The door locks on the driver and passenger doors open on their own and not working properly. Car has 53000 original miles. It is just like the problem that are in the recall of the 2014 and 2015 Ford Fusion. The latch on both doors are independently sprung in open mode. One incident where the driver door opened while driving.

The electric power steering assist (EPSA) function of the car is no longer functional. It is available for inspections upon request. The vehicle began intermittently losing power steering when the vehicle would start. The problem can now be re-produced each time the vehicle is started. The problem is a known issue with this model Ford Fusion and was part of a previous recall. This vehicle was serviced by the Ford dealership during the times the recall was in place and had the EPSA re-programmed. The issue still persists, and the vehicle is unsafe to drive. The recall is no longer in effect and Ford will not remedy the issue.

A few days ago, I drove my car to college and on my way there, a message about the Service Advancetrac popped up on the dashboard. I parked my car, and when I was done with my classes, I returned to my car and turned the ignition on. At that point, another message appeared on the dashboard: SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW, and my steering wheel became hard to maneuver. Despite the difficulty, I was able to drive home safely.

I HAD A FLAT TIRE AND EVER SENSE I GOT TIRE FIXED MY TRANCTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON AND MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT. I CALLED ABOUT THE RECALL BUT THEY SAID MY CAR WASNT COVERED .. I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY FORD ISNT FIXING THEM CAUSE FROM WHAT IVE READ ALOT OF FORDS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND IM ON A FIXED INCOME HOW WILL I AFFORD TO FIX MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPARTATION?

The braking system failed. Yes it’s available upon request for inspection. The safety of myself and others were put at risk because it caused me to hit something in front of me. I stepped on the brakes and the pedal went straight to the floor. This has happened multiple times it is putting my safety as well as my children’s safety at risk. When I step on the brake pedal there is nothing goes to the floor till I pump the pedal. Initial Lu when hitting the pedal it jerks the steering wheel out of my hand to the right every time. It’s not only putting my children’s, and my self in harms way but any other driver that might be even near me while driving considering it takes the steering wheel out of my hand uncontrollably.

Door handle failures (inside the vehicle) are very well documented and very well known to break off the mechanism required to open the door. This isn't just a minor annoyance, it is a MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD, caused by either poor design, poor materials, poor process control, poor validation testing, poor part quality or poor management in concealing this as not being worthy of a recall. How many lives are you willing to risk before doing a recall? The problem has been well known & documented for well over a decade, and it is still happening in the field. If someone has not died from this door lever failure it is only a matter of time. My family's lives are in jeopardy every time we drive this vehicle with a known likelihood of the door handles failing to open the door. You may not be able to open any other door, depending on the damage from an auto accident, but Ford has not taken responsibility for this high-risk to life and limb of its occupants. For such a cheap injection molded plastic part with no glass-fill, it is apparent that you went with the cheapest material possible. You've done it for over a DECADE and choose to ignore the problem until someone sues you or dies as a result of this safety problem. Whether it is a knitline defect you have no process controls to prevent part weakness, or the excessively small part fillet, or the material thickness, subpar material properties or molded part process flow problems, Ford is clearly cutting corners on the design & manufacturing of well documented and well known failures in the field. This is unacceptable, requiring your customers to waste over $200 every time it breaks, all the while being unconcerned about the serious safety risk to occupants in your vehicles. This is the problem with unethical engineering and business practices in the automobile industry. You will be held accountable only when someone dies from your decades of negligence & disregard for the safety of your customers.

Did not put car into park and was able to turn key fully back and remove the key from the off position. Car started rolling on slight incline. No issues other than rain sensor wipers not always working, so maybe an issue in column. Have not taken to dealership or mechanic yet.

My drivers side door handle will only work from the outside I was told to contact the highway safety admin because it’s technically a safety issue if I had and emergency and had to hurry up and exit my vehicle. It’s like jammed or something and doesn’t lock until I manually lock an lock my door but I’m unable to get out from the inside safety and I was already in a car accident once in my life I would really like to get my door handle fixed please

Power Steering Assist Fault and Service Advancetrack error codes appear on the digital dash display. Power steering does not work. The Ford dealership the vehicle was bought at and is serviced at allowed me to drive out of the lot in the car's current state because the vehicle is 7 months out of the extended warranty 10-year recall.

