Lost power in the steering wheel. My safety and others is at risk because the steering wheel locks up completely at slow speeds and it's difficult to turn the steering wheel when turning a corner or trying to back up. The problem has been confirmed by an independent service center. The component has only been inspected by an independent service center. On 12/5/25 I received a warning on the dashboard, Steering Assist Fault. I drove to work and parked the car. When I got in the car around noon and proceeded to drive the steering wheel was really difficult to turn and I started seeing other notifications that flashed on the screen. As I drove the steering wheel because more difficult to turn. At low speed the steering wheel locked up and I managed to pull the car over to get out of traffic.

The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V167000 (STEERING). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was unknown.
Electric Power Steering Motor Attaching Bolts Corrode (NHTSA 19V-632, OEM 19S26): Corrosion of bolts in the electric power steering system can lead to loss of power steering assist in 2016 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles in certain states. Dealers will replace bolts and apply a sealant, or install a new steering gear.
purchased a used vehicle. At the time of purchase, there were no visible issues with the car. However, approximately 20 days later, a significant jerking and knocking problem related to the transmission appeared. Due to this issue, I stopped using the vehicle for a while. After consulting with a mechanic, I was informed that the transmission needs to be replaced. As of now, the car is struggling significantly to move. When I turn the ignition, the engine starts, but the vehicle does not move. If I turn the ignition off and restart it, it may move slightly after shaking the vehicle, but then it quickly stops and displays an error again. In this condition, the vehicle is not drivable. Unfortunately, the person I bought the car from refused to accept any responsibility or take the car back, despite my clear communication about the issue. Additionally, the following issues have also started to occur: The steering wheel becomes stiff suddenly. This resolves temporarily after turning the ignition off and on again. The brake pedal sometimes vibrates as if it’s losing pressure. I can clearly feel this under my foot while braking. Sensor malfunctions have also started to appear. The current condition of the vehicle poses serious safety and functionality concerns. Unfortunately, I am not financially able to cover any additional repair costs. Therefore, I would like to know if there is anything legally or technically that can be done regarding this matter. Otherwise, I will be forced to sell this vehicle as scrap. Thank you in advance for your support and assistance. Sincerely,
I purchased a 2016 Ford Fusion S new from the dealership in 2016. Earlier this year, multiple indicator lights turned on including "Service AdvanceTrac", ABS light, steering and hill assist lights. As time progressed, the Power Steering has become more of an issue to a point now that it is difficult to make tight turns going at low speed. I never received a recall notice, but when I did a search of the 2016 Ford Fusion S vehicle, there is an outstanding recall on similar models in 19V632000. The list of states include the state of Missouri which is where the vehicle was purchased from. At the time the recall notice was sent out (August 28, 2019), the vehicle would have been registered in Kansas. A search by the VIN number does not show a recall notice for it. Presently, the vehicle is registered in Iowa. I hope to get review of my VIN number to see if this recall should have included my vehicle as there are similar models distributed in similar states, with exact issues pertaining to my vehicle which was not included in the initial recall. I have service scheduled for this vehicle at an authorized Ford dealership on July 17th, 2025 which was the earliest I could get the car in. I'm concerned as this is a substantial issue that puts the vehicle at risk for a serious malfunction should the power steering fail completely while being operated. This is a relatively low mileage vehicle for the year which likely why the issue hasn't arose until this point. I appreciate your time and consideration on this matter.

My car is a 2016 Ford fusion and it was working fine until February of 2025. There was a message that appeared on the dashboard as soon as I started the car. The message was “steering loss, stop safely” making it extremely difficult to turn. The steering can’t even turn left or right. It’s locked in place. I had to get it towed and now it’s undrivable. I can’t even get it fixed because my specific VIN # is not listed for a recall and I’m unsure what to do. I need help what can I do?

The ABS module is faulty and light will come on at random times and makes steering hard and braking on right side of vehicle is hard. I have taken it to Raceway Ford of Hartsville and they are having a hard time getting the part due to it being called obsolete but I think it needs to be on the recall list as well due to it being a safety concern on my vehicle.
I have never had this issue before with this car. I started the car up to go to the store and saw all these lights on my dash. I keep my car maintained well. Tires, oil, tune up etc… and when I saw the lights on the dash it said service advance trac and steering loss stop safely with 2 other icons above it. So I didn’t know what that was so I sent to get power fluid not knowing it wasn’t a reservoir. I know Ford had/has a recall on 2016 ford fusions model for THIS EXACT ISSUE! My steering cannot turn at all I need my car, PLEASE I am on disability and it’s not right that the recall won’t cover all ford of this model with this issue. I beg, I need my car fixed.
I have had road salt contamination with the electrical wiring to the power steering causing the wires to become brittle and break causing a power steering failure in a right curve which caused the steering wheel to jerk the car to the left nearly causing a collision. The power steering failed again due to high friction inside steering gear and has a broken bolt on the EPAS motor to the steering gear.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel seized, and the power steering warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The vehicle was able to be restarted. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for further assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.

