The contact owns a 2006 Ford Fusion. The contact became aware of an oil leak on the ground underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that oil was leaking from the engine. The mechanic was unsure where the leak originated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but provided no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 108,000.

There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired on several occasions due to the failure. The contact stated that each summer after the vehicle was repaired, the failure returned. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. 2006 FORD FUSION: WHEN DRIVING AFTER THE CAR GETS WARM UP IT IS STARTS SLIPPING AND SHIFTING SOMEONE HARSHLY LIKE IT JUST GOT KICKED. I WAS ON THE FREEWAY AND COULDN'T SPEED UP ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED. I SEE OTHERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AFTER DOING A SEARCH I FOUND DIFFERENT ANSWER AS WHAT COULD BE WRONG. FOUND OUT WHAT THE ISSUE IS WITH THE AISIN TRANSMISSIONS SLIPPING WHICH WERE USED IN THE 2006 FUSION. IT IS DUE TO VALVE BORE WEAR IN THE MAIN CONTROL. IF THE TRANS FLUID ISNT BURNT (MEANING THERE IS INTERNAL TRANS CLUTCH DAMAGE) THEN YOU ARE LOOKING AT $800-$1000 TO REPLACE THE MAIN CONTROL. IF THE CLUTCHES ARE BURNT THE WHOLE TRANS WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED COST??? SOMETHING LIKE $4000-$5000. THE PROBLEM IS THAT WHEN FORD BOUGHT THE AISIN TRANS, FORD DID NOT BUY THE SERVICE RIGHTS. SO THERE ARE NO SERVICE PARTS AVAILABLE OR TRAINING AVAIL ON HOW TO SERVICE THIS TRANS. THE ISSUE WITH THE MAIN CONTROL HAS BEEN SO COMMON THAT AISIN HAS AGREED TO SUPPLY FORD WITH SERVICE MAIN CONTROLS.THERE HAS BEEN A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN OUT THERE. THERMOSTAT STICKS OPEN (COLD) WHILE DRIVING. SUDDEN JUMPS TO NORMAL TEMPERATURE RANGE FOLLOWED BY DROP TO COLD AGAIN. VEHICLE HAS HARD TIME STARTING WHEN TEMPERATURE GAUGE IS ON COLD MARK AFTER RUNNING FOR ANY PERIOD OF TIME. THERMOSTAT HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH NO IMPROVEMENT. THROTTLE STICKS ON ACCELERATION CAUSING ENGINE TO BOG DOWN AND ALMOST CHOKE OUT FOLLOWED BY SUDDEN BURST OF ACCELERATION THAT COULD LEAD TO ACCIDENT.

WHILE DRIVING THE CAR ON THE HIGHWAY AT TYPICAL HIGHWAY SPEEDS (60MPH-70MPH) THE WRENCH INDICATOR LIGHT COMES ON IN THE DASHBOARD AND THE CAR LOOSES THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE ANY FASTER THAN ABOUT 10 MILES AN HOUR. WE PULL OVER, TURN THE CAR OFF AND START IT BACK UP AGAIN AND IT APPEARS TO RUN FINE. THIS CAN HAPPEN RANDOMLY ONE DAY AND THEN NOT HAPPEN AGAIN FOR A FEW WEEKS OR EVEN A MONTH OR TWO THEN IT DOES IT AGAIN. BASED ON MY RESEARCH COMPARING OTHER DRIVERS POSTING ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM I BELIEVE THIS PROBLEM IS DUE TO A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY OR WHAT IS SOMETIMES CALLED THE ETB = ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. THE PROBLEM IS THE RESULT OF THE COMPUTER AND SENSORS SENDING BAD SIGNALS TO THE THROTTLE BODY MECHANISM WHICH THEN AFFECTS THE AIR/GAS MIXTURE AND ADVERSELY AFFECTS ACCELERATION, THIS IS DANGEROUS AND A SAFETY ISSUE. THERE WAS A RECALL ON DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODIES FOR FORD FUSIONS BUT IT ONLY INCLUDED 2009 MODELS AND LATER MODELS, BUT IT DID NOT INCLUDE 2006 MODELS. I HAVE READ OF OTHER PEOPLE IN EARLIER MODEL CARS FROM AS EARLY AS 2005 POSTING ON FORUMS THAT THEY HAD THE SAME ISSUE, SO I BELIEVE THIS WASN'T ONLY A PROBLEM ON 2009'S AND LATER. FORD ISSUES AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE FUSION OF TEN YEARS OR 150,000 MILES. I DON'T KNOW THE NAME OF THE SPECIFIC RECALL OTHER THAN A REFERENCE TO CONSUMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 13N03. THE PROBLEM SOMETIMES IS REFERRED AS THE "LIMP HOME" MODE. IN CONCLUSION, I WOULD LIKE OUR 2006 FORD FUSION TO BE INCLUDED OR QUALIFIED IN THE RECALL SO I CAN FIX THIS PROBLEM OR AT LEAST GET REIMBURSED ONCE I GET IT FIXED SINCE IT IS A DEFECT WITH THE CAR.