Driver’s side door latch/handle suddenly became unoperational from the interior of the vehicle. This is a safety hazard — after struggling with the handle to get out of the vehicle, my wife resorted to climbing over the console and exiting out the passenger door. Called local Ford dealer and they say because the 2012 door latch is not under recall, they won’t replace the handle without us paying parts and labor. They expressed no interest in exploring this safety issue short of us bankrolling the cost, despite the fact that there are recalls for this same safety defect on Fusions in other production years. The 2012 door latch should be recalled. The handle is toast - we cannot exit our Fusion out the driver’s door. We are ordering a part to replace the latch, performing the labor ourselves.

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at 30 MPH, the power steering assist failed, and the steering wheel was difficult to maneuver. The contact pulled over and parked the vehicle in a parking lot where it remained. The dealer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering) had expired for the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 194,790.

Started the vehicle, immediately received a prompt informing me that the power steering needed to be serviced. The steering wheel is completely stiff, rendering the vehicle inoperable. According to NHSTA, there was a recall issued for this issue however my VIN number does not fall under the recall. Initial estimates range from 1500, to 2000. It is a known issue for 2012 ford fusions, yet my vehicle does not qualify for the recall. Which seems very unreasonable.

Electric power steering assist fault. Had power steering one minute and the next minute it is extremely difficult to steer. Called Ford and told them the issue. They said that the recall for this had been done already. They downloaded new programming, but never changed the part. Then they put an extended manufacturer warranty to 150,000 miles. Incident happened just over the extended warranty period and have done research on many complaints about the same issue. Ford refuses to do anything about it and repair costs are over $2,000.00. This is extremely dangerous and may cause serious injury or even death at higher speeds. Luckily no one was hurt this time.

The powersteering fault was never taken care of when we went to get it fixed at the dealership. We had taken it in because it was a recall error and because the fault "didn't show up" when they were trying to fix it they said that they couldn't do anything about it and returned the car to us in less than one day which the work that was actually required would have taken longer to do. We didn't know what to do or how else to complain but now the vehicle is permanently stuck with this error and wont budge.

2012 Ford Fusion SE 4cyl 81,782 miles Power Steering Rack failure - Hazardous situation without previous system degradation, warning or indication. Loss of steering control, not able to steer, steering wheel would not turn without using great force. After engine stop and restart, the dash lamps were illuminated: Fault Lamp = Service Power Steering Now Fault Lamp = Service Advancetrac System Problem happened during a vacation road trip in the mountains of Kentucky. The vacation was interrupted. The car towed to Greenwood Ford dealership in Bowling Green KY. Fault not covered under recall or warranty. Steering rack replaced at a cost of $3200. Ouch. will it happen again? Dealer could not return failed parts to me without additional $1500 core charge paid by me. We also paid towing and rental car costs. The same failure is happening to many 2012 Ford Fusions.

Our 2012 Ford Fusion began displaying a “POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT” summer of 2021. We did not record the 1st instance of this fault, but began recording subsequent instances on 7/25, 10/18, 10/20, 10/21 On 10/21 the vehicle also displayed “SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC.” We were unable to steer the car when the fault occurred, although we were able to put it in reverse or drive, which seems extremely dangerous. Fortunately, these instances occurred while parked. The vehicle ignition was turned off and restarted, which cleared the fault & power steering resumed. This vehicle had less than 69,000 on Aug 4, 2021 when taken to Courtesy Ford in Portland, OR where the vehicle was purchased to replace the driver side airbag under recall notice received in the mail. We had them investigate the power steering assist fault during the same service. We were advised that the Ford mechanic was “Unable to duplicate customers concern” and “No fault codes in the system.” The vehicle was then taken to Damerow Ford in Beaverton, OR on 11/18/21. The next day, 11/19/2021, we were advised of an electrical problem in the steering assembly. We were told that it needed to be replaced along with some bolts and nuts. The invoice indicates that the steering gear assembly was replaced & gear was programmed. The bill came to over $2205.62. We’ve discovered through an online search that Ford is well aware of this problem & has been for years. We’ve been told by both dealers our VIN number is not included in the recall and the extended warranty for this issue, which makes no sense. Fortunately, we did not experience the lack of steering while driving, as others have. Our lives & vehicle & the lives and property of others on and along the roadways we have traveled were jeopardized with a well known safety issue & Ford Motor Company is not standing behind their product. Do we have recourse for reimbursement from Ford Motor Company through the NTSB for this unethical corporate behavior?