The power steering failed suddenly while driving. The vehicle became nearly impossible to steer and control. Our safety and the safety of others vehicles or pedestrians was put at risk because the car could not be steered or controlled properly. The failure could have easily caused a serious and perhaps life threatening accident. Luckily, due to circumstances, we were able to pull over safely without causing an accident. It suddenly became extremely difficult to steer the car to a safe stop. No warning lamps were illuminated until the problem was actually happening. The warning lamps read "power steering assist fault; pull over safely immediately". The car was towed to a auto mechanic. The mechanic was able to "reset" the power steering but could not diagnose the problem. We then took the car to a Ford Dealer for further inspection. The Ford Dealer diagnosed the car and said it needs a new Power Steering Rack. We were told the original part is "failing" from the inside. The repair at the Ford Dealer is priced at $3170. The car is 9 years old and the mileage is approximately 80,000. For about two days before this incident we noticed that the steering occasionally felt slightly "jerky" while making turns but there was no warning lamps until the power steering completely failed.
This incident is replicable. When driving in lower speed (parking) and moments after switching into a gear (drive or reverse) the power steering goes out. The dash flashes with 2 errors “service AndvanceTrac” and “Hill Assist” following dash lights illuminate: Airbags, ABS, & Traction control. Once the vehicle is turned off and then back on, the indicator lights go away and power steering works again. This vehicle was made at Flat Rock by FMC on 8/26/15 and was purchased & registered in the state of New York from 2015-2021 but Recall # 19S26 only refers to Vehicles made at Flat Rock between 8/21/13 - 6/14/15 (This vehicle was made 83 days later)
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving at a slow speed, the steering wheel started to wobble with the "Power Steering Assist Fault Service Now" message displayed. The contact pulled into a parking lot and the “Loss of Power Steering - Pull Over to the Side of the Road for Safety" and "No ABS" messages were displayed. The contact attempted to read the safety manual but found no information about the failure. The contact called her husband who had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic. The independent mechanic later called the contact and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be serviced because no fault codes were found. The vehicle was later towed to a dealer and the contact was provided an estimate for the repair. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V167000 (Steering); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact called the manufacturer and was provided a case number and the contact was then transferred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 180,000.
Mileage: 180,000
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving approximately 15 MPH, the message steering loss was displayed on the instrument panel and the steering wheel seized. The contact stated that the failure was temporary. The vehicle then regained power steering functionality and the contact continued driving. The contact stated that the following morning while starting the vehicle, the failure recurred. The vehicle then became inoperable. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The contact became aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V632000 (Steering). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Electric rack and pinion steering failed while driving. It will not be available because the core need to be exchanged for the new part. I could not steer the car. I had no power to the steering. Luckily I could get it into my driveway before it completely locked up. Yes the garage I had it towed to had to push the car into the garage because it was not drivable. No one but the mechanic has inspected the part. I received a warning stating my power assist steering needed attention, and please drive slowly to a stop. I do not have any repair invoice because my vehicle is still being repaired The reason I am filing this complaint is that Ford has had problems with this steering component and was recalled in other Fusions but when contacting them, they said that mine was not covered under the recall for what appears the exact same reason.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The message "Loss of Power Steering - Pull Over to the Side of the Road for Safety" was displayed. The contact stated that the steering wheel had seized, which prevented the contact from pulling to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the residence of a family member. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the power steering pump and the power steering harness had failed due to internal friction. The vehicle was then towed to an unknown dealer, where it was diagnosed that the power steering rack had failed due to internal friction and needed to be replaced. Additionally, the dealer informed the contact that after the steering rack replacement, that a four wheel alignment needed to be performed, and the TCM and the ECM needed to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was not repaired and was in the process of being shipped to the contact's State of residence. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. My 2016 Ford Fusion's power steering went out while driving, making it extremely difficult to turn effectively, especially at lower speeds. After the loss of power steering, the dashboard started showing warnings about "Hill Assist", "Powertrac" being unavailable and "Power steering loss - stop safely". The steering also feels "clunky" where the steering wheel jumps when turning. There are also clicks heard from near the engine compartment when turning. Now, the warnings on the dashboard display when first starting the car. I brought it to a Ford dealership who diagnosed the issue and determined that the steering gear needed to be replaced. They quoted $6000 to replace the entire power steering assembly. This issue seems to be part of Ford recall 19V632, however my VIN is not covered. I live in Minnesota and my car is in contact with road salt and other contaminants (especially in the winter) very often. There were no problems with steering prior to this issue.
Loss of power steering and multiple codes light up on dash about an hour prior to loss. Experienced a slow escalation of having difficultly steering of approx 1-2 days where steering did not seem as responsive. Was able to return home, but upon restart i had no power steering steering and multiple diagnostics failure lights coming on [Steering Loss Stop Safety, Service Advance Trac, Hill Start assist not available]. This currently is in a state of not being able to drive. Losing power steering assist puts safety at jeopardy at any speed to not allow for any fine movement or directional control. If this happened at any rate of speed this is a concern. It being the weekend I will need to discuss with my local mechanic as well as local dealership on course of action. I have tried to restart several times with the warnings and still lack of steering
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving approximately 15 MPH and attempting to make a right turn, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The contact used excessive force to pull to the side of the road and allowed another individual more capable of maneuvering the vehicle without power steering functionality. The vehicle was diagnosed, and the Traction Control and Hill Assist Failure warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 101,000.

Steering Wheel power steering no longer works. Can't turn the steering wheel. Became extremely difficult to turn before permanently parking. The 2016 Ford Fusion is currently at the dealership and they confirmed the issue. It's been inspected by a Ford Dealership Service Center. Yes, a light came on in the vehicle, but I do not remember which one. Nothing we did caused it to stop working. One day it just started jerking and catching while turning. Then it stopped working suddenly.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while pulling out of the driveway, he observed a popping noise emanating from the engine compartment and the power steering assist failure warning light illuminated. Additionally, the steering wheel became stiff and did not operate as intended. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

The steering wheel became wobbly and loose. Took it to the Whaling City Ford in New London CT. and they said that although this type of issue was the subject of a recall, this particular car/VIN was not part of that recall, and they would charge $60 just to diagnose the issue. Called Ford later in the day and they said the car had been repaired under the recall in 2018 and now it was not in warranty. Obviously the fix performed under the recall was not done properly, or it was otherwise ineffective. They refuse to fix it at their expense. I had it repaired elsewhere. at my own expense.
This problem randomly occurred. My steering wheel stopped working & it took a severe amount of force to control the steering wheel. No prior problems with the vehicle
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the steering wheel was very loose. Car initially showed a warning alert for failed traction control. Attempted to reset using steering wheel reset, failed. Tried backing car up and steering became extremely hard to do, requiring maximum effort to turn wheel. Steering power assist light lit up on dashboard. Parked car. Made appointment with Heritage Ford, South Burlington, VT. Upon subsequent investigation discovered that 2016 Fusion had been recalled #19V632000 but only when sold in Northern States where salt was being used or currently registered in (Vermont was included). I moved to Vermont to be with family in 2020. Failure occurred about [XXX]. 1). Had this failure occurred, while driving we could have had a fatal accident. 2). Shouldn’t there be provisions for folks who move into northern states originally identified or is Ford dictating these non recalled cars remain in non salt applying states for their life? Shouldn’t all cars have been recalled to prevent catastrophic failures? 3). Failing the recall shouldn’t the cars be supplied with warning placards saying that exposure to excessive road salt could result in catastrophic steering failure? 4). I recently asked the service rep (Amanda) at Heritage if there were any other recalls for this car and she said no. Does that mean this vehicle is exempt from the recall because it got to the state after some arbitrary deadline? Does allowing cars to travel the roads of any Northern state with this defect make sense? INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
When I was backing out of my apartment complex and tried to turn left the car just stopped and when you turn the wheel it says service advance trac and hill Start car hasn’t been drove since last Friday
Steering fault indicator on dashboard and then steering loss displayed and now can not steer car
First of all steering wheel came loose from steering column luckily I was pulling into a parking spot due to steering wheel feeling very loose and the electric steering went out also this could have resulted in terrible accident as I was driving back from working offshore approximately 45 miles away. The dealership replaced the steering wheel due to a bolt which was a recall item after 3 weeks of sitting at the dealership but they told me the electric steering issue was not a recall item on my vehicle. They also said they fixed something with break system and something with transmission shift linkage which they did say were recall items. While the vehicle was getting steering wheel changed out they did something to the steering system which allowed the vehicle steering system to operate normal but two weeks later the steering went out again. I had seen online somewhere that 2016 Fusion also had some wires in steering column short out due to loose steering wheel but dealer said they were not aware of that issue. Bohn Ford Lapalco Blvd. Marrero, La. performed the repair on the vehicle. I’m offshore Gulf of Mexico working so I don’t have repair paperwork.
Date of first incident was Nov 19, 2023. I was driving home from taking my elderly mother to the doctor and my engine just shut off. I had plenty of gas, my oil and transmission had been changed, no warning lights came on my dash prior to the engine stopping. The only message I had on my car said the car is not in park. No one can seem to find out why. It has done this at a moderate rate of speed (45mph). My steering wheel locked and I can't steer the car giving me the option to get to a safe place on the road. I have to hit another vehicle or hit a pole. I have good insurance but I don't want to use it to fix body damage. I can't afford that with a 300 dollar car payment. My break sensor error light will come on as well and I went to have the breaks changed and fluid replaced but it doesn't work. I am afraid that I might get hurt or someone else will, but I can't afford another care to help care for my parents or get to the doctor. The Ford dealership will not let me trade it in unless I give them 7000 dollars. The transmission will Jerk when changing gears. I still owe 9000 dollars. I looked online to see if I could find a solution and multiple people are complaining about the same problem.

