The gas tank has developed a crack towards the top of the tank. This appears to be from the exact same issue that Ford recalled because the "purge valve" can cause the pressure to change inside the gas tank. As the pressure increases and decreases, a crack can develop in the top of the tank, allowing fuel to leak. My VIN was not included in the recall for some reason. Even though it is the exact same model and I believe was even built at the same plant in Mexico where the other impacted vehicles were made.

PURGE VALVE FAILURE, FORD CLAIMS THEY COULD NOT PROVIDE THE PART WHEN REQUESTED. (CHINO HILLS FORD) SAFTEY WAS PUT A RISK BECAUSE ACCORDING TO THE CURRENT RECALL FOR THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL OF A 2011 FORD FUSION THIS FAILURE COULD CAUSE PRESSURE CHANGES AND MAY CAUSE THE TANK TO CRACK AND LEAK FUEL. A FUEL LEAK IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCES INCREASES THE RISK OF A FIRE. YES THE PROBLEM WAS CONFIRMED BY A FORD DEALER IN CHINO HILLS YES IT HAS BEEN INSPECTED BY FORD AND RESULTED IN A FAILED EVAP PURGE VALVE TEST AND CALLED FOR REPLACEMENT YES THE PROBLEM CAUSED A P0456 CODES WHICH INDICATED A SMALL LEAK IN THE EVAP SYSTEM.

Car was purchased used at approximately 100,000 miles. While filling tank at pump, automatic shutoff on pump triggered repeatedly. It seemed vapor was backing up into the fill tube, so filling tank consisted of pressing pump then releasing once per gallon to allow vapors to disperse and repeat. Several mechanics reported working on similar cases and suggested inspecting the CPV canister. At approximately 110,000 miles, car developed a gas tank rupture. Mechanic inspected and determined that tank had burst at seam. In researching the CPV canister, discovered recall 15S34. Vin search states that this recall does not apply to this vehicle, but symptoms are identical to technical description.

AIRBAG: TOOK CAR IN FOR PASSENGER AIR BAG RECALL, GOT THE CAR BACK AND NOW THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME. IT WAS FINE TILL THE RECALL ISSUE FOR THE PASSENGER AIRBAG. FUEL SYSTEM: EVERY TIME I FILL MY GAS TANK (I NEVER TOP OFF), MY CAR STALLS OUR OR BUCKS. AFTER 40 OR SO MILES IT WONT DO IT ANYMORE UNTIL I FILL UP AGAIN. I'VE EVEN HAD IT STALL GOING 40 MPH.

FAILURE OF THE THROTTLE BODY AND MOTOR ASSY. T\INTERNAL FAULT CODE P2112 CAUSED THE POWER ON CAR TO GO TO LIMP MODE. THIS CREATED A DANGEROUS SITUATION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE ITEM HAS BEEN FLAGGED IN FEBRUARY 21, 2013 NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE13003ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY MALFUNCTION NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE13003 FORD HAS FAILED TO CORRECT THE ISSUE ON MY VEHICLE. THIS OCCURRED 17 AUG 2020. THE VEHICLE WAS AT 152,000 MILES AND HAD BEEN SERVICED REGULAR BY FORD SINCE PURCHASE IN 2011. THIS ISSUE SHOULD HAVE NEVER OCCURRED. I HAD STOPPED AT A LIGHT AND MADE A RIGHT TURN ON TO EXPRESSWAY IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. WITH NO ACCELERATION THIS BECAME A DANGEROUS SITUATION VERY QUICKLY. I EXPECTED TO ACCELERATE TO 45MPH BUT COULD BARLEY CREEP TO 20 MPH MAX.

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PURGE VALVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V793000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) AS A SOLUTION TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT BACK TO THE SAME DEALER FOR A SECOND DIAGNOSTIC TEST WHICH WAS STILL PENDING. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.

THE VEHICLE DOES NOT RESPOND APPROPRIATELY WHEN APPLYING THROTTLE, WHICH MAY INCREASE RISK OF ACCIDENT B/C VEHICLE MAY NOT ACCELERATE PROPERLY WHEN NEEDED EITHER PLACING ME AT RISK BECAUSE IT LEAVES ME IN THE PATH OF ANOTHER VEHICLE OR PREVENTS MY VEHICLE FROM EXPEDITIOUSLY RESPONDING TO AVOID ANOTHER VEHICLE.. SECONDARILY VEHICLE NOW OPERATING ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY IN GAS POWER MODE (WORSENING MPG EFFICIENCY) BUT ALSO CAUSING JERKING/HESITATION WHEN TRANSITIONING BETWEEN GAS/EV MODES. FINALLY GIVEN A FORD SERVICE BULLETIN (ATTACHED) THAT FORD IS AWARE FOR AT LEAST 4 MONTHS AND FORBIDS SERVICE TO THE CAR! THUS I HAVE AN UNSAFE VEHICLE THAT FORD HAS NO SOLUTION FOR REPAIR FOR AT LEAST 4 MONTHS, AND NO INDICATION OF WHEN THIS WILL BE ADDRESSED.

SLOWED DOWN TO MAKE SENSE OF IT AND STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN WITHOUT GREAT EFFORT. 1 WEEK BEFORE THIS, SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND LOCAL GARAGE TOLD ME THE CODE SAID PROBLEM WITH FUEL CAP(WHICH IT DOES NOT HAVE). NOW I HAVE LOOKED AT RECALLS AND FORD SAYS MY CAR WAS BUILT IN AUGUST,2010, BUT VIN COVERED ON THIS RECALL STARTS IN SEPTEMBER, 2010.SO NOW CAR IS DISABLED AND HAVE TO PAY TOW CHARGES TO GET IT HOME, THEN TO DEALERSHIP WHERE IT LACKS BEING COVERED BY A FEW DAYS, THEN ALMOST $2000 IN REPAIRS THAT I CAN'T AFFORD. IT HAS DISAPPEARED NOW AN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT AWAY. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE POWER STEERING. MY STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKING IT SAID THAT POWER STEERING LOCKED. AND THEY SAID THAT I CANT DO THE RECALL. I HAVE A 2011 FORD FUSION SE. AND THE ONLY RECALL THEY SAID WAS THERE WAS FOR THE AIR BAGS. I WANT TO KNOW WHY I CANT GET THESE THINGS FIXED. WHILE DRIVING, AT POSTED SPEED, 40MPH ....ALL AT ONCE, THERE WAS A COMPLETE LOSS OF ACCELERATION, A VERY ROUGH IDLE TO THE ENGINE AND A WRENCH ICON SHOWED ON THE DASH. I HAD TO QUICKLY PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE AGAIN THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO RESET AND THE WRENCH ICON DISAPPEARED. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO LOCAL MECHANIC AND THEIR COMPUTER TOOLS WERE NOT ABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG (CODES WITH A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK). CAR SEEMED TO RUN FINE FOR APPROXIMATELY THE NEXT 500 MILES AND THEN, WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSIER ROAD AT 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE DID THE EXACT SAME THING, AGAIN CAUSING ME TO NEED TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT AND PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I, ONCE AGAIN, WAS ABLE TO RESET THE SYSTEM BY TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS ISSUE AND FEEL THAT I AM NOW LIMITED ONLY TO LOCAL TRAVEL.