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that after parking and exiting the vehicle, the vehicle was rolling away. The contact jumped back into the vehicle and restarted the vehicle and then depressed the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. In addition, the contact noticed that the shifter was in park however, the gear shift indicator displayed that the vehicle was in reverse. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact who is a mechanic, diagnosed that the shifter cable needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

On 1/25/21 the vehicle power steering completely locked up and the car was towed to Ford dealership for fix. Ford fixed and car was picked up on 1/27/21. This happened at mileage of 67593 while my teenage son was driving putting him and his passenger in danger of an accident. On 9/13/21 once again the vehicle power steering completely locked up and the car was towed to a Ford dealership to fix and car was picked up on 9/16/21. This event happened at mileage of 74341 again while my teenage son was driving putting him and his passenger in danger of an accident. On 10/11/21 for the 3rd time the power steering went again and the car is currently at a Ford dealership to be fixed. This time the mileage is at 74544 and again my son was driving this vehicle putting him in danger of having an accident. On all 3 of these instances the warning lamp came on immediately before the loss of power steering. My concern is clearly the fix being performed is not solving the problem, putting my teenage son at risk of an accident.

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering and excessive force was needed to steer the vehicle. The contact also stated that the traction control, power steering, and tire pressure warning lights were illuminated. The contact pulled over and restarted the vehicle; however, the failure persisted. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to a dealer where they informed him that his vehicle was previously included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering). The contact was provided an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided the contact the same information as the dealer. The contact stated that only a software update was performed with the prior recall and that no actual repairs were performed on the power steering. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

Unknown Front driver side tire came off the car causing the vehicle to crash into a wall passenger side airbag malfunction Thankfully my girlfriend had the seat all the way to the back and was laying down when the accident occurred. THE INSIDE DRIVERS DOOR HANDLE BREAKS AND MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO EXIT THE CAR WITHOUT ROLLING DOWN THE WINDOW AND USING THE OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE. I STOPPED TO GET GAS, PUT MY CAR IN PARK, AND SHUT THE CAR OFF. IT STARTED ROLLING FORWARD AS I WAS TRYING TO GET OUT. I LEAPED BACK IN AND HIT THE BRAKE AND PUT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON. AFTER THAT, THE CAR WOULDN'T START BECAUSE IT WAS REGISTERING THAT THE CAR WAS IN REVERSE EVEN THOUGH THE GEAR SHIFT WAS IN PARK. I WENT INTO THE GEAR SHIFT AREA BY PULLING OFF THE CENTER CONSOLE AND MANUALLY PUT IT IN NEUTRAL SO I COULD START THE CAR AND DROVE IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO LOOK AT IT. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND SAW THAT SIMILAR ISSUES WERE FOUND IN 2013 AND NEWER FORD FUSIONS AND THEY WERE RECALLED. I'M THINKING THE 2012 YEAR FORD FUSION SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL.

THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE CAN CAN BREAK INTERNALLY WHEN EXPOSED TO HIGH TEMPERATURES SUCH AS A HOT SUMMER DAY ON A REGULAR BASIS. THE PLASTIC USED OFF-GASES AND LOSES STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OVER TIME UNFIL FAILURE OCCURS POTENTIALLY TRAPPING A PERSON WHO IS UNABLE TO REACH THE EXTERIOR HANDLE IN THE VEHICLE. ACCORDING TO MY RESEARCH THIS IS A PATTERN OF HAPPENINGS WITH THE 2012 FORD FUSION DUE TO A CHANGE BY FORD IN DOOR HANDLE CONSTRUCTION. REPAIRS ARE OFTEN INEFFECTIVE AS IT IS REPLACED WITH A SIMILAR PART THAT FAILS IN THE SAME MANNER.

I HAD A LEAK UNDER THE FRONT OF THE CAR, STAINING MY DRIVEWAY. EVEN AFTER HAVING THE PTU REPLACED, I STILL HAD A LEAK. I ONLY REALIZED IT WAS LEAKING WHEN I HAD TO PARK IN A DIFFERENT LOCATION IN MY DRIVEWAY. I BROUGHT IT TO ANOTHER GARAGE. FOUND OUT THAT THE TRANSMISSION TUBE WERE RUSTED, THUS LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID. THE GARAGE REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION TUBES, AND REPLACED ALL THE FLUID.

