Vehicle is experiencing coolant intrusion from a crack in the engine block 3rd cylinder which is a known issue by Ford for my particular vehicle year (2017). Ford has issued a TSB/Recall for model years 2017-2019, I believe this issue should qualify for manufacturer recall as this is known issue.

Dec 23, 2025

Ford Fusion 1.5L Ecoboost engines are known to have a fault short block that causes coolant intrusion. This defect does not trigger a check engine light, so there is no way for a driver to identify the problem until it's too late. Ford issued a Technical Safety Bulletin informing mechanics of this issue but customers were not given an option to repair it. A Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP) was initiated to replace some VIN models short blocks, but not all. Other Ford 1.5L Ecoboost engines are having this issue and were not properly informed or given the option to repair through the CSP and are driving cars that can have total engine failure without proper notification. I have taken my Ford Fusion in for all the safety recalls and was never informed of this issue. I was not part of the CSP that aimed to repair the defect because my VIN did not qualify. However, my Ford Fusion 2017 1.5L Ecoboost engine has this same defect and it wasn't caught until damage had been done to the engine and a costly repair was initiated. No check engine light or warning came from Ford to inform me of this issue. I fortunately started hearing noises and went to check it out before taking a long trip in the snow--which could have had disastrous safety consequences if engine failure occurred. I am not the only one with a ford 1.5L Ecoboost engine that has had this issue. Many people have either not been included in the CSP program or were unable to repair in their narrow CSP plan window. Ford is waiting for enough complaints to identify if the issue is more widespread, despite knowing that it is a design flaw. This should be a total safety recall as their is no way for consumers to take proactive action against this defect without extensive knowledge of the issues with these engines, which Ford is not communicating to its customers.

Technical Safety Bulletin 19-2346; coolant infiltrating cylinder #2. Quoted $8350 for long block repair.

Nov 1, 2025

I was experiencing engine vibration while driving and lack of power when I pressed gas pedal. I took it to an independent garage first, and then to the dealer. Both told me there was coolant and water in the cylinders, and the dealer told me I needed a total engine replacement consisting of the long block and the head gasket. And it was going to cost me $14,000. my car only has 44,000 miles on it and Ford told me there was nothing they could do about it even though it was a known issue dating back several years.

2 separate dealerships made me pay to replace faulty tires when the new ones blew out within less than a month of purchase. They also pocketed the mail in rebates I was promised for buying new sets of tires from their locations. I started taking my car to an independent garage for regular maintenance. My traction control light has been on since shortly after I bought the car in 2018 but I never imagined I'd be spending my entire savings on repairs immediately after the useless warranty expired. First it was a cracked flex plate which I'm lucky happened when I was driving on a side road as opposed to the interstate. I was going roughly 55mph when I lost my ability to steer, accelerate, or even cut power to the ignition. My car has been towed 4 times with total cost of almost 10K and it still isn't fixed. I reported everything to Ford they don't stand by anything Ford manufactures. I'll probably be living in this piece of trash soon enough as that savings I just wasted was a down payment for a house

Coolant intrusion and requires short block replacement

Sep 24, 2025

I am a single mother raising my 6-year-old daughter on my own. This past year has been extremely difficult, as my car has been constantly in and out of repair shops. I have spent more than $8,000 in the last year and a half on unexpected repairs, many of them involving serious safety issues. I was never informed about the recall and never received any notice. This situation has caused me a lot of stress and hardship, and I am asking for guidance and support to help me through it. My vehicle had been experiencing overheating issues for several years. This would cause my car to go into limp mode making it dangerous for me and other cars around me to have to go around me. This issue is related to a manufacturing defect caused by the design of the motor cooling system. As a result of this defect I had to pay $8k+ to have this car repaired with a new engine. I am thankful no one was hurt or killed as a result of this defect. It could have caused my car to start on fire. Ford needs to take responsibility for this issue.

Aug 26, 2025

The engine has suffered a complete failure due to a known defect in the 1.5L EcoBoost. This issue was already repaired once under Ford Customer Satisfaction Program 19B37/21N12 (engine short block replacement) on 10/12/2020 at Stilwell Ford, before I owned the vehicle. Less than 5 years later, the exact same defect has occurred again. Details of Failure: •Vehicle began running rough with loss of power and abnormal engine noise. •A compression test performed by my repair shop shows: Cylinder 4 = 0 psi compression, with cylinder wall scoring and oil intrusion. •Shop diagnosis: engine requires complete replacement (~$7,000 repair). •Symptoms are identical to the coolant intrusion / cylinder failure defect covered by Ford’s prior CSP. •This is the second time this defect has occurred on the same vehicle. Safety Risk: •Vehicle misfires and shakes violently, making it unsafe to drive. •Sudden loss of power and potential stalling in traffic pose a serious risk of crash. •Drivers are given no warning before engine failure occurs. Manufacturer Response: •Ford acknowledges this defect under CSP 19B37/21N12 but refuses further coverage since it was “already repaired” once. •As a second owner, I never received notice of the defect. •The fact that the failure recurred shows Ford’s repair program did not fully resolve the defect. Request: I am reporting this as a repeat safety defect. The failure has occurred again after Ford’s supposed remedy. NHTSA should investigate whether Ford’s CSP repairs adequately resolve the defect, and whether additional recalls or coverage extensions are warranted.

2017 Ford Fusion got serviced at Ford dealership June 4, 2025. Service included, transmission flush, fuel induction service, oil change, oil filter change. About a month after service check engine light comes on upon starting the vehicle, but then goes out. A week later check engine light comes back on and would not start properly. Vehicle taken to independent mechanic and was told transmission fluid was low and also old. Vehicle taken to Ford dealership where service was done month prior. Ford dealership said cylinder misfire, coolant intrusion, and engine failure. Also transmission fluid was found to be low. Ford recommended new engine.

Jul 31, 2025

Vehicle is experiencing coolant intrusion from a crack in the engine block which is a known issue by Ford for my particular vehicle year (2017). Ford has issued a TSB/Recall for model years 2017-2019, but when I contacted Ford, I was told my car is not eligible/included in the recall because of the plant that the vehicle was manufactured at. I believe this issue should qualify for manufacturer recall as this is known issue.

Jul 29, 2025

My engine experienced coolant intrusion into cylinder #2, which caused misfiring and engine failure. This has been a known issue with this year model, but since I am just outside of the warranty mileage (69K) and my VIN doesn't have any recalls, I have been advised to purchase a replacement engine. I simply cannot afford to replace an engine in a car I am still paying a loan for. For this to be a known issue and not be recalled is a serious safety concern and has caused me to lose confidence in the manufacturer. I am currently trying to see what a shop near me would charge to replace it but I am not sure that I can afford the repair costs. I shouldn't be expected to need to replace an engine when the year model has known issues and I have taken care of any and all maintenance on the car to keep it running well. I expected to have this car for many more years, especially with the low mileage and how well I've cared for it.

Jul 24, 2025

The vehicle's engine is experiencing coolant intrusion. As such, when starting the car, white and sweet-smelling exhaust exits the exhaust pipe. Furthermore, the coolant reservoir continually runs low; however, we find no coolant on the driveway or apparently leaking from the car. That supports the mechanics assessment of a coolant intrusion. This issue, if left unaddressed, will cause the engine to run improperly, the spark plugs to become fouled, the engine to overheat, etc. I took the vehicle to a local certified mechanic. Although after looking at Ford's service bulletin, it became apparent that the vehicle is experiencing a similar issue to other 2017 models that were included in the recall. The mechanic listened to what we said and pulled up supporting documentation in the form of a Technical Service Bulletin. The check engine light just came up, within the past couple of days, well after the coolant intrusion was started. The disrepair seems to be a matter of timing. The subject has been driven quickly and cautiously.

Jul 22, 2025

What malfunctioned- Car did not give any notice that it was in engine failure for months other than under performing and upon taking it to the ford dealership was never helped with the problem they took money for an oil change and works package but failed to make sure my car was safe. My car was a safety hazard bc it gave zero warning that it was loosing power and when the engine did fail I knew something had been wrong for almost a year and felt it went ignored by Ford and was taken advantage of. The product has been confirmed by multiple mechanics that what causes it is the hose cracks and thus the engine coolant wrecks a working engine. Ford knows it’s a problem but isn’t acknowledging it and makes more money off of parts.

Jul 10, 2025

Manufactured dates for the 2.7L engine put only into the trim model Ford Fusion Sport (a rare trim) during 06/16 - 01/17 have been documented to have cylinder head issues resulting in long block issues. (Meaning a whole new engine is needed) the only way you got this issue fixed is if it was done in the first 3 years of 2017 or within 39k miles. But for those that didn’t get their vehicles in during that time frame are supposed to pay out of pocket for a defect ford knew to exist and have no issued a recall on these vehicles.

Jul 2, 2025

I purchased my 2017 Ford Fusion Titanium brand new with only 5 miles, from a dealership in Ky. My car recently started idling rough when I started it up. I took my car to a mechanic, after the check engine light came on. The code read misfire on cylinder 3, they replaced spark plugs and coils for $600, but only a few days later the check engine light came back on, still rough idling. I take my car to a 2nd mechanic $200, to find out that there is a “coolant intrusion” in the cylinders, indicating I would need a new engine. In disbelief, I take my car to a 3rd mechanic, $100. I have records from two different mechanic shops showing that there is a coolant intrusion in the engine, which is a "manufacturer defect". I called Ford's Corporate Office for help and apparently my VIN was not a part of any recall, although there are many recalls for the same issue, in the same year and model! There’s a recall on the car engine itself (per 3rd mechanic). Ford told me they couldn’t do anything about their manufacturer issue. Research initiated by the mechanic indicated that Ford Fusion cars with the same make and model, along with many other Ford models in the same year of 2017-2019 had the same issue of coolant intrusion into the cylinders and have been recalled. There are also active lawsuits over the same issue. It’s honestly unbelievable and disheartening that my car is not a part of the recall when it’s doing the exact SAME thing as others with the same year and model, which have already been recalled. I cannot afford to put a new engine in my car. It should have lasted a lot longer, and would have, if it weren't for a Ford manufacturer issue. I have all the documentation as needed, which states that I need a new engine and that the engine itself has already been recalled (however, the VIN shows no recall for the car). I will also be reporting this issue to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Thank you for your time on this matter.

While driving the car, the engine indicator kept blinking then the car kept shaking. The Ford Service did inspection and found that there has been a coolant leak to Engine Oil which caused Engine Failure due to cylinder break.

Jun 19, 2025

Engine is losing coolant into the cylinders which causes car to overheat. When this happens car shakes and runs rough. When this occurs while driving down the road, thick white smoke comes from the exhaust blinding the cars behind us. If car dies, you lose power steering and brakes become very difficult to push. We had a repair shop check it out and coolant is leaking on top of the piston and exiting through the exhaust. The engine light comes on just before car begins to act up. According to our mechanic, it appears the engine block has a design flaw and Ford has issued a Technical Service Bulletin explaining the problem. Attached a picture of when it just begins to smoke. After a few seconds it fills the entire shop.

Coolant leak in the 3# cylinder mechanic said I need a new engine

Jun 12, 2025

Check engine light came on at around 80,000 miles after 30 min drive. Next day would not start. Jumped it and drove to autozone. Autozones check engine reader stated spark plugs. Drove it to local ford dealership where test came back the third cylinder misfiring because coolant is low and leaking into the engine. Quick google search states many 2013-2018 fusions have a recall for this issue however my specific vin is not included. Dealership never mentioned other fusions being recalled for this. Could have started an engine fire or lost control.

Noticed difficulty starting the vehicle and smoke coming out of the exhaust and the check engine light came on with code PO302. Found this was associated with coolant leaking into the engine which caused the coolant level to decrease and had to add coolant to prevent the car from over heating. These leaking fluids could have leaked onto exhaust parts causing the smoke and possibly could have started a fire in the vehicle. I took the vehicle to Rodeo Ford in Goodyear Az. and they confirmed the code displayed and smoke coming from the exhaust and had to add more coolant right away. They confirmed coolant was leaking into the engine and checked for the recall and said my vehicle was not listed as part of the recall even though other 2017 Ford Fusions were part of the recall. They replaced the engine costing me $10,039.35 and said that the vehicle may be added later to the recall NHTSA Recall ID 17V209

Jun 8, 2025

My Fusion is a 2017 and in 2015 Ford reported a problem with the Eco-Boost engines. The issues is there is a flaw in the production of the engine that could cause a crack in the cylinder and allow coolant to enter the chamber and once that happens the engine fails. Ford did offer a customary recall for the engine, but it was limited on miles and time. I was never informed of the customary recall. My engine has a small crack that has leaked a small amount of coolant into the cylinder. The car still functions. My concern is that if the engine fails while it is being driven, that the engine will seize and the car will stop, and an accident could occur. Since I was sold a car with the defective engine, and it was not disclosed to me, I want ford to replace the engine, since my engine has the defect, before it becomes a safety hazard.

The temp gauge suddenly jumped up and alert said coolant was low. Driving on freeway, car shut down before I could get into a shoulder. Big rigs swerving around me, could have been killed. No leaks under car. Cap off the coolant reservoir and the coolant level bubbles up back to normal. After that, even driving one mile makes the temp gauge jump up and drop down erratically. We own a 2017 ford fusion with 72,000 miles and I took it to the dealer because the engine light came on, after a couple of days at the dealer they contacted me and said I needed a new engine due to the coolant intruding in one of the pistons , I did some research on line and found out that a lot of other people seem to have had the same issue with the 2.0 eco boost engine and found out that the engine block is defective from the manufacturer, I reached out to Ford customer service and they said they couldn’t help me with this issue since my warranty was expired , I ended up replacing the engine for a new one at a cost of over 8,300 dlls and I was told to keep my receipt in case of a recall on this issue . I didn’t want to buy another car since I I just had purchase a 2025 F-150 and i don’t want 2 car payments and my wife’s 2017 ford fusion is in an immaculate condition except for the engine failure .

