1. After vehicle is given gas it won’t crank. 2. Tire sensors won’t turn off. Even with brand new tires and mounts. 3. Random electrical malfunctions. (Flickering dash lights, delayed engine start after turning the key, light bouncing back and forth between gears, etc.)
I had coolant leaking in my 2013 Ford Fusion SE 1.6L causing a misfire in cylinder 3 from diagnostics code P0303. After going to a repair shop on 3 seperate occasions and paying to fix issues thought to remedy the issue, I had the Ford dealership in Hudson WI look at it while they took care of a recall. They quoted me $9,900 to replace the engine due to a cracked block. It was hard to get a response from the technician and they were really unprofessional towards me when I requested the part numbers. So much time has been spent on this not to mention that I have been without a vehicle for 1.5 years because my inability to cover additional repairs or the cost of a new car. I also lost my job due to my transportation issues, and paid over $19,000 for this vehicle. I wish Ford would issue a recall because this is a very common issue for this make and model. 2013 Ford Fusion SE L4 1.6L (102K miles)
Two recalls for this make year and model car had been recalled previously but not for my VIN specifically and the issues are appearing. The first is “doors may open driving” recall on your website and the second is “engine cylinder head may leaks oil” which is also on ur website. Both were recalled for this make and year of the ford fusion but not for my VIN so ford is stating they cannot fix it and want to charge me even for a diagnostic.
The purge valve is likely malfunctioning, which affects the fuel system. Yes, it is available for inspection upon request. The malfunction caused the vehicle not to start after pumping gas, potentially leaving me stranded in unsafe locations, which could be hazardous, especially in high-traffic areas or remote locations. The issue has not yet been officially reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. No, the vehicle or component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. There were no warning lamps or messages before the failure. The issue first appeared when the vehicle failed to start immediately after refueling.
Coolant leaks and never fills the reservoir.
As I was going down the highway my car started smoking dramatically. There were no warning lights so I assumed it might be a belt. I pulled to the side of the road and opened the hood to find flames coming from the backside of the engine. I have had it in the shop now for the last two months and the initial thought was that the water pump could have caused the issue. However, after that set of repairs it was burning oil. Further investigation has shown that the head is cracked.
My fuel tank has an excessive build up of gasses and it causes a loud burping noise at the fuel door flap. I do have a Video of this incident.
I’ve received a letter in March regarding this safety recalls and I not been contacted by the manufacturer for any remedy. I have not had this vehicle for a full six months. Now the break fluids leaks, there’s an issue with a gasket, and I cannot longer drive vehicle due to the smell of something burning. The recall states it’s an increasing risk of a crash. I have to search for transportation to and from work because I refuse to cause harm to myself or others. Safety Risk IF THE BRAKE FLUID LEAKS, YOUR VEHICLE MAY EXPERIENCE AN INCREASE IN BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL TOGETHER WITH A REDUCTION IN THE RATE OF DECELERATION OVER TIME, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. Ford should provide another vehicle as a loaner until this issue has been resolved.
An unknown component of the fuel system is faulty, causing a very strong odor of fuel to enter the cabin upon starting up, as well as when coming to a stop & idling. The manufacturer has not inspected the vehicle, but an automotive technician confirmed the odor and attempted to remedy the problem by replacing the evaporative system lines, with no change. Fuel lines and tank/vent were inspected, with no fault found. The odor can cause a feeling of illness & headache when driving. It is unknown if there is a leak which could lead to a fire. No warning lamps.