IVE BEEN TOLD THE PARTS WERE ON ORDER, THE PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE, THERE WERE FAR TOO MANY RECALLS AND THE DEALERSHIP COULDNT MERT THE DEMAND, AND ALSO COMPLETELY FORGOTTEN ALTOGETHER! DEALERSHIP WAS SUPPOSED TO CALL US TO FIX THIS AFTER FAILED APPOINTMENTS AND NEVER FOLLOWED THROUGH. MY CAR WAS JUST UPDATED WITH A $300 VALUE LOSS BECAUSE OF IT. THIS CAR IS COMPLETELY PAID OFF.

I CAN'T GET OUT OF MY FORD FUSION, I'VE TRIED THE DRIVER'S DOOR HANDLE, AND IT WON'T OPEN THE DOOR, TOOK TO FORD DEALER, THEY TOLD ME DOOR HANDLE IS BROKEN, NOT UNDER WARRANTEE, I'VE BARELY HAD MY CAR 2 MONTHS, TRIED ROLLING DOWN DRIVER'S WINDOW, AND THE DOOR LOCK HAS JAMMED, TWICE, CAUSING ME A LIFE DEATH SITUATION, WHERE, I WAS LITERALLY TRAPPED IN MY CAR FOR 25 MINUTES, TWICE, NO PHONE OR WATER, AND PASSERBY'S DIDN'T WANT TO GET INVOLVED, JUST TO HELP ME GET MY DOOR UNJAMMED. I WAS SWEATING PROFUSELY, I HAD TO CRAWL OVER THE SHIFTER AND EMERGENCY BRAKE JUST TO GET TO THE PASSENGER DOOR TO GET TO SAFETY, AND WITH A LUMBAR BRACE ON FOR MY 9 COMPRESSED DISCS IN MY BACK AND 7 IN MY NECK, I WAS REALLY SCARED THAT I WOULD DIE IN MY CAR. IT TOOK ME 15 MINUTES TO GET TO THE PASSENGER DOOR AND IN TWICE AD MUCH PAIN TWISTING MY BACK AND NECK, I WAS ON THE VERGE OF HEAT EXHAUSTION FROM A HOT CAR IN AZ WHERE THE OUTSIDE TEMPS GET OVER 108 DEGREES IN THE SUMMERTIME. I WAS DRIPPING WET WHEN I FINALLY FOUND A WAY OUT OF MY CAR. THIS DOOR HANDLE ISN'T COVERED UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTEE, AND IT SHOULD BE, FOR PEOPLE ON LOW INCOME SITUATIONS, OR HAVE A RECALL ON THE DOOR LOCK AND HANDLE SITUATION, BECAUSE IT'S A MANUFACTURES DEFECT, BUT, FORD WON'T ADMIT THAT THEY HAVE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE DO IT HANDLES BREAKING AND TRAPPING PEOPLE IN THEIR CARS. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL, SO FORD CAN BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR DEFECT AND REDESIGN IT DIFFERENTLY SO THE DOOR HANDLES DON'T BREAK,AND TRAP PEOPLE IN THEIR CARS. MY CAR IS NOW DANGEROUS TO ME, I CAN'T GET OUT OF IT SAFELY WITHOUT HURTING MYSELF, AND THAT'S VERY, VERY BAD. I DON'T WANT TO DIE IN A HOT CAR IN AZ, THAT'S A SLOW DEATH. PURCHASED A 2012 FUSION SEL WITH 35XXX MILES IN FEB16. DURING THE SUMMER OF 2016, THE A/C BLOWER BEGAN TO FUNCTION INTERMITTENTLY ' MANIPULATION OF THE WIRE HARNESS SUPPLYING POWER TO THE RESISTOR WOULD CAUSE THE BLOWER TO TURN ON/OFF. THE BLOWER ONLY RAN AT ONE SPEED (I.E. THE RESISTOR WAS BAD). THE BLOWER AND RESISTOR WERE REPLACED. THE ISSUE IS ONCE AGAIN OCCURRING AT ~80,000 MILES. THIS IS A WELL-DOCUMENTED COMPLAINT (BLOWER PULL TOO MUCH CURRENT AND FRIES THE RESISTOR) WITH THIS VEHICLE AND, OFTENTIMES, FORD DEALERS ARE ONLY REPLACING/REPAIRING THE BLOWER AND RESISTOR. HOWEVER, IN MY EXPERIENCE (AND LIKELY MANY OTHERS), THE WIRE HARNESS ALSO NEEDED TO BE REPLACED TO CORRECT THE ISSUE AS CONTINUITY THROUGH THE WIRING IS ALSO AFFECTED WHEN THIS ISSUE FIRST OCCURS. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT FORD IS NOT ADDRESSING. FURTHERMORE, THEIR DEALERSHIPS/SERVICE CENTER PERSONNEL ARE NOT ADEQUATELY EDUCATED ON HOW TO PERMANENTLY CORRECT THIS ISSUE (THIS IS EVIDENT BY THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS THAT REFERENCE THE ISSUE RECURRING AFTER ONLY THE BLOWER MOTOR AND RESISTOR ARE REPLACED). THEY ARE CHARGING FUSION OWNERS $500+ TO PUT A TEMPORARY BAND AID ON AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE WELL UNDERSTOOD BY NOW.

