The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the power steering assist fault message was displayed. The power steering function was inoperable. The check engine warning light was illuminated due to a possible canister purge valve failure. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering). The local dealer was not contacted, and the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 165,461.

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving under 35 MPH, the vehicle was shaking abnormally. The vehicle was shaking abnormally while idling as if the vehicle would shut off. The contact had replaced the battery 8 times; however, the failure persisted. While driving approximately 65 MPH and overtaking other vehicles, the check engine warning light began flashing temporarily. The failure had occurred twice. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed the vehicle that the oil was leaking from the valve cover gasket, oil pan, and front seal and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was unknown.

2012 Ford Fusion is having issues similar to the Ford Focus recall, 18S32, that pertains to the canister purge valve and powertrain issue. Current fusion has a 2.5L motor in it. Have replaced the canister purge valve 3 times in a 2-year span and is currenting giving codes (as well as engine light being on) of another failure. Do believe it is affecting the powertrain as well, as it is jerks under workload.

Vehicle loses power while driving, with no response when accelerator is depressed further. The engine continues to run but no throttle response. No engine warning light came on. No codes stored. Must stop, turn off engine and perform an engine restart to continue driving again.

My steering assist system goes of at odd times, and the acceleration it does tiny tugs, and my suspension it rattles, over street bumps,, can it be fixed by a dealership, cause it’s my only vehicle 🚗 I have and plus I’m on ssdi income and I can’t afford major repairs, like these, and if so have the car fully inspected just in case I’m missing something, oh and also there’s a popping noise coming from the front of the car..

Pulled out of a side street Taylor onto a main highway 39 beach Blvd and car jolted and didn’t have much go. Seemed sluggish. Transmission mount bolt had snapped off and I could have been in a major accident because I had oncoming traffic coming at me when I merged into the street and lost power because of the incident.

The power steering assist randomly went out and caused me to almost crash into a wall when I was on the freeway taking the car home. The previous owner had gotten into an accident with the vehicle which had also resulted from the power steering randomly going out, and the power steering is now out completely on the vehicle and yet seems to come on randomly while having to manually steer the vehicle. I just got the vehicle and am the most recent owner, but since the vehicle has over 150,000 miles on it and it has been over 10 years, Ford and its dealerships are saying there’s nothing they can do to fix it. However, I know that these issues going on with the car (power steering assist and electronic throttle body issues) are related to the recall on the vehicle. There are apparently no active recalls on the vehicle, but I know that the previous owners may have taken the car in for problems related to the recall. However, I also know that the company is required to fix problems related to the recall no matter how many years the warranty is or how many miles the vehicle has on it, so I’m unsure why both Ford and its dealerships are saying there’s nothing they can do and that I’ll have to pay for a diagnostic fee and then the repair fees associated with the problem, and I just got the vehicle. I don’t feel that it’s fair that I pay for repair costs associated with a recall on several other Ford Fusion vehicles as well (2011-2012) when those recall related problems almost killed me, and upon researching it no other cars have power steering assist, electronic throttle body and airbag problems like the ford fusion.

Both the power train and check engine warning lights would appear on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to both an independent mechanic and a dealer but neither could diagnose to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

My car has a very hard time shifting when I go to take off, I have not been in a wreck because of it yet but when it does shift it shifts very hard I’m afraid to even pull onto a busy road I’m worried one day it will just not shift and I’ll cause a crash.

I WAS GETTING GAS AND I CUT MY CAR OFF WHEN I GOT BACK INTO MY CAR IT DID NOT START. I CONTINUED TO START IT. CAR WOULD NOT START. I POPPED THE HOOD AND TOUCHED THE BATTERY SOME AND TRIED STARTING THE CAR THE CAR STARTED THEN ABOUT 5 MINUTES AFTER DRIVING IT SUDDENLY CUTS OFF. THIS IS A ONGOING ISSUE. CAR SUDDENLY STOPS IN THE MIDDLE OF STREET ALMOST CAUSING ACCIDENTS THAT CAN NEARLY KILL SOMEONE!!! VERY UNSAFE AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THIS HAPPENED ON HIGHWAY AND STREET. CUSTOMER SERVICE LEFT ME ON THE PHONE WITH THE MECHANIC TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT SHE HUNG UP THE PHONE I GAVE THE MECHANIC MY FIRST AND LAST NAME THEN HE REPEATED BACK TO ME MY FIRST AND LAST NAME WITH MY ADDRESS KEEP IN MIND HE HAD ALL OF MY INFORMATION IN THE SYSTEM THE WHOLE TIME. ISSUE IS INTERMITTENT, AND NHTSA HAS STUDIED THE PROBLEM PREVIOUSLY. FORD SAYS MY ETB IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALLS, AND THAT I NEED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR FORD FUSION, AND FORD SUPPOSEDLY MADE A 10YR 150,000 MILE WARRANTY ON THE PART....JUST NOT MY ETB.

