My car has approximately 110,000 miles on it. For the last 6 months, I've been getting alerts on my dashboard ("Service Advance Trak", "Hill Start Not Available", and one or two others). This happens at slow speeds and when turning. When these alerts start, I lose power steering. I've also noticed that when I apply brakes at slow speeds, the ABS engages for a few seconds. I was told by the dealer that it was the engine control module. I had it replaced and reprogrammed. However, the alerts and loss of power steering still happens though not as much.

THE CAR WAS STATIONARY THIS MORNING WHEN I WENT AND OPENED THE DOOR, BUT WHEN I TRIED TO CLOSE I NOTICE THE DOOR STAYS LOOSE OPEN.

WHEN THE PARKING BRAKE IS ON, THE BRAKE PEDAL MUST BE APPLIED AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ELECTRONIC SWITCH PRESSED TO DISENGAGE. THE PARKING BRAKE. THE INDICATOR LIGHT NOT ILLUMINATING INITIALLY CAUSED CONFUSION AND WORRY THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO TROUBLESHOOT AND REPRODUCE THE ISSUE AT WILL.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EVENTUALLY ABLE TO STOP AFTER DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOORBOARD. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND WORKED FINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT TEST DRIVEN. THE MECHANIC DISCOVERED THAT THERE WERE NO BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO GARNET FORD (1610 WILMINGTON PIKE, WEST CHESTER, PA 19382 (610) 358-5600) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT RODENTS CHEWED THE BODY HARNESS, WHICH NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND A CASE WAS OPENED. THE CONTACT RESEARCHED THE FAILURE ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THE WIRES WERE MADE WITH A SOY MATERIAL THAT ATTRACTED RODENTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,711. CALLED FORD ROAD SERVICE AND CAR WAS DRAGGED OUT OF MY GARAGE AND ONTO A FLAT BED AND TAKEN TO MY DEALERSHIP. CAR HAS BEEN IN SHOP FOR A WEEK NOW AND STILL NO DIAGNOSIS. NO MATTER WHAT THEY DO, THE CAR IS DRAWING POWER WHEN IT IS TURNED OFF AND KILLS THE BATTERY IN 2 HOURS. THEY ARE WORKING WITH FORD SYSTEM WIDE AND NO ONE HAS SEEN THIS TYPE OF FAULT YET. TO ME IT SEEMS TO BE SOME KIND OF SOFTWARE FAULT BUT PER FORD TROUBLESHOOTING, THEY HAVE TO TEAR MY CAR APART AND CHECK EVERY WIRE AND FUSE BEFORE LOOKING AT THE SOFTWARE ISSUES.