FAILURE OF INSIDE DOOR HANDLE TO FACILITATE OPENING OF DOOR WILL PROHIBIT TIMELY EGRESS OF VEHICLE IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY. NEIGHBORS CAME TO HELP, TURNED OF THE CAR AND TURNED IT BACK ON AGAIN TO TRY AND OPEN THE ROOF, BUT IT WOULD NOT OPEN TO RELEASE HER FINGERS. CROWBARS WERE USED TO TRY AND RELEASE THE FRAME FROM HER HAND, BUT IT WOULD NOT BUDGE. POLICE HAD TO BREAK THE GLASS OF THE SUNROOF TO RELEASE THE FRAME FROM HER HAND. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. IF A CHILD'S HAND WOULD HAVE BEEN CAUGHT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN CRUSHED. THEY NEED TO HAVE AN EMERGENCY SENSER TO NEVER CLOSE AND LOCK IN PLACE IF THERE IS AN OBSTRUCTION, OR AN EMERGENCY RELEASE. NOW, MY MOTHER HAS TO FACE MEDICAL AND INSURANCE COSTS. I TYPE THIS IN HER PRESENCE ON HER BEHALF, DUE TO HER RIGHT FINGERS BEING INJURED. WITH THE GRACE OF GOD, NO BONES WERE BROKEN. I TOOK CAR TO DEALER AND THEY CHECKED IT OUT. THEY SAID EVERYTHING WAS FUNCTIONING NORMALLY HOWEVER THE CAR STILL DOES IT. NOTE THAT THE CAR WAS UNDER THE 3 YEAR BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY AT THE TIME AND THE SERVICE ADVISOR SAID THAT THE CAR HAS A 60K POWERTRAIN WARRANTY ANYWAY. I DID NOT LIKE HIS STATEMENT. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE AS IT SOMETIMES REVS BETWEEN SHIFTS WHEN IT IS WARMED UP. FORD SHOULD STEP UP AND REVIEW MY PROBLEM FURTHER. SO I WENT TO ANDERSON FORD AND HAD THE MECHANICS RUN DIAGNOSTICS ON IT TO SEE IF THEY COULD IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM. WHILE ANDERSON FORD WAS DIAGNOSING MY CAR I WAS GIVEN A RENTAL FUSION THAT WAS SO MUCH BETTER THAN MY CAR AS FAR AS SHIFTING. I ALSO WAS SPEAKING WITH FORD CUSTOMER CARE ABOUT MY ISSUE AND WENDY (CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER) TOLD ME THAT IF ANDERSON FORD DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG I WAS GOING TO BE STUCK WITH THAT CAR. ANDERSON FORD REPORTED THAT NO WARNING CODES COULD BE FOUND AND THE CAR WAS FINE. I TOLD THEM THE DIFFERENCE I NOTICED IN DRIVING THE RENTAL FUSION AND MY FUSION AND THE SERVICE MANAGER DISREGARDED IT. I WAS GIVEN MY CAR BACK AND WAS TOLD IF I WAS NOT COMFORTABLE WITH IT I NEEDED TO TRADE IT IN AND DEAL WITH THE NEGATIVE EQUITY. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH SEVERAL DEALERS ABOUT DIFFERENT CARS AND I AM UNABLE TO TRADE MY CAR IN BECAUSE I HAVE TOO MUCH NEGATIVE EQUITY. PLEASE HELP ME ON THISISSUE SO I CAN GET A CAR THAT OPERATES CORRECTLY.
