repeat failures of recall 16S42 Ford is forcing me to handle a recall that failed after repair was done before purchasing of vehicle
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while wearing the driver's side seat belt, the seat belt failed to retract and was locked. The contact stated that the failure mostly occurred after the vehicle had been parked outside in extreme heat, but the seat belt operated as needed in the morning after the vehicle had been parked in the garage overnight. The contact was unable to secure herself inside the vehicle using the seat belt. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V875000 (Seat belts); however, the VIN was not included. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.

The seat belts are fraying at the stitching and the female end sometimes doesn’t want to let you put seat belts in or after there in they pop out for no reason
Seatbelt failed during collision did not lock fully extended and did not retract brakes did not engage right away
Airbag sensor is on. Took to mechanic and the wire that runs thru latch has broken apart. Need to replace latch as well as wiring
One of the rear seat belts will lock and not release. After you unlatch it, it doesn’t retract properly. I feel this is unsafe and should be fixed by the manufacturer.
I purchased the vehicle used from a local Mercedes dealership (April 2018) with multiple open recalls. One of the recalls was 16S42. On May 2, 2018, the vehicle was brought to a local Ford dealer where they "corrected" the open recalls. In February 2020, my wife was involved in a motor vehicle accident on the interstate. There was a construction zone that brought traffic to a stop and she was rear-ended by an SUV at speeds between 45-60 MPH totaling the vehicle while it was at a stop. She was the only occupant and was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the cash. The airbags did not deploy and the driver seatbelt did not lock causing her head to strike the steering wheel. She didn't remember if she lost consciousness or not, however, she was later diagnosed with a concussion. The vehicle has since been totaled and was taken into possession by the insurance company. I am unaware of any inspection of the seatbelt that was performed after the crash. I do possess photographs of the vehicle. There were no warning lights active prior to the crash.
The right front passenger seat belt locks when vehicle is not running or in parked preventing use. Cannot secure passenger before driving. Often happens in warmer weather.

ON APRIL 11 2021 WHILE ON FREEWAY IN TRAFFIC THE CAR WOULD TURN OFF GO BACK ON AND SHIFT INTO GEAR ON ITS OWN I WAS ALMOST HIT FROM BEHIND AS I ALMOST HIT SOMEONE IN FRONT OF ME BECAUSE THE CAR SHUT OFF I THREW IN NEUTRAL PRESS THE GAS AND CAR STARTED UP AND JERKED WHILE CAR PICKED UP SPEED THEN SLOWED ON ITS OWN I NOW PUT IN REVERSE IT GOES FORWARD SEAT BELT STILL DONT WORK I WORK AN HOUR AWAY FROM HOME AND SCARED TO GET IN CAR. 2014 FORD FUSION.

I HAVE LOST ABILITY TO ACCELERATE WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO ABOVE 40 MPH ON I-20, A 70MPH ROAD SYSTEM, CAR JOLTS OR JUMPS EVEN WITHOUT FOOT ON ACCELERATOR SO THAT I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THE CAR'S ACCELERATION. GAS GAUGE JUMPS WILDLY AND RANDOMLY FROM 22 MPG TO 99 MPG. BRAKE LIGHTS AND OTHER LIGHTING SYSTEMS REMAIN ON WHEN CAR IS COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN AND HEADLIGHTS AND INTERIOR LIGHTS ARE TURNED TO OFF POSITION. IT HAS BEEN 2 YEARS NOW. I FEEL UNSAFE TRAVELING IN THE CAR AND HAVING PASSENGERS RIDE IN MY CAR. THE REAR, MIDDLE SEAT BELT LOCKED WHILE THE SEAT WAS DOWN, TENSIONING THE BELT BEYOND THE POINT WHERE THE SEAT CAN BE USED. THE BELT CANNOT BE LOOSENED ENOUGH TO ALLOW THE SEAT BACK TO BE LIFTED INTO THE UPRIGHT POSITION AND OBVIOUSLY CANNOT BE USED TO RESTRAIN A PASSENGER. TENSION HAD TO BE RELEASED FROM THE BOTTOM SECURING BRACKET IN ORDER TO LIFT THE SEAT BACK SO THAT A PASSENGER CAN SIT IN THE WINDOW SEAT. AT THAT POINT THE SEAT BELT WAS LOCKED WITH THE SEAT UP AND THE MIDDLE SEAT BELT CANNOT BE RELEASED TO BE USED.