When putting gas and or driving in low idle car stalls As if the fuel pump is bad
2013 Ford Fusion with 99,799 miles on it; went out to go start it after work one day, unable to get into car or start car as battery was completely drained. Did not leave lights on etc. Had someone jump car; on way to repair shop, car shut down and would not restart; thankfully I was NOT on a highway. Since that time, it has had 2 new batteries placed in it, will run for about 5 minutes then shut off and you cannot restart it again; it has also been to 2 repair shops and is presently at the Ford dealership as my shop was not able to determine what was wrong. Cooling fan also noted to be running after car died yet still not able to restart. Read on Ford forums that this has happened to other Fusion owners of the same year.Up to this point, intermittently the battery saver message would come across the dash however I had that looked at and was cleared out. With the car just shutting down without any warning on a busy street in the city, this could have ended a lot worse: I could have been hit or even killed. No warning lights appeared on dash aside from powertrain light after it was jumped but after that, there was nothing. Car was essentially dead and I could not get it to restart. When it was running I could not get the car to go over 10mph in a 35mph zone
Gasoline leak from gas tank. The fuel sender failed at 60,000 miles, had it replaced. Vin not under recall. Now fuel leak from replaced fuel sender. Again Vin not in recalled units. WTF?
THE CARS DASHBOARD LIGHTS KEPT LIGHTING UP AND NOT LONG AFTER I WAS ON THE FREEWAY AND THE CAR CAUGHT ONFIRE UNDER THE HOOD AND BURNT DOWN COMPLETE LOSS
My 2013 Ford Fusion SE had the high pressure fuel pump start leaking and dripped fuel on the exhaust and started the car on fire while driving down the road. This caused about $7,000.00 in damage but could have easily gotten out of control and caused injury or death to occupant(s). I reached out to Ford Motor Company and did a chat log asking for assistance and to make them aware. Ford Motor Company Case number CAS-34734107-H6J0Z5. What is dangerous about this design is that Ford chose to design and install a secondary high pressure fuel pump directly above the exhaust manifold and the engineers surely would have known the durability and longevity along with possible outcomes due to normal use over time. For the same reason you are not to refuel a hot engine, a fuel pump should not be placed directly over the exhaust manifold. I believe Ford Motor Company should be held accountable for their finished product liability. This is dangerous enough that they should remove these vehicles from service until a safe solution is available and deployed in my opinion.
When my fuel tank is filled the vehicle won't start and while driving the vehicle will stall out. The code on the check engine light comes back as P1450. This is telling me the canister purge valve needs replaced. After researching online I see this is a common problem for the 2013 Ford Fusion.
My car doesn't start after getting gas, it stalls while driving (which is very scary), feels like it's not getting enough gas at times and then will jump forward like it got too much gas at times. I took it to get it tested and was told it's the purge valve. This has been recalled in older models of the Fusion, as well as the Ford Focus. I have the same issue, but the 2013 isn't included in the recall. It needs to be covered under the recall because I'm sure my vehicle is not the only one. It's a huge issue, as it's not safe to drive.
2013 FORD FUSION TITANIUM: ENGINE SHAKES THEN SHUTS ITS SELF OFF WHEN STARTING THE CAR AND DRIVING (HUGE SAFETY ISSUE,) TAKES A MINUTE TO START THEN EITHER RUNS FINE OR SHUTS OFF AGAIN. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP LAST YEAR (2020) AND THEY REPLACE A FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON THEN WHEN OFF AFTER A COUPLE DAYS. THE CODE WAS THE SAME AS LAST TIME. I HAVE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT WITH FORD ON FRIDAY. I SPEND SO MUCH MONEY REPAIRING THIS CAR. I'D RATHER TRADE IT IN THAN FIX A NEW AND OLD PROBLEM EVERY 4 MONTHS.