I own a 2017 Ford Fusion with 49,300 miles. The engine light went on and the car was shaking and couldn't be driven over 40 miles per hour. I brought it to the dealer and they said that the coolant leaked into the engine and that I needed a new engine. I recently found out that these engines are defective, and Ford knowingly has been selling these cars.

Apr 1, 2025

My vehicle was just disagnosed with the coolant intrusion issue outlined in TSB 19-2346. I have owned this car for over 6 years and not once has anybody mentioned this well-known issue to me. I am disappointed I had to find out about it by experiencing it firsthand, and then going online and reading the stories of counless other drivers who have had the same issue. This engine design is clearly faulty and Ford has been aware of the issue with these engines since at least 2019. How can it be 2025 and a recall has not been initiated??? This is unacceptable. I am now stuck with a $10,000 repair bill for a new engine because the dealer repair tech warned me not to drive it any further without repair or else risk an engine fire or even an engine seizure which would likely cause an accident. Had I been aware of this inevitible issue sooner (due to a recall or any other manditory notice), I would have traded the car in long ago.

Engine overheats. Stalls while driving. Seizes up. Coolant intrusion

Mar 15, 2025

Defective head gasket or other parts led to coolant entering into the engine and causing the engine to sputter and seize. The car randomly started hiccupping while driving and would rock back and forth when trying to accelerate. The car would launch slowly from a start and made a right turn on red risky. The problem has been confirmed by a Ford dealer. The mechanic said this is a "known problem" with these engines. This problem/engine, however, is not covered under warranty. The vehicle was inspected by a Ford dealership. There was a check engine light 3 days prior with no symptoms. The code came back with a cylinder 2 misfire. I made an appointment for the closest day possible. After 2 days, the car was a bit shaky and the unusual vibration was noticeable. On the third day, there were issues with power delivery, the sputtering became audible, and the shaking was intense. I brought my car into the dealer immediately.

Ford 2017 - Coolant Intrusion - Mileage drove (116,700mi) Vehicle vibration during everyday start of the car. White smoke during every day start of engine. Engine check light is on. Took it to Ford dealer service, they confirmed its coolant intrusion and quoted 11k$ for long block replacement. I can’t afford for it. Worried that it would lead to severe risk like engine fire in near future. Requesting NHTSA to extend it as a mandatory recall for all affected Ford Vehicles.

1.5 Ecoboost engine leaks coolant into cylinder(s) causing misfire and engine overheating due to failed head gasket, cylinder head or crack in engine block. Ford TSB 21N12, 22-2322 and others address this exact issue. Ford failed to notify me of TSB, and the short time Ford allowed to replace engine has expired. Contact with Ford Corp resulted in no help with my car.

I have a 2017 Ford Fusion with 47,000 miles on it. There is no more warranty. I took my car in to get the recall fixed and I was told I need a new engine because the coolant was leaking into cylinder . I read online that there a numerous complaints about this. I should not at 47,000 have to pay for a new engine.

Feb 6, 2025

The engine light came on. Brought it to have it checked. They said it was a mechanical issue. Drive it from Connecticut to South Carolina. Light came back on and went to three different mechanics. Last one said the engines on this model are defective. Brought it to Ford they said I can put in a new engine for $9,600.00. It has engine coolant leaking into the engine. Spark plug has melted into the engine and can’t be removed. The car has 65,000 miles on it. The car should have a 200,000 mile life.

My son’s 2017 Ford Fusion didn’t hold its coolant. We took it to our mechanic to see what was going on. He diagnosed leaking coolant that has blown a head gasket and his car needs a new engine. We looked on the internet and found out that there is a recall on 2017 Fusions. We found out that this problem can cause fires in the car. Since this has been a problem in the past for Fusions We think this should be a recall concern since this has been a problem in the past with these vehicles. We do not want our son to perish in a vehicle that needs work that should be covered by a serious safety issue a FIRE .Please contact me at [XXX] . There is a recall on 2017 Ford Fusion's torque converter. I currently have a 2017 Ford Fusion. After inspection at a Ford service dealership, the "torque converter clutch internally failed filling the transmission filter with metal debris and starving the pump for fluid causing debris to go throughout the transmission." The problem with this, is that even though it's list as a recall for ,y specific car, the recall is not listed under my VIN number. This inspection was done on December 17, 2024. The safety of myself and children were put at risk when my car hesitated to accelerate on multiple occurrences on busy roads and intersections. The problem has been reproduced by a Ford dealer and has also been inspected by a Ford service dealership. There were no warning lights on indicating that there was a problem.

The engine died and the car shut off in the middle of trying to drive the car. All maintenance has been done on time, all recalls have been done but one (brake line hose) which was scheduled to be repaired. This is a major safety concern especially since no indication lights were displayed prior to the issue.

The engine on this vehicle needs to be replaced due to coolant intrusion into the cylinders. On my engine diagnosis I get Error Code #P0302 which indicates Cylinder 2 misfire detected. My vehicle overheats quickly, runs rough and the coolant reservoir is dry. The vehicle's exhaust blows out a lot of white-ish smoke with a sickening odor. I took my vehicle to my local Auto Nation Ford of Bellevue, WA service department. They told me it is what they have seen on a lot of Ford Eco-Boost engines and there was a recall on these for engine replacement but my 2017 vehicle falls out of the recall. They told me I need a new engine replaced in this vehicle to the cost of about $10,000. Auto Nation Ford Bellevue, WA's service department referenced service bulletin #22-2229 (Some 2015-2018 Edge and 2017-2019 Fusion/MKZ/Escape/MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L EcoBoost engine may exhibit a low coolant level, white exhaust smoke and/or a runs rough condition with or without an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL). Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) may include P0300, P0301-P0304, P0316, P0217, P1285 and/or P1299 stored in powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to coolant intrusion into the cylinder. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to replace the long block engine assembly.). There were no warnings or dashboard lights except when my coolant gauge rose suddenly while driving on the road. I have dutifully maintained my vehicle with regular checkups so I don't believe I am at fault for this problem. I believe the Ford Motor Company should have informed me of this chronic problem but they didn't. I also believe my 2017 Fusion should be repaired with the cost going to the Ford Motor Company for a known defect. What do I do now please?

The redesigned head gasket began to leak coolant into cylinder three causing a misfire and overheating of the engine. She stated the check engine light and the temp light both illuminated. My wife was left on the side of the road until the car could cool down to avoid further damage of fire. The initial indication was only a misfire on 3. I plan on getting a quote for the Ford recommended fix which is replacement of the engine with a new long block. This is a widespread and well known issue that has unfortunately now affected me. The car is available for inspection until I can figure out how to replace the motor with the updated and redesigned long block.

Component: Coolant leaking into motor. It is available for inspection upon request. This is the second motor ford has put in my vehicle with same issue. Both times the vehicle broke down in transit causing us to be a hazard to surrounding traffic and leaving us on the side of the road. Problem has happened in to motors in same vehicle. Both motor malfunctions verified by service centers. First motor was replaced at no cost to us by Ford Motor Company (FMC). They indicated they knew there was an issue with the motor and replaced it; however it took us 4 calls to FMC to get this acknowledgement and assistance. The first three times we called we were told that there was no known issue and it was our problem. Now that the replacement motor is doing the same thing, approximately 2 years/ 50,000 miles later we are in the same situation. Current calls to FMC indicate it is our problem even though the replacement motor is under warranty.  Problem has been inspected by Ford dealership service center in addition to a private certified service center, AAA Auto Group. Check engine light appeared both times at the time of breakdown, not any period of time before. All of our documentation is sitting with the vehicle at a Ford dealership at the moment. If this is an issue we can continue wiht NHTSA we will get the service records uploaded ASAP.

I took my car into the shop because we had a check engine light on and it showed a P0316 code which is a cylinder one misfire. upon inspection and replacement of my spark plugs, there was coolant that was getting into the cylinders and all over the spark plugs. I spoke to the mechanic the mechanic said that this is a known problem for the 2.0 turbo motors for the Ford fusions. I was advised to contact my local Ford dealership and see if there was anything that they can do for a TSB and I contacted Ford Motor Company directly and they are not going to provide financial assistance even though it’s a known problem and is covered for other vin numbers. I have a case number which is CXH02950291. the TSB number is 22–2229 for the long block replacement. That is the only fix for this motor and it is due to a defect in the long block being cracked. I have 4 children and 2 with special needs. I cannot afford an $8-10k cost for a motor replacement. We purchased this vehicle about 5 years ago and the vehicle has roughly 96k miles on it. This is insane. I need help.

While driving on the highway at 60MPH, the check engine light came on first, then got an overheating issue. Let car cool, then drove city streets and took car to an independent auto repair shop. They read the engine and it had error code P0304. Shop bore scoped into cylinder 4 and found engine coolant. Took to dealer to confirm, they did find that engine coolant was leaking into cylinder 4 and recommended replacing engine long block assembly for $9.25k.

My vehicle 2017 Ford Fusion has a chronic condition. The coolant comes into the engine and causes an engine misfire, which is a very serious problem. The 21n12 customer satisfaction program has already come out, but I bought this car secondhand and it's already out of all conditions. I'm wondering why this issue is not a recall. Many owners of the same car are complaining of the problem and this is a serious life-threatening defect. I think you should include this in the recall right away.

My car has been misfiring on the 4th cylinder for since the end of 2023. The first time, I was told that I needed a tune up, I did that. Months later another misfire, said I needed to change the ignition coil, did that. Then I was out of town and it misfired again. My spark plug was changed and I was able to return home. This last time [XXX], it showed another cylinder and crankshaft. I took to dealership and was initially told that I needed a tune up and had swollen lug nuts. Advised I had a tune up at 37,000 miles and car only has approximately 48,000 miles. I then requested car be tested for coolant intrusion. The test was done and a cylinders scoped and was told Yes, that is the case. Now Ford wants me to pay $9,000+ for engine replacement. They state that my VIN is not included in the Customer Satisfaction Program. But this is a known fact to them and are not willing to absorb any of the cost. There is a program for the 1.5 but was told there is no program for 2.0 liter engine which I do not understand if it is the same engine defect. There was coolant intrusion into my engine which caused the engine to start seizing and misfiring and it also rusted a spark plug into cylinder #4. From my research this seems to be a known and common issue with EcoBoost Ford Fusions (I have a 2017 Ford Fusion 1.5L EcoBoost). This issue apparently can also cause fires and I'm lucky that it didn't happen to me. The Peacock Ford Service Center in Maitland, Florida confirmed to me that this is a known issue. The engine has been inspected by a Firestone as well as the Ford Service Center that i previously mentioned. The only symptom of the failure was the check engine light coming on but the only reason it came on was because the engine started misfiring.

My car developed a miss in the engine that continued to get worse. It was inspected at the dealership, Key Scales Ford, in Leesburg, Florida. The check engine light was on and the car showed a code of PO303, misfire in #3 cylinder. It was determined that there was a crack in the block and coolant was entering #3 cylinder. The approximate costs to replace the engine were over $10,000 and the car had a trade-in value of approximately $9,000 so repair out of my pocket was not a smart option. Through research of my own I learned of NHTSA action which had led to a Ford Technical Service Bulletin TSB 21-2134. I contacted the Ford Customer Satisfaction Program and was told my VIN was not included under the TSB, even though it had the exact same problem. Ford refused to participate in any type of resolution despite this being a well-known problem with the 1.5-liter Ecoboost engines. This type of engine failure could lead to being stranded at any time so driving the car further was not a good idea. There was 55,912 miles on this car and the original brake pads outlived the engine. These engines are known to be defective and a problem.

My 2017 Ford Fusion started with a grumble, saw white smoke exhaust. Drove about 6 miles turned off car, restarted the car and the engine light came on. Brought the car a week later to Dons Ford, they diagnosed a coil issue caused the engine light being on. Roughly a $700.00 repair. Few days later engine light came back on. Took it back to the dealer, they said they probably didn't reset the computer, so the computer thinks it still has a problem. They checked and rechecked my issue. This car has been a gem, 69,000 miles. Bought the car because I buy American made, my son worked in Detroit for Ford. Engine light came back on about 5 days later. Diagnoses, you need a new engine. $9,000. They say my car can catch on fire, but the dealer said I can drive it. There is more I could say but that's for a different agency.