On affected vehicles, the steering-wheel bolt may not maintain enough pressure, allowing it to loosen over time. As a result, the steering wheel may detach.

The steering wheel has became severely loose to the point of almost detached. Ford claims there is no recall on this part for this model, however I've read that many people have had this problem. It is a high safety concern.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35-40 MPH and attempting to turn to the right, the steering wheel tightened as if the power steering assist had failed. The failure occurred and then self-corrected intermittently. The failure had become persistent over time. There were no warning lights illuminated during the failure. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the power steering failed, and the steering rack needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was currently being repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that there was no recall on the VIN for the coverage of the repair. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 43,000.

This incident has happened to me more than once in the past few months. I am driving along the highway and all of a sudden I lose my power steering. The dashboard reads STEERING ASSIST FAULT. Service required. As well as Service Advance Trac. Safety issue because going at moderate speed to get onto highway and losing all power steering could cause me to go off road if in bad weather like rain or snow. In each situation all it took was me pulling off road and resetting the car by turning engine off and then turning it back on. I have take it to a Ford dealership near me and they ran a full diagnostics but couldnt find anything really wrong with it but it continues to happen at least once a month. Ive read similar incidents with Ford Fusion owners on Google and they werent sure as I that if it was the brake sensor or ABS Module that needs to be replaced. Any assistance or advice you could give me would be appreciated.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel became loosened. The contact stated that the failure increased significantly, and the vehicle had become undriveable. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V167000 (Steering). The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact the vehicle was not included in the recall. No further information was provided. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown. The VIN was not available.
I have an electric power, steering rack and assist and it failed on the way to Pennsylvania to visit my daughter and grandchildren. I had to drive an additional 42 miles with no power steering. There was a recall, supposedly completed for the bolts in the Assist, and I no longer have a warranty on this. it was fine until 5 hours into my trip.
Power steering fault
I was driving to a friends house when my car start to make a dinging sound, and on the dashboard it said that power steering was lost, and to pull over safely. When i tried to turn the car on and off again to see if it might have been a glitch, the wheel locked up and I couldn’t turn it, without almost breaking it. If i want going to my friends house when it happened, my car would have been in an accident on a highway going towards my house, possibly causing multiple injuries and accidents since it happened late in the afternoon almost night time. I went to have it looked at by a mechanic and they said it could possibly be the rack and pinion when they ran the codes. The only warning i got was that my car was saying that the hill assist parking was turned off, even though i never turned it off.
When driving straight the steering wheel was turned to the right, after I turned the steering wheel a couple of turns the steering wheel and the car was driving straight. the stirring wheel was wobbly. I took it to a dealer they tightened up the steering wheel. no warning signs
The steering wheel is suddenly incredibly loose and while in park the steering wheel will rotate but the tires do not move with the steering wheel. While driving the steering wheel suddenly gets caught on something and will hold the steering wheel in place while turning the steering wheel. I have not the slightest idea on why this is happening but it is very concerning.
The power steering assist on my car completely shut off while I was on the highway. I almost got into multiple head-on collisions trying to get the car back home, and I have not been able to drive it since. The part that is faulty is very common in 2016 Ford Fusions, under the recall number #19S26. However, for some reason Ford is saying the recall is not available anymore to me, because it passed prior inspection two years ago when I bought the car. There were warnings as the steering shut off to stop the car, letting me know that I had power steering loss. I know from personal research that Ford should offer a recall for this, especially since they "inspected" it before letting me purchase the car, just 24 months ago. I spent $14000 on a relatively new car, and now they are charging $4500 to fix this part that was originally recalled. They either repaired it wrong, or there should be a recall administered for the repair. Thank you for your help
WHILE DRIVING TRYING TO MAKE A TURN...MY STEERING WHEEL JERKED AND I ALMOST RAN INTO A PARKED CAR BECAUSE MY POWER STEERING JUST ALL OF A SUDDEN FAILED!!! HOW DOES THAT..JUST HAPPEN? SO MY POWER STEERING ASSIST AND MY SERVICE ADVANCED TRAC LIGHT CAME ON.. AFTER THIS HAPPENED..! UNACCEPTABLE..I TAKE GOOD CARE OF MY VEHICLE..SO I SEE THERE WERE A WHOLE LOT OF COMPLAINTS OF THIS HAPPENING...AND WOULD LIKE FORD DEALER TO RECTIFY THIS PROBLEM IMMEDIATLY...THIS IS UNSAFE. IM IN CHICAGO.