MY MOTHER CONTACTED ME THROUGH EMAIL TO SEE IF I KNEW ABOUT THE AIRBAG RECALL. 2 RECALLS I ONLY LEARNED ABOUT TODAY BY CHECKING MY CREDIT REPORT BECAUSE THE AGENCY THAT HOLDS THE TITLE REPORTED MY ACCOUNT FOR NON-PAYMENT. I RECIEVED A CARFAX REPORT WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AUGUST 2017 FROM DRIVETIME. I WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. NOW, I AM SEEING 4 RECALLS, 2 OF WHICH (2014 & 2016) HAVE APPEARED ONLY NOW THAT THE VEHICLE IS BEING SERVICED. I WAS PROBABLY THE ONLY IDIOT IN AMERICA THAT WOULD HAVE BOUGHT THE HIGH-MILEAGE, OVER-PRICED VEHICLE IN THE 1ST PLACE. I WAS TOLD IT HAD BEEN A FLEET VEHICLE FOR A RENTAL CAR AGENCY. I THOUGHT I WAS GETTING A SAFE VEHICLE. BUT MY FEELING NOW, IS THAT IT SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN SOLD. I'M NOT SURE WHAT TO DO. THE VEHICLE MAY GET REPOSSESSED AND I AM FEELING CHEATED. I SENT THE CAR TO THE 1ST AUTO BODY SHOP AND THEY WANTED $1470 FOR ALL THE REPAIRS. I CALLED FORD MOTOR COMPANY, THEY TOLD ME THE CAR COULD GET REPAIRED FREE OF CHARGE AT AN AUTHORIZED FORD DEALER. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE 2ND SHOP. THE CAR HAS BEEN AT THAT DEALERSHIP SINCE FEBRUARY 1ST. MY ESTIMATE IS ABOUT $260. I'M NOT SURE WHAT I'M EXPECTING TO HAPPEN, BUT I ATTACHED A PHOTO OF THE FUEL OVERFLOW HOSE LEAKING FUEL EVEN WHEN THE TANK WAS NOT FULL. IT WOULD DO THIS REGULARLY AND THAT IS 1 OF THE 2 NEW RECALLS THAT APPEARED. I'M SCARED TO DRIVE THIS CAR. ERROR CODE(S) P1450, P0456, FORD FUSION SE 2011, 3.0L V6 (4 VALVE). MY CAR WAS GETTING THE ERROR CODE P1450 (UNABLE TO BLEED UP FUEL TANK VACUME) THAT WOULD TURN ON THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT (MIL) THIS WOULD HAPPEN AFTER THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN STARTED FOR A SHORT TIME.. THIS WENT ON FOR A SHORT TIME, I FOUND THAT BY USING THE GAS FUNNEL SUPPLIED WITH THE CAR THE VACUME COULD BE RELIEVED AND ALL WAS GOOD FOR A FEW DAYS. AFTER ABOUT 3 OR 4 TIMES IT STOPED COMING UP. NOW ,1 YEAR AND A FEW DAYS TO THE DATE, IT'S BACK AND I'M GETTING THE ERROR CODE P0456 (EVAP EMISSIONS CONTROL SYSTEM LEAK VERY SMALL) WITH IT.IT MEANS, IN MY CASE, THAT THE EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS CANISTER PERGE VALVE (CPV) HAS A SMALL LEAK THAT IS CAUSING A VACUME TO DEVELOP IN THE FUEL TANK. IF THIS HAPPENS ENOUGH TIMES IT CAN CAUSE THE FUEL TANK TO DEVELOP A CRACK, THIS HASN'T HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE THAT I'M AWARE OF YET (I'LL BE CHECKING ON THAT WHILE I CHANGE THE CPV),. AND WE ALL KNOW THAT A LEAKING GASOLINE TANK ISN'T A GOOD THING IN A LOT OF WAYS.

THE CARS P2119 AND P2112 TROUBLE LIGHTS AND THE WRENCH LIGHT KEEP APPEARING. THE CAR SUDDENLY LOSES POWER REGARDLESS OF SPEED OR LOCATION. CHECK FUEL FILL INLET: THE CHECK FUEL FILL INLET WARNING HAS INTERMITTENTLY COME ON IN MY 2011 FORD FUSION SEL FOR THE LAST 6 MONTHS. I WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY CITY STREET DURING RUSH HOUR WHEN I NOTICED THE CAR JERKING WHEN IT CHANGED GEARS. THE RPM WOULD SHOOT UP HIGH THEN BACK DOWN WHILE LOSING POWER TO THE VEHICLE. I MANAGED TO GET TO AN AUTO ADVANCE STORE WHERE I HAD A DIAGNOSTIC DONE SINCE MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. THE DIAGNOSTIC CAME BACK WITH CODE PO455 TWICE AND PO457 TWICE. IT WAS THEN EXPLAINED THAT TOO MUCH AIR WAS GETTING INTO MY FUEL SYSTEM. I PROCEEDED TO GO TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP, WHICH WAS A HALF MILE AWAY. ON THE WAY, MY CAR CONTINUED TO JERK AND LOOSE POWER AND SOME POINTS. THEN EVERYTHING DIGITAL WHICH ONE DISPLAYS MY MILEAGE AND THE OTHER DISPLAYS HOW MANY MILE TILL EMPTY DISPLAYED INTERMITTENT LINES AND THE WRENCH ILLUMINATED ON MY DASHBOARD. AT THIS TIME MY CAR WAS ON BUT QUICKLY LOST POWER TO GO FORWARD. IT ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED BY THE CAR BEHIND ME. I PUT ON MY TURN SIGNAL AND I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURN OFF MY CAR WAITED A FEW MINUTES THE TURNED BACK ON AND PUT IT IN DRIVE. THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD. THE ENGINE JUST REVVED UP LIKE I HAD IT IN NEUTRAL. I PUT IT BACK IN PARK THEN PUT IT IN REVERSE. THE CAR WOULD OPERATE IN REVERSE. HAD TO HAVE CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. THREE MONTHS PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT, I HAD TO TAKE MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE OF EXCESSIVE BATTERY ACID ON MY POSITIVE TERMINAL THAT HAD EATEN THROUGH THE WIRING HARNESS. HAD TO HAVE HARNESS AND BATTERY REPLACED. I STILL NOTICE ISSUES OF BATTERY ACID ACCUMULATING AROUND THE SCREWS ON THE BATTERY HARNESS AND POSITIVE LEAD AGAIN.

