On [XXX] ,I was driving in my car heading home with my [XXX] son in the backseat when my steering wheel just locked up on me and didn't want to turn and it was just stiff. I turn off my car immediately and waited about ten minutes to turn on. The car started up and the steering wheel became un loosen but this situation is off and on and it's scary . It's the third time now it happened. Next im experience a airbag warning symbol on my dashboard today [XXX] and that's even scarier driving in the car with a toddler because it's not safety. The vehicle was restarted, but the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the battery had failed and there was battery acid on the shifter cable and connector. The dealer replaced the battery, the shifter cable, the connector, the rear parking light bulb, and the purge valve. The dealer also completed the recall repair under NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V158000 (Air Bags). The contact stated that the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. 2012 Ford Fusion is having issues similar to the Ford Focus recall, 18S32, that pertains to the canister purge valve and powertrain issue. Current fusion has a 2.5L motor in it. Have replaced the canister purge valve 3 times in a 2-year span and is currenting giving codes (as well as engine light being on) of another failure. Do believe it is affecting the powertrain as well, as it is jerks under workload.

Car was impacted by previous recall related to the power steering electrical systems and power steering assist fault light. Ford needs to pay for these issues, so many people with this vehicle have had this issue and ford is refusing to pay for it.

The transmission seems to be slipping losing power and just plain failing if ford knew about this and stil put them out for years in different cars already had a recall on the transmission can we get this one recalled cause ain’t no way anyone should have to pay 2500 + to get a transmission replaced in a car with only 80000 miles on it .. and I’m still financing the car as well this just seems ridiculous they can get away with not fixing faulty parts they decided to go ahead and put in there and release the car anyway .. this lose in power has cause me to almost wreck or get hit a few times when I go to pull out and it wants to slug out into the intersection

Pulled out of a side street Taylor onto a main highway 39 beach Blvd and car jolted and didn’t have much go. Seemed sluggish. Transmission mount bolt had snapped off and I could have been in a major accident because I had oncoming traffic coming at me when I merged into the street and lost power because of the incident.

TRANSMISSION SLIPPING NO WARNING LAMP OR CODE

Transmission issues continue to appear without warning. Car shutters at times and fails to shift properly at low speeds. When exiting the freeway and coming to a stop, car wants to surge forward, even with brakes firmly applied. I have had the wrench light come on briefly two times. Took the car into a local transmission shop and requested diagnostic scan for codes and trouble shoot. No codes were found for transmission or any other system on the car. As the car had 100K miles, shop recommended a Transmission fluid change, even though Ford does not recommend this until 150K miles. Shop noted that fluid color was still red in color and no foreign debris was found in the old fluid. There is no evidence of fluid leaks either. Transmission shop recomended that I contact Ford delearship to see if they can reprogram or update Transmission Control Module. Contacted local dealership and was told that they would charge a minimum of $242.50 to run another diagnostic scan, but that there were no guarantees that this would solve the problem. A simple Google search shows that there are many "known issues" with this Ford Transmission that is in my vehicle, but Ford has not issued any recalls to remedy the problem. I feel that I am stuck between a rock and a hard place with an unreliable vehicle that Ford "knows" has transmission problems but chooses to ignore their customers.

Service advance trac and service power steering now keeps coming on . I’ve looked this problem up and seems to be a VERY common thing amongst ford fusions. Because of this , my power steering turns off and no matter how many times I reset the code , it keeps turning back on . It makes it very dangerous to drive the car especially if it turns off in the middle of a trip/drive.

Power Steering Gear , no had it fixed at ford diagnostic code P07AE . Was driving on the freeway power steering went out and car jerked wheel all the way to right almost hit guardrail with 5 yr old daughter in car. Yes . yes. No.

Did not put car into park and was able to turn key fully back and remove the key from the off position. Car started rolling on slight incline. No issues other than rain sensor wipers not always working, so maybe an issue in column. Have not taken to dealership or mechanic yet.

I currently am the owner of a 2012 Fusion Hybrid. My transmission is not shifting properly. I have had the PCM updated as an attempt to correct the issue. It will rev high, like a race car, and drives like a race car. It does not shift into higher driving gears as designed. My son, who is a student driver, isn't safe to drive it. I believe that this is an issue that Ford is aware of and the dealership is wanting $5000-$6000 to fix. There are no warning lights on, so the dealership gets almost $200.00 for a diagnostic. This is not fair to the consumer.

Drove car out of driveway, after driving approximately 150-200 feet the dashboard wrench icon ( powertrain problem ) illuminated and car went into limp mode. Read MIL codes, had codes P0715, Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction and P0717, Input/Turbine Speed Sensor No Signal. Traced wiring problem to connector in front of drivers side shock tower. This connector is the connector between the PCM and and the transmission. The connector was causing an open on the conductors, causing the lack of TSS signal. There were no symptoms or intermittent problems prior to this - it happened suddenly. Had been on an interstate hiway the day prior to this, am glad this ( going into limp mode ) did not happen while I was traveling at 65mph - could have caused accident.