MY 2017 Ford FUSION 2.0 Eco COULD HAVE CAUGHT ON FIRE WITH MY 6 YEAR OLD INSIDE!! I went to start my car & it didn’t want to turn over. Turned car off. Tried again. Started up but sputtered manically..then “kind of” settled down. I was maybe 2 miles down the road && COOLANT TEMP HIGH light turned on. I pulled over immediately turned car off. Checked coolant levels….it was BELOW minimum (NO VISIBLE LEAKS) replaced coolant, car started smoother. 2 days later. I started my car it was a little rough && as I began driving I could see what looked like white smoke coming from exhaust. I looked for a safe place to quickly pull over and the COOLANT TEMP HIGH light dinged on again. I checked levels…again BELOW minimum..this is 2 days AFTER I refilled the coolant….once again there are no visible leaks on the ground. It is the weekend so have NOT made it to dealership. Myself & my 6 year old daughter were in the car && THE ENGINE COULD HAVE BLOWN or caught fire!! This is absolutely unacceptable && unsafe. This is unsafe to the people around me && on the road due to the smoke of the car, possible flames, && sudden STOP. This is BEYOND dangerous. I’m positive after researching that this is coolant intrusion in the engine. I was never informed of this possible issue by Ford. I am a single mother, with one vehicle, this should not be MY BILL especially since I’ve maintained the maintenance on this vehicle regularly. I will be taking my Fusion to the Ford Dealership Monday where I hope Ford will cover this issue. (( I can update later if needed ))

Sep 19, 2024

I had the car about 3 months when the first service light appeared. Misfire - replaced the cylinder. But 2 months later service light came on again for same issue. Ford Dealership said it was coolant intrusion. Car repeatedly overheats. Service engine light comes on/stays on. Temperature gauge will indicate high temp, then will drop to normal seconds later, then shoot to the top again. At times engine will decrease power, and I have to pull over and park until engine cools, no matter where it happens. I don't feel safe driving on the highway, or any distance more than 20 miles or so. I am also afraid to park in the garage at night in case it's too hot. Ford dealership says it needs a new engine. Called Ford Customer Service but my VIN was not on the service action 19B37 or 21N12 (even though it was manufactured at a listed plant on the listed dates) so they would not assist in covering it.

The vehicle experienced engine failure due to engine coolant intruding into the cylinders. This was formally diagnosed by a Ford Dealership service team after the vehicle broke down on the side of the highway. This is the exact issue outlined in TSB #22-2229. The check engine light was activated indicating there was an issue. I filled up the coolant basin with a gallon of the manufacturer recommended coolant, and within 6 days, all the coolant was gone and the engine shut down when I was driving at approximately 50mph. Ford Corporate will not lend any financial assistance for the repairs, which is a complete engine replacement. This replacement costs between $7,000-$10,000.

Sep 16, 2024

My car is experiencing the issue noted in Technical Service Bulletin 22-2229 (09-June-2022). My car leaks engine coolant into the engine/cylinders causing an excessive draining of coolant, overheating the engine, and shutting off the car. Specifically, my engine overheated and shut off, making the car undriveable. I was forced off the road on a single lane highway with speed limits of 55mph. This occurred at [XXX] on Friday, [XXX]. The area where the care came to rest was not particularly safe due to the narrow roads and high speed limit. The check engine light came on when this issue became a problem. My car was inspected by Bull Valley Ford in Woodstock, IL. They diagnosed that the issue is indeed the same issue in TSB 22-2229. The quoted price to repair is $7,000.00. Coolant was leaking into the Engine. This is a known issue with this make and model of the Ford Fusion, yet not all the engines were recalled. Ford told us this was a known issue, but we received no notification of this being a potential issue. We have taken our vehicle to Ford since we bought it new in 2017, and nothing was ever said. Now that the engine has the issue that is part of the recall, Ford would not take any responsibility for it and refused to help pay for the repairs. If the engine is doing exactly what the recall was for, then Ford should be held responsible for the repairs.

Following that, a few days later, my car overheated on the way to my work. I checked the coolant which was low and added more. There had been no signs of leaking under the car at any time. I was able to drive the car home but by the time I got home the coolant was again very low. I had it towed to a Ford dealership where I was given the catastrophic news that it was due to coolant intrusion and I need a whole new engine that will cost 9,000.00 after folloeing the TSB. I have approximately 60,000 miles on it and Ford has refused to help in any way. I have had the oil changed as recommended since I bought the car used from a Ford dealership as certified pre-owned with approximately 14,000 on it and was never made aware of any coolant intrusion problems. Researching this issue, I find that this is a common and very serious problem. If the engine were to overheat it could cause loss of power and more concerning, an engine fire. If the engine caught fire I worry if I could get 2 toddlers out of their car seats in the back in time. This is a serious safety issue. If I lost power on the freeway due to overheating would we be rear ended endangering all of our lives? Ford has acknowledged this engine has a design flaw and have recalled the 1.5L engines and certain other 2.0 for the exact problem. This sets a precedent, and all these engines with this problem should be recalled and the engine replaced. The symptoms and end result are all the same. My car is still sitting at the dealership since I do not have any way to come up with 9,000. Nor can I drive it.

2017 Ford Fusion Titanium 2.0L Ecoboost purchased brand new. Coolant intrusion into Cylinder #1, causing a misfire, registered in Vehicle Health Alert system; check engine light on. Liberty Ford dealership was notified within the first week of the 1st misfire. Autozone found fault code P0301. Code scanner suggested replacing cylinder #1 spark plug. If misfire cont., it stated to replace Coil on cyl #1. All four spark plugs were replaced and Coil for cylinder #1 was replaced. Veh.began to exhibit a low coolant level, white exhaust smoke & rough running. Coolant fumes were entering the veh. cabin. Coolant added as soon as "Engine Coolant Over Temperature" dash alert. Diagnostic completed at Firestone Complete Auto Care: Determined "Cyl 1 is full of coolant & misfire occurring due to engine burning coolant.TSB out for this issue stating engine block replacement will be needed. Recommend dealership*** Manufacturer's recommended maintenance.… They provided a copy of TSB 22-2229 and stated Ford Manufacturer should replace entire engine (Long Block). I contacted Ford Manufacturer. They stated several times that "this is a KNOWN ISSUE". They stated a diagnostic must be done by a Ford Dealership and submit financial asst. request. They found code P0301 as well as overheating codes are present, coolant level low. Mode 6 shows multiple misfires on cyl1...found same diagnosis. TSB 22-2229 covers this condition, engine build code is 910 and meets criteria." Veh avail for inspection upon request? The veh stranded me away from home 2-4 times. I was given literature that stated low coolant may automatically shut off the engine, even while driving. Antifreeze contains glycols & other liquid chemicals that are sweet smelling but POISONOUS. That entering the veh cabin can possibly cause a person to have damage to the central nervous system, lose consciousness, become nauseated, vomit, dizzy, etc. Ford didn’t notify me of the manufacturer fault that caused the issue, a 3rd party did.

Vehicle was sputtering while idle or in park. Engine light came on and when tested the diagnostic said “cylinder 2 misfire” Noticed coolant level would decrease quite drastically in short matter of time, also causing vehicle to run hot or begin to over heat. It’s not always possible (or safe) to pull over on the side of a busy freeway or wherever you are driving when this happens. After investigating, found that coolant was leaking into the cylinders. Being that this was a common issue in these specific eco boost engines I knew my engine block would need to be replaced. Car was at 40,000 miles when this started happening and still under warranty. Took car to the dealership explained the issue only for them to try to say there was nothing wrong with it after not even getting down into the engine. After much back and fourth they finally ordered a new engine block to replace the faulted original. Only took 6 months of the dealership having my car and dodging my calls and messages.

Took to dealer for diagnostic and was told engine rebuild/replace is needed and was quoted cost of $7465. My car is just over 91k miles and my extended warranty expired in March of this year.

There is a coolant intrusion into the vehicle’s engine, which has in turn created the need for a new engine entirely. This issue is known in 2017 Ford Fusions and vehicles have been recalled but only those made in certain manufacturing areas. The car is currently at the ford dealer for service and the dealership informed us this is a known issue and the engines have been recalled previously. After our own research it is clearly a known issue and should be recalled across the board. This vehicle is under 100,000 miles and inoperable, due to a manufacturer error. This needs to be made right and be an active recall for the 2017 ford fusion. There was no warning. I was driving one day at about 50 mph when the car lost all power to the engine and immediately slowed down on me. There is nothing safe about this and I would expect a company such as Ford, to make this right.

Aug 21, 2024

The coolant leaked into the engine. The dealership said it needs a new engine. I had no problems with the car until all of a sudden the overheat light came on. Regular maintenance has been done. The car is in great condition. Less than 72,000 miles.

I drove through a strip mall shopping center on 8/13/2024, without warning, my 2017 Ford Fusion's engine shut down and I could not re-start the engine. There was no "Check Engine" light. The shutdown later proved to be caused by the failed Mas Air Flow (MAF) sensor, Ford Part #Part #: AFLS195 (8V2Z12B579A). My understanding is that the MAF sensor sends data to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to deliver the specific amount of fuel that’s proportional to the airflow and without that information, the engine just stops. I read, the MAF sensor failure shutdown occurs in vehicles of many makes. I was in a shopping center when the engine shut down, leaving me stranded in the traffic, but minutes before I was in 45 MPH speed limit traffic on a main multi-lane thoroughfare. Had the engine shut down had occurred then. I may have been in a dangerous situation. In fact, an Auto Zone general information article on MAF failure stated, "These issues can create dangerous situations causing accidents and injury." There needs to be a fail safe that, when the sensor fails, like for example that causes the PCM to default value that does not cause a shutdown while activating the "check engine light."

Engine ran rough on startup. Coolant temperatures increased causing the car to reduce power while driving on the freeway at 60MPH. Refilled coolant as the levels were low. The check engine light appeared on the instrument panel. The code was a P0301 which is a cylinder #1 misfire. Replaced all spark plugs and ignition coil for cylinder #1. The vehicle was taken to an independent service center where a diagnostic test was performed. The diagnostic showed coolant intrusion into engine cylinder #1 which resulted in engine failure. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.

while trying to pass another car, my car stalled and would not speed up, then the high temp light came on then it cut off. it has been diagnosed with coolant intrusion by Kirk Brothers which is where I bought it.I can't understand why ford will not do something about this. I guess someone will have to get killed before something gets done. I can't afford to get the car fixed and it's my only vehicle. I commute 40 miles every day to work and have no other option than to drive this unsafe car. I'm scared for my life but if I don't go to work, I cant provide for my family or pay for this car. my car has all the criteria i see on the ford's customer satisfaction page, why is it not on recall. And it was made at the Hermosillo, Mexico plant which has a recall but not on my car.. i don't understand why.

My engine started to act up so I took it to the dealership. I was told that there was coolant intrusion in the cylinder head due to manufacturer known defect and that my vehicle was unsafe to drive and that the recall for this issue was expired. I was told my vehicle was unsafe to drive as it could hydrolock and cause an accident. This is a frightening issue that should not have a time limit given the fact that it can cause the engine to suddenly lock up which could cause a serious even fatal accident. This issue was confirmed by the dealer technician. There were no warning lamps untill the failure.

My car is a 2017 Ford Fusion with a 1.5 liter eco boost engine. 2 weeks ago my check engine light came on. I brought my car and there was apparently a coolant leak that caused my entire engine to cease and I was told by ford my entire engine needs to be replaced for over 8500 dollars. My car is under 67000 miles. The coolant problem was stated to me as something that is seen by a lot of these engines. I did research to find out that this has been a common occurrence with fords carrying these types of engines. The coolant leak could lead to engine stopping in the middle of driving! I have a [XXX] son and a baby on the way. Knowing ford is still letting people drive these cars is unsafe and on top of that making people pay for something that is their fault. Because of this I am financially struggling and am so angry that this could have resulted in something much worse. There is even a class action law suit relating to this happenings against ford and this coolant leak problem. I reached out to ford support and they have stated they are aware this is an issue, but nothing has been recalled yet. So now I am forced to pay for a new engine! Ford is at fault and i am now paying thousands of dollars I do not have. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I took our 2017 Ford Fusion in a couple of weeks ago for a service code showing we had a misfire on #2. We had the repair completed which included new plugs and coils. This past week, the car showed an alert that said the car was overheating. I drove it to the service center and the car gave me an alert that the computer had reduced power to lower the temp of the engine. The mechanic just called me and said that we have coolant in the cylinder. They said this is a known problem and that it is listed under TSB 22-2229 which superseded TSB 22-2133. I have called Ford and Ford dealerships and they sent me to this site to file a complaint. Their answer was that they couldn't fix it until the NHTSA told them to fix it--even though they stated they have seen a lot of these issues.

While driving my Ford Fusion to the Local Ford Dealer (Monday 7.1.2024) for the scheduled Oil change the check engine light came on. I informed the Service writer at the dealership upon arrival. He stated they can complete the oil change but, could not check that problem with the engine light coming on due to the fact you have to make an appointment to have the car serviced. At that time I did make an appointment for that service to have my car inspected for the following Monday (7.8.2024). on my way home the car started to run rough, like it was not running on all cylinders. On Friday 7.5.2024 I contacted an independent service mechanic took my car to an independent service mechanic. He ran a diagnostic test. he determined that coolant was leaking into cylinder #2, he stated it was due to either a broken head gasket or a crack block. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, by a tow truck on the same day. On Monday the Ford dealer diagnosed that coolant was leaking into cylinder #2, and it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The car has 119,000 miles. It is out of warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The Service writer informed me that this is a common problem with the 1.5 Eco boost engine. He also stated that this has been a problem since 2014 engines. The Service writer referred me to the Ford Customer Service Department. I contacted the customer Service Department. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The Representative informed me that because the car is out of warranty, they would not do anything to help with replacing the engine.

I was driving the car and it started to overheat so I pulled over. I then drove the car to my home and it had a miss in the engine along with white smoke coming out of the exhaust. After getting home I checked the coolant and it was low so i filled it up and as the car sat there idling you could see the coolant disappear and the white smoke and rough idle. I could not see where the coolant leaked out on the ground. I also had to have the transmission replace at the dealership I bought it from due to transmission complete failure. Time to recall this make and model. 1. Engine, Transmission failure 2. Sitting along the highway in the middle of no where.. a woman, you can guess, not safe!! 3.Yes Transmission replaced by dealership and Engine confirmed by service center to have coolant in cylinders. 4. No warning lights at all for either. Only temp gage for overheating.