HAD TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER, THEY'VE DETERMINED IT IS ELECTRICAL AFTER THE "DIAGNOSTIC", BUT ARE STILL TROUBLE SHOOTING AFTER A WEEK TO DETERMINE THE EXACT CAUSE.

THIS IS A HIGHLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM FOR MYSELF AND MY FAMILY. ON THE HIGHWAY THIS CAN / WILL CAUSE A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION TO MANY OTHER MOTORISTS AS WELL. FORD REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS AS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT ISSUE AND, BY DOING SO, IS PLACING COUNTLESS PEOPLE AT RISK UNNECESSARILY. I WAS ON THE ROAD PACK SADDLE IN JONESTOWN TX 78645, WHEN I PULLED ON TO ROAD 1431. A LARGE TRUCK WITH A CRASH GUARD HIT ME ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE @ 60MPH. THE ACCIDENT TURNED MY CAR INTO A HORSE SHOE, AND SENJT ME INTO ON COMING TRAFIC. ALL OF THE AIR BAGS WERE ACTIVATED AND SAVED BOTH ME AND MY WIFE BUT, THE RESIDUE THAT CAME WITH THE ACTIVATION PEPPERD ME IN THE FACE AND RUINED MY GLASSES. IF I HAD NOT HAD MY GLASSES ON,I WOULD HAVE LOST MY VISION DUE TO SUCH. WE WERE ON A COUNTY ROAD.TURNING LEFT AND MY VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION.

COULD ONLY GO 3-5 MPH. PULLED OFF THE ROAD. TURNED OFF CAR AND RESTARTED. ICON WAS OFF AND CAR RAN FINE. SERVICE SCAN TOOL DID NOT FIND ANY FAULTS. AFTER THE SCAN, THE DASH MESSAGE CENTER DISPLAYED THE MESSAGE: "SERVICE ADVANCETRAC". INTERMITTENT PROBLEM WITH NO OTHER ERROR MESSAGES AND APPEARS TO BE A COMMON ON FORD VEHICLES. SIMPLY RESTARTING THE VEHICLE SHOULD NOT ERASE THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION IF THIS OCCURS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS BECAUSE OF THE TOTAL LOSS OF POWER.

