY THE E-BRAKE UP THE EXIT RAMP AND COME TO A STOP AT THE INTERSECTION. AT THAT POINT I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE SLOWLY OFF THE ROAD WITH MY E-BRAKE TO MAKE IT TO SAFETY. THIS COULD'VE ENDED UP SO MUCH WORSE IF THERE HAD BEEN TRAFFIC OR PEOPLE AROUND. THE REPAIR SHOP THAT FIXED THE CAR REPLACED MY ENTIRE BRAKE PEDAL ASSEMBLY AS SHOWN IN THE ATTACHED IMAGE. THE SHOP SAYS THAT THE PEDAL WAS NOT PUTTING OUT ENOUGH OHMS (~4.2), WHEN IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN PUTTING OUT BETWEEN 18-20 OHMS. I HAVE SAVED THE BRAKE PEDAL ASSEMBLY FOR THOSE WHO WOULD LIKE TO INVESTIGATE IT FURTHER. FORD HAS NOT SHOWN MUCH INTEREST IN MY SITUATION.

I HAD THE AIRBAG REPLACED BECAUSE OF THE TAKATA RECALL. THE FOLLOWING WEEK, I STARTED THE CAR AND WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. THANKFULLY, I WAS IN A PARKING LOT THAT HAD SOME EMPTY SPACES. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND REALIZED I HAD NONE. THE BRAKE WENT TO THE FLOOR AND NOTHING. I HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE CAR. I THEN STEERED TO A PARKING SPACE AND APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE CAR AGAIN. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE FORD PLACE. THEY SAID IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE AIRBAG REPAIR, BUT I CAN'T GET OVER HOW THERE WAS NO WARNING OF THE PROBLEM. THE CAR HAD DRIVEN PERFECTLY. MY SON COULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING MY CAR AND DOES NOT HAVE A LOT OF DRIVING EXPERIENCE. WE USE THE INTERSTATE ALL OF THE TIME AND I KEEP THINKING HOW I COULD HAVE BEEN IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WHEN THIS HAPPENED. PLEASE NOTE THAT I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE COME ACROSS MANY FORUMS WHERE PEOPLE ARE SAYING THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO THEM AND THEY WERE IN A FORD FUSION HYBRID! A CAR SHOULD NOT SUDDENLY LOSE ITS BRAKES! THE DEALERSHIP SAYS TWO ELECTRIC MODULES WENT OUT IN THE ABS SYSTEM AND IT'S $1,000 TO FIX THEM. THEY ALSO SAID THERE MAY BE A HYDRAULIC PROBLEM BUT "WE WON'T KNOW UNTIL WE REPLACE THE MODULES". I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE I HAD NO BRAKES IN AN INSTANT! THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL.

IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS, I COULDN'T STOP, IT SCARED ME. I CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID AFTER I GOT HOME WHICH WAS FINE. I LET IT SIT, PUMPED THE BRAKES HARD, AND NOW THE BRAKES STARTED WORKING, BUT THE LIGHTS ARE STILL ON. THIS IS MY DAILY DRIVER FOR WORK AND ITS VERY SCARY. TOOK A LONG TIME TO BRING CAR TO A STOP. THIS OCCURRED PRIOR TO TAKING THE CAR IN FOR THE TAKATA AIR BAG RECALL. THE CAR HAD BEEN SITTING AND THE BATTERY HAD DIED AND THEY SAID THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. INSTALLED NEW BATTERY, HAD AIR BAG REPLACED, AND THE ISSUE OCCURRED AGAIN. I AM STILL DRIVING THE VEHICLE BUT DO NOT FEEL THAT IT IS SAFE. WHEN WILL YOUR COMPANY AND FORD TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY? WHEN SOMEONE DIES LIKE WITH THE AIR BAG RECALL. THIS NEEDS TO BE DIAGNOSED AND FORD NEEDS TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS DUE TO ALL THE COMPLAINTS.