The check engine light began coming on. I took it to the mechanic to determine what may be going on, but he could not find anything. The check engine light continued to come on. Took it back in for deep-dive diagnostics. Service Charging System came on - randomly and intermittently - took it to two different mechanics. At this time problem was intermittent and not consistent. Three mechanics attempted to dive deep into the situation but could not find it. They ruled out the alternator and other issues they suspected. The coolant and Temperature lamps came on once. I immediately stopped driving and checked the coolant. Then, I had mechanics check the coolant and make sure all was good. I took it to another mechanic, and he said it was now throwing all kinds of codes. Took vehicle to local Ford dealership where I was told I needed a new motor and it was not covered by Ford. The cost would be over $13,000. Upon my own investigation, I found that this is a common and recurring problem with this motor. This vehicle has 94k miles on it. In 2022, we purchased it with 78k miles on it for my son to go to college in. Now, I am being told by Ford that the motor will cost more than the car actually did.

Engine light came on while driving on the highway with no other warnings or symptoms that could be noticed during standard operation. Vehicle was taken in to Ford for service the next day and it was discovered that coolant was leaking into cylinder #1 due to the design of the engine long block. Coolant intrusion into the cylinder was causing the cylinder to misfire, as well as engine overheating. If I had not taken the vehicle in for service immediately, overheating would have continued, leading to engine failure while actively driving. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE BY FORD AFFECTING SOME OF THEIR 2.0L ECO BOOST ENGINES. Ford issued a technical service bulletin (TSB 19-2346) for its technicians on how to diagnose and fix this defect in December 19th of 2019. Ford service told me the repair would not be covered in any extended coverage or powertrain coverage from the factory.

The vehicle has started going through coolant and the exhaust has a sweet smell. It has the 1.5 litre ecoboost that has an active recall. I believe this is the issue. We still owe more than its worth and cannot afford to have a known recall issue cost us our transportation. It is only a matter of time before it destroys itself. I previously owned a 2014 fusion 2.0 that blew the motor due to the same issue. I had to put a new motor in that car. Coolant intrusion into cylinder 2 cause misfires and lead to failure 2.0L fusion platinum with 90,0000 miles Noticed low coolant level, sloshing novices behind the dash). Machine said the did hear any, I was quite loud for 6 months. Always on excel and sometimes waterfall sounds at stops. Flushed and replaced coolant. Pressure tested 40 min. Sloshing noises started 3 days later. Level Dropped again and caused a missfire. All plugs replaced. Pressure test overnight, no leaks or coolant drop per dealer. Sent home with a nice bill and statement saying nothing is wrong. Rep gets frustrated why I keep asking why and were is the coolant going. Recommended I buy an extended warranty plan. 3rd time same misfire. Called and told me there is coolant in the cylinder and is $9,500 to replace. I wish the customer could she the photos from the scopes. It’s just hard to trust people The cars not worth that going to another dealer to trade in 🙏🏻

I recently experienced a problem with my 2017 Ford Fusion. The check engine light came on and the car was riding rough. I took it to a local mechanic and he determined that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. He replaced them and did a tune up and the car seemed fine. Two days later the check engine light came on again and the car started riding rough again. I took it back to the same place and he said one of the spark plugs blew again. He did some more research and found a TSB regarding my issue. Their is a known design flaw in these cars that were manufactured between 2017-2019 that allows coolant to leak into the engine. I made an appointment with a Ford dealer to confirm and I was told that my engine would need to be replaced. At this point, when I started the card, white smoke started billowing out of the exhaust and the coolant light illuminated. I have no choice but to replace the engine at my own expense since my warranty has expired. I did extensive research on this and found cases where people's cars have caught on fire. There are also reports of the car shutting down while on highways. Ford is aware that this is a design flaw but has not issued a recall. Thank you.

2017 ford fusion se with roughly 70,000 miles blew its engine in route to Wisconsin from Illinois. Less than 1.5 hrs into the drive, highway, steady speed, sudden drop in speed and white smoke out the back. Immediately pulled off road and happened to be within minutes from a Ford dealership so I dropped it there. Today, [XXX] they advised that the engine rebuild + new turbo would be a 12,000 repair. The car itself is worth about $10-12k in good condition. This car has had no major issues and has been regularly maintained at a ford dealership. Regular oil changes and any repairs were done with Ford! Now, the 3rd cylinder has heavy scoring which is causing pressure issues and oil blowing out the dipstick. 2017 Ford Fusion engine failed while driving in heavy traffic on I10 due to low coolant level/high engine temperature as described in campaign 22-2229 (vehicles equipped with a 2.0L EcoBoost engine may exhibit a low coolant level, white exhaust smoke and/or a runs rough condition with or without an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL)). Replaced engine assembly (62,897 miles) at the direction of Ford Dealer.

White smoke started to come out the tailpipe. Check engine light came on a day later. Had codes run, misfire cylinder 4. Changed the spark plugs. Cleared up for a couple of days. Came on again when car struggled to start. Noticed coolant was low after engine temperature warning came on. Pulled over immediately. Checked the coolant and oil for cross contamination. Had my car towed to a shop to look at. Found out it had a blown head gasket causing coolant to leak. Have had the car a couple of years and love it. Was made aware of potential coolant intrusion issue (that is known in fusions and escapes) months after I bought it. The repair from ford will be, replace the short block and head gasket, which will cost me several thousand dollars. Car is at 135k miles.

My vehicle is exhibiting the same defects that are included in the NHTSA customer satisfaction program 21N12 regarding a coolant intrusion. When hooked up to a scanner it reports DTCs P0300 and P0301-P0303. Is my understanding that this is a safety concern as it could cause the engine to fail and a fire to erupt. Unfortunately by the time this was brought to my attention as of today's date May 2nd 2024, My bed has not been recalled and it does not meet the stipulations of the customer satisfaction program as the current millage exceeds the 84,000 mi specified. I have noticed The coolant needing refilled several times over the years I have owned the vehicle. And this is the third time that I've had issues with misfirings, that required changing of spark plugs and ignition coils to correct. The frequency of the misfirings and some concerns that my mechanic had or what led me to research the issue, though now it seems it may be too late. I am concerned because it is a safety issue.

I am the only owner and driver of vehicle with just under 70,000 miles. The vehicle has regular service maintenance with original dealership purchased from and no leaks or major problems have been detected during any visit. On Saturday 4/13 after battery was replaced, the check engine light came on. Engine coolant temperature too high warning came on shortly thereafter. Upon arriving to destination and car sitting for 4 hours, both lights went off. No issues the next two days with very minimal driving. On Tuesday 4/16 car was driven about 30 minutes and had issue restarting after sitting for about an hour. Upon restart, both warning lights reappeared. When car began to sputter at 65mph highway speeds, a flashing coolant warning was coupled with audio warning. Hazard lights and light traffic allowed car to be safely driven back to street, but eventually vehicle lost all acceleration. It was then parked in open lot and towed to independent service center after hours. (Normal service provider estimated two week delay before for any diagnosis.) On the following day, initial diagnosis was extremely low coolant and need for tune up. No leaks were detected, no battery issues, coolant was topped off, and vehicle was deemed drivable. Thursday 4/18 the vehicle was brought back for recommended tune up and also an oil change. Technician noticed smell of coolant coming out of exhaust and coolant level was considerably lower than previous day. Final diagnosis is coolant leak into motor resulting in blown head gasket. At minimum, replacement of affected cylinder, water pump and hoses is recommended. Most common course of action is complete motor replacement.

Last week (today is April 16, 2024) I noticed when I start my car lots of smoke is coming out the back. Days later the engine light appears and starts flashing then my car starts to shake and stall as I’m driving putting me and others on the road at risk. Before I break it starts to stall so I try to break way ahead of time before needing to so I don’t put cars in front of me at risk. I’ve taken it to a mechanic and he’s telling me it seems to be a manufacturing issue with the engine. My 2L engine head gasket #2 cylinder on a 2017 Ford fusion seems to be the problem. This is very unfortunate as I have been in love with my car since I first purchased it brand new in the beginning of 2018. I have a service appointment with ford in two weeks

I have the 2.5 liter engine in my 2017 ford fusion but it’s also experiencing the same coolant leak symptoms of other engine models of this year of vehicle. Car has no visible leaks but coolant levels keep dropping. Temp gauge goes up and down back and forth. Car seems to be sputtering while driving. Currently just passed 100,000 miles this week. I’ve had the vehicle for 7 years and it seems like recall after recall.

While driving on the interstate car began to excessively shake and check engine light flashed for almost a minute then stopped. Was approaching exit to residence location and was able to get there. Once at home, car was then sluggish to start but no check engine light was on. Attempted to drive car in a safe area to see if it would repeat or light would come on. This was on a Sunday, therefore the dealership was closed. Light did come back on solidly and took car to dealership that next day, Monday. Was told coolant intrusion into the engine. After the incident and in doing research, appears to be a known issue in this vehicle.

Mar 22, 2024

The local Ford dealership has confirmed that the engine has an internal issue causing misfires in cylinder 3. It has recommended an expensive full engine replacement, approximately $10,000. Misfires shake the vehicle while driving, which may cause serious accidents and injuries.

2017 Ford Fusion. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there was an internal coolant leak to cylinder #2. The dealer stated that the engine block needed to be replaced. The check engine warning light was illuminated, turned off and a few days later came back on. Engine temperature was moderate at first and then sporadically moved between moderate and hot. Per NHTSA: Coolant Intrusion is a common problem amongst 2.0 EcoBoost Engine. Current Ford fix is replace engine block with a new design. Ford is aware of the design flaw in these cars and refuses to make things right with current owners.

A couple of weeks ago, heater would not work and a very cold day. We stopped after a while for gas and then the heat went on. This went on every time we used the car. So we got an appt at local Ford place last week, where we bought car. Took them several days but turns out the coolant is leaking into the engine and we need a new motor to the tune of 7000 bucks. The car never warned us of any malfunctions. It only has 58,000 miles on it but because it is a 2017 it is out of warrantee. I later learned that the EcoBoost cars have a lot of problems with leaking coolant into the motor. Especially the Ford Fusion and we have a 2 L EcoBoost car.

The car started shaking while driving down the road and when coming to a stop. The gears were not shifting properly. I took it to a mechanic shop and they told me several different things "could" be wrong, supposedly fixed it, $700 for that. Started shaking and shift gear problems again, took it in again and spent $2800 for the supposed fix. Several days later same thing, took it back again and they said to take it to a transmission shop because they couldn't do anymore. Found out there was a recall on the torque and the different mechanic "fixed" that. Now it won't shift into several of the gears. Over $4500.00 spent! Transmission

Engine light came on and heat and defrosters stopped working in vehicle. Took it into dealer and was told diagnostic code was for misfire in cylinder 3. They did a coolant leak test and immediately found coolant leaking into the engine. Was told this was a known issue with the 2.0L ecoboosts (TSB 22-2229 dated 6/9/22) and that I would need an entire engine block replacement. Due to being out of warranty I would be on the hook for $6,856 for the repairs. Car only had 45,000 miles on it at time of service.

I went to my dealership because of a check engine light. After many hours of searching, I was told that a coolant leak had been found. My 2017 Ford Fusion has a coolant issue. Per TSB 19-2139. Ford has a known issue in the cylinder walls and had a program available until November 2022. Sadly this program ended and they still have issues. It has been verified at a third party mechanic and Ford doesn't want to assist in this issue.

Jan 12, 2024

Hesitation, lack of power, jerking on acceleration. If felt like an ignition misfire and the engine codes suggested multiple misfires. A power balance test was performed and verified there is a misfire on cylinder 2. The spark plug from 2 was swapped with cylinder 1 and the misfire was in cylinder 1. The spark plugs were replaced November, 2023. The plugs look contaminated-seems to be with engine coolant due to a head gasket failure. The coolant reservoir was empty indicating a coolant leak. They then introduced air into cylinder 2 and the coolant rose inside the coolant reservoir. The gasket is failing between the cylinder and one or more of the water passages beside the cylinder. Ford has since updated their engine design to correct this concern so they knew of the issues. There is a current recall on the 1.5L engine however, not the 2.0L. There are multiple class action suits against Ford for this issue. A new engine is needed. This is a 2017 with 85K miles. A new engine should definitely not be required. When researching this issue, there are multiple safety concerns including engine fire. I spoke to Ford's customer service and they were no help whatsoever.

On [XXX], I entered onto [XXX] from Sparks, Nevada eastbound when a check engine light and oil overheat warning came on. I limped the car to the nearest exit [(XXX)]. I had my grandson with me and he was scared. I checked my coolant level and realized that it was dry. I put coolant to the max line of the reserve tank and drove 25 miles to Carson City. When I took it into the dealership at Capital Ford on December 26, 2023, their service manager said this year had a poor design of the engine (2.0L) which led to coolant intrusion into the cylinders. Two days later, they confirmed. My complaint is the FORD manufacturer knew of this issue and had posted several TSBs, but has only issued a recall the 1.5 L engine. I'm now told that since my car is 1600 miles out of warranty, too bad. I believe the FORD manufacturer should replace my engine for free, knowing it failed as a direct result of their poor engineering design. I purchased the car in July 2020 with 26,350 miles and bought the extended warranty. I was never made aware of the existing issues with the coolant leaking into the valves. 2017 Ford Fusion 2.0L ecoboost engine is available for inspection. The engine block was designed incorrectly and coolant leaks into the cylinder. There is a risk of fire from the intrusion of coolant in the cylinder. Many other people are having this issue and they did recall the 1.5L engine. They need to on the 2.0L as well. My local mechanic identified the issue and I called the Ford dealer who didn't even need to see it said I need a new engine based off the mechanic's testing. After losing coolant and constantly refilling with no coolant being seen coming from the vehicle, the check engine light comes on. The code listed states that one of the cylinders is misfiring. This is due to coolant in the cylinder. With the risk of fire, Ford needs to put a recall on this issue for the 2.0L ecoboost.

