The contact owns a 2008 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that there was a squealing sound coming from underneath the dashboard. The vehicle was hard shifting while accelerating or while idling. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to identify the cause of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure persisted and the vehicle was taken to the dealer approximately 8-times. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the vehicle was not included in TSB Number: 10052190 (Power Train). The approximate failure mileage was 143,300. The repairs were made at the owner's expense in the amount of $2196.46.

1. Currently on My 2nd PCM and 4th set of coils and plugs. I was driving My car a few months ago and it started struggling to stay running and the engine light started flashing and after about 2 minutes the car completely shut down. Bought All new coils and Plugs to find out that the pcm was just popping them. Replaced the Pcm and Coils and plugs and Now My car is sitting due to the same problem with the PCM and coils. 2. About a Year ago, I Pulled into the Gas station and when I got back into my car it wouldn't start. After days of Mechanic work I was told that the wiring harness that powers the fuel pump were melted. Which could have very easily caught My car on fire while I was inside. 3. 6 months ago My power Steering went out for the 1st time because of the bolt on the pully and happened again 3 months ago. How are these things not recalled!!?? I've seen a ton of complaints!

AT 4 WAY STOP SIGN AND WHEN STEPPED ON GAS NOTHING, WOULDN'T GO FORWARD OR REVERSE. AS LONG AS CAR WAS RUNNING COULDN'T GET INTO PARK. WHILE IN DRIVE OR LOW GEAR A GRINDING NOISE WAS UNDERNEATH THE CAR. HAD GOOD TRANSMISSION FLUID AND WAS WHERE IT SUPPOSE TO BE ON DIP STICK. THIS IS A 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION AND FOUND OUT FROM OUR MECHANIC THE FORD HAS HAD A LOT OF PROBLEMS WITH THIS PARTICULAR TRANSMISSION AND DO NOT MAKE THEM ANYMORE.

THE VEHICLE WAS EVENTUALLY ABLE TO STOP AND PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROADWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ODANIEL FORD MITSUBISHI (631 LINCOLN HWY W, NEW HAVEN, IN 46774, (855) 973-4169) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRICAL THROTTLE BODY AND ABS FAILED. THE ELECTRICAL THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED, BUT THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NO REPAIR FOR THE BRAKES. THE CONTACT'S BROTHER RETRIEVED THE VEHICLE FROM THE DEALER AFTER THE REPAIRS. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH AND APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND FAILED TO ENGAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO COME TO A STOP AFTER TRAVELING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION WITHOUT A CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT DID NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS. NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 196,625.

MY IGNITION COILS HAVE MELTED AND FRIED THE PCM. LONG STORY SHORT IT WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHERE I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A HIGHWAY GOING 50MPH WHEN MY CAR JUST WOULDN'T ACCELERATE. IT STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY AND I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO LOSE CONTROL. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY MAKE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND HAVE IT TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP. UNFORTUNATELY, FORD HAS YET TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND RECALL THESE DEFECTIVE PARTS. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS FILED ONLINE. THIS ISSUE COSTS THOUSANDS TO FIX AND SHOULD BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY BY FORD. EVEN THE DEALERSHIP COMMENTED THAT THEY THOUGHT THE IGNITION COIL MAY HAVE MELTED BEFORE THEY EVEN LOOKED AT IT BECAUSE THEY KNOW THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH FORD FUSIONS. I'M REALLY DISAPPOINTED IN FORD.

THE PTU ON MY CAR WENT OUT LAST MONTH. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALER TO ORDER IT I WAS INFORMED BY THE PARTS DEPARTMENT TO LOOK INTO RECALLS BECAUSE THERE IS A KNOWN ISSUE. I STARTED LOOKING AND THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS PARTICULAR PTU ON THE EDGE, FLEX AND SOME FUSIONS...BUT NOT FOR MINE...I HAVE CALLED FORD AND ASKED WHY AND I WAS GIVEN NO EXPLANATION. THIS UNIT WAS MANUFACTURED BY FORD TO BE A NON-SERVICEABLE LIFETIME UNIT...OBVIOUSLY IT IS NOT. THEY HAVE ADMITTED THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM AND EVEN REPLACED SOME OF THEM...WHY IS MINE NOT COVERED WHEN IT IS THE SAME EXACT PARTS AS THE OTHERS? I HAVE ALSO FOUND THAT A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT IS BEING FILED OVER THIS ISSUE.