MIND YOU THESE ARE SEAT BELTS THAT DO NOT GET LATCHED AND UNLATCHED SEVERAL TIMES A DAY LIKE THE DRIVER SEAT, BUT THESE SEAT BELTS STAY LATCHED WITH A CAR SEAT SO THEY SHOULD NOT BE GETTING WORE OUT SO QUICK. ALSO THESE BELTS BROKE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, NO PRESSURE ON THEM. THIS IS EXTREMELY SCARY FOR ME ESPECIALLY SINCE MY TWO CHILDREN RIDE IN THESE SEATS DAILY AND THE SEAT BELTS BROKEN WITH OUT ANY PRESSURE. WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN IF I GET REAR ENDED BY SOMEONE GOING 50 MPH???? I CONTACTED FORD AND THEY ONLY WANTED TO DO 2 THINGS: CONTINUE TO REPLACE THE SEAT BELTS AS THE BREAK...REALLY, NEXT TIME IT COULD BE BROKE FROM A WRECK!! THE OTHER OPTION WAS TO TRADE MY CAR IN. FIRST OFF THEY DID NOT OFFERED ME NOWHERE NEAR WHAT I WOULD NEED, SECONDLY AND MOST IMPORTANT IF I TRADED IT IN I CAN ALMOST GUARANTEE THAT THEY WOULD TURN AROUND AND SELL IT TO SOMEONE ELSE. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL VEHICLES FROM FORD HECK MY HUSBAND USED TO WORK THERE, BUT I WAS EXTREMELY SURPRISED AND DISAPPOINTED IN THE LACK OF CARE OR WORRY FOR MY FAMILIES SAFETY IN THIS MATTER.

THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT WILL RETRACT AND LOCK FOR NO REASON UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. ATTEMPTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM WHILE DRIVING CONSISTS OF REMOVING THE SEAT BELT LETTING IT RETRACT ALL THE WAY UP THEN TRY TO BUCKLE IT BACK IN PLACE. THE LAST TIME ABOUT A WEEK AGO THE REMEDY DID NOT WORK, AND THE SEAT BELT REMAINED LOCK IN THE RETRACTED POSITION AND WOULD NOT RELEASE. THIS FORCED MY WIFE TO DRIVE HOME WITHOUT A SEAT BELT.

I JUST LEASED A 2014 FORD FUSION TITANIUM AND AFTER DRIVING A FEW DAYS, I REALIZED THAT THE SEAT BELT IS ALWAYS RUNNING ON MY NECK (DRIVER'S NECK) - NO MATTER WHAT ADJUSTMENT IS SET FOR THE DRIVER'S SEAT AND / OR FOR THE SEAT BELT FIXTURE, THE BELT IS ALWAYS RUNNING OVER MY NECK AND I DON'T FEEL SAFE WITH THIS DRIVING CONDITION. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER (TOM HOLZER FORD IN NOVI - MI) AND THE PROBLEM WAS ACKNOWLEDGE BY THE SERVICE MANAGER - "THIS IS THE WAY THE VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED AND THERE IS NOTHING THAT WE CAN DO ABOUT IT" HE SAID. I ALSO CONTACTED THE FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE (COMPLAINT # [XXX]), BECAUSE I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING A VEHICLE WITH THE SEAT BELT ON MY NECK, AND FORD ALSO TOLD ME THAT CANNOT DO ANYTHING. BOTTOM-LINE: IT SEEMS THAT THE FORD FUSION 2014 HAS A SERIOUS DESIGN PROBLEM IN REGARDS TO THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT POSITIONING, THAT IS CREATING AN UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITION, AND FORD IS NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