A recall was issued in 2015..15S18.. It seems my Vin number isn't included in the recall because it was manufactured in New Mexico. My power steering at 70 mph goes out without any warning. The above recall is exactly what's happening with my vehicle. Now I am obligated to pay 2k to fix a manufacturing flaw. This is a huge saftey issue to be on the road and while your driving your power steering goes out. IT WON'T MOVE OVER A FEW MPH. THEN IF YOU SHIFT IT INTO NEUTRAL IT MAKES A LOUD NOISE AND THE WHOLE CAR JERKS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION IS ABOUT TO FALL OUT. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND STARTED IT AGAIN AND IT WILL NOT SHIFT RIGHT. YOU CAN FLOOR THE GAS AND IT BARELY MOVES THEN IT WILL COME OUT OF IT AND DRIVE FINE UNTIL YOU HAVE TO SIT IDLE AGAIN. WHEN TURNING ON THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS TO LOW SETTING, THEY INITIATE AT FULL SPEED WITH SMALL BREAKS IN BETWEEN GOING TO THE CORRECT SET WIPER SPEED. HAVE TO TURN OFF COMPLETELY SEVERAL TIMES IN ORDER FOR THE CORRECT SETTING TO REGISTER FINALLY. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HAS HARD SLIPPING SHIFTING GOING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOPPED POSITION, VERY SIMILAR TO THE FORD FOCUS POWERSHIFT TRANSMISSION RECALL

I HAVE AN ISSUE WITH MY 2012 FORD FUSION. A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO I HAD MY STEERING RACK REPLACED AS A PART OF THE MANUFACTURERS RECALL. HERE I AM A COUPLE OF YEARS LATER WITH A FORD FUSION WITH A FAILED STEERING RACK THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED ACCORDING TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. MY CAR NOW HAS NO POWER STEERING AND THE WARNING LIGHT FOR THE ADVANCETRACK SYSTEM HONKS AT ME EVERY TIME I START THE CAR. AFTER THE SCAN, THE DASH MESSAGE CENTER DISPLAYED THE MESSAGE: "SERVICE ADVANCETRAC". INTERMITTENT PROBLEM WITH NO OTHER ERROR MESSAGES AND APPEARS TO BE A COMMON ON FORD VEHICLES. SIMPLY RESTARTING THE VEHICLE SHOULD NOT ERASE THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION IF THIS OCCURS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS BECAUSE OF THE TOTAL LOSS OF POWER.

THIS ISSUE OCCURRED SELDOMLY AT FIRST, BUT WITHIN A MONTH THE CAR BECAME NON-DRIVEABLE DUE TO THE ISSUE OCCURRING EVERY FEW MINUTES WHILE DRIVING, WHICH PRESENTS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY HAZARD ESPECIALLY IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE TAKATA AIRBAG. THE ISSUE HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED BY A FORD DEALER AS A FAULTY ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. FORD HAD PREVIOUSLY ISSUED A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 13N03 TO SATISFY THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THIS SAME ISSUE, BUT THE PARAMETERS OF THE PROGRAM WERE SO NARROW THAT DESPITE THE VEHICLE POSSESSING THE SAME THROTTLE BODY AND WITHIN THE SAME MODEL YEAR AND MAKE, THE VEHICLE DOES NOT QUALIFY. THE PROGRAM ALSO EXPIRED QUICKLY DESPITE THE ISSUE PRESENTING ITSELF THROUGHOUT THE LIFETIME OF THE CAR WITH MANY WHO BOUGHT THESE VEHICLES USED.

FOR A WHILE KNOW MY CAR WOULD RANDOMLY STOP. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE, LUNGED FORWARD, AND JERKED WHILE IN MOTION OR MAKING A TURN. IN ADDITION, THE POWER TRAIN WARNING INDICATOR FLASHED SEVERAL TIMES. TWO DEALERS WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT THE DTC WAS NOT PRESENT; THEREFORE, THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE REPLICATED AND DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD A SERVICE CAMPAIGN, BUT REFUSED TO PROVIDE A SOLUTION. THE DEALER WOULD NOT REPLACE THE PART UNLESS THEY COULD DETERMINE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO ORDER THE PART FROM THE MANUFACTURER AND REPLACED THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT ISSUED A RECALL. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE13003 (ENGINE). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