I HAVE TO PUT IT IN PARK. AND RESTART IT. "CHECK ENGINE" AND "CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM" INDICATOR LIGHTS POP UP ON THE DASH. I HAVE DONE SEVERAL THINGS, CHANGE BELTS, CHANGED ALTERNATORS, CHANGED CAM SHAFTS, AND FINALLY AFTER THAT THOUSAND DOLLARS WAS SPENT THE CODE I'M GETTING READ FROM MY MECHANIC IS FOR THE THROTTLE BODY SHUT DOWN.

IT LEFT THE PARKING LOT, CROSSED A SIDEWALK AND WENT ONTO A STREET NEAR AN INTERSECTION. I KEPT APPLYING THE BRAKES, BUT CAR STILL WOULDN'T STOP. IT COLLIDED WITH AN ONCOMING CAR, CROSSED OVER A MEDIAN AND FINALLY STOPPED ON ANOTHER STREET ACROSS FROM THE INTERSECTION.

INTERIOR FRONT DOOR LATCHES BROKE AROUND THE 100,000 MILEAGE. ALL FOUR ELECTRIC WINDOW REGULATORS/MOTOR HAVE FAILED FROM THE 80,000-110,000 MILEAGE PERIOD. EACH OF THE REGULATORS PLASTIC ROLLERS WHERE THE CABLE GOES AROUND WERE BROKEN. TWO OF THE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS QUIT WORKING AS WELL. ALL MOTOR MOUNTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AT LEAST ONCE AND 2 HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE EACH. 4-CYLINDER. I HAVE SEEN 100'S OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THE MOTOR MOUNTS AND MANY FOR THE INTERIOR LATCHES AND WINDOW REGULATORS. I HAVE SPENT OVER A THOUSAND DOLLARS ON THE MOTOR MOUNT ISSUES.