I PURCHASED A 2011 FORD FUSION ON 12/14/16. IT HAD A HALF TANK OF GAS IN IT WHEN I TOOK DELIVERY. I FILLED THE TANK ON 12/15/16. AFTER DRIVING IT, I NOTICED A STRONG SMELL OF FUEL FOR ABOUT THE TOP 1/8 OF THE TANK. DUE TO A LOT OF SNOW AND ICE WE HAVE HAD, I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO TELL IF THERE IS ACTUALLY ANY FUEL LEAKING ONTO THE GROUND BUT THE ODOR IS THERE ONCE THE CAR IS PARKED AFTER DRIVING. THERE IS A KNOWN RECALL OF ALMOST A HALF MILLION 2010/2011 FORD FUSIONS AND MERCURY MILANS FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED WITHIN THE DATES OF THE RECALLED VEHICLES. I CONTACTED FORD AND THEY STATED THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT PART OF THIS RECALL. THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO ASSIST ME WITH DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIR AT THIS TIME. NOV. 13, 2016 I FILLED THE TANK WITH GAS. WHEN I GOT HOME THE TANK WAS LEAKING PROFUSELY. THE NEXT MORNING I DROPPED IT OFF TO A CHAIN AUTO SHOP. THEY WERE ABLE TO DETERMINE THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE FUEL ASSEMBLY AND ALSO REPORTED THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER RECALL THAT I SHOULD TAKE TO FORD DEALER. I RESEARCHED THE RECALL 15S34 THAT WAS ISSUED FEB 4, 2016 BUT MY PARTICULAR VEHICLE HAD BEEN "CLOSED OUT". THE DEALER IN MICHIGAN LOOKED AT THE CAR 24 DAYS AFTER THE RECALL WAS ISSUED AND DETERMINED THERE WERE NO ISSUES. THEY REPROGRAMMED THE PCM ON FEB 29TH. THE NEW PATCH WASN'T RELEASED UNTIL THE 1ST QUARTER (NO DATE). HOWEVER, 8 MONTHS LATER - THE FUEL TANK IS EXHIBITING SYMPTOMS CONSISTENT WITH THE RECALL. I ALSO NOTICED PREVIOUSLY THAT WHEN I FILLED UP, THE CAR DIDN'T TURN OVER RIGHT AWAY. FORD REFUSES TO TAKE CARE OF THE FUEL TANK AND REOPEN THE RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. FORD'S AUTOMATED PHONE SYSTEM FOR RECALL - 15S34 SPECIFICALLY MENTIONS THAT "THE CPV MAY DEVELOP AN INTERNAL LEAK WHICH UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES ALLOW EXCESSIVE VACUUM TO BUILD IN THE FUEL TANK. REPEATED CYCLES OF THIS CONDITION WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE A CRACK TO DEVELOP. THE LETTER FROM MICHAEL BERARDI ALSO STATES THAT "INTERM REPAIRS FOR THESE VEHICLES ("CLAIMS WILL NOT CLOSE 15S34") WHY IS MY CAR NOT BEING TAKEN CARE OF BY FORD? DEALER REPLACED BUT THEN BEGGED OFF REQUESTING I PAY WARRANTY REPAIR COST OF $122 BECAUSE "MANUAL TRANSMISSION" VEHICLES AND THOSE NOT ASSEMBLED IN MEXICO WERE NOT COVERED. I AM ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN THAT MY ISSUE WAS EXACTLY THAT COVERED BY 13N03 AND FEEL THAT HAVING THE POWER LOSS "LIMP MODE" OCCUR IN A MANUAL TRANSMISSION VEHICLE ACTUALLY PUT ME AT MORE RISK BECAUSE OF THE GREATER SPEED LOSS DUE TO THE DIRECT CONNECTED DRIVE PATH. LUCKILY IT WAS LATE AT NIGHT ON A LESS TRAVELED ROAD ALLOWING ME TO COAST OFF SAFELY ONTO THE SHOULDER. I PAID THE $122 SINCE THEY HAD ALREADY DONE THE WORK BEFORE REALIZING THAT MY CAR WAS NOT COVERED, AND THE THROTTLE BODY ALONE WOULD HAVE COST ME $75+, BUT I CANNOT UNDERSTAND HOW THIS IS NOT A FULL-FLEDGED RECALL AND DOESN'T COVER EVERY VEHICLE WITH THIS TYPE OF ETB? IN THE LAST 24 HOURS MY VEHICLE STALLED ON THE FREEWAY (I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED--THIS HIGHWAY HAS A CURB ON BOTH SIDES INSTEAD OF SHOULDERS) 4 TIMES IN 5 MILES. THE FIRST TIME WAS AS I WAS TURNING ONTO THE HIGHWAY FROM AN INTERSECTION. EACH TIME, I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE THE CAR WITH THE GAS PEDAL. EACH TIME, THIS WAS PRECEDED BY A LURCHING FORWARD AND A SLUGGISH PERFORMANCE OF THE ENGINE FOR ABOUT 1 SECOND BEFORE THE ENGINE NO LONGER POWERS THE WHEELS. THE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON AND I HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND THEN TURN IT BACK ON IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO ACCELERATE AGAIN. AS I SAID, WHEN I WOULD ACCELERATE, THE ENGINE WOULD DIE, AND THIS HAPPENED FOUR TIMES. WHEN I RESTART THE CAR, BUT BEFORE IT DIES AGAIN, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH OTHER 2011 FORD FUSIONS THAT THE NHTSA HAS ALREADY INVESTIGATED--THE THROTTLE BODY IS DEFECTIVE. HOWEVER, SOMEHOW THE NHTSA LET FORD OFF THE HOOK AND DIDN'T RECALL THE PART AND ALLOWED FORD TO ONLY APPLY THE "CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 13N03" TO CARS WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. I HAVE A MANUAL TRANSMISSION CAR. I WILL TELL YOU THAT EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED IN CARS THAT INITIATED THE INVESTIGATION AND THIS PROGRAM IS EXACTLY WHAT IS HAPPENING IN MY CAR. THE INVESTIGATION NEEDS TO BE REOPENED AND THIS THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE RECALLED FOR ALL TRANSMISSION TYPES. HAD BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH MY 2011 FORD FUSION SINCE EARLY 2015. EACH TIME I PUT FUEL INTO THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T START ' SIMILAR TO WHAT HAPPENS WHEN ENGINE IS FLOODED. THOUGHT IT WAS BAD FUEL. RAN THE FUEL TANK TO NEARLY EMPTY AND REFUELED. SAME ISSUE EVERY TIME I REFUEL. MADE SURE THERE WAS NOTHING BLOCKING THE FUEL FILLER CAP/FLAP. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD GO ON AND OFF AND THEN STAYED ON. IN SEPT 2015, TOOK VEHICLE TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC AND THE ERROR CODES (PO456 AND PO104) INDICATED A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM. REPLACED PURGE SOLENOID. DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE 15S34 IN JANUARY 2016 RELATED TO A DEFECT/SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM & FUEL TANK. MARCH 2016 (ENGINE LIGHT STILL ON) TOOK VEHICLE TO FORD DEALER AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEMS I'VE BEEN HAVING AND PROVIDED BILL FROM MECHANIC AND DOCUMENTATION FOUND OF OTHER FORD OWNERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. DEALER INSPECTED VEHICLE & SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE EXCEPT THAT I HAVE A LEAK IN MY FUEL FILLER NECK WHICH IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL, BUT THEY COULD REPLACE 'FOR ABOUT $250 OR SO'. HOW IS IT THAT THIS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL? FUEL AND FUMES LEAKING FROM THE FILLER NECK ARE AS DANGEROUS AS CRACKS AND LEAKS IN THE TANK. DID SOME RESEARCH AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM THAT FORD HAS BEEN MADE AWARE OF. THERE IS NO REASONABLE EXPLANATION AS TO HOW I WOULD HAVE CRACKED THE FUEL FILLER NECK. THE CAR ONLY HAS APPROX. 66K MILES ON IT, WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW IN 2010, IS REGULARLY SERVICED AND HAS NEVER BEEN MISUSED. THIRD OCCURRENCE WAS 2 DAYS LATER WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED SEVERAL TIMES BETWEEN SHOPPING CENTER AND HOME. WOULD RESTART OK BUT THROTTLE WOULD QUIT WORKING AGAIN. AFTER RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET, WE ORDERED A REPLACEMENT THROTTLE BODY AND PUT IT ON OURSELVES RATHER THAN ATTEMPTING TO GET FORD DEALER TO DO SOME SORT OF EXTENSION OF WARRANTY REPAIR. NO RECALL HAD BEEN RECEIVED FOR THIS PROBLEM. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN CAR LOSES POWER IN HEAVY TRAFFIC SO DID NOT WANT TO CONTINUE DRIVING SINCE THE PART WAS AVAILABLE AND EASY TO REPLACE. FORD SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL FOR THESE DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY PARTS.

I REFUELED YESTERDAY AND FUEL BEGAN LEAKING OUT FROM THE FUEL FILLING PORT AND DOWN THE SIDE OF THE CAR. I STOPPED SEVERAL TIMES AND CLEANED THE SPILL. I FINALLY GAVE UP AND STOPPED AT HALF A TANK. I WENT TO THE DEALER TODAY AND WAS TOLD THIS ISSUE (REPLACING THE FUEL FILLER NECK) WAS NOT PART OF THE 8 YEAR/ 80,000 MILE EMISSIONS WARRANTY IN CALIFORNIA AND WOULD NOT BE COVERED. THIS IS NOT ONLY A SAFETY ISSUE BUT AN ENVIRIONMENTAL ISSUE AS WELL. I AM HIGHLY CONCERNED THAT FORD CAN PICK AND CHOOSE WHAT ITEMS ARE WARRANTED WHEN IN FACT THE ENTIRE SYSTEM IS FULLY INTEGRATED AND RELATES TO ALL OTHER FUNCTIONS IN THE SYSTEM. THE SAFETY ISSUE ENDAGERS NOT JUST MYSELF BUT ANYONE AT THE GAS STATION AT THE TIME. I BELIEVE A RECALL SHOULD BE ORDERED. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE ERROR CODE IS FOR A EVAP SYSTEM LEAK. I TOOK THE CAR TO A GARAGE. THEY SAID THERE IS MOST LIKELY A SMALL CRACK IN THE FUEL DELIVERY HOSE ON THE CAPLESS FUEL SYSTEM. HOWEVER, TO SAVE MONEY THEY SAID TO GO TO A FORD DEALER BECAUSE IT COULD BE UNDER WARRANTY OR RECALLED. IT IS NEITHER. THE 2013 FORD FUSIONS WERE RECALLED FOR THE DELIVERY HOSE CRACKING. (RECALL NO. 13504) NOW I CANNOT FILL MY TANK UP THE WHOLE WAY WITHOUT GAS LEAKING OUT. MY HUSBAND AND I BOUGHT A 2011 FORD FUSION IN DECEMBER OF 2012, IT WAS USED WE BOUGHT IT. I HAD 30,000 MILES WHEN WE FIRST DROVE IT. I WAS DRIVING AT LOW SPEED ON A SECONDARY STREET, GOING ABOUT 15 MPH. SUDDENLY, THE VEHICLE BECAME UNRESPONSIVE TO THE GAS PEDAL. THE ERROR OCCURRED AS I WAS DRIVING ON A MAJOR 8-LANE HIGHWAY. I WAS ABOUT A QUARTER-MILE FROM MY EXIT (AFTER BEING ON THE HIGHWAY FOR 60 MILES) WHEN I FELT A "CLUNK" AND AN ORANGE-LIT WRENCH APPEARED ON MY DASH. WHILE THE BRAKE WAS DEPRESSED, THE CAR WAS ATTEMPTING TO MOVE FORWARD VERY ABRUPTLY, AS PART OF IT'S "LIMP HOME" FEATURE. AFTER DOING RESEARCH AND FINDING THE VERY COMMON ISSUES WITH THE FUSION, I ASKED THEM TO CHECK THE THROTTLE WHEN RUNNING THE DIAGNOSTICS. SURE ENOUGH, THAT WAS THE REASON. $450+ AFTER THE REPAIRS AND THE TOW. MY CAR ONLY HAS 41,000 MILES ON IT, BUT IS UNFORTUNATELY OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD. FORD SHOULD STEP UP AND PAY FOR THESE REPAIRS DUE TO THE DANGEROUS AND FATAL ISSUES THAT THIS PROBLEM CAN CAUSE. THE ENGINE REMAINS AT IDLE WITH FLUCTUATIONS FROM 800-1200 RPMS. I WAS DRIVING HOME GOING 45 MPH WHEN MY CAR STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. WHEN I TRIED TO GIVE IT GAS, IT STARTED JUMPING AND JERKING THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS ABLE INCH BY INCH TO MOVE MY CAR TO THE ADJACENT TURNING LANE, TURN ON MY FLASHERS AND CALL MY HUSBAND ON MY CELL PHONE. HE WAS ON HIS WAY HOME ALSO AND PULLED UP BEHIND ME. HE TRIED TO GIVE IT GAS TOO BUT IT WOULD NOT BUDGE. HE TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND THEN CRANKED THE CAR. WE WERE ONLY A COUPLE OF MILES FROM OUR HOUSE, SO HE DROVE BY 2011 FORD FUSION HOME AND I FOLLOWED IN HIS TRUCK. I THEN CALLED MY DEALER, JIM TIDWELL FORD ON BARRETT PARKWAY AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAD HAPPENED. THEY SUGGESTED THAT I CALL A WRECKER AND HAVE IT TOWED TO THEIR LOCATION AS DRIVING THE CAR MIGHT DUE FURTHER DAMAGE OR THE INCIDENT MIGHT RE-OCCUR. SO, THAT'S WHAT I DID. A SERVICE TECHNICIAN CALLED ME FIRST THING THIS MORNING AND I WENT OVER WHAT HAD HAPPENED WITH HIM. HE CALLED ME THIS AFTERNOON AND SAID MY CAR WAS READY FOR PICK UP. THE PROBLEM WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND MOTOR ASSEMBLY AND SINCE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY THERE WOULD BE NO CHARGE TO ME. I CAN'T BELIEVE FORD ISN'T DECLARING A RECALL ON THIS PART. WHILE DRIVING IN THE CENTER LANE ON THE SOUTHBOUND I-5 FREEWAY MY 2011 FORD FUSION BEGAN TO FEEL LIKE IT WAS DRIVING THROUGH MUD AND LOST ACCELERATION. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO COMPENSATE BY ACCELERATING THE CAR, IT RESISTED AND CONTINUED TO SLOW SIGNIFICANTLY. THANKFULLY TRAFFIC WAS NOT EXTREMELY HEAVY AT THE TIME AND I WAS CLOSE TO A FREEWAY EXIT. I PULLED TO THE RIGHT, AVOIDING ONCOMING TRAFFIC (BARELY) AND COASTED DOWN THE OFF RAMP. BY THE TIME I GOT TO THE OFF RAMP (ABOUT 10 SECONDS) THE CAR HAD GONE FROM 65 MPH TO LESS THAN 5 MPH. IF IT WASN'T FOR THE MOMENTUM OF THE VEHICLE I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MAKE IT AND WOULD HAVE BEEN AT A DEAD STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC (AND SEMI TRUCKS) GOING BETWEEN 60 AND 75 MPH. THE ENGINE WAS THROBBING, THE CAR WAS SHAKING, AND I HAD NO ACCELERATION CAPABILITY AT ALL. I HAD ENOUGH MOMENTUM ON THE OFF RAMP DOWNSLOPE TO TURN RIGHT AND STOP MY VEHICLE AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO A DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. I WAS TOLD THE THROTTLE WAS THE PROBLEM AND IT WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. HAD TIMING NOT BEEN EXACTLY RIGHT, THIS PROBLEM COULD HAVE CAUSED A VERY SERIOUS OR EVEN DEADLY ACCIDENT FOR ME AND FOR OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. I DECIDED NOT TO TAKE A CHANCE OF GETTING REAR ENDED (INJURED OR KILLED) SO AT THE FIRST BIG BREAK IN TRAFFIC I SAFELY EXITED THE VEHICLE AND WALKED OVER TO THE SIDEWALK (ONE LANE OVER). A LOCAL APARTMENT RESIDENT SAW THE INCIDENT AND GRABBED A SAFETY CONE TO PUT BEHIND MY CAR AS A WARNING. THANKFULLY THERE WERE NO ACCIDENTS BUT THERE WERE SOME CLOSE CALLS AND LAST MINUTE LANE CHANGES AS DRIVERS CAME UPON MY CAR. I CALLED FORD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THEY SENT A TOW TRUCK TO GET THE VEHICLE. IT STARTED UP PERFECTLY FOR THE DRIVER, BUT I HAD IT TOWED ANYWAY. IT HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER FOR TWO DAYS. THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE SITUATION AND HAVE RECEIVED NO "CODES" TO INDICATE A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. THEY HAVE CALLED FORD TO ASK FOR ASSISTANCE AND FORD HAS ASKED THEM QUESTIONS REGARDING LIGHTS GOING ON, MY SPEED AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT, HOW FAR I HAD BEEN DRIVING THE CAR BEFORE THE INCIDENT, ETC. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH MY 2011 FUSION COMPLETELY FAILING. THE FIRST TIME WAS IN SEPTEMBER 2012 WHEN THE THROTTLE FAILED ON THE FREEWAY. IT WAS SUPPOSEDLY FIXED. I HAVE BEEN SENSING A SURGE IN ENGINE POWER FOR SEVERAL MONTHS IN MY 2011 FUSION. I SUSPECTED A THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM AND GOOGLED FOR INFORMATION. I FOUND ALL OF THE INFORMATION ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE ABOUT THROTTLE BODY PROBLEMS FOR THIS CAR AS WELL AS INFORMATION IN OTHER FORUMS. IT WAS A GOOD THING AS I WAS PREPARED FOR WHAT HAPPENED TODAY. I HAD JUST LEFT MY HOUSE WHEN THE DREADED (AND EXPECTED) LOSS OF ENGINE POWER WITH THE WRENCH LIGHT BEING ILLUMINATED. I EXPERIENCED THE SAME SYMPTOMS REPORTED BY SO MANY COMPLAINTS LOGGED FOR THIS ISSUE: LOSS OF POWER, ROUGH IDLE, JUST ENOUGH POWER TO BARELY MOVE THE CAR, CERTAINLY NOT ENOUGH TO LIMP ANYWHERE, MUCH LESS HOME, EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE WAS IN "LIMP HOME" MODE. I HAD MY CODE SCANNER WITH ME AND WAS ABLE TO RETRIEVE THE P2111 (THROTTLE STUCK OPEN) CODE BEFORE I RESTARTED THE CAR TO RESTORE FULL POWER. THIS ONLY WORKED ENOUGH TO GET THE CAR TURNED AROUND WHEN LIMP HOME WAS TRIGGERED AGAIN. I RESTARTED AGAIN AND WAS ABLE TO GET WITHIN A BLOCK OF MY HOUSE WHEN LIMP HOME TRIGGERED ONCE MORE. THE THIRD TIME I WAS ABLE TO GET TO MY HOUSE. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEN ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TO GET MY CAR TOWED TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER AFTER VERIFYING THAT THEY HAD A THROTTLE BODY IN STOCK. THE CAR WAS TOWED THERE AND A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY WAS DIAGNOSED AND REPLACED. THIS IS NOT A CASE OF IF THE FAILURE WILL HAPPEN, BUT RATHER WHEN. I WAS FULLY EXPECTING IT ANY DAY AND SURE ENOUGH, IT HAPPENED. I WAS EXTREMELY FORTUNATE AS I WAS LESS THAN A MILE FROM HOME, KNEW WHAT TO EXPECT AND HOW TO DEAL WITH IT, AND MY CAR WAS STILL IN WARRANTY, BUT ONLY BY 1,806 MILES! ANY OTHER SITUATION WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN ME BEING IN A VERY DANGEROUS PREDICAMENT WITH A CAR THAT WAS BASICALLY DEAD IN THE WATER. INTERNET RESEARCH SHOWED THAT THIS WAS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR AND THE DEALER KNEW EXACTLY WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT UPON HEARING OUR STORY. A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY. HE SAID OURS WAS THE THIRD ONE BEING DROPPED OFF THAT SAME DAY FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. WE WERE VERY DISAPPOINTED TO HEAR THAT THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS PART CONSIDERING HOW DANGEROUS THE SITUATION IS. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS ACCIDENTS DUE TO THIS DEFECTIVE PART, YET STILL NO RECALL. I WAS DRIVING ON MY WAY TO WORK, DRIVING ABOUT 55-60 MPH AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR JERKED AND THE THROTTLE WENT OFF AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. EVERYTHING STILL WORKED IN THE CAR BUT WHEN I PRESSED ON THE GAS, NOTHING HAPPENED. LUCKILY I WAS NEAR A TURN OFF AND I WAS ABLE TO COAST ONTO THE ROAD AND PULL OFF. I TURNED MY CAR OFF AND BACK ON, AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THEY KNEW IMMEDIATELY WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND SAID THEY COULD ORDER THE PART BUT IT WOULD BE FEW DAYS. IN THE MEAN TIME I AM JUST SUPPOSED TO PULL OVER AND TURN MY CAR OFF AND ON IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. I HAVE AN HOUR COMMUTE TO WORK IN THE MORNING DRIVING IN SEVERAL LANE INTERSTATE TRAFFIC AND THIS COULD BE REALLY SCARY IF IT WERE TO HAPPEN THEN. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH 2011 AND OTHER MODEL FORD FUSIONS AND OTHER MODEL FORD CARS. ACCORDING TO THE MEDIA, ON OCT 2ND 2012 NHTSA CREATED A DEFECT PETITION TO OPEN AN INVESTIGATION ON ESCAPE AND FUSION VEHICLES. I WAS TRAVELING ON OVER THE CHESAPEAKE BAY BRIDGE ON I50 IN MORNING TRAFFIC ATA ~ 60 MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY FUSION LOST COMPLETE POWER. THIS CAUSED A HAZARDOUS SITUATION. I THEN HAD TO 'LIMP' OVER A MILE UP THE TO THE TOP OF THE BRIDGE AT LESS THAN 5 MPH UNTIL I COULD PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND COAST DOWN THE OTHER SIDE. MYSELF AND NUMEROUS OTHER VEHICLES WERE SUBJECTED TO A HAZARDOUS CONDITION WHEN THIS OCCURRED. LATER TROUBLESHOOTING REVEALED MY PROBLEM WAS THE WELL KNOWN 'FUSION THROTTLE BODY ISSUE' CURRENTLY UNDER INVESTIGATION. LOCAL FORD DEALER AL PACKARD IN WHITE MARSH MD SERVICE DEPT CONFIRMED THE ISSUE AS THE '2111' FAULT AND PROBLEM. AFTER READING ALL OF THE DETAILS ON THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET, I DISCUSSED THE MATTER AT LENGTH WITH LOCAL AND NATIONAL FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE PEOPLE. ALTHOUGH THIS IS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE, FORD HAS NO CUSTOMER WARRANTY PROGRAM IN PLACE FOR THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM, NOR IS IT COVERED UNTIL THEIR POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL WARRANTY PROGRAM AND HAVE THIS PROBLEM FIXED BEFORE MORE PEOPLE GET HURT. IN MY CASE I WITNESSED NUMEROUS UNSAFE CONDITIONS WHILE I WAS LIMPING UP THE BRIDGE FOR 20 MINUTES. THE SITUATION COULD HAVE CAUSED A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT ON THE CHESAPEAKE BAY BRIDGE. ON THURSDAY 8/22/13, I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 55 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND I EXPERIENCED WHAT SEEMED LIKE AN ENGINE STALL. I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND DISCOVERED OTHERS HAVE HAD SIMILAR ISSUES THAT HAVE ALL BEEN LINKED TO A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. ON SUNDAY 8/25/13, THE ISSUE HAPPENED TWICE DURING THE DAY. TODAY I FINALLY TOOK MY CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM WHAT I WAS EXPERIENCING AND TOLD THEM THAT I THINK IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY. THE GUY TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT KNOW UNTIL THE COMPUTER DISPLAYED THE ERROR CODE. I WAS IN MY 2011 FORD FUSION. I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. WHEN IT TURNED GREEN I GAVE IT GAS AND THE CAR STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY, THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH AND WOULD NOT GO MORE THAN 2 MPH. A TRUCK ALMOST REAR-ENDED ME IN A 50 MPH ZONE. I WAS REALLY SHAKEN UP AND THOUGHT THAT WAS THE CLOSEST I HAD COME TO DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY IN MY LIFE. WE TOOK THE CAR TO FORD AND THEY TOLD US THAT IT WAS A BAD THROTTLE BODY AND THAT IT WOULD BE AROUND $500 TO REPLACE. THEY SAID THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER BUT COULD DO A RUSH SHIPMENT AND HAVE IT WITHIN 10 DAYS. OUR FORD HAS ALWAYS BEEN SERVICED AT THE DEALERSHIP BUT WE DECIDED TO CALL OUR MECHANIC (NON FORD) IN TOWN TO SEE IF HE COULD GET THE PART QUICKER OR CHEAPER. HE CALLED ANOTHER FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE THROTTLE BODY IS A HUGE PROBLEM AND THEY HAD BEEN BACK ORDERED FOR OVER 6 MONTHS BUT MORE WERE EXPECTED IN BY OCTOBER 2013. WE CHECKED ONLINE AND FOUND THAT THERE HAS BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THE FORD THROTTLE BODY FOR YEARS, AND FORD REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I WOULD THINK FORD WOULD STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS INSTEAD OF WORRYING ABOUT PROFITS WHEN THEIR CUSTOMER'S LIVES ARE IN DANGER FROM AN INFERIOR PART. TO TOP IT OFF WE HAVE ALSO BEEN HEARING A POPPING SOUND IN THE FRONT END. WHEN WE TOOK IT INTO FORD FOR THE THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM THEY ALSO SAID THAT THE BUSHINGS IN THE FRONT END FOR THE TIE RODS AND A ARMS WERE BAD AND THAT THEY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WHEN I CALLED FORD THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO SINCE THERE WERE NOT ANY RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. FORD DEALER SHIP HAS A NEW PART NUMBER FOR THIS THROTTLE BODY WITH A 2 MONTH BACKORDER WITH AROUND 6,534 UNITS ON BACKORDER! ORDERED A NEW PART NUMBER FROM EBAY AND SEEMS TO BE WORKING. I DID THE REPLACEMENT IN 10 MINUTES, BUT HAVE READ ONLINE THAT PEOPLE ARE PAYING AROUND 500 DOLLARS AT THE DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE THIS PART. THAT ALONE SHOULD BE A LAW SUIT! THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN VERY OFTEN, AND THAT UNFORTUNATELY, THIS REPAIR WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE POWER TRAIN. THEY ORDERED AND REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. UPON INVESTIGATING THIS ISSUE ONLINE, I WAS SHOCKED TO DISCOVER THAT THIS PROBLEM IS SO PREVALENT. THE FACT THAT FORD IS COVERING THIS UP AND PUSHING THE COSTS ON TO ITS CUSTOMERS IS FRUSTRATING (MORE THAN $1300 IN MY CASE), BUT THE FACT THAT THEY ARE WILLING TO RISK THE LIVES OF THESE VERY SAME CUSTOMERS IS DOWNRIGHT DISTURBING. AMAZING I WAS QUOTED $500 FOR THE REPAIR THE DAY I BROUGHT IT IN. I TOLD HER THAT MY LAST 4 VEHICLE PURCHASES WERE NEW FORDS AND I'M SEEING AN END COMING TO OUR RELATIONSHIP IF THEY FAILED TO ACT ON THIS THROTTLE BODY THING. I FOUND OUT THAT THE NHTSA STARTED AN INVESTIGATION ON THIS ISSUE IN FEBRUARY 2013 AND FORD IS AWARE OF THE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS OF THIS SAME PROBLEM. I PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL, AND PUT PRESSURE ON THE GAS PEDAL - NO RPM'S, NO POWER - AT THIS MOMENT THE ENGINE BEGINS TO SPUTTER AND SHAKE AND I CANNOT KEEP THE CAR RUNNING. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND WAITED A FEW MINUTES. I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN, NO DASH INDICATOR LIGHTS, AND THE ENGINE ACTED NORMAL WHEN I PUT PRESSURE ON THE GAS PEDAL. GAS DELIVERY AND RPM'S SEEMED APPROPRIATE. I ENTERED FREEWAY AGAIN AND APPROXIMATELY 1.5 MILES LATER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. AMBER WRENCH ON AND NO POWER. FIRST INCIDENT 4/5/13: WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH SOUTHBOUND ON INTERSTATE 5 NEAR STADIUM WAY MY 2011 FORD FUSION WITHOUT WARNING LOST POWER AND WOULD NOT RESPOND TO ANY CHANGE IN THROTTLE POSITION VIA THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. A CHP (CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL) OFFICER ESCORTED ME OFF THE FREEWAY. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES I ATTEMPTED TO START MY VEHICLE AND IT RAN FINE. I PURCHASED A OBD II SCANNER AND CHECKED FOR ANY STORED CODES, NO CODES WERE FOUND. I CONTINUED TO MONITOR MY VEHICLE VIA THE OBD II SCAN TOOL AND NO CODES WERE RECORDED. SECOND INCIDENT 6/13/13: WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH EASTBOUND IN THE NUMBER 1 LANE ON INTERSTATE 10 MY 2011 FORD FUSION ONCE AGAIN VEHICLE LOST POWER WITHOUT WARNING AND WOULD NOT RESPOND TO ANY CHANGE IN THROTTLE POSITION VIA THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. IN MY ATTEMPT TO MOVE TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER I WAS NEARLY INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. AFTER EXITING THE FREEWAY I PLUGGED IN THE OBD II SCAN TOOL AND IT CAPTURED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) P2111 THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM ' STUCK OPEN. MY VEHICLE WOULD ONLY IDLE VERY ROUGHLY. I ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE HOME IN THIS MODE. HOWEVER, AFTER APPROXIMATELY 4 MILES THE ENGINE STOPPED COMPLETELY AND I REQUIRED A TOW TO MY RESIDENCE. CAR BUCKED THEN COMPLETELY DIED (IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET)! LIGHTS THAT CAME ON: STOP SAFELY NOW, WRENCH, ENGINE, TRIANGLE WITH EXCLAMATION POINT. TOOK A FEW TIMES TO START BACK UP. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY DID NOT HAVE A CODE BUT DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. A FEW DAYS LATER, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION! ( SAME CODES) BROUGHT IT TO DEALER AGAIN, THIS TIME APPARENTLY THEY FOUND THE CODE. THE DEALER SAID GAS WAS GOING IN THE WRONG PLACE AND REPLACED A VALVE. IT HAS SINCE HAPPENED MORE THAN FIVE TIMES, ALL HAPPENING AT LESS THAN 5 MPH WHEN STARTING AFTER A STOP. CURRENTLY WITH ANOTHER FORD DEALERSHIP (GIVEN THE PREVIOUS ONE CRACKED THE WINDSHIELD BUT CLAIMED IT WAS ALREADY THERE, NOT TO MENTION THE POOR SERVICE TO THE CAR). DRIVING THE CAR, IT WILL HAVE SUDDEN LOSS OF ALL POWER. THE THROTTLE CONTROL/TRANSMISSION LIGHT INDICATOR COMES ON. YOU HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART. OWNERS MANUAL STATES TO TAKE TO THE DEALER IF IT STAYS ON OR CONTINUES TO COME ON.THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES OVER THE LAST SIX MONTHS. FRIDAY 3/8 IT HAPPENED TWICE. TOOK TO THE DEALER. STATE THEY ARE UNABLE TO REPAIR DUE TO NO CODE IN THE COMPUTER. THEY HAD IT 5 DAYS, PUT 100 MILES ON IT TRYING TO GET IT TO DO THIS AGAIN. WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED ON AN INCLINE, THE CAR LOST ALL PROPULSION POWER. AFTER SEVERAL SECONDS, THE CHECK ENGINE WRENCH LIGHT TURNED ON AND I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE. SHUTTING DOWN THE VEHICLE, WAITING 1 MINUTE AND RESTARTING CLEARED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND RESTORED POWER. THE SAME THING HAPPENED 6 WEEKS LATER, WHILE IDLING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. AFTER RESTARTING, THE SYSTEM FAILED AGAIN 2 MINUTES LATER WHILE DRIVING ON LEVEL ROAD AT 15 MPH. THE CAR RESTED FOR 2 HOURS AND WAS THEN DRIVEN WITHOUT INCIDENT TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN PERFORMED EEC TEST, PPT AND COMPONENT TESTS, THEN REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. NO SUBSEQUENT INCIDENTS AFTER 1 WEEK. *TR