I TURNED ON MY CAR AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TURNED LEFT OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY ONTO THE MAIN ROAD GOING 10-15MPH. AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 5 SECONDS ON THE ROAD, MY ABS LIGHT, TRACTION LIGHT, ADVANCED TRACTION LIGHT, AND BRAKE LIGHT ALL WENT ON. I PULLED OFF TO THE RIGHT-HAND LANE AND PRESSED MY BRAKES TO STOP THE CAR. THE CAR DID NOT STOP AT ALL WHEN I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL. I SLAMMED MY PEDAL TO THE GROUND AND THE PEDAL FELT SOFT. THE CAR SLOWLY CAME TO A STOP RIGHT AS I CAME TO THE INTERSECTION. I TURNED AROUND AND WENT BACK INTO MY PARKING SPOT. I HAD TO PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR TO STOP THE CAR. I TOWED MY CAR INTO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE WHY THE BREAKS FAILED. THEY CHANGED THE BATTERY BUT THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO PROVIDE AN EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THAT WOULD CAUSE THE BREAKS TO FAIL.

THEY DIAGNOSED REPLACING ECU AND HCU, EVEN THOUGH THE CAR DIDN'T DEMONSTRATE THE PROBLEM TO THEM.I FOUND ON LINE A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FROM FORD (TSB-09-22-11) AND A BRAKE SYSTEM UPDATE SPECIFIED BY FORD'S CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 10B13. WHEN I TOLD THE FORD DEALER, HE STATED THERE IS NO RECALL ON THE BRAKES. I EXPLAINED TO HIM AGAIN, BUT HE WAS NOT INTERESTED IN HEARING ABOUT THIS. I CALLED THE NATIONAL FORD OFFICE AND SPOKE WITH SOMEONE WHO SUGGESTED I CONTACT YOU. CONSUMER REPORTS SAID IF THE 2010 FORD FUSION HYBRID WAS BUILT BEFORE OCTOBER 17, 2009, THE DEALER SHOULD PERFORM THE BRAKE SYSTEM SOFTWARE UPDATE. ROCKER PANELS RUSTED OUT AFTER 6 YEARS - GARAGED INDOORS. HEATING SYSTEM FAILED - IT TOOK 1.5 MONTHS TO OBTAIN PARTS AND FIX VEHICLE, I WENT TO COLONIAL FORD 5 TIMES (AND HOUR EACH WAY) BECAUSE THEY SAID IT WAS FIXED 5 TIMES IN THE 1.5 MONTHS. 2018-10-25 - CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHT CAME ON - NO BRAKES GOING 65 MPH DOWN A HIGHWAY HILL FOR 5 MINUTES. POLICE GUIDED TO A HALT, RESTARTED CAR AND BRAKES WORKED. MADE IT HOME. BRAKES FAILED 3 TIMES THE NEXT DAY. FORD SAID THEY COULD NOT LOOK AT THE VEHICLE FOR 3 WEEKS BECAUSE THEY WERE SO BUSY SO I HAD TO RENT A VEHICLE. $1750 TO REPLACE BRAKE SENSORS WHICH THEY SAID COULD NOT COMMUNICATE WITH THE BRAKES.?? FIRST TIME FORD HAS BEEN ABLE TO DIAGNOSE SYSTEM.

DEALER DIAGNOSED AND REPLACED ABS UNIT. THERE WAS AN OPEN NHTSA INVESTIGATION THAT DESCRIBED MY PROBLEM EXACTLY AND BLAMES A STUCK VALVE IN THE ABS CONTROLLER. APPARENTLY THERE WAS A COATING THAT GETS STICKY FROM BRAKE FLUID. FORD SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO PAY FOR AND FIX THIS SERIOUS SAFETY DEFECT.

THE DEALER ALSO INDICATED THAT THERE WAS NO OPTION OF A LOANER VEHICLE DUE TO A LIMITED SUPPLY. IN ADDITION, WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL, IT TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY BRAKE SYSTEM RECALLS. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.