The power steering goes out randomly, mostly when it is hot outside or on the interior. It is not included in the current recall for this issue, however it needs to be. It happened in 2021 and now is still happening in 2022. No issues prior to the failure until power steering alert goes off. I have almost crashed multiple times due to this failure.
While I am driving, the "Service AdvanceTrac" light comes on and flashes between these two error messages: "Hillside Start Assist Not Available" "Check Rear Park Aid" While these lights are flashing, the ABS light, airbag light, and the stability control light all come on and stay on, as well as the power steering goes out. This happens at random times, driving on expressways, in local stop and go traffic. In addition, the times the lights are not blinking and power steering is out, the brake pulses when you use it as if the ABS system was triggered- but for no reason. The road is fine, driving conditions are perfect--- no reason at all for it to happen. I bought the car from Dana Ford in August 2020 and brought it in over 6 times for this problem. Dana Ford had my car for well over 6 of the first 9 months I had it, and it was never fixed while under warranty. They claimed when they took it on a test drive, there was no problem, even though they told me they can see all the error messages the car gives on their computers and even though I have many many pictures and videos of the problem. I"m driving around with kids in the car, and my steering goes out, and if that isnt happening, my brakes are pulsing and skipping. Dana Ford jerked me around until my warranty was up---never fixing it.
AdvanceTrac System Malfunctioning 3 times while driving the AdvanceTrac system has malfunctioned while turning. Each incident, the Service AdvanceTrac light has come on mid turn, causing steering wheel to feel tight, not sure turn able in the moment, everything happens in a second or two. Two of the 3 incidents of AdvanceTrac abruptly disabling itself resulted in close calls with me almost not completing my turn safely and coming close to colliding with other vehicles on the roadway. Hill Assist and AdvanceTrac turn off causing multiple dash lights and warnings. I took the car today to Ed Morse Ford, Lebanon MO for diagnosis. I was told by the service department that because I had turned the car off, no error code could be scanned on the AdvanceTrac. In addition, a mechanic drove the vehicle and could not duplicate the issue. Service department indicated the "probable cause" was a steering assembly needed to be replaced at the cost of $2700. No explanation of how the mechanic made this determination without being able to duplicate the issue. I was told the AdvanceTrak system is not connected to the check engine system (the system that does store codes and errors) so there was nothing they could verify without duplication, yet again, wanted $2700 for a major component switch out. AdvanceTrak is Ford's proprietary property, yet is has no consumer safe guards to monitor any system defects- completely unacceptable and unsafe.
Power steering suddenly failed during left turn at low speed. "Steering Assist Fault", "Service AdvanceTrac" warnings as well as hill decent Dash has the two Stability Control Lights illuminated. There is no check engine light
Hello, I was driving towards the hotel I was staying at when I heard some squeaky noises when I was turning my car (this was at night). The next day, I was leaving the parking garage, about to drive onto a main road when my power steering went. I got the car towed to the auto dealership and it turns out that there are three recalls out on my car. One of which has to do with the steering bolts becoming corroded and the steering gear detaching and the the power steering going as a result. Yet the dealership is saying that the bolts are not corded so it is an internal issue. My car only has 66k miles on it … for the power steering to go while you are driving is very scary. It seems like this is a common issue and Ford is avoiding the issue with the steering gear by blaming it on just the bolts to the steering gear. The codes that the dealer said were being thrown are as follows: u0420:00 u0420:86 C102d
steering wheel attachment bolt came loose
While we were driving all dashboard lights came on and the power steering stooped working. This car had only 37841 miles, the shop had to replace complete steering gear/electronic
On Saturday Feb 5th, while driving our vehicle on the highway, the steering wheel started coming loose. By the time we parked the car in our driveway, the steering wheel was rocking in all directions at an inch. We had the steering wheel bolt replaced in 2018, because of this part being recalled. After being towed to a dealership, their claim is that it was caused by the bolt not being properly torqued during the recall. That seems unlikely, due to the time that has passed.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the power steering assist failed, causing the steering wheel to make a loud screeching sound. The steering wheel then seized. The dealer was made aware of the failure; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V632000 (Steering) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 122,000.

It’s the power steering it’s hard too turn my steering wheel at times
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the power steering assist and traction control warning lights illuminated. The power steering assists then failed. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to file a complaint with NHTSA. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V632000 (Steering) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was 38,898.

I replaced the starter battery after the original battery reached the end of its life. Upon installing the new battery, I had dashboard messages showing “Electric Power Steering Assist failed” And other cascaded systems offline because of no steering. Without the steering assistance, the safety of driving the car is questionable. It is more difficult to steer than a vehicle without power steering. It takes all the strength to turn the wheel, even when the vehicle is moving. This vehicle had been serviced for a previous related recall in which the steering bolts would fail. Perhaps the replacement bolts have also failed. Whatever the root cause, the resultant failure mode has a high severity (lack of steering capability by a normal strength person). This could cause an accident.
At times when i put the car in gear & other times when i am actually driving, all of the warning lights & alarms (Rear Park Aid, ABS, Hill Start Assist Not Available, Service Advance Trac, & Stability Control Off), come on all at the same time. When these lights & alarms pop on, the steering gets a little harder, not losing all power steering, but again, the steering is a little harder & i don't think that's a good thing to have happen. Also while driving, the Anti-Lock Break System starts clicking. And sometimes when i start to mash on the break peddle, the peddle kind of drops down a little. Not to the point where it has caused the breaks to lock up, but i'm still not comfortable with that. If you were to do an online search of this problem you will see that several people are complaining about this same problem. I have reported this problem to my Ford Service Center, Southworth Ford in Marion, IN, as early as March of this year & the latest report 10/4/21, but they say they can't find anything wrong right now, but for me to document every time it happens, even after i have tried to show them the videos of this problem stored on my phone. I also contacted the Auto Safety Center, & they were the ones who directed me to you. I wish that i knew how to share the videos that i have with you, but i have not learned how to do that as of yet. Thank you for your time & all that you all do to keep us safe on the road. God Bless you all! Have a Blessed weekend!
I'm just wondering how it is even remotely legal to sell a vehicle, whether used or new, with current open recalls. When I purchased my vehicle through Triple J Auto in Guam, they never informed me of any open recalls when I purchased the vehicle. Technically the car was in a used status, but, coming from the Department of Highway SAFETY, it seems preposterous that you would allow any vehicle to be sold with open recalls against the vehicle. I am just looking for any information as to how this could have gone unresolved for over three years, without me just looking up the VIN on a random day. Thank you
I can be driving and/or stopped and ABS, stability control and steering wheel indicator lights come on. Once I stop car and turn off for a few seconds and then turn back on, errors go away. Nothing may happen for a week but then the next week it may happen every time I drive. For me, this is a safety issue because once steering wheel has no power it is very, very hard to turn. I am attaching a “vehicle diagnostic report” that shows 2 of 18 systems had errors.
MY CAR STEERING WHEEL IS VERY TIGHT AND I'M WONDERING WHAT COULD IT BE IF I FIXED EVERYTHING

FEBRUARY 19TH, 2021 (FRIDAY) WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED THE DASH LIGHTS FOR CHECK ENGINE, STABILITY CONTROL, EMERGENCY BRAKE, AIRBAG LIGHT, ADVANCE TRACK AND STEERING ASSIST FAULT BECAME ILLUMINATED. WHEN THE LIGHTS CAME ON, THE DRIVER WAS UNABLE TO USE TURN SIGNALS AND STEERING BECAME STIFF. THE DRIVER TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND TURNED IT BACK ON, THE LIGHTS WERE NO LONGER ILLUMINATED AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME (20 MILES) WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THE FOLLOWING DAY (SATURDAY) THE DRIVER WAS DRIVING AT 70MPH ON THE HIGH WAY WHEN THE LIGHTS CAME ON AGAIN. THEY IMMEDIATELY EXITED THE HIGHWAY (THIS IS WHEN IT WAS LEARNED THAT THE TURN SIGNALS WOULD NOT WORK). THE DRIVER AGAIN TURNED OFF AND TURNED BACK ON THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER DROVE THE VEHICLE ANOTHER 50 MILES WITHOUT INCIDENT AND SCHEDULED A SERVICE APPOINTMENT WITH THE FORD DEALER. SUNDAY, WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70MPH, THE VEHICLE LIGHTS AGAIN CAME ON. THE DRIVER EXITED THE HIGHWAY AND POWERED OFF/ON THE VEHICLE AGAIN. AND WAS ABLE TO COMPLETE THEIR TRIP WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT OPERATED AGAIN UNTIL TUESDAY, FEB 23RD WHEN IT WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALER (5 MILE TRIP AT 40MPH). NO LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED WHEN BROUGHT TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE APPOINTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BEECHMONT FORD, CINCINNATI OH FOR ASSESSMENT AND REPAIR. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE RACK ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE OWNER HAD THE VEHICLE LESS THAN 3 MONTHS AND PURCHASED FROM THIS DEALER. CURRENT MILEAGE IS 45K

IT FINALLY REGAINED SOME CONTROL BUT THE STEERING IS NOT CONSISTENT, IT DOESNT SEEM LIKE, ITS IN CONSTANT CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, ALMOST LIKE ITS SHORTING OUT.