A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED CAUSING THE OWNER (MYSELF) TO TAKE THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE AS THE CANISTER PURGE VALVE AND LOW PRESSURE FUEL SENSOR SIMULTANEOUSLY FAILING. THE ONLY WARNING SIGNS PREVIOUSLY WAS THE CAR STALLING AND TURNING OFF (DASH BOARD STAYED ILLUMINATED). THIS WOULD HAPPEN AFTER STARTING THE CAR AND EITHER PUTTING THE CAR INTO REVERSE OR DRIVING WITHIN THE FIRST FEW MINUTES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR THIS ISSUE AND AN ISSUE WAS NOT ABLE TO BE IDENTIFIED AT THE TIME. UPON OWNER INVESTIGATION AT A LATER DATE, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THESE ISSUED HAD BEEN REPORTED TO BE RELATED.

WHILE DRIVING I SMELLED A FAINT WHIFF OF GASOLINE, MOMENTS LATER THE CAR BEGAN FILLING UP WITH SMOKE THAT SPILLED IN THROUGH THE HEATER VENTS. THIS HAS HAD A AFFECT ON MY CAR WHILE DRIVING IT HAS STALLED AT HIGH SPEEDS ON THE HIGHWAY, AND HAS STALLED AT LOWER SPEEDS AS WELL AND MAKING A TURN . IT MAKES A LOUD VACUUM NOISE AND YOU CAN HEAR THE WHINING OR WHISTLING OF THE PUMP OR HOSE NEAR THE FUEL TANK UNDER THE DRIVER DOOR AND UNDER THE HOOD . I LOOKED UP SIMILAR INFO ON THE FORD RECALL SITE AND SEEN THIS RECALL # 18S32 . SO I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND THE INFORMED ME THAT IT DON'T COVER MY FORD VEHICLE , BUT THERE'S A RECALL FOR THIS , SO I'M NOT UNDERSTANDING WHY IT DON'T APPLY TO MY VEHICLE.

AFTER DRIVING MY VEHICLE AND I GOT OUT, I SMELLED GASOLINE. I LOOKED UNDER THE CAR AND ALL AROUND THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND COULD NOT SEE ANY LEAKS. I USED A FLASHLIGHT AND A MIRROR BUT DID NOT REMOVE ANY PANELS. I THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS JUST FUMES, BUT THE GASOLINE SMELL WAS JUST AS STRONG AFTER I DROVE THE CAR THE NEXT TIME. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE UNDER BODY FUEL LINES JUST FORWARD OF THE FUEL TANK WERE RUSTED THROUGH AND LEAKING. THERE IS A RETAINING CLIP THAT SECURES THE LINE AND THAT IS WHERE THE LINE WAS RUSTED. THERE WAS NEVER EVIDENCE OF A FUEL LEAK OTHER THAN THE SMELL, BECAUSE THE SPLASH GUARD THAT GOES UNDER THE FUEL LINE WAS PREVENTING THE LEAK FROM MAKING IT TO THE GROUND. I COULD NOT SMELL THE GASOLINE WHILE DRIVING, ONLY AFTER EXITING THE CAR.

THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM (13S04) SO I CALLED MY LOCAL FORD DEALER TO TRY TO GET IT FIXED UNDER THE RECALL. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I AM PRETTY SURE THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE THAT THE RECALL WAS CREATED TO FIX SO I THINK THAT FORD SHOULD RE-LOOK AT WHAT CARS THEY ARE WILLING TO REPAIR. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THEY EASILY COULD HAVE OVERLOOKED SOME CARS THAT HAD THAT PROBLEM.

INITIAL IGNITION OF THE CAR RESULTS IN ENGINE STALL OUT POST ABNORMAL IGNITION TIME. FUSION WILL DISPLAY "POWER RUN ACTIVE" THEN "PRESS BRAKE TO START". THIS WILL REPEAT AFTER ANOTHER IGNITION ATTEMPT AND RE-SHOW THE SAME MESSAGES ON THE DASHBOARD. AFTER A THIRD IGNITION ATTEMPT THE ENGINE DOES NOT STALL OUT. THE PROBLEM IS NOT A SUDDEN ONSET BUT INITIAL SYMPTOMS OF THE ISSUE IS THAT THE CAR WILL STALL OUT AFTER 10 SECONDS OF DRIVING. INITIAL RE-IGNITION POST STALL RESULTS IN NORMAL FUNCTION OF THE CAR WITHOUT EXTRA ISSUE. HOWEVER, THIS EVENT BECOMES INCREASINGLY COMMON OVER TIME UNTIL IT SIMPLY STALLS OUT IMMEDIATELY POST IGNITION. DESPITE MULTIPLE TRIPS TO A FORD CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL MECHANIC, NO CODES ARE GIVEN BY THE COMPUTER WHICH RENDERS DIAGNOSIS OF THE FAULTY PART OR CAUSE OF THE ISSUE NEAR IMPOSSIBLE. PROBLEM MAY PRESENT ITSELF AS FAULTY ALTERNATOR, BATTERY, OR STARTER. HOWEVER, EVEN AFTER REPLACEMENT OF ANY POSSIBLY FAULTY AFOREMENTIONED PARTS THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS.