I HAVE BROUGHT IN MY CAR TWICE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO COULD NOT FIND ANY ERROR MESSAGES ON THE COMPUTER. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP TO DO MORE DIAGNOSTICS. AFTER THE UPDATE THE CAR DID NOT DIE ANY LONGER BUT THAT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED I HAD TO COME IN. THE CAR WILL BOG DOWN WHEN YOU PRESS ON THE ACCELERATOR, IT WILL BOG DOWN THEN LURCH FORWARD. THE ISSUE IS WHEN STARTING FROM A STOP OR ANY TIME YOU ARE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE. THE SHIFTING OF GEARS SEEMS TO BE SLOW TO CHANGE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER AND I AM TOLD THEY CAN NOT REPEAT THE "ISSUE". I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH BRAKING AS WELL. THE CAR WHEN IN REVERSE ON AN INCLINE DID NOT WORK AND I ROLLED DOWN INTO THE STREET. I HAD THE BRAKES CHECKED AND AGAIN WAS TOLD THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO "REPEAT THE ISSUE". TRANSMISSION SHOULD NOT BE SET TO PARKING, IF SET TO PARKING THEN WE CANNOT MOVE TO NEUTRAL OR DRIVE. IT WILL BE STUCK AND TOW IS THE ONLY OPTION. 2. TURN LIGHTS WILL NOT WORK. 3. HEAD LIGHTS WILL NOT WORK. 4. DOOR GLASS SLIDING WILL NOT WORK. 5. AC WILL NOT WORK 6. CAR DISPLAY WILL NOT WORK FOR CLOCK AM/FM 2) WHILE STARTING THE CAR:- IF THE PROBLEM OCCURS WHILE STARTING THE CAR THEN I WILL BE ABLE TO ONLY START THE CAR AND THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WILL NOT WORK. WE CANNOT MOVE THE TRANSMISSION FROM PARKING TO NEUTRAL OR DRIVE. TOWING THE VEHICLE IS THE ONLY OPTION. THIS IS DANGEROUS WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT, I GOT THIS ISSUE ONE TIME AT NIGHT AND I GOT THE TOUGH TIME IN TOWING THE CAR AND GETTING TO SERVICE CENTRE. AS THE SERVICE CENTRE IS ALWAYS BUSY THEY WONT GET THE TIME TO DIAGNOSIS IMMEDIATELY AND AT THE TIME OF THEY CHECK IT WORK PROPERLY. ANY WAY THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO FIND ANY ISSUES WITH ME CAR. BUT WHEN I TAKE THE CAR BACK TO HOME THE ELECTRICAL ISSUE OFTEN OCCURS. NO ONE ASSURE OF THE SAFETY, AND I AM TRYING MY BEST TO DRIVE AT NIGHT AND HIGHWAYS. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.

THIS ALSO CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE FORWARD IN AN INCONSTANT MANNER (EXAMPLE - PUSHING ON THE GAS PEDAL THE SAME AMOUNT 2 DIFFERENT TIMES FROM A STOP RESULTED IN A JACK RABBIT START AND THE OTHER ACCELERATED MORE SMOOTHLY WITHOUT THE SUDDEN JOLT.) THE VEHICLE WILL DO THIS REPEATEDLY BUT ONLY IN LIGHT THROTTLE APPLICATIONS, 1/2 THROTTLE AND ABOVE THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS PERFECT. THE 6F35 TRANSMISSION SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR ISSUES AS THE 2010-2016 MODEL FUSION / ESCAPE VEHICLES HAVE THESE ISSUES WHEN SEARCHING FOR COMMON ISSUES OR REMEDIES FOR THE ISSUES I'VE EXPERIENCED.

WHILE MERGING ONTO A BUSY HIGHWAY IT BECAME NECESSARY TO SLOW DOWN TO APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH AND THEN TO SPEED UP TO ACHIEVE THE 55 MPH TRAVELING SPEED OF TRAFFIC THAT I WAS MERGING WITH, THE CAR HESITATED FOR SEVERAL SECONDS AND THEN "CLUNKED" INTO GEAR AND SPED UP WITH OVERDRIVE ENGAGED. THE TRAFFIC BEHIND AND NEXT TO ME WAS CONTINUING AT THE SPEEDS THEY WERE TRAVELING AT CAUSING A POTENTIAL COLLISION. THIS CONTINUES EVEN THOUGH I HAVE HAD MY DEALER CHECK OUT THE TRANSMISSION SEVERAL TIMES. IT APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WHEN MY CAR HAS TO DOWNSHIFT AND THEN IMMEDIATELY UPSHIFT TO ATTAIN SPEED QUICKLY AS WHEN THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME SLOWS PRIOR TO MERGING WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I HAVE NARROWLY AVOIDED A COLLISION THREE TIMES AS A RESULT OF THIS HESITATION.