I WAS DOING HIGHWAY SPEEDS. WHILE THIS IS A NEW TO ME CAR I HAVE ALWAYS HAD FORDS INCLUDING AN EXCURSION AND MORE RECENTLY AN 07 FOCUS THAT DIED AT 300,000. I NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES WITH THEM ALBEIT THEY WERE BOTH NEW. I AM TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS VEHICLE AND IT REALLY HAS ME THINKING ABOUT NEVER BUYING A FORD AGAIN.

A FEW WEEKS AFTER HAVING RECEALLS PERFORMED FOR THE STEERING AND AIRBAG ISSUES, I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND GOT A WARNING LIGHT(ATTACHED) THAT SAID "STEERING FAULT SERVICE NOW". THE STEERING BACAME SLIGHTLY STICKY BUT STILL DRIVABLE. AFTER REACBING MY DESTINATION AND RESTARTING MY CAR, I THEN RECEIVED THE SAME FAULT LIGHT AS WELL AS TRACTION CONTROL, AND AIRBAG LIGHTS. I HAVE HAD ZERO ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE AS LONG AS I'VE OWNED IT PRIOR TO IT BEING AT THE DEALER FOR THE RECALLS. THE STEERING WAS NOW ALMOSY INOPPERABLE AND REQUIRED ALOT OF STRENGTH TO MAKE ANY TURN LEFT OR RIGHT. WHILE LUCKILY THE STEERING GOT VERY BAD ON SIDE STREETS, THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN SOME SERIOUS INJURY OR PROBLEMS IF IT HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY I FEEL. THIS VEHICLE IS JUST ONLY 4 YEARS OLD AND I HAVE A HARD TIME BELIEVING THAT THE STEERING MECHANISM SHOULD BE FAULTY ALREADY. I UNFORTUNATELY DO NOT HAVE WARRANTY ON THIS PART OF THE VEHICLE SO I AM NOW LEFT WITH A $2500 BILL TO REPAIR A SEALED RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY THAT DOESN'T (TO MY KNOWLEDGE) REQUIRE ANY MAINTENACE. HOPEFULLY THERE ARE ENOUGH OF THIS ISSUES TO WARRANT AN INVESTIGATION AND POSSIBLE RECALL. THANK YOU,

NO POWER STEERING ASSIST, THIS IS 3RD TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. PREVIOUS REPAIRS HAVE BEEN TO WIRE CONNECTIONS. THIS TIME WE WERE INFORMED MODULE IS NOT COMMUNICATING. COST OF REPAIR ESTIMATED AT $2,100.00. SHOP INFORMED ME THAT DEALER SAYS THERE ARE OVER 900 MODULES ON BACKORDER. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS A PROBLEM. THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN WHEN THIS OCCURED. STEERING ABSOLUTELY VERY DIFFICULT. FEEL FORTUNATE THAT DIDN'T HAVE TO MAKE ANY EVASIVE MANUVERS TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. VERY UNSAFE.

STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKED AND NO POWER STEERING. I THINK IT'S DUE TO RECALLS ON FORD FUSIONS. MY CAR DOESN'T HAVE ONE BUT I THINK IT SHOULD. THE RECALL IS THE ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM. MY CAR IS ONLY FOUR YEARS OLD I SHOULDN'T HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THE CAR WAS PARKED WHEN THIS HAPPENED BUT WHAT IF WE WERE ON THE HIGHWAY.
MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO DRIVE (FORD FUSION 2016 2L 5SPEED AUTOMATIC). IT SHUDDERED AND CRAWLED FORWARD BUT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT ENGAGE. I BRAKED TO A STOP PUT IT PARK AND THE CAR WAS STILL SHUDDERING. I TURNED IGNITION OFF AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART ENGINE AND ENGAGE FROM PARK TO DRIVE. IT DID NOT SHIFT TO DRIVE BUT SHUDDERED. I HAD TO REPEAT THIS PROCESS 4-5 TIMES AND THEN IT FINALLY MOVED FROM PARK TO DRIVE AND DROVE SOMEWHAT NORMAL 1 DAY PRIOR THE CAR WAS JERKY AS IT ENGAGED. THIS JERKY BEHAVIOR OF THE TRANSMISSION AT LOW SPEEDS I WAS EXPERIENCING YESTERDAY RETURNED . THE CAR BECAME DRIVEABLE BUT NOW A I AM VERY SUPSECT AND I CANNOT FIND A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE THAT MATCHES MY VIN NUMBER. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD ABOUT APPROX 40 MPH WHEN MY LIGHT WENT OFF SAYING THAT MY TRACTION CONTROLS WERE BOTH ON AND IN USE. IT WAS LIKE MY POWER STEERING WENT COMPLETELY OUT, OUT OF NO WHERE. I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT AND IT ALSO POPPED UP THAT MY STEERING AND HILL ASSIST WAS NOT WORKING. I WAS AFRAID TO PULL OVER AND SHUT MY CAR OFF AND BE STUCK, SO I DROVE IT DOWN THE ROAD A FEW MILES MORE AND TURNED IT OFF IN MY PARKING LOT. WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON, EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE. ALSO, AFTER FUELING MY VEHICLE UP, IT HAS BEEN ROUGH IDLING FOR A DEW AND THEN WILL EVEN OUT. WHEN STOPPING AT A LIGHT, IT WILL ALSO ROUGH IDLE AND EVEN BACK OUT AS WELL. I AM AT APPROX 65,000 MILES, 2016 AWD FORD FUSION TURBO. I AM DUE FOR AN INSPECTION AND OIL CHANGE NEXT WEEK AND HOPEFULLY GET SOME ANSWERS AS TO WHAT IT COULD BE. I'M NOT SURE THE CAUSE OF THIS OR HOW IT CAN BE RESOLVED. ELECTRONIC WARNING THAT THE POWER STEERING IS NO LONGER FUNCTIONING PROPERTY, EPA LIGHT FLASHING ON AND OFF, AND STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE REAR PARK AID. MY CAR HAS LESS THAN 30K MILES AND IT HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES DRIVING BOTH LOCALLY AND HIGHWAY MILES. TYPICALLY WILL OCCUR AFTER DRIVING FOR MORE THAN 5 MINUTES, PROBLEM CAN BE FIXED BY PUTTING VEHICLE IN DRIVE AND ROTATING WHEEL ALL THE WAY IN BOTH DIRECTIONS AND THEN RESTARTING VEHICLE. PROBLEMS IS RECURRING THOUGH AND HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES IN THE PAST 3 WEEKS. PROBLEM CAUSES STEERING WHEEL TO BECOME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN AND LEADS TO ISSUES MANEUVERING THE VEHICLE. ALL OF A SUDDEN WHEN I WAS DRIVING THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. THE TRACTION CONTROL ALSO WENT OFF AND WILL NOT COME BACK ON. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND IT WILL NOT COME BACK ON.
Mileage: 83,000
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR ON BOTH THE HIGHWAY AND ON CITY STREETS THE STEERING LOCKED AND THE POWER ASSIST QUIT. THE MIL TRACTION CONTROL SYMBOL LIT AND THE WARNING CENTER SAID IT WAS DISABLED. THE MIL STEERING ASSIST CONTROL SYMBOL LIT AND THE WARNING CENTER SAID IT WAS DISABLED. IN BOTH DRIVING INSTANCES THE STEERING WHEEL WAS BEING TURNED FROM MODERATE (INTERSTATE HIGHWAY SPEED) TURNING TO SHARP TURNING (CITY STREET SPEED). IN BOTH INSTANCES I WAS ABLE TO AVOID HITTING CLOSE, SURROUNDING VEHICLES AND IN THE CASE OF THE CITY OCCURRENCE, PEDESTRIANS. IN BOTH INSTANCES I PULLED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND ACCESSORIES. I WAITED ABOUT A MINUTE AND PERFORMED AN ENGINE RE-START. THE MIL'S WERE NOT LIT AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST RETURNED. IN BOTH INSTANCES THE SAME CONDITION APPEARED ABOUT 20 MINUTES LATER, AND A ENGINE STOP/RE-START HAD TO BE PERFORMED. I HAVE INCLUDED PHOTOS OF THE DASHBOARD INFORMATION CENTER. THIS IS A 2016 FUSION WITH 65,000 MILES AND I BELIEVE THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING RACK.
Mileage: 65,000
VEHICLE HAD A TOTAL LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHILE IN MOTION ON CITY STREET. MULTIPLE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON INCLUDING POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT AND ADVANCE TRAC FAULT. LOSS OF POWER STEERING CAUSED VEHICLE TO BECOME DIFFICULT TO CONTROL.
Mileage: 32,000
WHILE I WAS DRIVING THERE WERE A ISSUE THAT THE TURNING LEFT AND RIGHT DIRECTIONAL WEREN'T WORKING. NOTHING WOULD COME TO THE HUD IN THE VEHICLE NO BLINKERS NEITHER SOUND. I ASSUMED IT'S AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM, ALSO THE CONTROLS FROM THE STEERING WHEEL DOESN'T WORK ASWELL. I'VE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY HAD FOUND NOTHING. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS DEFECT, DUE TO A SCARE OF THE STEERING WHEEL NOT FUNCTIONING AGAIN AND WHILE DRIVING AROUND THE BLINKER WON'T ACTIVATE WHEN ITS SUPPOSE TOO.
Mileage: 23,000
THIS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE 2016 & ITS 2019... WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY TO WORK MY STEERING SUDDENLY LOCKED UP AND JERKED AND THEN I GOT MULTIPLE ALERTS AND LOST POWER STEERING. THE ALERTS WERE "SERVICE ADVANCETRAC" "STEERING ASSIST FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED" "HILL ASSIST NOT WORKING" "SERVICE BATTERY CHARGING SYSTEM" AND THERE WERE TWO TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS. AFTER WORK THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS AND ALERTS WERE STILL ON AND I DID NOT HAVE POWER STEERING ON THE DRIVE HOME.

I WAS GETTING READY TO LEAVE MY PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT IN THE PARKING LOT AND I TRIED TO PUT MY CAR IN DRIVE BUT THE GEAR SHIFT WAS NOT REGISTERING. GEAR SHIFT INSIDE THE CAR SAID DRIVE BUT MY CAR WAS STILL IN PARK. LATER FOUND OUT AFTER I DID SOME INSPECTING THAT THE SHIFT CABLE BUSHING HAD POP OFF, AND THAT'S WHY I WASN'T ABLE TO MOVE MY CAR
Mileage: 9,000
STEERING WHEEL ROTATES LEFT TO RIGHT ABOUT 30 DEGREES AT LOW SPEEDS UP TO ABOUT 40 MPH. DOES THIS ON ACCELERATION AND BRAKING, ON ANY SURFACE. THIS FAULT TAKES PLACE ALL OF THE TIME IT IS BEING DRIVEN.
Mileage: 23,252
MY CAR HAS APPARENTLY BEEN UNDER A RECALL FROM FORD REGARDING THE STEERING WHEEL SINCE MARCH OF 2018. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO CRAIN FORD TO BE SERVICED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE 2018 AND WAS NEVER TOLD ABOUT THE RECALL. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO CRAIN ON THURSDAY NIGHT AFTER AN ISSUE WITH THE GEAR SHIFT. UPON DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE ON FRIDAY, I FOUND THAT MY CAR IS NOW UNDER 2 DIFFERENT RECALLS. I WAS TOLD FRIDAY THAT MY CAR WOULD BE SERVICED FIRST THING MONDAY MORNING AND I WOULD BE CALLED AND UPDATED ON THE SITUATION. I ALSO WAS NOT OFFERED A LOANER CAR, AND UPON ASKING IF I COULD OBTAIN ONE, WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE COMPLETELY OUT. I HAVE SINCE HAD TO CALL THEM TWICE THIS MORNING, AND WAS PUT ON HOLD IN THE EXCESS OF 10 MINUTES EACH TIME. I AM CURRENTLY WAITING ON A CALL BACK TO DETERMINE WHAT TIME I WILL BE ABLE TO GO PICK UP MY CAR, IF I CAN AT ALL, TODAY. I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT A VEHICLE ALL WEEKEND. I AM CURRENTLY HAVING TO MISS WORK BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION TO GET THERE. I AM VERY UNSATISFIED WITH FORD, AND CRAIN FORD OF LITTLE ROCK.
Mileage: 77,000
STEERING STOPPED WORKING AND BECAME VERY STIFF MAKING IT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL. NEARLY CAUSED A FATAL ACCIDENT. A LIGHT CAME ON STATING "STEERING ASSIST FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED". THIS APPEARS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE AD WAS PART OF A RECALL BY FORD IN PREVIOUS YEARS BUT HAVE NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE 2016 YEAR MODEL. THE VEHICLE WAS ON A COUNTY ROAD WHEN IT OCCURRED. NORMAL DRIVING WHEN THE STEERING WENT OUT. THANKFULLY TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT.