My 2017 ford fusion alerted to me that it was overheating, I immediately checked my fluids and noticed my coolant was empty so I refilled it. I assumed that when I recently had my car serviced they somehow forgot to refill my coolant when flushing/replacing me fluids. The next week I went to leave for work one morning and my car wouldn't start, had the battery checked and it was fine, replaced the started and still wouldn't crank. Then I had my fusion towed to a local mechanic who wasn't able to find the issue since they didn't do internal engine repairs, so paid that shop and had it towed to the dealership where I purchased the fusion and a couple of weeks later they tell me my pistons won't hold pressure and I need a new engine (8-10k) with no explanation as to what caused this. My fusion was purchased with 3 miles on it and currently has less than 49k on it. I have always taken very good care of my vehicle, but am now told that my warranty was 5 years from manufacturer date, not purchase date, leaving me with very little options. The shifter cable and bushing have been replaced twice. I received no warning on all instances. The shift continued to return to park and the car was disabled. I was left stranded away from home. The vehicle was towed to the nearest Ford Auto repair shop. On the second repair of the shifter cable, the cable had completely disintegrated. Ford informed me that the transmission was the problem. I was told that the transmission was spitting out fluid onto the cable. Ford informed me that it would be best to replace the transmission to solve the problem. I Can Not Afford This. There Needs To Be A Recall. This Is A Manufacture Defect.

Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding a critical issue with my 2017 Ford Fusion, equipped with a 2.0 L Ecoboost Turbo engine. The issue in question, namely coolant intrusion into the engine block, has been a well-documented problem recognized by the Ford Motor Company since at least 2010, as evidenced by Technical Service Bulletin 22-2229. My vehicle, a 2017 Ford Fusion, developed this issue when it had approximately 100,800 miles on the odometer. When I discovered the problem, I promptly contacted two different Ford dealerships for assistance, hoping that they would help address this known issue. However, I was met with significant resistance and a refusal to accept responsibility for the issue. Both dealerships cited the fact that my vehicle had exceeded 100,000 miles as the reason for their inability to assist me. I found this response deeply unsatisfactory and believe it is unfair given the longstanding awareness of the problem by the manufacturer. It is disheartening to learn that Ford Motor Company is unwilling to take responsibility for a problem that is clearly linked to a long-standing issue documented in their own technical service bulletins. This issue poses a significant safety and financial risk to Ford Fusion owners, and it is essential that the manufacturer acknowledges its responsibility in addressing and rectifying the problem, regardless of the mileage on the affected vehicles. I kindly request that the National Highway Transportation Board investigate this matter thoroughly and take appropriate action against Ford Motor Company for its refusal to address a known safety issue that has affected many Ford Fusion owners. Additionally, I urge the Board to advocate for the rights of consumers who are left without recourse due to arbitrary mileage limitations imposed by dealerships when dealing with such issues. I appreciate your attention to this matter. Sincerely [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Vehicle was being driven. Heard clunk noise. Vehicle no longer went into drive. Could not shift or anying. Had to have vehicle towed to repair shop. Ford could not review vehicle at time and was 30+ days out. Vehicle was then brought to another mechanic where they disassembled vehicle and found that the torque converter studs were no longer in place and created an issue where metal shards are in the transmission causing the transmission needing to be rebuilt along with shards being located in cooling system. Ford was contacted and advised to put a claim in with the NHTSA as this is a known issue for this vehicle year make and model however is not listed for this specific vin. There were no warning lights while driving the vehicle to indicate any issue. Vehicle currently not driveable. Our safety was put a risk as we were driving on the road during heavy traffic and caused a mess on the road and could have potential caused an action as vehicle was in drive when it stopped working.

I purchased a used 2017 Ford Fusion SE Ecoboost with 77790 miles on August 4, 2023. 2 days after purchase, the check engine light illuminated. I brought it into a local mechanic to run a diagnostic test. The diagnostic showed “misfire-cylinder 1”. The mechanic recommended replacing all spark plugs and the cylinder 1 coil pack. Repair was done and seemed to have been running well. 2 days later, the check engine light came back on. Brought it back into the same mechanic. The diagnostic showed “misfire in cylinder 2”. The mechanic recommended replacing the remaining coil packs but thought that the problem could possibly be a blown head gasket. I decided to replace the remaining coil packs in hopes that this would remedy the issue. 2 days after bringing the car home, check engine light came back on. I brought the car to a different mechanic for a second opinion. This mechanic diagnosed that “misfire in cylinder 2” was happening again. They mentioned that this ecoboost model is known for issues with carbon buildup. They used an intake cleaner to clean out the carbon and saw noticeable improvement. Later that afternoon, I came to pick up the car, and noticed that the cold start was much rougher than before. Once again, when driving home from the mechanic, the check engine light came on. Next day, took a short drive and a warning stating that the engine was overheating and coolant was low appeared. I filled the coolant and brought car to another mechanic. That’s when I was told that the engine needs replaced due to coolant leaking into cylinders. Still waiting to hear back from Ford to see if they will help with cost of repairs. Quoted $6300 to fix. This is my primary source of transportation and now I’m without a vehicle. This is also a hardship due to the fact that this vehicle was just purchased with no additional funds to pay for repairs. Please help!

Ford recall for customer satisfaction program 21N12 for coolant leaking into cylinder damaging short block does not provide enough coverage. 2017 ford fusion with 61,000 miles has an estimated of $7,800 to repair this mfg defect. The extended coverage on this fix on failure is 7 years and 84,000 miles. I have missed the window by 2 months! This problem has been occurring since 2014-2018 models. My car had a resale value of $15,000, but is now worth nothing and I only got 60,000 miles out of this. It is not fair that their known defect has put me in this position.

Ford Fusion 2017 SE 2.0L Engine with 100,000 Miles. Check Engine Light came on, and a warning that the engine was overheating. Within a few seconds, the car would return to normal. This process would repeat continuously every few moments. The car was taken to a Ford Dealership, and it was noted that there was a blockage & leak that would cost $8,000 to repair. I called Ford Corporate and they said that the recall applying to hundred of thousands of Ford Fusions for this same issue did not apply to my car. Ford recalled 2013-2014 Fusion Vehicles (1.6L engine) for this issue. Ford recalled 2013-2019 Fusion Vehicles (1.5 L / 2.0L Ecoboost engine) for this issue. Why are certain vehicles omitted from this dangerous recall though this is a documented issue with Ford Fusions?

FORD FUSION 2017 DANGEROUS DEFECT ENGINE ISSUES The Engine Light went on in my Ford 2017 Fusion car with only 64,000 miles and I became very nervous about my Family’s safety driving in my Ford 2017 Fusion car. The Ford Dealership was unable to take my car for two weeks, so I had no choice but to take it to an outside Mechanic to look at my car to see what was wrong because it was dangerous to drive the car and I could not wait two weeks. I missed work because I was unable to drive my car in this dangerous state with the Engine Light on. The outside Mechanic said the 3rd Cylinder misfired and then replaced the 4 spark plugs and coils to see if that helped and charged me $350.00 for his Service. Then a few days later the Engine Light went on again, so that Service did Not fix this dangerous problem & the Mechanic told me to go to Ford to fix this problem. When I looked on the NHTSA Website, there were “157 Complaints” on the same problems that I was experiencing with my Ford 2017 Fusion. These Complaints were expressing that their Ford 2017 Fusions had Faulty Head Gaskets causing coolant to leak into the pistons causing the cylinders to misfire and then their Engines needed to be replaced resulting in a flaw Cylinder Block causing an Engine Block. Many of them did not have their Engine Replaced because there is no Recall on these defective parts & they did not have the money to fix their Ford 2017 Fusion. I also do not have the money to fix my Ford 2017 Fusion with Ford’s defective parts causing dangerous safety Engine damage. These defective parts are high RISK causing Accidents, Fire and even Death which will be the fault of Ford Corporation for not Recalling these defective parts & fixing the damage these defective parts causes. I also found out that there was a Recall on the Ford 2013–2014 Fusions with the same problems. Now there should be a Recall on the 2017! HELP!

Engine was running rough, and had a check engine light. The code came up as P0302, which is a cylinder 2 misfire code. White smoke coming out of the exhaust. My mechanic confirmed that cylinder 2 had coolant leaking into the chamber and sent me a photo. I called both the dealership and Ford directly. Neither would help, as the car had 94,000 miles and an extended warranty was not purchased. Had this engine failed at speed, losing power could have increased the likelihood of an accident.

The component that failed is the engine. A coolant intrusion problem on cylinders causing coolant to access the combustion area. This is causing large amounts of white smoke to be emitted from tail pipe. Also there is a cylinder miss that shakes the vehicle while driving. This is very frightening by the driver. I am afraid of the day it breaks down on the side of the road, leaving me stranded and a hazard to other drivers. Vehicle was taken to the dealer only to find that the entire engine needs replacement due to a design flaw of the cylinder block. This is not a single incident issue, but rather a widespread issue in vehicles manufactured from 2015 to 2019. Vehicles listed is also for the 1.5 and 2.0 liter engine. It is stated in Ford's Customer Satisfaction Program 21N12. This is for the 1.5 liter engine. No program has been issued for the 2.0 liter which leaves many vehicles with potential engine failures still on the highway.

Ford Fusion 2.0 is currently at 71,000 miles and experiencing signs of coolant intrusion. Rough cold start with white smoke coming out of the exhaust. Check engine light illuminated showing a P0301 code (misfire in cylinder '1'). Still trying to research a reputable dealer/repair facility that can perform the repair without any hassle. The engine is drinking about 1/4 cup of coolant per day as of writing this. This is a well-documented issue plaguing the EcoBoost engines and is a very costly repair, let alone very dangerous if left to fester.

Engine coolant overheat message continues to pop up, car shakes and engine is HOT. Engine fire could occur, car could break down in an instant, putting my family's safety at risk. Ford previously recalled certain 2013 and 2014 Ford vehicles equipped with the 1.6L engine for a very similar issues under recall campaigns 12V551 and 17V209. However, no such recall exists for the similar issues reported by consumers with the 1.5L and 2.0L Ford Ecoboost engines. Please help me hold Ford accountable for safely recalling & fixing this vehicle!

This 2017 Ford Fusion is equipped with the 1.5L Ecoboost engine. This engine experienced a catastrophic engine failure due to coolant intrusion into cylinder #2. Check engine light comes on and flashes indicating it should not be driven. This was confirmed by factory service at Corwin Ford in Spokane WA. The vehicle has just over 80,000 miles. Dealer says this is a known issue where the engine block is machined so thin between the cylinder wall and the water jacket that the block cracks and coolant leaks into the cylinder. Ford knows about the issue and at one point issued "Customer Satisfaction Program 21N12" to address the issue. However the window of coverage is so narrow and notification to owners was not made. Ford knows about this issue and it is a safety concern. The potential for total loss of power while driving can result in an unsafe driving condition. The intrusion of coolant into the cylinder and potentially the oil system can pose a fire hazard. Ford should recall this engine and replace with a redesigned engine block.

I purchased a Ford “Reclaim” from a dealership that said the vehicle was in good working order and that Ford had fixed all prior issues and I was ensured by the dealer that Ford can not put an “unsafe” reclaim back out on the market. After starting to have issues with the vehicle myself (at approx 50k miles). I located the previous warranty claims on the vehicle. At 33k miles the previous owner had the short block engine repaired in 2020 due to coolant leaking into cylinder 3. In October of 2022 I took the 2017 Ford Fusion 1.5L into a independent shop with concerns that it was blowing white smoke out of the tailpipe. A chemical test was ran and “no indication of a blown head gasket”. I was advised to take it to the dealer. I did, they were unable to run diagnostic at that time but put a mark on the coolant reservoir. In May 2023 the car was still blowing white smoke from tailpipe on start up, I had lost approx 2” of coolant from reservoir and oil was reading overfilled but no milkiness. I took it back to dealer who did diagnostic and coolant was once again leaking into a cylinder; they said repair was possibly covered under a ford CSP program as long as I was under 84k miles. I was at 80150. They are replacing the short block (for the second time) under the CSP, however this should be an investigation or even a full recall as so many people have reported this issue and fords “all access” to this CSP only lasted 4 months, and now has a mileage cap. This 2017 Fusion has needed two engines block replacements in less than 84k miles. I am fortunate I did not sustain an accident or injuries due to engine failure.

Research on internet shows this is a widely reporting defect where coolant is leaking into the engine block. Fix is to install an entire new engine. Ford unwilling to admit defect due to extreme cost of having to replace engines. Cost of new engine installation is $7000 plus. Having a defective engine block that allows coolant to leak into the cylinders is a clear defect with multiple people having the same issue. I understand there was the same issue with another version of the Ecoboost engine on the fusion and a recall was done for that. A recall needs to be initiated for the 2.0L Ecoboost engine on the 2017 Fusions have the same serious coolant leaking into he engine block issue. Car being brought to Akins Ford in Winder GA for repairs on 03/31/23.