AT FIRST THE RPM'S WOULD INCREASE ( AROUND 500 RPM'S) WHEN THE CAR UPSHIFTED WHEN IT WAS COLD. AS THE MOTOR AND TRANSMISSION WARMED UP THE INCREASE IN RPM'S UPON UPSHIFT LESSENED. IT APPEARED TO ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS "SLIPPING" AS IT WENT THROUGH THE GEARS...YOU COULD HEAR THE ENGINE SPEED UP AND WATCH THE TACH TO CONFIRM WHAT I WAS HEARING FROM THE ENGINE. I TOOK CAR TO DEALER AND THEY CHECKED IT OUT. THEY SAID EVERYTHING WAS FUNCTIONING NORMALLY HOWEVER THE CAR STILL DOES IT. NOTE THAT THE CAR WAS UNDER THE 3 YEAR BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY AT THE TIME AND THE SERVICE ADVISOR SAID THAT THE CAR HAS A 60K POWERTRAIN WARRANTY ANYWAY. I DID NOT LIKE HIS STATEMENT. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE AS IT SOMETIMES REVS BETWEEN SHIFTS WHEN IT IS WARMED UP. FORD SHOULD STEP UP AND REVIEW MY PROBLEM FURTHER. WHEN IT'S ACTING UP AND I LET OFF ACCELERATION, CAR STOPS ITSELF ABRUPTLY WITHOUT APPLYING BRAKE. EARLY THIS WEEK ME AND MY SON WERE STOPPED AT DRIVE THRU WINDOW (THANK GOD NOT AT A STOP LIGHT). WHEN I WENT TO ACCELERATE TO LEAVE, MY CAR WOULDN'T MOVE. EMBARRASSED I ACCELERATED HARDER AND FINALLY GOT IT MOVING BUT IT SOUNDED LIKE BRAKES WERE STICKING, I COULDN'T GO OVER 15 MPH, CAR WOULDN'T SHIFT WAS AT 3 RPM, AND ANY TIME I LET OFF GAS PEDAL THE CAR ABRUPTLY STOPPED DEAD IN TRACKS. TERRIFIED I DROVE CAR A FEW BLOCKS TO MY DAD AND AS I WAS PULLING INTO DRIVEWAY THEY FREED UP. WHEN THIS HAPPENS MY BRAKES GET REAL STIFF (HARD TO PRESS) HE COULD FEEL THE HEAT ROLLING OFF FRONT TIRES AND THEY SMELLED REALLY HOT. TOOK TO 3 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS AND NONE CAN FIND A CAUSE BECAUSE THE BRAKES AREN'T ACTING UP AT THAT POINT IN TIME. THEY NEED TO SEE IT IN ACTION BEFORE THEY CAN GET AN IDEA. SO HERE I AM 2 MONTHS NOW STILL DRIVING LIKE THIS. THIS HAPPENS AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK. COMES AND GOES. TODAY I HAD PCM UPDATED AND POWERTRAIN REPLACED AND AFTER THAT WHEN THE MECHANIC GOT IN CAR TO MOVE IT, IT DIDN'T WANT TO MOVE. HE DESCRIBED IT AS IT WAS LIKE HAVING NO POWER. THEY HOOKED IT UP AND IT SHOWED POWER TRAIN. SO THEY REPLACED IT. TRANSMISSION SHIFTS VERY HARD - PARTICULARLY AT LOWER GEARS (1ST TO 2ND, 2ND TO 3RD). IT IS A HARD ENOUGH SHIFT TO JOLT THE PASSENGERS AT TIMES. THIS HAPPENS WHETHER YOU ACCELERATE RAPIDLY OR SLOWLY. THE TRANSMISSION WAS EVALUATED AT TWO SEPARATE DEALERSHIPS SOON AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED (AS A CPO VEHICLE). THE SECOND EVALUATION WAS MEDIATED BY FORD CORPORATE CUSTOMER CARE. BOTH TIMES I WAS TOLD THAT THE HARD SHIFTING WAS "A KNOWN ISSUE" AND THAT ITS BEHAVIOR WAS TYPICAL FOR THIS 6F35 TRANSMISSION. ITS HARD TO BELIEVE THAT FORD WOULD KNOWINGLY ALLOW THIS ISSUE TO CONTINUE WITHOUT TRYING TO RESOLVE IT. MY PRIMARY CONCERN IS THAT THIS "KNOWN" ISSUE WILL CAUSE THE UNTIMELY FAILURE OF MY TRANSMISSION DUE TO THE HARD SHIFTING.

