I have lost power steering in the vehicle. The dash is popping up Service Advance Trac and Hill assist unavailable. I was looking into sensors and rack and pinion when I seen a recall, 19S26, which was listed for 2013-2016 ford fusions and Lincolns, but the recall isn’t specific to my VIN. As of now, the dealership of course won’t fix what is an expensive repair, although it does appear that my car should be included. The information cited salt corrosion in winter as a contributor. It is now late December in Northeast Ohio.
I changed my battery at 105,000 miles with everything working fine electronically for my 2015 Fusion. Been a great car up to this issue. After installing the correct battery, the power steering turned off and hasn't come back on. Took to dealership, they replaced a connection cable at their suggestion and still were unable to reset the power steering. That's where it should have ended tho. They want me to further come back to run more tests??? Something seems very defective to me and from social media reports of other Fusion owners and the nhtsa investigations, a power steering recall should be warranted. I have been a car owner for 40 years and never experienced this inconvenience. I think Ford is getting away with inferior electronics and passing the expense back to the consumer. It should be an easy fix but not one at $4000 (getting a new steering rack) just to change a battery?? :-( Please help!
The vehicle exhibited sudden loss of steering. Broken bolts on steering rack were discovered and vehicle was taken to dealer. Dealer bluespringsford.com refuses to fix vehicle under recall.

While driving “steering fault. Service now” light illuminated. Next steering wheel locked up and displayed “steering loss stop safely” and “advance service trac”. Car could not be steering and had to be towed, now shop says rack and pinion needs replaced
Power steering rack is completely destroyed and not safe to drive. I see recalls for other fusions for power steering , but not the 2015 fusion. I think this needs to be investigated.
Got an "Steering Assist Fault" indication on my dash and I can no longer turn my steering wheel. This is a well documented recall with older models but mine was not included in the recall. I've taken it to the local dealer and been told it will require replacement of the entire assembly. Older online reports said this was a $2,200 repair. I was just quoted $2,900 by the dealer. This is outrageous. Ford should not be allowed to get away with this. They positioned the electric steering motor (with enclosed electronics) next to the exhaust manifold. The electronics can't handle the heat being so close even with the stupid heat shield between the two. The recall should be extended to all Ford vehicles that use this technology.

The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V632000 (Steering). The contact stated the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed as a failure with steering gear motor which needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
I took my vehicle into dealer because the steering was not smooth. It appeared to be hanging up and at times difficult to maintain control of the vehicle. The problem was diagnosed by the dealer as being “internal” to the steering rack. The vehicle only has 26,000 miles on it. A search of recalls was completed on the vehicle and two recalls were completed for “corrosion” to the steering box. One recall in 2015 and one in 2018. These recalls were performed on vehicles operating in states such as my own (Northeast Ohio) where road salt could cause the corrosion. I suspect that the corrosion entered my steering rack and is affecting the steering of the vehicle. Since two recalls were done involving the steering mechanism, maybe the whole mechanism should be replaced, as how can we be certain that the corrosion was limited to just the outside of the mechanism.

The vehicle was towed to a dealership, which replaced "faulty steering rack and rusted clamp" in addition to corresponding bolts. The car's mileage was 49,466. This appears to be the same problem as NHTSA complaints #11569485, #11569595, and others. Similarly, this failure seems related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V632000 (Steering), which applies to other 2015 Ford Fusions, but not this specific VIN for unclear reasons. Ford was notified of the failure but said the only recourse was to file a complaint with the NHTSA.

The steering wheel locked while driving the vehicle and warning lights immediately came on advising "Hillstart Assist Not Available" and "Service AdvanceTrac" leaving the vehicle undrivable and in a dangerous position. The steering wheel then began making mechanical whirring sounds and jerking left and right on its own. There were no warning lights or signs prior to this issue happening while driving, the issue was confirmed by the two truck driver who rescued the vehicle as well as the mechanic who tried to fix the car. Mechanic advises this car has a recall for this issue for vehicle's year, make and model, and state, but Ford says it does not apply to the vehicle. Mechanic disagrees and believes this to be a gross safety issue.