OUR FORD FUSION ENGINE SUDDENLY STARTED DYING IN TRAFFIC. WHEN STOPPING AT A LIGHT OR STOP SIGN IN TRAFFIC, THE IDLE WOULD DROP BELOW 5000 RPMS, THEN SUDDENLY THE ENGINE WOULD DIE. AFTER PLACING THE VEHICLE IN PARK, WE WOULD HAVE TO RESTART THE ENGINE. USUALLY WOULD DIE AFTER SITTING STILL AFTER ABOUT 10 SECONDS. SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T START BACKUP RIGHT AWAY, SO WE WERE STUCK ON THE ROAD UNTIL IT FINALLY DECIDED TO START. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR WRENCH WOULD DISPLAY. WE TOOK IT IN TO FORD DEALER AND THEY DETERMINED THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE. APPARENTLY THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH MOST FORD FUSIONS, AS WELL AS OTHER MODELS THAT USE THE SAME THROTTLE BODY. WHILE REVERSING OUT OF MY PARKING SPOT AT WORK THE OTHER DAY, THE CAR COMPLETELY STALLED WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE GAS PEDAL. I WAS THANKFUL THAT NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME BECAUSE THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. I PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTARTED IT EASILY, BUT I WAS TOO NERVOUS TO DRIVE ON A HIGHWAY AFTER THE INCIDENT, AS THERE WAS NO INDICATION THE FIRST TIME THAT THE CAR WAS GOING TO SHUT DOWN. I DROVE DOWN A COUNTRY ROAD WITH MY FLASHERS ON UNTIL I GOT TO A SAFE PLACE WHERE I COULD CALL MY HUSBAND. WHILE I WAITED FOR HIM TO COME GET ME, I KEPT THE CAR IN IDLE AND RAN THE HEATER. THE CAR SHUT DOWN AGAIN, AND THIS TIME I WAS ABLE TO TAKE A PICTURE OF THE WARNING LIGHTS THAT ACCOMPANIED THE FAILURE. (SEE ATTACHED.) THE DASH SAID "CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM" AND THE OIL, EMISSIONS, AND BATTERY LIGHTS CAME ON. WE CALLED AND HAD IT TOWED TO A LOCAL SHOP BUT MAN THERE HAS NO IDEA WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND TOLD US TO TOW IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. MY CAR HAS OVER 100,000 MILES, BUT I HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH IT SINCE I BOUGHT IT. I HAVE HAD MECHANICS TELL ME THAT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK WELL. I HAVE ALSO HAD THEM TELL ME THAT IT IS NORMAL FOR THE AIR-CONDITIONER IN THESE CARS TO JUST TURN ON RANDOMLY TO COOL THE ENGINE, WHICH MINE DOES FREQUENTLY. MOREOVER, THE BATTERY IN THE CAR NOW IS THE THIRD ONE I'VE HAD. BRAKE LIGHTS BURN OUT CONSTANTLY, AND THE TRANSMISSION MAKES TERRIBLE NOISES WHEN I START THE CAR AND PARTICULARLY WHEN I REVERSE. THIS NEW PROBLEM OF STOPPING UNEXPECTEDLY IS SIMPLY UNACCEPTABLE. I HATE TO GIVE UP MY FUSION BECAUSE WHEN IT'S RUNNING CORRECTLY, IT'S A GREAT CAR; HOWEVER, THIS LAST INSTANCE IS JUST TOO DANGEROUS. IF I WERE ON THE HIGHWAY, I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. THIS SAME THING HAS HAPPENED TO FRIENDS OF MINE WHO OWNED FORDS. I WILL BE CALLING FORD AND ASKING THEM ABOUT THROTTLE BODY AND PCM PROBLEMS THAT OTHERS HAVE NOTED IN THEIR COMPLAINTS.

WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND ROADWAY, SUCH AS BRIDGES THIS SUMMER, MY VEHICLE STALLED SEVERAL TIMES, LOST POWER COMING ALMOST TO A COMPLETE STOP, PUTTING MY FAMILY AND I AT RISK. WHEN I PRESSED ON THE GAS TO ACCELERATE, THE ENGINE BEGIN TO RACE, CAUSING THE "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" TO COME ON. IT ALSO JERKED AND SKIDDED AS I TRIED TO MANEUVER THE STEERING. TO AVOID ACCIDENTS ON THESE OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE PULLED OVER AND SUBSEQUENTLY, PARKED. HIGHWAY DRIVING WAS ALSO AVOIDED MOST OF THE SUMMER FOR SAFETY AND CONCERN. THIS VEHICLE LOSE POWER AND SLOWS DOWN, IT HAPPENED ON THE EXPRESS WAY MORE THAN 5 TIMES. I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED BY A SEMI TRUCK. I ONLY DRIVE IT ON SIDE STREETS NOW. THE FACTORY IGNITION COILS BEGAN TO SHORT AGAINST THE INTERIOR WALLS OF THE ENGINE HEAD ABOVE THE SPARK PLUGS. AS THEY SHORTED IT BURN THE POWER CONTROL MODULE (PCM). WITH NO PCM MY SPARK PLUGS FAILED TO LIGHT, CAUSING MY ENGINE BECOME FLOODED WITH GASOLINE, WHICH WASHED AWAY THE LUBRICANTS ON MY CYLINDER AND HEADS CAUSING ALL OF MY CYLINDERS AND HEADS TO BECOME DAMAGED. AS THIS HAPPENED BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER MY ENGINE SHUT OFF. CAUSING ME TO LOSE POWER STEERING AND ALL OF THE OTHER ELECTRICAL FUNCTIONING COMPONENTS. DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 5 EVENING COMMUTE, GOING UP A HILL WHEN THE ENGINE LOST POWER, REACHING A MAXIMUM SPEED OF 20MPH WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL PRESSED DOWN FULLY. THE ESC LIGHT AND A "WRENCH" LIGHT BOTH ILLUMINATED. WAS ABLE TO SAFELY EXIT THE INTERSTATE AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. AFTER A FEW MINUTES I RESTARTED WITH THE AFOREMENTIONED LIGHTS REMAINING OFF. VEHICLE RAN FINE. TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALER THE NEXT DAY AND WAS TOLD THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED, WHICH I REJECTED AT THE TIME. THE VEHICLE RAN FINE UNTIL 1 DAY PAST A YEAR FROM THE FIRST INCIDENT (JUNE 26, 2014). THE SAME THING HAPPENED TWICE, ONCE AT 60MPH AND AGAIN AT 40MPH. IT OCCURRED AGAIN ON JUNE 27, 2014, HOWEVER THIS TIME FROM A STOP. I BEGAN TO ACCELERATE FROM THE STOP SIGN AND BARELY MADE IT ACROSS THE INTERSECTION. EACH OCCURRENCE I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED, THE VEHICLE RAN FINE. I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH IT SINCE I BOUGHT IT, IT HAS PROBLEMS STARTING ESPECIALLY WHEN ITS COLD OUTSIDE. CAR STARTED MISFIRING WHILE ACCELERATING ABOUT A MONTH AGO. SOMETIMES THE KICK WAS SO MUCH IT FELT LIKE GETTING REAR ENDED. MY FORD FUSION V6 SEL HAS BEEN SLIPPING SINCE 50,000 MILES. I HAVE HAD 2 MINOR TRANSMISSION CHANGES WITHIN THE PAST 3 YEARS. TODAY ME AND MY KIDS WERE DRIVING ABOUT 20-35 MPH AROUND TOWN WHEN THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED. THE CAR WOULD NOT RESPOND TO ACCELERATING ON THE GAS PEDAL. I TRIED PLACING THE CAR INTO LOW GEAR, REVERSE WITH NOTHING HAPPENING. THIS WAS ON A BUSY INTERSECTION, THE CAR FINAL AFTER FORCING ME AND MY KIDS TO JERK FORWARD STARTED TO WORK AGAIN. EACH TIME I STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT THE CAR TOOK 1-2 MINUTES TO RISE ABOVE 20 MPH. I FINALLY MADE IT TO MY HOUSE WHICH HAS A SMALL SLANT ON THE DRIVE WAY AND THE CAR STRUGGLED JUST TO MAKE IT IN THE GARAGE. THIS WAS THE MOST EMBARRASSING DAY OF MY LIFE!!!! THE CAR CLEARLY IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND EACH TIME I LOOK UP TSB'S I SEE MORE AND MORE 2006-11 FORD FUSION POSTINGS. BEING A FORD FAN MY WHOLE LIFE I MUST SAY IF NOTHING IS DONE WITH THIS COMPLAINT I WILL NO LONGER SUPPORT FORD AND WILL ENCOURAGE OTHER NOT TO AS WELL.