THE FIRST TIME I EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM, I WAS MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN AND IT FELT LIKE THE CAR WAS RUNNING ON A COUPLE OF CYLINDERS, VERY LOW POWER. I STOPPED AS SOON AS I COULD AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, RESTARTED IT AND EVERYTHING SEEM TO BE OK. EVERYTHING WAS FINE FOR ABOUT A MONTH, BUT WHILE ON A TRIP, I EXPERIENCE A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND UNRESPONSIVE THROTTLE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND EXPLAINED WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND THAT IT SOUNDED LIKE THE SAME PROBLEM MY SISTER-IN-LAW HAD EXPERIENCED WITH HER 2010 FUSION AND THAT AFTER A NUMBER OF TRIP AND PROBLEM REPEATED PROBLEMS THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY WHICH RESOLVED THE PROBLEM. IN MY CASE THE DEALER, EVEN THOUGH I EXPLAINED WHAT I HAD EXPERIENCED AND THAT I WAS AWARE OF A SERVICE BULLETIN FROM FORD FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM, SAID MY PROBLEM WAS A BAD BATTERY, WHICH THEY REPLACED AND RETURNED THE CAR TO ME. A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER I EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM A COUPLE OF TIMES AND IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AND THIS TIME THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. I HAVE SINCE DRIVEN THE CAR ABOUT 1500 MILES IN THE LAST TWO MONTHS WITHOUT A PROBLEM. MY SON IS NOW GOING THROUGH THE SAME PROBLEM WITH A 2011 ESCAPE HYBRID. HIS DEALER DID NOT REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY WHEN HE TOOK IT WITH THE SAME PROBLEM A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO, INSTEAD THEY CHARGED HIM A FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS TO "REMOVE CARBON BUILDUP" OR SOMETHING. TURNED IGNITION OFF AND BACK ON AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO DEALERSHIP WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. WAS TOLD A CHIP REPLACEMENT WAS ISSUED. REPLACED CHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT WOULD EXTEND THE WARRANTY AND RESOLVE ISSUE. ON THE DRIVE TO WORK THE FOLLOWING WEEK THE CAR STARTED SHIFTING HARD BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEARS AND SHUDDER WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A CRAWL AFTER ABOUT 5-10 MINUTES OF STOP AND GO TRAFFIC ON THE FREEWAY. THE PROBLEM IS NOT ALWAYS THERE IN NORMAL DRIVING WHEN SOME SPEED CAN BE REACHED FOR A TIME. BUT IT ALMOST ALWAYS SHOWS UP OR GET MUCH WORSE AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN IN SLOW MOVING OR STOP AND GO TRAFFIC OR AFTER IDLING HOT FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. TO ME THIS POINTS TO A DEFECT IN THE TRANSMISSION WHICH CAUSES FRICTION AND OVERHEATING CAUSING PREMATURE WEAR OF TRANSMISSION'S INTERNAL PARTS. I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED TO BE HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS ON A CAR WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE. I BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM A HERTZ DEALER 1 WEEK AGO WITH 45, 589K MILES BEFORE THE INDECENT HAPPENED AS FOLLOWS. I WAS DRIVING MY 2012 FORD FUSION SEL IN THE FAST LANE ON THE FREEWAY GOING APROX 70 MPH. THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND ENTERED INTO WHAT I ASSUME WAS SAFE MODE. THERE WAS NO THROTTLE RESPONSE AND THE CAR WAS AT 1K ROUGH IDLE. A WRENCH SYMBOL WAS SHOWN ON THE DISPLAY. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE AND HAD TO COAST ACROSS 4 LANES OF TRAFFIC WHILE LOSING SPEED. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SHOULDER IN TIME BEFORE I LOST ALL MOMENTUM. SECOND ATTEMPT TO TURN ON AND OFF THE CAR WORKED AND I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET OFF THE FREEWAY AND TAKE SIDE STREETS HOME. I WAS DRIVING TO WORK THIS MORNING, GOING 65MPH WHEN A CHIME GOES OFF. THERE IS AN AMBER LIGHT ON THE DASH AND WORDS ARE UNDER THE SPEEDOMETER SAYING "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" AND THEN "SERVICE ADVANCETRAC". I WAS ON A STRAIGHT STRETCH OF I-35, SO I DIDN'T REALIZE HOW BAD IT WAS UNTIL I CAME TO MY EXIT RAMP. IT WAS VERY STIFF. AT THE BOTTOM OF THE RAMP I NEEDED TO MAKE A SERIES OF MUCH SHARPER TURNS AND THAT'S WHEN I REALIZED HOW BAD IT WAS. I STOPPED AT A LIGHT AND PULLED OUT MY PHONE AND TOOK PICTURES OF WHAT IT WAS SHOWING. WHEN I GOT INTO WORK, I SENT THE PICTURE TO MY DEALER, WHO SAID THEY COULD LOOK AT IT, BUT THAT WAS AS FAR AS THEY WOULD COMMIT. I HAVE OWNED THE CAR FOR 20 DAYS AND OF COURSE THE 3/36,000 EXPIRED 2000 MILES AGO. I TURNED TO THE INTERNET AND FOUND QUITE A FEW COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME THING WITH NUMEROUS YEARS OF THE FUSION. IT APPEARS THAT A SHORT TERM FIX IS TO SHUT OFF THE CAR AND WHEN STARTED AGAIN, THE PROBLEM DISAPPEARS, BUT MAY OR MAY NOT POP UP AGAIN. NOT EXACTLY REASSURING, FORD MOTOR COMPANY. HOW MANY COMPLAINTS DOES IT TAKE FOR SOMETHING TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS? A CAR WITH 38,000 MILES HAVING AN ISSUE THAT COULD BE LIFE THREATENING SEEMS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE IN THIS DAY OF CAR COMPANIES KNOWING ABOUT PROBLEMS, YET DOING NOTHING AND THEN PAYING THE CONSEQUENCES LATER. THIS MODEL IS AN AWD MODEL. VEHICLE EMITS A FOUL 'NATURAL GAS' ODOR WHEN VEHICLE COMES TO A COMPLETE STOP AFTER ANY PERIOD OF DRIVING. THIS ODOR SMELLS EXACTLY LIKE THE FLUID INSIDE THE RDU. AT THE BEGINNING OF ACCELERATION, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS HARD. THE RPM'S GO ABOVE 3 AND THEN THERE IS A HARD SHIFT AND THE RPM'S GO DOWN TO 2 1/2 AND THEN FINALLY DOWN TO 1 1/2. POWERSHIFT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. WHEN ACCELERATING, VEHICLE LOSES POWER AND MAKES LOUD CLUNKING NOISE. HAD CAR IN ON SEPTEMBER 12 ON THE FIRST VISIT, THEY DID NOT FIND A PROBLEM; HOWEVER, I DO NOT THINK THEY LOOKED AT THE TRANSMISSION AS MY TICKET INDICATED THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR. THE CAR CONTINUED TO HAVE PROBLEMS. ON 10/19/12, THE PCM WAS REPROGRAMMED AND THEY SAID TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS LOW. VEHICLE HAD REGULAR OIL CHANGES THROUGH DEALER AND TRANSMISSION FLUID SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN LOW. THEY TOLD ME THE PROBLEM HAD BEEN FIXED BUT I WOULD STILL EXPERIENCE THE PROBLEM FOR A FEW MORE DAYS BECAUSE THE COMPUTER HAD TO ADJUST TO THE NEW SETTING. AFTER THIS, I CONTACTED ANOTHER FORD DEALER WHO TOLD ME THAT THIS PROBLEM WOULD CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE LIFETIME OF THE VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD I COULD TAKE IT IN, BUT IT WOULDN'T DO ANY GOOD. HE DID SEND ME A LIST OF OPERATING CHARACTERISTICS OF THE POWERSHIFT FOR THIS MODEL. THE PROBLEM DID CEASE AFTER A FEW DAYS; HOWEVER, IT HAS STARTED OCCURRING AGAIN. ON 1/8/13, IT MAKE A TERRIBLE NOISE AND LOST POWER AS I WAS TURNING A CORNER. IT HAD A PROBLEM AGAIN THIS MORNING WHILE ACCELERATING IN RUSH-HOUR TRAFFIC. USUALLY ABOUT A 2-3 SECOND DELAY BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION CAN FIND THE GEAR. THE CAR HAS DOWN THIS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AS WELL. EXTREMELY FRIGHTENING WHEN YOU GO TO PASS SOMEONE AND YOUR VEHICLE DOES NOT APPEAR ABLE TO FIND THE GEAR AND MAINTAIN SPEED. I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP ALMOST MONTHLY SINCE MARCH OF 2012 AND THE DEALER STATES THAT FORD SAID THAT IS JUST HOW THE VEHICLE SHIFTS. THE FAILURE RECURRED CONSISTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER THREE TIMES FOR THE DEFECT WHERE AN UNKNOWN REPAIR WAS PERFORMED REGARDING THE TRANSMISSION. THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100.