I HAD JUST PURCHASED MY 2011 FORD FUSION JUST OVER A MONTH WHEN I ENCOUNTERED MY FIRST STALL ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK. I WAS FULLY STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION WAITING FOR THE STOP LIGHT TO TURN GREEN. I PRESSED DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR ONLY TO REALIZE THE ENGINE WAS NO LONGER RUNNING. THE CAR BEHIND ME BUMPED INTO MY BACK BUMPER ANTICIPATING I WOULD BE ACCELERATING THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. THERE WAS NOTHING ON THE DASHBOARD INDICATING THE ENGINE HAD DIED. I PUT THE CAR INTO PARK AND WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO START NORMALLY. I DIDN'T HAVE ANY FURTHER PROBLEMS UNTIL ABOUT 6 MONTHS LATER IN JUNE 2012. THE SECOND TIME, I WAS TURNING RIGHT INTO A PARKING LOT AND AS I MADE THE TURN AND PRESSED DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR I DISCOVERED THE CAR WAS COASTING WITH THE ENGINE DEAD AND THE DASHBOARD CONSOLE LIT UP AS IF EVERYTHING WAS STILL RUNNING NORMALLY. AGAIN, I PUT THE CAR INTO PARK AND THE ENGINE STARTED IMMEDIATELY AND EVERYTHING WAS BACK TO NORMAL AGAIN. THE THIRD TIME JUST HAPPENED IN FEBRUARY 2013 WHEN I AGAIN WAS STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I PRESSED DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR ONLY TO DISCOVER THE ENGINE WAS NO LONGER RUNNING AND NO INDICATION ON THE DASHBOARD ANYTHING WAS WRONG. I DID THE SAME THING AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND THE ENGINE STARTED AND EVERYTHING RETURNED TO NORMAL. FOR THE FIRST 2 TIMES, THE FORD DEALERSHIP JUST SHRUGGED THEIR SHOULDERS AND SAID THERE WASN'T ANYTHING THEY COULD DO IF THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE 3RD TIME, THEY DID A SOFTWARE UPDATE BASED ON A BULLETIN FROM FORD THE COMPUTER WASN'T POSSIBLY SHIFTING AT THE PROPER TIMES WHICH COULD POSSIBLY CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STALL. SO NOW I HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE IF THE SOFTWARE UPDATE REALLY FIXED THE PROBLEM OR I WILL HAVE THE PLEASURE OF EXPERIENCING ANOTHER SUDDEN SURPRISE OF HAVING A ZOMBIE CAR THAT APPEARS TO BE ALIVE BUT ISN'T. *TR

TRAVELING AT FREEWAY SPEED, ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER AND REVERTED TO IDLE RPM. ENGINE WAS IDLING ROUGHLY, AND PRESSING ON ACCELERATOR WOULD NOT INCREASE RPMS. THE "WRENCH" (CHECK ENGINE) LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. WAS ABLE TO COAST DOWNHILL TO EXIT FREEWAY; VERY UNSAFE CONDITION. SWITCHED OFF ENGINE, RESTARTED ENGINE ... AND IT RAN NORMAL; "WRENCH" LIGHT EXTINGUISHED. TOOK CAR TO WALNUT CREEK FORD FOLLOWING MORNING; THEY SAID NO FAULT CODE WAS RECORDED ON THE CARS COMPUTER AND THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE PROBLEM. SERVICE REP TOLD ME FORD HAD NO RECORDS OF ANY PREVIOUS PROBLEMS OF THIS NATURE, SO I SHOULD JUST KEEP DRIVING THE CAR. I TOLD HIM THAT WAS UNSAFE, AND HE REPLIED THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE HE COULD DO. HE SAID HE "COULD NOT JUST THROW PARTS AT AN UNKNOWN PROBLEM"'. SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED ON NOV 01, 2012. I DID AN ON-LINE SEARCH ON VARIOUS FORD FUSION FORUMS AND FOUND MULTIPLE REPORTS OF THIS SAME SITUATION WITH V6 ENGINE ATTRIBUTED TO THROTTLE BODY HOUSING. IMMEDIATELY TOOK CAR TO WALNUT CREEK FORD AND TOLD SERVICE MANAGER I WOULD NOT ACCEPT THE CAR UNTIL IT WAS REPAIRED. SHOWED HIM COPIES OF MULTIPLE ON-LINE REPORTS OF SAME PROBLEM AND TOLD HIM HIS REP HAD LIED DURING MY PREVIOUS VISIT ABOUT FORD NOT KNOWING OF ANY PREVIOUS REPORTED PROBLEMS. SERVICE MANAGER REPLIED THAT "ON-LINE REPORTS ARE NOT ALWAYS REAL", BUT SAID HE WOULD HAVE HIS BEST MECHANIC CHECK MY CAR. MECHANIC FOUND DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY HOUSING AND REPLACED. NEXT DAY IT HAPPENED TWICE, ONE OF THOSE TIMES JUST FROM THE START OF TURNING ON VEHICLE AND TRYING TO LEAVE PARKING LOT OF WORK, AND SECOND TIME WAS ON A 45MPH RD WHICH FELT DANGEROUS. SAME THING ACCELERATOR STOPPED WORKING AND IT COASTED DOWN TILL I COULD PUT IN PARK AND TURN OF VEHICLE AND TURN BACK ON. IT DOES NOT WORK IF YOU ARE COASTING AND PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND TURN OFF AND ON AS THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. AFRAID OF IT HAPPENING ON HIGHWAY. THE THROTTLE SEEMED TO WORK FINE AND WE CONTINUED TO OUR DESTINATION. THE FOLLOWING DAY THE SAME THING OCCURRED. AGAIN WE WERE NOT IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND THERE WAS A SHOULDER AVAILABLE FOR US TO GET TO. THIS TIME HE IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED IT WITH EVERYTHING RETURNING TO NORMAL. WHILE DRIVING ~55MPH IN LEFT LANE OF A 3-LANE INTERSTATE AT MORNING RUSH HOUR, THE ENGINE LOST POWER, CONTINUED RUNNING AT ~1000RPM, BUT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE CHECK ENGINE AND WRENCH LIGHTS WERE ON. THE CAR WAS NEARLY HIT BY NUMEROUS VEHICLES AS I COASTED TO THE EMERGENCY LANE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE EXPRESSWAY. THE ENGINE WAS SHUT OFF, THEN RESTARTED, AND IT WAS OK FOR SEVERAL MILES. THE SAME SCENARIO WAS REPEATED TWICE WHILE DRIVING TO A NEARBY DEALER. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED AT A COST OF $650 SINCE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. SERVICE PERSONNEL TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD SEEN SEVERAL OF THESE SAME PROBLEMS ON FUSIONS. THIS ONE DEALER IS MOST LIKELY REPRESENTATIVE OF OTHERS, SO THERE MUST BE A VERY LARGE NUMBER OF THESE PROBLEMS OCCURRING IN NEARLY NEW VEHICLES. WHY HASN'T FORD, WHERE QUALITY USED TO BE JOB ONE, ISSUED A RECALL? THIS CAR HAS BEEN OTHERWISE FLAWLESS UP TO THIS POINT. *TR