THE CAR WOULD NOT START DUE TO THE THROTTLEBODY FAILED TO OPERATE. LUCKILY, THE CAR WAS PARKED WHEN THIS OCCURED AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO NEAREST FORD DEALER. WHO INFORMED ME IF I HAD BEEN DRIVING AND IT HAD FAILED DURING OPERATION, CAR WOULD HAVE COME TO A DEAD STOP WHILE DRIVING AND/OR IN MY CASE FAILED TO START. THEY SAID THROTTLEBODY GIVES THE ENGINE THE AIR IT NEEDS TO PREFORM. WE WERE OUT OF TOWN AND DUE TO DRIVE ON A MAIN HIGHWAY FOR TWO HUNDRED MILES AT 70MILES PER HOUR! I HAVE INCLUDED INVOICES FROM THE FORD DEALER, INVOICE FROM AUTO DEALER- WHO HAD REPAIRS DONE ON CAR, AND THE CARFAX REPORT-THAT DID NOT SHOW ANY THROTTLEBODY RECALLS OR REPAIRS, NOR DID THE AUTO DEALER'S REPORT. THE CAR WAS CERTIFIED FOR 21,953 MILES BY THE STATE OF FLORIDA AND CARFAX. HOW IS THAT A CAR'S THROTTLEBODY WOULD FAIL AFTER 21,000 MILES, UNLESS IT WAS ALREADY DEFECTIVE IN THE BEGINNING!?? THE REPORTS INDICATE THE VEHICLE WAS A 1 OWNER CAR AND 21,953 MILES WITH PASSING THRU TWO SYSTEMS AND NEVER DETECTED. I HAD ONLY OWED THE CAR FOR 61 DAYS UNDER 24,000 MILES WHEN IT FAILED!

I had both a check engine light and wrench power train light come on. My vehicle was emitting white smoke from the exhaust and a sloshing water sound in my dash behind the steering wheel. My car has 96,000 miles on it and is serviced regularly. I had it at the dealership in Dec 2022 for an oil change and they didn’t indicate any issues. By Jan 2023 my car needs a new engine.

On July 21, 2022 I was driving my 2017 Ford Fusion I was driving on route 95 when my car started to over rev and began shaking, then I lost complete engine power. I nearly getting ran off the road from the cars behind me. Thank goodness I was in the right-hand lane when this incident happened. I had my 2017 Ford Fusion towed to Purvis Ford service center in Fredericksburg Virginia. The tech called me letting me know that my torque converter has failed and needs to be fixed. The cost was going to be $6,250 plus $200 diagnosis fee. I was made aware of the recall on the Fusions torque converter failure. I was told my Vin number isn't a part of the recall. I believe my car needs to be a part of this recall everything stated in the recall description my vehicle had done. What do I need to do to continue to get my vin number on this national recall.

2017 Ford Fusion with only 60k+ miles on it is having engine issues. Coolant leaks into the engine, resulting in a cylinder misfire which can cause an accident and significant engine damage—I now need a whole new engine. I am not the only Ford Fusion owner having this problem—numerous complaints have been made about this same issue. A recall should be issued as it is a defect caused by the manufacturer and the burden to repair or replace should not fall on the owner.

My 2017 Ford Fusion , with 58,228 miles on it has a bad engine, which is a known issue, yet not a recall. My engine overheated as I was driving on the expressway. I called Ford, case # CAS040244200, but my powertrain warranty expired 7/22 . Please read what has happened to others while their engine overheats while driving a 2017 Ford Fusion when coolant gets into the cylinder (in my case it's cylinder #3). Also Ford was aware of this issue...TSB# 19-2208, but has yet to place a recall

Engine coolant leaking into cylinder #3. Check engine light on and code says engine misfire. Coolant very low and if I had not caught it would have eventually blown up the engine possibility causing a catastrophic accident. After research and talking to the dealer this is a very common problem in the Ford EcoBoost 1.5 and 2.0 engines with as little as 10,000 miles! White smoke pours out of the exhaust on startup each morning with the smell of burnt coolant in the air.

Vehicle started making noises from the gas cap like vacuum noises. After refueling, car seem like it was having problems starting. After letting it sit for a couple minutes at the gas station, the car cranked but started putting like it wanted to turn off. Got to a red light and car suddenly turned off. Message shown on dash : Auto StartStop disabled. Manual Start Required. Car still wouldn’t crank. Got a scanner hooked up to the car and it said Evap Purge Solenoid Valve. There were recalls on this type of problem but not the same engine size. This could have caused a fatal accident had traffic been moving.

All right, so I have a little bit of bad news for you, so we hooked up a code reader to the car. And there were a couple of misfires. So there's a cylinder to misfire a cylinder or a random misfire detected, a cylinder 3, misfire a cylinder one misfire. So our service advisor thinks that it's probably not an issue with a coolant. An issue with the head gasket, and he would recommend that that gets replaced. And he said, at some point, you might need to replace the entire engine.

I have a 2017 Ford Fusion bought in June 2020. (No warranty) Oct 2020 the Transmission went out. I REPLACED IT. August 2021 the Wrench 🔧 came on and was giving code P0302 cylinder 2 was misfiring. Changed all the spark plugs and coils except #2 because the was stuck or stripped. 5 people and Ford dealership (they wanted to much) tried to get it out (no luck) took it to a shop they got it out but had to re thread it. It drove fine. THEN one day I'm driving and my car literally started over heating and said I was low on coolant pulled over and let it cool down gave it more coolant. Drove it like nothing to see here. Everything was fine, SO I THOUGHT 1 week later it did the same thing but the coolant kept running out and my car immediately started to blow out smoke actually turned off before i could pull over in the middle of the freeway (extremely dangerous) for everyone called. I took the car back to the mechanic and told him what was wrong and this dude said I blew the engine I need a new one. WTF! HOW? Gave me a quote for $4900. #Ford you need to do a EFFIN recall bruh how is literally everyone going through the same gd problem? ITS a malfunction with Ford. Then to find out that Ford has a faulty built engine block that allows coolant to leake over to spark plug #2, #3 causing them to misfire, knowing it will cause problems for the consumer is down right evil disgusting and dishonest. People are spending hard earned money on these cars getting loans, to get reliable working cars to take car of our families. only to have the car stop working at no fault of our our own. I HATE Ford for this warranty or not yall knew this was happening to these 1.5 EB engines And I know there's lawsuits out there for this. I'm definitely looking into that

My Daughters Words: In all my life we have owned ford vehicles, and never in my 18 years have I experienced a situation such as I have with the 2017 ford fusion my mother purchased after our 2018 car accident. In the past year I have become the primary driver of the fusion. At first nothing seemed to be wrong, a simple check engine light. I immediately went to the local AutoZone and used the code checker to see what the light was signaling. The code stated a misfire in cylinder 2, so we took it to Shealy's auto in Cayce for a deeper look and spark plug replacement. After Mr. Shealy and his team replaced the coil, and the spark plugs all was fine for a few days. We received the car back and two days later the check engine light returned. This prompted a swift return to Mr. Shealy where he re-checked the code and lightly examined the state of the engine. Mr. Shealy turned the vehicle into the on position and ran the code checker, after receiving the same misfire as before he opened the hood and partially removed the plastic cover over the engine. After confirming his technicians had replaced the proper coil, and all spark plugs, Mr. Shealy cleared the code and sent me on my way. 3 days later the car began running slightly warm, then violently throwing the code, overheat wildly, turning off electronic to reduce engine heat, and rethrowing the cylinder misfire when examined by the mechanic.

3/22/22 Check engine light illuminated and had cylinder 3 misfire code P0303. This was around 4 PM. Car was driven home and sat in driveway until 8 PM. Went to go pick up dinner, and rough idle began and interior heat was not working at all. CEL was still illuminated but car was driving fine. Did notice a sort of "vinegar" type of smell that quickly went away after driving. 3/23/22 Remote started vehicle to go to work and then I realized billows of white/blueish smoke were coming out of the exhaust. Ran outside and shut the vehicle off. Towed to McGovern Ford of Framingham in Framingham, MA. Complete engine failure due to coolant leaking into the cylinder. This all happened very quickly. The second the engine light came on, I scheduled the first available appointment on April 18, 2022. Less than 24 hours later it resulted in complete engine failure. There were no warning indicators other than the check engine light. This is a known manufacturing defect on Ford's part and they have yet to support their customers in resolving this issue. I have a 2017 Ford Fusion, with 63,000 miles on the clock, and it was purchased as a certified pre-owned in December of 2020. It has the 2.0L 4 cylinder turbocharged EcoBoost engine. McGovern Ford has no loaner vehicles available until the April 18th date, and Ford/warranty company will not cover a rental cost. I need a vehicle to commute to and from work, and now I am without a vehicle for the foreseeable future due to a manufacturing defect knowingly sent off the production line by Ford Motor Company - of which they refuse to rectify.

on 2/13/2022 while in Orlanda Florida only at @ 29K miles, engine light came on steady, but with no rise in temp - Dealer told me to drive it home (Chicago) it went out, then later came on solid again running rough, with leaking fuel and coolant inside and outside, and burning smoking exhaust and at strong smell of fuel everywhere = Fire hazard. Another delaer replaced long-block and told me it was a known issue found on an internal Ford Tech Serv Bullettin they were not allowed to give or show me. Should have been recalled.

Coolant is leaking inside the engine and is contaminating oil. Noticed it during oil change. There are others in online forums with the same issue over many years to current. This is a huge issue as there is a flaw in the engine design concept and the only fix is to replace the engine or a majority of the engine.

(POWER TRAIN) AND (TORQUE CONVERTER). HOWEVER MY VEHICLE WAS THE 1.5 VERSION AND WAS HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS AS THE 2.1 VERSION BEING COVERED THROUGH THE VEHICLE RECALLS. The engine overheated with no warning. The first time this happened was in traffic, and luckily the warning quickly went away. It seemed like a bug or maybe a faulty thermometer. Then it started running rough on startup and I noticed the coolant was empty. White smoke from the tailpipe. It was affected by the coolant intrusion TSB 19-2346, confirmed by the dealer. No CEL or other malfunction indicator besides the overheat warning. As the car was out of warranty at 80k miles, I was made to pay $3k (normally $8k) for a new engine.

The light keeps going on and off to check engine and there is a code for misfire in cylinder 2 and I had the spark plugs change and had the coil packs check and also constantly filling the antifreeze up my mechanic says to call Ford because of the issue that was posted and I tried but they are giving me run around and saying there’s nothing out there for this problem but there is and I only had the car 3 years and less that 60k on it what do I do now to fix it

Jul 8, 2021

Have had engine light on for months, have taken it in to be fixed and finally I was told it is from coolant intrusion into the cylinder 3 that i would need a new engine. Ford refused to fix it because it has 80k miles on it (bought it used at 56k) I have an extended warranty through the place i boughr it but its been weeks waiting on their decision to fix it or not. 6k to fix a car ive had less than 2 years and this is a know. issue, so well known the warranty place is only allowing new engines to approved cases and the new engines are the same price as rhe rebuilt ones!! Ford knows rhis is an issue, every mechanic i have spoke to knows this is an issue, theres service bulletins but no recall on the 2.0l ecoboost, just the 1.5.. why? Im told recalls dont hit til over a million people are affected or complain? how messed up is that?? meanwhile people like me who have not had the car long either pay or are out a car. Ps there is a class action lawsuit against ford for the 2.0 l so if you own a fusion maybe look into joining! i know i am!!!

THE OWNER/MYSELF DRIVING VEHICLE HOME MY 2017 FORD FUSION SE 1.5L ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN WHITE SMOKE BILLOWED OUT FROM THE EXHAUST LEADING TO A SEIZED ENGINE ON A HIGH TRAFFIC DENSITY HIGHWAY. THE CAR STARTED TO SPUTTER, CLUNK AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEPT FLASHING AS I PULLED OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THIS CAR HAD ISSUES BEFORE THE FAILURE OF THE ENGINE WITH CYLINDERS MISFIRING, SPARK PLUGS BEING FOULED AT LOW MILEAGE AND ENGINE LOSING COOLANT. PER MY VEHICLES BREAKDOWN I BROUGHT IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO WORKED FOR FORD AND STATED MY ENGINE LOCKED UP AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, AFTER BRINGING MY CAR TO ANOTHER SHOP FOR A SECOND DIAGNOSIS, IT WAS THE SAME ANSWER AFTER A FULL LOOK AT IT. I TRIED CALLING FORD IN MICHIGAN THEY GAVE ME THE RUN AROUND, MY DEALER FRED BEANS OF FORD GAVE ME THE RUN AROUND SAYING I HAVE TO COVER THIS REPAIR DUE TO IT BEING OUT OF MY WARRANTY. I DID THE PROGRAM 19B37 RECALL FROM FORD WHICH RESET THE COMPUTER SYSTEM FOR ANTIFREEZE AND COOLANT ENTERING THE ENGINE. CLEARLY, THAT ISSUE THAT FORD TRIED TO PATCH UP DIDN'T WORK. MY MECHANIC & FORD DETERMINED THAT A NEW ENGINE WAS NEEDED AND HAVE FOUND BULLETINS STATING THIS IS DUE TO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT KNOWN BY FORD AS FORD HAD RELEASED THE BULLETINS. THIS DEFECT LEADS TO ENGINE FAILURE AND IS NOTHING CAUSED BY THE DRIVER BUT SOLELY DUE TO THE FACT THAT WHEN CERTAIN ENGINES WERE MANUFACTURED THEY WERE MANUFACTURED INCORRECTLY. FORD IS UNWILLING TO PAY FOR ENGINE REPLACEMENT EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE ADMITTED THIS IS FAULT DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESSES IF THE ENGINE IS TO STALL OR SEIZE DURING DRIVING THIS COULD LEAD TO SERIOUS INJURY, ACCIDENT, AND EVEN DEATH. FORD IS NOT RECALLING THIS ENGINE AT THIS TIME. PLEASE - RECALL THIS ISSUE. 1.5 & 2.0 ENGINES ARE VERY PROBLEMATIC. THE COST FOR MY REPAIR IS $4,800.00 THAT I DON'T HAVE.