TWO MECHANICS HAVE DISAGREED ON WHAT THE PROBLEM IS, YOU HAVE AN OPEN INVESTIGATION ON 2008-9 MODELS BUT THIS APPEARS TO BE HAPPENING ON 2010S AND NEWER MODELS AS WELL. WE DO NOT KNOW IF OUR CAR IS SAFE TO DRIVE AND FORD APPEARS TO NOT HAVE A FIX FOR THE PROBLEM. INDEED, THEY APPEAR TO NOT EVEN BE ACKNOWLEDGING THE PROBLEM AS FAR AS I CAN TELL. CAR REQUIRED EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP NARROWLY AVOIDING COLLISION. CAR IS CURRENTLY RESIDING AT MOYER FORD DEALERSHIP IN FOLEY, AL. DEALER STATES TO ME THAT THIS WAS A "BRAKE PEDAL ASSEMBLY FAILURE." BRAKE FAILURE OCCURRED WITH NO WARNING ON CITY STREET WHILE CAR WAS TRAVELING STRIAGHT. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC PRESENT AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS USED TO SLOW THE CAR YO A STOP. AFTER RESTARTING, THE DASH "ABS" AND "BRAKE PROBLEM" LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE CAR FROM THIS POINT HAD VIRUTUALLY ZERO BRAKING AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A FORD DEALER FOR INSPECTION, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ABS MODULE HAD GONE BAD AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. ALTHOUGH THE PART CAN BE REPLACED, IT WON'T FIX THE PROBLEM. IT APPEARS THE ABS MODULE DESIGN AND BRAKE SYSTEM LOGIC FOR THE FUSION IS FLAWED. EXAMINATION OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM SCHEMATICS INDICATES THERE IS NO OVERRIDE FOR THE SYSTEM IF THE ABS MODULE FAILS. WHEN THIS OCCURS, AS IT DID FOR US, THE CAR'S BRAKES COMPETE WITH THE ABS SYSTEM CAUSING AN ALMOST COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKING. OUR FAMILY WAS FORTUNATE THAT WE WERE NOT TRAVELING ON A BUSY STREET OR HIGHWAY. THE POTENTIAL FOR DAMAGE AND INJURY WAS SIGNIFICANTLY HIGH, NOT JUST TO MY FAMILY BUT TO OTHERS AS WELL. I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK IN HOUSTON, TX AND SUDDENLY THE BRAKES FAILED FOR THE 2ND TIME IN A WEEK. THE CAR WAS ON, DROVE AND STEERED FINE, BUT THERE WERE NO POWER BRAKES. IT WAS AS IF A MANUAL TRANSMISSION CAR HAD STALLED, BUT EVEN WORSE. AN ERROR LIGHT CAME ON THE LEFT PANEL SAYING "CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM" AND THE PARKING BRAKE LIGHT WAS ON. I CALLED FORD AND EXPLAIN THE PROBLEM AND THEY ADVISED ME TO TAKE TO THE FORD DEALER FOR SERVICING. THEY'VE, OF COURSE, NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM AND CAN'T BELIEVE IT HAPPENED. IT SOUNDS TO ME LIKE A COMPUTER / ELECTRONIC PROBLEM. FORD KEPT THE CAR FOR 2 DAYS IN THEIR GARAGE AND THEY DROVE IT AROUND AND RUN THEY DIAGNOSTICS AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND OUT ANY CODE OR PROBLEM AND THEY CANNOT HELP. I TOOK THE CAR OUT AND DROVE FOR 3 DAYS AND IT WAS FINE BUT ON THE 4TH DAY THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. BREAK FAILED TO WORK AND COME UP WITH 'AN ERROR LIGHT CAME ON THE LEFT PANEL SAYING "CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM" AND THE PARKING BRAKE LIGHT WAS ON'. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME OUR CAR WILL BE GOING TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A SERIOUS BRAKE ISSUE. THE FIRST TIME IT OCCURRED WAS IN SEPTEMBER OF 2015. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET WHEN THE CAR BRAKES STOPPED FUNCTIONING AS USUAL. THE DRIVER HAD TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES TO GET THE CAR TO STOP. THE CHECK BRAKE AND SERVICE LIGHTS CAME ON. THE BRAKES NO LONGER FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE. IT HAPPENED AGAIN IN MAY OF 2016 WHEN THE CAR STARTED IN THE DRIVEWAY. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM, WHICH WAS PRINTED OUT AND TAKEN TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP WAS ABLE TO ISOLATE THE PROBLEM THIS TIME AND FIX IT. THE CAR WAS FUNCTIONAL AGAIN. TODAY, THE ISSUE HAPPENED YET AGAIN. AS THE CAR STARTED WHILE STATIONARY, THE CAR DINGED AND THE CHECK BRAKE AND SYSTEM LIGHTS CAME ON. FEARING A USER ERROR, THE DRIVER RESTARTED THE CAR AND IT SEEMED FINE. AS THE DRIVER DROVE DOWN THE RESIDENTIAL BLOCK, THE BRAKES BECAME UNRESPONSIVE AND THE SYSTEM LIGHTS CAME BACK ON. THE DRIVER HAD TO PRESS VERY HARD ON THE BRAKES TO AVOID RUNNING A STOP SIGN AND INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC ON A NEIGHBORING STREET. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER.