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR IN THE RAIN AND HIT A SMALL PUDDLE. SHORTLY AFTERWARDS THE STEERING BECAME VERY DIFFICULT. THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE BUT THOUGHT THIS ISSUE WAS FIXED AS IT HAS NOT HAPPENED IN SOME TIME.
BACKED OUT OF DRIVEWAY ON A MAIN ROAD AND PUT CAR IN DRIVE BUT IT KEPT ROLLING BACKWARDS PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND PUT IT IN PARK BUT IT STILL ROLLED BACK AFTER SEVERAL TRIES TO CHANGE GEARS AND IT DID NOT COME OUT OF REVERSE I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND CUT IT OFF AND IT WOULD NOT CRANK. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR MULTIPLE ALARMS SOUNDED AND THE DISPLAY SHOWED THE FOLLOWING ERRORS: STEERING ASSIST FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED, SERVICE ADVANCETRAC, PRE-COLLISSION ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE, HILL START ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE. THE CAR HAS 13514.1 MILES ON THE ODOMETER AT THE TIME OF THIS OCCURRENCE. THE CAR HAD BEEN DRIVEN LESS THAN 10 MILES EARLIER IN THE DAY BUT HAD BEEN PARKED WITH THE ENGINE OFF FOR NEARLY 8 HOURS. I DID NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE DIFFICULT, IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE, CHORE OF TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED IT SEVERAL TIMES ATTEMPTING TO SEE IF THE FAULTS WOULD CLEAR ON THEIR OWN. NO LUCK.
Mileage: 135,141
WHEN I WAS LEASING THIS VEHICLE THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM ASSAULT LIGHT STARTED COMING ON THEN PIWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING AND I HAD NO POWER STEERING AT ALL. MY TRANSMISSION ALSO FAILED. FORD DEALER REFUSED TO FIX IT BECAUSE I WAS OVER THE LEASE MILEAGE. I WAS SENT HOME WITH THE CAR WITHOUT POWER STEERING AND IN NEED OF TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME TO PAY THE 3.000 TO FIX IT BECAUSE I WAS RISKING MY LIFE. THE MANAGER SAID THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD DO UNDER THE LEASE WARRANTY. BUT IT WAS A LEASE AND I DID NOT HAVE THE MONEY FOR REPAIRS. I LATER DISCOVERED 5 RECALLS FOR THE CAR. I WAS ONLY NOTIFIED OF TWO, STEERING AND TRANSMISSION. THIS WAS IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS WHEN I NO LONGER HAVE THE CAR. . ACCIDENTS OCCURRED BEFORE THE STEERING COMPLETELY FAILED. BOTH INVOLVED THE CAR MOVING WITHOUT ACCELERATING. IT WAS ON A TOWN STREET AT A LIGHT BOTH TIMES. I WAS BEHIND ANOTHER CAR BOTH TIMES AS WELL. MY CAR INSURANCE HAS GONE UP BECAUSE OF THESE ACCIDENTS AND I HAVE SEVERE BACK PAIN FROM DRIVING ALL THOSE MONTHS WITH NO POWER STEERING. BUT I HAD NO CHOICE AS A SINGLE MOTHER WORKING MANY DIFFERENT LOCATIONS REQUIRING DAILY TRAVEL. ALSO, I HAVE TO LOOK BACK FOR THE CORRECT DATE OF WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR FOR SERVICE AND WAS REFUSED REPAIRS BY THE FORD DEALERSHIP MECHANIC DEPARTMENT WHERE I LEASED IT, EVEN THOUGH THE ISSUES WERE CAR DEFECTS. THEREFORE, I ENTERED JANUARY OF 2017, SINCE IT WAS EITHER DURING 2016 OR BEGINNING OF 2017 THAT THESE ISSUES SURFACED. ALSO, ONE OF THESE ACCIDENTS WHERE THE CAR MOVED WITHOUT ACCELERATING DID MOT INVOLVE A POLICE REPORT, ONLY THE EXCHANGE OF INSURANCE INFORMATION. THE CAR SPEED IS NOT SAVING IN THE BOX BELOW. I WAS COMING TO A STOP IN ONE ACCIDENT AND WAS STOPPED COMPLETELY DURING ANOTHER. THIS IS MY BEST RECALL OF THE INFORMATION.
STRANDED BECAUSE SHIFTER CABLE BROKE. I HAD TO DRIVE A RENTAL CAR HOME FROM OHIO.I WAS ABLE TO BYPASS THE SHIFTER CABLE TO GET HOME AND NOT TAKE THE CAR OUT OF GEAR. I HAD KIDS IN THE CAR AND THE WEATHER WAS 103 DEGREES. THE CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR FOR ME TO START AND PUT THE AIR ON. KIDS WERE REALLY HOT AND I HAVE TO GET THE CAR TOWED TO A DEALER. NOW THE DEALERSHIP IS TELLING ME THAT I HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED UNTIL THE REVISED PARTS COME IN. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS. CAR WONT START, BECAUSE THE CAR DOESNT KNOW IT IS IN PARK.
Mileage: 91,000

WHEN DRIVING MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT RANDOMLY TURNS ON, ON THE FREEWAY, STREET, TURNING, ETC. AND THEN IT SAYS CHECK MANUAL. THE CAR STARTS SHAKING AND YOU CAN'T ACCELERATE. IN ORDER TO GET WHERE I NEED TO BE I HAVE TO PULL OVER CONSTANTLY AND RESTART THE CAR. I GOT IT CHECKED AT AUTO ZONE AND IT SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY ACTUATOR STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION. OH AND BECOMES MORE DIFFICULT TO STEER THE VEHICLE WHEN THE ERROR POPS UP.

I PURCHASED 2 FEDERAL FORMOSA FD2 TIRES 235/50R17 96W. THEY WERE INSTALLED IN THE REAR OF MY CAR. THEY WERE BALANCED, AND INFLATED TO AUTO MANUFACTURER INSTRUCTIONS. WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON A HWY OR FWY ABOVE APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH THE CAR STABILITY CONTROL SENSOR TRIGGERS. THE CAR'S REAR WOBBLES BACK AND FORTH AND FEELS VERY INSECURE. DID SOME RESEARCH AND SEVERAL PEOPLE COMPLAIN THAT THE SIDEWALLS ARE TOO WEAK CAUSING THE VEHICLES TO WOBBLE. SINCE I DRIVE MY CHILDREN IN MY CAR, I FEEL VERY CONCERNED THAT THE TIRE MAY COME OFF THE RIM OR EXPLODE DUE TO THIS CONDITION. WHO CAN I TAKE THESE TIRES TO SO THEY CAN BE RATED OR INSPECTED?