My 2015 Ford Fusion, which has under 76,000 miles, started making a noise and took more effort than usual to take a turn- and once turned (both sides), took a lot of effort to get back into neutral position. I brought the car to Jack Madden Ford in Norwood, MA, where they ran diagnostics on it- the steering column needs to be replaced. My concern is that there was a recall placed on some 2015 Ford Fusions (Ford recall #15S14) which dealt with steering gear attachment bolts. This was not a recall under my VIN, but I'm suspecting that it should have been- especially since this car has low mileage for a 2015 vehicle and is only driven locally. That recall specifically mentioned in states with inclement weather where salt is used on the roads which could wear down the bolts (MA is one of these states). I have brought my car to the Ford dealership for every oil change/recall/repair needed- I can't think of any reason this should have happened, other than a defect in the vehicle.

It started taking more effort to take turns, and my steering wheel did not make a smooth transition back after taking a turn. I brought my car to the Ford dealership, and they ran diagnostics- my car needs the steering column replaced.
Driving on free way and steering wheel stock and can't turn nether way
The steering mount bolts (as related to recall 19S26) have corroded & broken off. This has been confirmed by the local Ford dealership. This has caused a very loud noise when turning the steering wheel, as well as the steering slipping/becoming stiffer. This can lead to no control over steering at all in the vehicle. I brought the vehicle into the local ford dealership immediately, & there was some confusion over what recalls were covered. I got it back & the issue had not been fixed, & that is when we realized the recall does not cover the state where I live. Ford has stated this recall does not cover the state I am in (SD) but does cover the vehicle in the neighboring state of MN (of which I live 20 miles from the border). My dealership has tried to speak with ford to petition them to cover this recall, & they are refusing. In addition to that, this vehicle has been in MN every other month or so, has had most service done to the vehicle in MN as well.
I was driving on the freeway yesterday, about 70mph driving conditions were good, it was sunny and warm, and traffic was flowing regularly, and I felt as thought something gave way or loosened up because the car and steering ability were not in synch. I was then approaching a congested area and needed to slow down but the brakes did not brake as fast as they should of and I almost smashed right into the car in front of me. There felt like a disconnection between the brakes, the steering, and the entire car. I have keep my care well maintained and do not miss my regular maintenance appointments. I just had it smogged, with a change of oil and 80k inspection. The tires were checked and everything was ok. There were no indicator lights or alerts however, I do have a light that will not shut off and i was told subject to a recall. It's the front fog lights? or running lights? its the front lights not head lights but the ones the side. That light doesn't impact my driving ability. This is a very unsafe and frightening experience and I would like it investigated before someone really gets hurt.
The Power Steering Assist Fault went out on the car and this is a common problem with ford fusion. The worse’s connected to the transmission became loose. This has cost me money from the dealership.

The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the mechanic related the failure to the recall; however, the dealer confirmed that parts were not yet available for the recall repair. Drove the car last on 1/18/2023, no issues with steering whatsoever; never saw a warning light on dash. Then on 1/19/2023, I had to go to work and attempted to make the trip. Upon turning the key the car started but the dash illuminated two warnings. [STEERING-ASSIST FAULT-SERVICE REQUIRED] [SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC] I had not experienced any issues prior to this. Now the cars steering is very difficult to steer. Apparently, some drivers have experienced this while driving, this could be very dangerous and investigated as this could be lethal in certain circumstances. There was a recall for bolts, to my best of knowledge this was fully completed by a local registered Ford dealership. This causes me worry and I think Ford should look into this or at the least perform a complimentary assessment of what is going on and offer some solutions to such an issue that apparently is not uncommon.

Brake line delaminated - had to replace after brakes went out completely. Paid out of pocket for repair after tow. Power assist steering stopped working abruptly. Had bolts replaced for earlier recall related to salt in states with winter conditions which could cause this exact issue of the power steering to fail. Hill assist is also not working.
Even after earlier repair for recall for potential steering failure, exact same problem occured while driving. Significant loss of control. Rack and pinion steering required to be replaced.
The electric steering motor mounting bolts to the steering rack corroded and snapped off causing the vehicle to loose steering. This is a huge safety concern! If this would happen at freeway speeds it would cause a serious accident or even loss of life. Ford Motor Company had a recall for this concern for the same model year we own but Ford Customer Service told me that by the vin number our Ford Fusion was not included in the recall. What had happened is the exact same concern for the recall. At the present time this vehicle we own can not be driven ! I believe Ford’s recall number is 19S26. There is lots of information on the internet about this concern. I can’t understand why Ford Fusions from 2013 thru 2016 are involved in this recall but not all of them since all the steering racks on the Ford Fusions are of the same design. It’s a very costly repair if the owner can not get assistance from Ford. Please look into this matter. Thank you
Steering Rack was faulty in the car, causing there to be no powersteering which makes the vehicles extremely hard to maneuver while in motion. hill assist and traction control warnings popped up and vehicle makes electronic like noises as you turned the wheel. Vehicles has been taken to an independent service center and issue has been confirmed. Looking at various forums, message boards, and speaking with my mechanic this is not an uncommon issue with Ford vehicles.