I WAS TOLD THAT BECAUSE I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES IT CAUSED AN INTERNAL FAULT WITH THE ABS MODULE. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT DID NOT SEEM CONCERNED THAT THE BRAKES HAD FAILED AND I WAS TOLD THAT SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES COULD TYPICALLY CAUSE THIS TYPE OF FAILURE WITH THE COMPUTER SYSTEM.

I WAS DRIVING TO WORK, WHICH DOES NOT REQUIRE FOR ME TO TAKE THE HIGHWAY, AND AT A FOUR-WAY STOP I TRIED TO STOP MY 2010 FORD FUSION HYBRID CAR BY USING THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT DID NOT STOP THE CAR AT ALL, BUT ITS PUMP-ACTION WAS STILL THERE. LUCKILY THERE WERE NO CARS AT THE FOUR-WAY STOP. IF THERE WERE CARS THERE, I COULD HAVE GOTTEN INTO A CAR ACCIDENT, EVEN WORSE IF I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY. WHEN THE BRAKE ISSUE OCCURRED, THE FOLLOWING TWO SYSTEM ERROR CODES APPEARED ON MY DASHBOARD: 1.) "(!) BRAKE CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM" AND (2) "SERVICE ADVANCETRAC". AT THE SAME TIME THAT THESE TWO SYSTEM ERROR CODES APPEARED, THERE WERE FIVE WARNING LIGHTS THAT APPEARED: 1.) ADVANCETRAC/TRACTION CONTROL OFF LIGHT (AKA ORANGE-YELLOW CAR W/ TIRE MARKS OFF) 2.) ADVANCETRAC/TRACTION CONTROL (AKA ORANGE-YELLOW CAR W/ TIRE MARKS SYMBOL) 3.) BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT (AKA RED !(P) BRAKE) 4.) ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (AKA "ABS" SYMBOL) WARNING LIGHT 5.) ON THE UPPER LEFT-HAND CORNER TO THE LEFT OF THE SYSTEM ERROR CODE "(!) BRAKE CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM" A LITTLE (!) BRAKE SYMBOL APPEARED. I HAVE A PICTURE OF ALL OF THESE SYSTEM ERROR CODES AND LIGHTS. SO, THEN I USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE HANDLE STICK TO STOP THE CAR AND THAT HELPED ONLY TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN BY 20%, BUT NOT ENOUGH TO STOP THE CAR. I LEFT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON AND DID NOT USE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO SLOW DOWN THE CAR. THE CAR SLOWED DOWN TO A SLOW STOP AFTER 1-2 MINUTES AFTER DRIVING OVER SOME SPEED BUMPS DRIVING AT 30-35 MPH. WHEN IT STOPPED, I RESTARTED THE CAR TO SEE IF THAT WOULD FIX THE ISSUE AND IT DID NOT. SO I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL VERY LIGHTLY WITHOUT USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND GOT TO A SPEED OF LESS THAN 10 MPH TO GET TO WORK BECAUSE I WAS ALMOST THERE. WHEN I SLOWLY DRIFTED INTO MY WORK'S PARKING LOT, I IMMEDIATELY USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AGAIN TO GET THE CAR TO STOP.

I HAD JUST STOPPED TO LET A COUPLE OF CARS PASS ON THE NARROW ROAD AND AS I PROCEEDED INTO A 90 DEGREE DOWNHILL TURN, THE BRAKES FAILED, CAUSING A CRASH. THERE WAS NO BRAKING WHATSOEVER. I HAD ONLY 2 OR 3 SECONDS BEFORE THE TURN AND MANAGED TO AVOID GOING OFF OF A CLIFF ONLY NARROWLY, BY RUNNING UP A EARTHEN BANK AND OVER A LARGE BOULDER, WHICH STOPPED THE CAR. THE CONSUMER REPORTS TEST DRIVER HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE WHEN TEST DRIVING THE CAR IN 2010.