WHEN SHIFTING FROM FIRST GEAR TO SECOND GEAR THE CAR WILL VERY ROUGHLY GO INTO GEAR, AND SECOND TO THIRD AND THIRD TO FOURTH IS NOT MUCH BETTER. FROM FOURTH TO FIFTH AND FIFTH TO SIXTH IS FINE MOST OF THE TIME. I HAD TWO CALIBRATION UPDATES PERFORMED BY THE FORD DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM AND WAS TOLD TO DRIVE THE CAR AND LET THE UPDATE SET IN. AFTER BOTH TIMES I NOTICED THAT THE PROBLEM DID NOT GO AWAY, INSTEAD AFTER THE LAST UPDATE THE ISSUE PROGRESSED. I HAVE PLEADED WITH THE DEALERSHIP TO TRADE MY CAR FOR ANOTHER FUSION (SAME VALUE) AND THEY TOLD ME I HAD TOO MUCH NEGATIVE EQUITY. INSTEAD I WAS TOLD I COULD GET A FORD FOCUS AND HOW EVER MUCH I AM "UPSIDE DOWN" THEY WOULD ROLL IT OVER TO THE PRICE OF THE FOCUS. I TOLD THEM THAT WASN'T FAIR AND THAT I WANTED ANOTHER FUSION THAT DID NOT HAVE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. I WAS TOLD THAT PLANET FORD COULD NOT HELP ME AND I SHOULD GET ANOTHER OPINION IF I WAS UNHAPPY. SO I WENT TO ANDERSON FORD AND HAD THE MECHANICS RUN DIAGNOSTICS ON IT TO SEE IF THEY COULD IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM. WHILE ANDERSON FORD WAS DIAGNOSING MY CAR I WAS GIVEN A RENTAL FUSION THAT WAS SO MUCH BETTER THAN MY CAR AS FAR AS SHIFTING. I ALSO WAS SPEAKING WITH FORD CUSTOMER CARE ABOUT MY ISSUE AND WENDY (CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER) TOLD ME THAT IF ANDERSON FORD DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG I WAS GOING TO BE STUCK WITH THAT CAR. ANDERSON FORD REPORTED THAT NO WARNING CODES COULD BE FOUND AND THE CAR WAS FINE. I TOLD THEM THE DIFFERENCE I NOTICED IN DRIVING THE RENTAL FUSION AND MY FUSION AND THE SERVICE MANAGER DISREGARDED IT. I WAS GIVEN MY CAR BACK AND WAS TOLD IF I WAS NOT COMFORTABLE WITH IT I NEEDED TO TRADE IT IN AND DEAL WITH THE NEGATIVE EQUITY. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH SEVERAL DEALERS ABOUT DIFFERENT CARS AND I AM UNABLE TO TRADE MY CAR IN BECAUSE I HAVE TOO MUCH NEGATIVE EQUITY. I'M HAVING SEVERAL TRANSMISSION ISSUES. MY VEHICLE "SLAMS" INTO GEAR WHEN SHIFTING INTO DRIVE/REVERSE FROM A PARKED POSITION. THE SECOND ISSUE IS "HARD" SHIFTS IN LOW GEARS (1-4). THIS GIVES THE SENSATION OF BEING REAR ENDED. THIRDLY I AM EXPERIENCING "FLARE" SHIFTING IN GEARS 4-6. IN THIS CASE THE RPM'S REV BEFORE DUMPING INTO THE NEXT GEAR WHICH ALSO GIVES A HARD SHIFT SENSATION. THE 4TH ISSUE I AM EXPERIENCING IS A "STUTTER" WHEN ACCELERATION. IF I ATTEMPT TO PASS A CAR OR SIMPLY SPEED UP, THERE IS A HESITATION WHICH I FEEL IS A SAFETY CONCERN. LASTLY AND THE MOST DISTURBING TRANSMISSION ISSUE IS "DOWN SHIFTING". SOMETIMES WHEN I HAVE THE CAR IN CRUISE CONTROL ON THE HIGHWAY AND TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (55-65MPH) THE VEHICLE DOWN SHIFTS ALL ON IT'S OWN AND I FIND MYSELF DOING 55-65 IN A LOWER GEAR WITH THE RPM'S THROUGH THE ROOF! TAPPING THE GAS AND/OR BRAKE WILL DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL BUT STILL WILL NOT ALLOW THE CAR TO SHIFT TO THE APPROPRIATE GEAR. FINALLY AFTER COASTING FOR A WHILE IT WILL THEN SHIFT TO THE APPROPRIATE GEAR AND AS WITH ALL MY OTHER PROBLEMS, IT INVOLVES A "HARD DUMP" INTO GEAR. MY BRAND NEW CAR, IN MY POSSESSION FOR 7 DAYS HAD TO GET TOWED TO THE SHOP. MY 11 MONTH OLD DAUGHTER AND 2 MONTH OLD NIECE WERE IN THIS CAR WHEN IT SUDDENLY STALLED AND JERKED. I WAS ALMOST HIT FROM BEHIND AND HAD TO PULL OVER AND DRIVE JERKING BACK AROUND THE BLOCK TO MY STARTING POINT. LUCKILY I WASN'T ON THE FREEWAY AT A HIGH SPEED BUT I COULD HAVE BEEN. THIS IS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE AS THE ACCELERATION IS AFFECTED BY THE THROTTLE BODY WHICH HAD MALFUNCTIONED. WHILE APPROACHING A ROLL-THROUGH TOLL BOOTH, THE CAR LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE; BOTH