FOR A WHILE KNOW MY CAR WOULD RANDOMLY STOP. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS THE FUEL FILTER SO I WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC TO USE FUEL INJECTION CLEANER IN MY CAR. I HAVE DONE THAT AND IT APPEARED TO WORK HOWEVER IT STARTED UP AGAIN. NO ENGINE LIGHTS APPEAR ON MY DASH, HOWEVER I WAS NOTIFIED BY FORD THERE IS A REPLACEMENT EXTENDED WARRANTY, YET THAT EXTENSION DOES NOT COVER THE INITIAL CHARGE FROM THE DEALER TO CHECK THE THROTTLE BODY OUT, WHICH IS DEAD WRONG OF FORD. I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD COVER ANY AND ALL CHARGES REGARDING THIS THE THROTTLE BODY. AT FIRST THE RPM'S WOULD INCREASE ( AROUND 500 RPM'S) WHEN THE CAR UPSHIFTED WHEN IT WAS COLD. AS THE MOTOR AND TRANSMISSION WARMED UP THE INCREASE IN RPM'S UPON UPSHIFT LESSENED. IT APPEARED TO ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS "SLIPPING" AS IT WENT THROUGH THE GEARS...YOU COULD HEAR THE ENGINE SPEED UP AND WATCH THE TACH TO CONFIRM WHAT I WAS HEARING FROM THE ENGINE. I TOOK CAR TO DEALER AND THEY CHECKED IT OUT. THEY SAID EVERYTHING WAS FUNCTIONING NORMALLY HOWEVER THE CAR STILL DOES IT. NOTE THAT THE CAR WAS UNDER THE 3 YEAR BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY AT THE TIME AND THE SERVICE ADVISOR SAID THAT THE CAR HAS A 60K POWERTRAIN WARRANTY ANYWAY. I DID NOT LIKE HIS STATEMENT. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE AS IT SOMETIMES REVS BETWEEN SHIFTS WHEN IT IS WARMED UP. FORD SHOULD STEP UP AND REVIEW MY PROBLEM FURTHER. MY 17 YR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR AT 30 MPH WHEN THE CAR BEGAN TO BUCK AND JERK AND SHE IMMEDIATELY BROUGHT IT TO A STOP. IT WOULD NOT TAKE ANY MORE POWER OR ACCELERATION. WHILE STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD SHE CALLED ME AND NOTED THE TEMP GAUGE SHOWED HOT WITH A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. WE HAD IT TOWED. TECHNICIAN WHO DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM FOUND A FAULTY TEMP SENSOR THAT SHOWED THE ENGINE WAS OVERHEATING AND CAUSING THE ENGINE TO GO INTO FAIL-SAFE SHUT-DOWN MODE. APPARENTLY THIS HAS HAPPENED OFTEN ENOUGH THAT FORD HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN OUT ON THE PROBLEM, BUT NO RECALL. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A DISASTER IF SHE HAD STILL BEEN ON THE ROAD WHERE SHE PARKED IT. THERE SHOULD BE A MANUFACTURER RECALL TO HAVE THESE PARTS CHECKED OUT. THERE IS A KNOWN CORROSION ISSUE WITH THE SENSOR AND WIRING.

PULLED INTO AN ADJACENT PARKING LOT, STOPPED AND PLACED INTO PARK, WHILE THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN ROUGHLY. ENGINE WAS SWITCHED OFF, AND RAN NORMALLY WHEN RESTARTED. THE TOTAL ELAPSED TIME OF THE ANOMALY WAS APPROXIMATELY 5-10 SECONDS. LATER THAT DAY A SCAN OF THE OBD II PORT INDICATED NO ANOMALIES, AND AN ON-BOARD 'VEHICLE HEALTH MONITOR' WAS RUN VIA FORD SYNC . THIS REPORT ALSO INDICATED NO ANOMALIES. WHILE LOOKING UP THE VEHICLE HEALTH MONITOR RESULTS ON THE OWNER WEBSITE, I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A 'CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM' 13N03 WHICH EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE THROTTLE BODY. RESEARCH ON THIS 13N03 PROGRAM VIA MULTIPLE ON-LINE SOURCES REVEALED NUMEROUS FAILURES OF THE THROTTLE BODY, WITH BEHAVIOR IDENTICAL TO THAT OBSERVED IN THIS VEHICLE. CAR WAS DRIVEN (CAREFULLY) FOR A FEW DAYS UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO VISIT LOCAL FORD DEALER. SERVICE ADVISOR INDICATED THAT FORD WOULD ONLY REPLACE THROTTLE BODY IF THERE WERE STORED CODES CONSISTENT WITH THROTTLE BODY FAILURE, AND THAT DIAGNOSTIC COSTS ($159) WERE MY RESPONSIBILITY IF NO CODES WERE FOUND. AFTER DISCUSSING THE NEGATIVE RESULTS OF OBD II SCAN AND VEHICLE HEALTH MONITOR, HIS OPINION WAS THAT THERE WAS A VERY HIGH PROBABILITY THAT THEIR DIAGNOSTICS WOULD ALSO SHOW NO CODES. BASED ON THIS INFORMATION, I DECLINED TO HAVE DEALER EXAMINE THE CAR, AND REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY WITH UPDATED PART MYSELF (TOTAL COST $125), AS A MORE EFFECTIVE APPROACH TO PREVENTING RECURRENCE. AS OF THIS MORNING, IT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED THAT IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY AND IT WILL ONLY COST ME A $100.00 DEDUCTABLE BECAUSE (LUCKY ME) I AM PAYING FOR EXTENDED WARRANTLY... AGAIN, AFTER WAITING 10-15 MINUTES, THE CAR STARTED AGAIN AND WAS DRIVEN SAFELY TO THE AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT REMAINS 5DAYS LATER.