IN 2015 BACK TO TRANSMISSION SHOP SAME PROBLEM. JANUARY 25, 2016 BACK TO TRANSMISSION SHOP SAME PROBLEM AND THEY HAVE TO REBUILD THE TRANSMISSION AGAIN. THERE IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THESE TRANSMISSION. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PUT 2500.00 FOR A REBUILT TRANSMISSION TWICE.. 65K MILES LATER IT IS BAD AGAIN. I DON'T DRIVE HILLS OR MOUNTAINS. I LIVE FLAT LAND AND I DRIVE A LOT OF HWY MILES. THIS IS BULL!!!! I WENT TO SEE IF THERE ARE ANY RECALLS ON IT AND THERE IS NOT BUT I SEE A WHOLE LOT OF COMPLAINTS. ALL FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. TOOK THE CAR TO A FORD DEALER, SERVICE ADVISOR BELIEVE TO BE THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM. 2008 FUSION SE-V6 AWD MODEL (FWD + IT HAS A DRIVE SHAFT THAT GOES TO THE REAR WHEELS FOR AWD). SEVERAL MILES BEFORE I BROUGHT IT IN FOR SERVICE FOR THE BELOW PROBLEM THE CAR BEGAN MAKING A HOWLING/WHIRRING NOISE AT THE REAR OF THE ENGINE ONLY WHEN THE CAR WAS IN MOTION WHICH GOT LOUDER AS THE SPEED INCREASED. IMY FORD DEALER TOLD ME THE NOISE WAS BECAUSE OF A BAD DRIVESHAFT AND IT SHOULD BE REPLACED ASAP AS DRIVING IT THE WAY IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. MY CAR HAD JUST COME OUT THE MANUFACTURER'S 60,000 MILE WARRANTY AND I WAS NOT PLEASED TO LEARN THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $1103.35 FOR THE REPAIR. THE DEALER TRIED TO GET FORD TO OK THE REPAIR UNDER MY JUST EXPIRED WARRANTY. IF THE SHAFT SUDDENLY FAILED, IT COULD CAUSE CONTROL PROBLEMS SO IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE PARTICULARLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH I FOUND THAT FORD WAS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND EVEN ISSUED AN INTERNAL TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN # TSB 08-14-1 STATING THAT THE OEM DRIVESHAFTS ON THE 2008 FORD FUSION AWD MODELS WERE NOT "KEYED" CORRECTLY WHEN MANUFACTURED AND OVER A PERIOD OF TIME WILL EVENTUALLY FAIL AND DISLODGE FROM THE VEHICLE. A REVISED SHAFT WAS MANUFACTURED AND SHOULD BE USED TO REPLACE DEFECTIVE SHAFTS. FORD KNEW OF THE POTENTIALLY PART FAILURE BUT RATHER THAN NOTIFY THE OWNERS OR HAVE A SAFETY RECALL, THEY CHOSE TO KEEP IT "IN-HOUSE" AND ONLY FIX IT WHEN THE OWNERS REPORTED IT. SINCE THE MOST FAILURES SEEMED TO OCCUR NEAR THE 60,000 MILE POINT (MINE WAS JUST OVER THAT), FORD CHOSE TO ADOPT A "WAIT AND SEE" ATTITUDE ON THIS PROBLEM/SAFETY ISSUE. SINCE THE SHAFT REPAIR ONE YEAR AGO, I HAVE WRITTEN TO THE DISTRICT FORD REPRESENTATIVE AND THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF FORD, ALAN [XXX] ABOUT HOW THIS WAS HANDLED BUT TO NO AVAIL. JUST RECENTLY PLANNING TO TAKE A VACATION FROM COLORADO TO SEE MY SON AT NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, SO LAST MONTH I GOT ALL MAINTENANCE DON'T IT AGAIN. THE ENGINE WAS KNOCKING SO BAD THE I THOUGHT I WOULD FALL OFF ON THE