I THEN HAD A RECALL ON IT AND TOOK IT FOR SERVICE FOR SOMETHING INVOLVING THE DOOR HANDLES AT THAT TIME I REPORTED MY PROBLEM TO A FORD MECHANIC/PERSONNEL AND THE GENTLE MEN ADVISED ME HE WILL NOT BE REPLACING THE PROBLEM SINCE IT WAS NOT ON THE RECALL AND IT WOULD HAVE TO BE PAYED FROM MY POCKET, WHICH I DONT HAVE THE BUDGET FOR IT, AND 3) WHILE I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ABOUT A 15 MILE DRIVE FROM NEIGHBORING CITY, MY VEHICLE HAD LOST POWER AND STARTED SLOWING DOWN AT WHICH POINT I REALIZED IT HAD TURNED OFF ON THE HIGHWAY AT SPEED OF 50-60MPHS WHILE MY SHIFT WAS IN DRIVE AND MY KEY WAS TURNED IN THE ON POSITION. THIS WAS AT NIGHT TIME SINCE I WORK THE AFTERNOON I THEN SLOWED DOWN TO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY AND TURNED IT BACK ON WITH OUT A PROBLEM, THE FOLLOWING DAY IT DID NOT DO THE SAME THING AND AS OF 12/19/2017, I HAVE SEEN REPORT OF THE FORD EXPLORER WITH SIMILARITIES OF THE SMELL BUT DID NOT FIND OF THE FORD FUSION WHICH I WOULD LIKE TO REPORT THIS ISSUE.

THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN A WRENCH LIGHT THAT SAID CHECK MANUAL. I WAS TRAVELING 65MPH AND HAD TO PULL OVER. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN AND IT STARTED UP. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST REPAIR SHOP. THE REPAIR SHOP PERFORMED A FUEL SYSTEM SERVICE AND CLEARED THE CHECK ENGINE AND CHECK MANUAL LIGHTS. FOUR DAYS LATER AS I WAS DRIVING TO WORK IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME I HAD TO PULL OVER 3 TIMES AND ONCE WHERE I HAD TO TURN OFF THE CAR AND TURN BACK ON IN THE ONE LANE ROAD AS THERE WAS NO PULL OFF AREA. AFTER THE LAST TIME I RESTARTED THE CAR, I HAD A REDUCED THROTTLE BUT MANAGED TO MAKE IT ABOUT 2 MILES TO WORK (AT THIS POINT THE SPEED IS REDUCED TO 45MPH). I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE SAME REPAIR SHOP. THE REPAIR SHOP HAD THEIR MASTER MECHANIC LOOK AT THE VEHICLE WHEN IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS HAS SOLVED THE PROBLEM. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT FORD ISSUED A CONSUMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 13N03. THIS WAS TO INCLUDE CERTAIN 2009 THROUGH 2013 MODEL YEAR FUSION, MILAN, ESCAPE AND MARINER VEHICLES. I CONTACTED FORD AND WAS TOLD BASED ON THE VIN NUMBER THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE CONSUMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 13N03. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS VEHICLE HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS THOSE WITH THE VINS IN THE CONSUMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM. THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT WITH NO PRIOR WARNING OTHER THAN THE SUDDEN LOSS OF ACCELERATION/THROTTLE.