THIS VEHICLE IS AT 48800 MILES AND I STARTED TO RECEIVE THE FOLLOWING WARNINGS/ERRORS ON MY DASHBOARD WHEN THE PROBLEMS BEGAN: "HILL HOLD ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE", "SERVICE ADVANCETRACK", ABS FAULT AND AIRBAG FAILURE SIGN LIGHTS REMAIN WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE CAR. AFTER THESE WARNINGS I LOST POWER STEERING ASSIST AND PULLED OVER AND RESTARTED THE CAR. HOWEVER THE WARNING SIGNS DID NOT CLEAR AND I LOST ABS, TRACTION CONTROL AND AIRBAGS. I HAVE CONTACTED WITH A FORD DEALER TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. ERROR CODES THEY GOT FROM THE CAR WERE C0031 AND U0401. THE FIRST ONE IS RELATED TO A SHORT WIRE IN THE ABS WHEEL SPEED SENSOR AT THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT WHEEL AND THIS PART WAS REPLACED AT THE DEALER. HOWEVER, AFTER REPLACEMENT ALL THE MENTIONED WARNINGS/ERRORS REMAIN AND U0401 CODE REMAINED. DEALER DOES NOT KNOW WHETHER THESE ARE JUST FROM COMMUNICATION ERROR FROM THE COMPUTER OR THESE PARTS ARE ACTUALLY DEFECTIVE. I AM NOT ABLE TO USE THE CAR RIGHT NOW. IN ANY CASE, ALL OF THE AFFECTED SYSTEMS ARE NOT RELATED WITH DRIVERS DRIVING HABITS, STORAGE CONDITIONS AND OTHER THINGS RELATED TO THE USAGE OF THE CAR AND SEEMS LIKE A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM, EVEN IF IT IS A COMMUNICATION ERROR OR WIRING PROBLEM. AND THE AFFECTED COMPONENTS ARE VITAL SO IF THERE IS A PRODUCTION ERROR, THIS SHOULD BE RESOLVED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

SOMETHING HAS TO DONE ABOUT THIS BECAUSE I DID SOME DIGGING AND FOUND OUT THAT I'M NOT THE FIRST ONE THIS HAPPENED TO. THIS HAS BEEN A ON GOING PROBLEM IN FORD FUSIONS SINCE 2014. MY STEERING WHEEL BECAME UNHINGED ON ITS OWN AND IT BECAME VERY LOOSE. THE FORD DEALERSHIP CLAIMED IT WAS FROM PULLING ON THE STEERING WHEEL, BUT THAT CANNOT BE THE CASE. I FIRST NOTICED IT DRIVING INTO WORK AND THE STEERING WHEEL ALL OF A SUDDEN WENT LEFT TO RIGHT RATHER QUICKLY. I DIDN'T LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR, BUT I BELIEVE THAT WAS THE MOMENT THE STEERING WHEEL GOT LOOSE. THEN AS I WAS STARTING TO LEAVE WORK THAT AFTERNOON, THE STEERING WHEEL JUST SAGGED DOWN AND MADE IT DIFFICULT TO DRIVE. I HAVE DOCUMENTS OF THE INVOICE FROM FORD. I REALLY FEEL LIKE THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. *BF *TR

THIS IS THE SECOND YEAR SINCE I BOUGHT IT NEW IN 2016. THE STEERING WHEEL IS GETTING LOOSE AND LOOSE AND IT IS NOW HARD FOR ME TO DRIVE EXACTLY STRAIGHT AT A HIGH SPEED (AT OR ABOVE 55MPH).
Mileage: 11,200
I FEEL THE FLOORBOARD MOVING UNDER MY FOOT EVERY TIME I TURN THE WHEEL. TOOK IT IN AND THEY SAID THAT IT DOESNT DO IT. THATS BECAUSE THEY MUST HAVE BENT IT BACK. IT NOW DOES IT BUT BARELY FEEL IT ANYMORE. NOW AFTER READING THIS MAKES ME WONDER IF MY CAR IS SAFE ANYMORE! GUESSING ON THE DATE WITH FORD OF GRESHAM

TAMARA RECALL
THE STEERING WHEEL CAME LOOSE. I WAS ABLE TO TURN, TILT, ROTATE, ETC ON MULTIPLE AXIS (LEFT AND RIGHT AS NORMAL, DIAGONAL, UP AND DOWN, FORWARD AND BACKWARD) UP TO ONE INCH BEFORE RESISTANCE WAS MET. THE MOTION OCCURRED IN THE UPPER PART OF THE STEERING COLUMN, ONLY AFFECTING THE STEERING WHEEL. I WAS STILL ABLE TO TURN THE CAR, AS I COULD FEEL THE LOWER PART OF THE STEERING COLUMN RESPOND IN THE FLOOR. THE STEERING WHEELS INCREASED MOVEMENT OCCURRED REGARDLESS OF DRIVING OR STATIONARY STATUS. I HAVE ATTACHED THE INVOICE FROM THE MECHANIC. IT SHOWS THAT THE NUT HOLDING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE COLUMN, WHICH IS BEHIND THE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY, HAD A COME LOOSE.

AFTER COMING TO A STOP ON OUR HIGHWAY RAMP. I HAD INTENDED TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN. BEFORE I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE MY CAR ACCELERATED CAUSING MY BACK TIRES TO LOCK AND SCREECH. I WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TOWARD THE RIGHT SO THAT I COULD REMAIN ON THE TWO LANE ROAD. MY CAR PULLED TO THE LEFT AND I SLAMMED INTO THE MEDIUM. MY CAR CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP BUT WAS STILL RUNNING. I TURNED OFF THE MEDIUM AND CONTINUED HOME. SHORTLY AFTER I HEARD THUMPING NOISE FOLLOWED BY LOUDER THUMPING AND MY ENTIRE DASH BOARD LIT EXCEPT FOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THE WRENCH. I PULLED MY CAR TO THE SIDE TO FIND I HAD TWO BLOWN FRONT TIRES, MY BUMPER WAS BROKEN AND MY DRIVER SIDE BACK TIRE WENT FLAT WAITING ON A TOW. ALL MY YEARS DRIVING I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED AN UNINTENTIONAL ACCELERATION OF A VEHICLE AND PRAY THAT MYSELF OR GRANDDAUGHTER NEVER HAVE TO AGAIN. *TR

WENT TO GO TO LUNCH TODAY AND CRANKED THE CAR UP AND IT STARTED AND NO LIGHTS CAME ON OR RADIO. STARTED TO BACK OUT AND THERE WAS NO STEERING. TURNED OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED IT AND THE RADIO AND LIGHTS CAME ON BUT SERVICETRAC LIGHT STILL WAS ON DASH. CALLED FORD AND THEY SAID IT WAS A STEERING FAULT BUT TO STILL DRIVE IT AND BRING IT IN ON WEDNESDAY THAT IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. UM I AM NOT AN IDIOT BUT THAT DOES NOT SEEM SAFE TO DRIVE IF THE STEERING GOES OUT. LIGHT WENT OFF AFTER I LEFT WORK AND ALL IS WORKING FOR NOW.
THE STEERING ASSIST, ELECTRIC POWER STEERING, HAD A "FAULT" AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START/CRANK. BEFORE THIS HAPPENED THE STEERING WAS STRANGE, IT WAS LIKE THERE WERE STRING WINDS WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR WOULD SWAY SIDE TO SIDE.
Mileage: 400