REPLACEMENT MODULE ORDERED; TO BE INSTALLED. SIMILAR SYMPTOMS REPORTED BY PLETHORA OF OTHER 2010 FORD FUSION HYBRID OWNERS. FORD ISSUED CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 10B13 FOR SIMILAR PROBLEMS IN THE PAST. FORD CORPORATE WAS CALLED, AND A CASE NUMBER PROVIDED. AFTER PROVIDING VIN NUMBER IT WAS STATED MY VEHICLE DID NOT FALL WITHIN THE GUIDELINES OF THE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM EVEN THOUGH I EXPERIENCED THE SYMPTOMS OF THOSE WHO DID. I WAS DIRECTED TO FURTHER ADDRESS THE ISSUE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE MY VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED.

THE DEALERSHIP ULTIMATELY PROVIDED EXCELLENT SERVICE REPLACING THE "ASB MODULE", BUT I FEEL THAT IT IS UNSAFE FOR A CAR'S BRAKES AND POWER STEERING TO FAIL SUDDENLY, EVEN AT LOW SPEEDS, AND UNEXPECTED THAT A 4 YEAR OLD CAR WITH LESS THAN 40,000 MILES WOULD HAVE SUCH A FAILURE. I LIVE NEAR A PARK. IF SOMEONE HAD DECIDED TO SUDDENLY CROSS THE STREET WITH A STROLLER, A KID HAD RUN INTO THE STREET AFTER A BALL, OR SOMEONE ELSE HAD DARTED IN FRONT OF THE CAR, I WOULD HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO MAKE THE NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS TO AVOID AN AUTO ON PERSON CRASH. *TR

THEN A MONTH LATER AFTER DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 BLOCKS THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN THE ADVANCE TRAC WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND I HAD NO BRAKES AGAIN. I STOPPED THE CAR BY DEPRESSING THE BRAKES EXTREMELY HARD AND SHUT IT OFF AND THEN THEY WORKED FINE AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALER. THEY FOUND SEVERAL CODES BUT COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND CHARGED ME $150 AND FIXED NOTHING. THEY SAID THEY COULD CHANGE SEVERAL DIFFERENT PARTS BUT WOULD BE COSTLY AND MIGHT NOT BE THE CORRECT PART. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR

THE CAR DID THE EXACT THING AGAIN TURNING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY ON 1-5-15. STOPPED AND RESTARTED CAR AND IT WENT BACK TO NORMAL. THIS IS NOT SAFE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. COLUMBIA FORD SAID THEY UPGRADED THE COMPUTER BACK IN SEPT OF 2010. WHEN WE ORIGINALLY PURCHASED THIS CAR, THE ELECTRONIC BRAKES HAD FAILED 3 TIMES IN THE FIRST FEW MONTHS OF OWNING IT. THIS IS NOW THE 4TH TIME THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN LOST ON THE CAR. TODAY COLUMBIA FORD STATED THEY WILL DO A DIAGNOSES FOR $120.00, BUT THEY MAY NOT EVEN BE ABLE TO RECREATE THE ISSUE BUT WILL STILL CHARGE US. WHEN WE ORIGINALLY HAD THE PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES IN 2010 THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE IT. EVENTUALLY, WE WERE PROVEN CORRECT WHEN SOMEONE FROM FORD HEADQUARTERS GOT INVOLVED AND DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM. WE WOULD LIKE FORD HEADQUARTERS TO GET INVOLVED AGAIN AND HOPEFULLY FIX THE ELECTRONIC BRAKES FREE OF CHARGE, OR FOR A VERY SMALL FEE. WE DON'T KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY OTHER 2010 FORD FUSION HYBRIDS WITH OVER 100,000 MILES BUT MAYBE IF SOMEONE AT FORD LOOKS INTO THIS ISSUE SO WE CAN AVOID A TRAGEDY. MAYBE THE SOFTWARE UPGRADE NEEDS AN ADDITIONAL UPGRADE NOW THAT THE CAR IS OVER 100,000 MILES? ON 1/6/14 AND 1/7/14, THE BRAKE WARNING SIGN WOULD BRIEFLY LIGHT UP IN THE UPPER LEFT END OF THE DASHBOARD. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP CHANGED OIL AND FILTER AND PERFORMED A MULTI-POINT INSPECTION ON 1/8/14 AND FOUND NO BREAK PROBLEM. ON 1/31/14, WHILE ON CRUISE CONTROL AT 55 MPH, THE CAR STARTED DECELERATING TO 50, 45 AND 40 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY IN JUST A FEW SECONDS; I DID NOT HAVE TIME TO READ THE WARNING SIGNAL AND I ONLY SAW THE WORD "BREAK." I WAS ABLE TO RESUME MY DRIVING WITHOUT ANY FURTHER INCIDENCE. A SIMILAR DECELERATION INCIDENT HAPPENED ON 2/3/14. THE WARNING SIGNAL WAS LONGER AND I THOUGHT I READ IN THE UPPER LEFT END OF THE DASHBOARD: "BRAKE PAD ENGAGED." THE LOCAL DEALER CHECKED THE BREAK SYSTEM AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT CONTACTED THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY THAT HAD NO CLUE ABOUT THE PROBLEM. ANOTHER SIMILAR DECELERATION INCIDENT HAPPENED AGAIN ON 2/11/14. THE WARNING SIGNAL WAS LONGER AND READ:" PARK BRAKE ENGAGED." THE BRAKE SIGNAL ALSO CAME ON IN THE LOWER RIGHT END OF THE DASHBOARD. AGAIN, I WAS ABLE TO COMPLETE MY DRIVE AND LATER DRIVE BACK (ONE HOUR) TO THE LOCAL DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENCE. ON 2/12/14, THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT NOTIFIED ME THAT IT DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG AND "HEADQUARTERS" IS SAYING THAT IT NEEDS TO SEE THE WARNING SIGNAL (THAT LASTS ONLY A FEW SECONDS TO ONE MINUTE). I AM TELLING THEM THAT I WANT TO DRIVE A SAFE CAR AND NOT HAVE IT SUDDENLY DECELERATE IN FRONT OF A SEMI-TRUCK. THE CAR IS STILL IN THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT. MONDAY, JAN. 27 - POWER SUDDENLY GAVE OUT WHEN ACCELERATING ON FREEWAY. SERVICE WRENCH HAD BEEN ON EARLIER THAT DAY BUT HAD GONE OFF. DIXON FORD TOLD US IT WAS OK TO DRIVE. I WAS IN LEFT LANE AND HAD TO CROSS 5 LANES TO GET TO MEDIAN. TOOK IT IN TO WALNUT CREEK FORD AND THEY "RE-FLASHED IT", SAYING NO CONCERN WAS PRESENT AT THE TIME. THEY GAVE THE DANGEROUS CAR BACK TO US FRI, JAN 31ST 130 MILES DRIVEN IN 2ND LANE (ONE FROM CARPOOL LANE) AT 65 MPH ACCEL LIGHTLY SUDDENLY, CAR'S GAS GAVE OUT, LIKE BEFORE THE ROAD CURVED TO RIGHT. TRY TO STEER CAR RIGHT TO FOLLOW LANE AS CAR DECEL NOTICED THAT STEERING NOT RESPONDING, EVEN TO STRONGEST INPUTS (ALMOST LIKE LOCKED, LIKE