I / THE OWNER OF MY 2017 FORD FUSION SE 1.5L HAD A SEIZED ENGINE OCCUR ON MY COMMUTE HOME FROM WORK. WHITE SMOKE BILLOWED AND BREWED OUT MY EXHAUST AS I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING WRONG AND ALMOST CAUSED A COLLISION FOR THE PERSON BEHIND ME.. AFTER GETTING IT TOWED THE NEXT DAY OFF THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY I BROUGHT IT TO A REPUTABLE MECHANIC STATING THAT THIS IS A PROBLEMATIC ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE AND MY ENGINE BLOCK FAILED & CRACKED. PROCEEDING THIS, I WENT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC TO GET A SECOND THOUGHT, JUST IN CASE. SAME RESPONSE TO THE ISSUE. APPARENTLY, THIS IS A HUGE ISSUE WITH THE 1.5L. I WAS QUOTED $4,800 TO FIX THIS ISSUE, MONEY I DON'T HAVE LAYING AROUND, MY WARRANTY RECENTLY EXPIRED AND BOTH FRED BEANS OF LANGHORNE & FORD MOTOR COMPANY BOTH TOLD ME TO "POUND SAND" BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. THAT THIS WHOLE ISSUE IS ON ME TO BE FIXED. EVEN THOUGH I BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR THE PROGRAM 19B37 RECALL - WHICH FIXES THE COMPUTER SYSTEM TO "PREVENT" THIS ISSUE." THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE LOCAL SHOP FOR CYLINDER MISFIRES, SPARK PLUG FOULS & ENGINE START UP ISSUES. WHICH APPARENTLY ARE LEADING SIGNS TO THE VEHICLE ENGINE BLOCK ISSUE. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT A NEW ENGINE WAS NEEDED AND HAVE FOUND BULLETINS STATING THIS IS DUE TO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT KNOWN BY FORD AS FORD HAD RELEASED THE BULLETINS. THIS DEFECT LEADS TO ENGINE FAILURE AND IS NOTHING CAUSED BY THE DRIVER BUT SOLELY DUE TO THE FACT THAT WHEN CERTAIN ENGINES WERE MANUFACTURED THEY WERE MANUFACTURED INCORRECTLY. SUCH AS THE 1.5L. PLEASE RECALL THIS, NOW.

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON INDICATING A MISFIRE IN ENGINE 3. FORD DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDED NEW SPARKPLUGS AND IGNITION COIL. I COMPLETED THE REPAIR, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DISAPPEARED. AFTER FEW DAYS, THE ENGINE STARTED OVERHEATING SUDDENLY WITHOUT ANY WARNING. I CHECKED THE COOLANT RESERVOIR AND IT WAS NEAR EMPTY. PAID FORD AGAIN TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM, THIS TIME THEY IDENTIFIED COOLANT INTRUSION IN ENGINE 4 CAUSED BY INTERNAL COOLANT LEAK. THE RECOMMENDATION IS A NEW REMAN FORD ENGINE WITH THE ESTIMATE OF $5000.

AFTER 3 YEARS OF OWNING THE CAR AND 81,000 MILES (PURCHASED NEW AND NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES), VEHICLE'S ENGINE BLOCK CRACKED, RESULTING IN COOLANT CONTAMINATION. FORD'S INVESTIGATION SHOWED CYLINDER #2 AND #3 WERE MISFIRING AND OIL WAS LEAKING IN. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, POOR ACCELERATION, AND RUMBLING WHILE IDLING ALL FIRST OCCURRED ON THE HIGHWAY, JUST 2 DAYS AFTER A FORD SERVICE CENTER DID A COMPLETE ENGINE CHECK AND OIL CHANGE. ONCE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AT US AND THE ENGINE WOULDN'T PUSH PAST 2K RPMS, WE IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER (AS FORD WARNED US THAT FLASHING INDICATED FUEL WAS DUMPING INTO THE ENGINE). THE FORD DEALERSHIP WE TOWED THE CAR TO HAD NO AVAILABILITY TO FIX THE CAR, AS 4 OTHER FUSIONS WITH THE EXACT SAME ENGINE AND ISSUE CAME IN EARLIER THAT WEEK. THAT'S WHEN THE SERVICE MANAGER ACKNOWLEDGED THIS IS A MUCH BIGGER ISSUE THAN WHAT WE BELIEVED WAS A RANDOM BREAK. FURTHER INVESTIGATION SHOWED THAT WE COMPLETED THE RECALL FORD ISSUED (CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 19B37) 8,000 MILES PRIOR TO THE ENGINE CRACKING, WHICH WAS TO REPROGRAM THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE TO FIX: "COOLANT INTRUSION INTO THE CYLINDER BORES CAN LEAD TO COOLANT LOSS, EXCESSIVE TAILPIPE SMOKE, OR ILLUMINATED MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHTS DUE TO ENGINE MISFIRE AND COULD POTENTIALLY LEAD TO ENGINE DAMAGE". FURTHERMORE, FORD ISSUED TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 19-2139 THAT ACKNOWLEDGES THIS EXACT ISSUE AND THE WARNING SIGNS TO LOOK FOR, WHICH FORD FAILED TO IDENTIFY DURING THE ENGINE CHECK 2 DAYS PRIOR. IT'S CLEAR THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW OR MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THE 1.5L ECOBOOST ENGINE FOR 2014-2019 FUSIONS, AND I'M CONFIDENT YOU WILL FIND THOUSANDS OF OTHER OWNERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. FORD ACKNOWLEDGED THE ISSUE WITH RECALL 19B37, THOUGH IT'S APPARENT IT DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. FORD IS JUST TOO CHEAP TO TRULY FIX THE MESS THEY CREATED.

VEHICLE CODES STARTED TO APPEAR ON THE DASHBOARD ( TEMP LIGHT, ENGINE LIGHT, BATTERY LIGHT) WARNING SIGNS ALSO APPEARED ( OVERHEATING IN ENGINE ) ENGINE COOLANT STARTED TO DECREASE NO LEAK WAS DETECTED. IT WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC TO GET EVALUATED AND THEY CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT IT WAS LEAKING INTERNALLY INTO THE CAR WHICH CAUSED OTHER ISSUES. THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED FEBRUARY 2020 SO 8 MONTHS LATER THE CAR HAS COMPLETELY CRASHED. WHITE SMOKE IS ALSO EXPELLING FROM THE VEHICLE EXHAUST. THE SPARK PLUGS ARE BURNING UP THEY WERE REPLACED APPROXIMATELY 8 DAYS AGO AND THEY ARE COMPLETELY BURNED WHITE.

WHILE DRIVING MY 2017 FUSION 2.0 ECO BOOST WITH 77,000 MILES THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT CAME ON.THE LIGHT WENT OFF A FEW DAYS LATER BUT I HAD ALREADY MADE A SERVICE APPOINTMENT AT THE DEALER WHERE I HAD PURCHASED IT BRAND NEW. THEY'VE ALSO DONE ALL OF THE ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. THEY SAID IT JUST NEEDED NEW SPARK PLUGS AND INJECTORS CLEAND, SO THEY DID THE WORK AND CHARGED ME $400. AFTER I GOT THE CAR BACK 2 DAYS LATER THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON, I RETURNED THE CAR TO THEM. IT'S 2000 MILES OVER THE EXTENDED WARRRANTY I PURCHASED. AFTER THEY HAD IT A FEW DAYS THEY DETERMINED IT HAS COOLANT LEAKING INTO CYCLINDER NUMBER 1. THE REPAIR WAS $6,236.92 TO FIX. I WAS ABLE TO PERSUADE THE DEALERSHIP INTO HAVING THE EXTENDED WARRANTY COMPANY PAY HALF. MY PART WAS $3236.92

I TURNED THE CAR OFF, THEN BACK ON, AND IT DIDNT START. SO I TRIED AGAIN, AND THE CAR STARTED, I WAS ALE TO MAKE IT HOME SAFE. BUT THIS IS A HAZARD, I HAD CHILDREN IN THE CAR, I WILL LIKE THIS CAR TO BE RECALLED. I SAW IN 2017 IN JULY ABOUT FIVE THOUSANDS 2017 FORDS WERE RECALLED FOR THIS REASON. IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THAT COOLANT GOT INTO THE CYLINDER AND IT CAUSED MAJOR ENGINE DAMAGE AND I NEED A NEW ENGINE. I WILL GET A REFURBISHED ONE FOR MY $100 DEDUCTIBLE BUT I THOUGHT I SHOULD GET A BRAND NEW ONE. ECOBOOST ENGINES ARE GARBAGE. ONE AND DONE WITH THOSE. ILL NEVER BUY A FORD WITH AN ECOBOOST ENGINE AGAIN. TOYOTA IS MUCH MORE RELIABLE AND PERFECTS THINGS UNLIKE AMERICAN CAR COMPANIES THAT ONLY CARE ABOUT QUARTERLY SALES. THE CARS COOLANT WAS RECENTLY REFILLED AND UPON INSPECTION AFTER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED, THE COOLANT RESERVOIR WAS AGAIN EMPTY. THE CAR WAS KEPT UP ON MAINTENANCE AND DIDN'T SHOW ANY SIGNS OF MALFUNCTION PRIOR. I LATER FOUND OUT THAT COOLANT IS LEAKING INTO THE CYLINDER, CAUSING IT TO MISFIRE. I PURCHASED THE CAR ON OCTOBER 21ST OF 2019. I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT ISSUES WITH THIS CAR BASICALLY SENSE PURCHASING IT. I BOUGHT THE CAR WITH 54,000 MILES. I WAS UP TO ABOUT 74,000 WITH THE NEED TO REPLACE A MOTOR. I DID SO, BEFORE I REPLACED THE MOTOR THE BATTERY LIGHT WAS ON. I CHANGED THE ALTERNATOR BELIEVING THAT WOULD BE THE ISSUE, I ALSO REPLACED THE BELT WITH IT THINKING I MIGHT AS WELL. STILL BATTERY LIGHT WAS ON. SO I EVEN WENT AND CHANGED THE BATTERY AND STILL A BATTERY LIGHT. I HAVE DUMPED NOTHING BUT MONEY INTO THIS CAR SENSE PURCHASING IT. I HAVE BEEN READING NOTHING BUT ISSUES WITH THESE 2017 FORD FUSIONS ANS BELIEVE FORD NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS BECAUSE SO MANY OTHERS ARE EXPERIENCING THESE ISSUES AND NOW I BELIEVE THE ECM IS GOING TO BE REPLACED. I BOUGHT THIS CAR THINKING A NEW CAR WOULD BE A GOOD INVESTMENT FOR MY FAMILY AND TO GO BACK AND FOURTH TO WORK WHICH HAS BEEN NOT THE CASE. I HAVE HAD OLD WAR HORSE TRUCKS WITH OVER 200K MILES RUN AND DRIVE BUT KNEW THEY WOULD NEED TO UPGRADED TO A NEWER FAMILY CAR. I REALLY DO NOT THINK FORD IS TAKING ACCOUNT FOR THE REAL ISSUES THEY ARE HAVING WITH THEIR NEW VEHICLES THEY ARE SELLING TO THE PUBLIC WHO ARE TRYING TO MAKE A LIVING AND WITH CONSTANT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS THAT JUST ISN'T RIGHT. BASIC MAINTENANCE IS UNDERSTANDABLE BUT TO HAVE ALL OF THESE ISSUES JUST SEEMS UNACCEPTABLE.