THE WRENCH LIGHT AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I PUT ON THE EMERGENCY HAZARDS AND COASTED TO A MIDDLE ISLAND AFTER GOING THROUGH A TOLL BOOTH. THE CAR CONTINUED TO IDLE, BUT WAS NON-RESPONSIVE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. AFTER MAKING SOME CALLS FOR A TOW (1 1/2 HOUR WAIT DUE TO 100+ TEMPS), I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND WAITED SEVERAL MINUTES. THE CAR RESTARTED AND APPEARED TO "RESET", AS BOTH THE WRENCH AND ENGINE LIGHT SYMBOLS WERE NO LONGER ILLUMINATED. AFTER TRAVELING 500 YARDS OR SO, I SWITCHED THE A/C BACK ON (NOTE: A/C WAS ON AT TIME OF MALFUNCTION.) ALMOST IMMEDIATELY, THE CAR BEGAN TO BOG AND IDLE ROUGHLY, AND AGAIN LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. I AGAIN WENT INTO HAZARD WARNING/COAST TO THE SHOULDER MODE, TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, WAITED A FEW MINUTES, AND RESTARTED THE CAR. IT AGAIN "RESET", BUT THIS TIME THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON (HOPEFULLY SOMETHING WAS RECORDED, AS WITH SOME OTHER COMPLAINTS I'VE READ THIS DIDN'T OCCUR). I STARTED MY JOURNEY HOME AGAIN, THIS TIME WITHOUT A/C, AND IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER (DID I MENTION THAT I'M A LIFELONG GM GUY AND THIS IS MY FIRST FORD?) UPON CONTACTING THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY (BROUGHT IT IN LATE ON A FRIDAY AFTERNOON), WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY AND ACCOMPANYING MOTOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. WHEN ASKED IF THIS WAS AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM FOR A RELATIVELY NEW VEHICLE WITH 25,000 MILES, HE SEEMED TO INDICATE THAT THEY'RE MADE OF PLASTIC AND MASS PRODUCED, SO LIKELY AFFECTING QUALITY - NICE. ON TOP OF THAT, THEY DON'T HAVE THE PARTS IN STOCK, SO I'LL HAVE TO WAIT 'TIL MONDAY FOR THE REPAIRS TO BE COMPLETE. YOU'D THINK THE DEALERS WOULD KNOW BY NOW. STARTING AROUND 7000MI, VEHICLE STARTED TO SHIFT ERRACTIALLY IN TRAFFIC BETWEEN 1-2 AND 2-1, WITH A SUDDEN AND MODERATELY VIOLENT LURCH FORWARDS DURING SHIFTING. VEHICLE WAS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL IN LOW-SPEED (PRIMARILY ACCELERATION FOLLOWING ANY PERIOD OF COASTING) SCENARIOS AND REQUIRED ADDITIONAL FOLLOWING DISTANCE TO ACCOUNT FOR THIS. VEHICLE BECAME MUST HARSHER ON THE 1-2 SHIFT IN COLD WEATHER. BY 8000-9000MI, VEHICLE DEVELOPED SLIPPING. THIS WAS PARTICULARLY EVIDENT AT LOWER SPEEDS FROM 2-3, SUCH AS AT A ROLLING YIELD BELOW 10MPH. VEHICLE WOULD MOMENTARILY LOSE ALMOST ALL POWER DURING CERTAIN 2-3 SHIFTS, REQUIRING ACCELERATION PLANNING FOR INTERSECTIONS, TO PREVENT SLUGGISHNESS AT AN INOPPORTUNE TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING BUT THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70.

ON JANUARY 2ND, 2012 ON 2-SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE ENGINE ACCELERATED TO ALMOST 6000 RPM WHILE I WAS STOPPED OR NEARLY STOPPED WHILE PARKING THE CAR. THE CAR WAS IN DRIVE AND I HAD MY RIGHT FOOT ON THE BRAKE BUT THE ENGINE ACCELERATION HAPPENED VERY QUICKLY AND ON THE SECOND INCIDENT THE BRAKES WERE NOT HOLDING THE CAR. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE TRANS INTO NEUTRAL UNTIL THE ACCELERATION DIED DOWN TO THE NORMAL RPM. ON THE SECOND OCCASION I SHUT THE IGNITION OFF 2-TIMES BEFORE THE ACCELERATION STOPPED. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH PRIOR CARS AND THE MANUFACTURERS HAVE HAD NO SYSTEM IN PLACE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND BECAUSE IT IS A RANDOM EVENT IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO REPLICATE. BECAUSE OF LITIGATION IN ACCIDENT CASES I BELIEVE THE MANUFACTURERS ARE IN DENIAL OF THIS ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. *TR