CAR WAS OFF) TRIED TO HIT BRAKES, BUT PEDAL SANK TO FLOOR NO RESPONSE REGARDLESS OF PRESSURE. KEPT PRESSURE BUT CAR DID NOT SLOW BEGAN TO DRIFT PASSENGER GRABBED WHEEL ALSO AND TRIED TO PULL RIGHT. GRADUALLY STARTED TO GO RIGHT, BUT WITH EXTREME FORCE APPLIED. AFTER FORCE, WHEEL AT MOST 5 DEGREES TURN EMERGENCY BRAKE TO SLOW (NOT STOP) STEERING CORRECTIONS COULD NOT SUFFICIENTLY TURN CAR SO CAR SLAMMED INTO CONCRETE MEDIAN AT 50 MPH TIGHTENED EMERGENCY BRAKE AND CONTINUED TO PULL ON THE WHEEL SLID ALONG MEDIAN AS CAR SCREECHED CAR FINALLY STOPPED ON THE LEFT SIDE OF FREEWAY GEAR SELECTOR LOCKED IN DRIVE TURNED OFF THE ENGINE WHILE THE SELECTOR WAS STILL IN PARK. RESPONDING CHP OFFICER K. ALLEMAN ASKED US TO DRIVE CAR TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FREEWAY COULD NOT START CAR. TURNED KEY 3 TIMES BUT CAR REFUSED TO RESPOND. GETTING VERY HOT IN THE CAR, JUST LIKE MON, PROB 95 -100 AMBIENT TEMP AGAIN WHEN EXT. TEMP. 58 FINALLY ABLE TO SELECT NEUTRAL AND RELEASE PARKING BRAKE. IN AUGUST 2013 I EXPERIENCED COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE ON MY 2010 FORD FUSION HYBRID. AS I WAS DRIVING OUT OF A PARKING LOT MY BRAKES FAILED, AND ALL OF MY WARNING INDICATORS ON THE ELECTRONIC DASHBOARD LIT UP. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE BACK INTO THE PARKING LOT AND COAST TO FULL STOP. THE INCIDENT IS EXACTLY WHAT WAS DESCRIBED BY ANOTHER OWNER WHO POSTED THIS DESCRIPTION, WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME: "WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE BRAKES SUDDENLY HIT THE FLOOR AND THERE WAS NO MINIMUM RESISTANCE." THERE WAS A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM INITIATED BY FORD FOR THE FORD FUSION HYBRID MADE ON OR BEFORE OCTOBER 17, 2009. MY FORD FUSION HYBRID WAS MADE IN NOVEMBER 2009, WHICH MAKES ME BELIEVE THE FIX WAS NOT INITIATED ON MODELS MADE JUST AFTER THE CSP! I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE THIS. I HAD TO HAVE MY EMC AND HCU REPLACED. I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW IN JANUARY 2011, 2 1/2 YEARS LATER I AM HAVING THESE ISSUES, WHICH I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED WITH ANY OTHER VEHICLE I HAVE EVER OWNED. I THINK FORD IS AWARE OF THESE ISSUES, AND ARE NOT RECALLING THE VEHICLES THAT ARE STILL AFFECTED. I FEEL LUCKY I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR OFF THE ROAD SAFELY WITHOUT GETTING INTO AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. ON 1/1712013 I WAS DRIVING BACK TO MY OFFICE IN LIGHT TRAFFIC WHEN SUDDENLY I HEARD A DING AND NOTICED RED WORDS APPEARED ON MY DASH WHERE THE HYBRID GAUGE NORMALLY IS. IT READ BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE. I HAD IT TOWED FROM MY MECHANIC TO THE DEALERSHIP MECHANIC. I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE VACUUM HOSE AND HAD IT REPAIRED. ON 2/15/2013, IT HAPPENED AGAIN, TWICE. FIRST TIME I WAS GOING ABOUT 30MPH AND MADE A HARD RIGHT TURN TO A SIDE STREET WHERE ONCE AGAIN PUMPING THE BRAKES DID NOTHING. I SWITCHED TO NEUTRAL AND COASTED TO A STOP. AFTER 10 MINUTES I DECIDED TO DRIVE HOME AND I WOULD CALL THE MECHANICS IN THE MORNING (THEY WERE ALREADY CLOSED). EN ROUTE TO MY HOUSE, WHICH WAS 3 MILES FROM THE FAILURE POINT, THEY FAILED AGAIN. SAME MESSAGE, SAME DING, SAME PROBLEM. NO BRAKE POWER OF ANY SORT. I FLIPPED ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS ON, SWITCHED TO NEUTRAL, WHICH DID SLIGHTLY SLOW THE CAR DOWN, AND ROLLED DOWN A BRIDGE. I TOOK THE FIRST HARD RIGHT TURN AND WAS ABLE TO GET SLOW ENOUGH TO GRAB THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND TURN OFF THE CAR. IT HAS BEEN TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND I WILL TALK TO THEM, AGAIN, IN THE MORNING WHEN THEY OPEN. *TR