GROUND. I GOT IT TOWED TO THE MECHANIC AND THE SAID THE COIL IS BAD, THEY REPLACE TWO COILS THAT COST $600.00. RIGHT WHEN THE MECHANIC IS GOING TO CALL US TO PICK UP THE CAR, THEY SAID IT WAS RUNNING WORSE. NOW THEY SAID THOSE COILS MELTED, AND NOW THE PCM NEED REPLACEMENT. MY 2008 FORD FUSION SE 2.3L, 5-SPEED MANUAL, HAS SHUT OFF ON THE HIGHWAY WITH NO WARNING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 65+MPH. TRAVELED FROM CT TO MARATHON, FL, ARRIVING AFTER NOON. WITHIN SIGHT OF THE HOTEL DESTINATION THE ENGINE BEGAN TO BREAK DOWN AND RUN ROUGH. I ALSO SMELLED SMOKE. I MANAGED TO GET TO THE HOTEL PARKING LOT BEFORE THE ENGINE QUIT ALTOGETHER. A LOCAL SHOP DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS TWO CYLINDER MISFIRES AND FAILED IGNITION COILS. 57 MI FROM THE DEALER IN KEY WEST AND OVER 100 MI FROM MIAMI, I ELECTED TO HAVE A LOCAL ASE CERTIFIED SHOP REPLACE THE COILS. REFLASHING THE PCM SHOWED A NEW SET OF CODES AND THAT THE PCM WAS FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ACCORDING TO MACHADO FORD IN MIAMI, THERE WERE NO PCMS IN FORD'S INVENTORY IN ALL OF THE US. SEARCHED FOR REMANUFACTURED PCMS WAS FRUITLESS AS WELL. FINALLY CONTACTED ARMSTRONG FORD IN HOMESTEAD AND THEY SAID THEY COULD FIX THE CAR. $996.56 TO THE SHOP IN BIG PINE KEY. TRANSPORTED THE CAR TO HOMESTEAD ON FRI 2/21. MONDAY THE DEALER HAD LOCATED A PCM AND REPLACEMENT WAS COMPLETED UNDER WARRANTY TUESDAY AFTERNOON. I PICKED UP THE CAR ON WEDNESDAY AND LEFT FOR JACKSONVILLE IN THE AFTERNOON. 120 MI NORTH IN JUPITOR, THE ENGINE FAILED AGAIN. WE SAT ON THE SIDE OF THE FL TURNPIKE'S 70 MPH TRAFFIC UNTIL WE COULD HAVE THE CAR TRANSPORTED TO MULLINAX FORD IN WEST PALM, ARRIVING AFTER THE SERVICE DEPT HAD CLOSED. THE NEXT DAY I LEARNED THAT ALL THREE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS WERE PLUGGED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. TWO CONVERTERS WERE AVAILABLE AND WERE REPLACED ON 2/28. THE THIRD CONVERTER WAS BACK ORDERED WITH AN EXPECTED AVAILABILITY OF 3/31. SINCE THE REMAINING UNIT HAD DISCHARGED ITS CONTENTS INTO THE TAILPIPE AND WAS DISCARDED, I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE BACK TO CT. TASCA FORD IN BERLIN CT IS STILL WAITING FOR THE REPLACEMENT CONVERTER AFTER NUMEROUS EXTENSIONS OF DELIVERY DATES FROM FORD. THE FORD CUSTOMER SERV REP REFUSED TO RETURN MY CALLS. THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO A FAULTY POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULE WHICH IMPACTS THE IGNITION COILS AND THE ESTIMATED COST OF REPAIR IS $2100! ONE OF MY IGNITION COILS WAS MELTED. FORD HAS ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS ISSUE, HOWEVER, THEY DO NOT DEEM THIS A SAFETY ISSUE! CARS THAT JUST STOP RUNNING OR DECELERATE QUICKLY IS MOST DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. I CAN THINK OF MANY SCENARIOS WHERE THIS ISSUE WOULD CAUSE INJURY OR PERHAPS EVEN DEATH.