My car has approximately 97,000 miles on it. For the last 6 months, I've been getting alerts on my dashboard ("Service Advance Trak", "Hill Start Not Available", and one or two others). This happens at slow speeds and fast also when turning. When these alerts start, I lose power steering. I've also noticed that when I apply brakes at slow speeds, the ABS engages for a few seconds. I was told by the dealer that I needed a new battery but that was not the issue. I was driving with my kids in the car and it happen mid driving on the highway. I almost got into a serious accident but was able to gain control in enough time to steer out the way. This is a very dangerous issue and I see that it has been recalled but only on vehicles up North due to possible salt and water erosion with the snow. Now the dealership is suggesting to replace it costing 1800. This is absolutely ridiculous.

THE RECALL NUMBER IS 18S20 AND THE NOTICE INSTRUCTS ME TO GO TO THE LOCAL DEALER TO HAVE THIS REPLACED. I CONTACTED TWO LOCAL FORD DEALERS AS INSTRUCTED AND THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PART. THEY STATED THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT ME WHEN ITS AVAILABLE AND THE HAVE NO ETA ON PART AVAILABILITY, HOWEVER MY VEHICLE IS NOT DRIVABLE WHILE I AM WAITING. I AM A SINGLE PARENT WITH SCHOOL AGED CHILDREN AND I HAVE TO WORK AND CANNOT AFFORD A RENTAL AND THERE ARE NO LOANER CARS BEING OFFERED. I TRIED TO THEN DRIVE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR WHEN THE PROBLEM REPEATED ITSELF. I GOT SAFELY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND ARRANGED FOR A TOW. THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS BEING A FAILED STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY AND THE POWER STEERING RACK WAS REPLACED, COSTING $1,871.42. A BRIEF INTERNET SEARCH INDICATES THERE HAVE BEEN AT LEAST THREE RECALLS OF FUSIONS (AND OTHER FORD / LINCOLN MODELS) FOR POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE (6/11/2013; 5/2/2015; 6/27/2015). THIS IS APPARENTLY A COMMON PROBLEM WITH FUSIONS AND REPORTS OF SYMPTOMS IDENTICAL TO THOSE DESCRIBED HEREIN ARE NUMEROUS. THE ACTUAL FAILURE THAT CAUSED THIS EVENT IS UNKNOWN: CODES WERE PULLED THAT INDICATED THE ELECTRIC STEERING RACK ASSEMBLY NEEDED REPLACEMENT BUT THIS DOES NOT PINPOINT WHAT PART OF THE ASSEMBLY WAS AT FAULT. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND ON SEVERAL TIMES I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR. THIS HAS OCCURRED ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS IN A ONE MONTH PERIOD. ONCE AT THE DEALERSHIP I WAS TOLD THAT THE ISSUE WAS THE STEERING GEAR BOX, A $1,700 FIX FOR A CAR THAT IS LESS THAN TWO YEARS OLD, BUT OUT OF THE 36,000 BASIC WARRANTY. THE CAR IS BEING REPAIRED AT A LOCAL FORD DEALER, I WILL PROVIDE THE REPAIR INVOICE ONCE THE WORK IS COMPLETE.

TWO DAYS LATER I WAS CONTACTED BY THE DEALERSHIP AND INFORMED THE STEERING GEAR HAD FAILED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. BECAUSE OF THE SERIOUS NATURE OF THIS DEFECT AND THE FACT THAT I HAD JUST PURCHASED THE CAR NEW ON 6/15/15, I REQUESTED A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE BUT WAS TOLD FORD WOULD NOT DO THAT. I CONTACTED FORD CORP. AND MY CASE WAS TURNED OVER TO THE REGIONAL MGR. OF THIS AREA AND HE ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THE CAR WOULD NOT BE BOUGHT BACK BUT WOULD BE REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. AS COMPENSATION MY NEW CAR WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED TO 5 YEARS. I SHUDDER TO THINK WHAT MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED TO MY WIFE AND MYSELF HAD THIS STEERING FAILURE HAD HAPPENED AT THE HIGHWAY SPEEDS WE HAD JUST BEEN TRAVELING AND AM NOW NERVOUS ABOUT THE OVERALL QUALITY OF THIS VEHICLE.