THEY ALSO REPLACED THE FLP SENSOR. I WAS CHARGED $702.28. IT IS TRULY SADDENING HOW THE CAR HAD TO BE BROKEN DOWN IN ORDER FOR THEM TO FIX IT. BUT WHEN IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY THEY DIDN'T TOUCH IT. NOW THERE'S A RECALL ON THE COOLING SYSTEM, 16S09. EVERY DAY I SMELL SOME SORT OF FUEL UNDER MY HOOD, FUMING UP MY GARAGE AND COMING THROUGH MY VEHICLE AC VENTS WHEN IT'S ON. IT MAKES ME FEEL LIKE MY CAR IS GOING TO CATCH ON FIRE BECAUSE THE SMELL IS SO STRONG. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON TOO WITH CYLINDER ISSUES. COOLANT LEAKED INTO THE CYLINDER HEAD. I NOTICED MY FIRST ISSUE WHEN THE MOTOR WOULD STALL GOING AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED 15-20MPH THROUGH A PARKING LOT AT ABOUT 22,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER AND ALSO WOULD HESITATE TO START. I ONLY ASSUMED IT WAS BAD FUEL BEING SUCH A NEW VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENED PERIODICALY UP UNTILE THE ENGINE GAVE AN OVER TEMPRATURE COOLANT DISPLAY KILLING ALL BUT IDLE POWER TO THE INGINE MAKING THE CAR UNDRIVABLE. THUS I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AT EXCACTLY JANUARY 3, 2016 WITH 64,056 ON THE ODOMETER. I HAD THEN NOTICED RECALLS FOR THIS PARTICULAR MOTOR IN FORDS FUSIONS AND ESCAPES WITH THIS PARTICULAR SIZE ENGINE. AFTER THE RECALLS REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED FOR MY VEHICLE I STILL EXPERIENCED ENGINE STALLS, BUT LESS FREQUENT THROUGHOUT THIS PERIOD AND ROUGH IDLE AT INITIAL START OF THE ENGINE MORE FREQUENTLY AS TIME PASSED. THE OVER TEMPRATURE COOLANT MESSAGE CAME ON AGAIN, AT 87,000 GIVE OR TAKE ( AGAIN TOWED TO DEALERSHIP SO THEY WILL HAVE REPORTED MILAGE). I WAS INFORMED THAT NUMEROUS REPAIRS HAD TO BE MADE AND ARE NOT COVERED UNDER ANY RECALLS ALTHOUGH I FEEL THIS VEHICLE MORE THAN MEETS THE CRITERIA FOR NUMEROUS RECALLS. I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE CHECKED FOR COOLANT LEAKS FROM ANOTHER CERTIFIED SHOP AND NO HOSES HAVE BEEN FOUND TO HAVE ANY LEAKS.

I'M ONLY ABLE TO DRIVE ABOUT 315 ON A "FULL" TANK. THAT IS NOT RIGHT FOR A CAR THAT'S SUPPOSED TO BE A 27-37MPG CAR. WHICH I ONLY GET ABOUT 24-26MPG SINCE I'VE OWNED THE CAR. I DO A MIX OF HIGHWAY AND CITY DRIVING, MOSTLY HIGHWAY AVERAGING 45MPH DRIVING. I'VE TOLD BRIEN FORD IN EVERETT OF THIS ISSUE BUT THEY WONT LOOK AT IT SINCE IT HASN'T BEEN RECOGNIZED BY FORD. THE DEALER TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THEM RESEARCH IT WHEN IS A HORRIBLE THING TO DO, WHEN I KNOW THERE'S AN ISSUE. WHEN I'M ONLY ABLE TO GET ABOUT 12 GALLONS IN THE TANK. THE FUSION HYBRID SE HAS A 13.5 GALLON TANK, I THINK THE TANKS GOT INSTALLED INCORRECTLY, AND ME ALONG WITH MANY OTHERS GOT THE HYBRID TANK INSTEAD OF THE NORMAL 16.5 GALLON TANK. *TR
