I want to file a safety complaint against Ford car company for their vehicle in which I purchased which is a 2008 Ford Fusion SEL for excessive and dangerous rot and rust problem on the frame and suspension and under component which can lead to accidents if one of these components fall apart . I purchased a 2008 Ford fusion SEL in Connecticut which used to be a Massachusetts state government vehicle before I've obtained it. It was well maintenance and had no flood damage. But just like a wide range of cars from Ford especially this model that I've purchased has a serious problem with excessive rust which make the car very dangerous to drive. Mind's speaking I've had to have framework done to my vehicle and change multiple suspension parts because of all the rust my transmission pan literally fell apart and all the oil came because it was so rusted. My stabilizer links and control arms have fell apart in which obstructs the steering which also caused a safety hazard for me and other people on the road. Ford has a duty to design their cars with a certain level of weather resistance. After doing research I found that there is a wide range of customers who's having the same having the same problems with this year make and model just like other vehicles that are made by ford. All the problems that stated in this complaint having verified by ASE certified mechanics that I've been working on my vehicle. The contact stated all the original metal components like control arms, tie rods, suspension shocks and struts and frame all have a issue with rot rust and corrosion which led to vehicles having alignment issues.

THE CAR WAS TOTALED AND ON JANUARY 23RD, 2020 WE RECEIVED SAFETY RECALL NOTICE 19S54/NHTSA RECALL 19V-904. HAD WE RECEIVED THIS NOTICE BEFORE 12/27/19 WE BELIEVE REPAIRS WOULD HAVE PREVENTED THE ACCIDENT AND THE CAR WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SOLD FOR PARTS.

INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ARE VERY WEAK AND BROKE. DOOR BECAME INOPERABLE FROM THE INSIDE. THE ONLY WAY TO OPEN THE DOOR WAS TO TURN THE IGNITION ON, ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW, AND THEN RELEASE THE EXTERIOR HANDLE. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN FATAL IF AN EMERGENCY EXIT WAS NEEDED.

I HAD UNLOCKED MY DOOR VIA THE AUTOMATIC LOCK SWITCH TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. I WENT TO PULL THE INDOOR DRIVER'S SIDE LATCH TO EXIT WHEN THE AUTOMATIC LOCKS BEGAN LOCKING AND UNLOCKING ON THEIR OWN, SO I DISENGAGED THE LATCH. THE LATCH THEN BROKE/POPPED OUT WITHOUT ME TOUCHING IT. I CAN NO LONGER EXIT OUT OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WITHOUT ROLLING DOWN THE AUTOMATIC WINDOWS AND OPENING THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE HANDLE. MY VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF WITH THE KEYS OUT OF THE IGNITION WHEN THIS TOOK PLACE.

THE ONLY WAY OUT OF THE CAR IS BY LOWERING THE WINDOW AND OPENING THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE. IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY, THIS MAY NOT BE FEASIBLE. THE 2013 FUSION HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AND THIS WAS A RECALL. WHY NOT ON THE EARLIER FUSION. REPAIRS COST OWNERS OVER $300.

MY WIFE PARKED HER 2008 FORD FUSION IN OUR GARAGE AND AS SHE TRIED TO EXIT THE VEHICLE THE INSIDE LEFT DRIVER'S DOOR HANDLE WOULD NOT OPEN THE DOOR. SHE TRIED TO OPEN THE DOOR SEVERAL TIMES AND ALMOST PANICKED. SHE WAS TRAPPED INSIDE. FORTUNATELY HER CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH A MICROSOFT SYNC SYSTEM AND SHE WAS ABLE TO CALL ME INSIDE THE HOUSE FROM THE GARAGE. I CAME TO HER AND WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE BECAUSE THE DRIVER'S DOOR LOCK DID NOT AUTOMATICALLY DISENGAGE WHEN SHE SHUT THE KEY OFF. SHE ROLLED DOWN THE WINDOW AND I REACHED INSIDE TO TEST THE INNER DOOR HANDLE AND LOCK. THE LOCK WAS STUCK AND THE HANDLE JUST MOVED FREELY BACK AND FORTH AS I PULLED ON IT. FINALLY, AFTER WIGGLING THE INNER LOCK BACK AND FORTH MANY TIMES I WAS ABLE TO DISENGAGE THE DOOR LOCK. I THEN COULD OPEN THE DOOR BY USING THE OUTSIDE DRIVERS DOOR HANDLE. SHE GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND I PROCEEDED TO EXAMINE THE DOOR MECHANISM. I REMOVED THE COVER PLATE AND SAW THAT THE PLASTIC ACTUATOR ARM ON THE INNER END OF THE DOOR HANDLE HAD BROKEN IN TWO AND PART OF IT HAD GOTTEN CAUGHT UP IN THE LOCKING MECHANISM. SO I CAME INSIDE AND SEARCHED ON-LINE TO BUY A NEW REPLACEMENT HANDLE. DURING MY SEARCH I DISCOVERED THAT PEOPLE ALL ACROSS THE UNITED STATES ARE CLAIMING THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH SEVERAL DIFFERENT YEARS OF FORD FUSIONS. FORTUNATELY FOR MY WIFE SHE WASN'T INVOLVED IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT AND COULDN'T GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE WHEN THE MALFUNCTION OCCURRED BUT I BELIEVE IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMETHING TRAGIC HAPPENS AS A RESULT OF THIS POTENTIALLY DEFECTIVE PART. YESTERDAY I TRIED TO START MY CAR AND THERE WAS A CONTINUOUS CLICKING SOUND COMING FROM THE DASHBOARD AND THE SECURITY LOCK LIGHT AND AIRBAG LIGHT WERE FLASHING VERY FAST. I JUST PARKED THE CAR ABOUT 1 HOUR BEFORE AND THERE WAS NO PROBLEMS UNTIL I CAME BACK TO START IT. I TRIED FOR ABOUT 1 HOUR BUT COULD NOT GET IT STARTED. I HAVE NOTICED THERE ARE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS CAR AND THE SAME ISSUES. THIS DOES SEEM LIKE A RECALL ISSUE. FOR NO APPARENT REASON, THE HOOD LATCH OPENS. THE FIRST TIME IT WAS NOTICED ON THE EXPRESSWAY, IT CAN UNLATCH ON A SECONDARY ROAD, MOST RECENTLY IT WAS NOTICED BY A NEIGHBOR AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN PARKED FOR SEVERAL HOURS. THE SAFETY CATCH ALWAYS CATCHES IT SO IT HASN'T BEEN A MAJOR PROBLEM YET, BUT I DON'T LIKE PULLING OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY. THE YOUTUBE VIDEO FORD FUSION DOOR LATCH PROBLEM BY OLDFREDSSHED 3:22 MINUTES DESCRIBES THE PROBLEM EXACTLY I'M HAVING WITH MY INNER DOORS LATCHES ON MY 2008 FORD FUSION. THE DOORS HANDLES ARE BREAKING AND I THINK THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW. I GOOGLED THE PROBLEM I'M HAVING WITH MY DOOR HANDLES AND MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM. NOTICED PASSENGER DASH UPHOLSTERY, IN FRONT OF PASSENGER AIR BAG WAS BUCKLED,AND POPPING UP. TWO DIFFERENT FORD SERVICE MANAGERS ADVISED THAT THIS WAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND THAT THE AIR BAG MIGHT NOT DEPLOY PROPERLY DUE TO THE DASH PROTRUDING. THEY BOTH TOOK PHOTOS AND FORD REFUSED TO ADDRESS BECAUSE MY VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY, BY YEARS. I ONLY HAVE APPROX. 34,000 MILES. I FEEL THAT THIS IS ALSO A SAFETY DEFECT, IF MY AIR BAG OPERATION MIGHT BE AFFECTED. I WAS ADVISED THAT THE ENTIRE DASH NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND IT IS APPROX A $1,000 REPAIR. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DASHBOARD ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE WAS PUFFED UP AND STARTING TO SEPARATE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS WHERE THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG WOULD DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. THE CASING FOR THE AIR BAG WAS SEPARATING AND LOOSENING FROM THE HOUSING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT EVEN THOUGH THE DASHBOARD WAS CRACKING, THE AIR BAG WAS STILL SECURE. THE DEALER STATED THE DASHBOARD WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN, BUT THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AS HE ENTERED THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A CRACK ON THE DASHBOARD NEAR THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIRBAG WAS SEEPING THROUGH THE DASHBOARD AND THE CONTACT WAS FEARFUL THAT THE AIR BAG COULD POSSIBLY DEPLOY WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY INFORMED HIM THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE EXPOSURE TO HEAT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,800. UPDATED 08/14/12