MY 2017 FORD FUSION SE IS EXPERIENCING A P0301 ENGINE CODE ALONG WITH MAJOR COOLANT LOSS. THE ERROR CODE RELATES TO AN ENGINE MISFIRE IN CYLINDER 1. THERE IS ALSO WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM THE EXHAUST. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED IN MARCH OF 2018 AND HAS 69,000 MILE ON IT. UPON STARTING THE CAR IDLES VERY ROUGH FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS AND THEN SMOOTHS OUT. THE GAS MILEAGE HAS BEEN VERY POOR AND I HAVE BEEN GETTING HIGH ENGINE TEMP ALERTS AS WELL. I TOOK THE CAR TO BRANFORD FORD IN BRANFORD CT. THEY DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE AND TOLD ME THERE IS COOLANT LEAKING INTO CYLINDER NUMBER 1 AND THE ONLY WAY TO CORRECT THE ISSUE IS TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE COST TO REPLACE IS $5700.00!! THIS A 2 1/2 YEAR OLD CAR THAT NEEDS AND ENGINE REPLACEMENT?!? I DID A TON OF RESEARCH ON THIS ISSUE AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE OTHER PROBLEMS JUST LIKE THIS, SOME IN WARRANTY AND SOME NOT. FORD DID HAVE A RECALL ON THE 1.5 LITER ENGINE FOR THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. APPARENTLY THERE IS NO CURRENT RECALL OR WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR THIS PROBLEM, SO BASICALLY I AM BEING TOLD I AM STUCK WITH THE BILL. I AM LOOKING FOR ASSISTANCE FROM FORD TO REPLACE THIS ENGINE AT NO COST TO ME AS THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AMONG THE CONSUMERS BUT THERE HASN'T BEEN "ENOUGH" DOCUMENTATION TO WARRANT ACTION BY THE MANUFACTURER. INTERNAL COOLANT LEAK IN 2.0L FORD FUSION SE ECOBOOST CAUSED MY CAR'S ENGINE TO LOCK WITHOUT WARNING. NO START. CURRENTLY, THERE EXISTS PROGRAM 19B37 FOR 1.5L. MY 2.0L FORD FUSION SE ECOBOOST PRESENTED THE EXACT INTERNAL COOLANT LEAKAGE PROBLEM AS THAT OF THE 1.5L THAT IS PRESENTLY ON RECALL. MY PREVIOUS SPARK PLUGS CONFIRM THAT COOLANT HAS LEAKED INTO THE ENGINE OF MY CAR. ALSO, A COOLANT PRESSURE TEST WILL REVEAL COOLANT LEAK IS INTERNAL IN MY CAR. BIG STAR FORD CONFIRMED THAT MY ENGINE IS LOCKED AND THAT IT WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. THEY DON'T WANT TO PAY FOR DAMAGE. I'M A PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE OWNER AND ONLY BUY OEM PARTS. I ALSO HAVE AN ENGINEERING BACKGROUND. THIS INTERNAL COOLANT ISSUE IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. BECAUSE THE ISSUE STEMS FROM AN INTERNAL COOLANT LEAK CAUSING ENGINE FAILURE, 2.0L SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAM 19B37 RECALL. IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO. ON A SIDE NOTE, I HAD PREVIOUSLY TAKEN MY CAR TO BIG STAR FORD BECAUSE THERE WERE PROBLEMS WITH THE PCM. TIRES WERE SHOWING TO BE DEFLATING AS I DROVE ON THE FREEWAY. I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED AT THE NEAREST TIRE SERVICE COMPANY AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS A COMPUTER GLITCH. BIG STAR FORD REINSTALL THE PCM SOFTWARE AT THE COST OF MY DEDUCTIBLE. NHTSA, WE 2.0L OWNERS NEED YOUR HELP! PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND INCLUDE 2.0L TO THE EXISTING PROGRAM 19B37. I PERSONALLY HAVE EVIDENCE TO PROVE THAT AN INTERNAL COOLANT LEAK CAUSED MY ENGINE TO LOCK. NEEDLESS, TO SAY THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR ME TO DRIVE WITH A DEFECTIVE ENGINE & APPEARS I THE CONSUMER AM OUT OF $24,000 DOLLARS PAID & DEMAND FORD MANUFACTURER RESTITUTION!

I HAVE THE 2017 FUSION SPORT 2.7L TWIN TURBO AND I PURCHASED IT NEW. ON MORE THAN 30 OCCASIONS AND AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS THE VEHICLE LOSES ALL POWER WITHOUT WARNING. I HAVE HAD IT TO 2 DIFFERENT DEALERS WHO SAID THERE ARE NO CODES STORED INDICATING THIS HAPPENED AND SINCE THEY WEREN'T ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE ISSUE THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO HELP. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH FORD CORPORATE BUT THEY CLOSED MY CLAIM SINCE THEY HAD NO INDICATION THIS WAS OCCURING. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS EXACT ISSUE BUT YET THEY CONTINUE TO DENY THE PROBLEM. ON A FEW OCCASIONS I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY RUNNING 70 MILES AN HOUR. HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE FOR THIS TO BE ACKNOWLEDGED? THE NHSTA NEEDS TO MAKE FORD STEP UP AND TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. EVERY TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED THE CAR ALSO PUT ITSELF IN PARK BEFORE CAR WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP WHICH CAUSED A HARD JOLT TO THE TRANSMISSION. THIS IS GOING TO DAMAGE THE TRANSMISSION AMONG OTHER THINGS OVER TIME. I PAID $40,000 FOR THIS CAR AND DESERVE TO FEEL SAFE WHILE DRIVING IT ON THE ROAD. WHAT IF THIS WAS HAPPENING TO YOUR FAMILY WOULD YOU JUST IGNORE IT AND MAKE YOUR FAMILY KEEP DRIVING THE VEHICLE KNOWING AT ANYTIME IT COULD LOSE POWER AND CAUSE YOU TO WRECK? HOW COME NOTHING IS BEING DONE ABOUT THIS? MAKE THEM BUY MY CAR OR FIX THE ISSUE SO I DON'T HAVE TO PUT MY LIFE IN DANGER IN ORDER TO GET WORK. I AM A NURSE I SHOULD BE ABLE TO FEEL SAFE DRIVING TO WORK. THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED ONE TIME BUT WE'LL OVER 25-40 TIMES SINCE PURCHASE.

THE "SHIFT SYSTEM FAULT, SEE MANUAL" MESSAGE APPEARED.

HI I HAVE A 2017 FUSION THAT BEGAN TO STALL AND HAVE ISSUES AT 72,000 MILES. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE MECHANIC THEY DETERMINED THAT A NEW ENGINE WAS NEEDED AND HAVE FOUND BULLETINS STATING THIS IS DUE TO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT KNOWN BY FORD AS FORD HAD RELEASED THE BULLETINS. LUCKILY MY ENGINE SEIZED WHILE STOPPED.

AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY MY CAR ENGINE STARTED CUTTING OUT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. REPLACED SPARK PLUGS, FUEL FILTER AND COIL PACK. PROBLEM DID NOT RESOLVE. TOOK CAR TO CHAPMAN FORD IN SCOTTSDALE AZ. THEY FOUND THAT THE FUEL INJECTOR IN CYLINDER 2 HAD STUCK OPEN FLOODING THE CYLINDER WITH GASOLINE AND COMPROMISING LUBRICATION IN THAT CYLINDER. REPAIR REQUIRES REMOVING ENGINE AND REBUILDING IT. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 70,000 MILES ON IT OF WHICH 95% IS HIGHWAY MILES. IF I WOULDN'T HAVE KNOWN TO SWITCH IT TO SPORT MODE AND KEEP THE RPM UP UNTIL I COULD GET TO A SAFE LOCATION IT COULD HAVE STALLED ON THE HIGHWAY CAUSING A COLLISION. AFTER DOING RESEARCH ONLINE FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE ECOBOOST 4 CYLINDER MOTOR AND SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM. FORD REFUSING TO PAY FOR REPAIRS ON A CAR THAT'S JUST OVER 2 YEARS OLD. WITH PREVIOUS FORD VEHICLES I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN OFFERED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT WAS NOT ON THIS VEHICLE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 FORD FUSION. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE VIBRATED AND SHUTTERED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DISCOVERED COOLANT INSIDE CYLINDER NUMBER ONE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PEORIA FORD (9130 W BELL RD, PEORIA, AZ) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.

PRIMARY CONCERN: CAR LOSES ALL PROPULSION AND GOES INTO ACCESORY MODE WHEN ACCELERATING. I, AS WELL AS SEVERAL OTHERS WITH 2017 FORD FUSION SPORT MODELS, HAVE LOST TOTAL POWER WHILE LEAVING RED LIGHTS, STOP SIGNS, AND WORST OF ALL, MERGING ONTO THE HIGHWAY. MY CAR DIED UNDER NORMAL ACCELERATION WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MERGE ON THE HIGHWAY, AND WHILE PULLING AWAY FROM A STOP SIGN, ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, MONTHS APART FROM EACH OTHER. A MEMBER OF OUR FACEBOOK GROUP OF FUSION SPORT OWNERS CAPTURED HIS CAR LOSE ALL POWER, ON VIDEO, AND HIS CAR IS BEING BOUGHT BACK BY FORD, BUT THAT IS NOT ENOUGH. THESE CARS, ALTHOUGH FUN AND ENJOYABLE, POSE A SERIOUS THREAT TO NOT ONLY THE OWNERS OF THE CAR, BUT ALSO TO OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD WHO COULD HIT US FROM BEHIND, INJURING OF KILLING PASSENGERS IN EITHER VEHICLE, OR VEHICLES NEARBY. THIS CAR NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND REMOVED FROM THE ROAD. HERE IS HIS VIDEO: HTTPS://YOUTU.BE/NLNN0HKRHTG

I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND THE CAR DID NOT GO MORE THAN 10 FEET BACKWARDS WHEN THE WHOLE SYSTEM SHUT DOWN AND HAD TO RESTART. IT TOOK MORE THAN 10 MINUTES TO RESTART AND IT TOOK 3-4 TIMES OF PUTTING ON THE BRAKE AND PUSHING THE START BUTTON BEFORE THE SYSTEM WOULD RE-INITIATE. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THE CAR HAD DONE THIS AND THE WHOLE SYSTEM AND TO RE-START. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN UPLAND, CA AND THEY DID A SYSTEM/CHARGING CIRCUITS-CHARGE-TEST AND NOTHING CAME FROM THE TEST. THE CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY BUT SINCE THEY DID NOT FIND ANYTHING IT COST ME $ 95.

CAR IS A 2017 FORD FUSION SPORT 2.7L ECOBOOST CAR STALLED RANDOMLY. DROVE FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES PRIOR TO STALLING. WAS STOPPED AT A BUSY INTERSECTION ON A CITY STREET ABOUT TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN, THE CAR STALLED AND WENT INTO FULL ACCESSORY MODE. STARTED THE CAR BACK UP AFTERWARDS WITH NO PROBLEMS. CAR HAS 8500 MILES ON IT. A CAR STALLING WHILE IN DRIVE IS UNSAFE IN THE CASE OF BEING ON TRAIN TRACKS, STALLING COULD BE FATAL. CAN NOT BE REPLICATED AND NO CODES THROWN. WITH NO CODES, DEALER HAS NO IDEA WHAT THE ISSUE COULD BE. SEVERAL OTHERS (CAR EXPERTS, SOME ASE CERTIFIED) STATE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR COULD BE THE FAULT.

IN JULY 2017 I PURCHASED A 2017 FORD FUSION SPORT WITH THE 2.7 V6 WITHIN 300 MILES THE VEHICLE STALLED ON A HILL AND THE CAR STARTED TO ROLL BACKWARDS. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AND BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT IT FROM. THEY SCANNED THE CAR AND NO CODES CAME UP AND SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO WITHOUT A CODE. I TOOK THE CAR AND CONTINUED TO DRIVE IT. IT STALLED SEVERAL MORE TIMES, BROUGHT IT IN AGAIN AND NO CODES. THEY TOLD ME FORD WOULD NOT APPROVE ANY REPAIRS ON THIS VEHICLE WITHOUT HAVING A CODE AND A CONFIRMED ISSUE. I'VE BEEN DRIVING AROUND IN A DEATH TRAP THAT COULD KILL MYSELF OR SOMEONE ELSE AND FORD WON'T HELP. I FOUND ON AN ONLINE GROUP OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE AND HAVE NOT GOTTEN IT RESOLVED BY FORD. THERE ARE OTHER ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE TO. BUT THE STALLING IS UNACCEPTABLE. THE LEMON LAW FOR MY STATE SAYS I MUST LET HAVE THE CHANCE TO FIX THE CAR TO QUALIFY BUT THE IS NO TRACE LEFT BEHIND AFTER STALLING THEREFORE FORD HAS NOTHING TO REPAIR. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. DO NOT BUY!

UPON DECELERATING, MY CAR STALLED IN TRAFFIC. I WAS DRIVING ON A SUBURBAN CITY STREET AT APPROX. 35 MPH, AND DECELERATED TO A COMPLETE STOP. UPON PRESSING THE GAS TO START GOING AGAIN, I NOTICED THE ENGINE HAD SHUT OFF. THIS IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE, AS A CAR THAT LOSES POWER WHILE DRIVING COULD CAUSE A CRASH. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION.

HAVE HAD CAR FOR JUST ONE YEAR 18676 MILES AND IT HAS TURNED OFF RANDOMLY 3 TIMES DURING THIS TIME. RANDOMLY UNDER LIGHT DRIVING CONDITIONS WHILE MAKING A TURN THE CAR LOOSES POWER AND WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE DASH IT SAYS FULL ACCESSORY LIKE YOU JUST PUSHED THE BUTTON WITH OUT TOUCHING THE BRAKE TO START. ONCE COASTED TO A SAFE LOCATION YOU CAN RESTART THE CAR AND EVERYTHING RUNS FINE. NO CODES ARE LOGGED WHEN THIS ISSUE OCCURS. THIS COULD BE A SERIOUS ISSUE AS YOU HAVE NO WARNING WHEN IT HAPPENS AND IT LEAVES THE CAR WITHOUT POWER.

I PURCHASED THIS CAR ON 8/31/16 AND ON 11/28/16 THE DREADED DEAD BATTERY PROBLEMS STARTED. I TOOK IN IT, THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY ON 11/28 SAID THAT IT WAS PROBABLY JUST A FAULTY BATTERY FROM THE MANUFACTURE AND THAT IT HAPPENS, RARELY BUT IT HAPPENS. ON 12/31/17 I WENT TO START MY CAR AND IT AGAIN WOULD NOT START. EACH TIME THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED, I HAVE TO MANUALLY UNLOCK MY CAR BY TAKING OFF A PIECE OF THE DOOR HANDLE TO EXPOSE THE KEY HOLE AND THE DOME LIGHTS OR DASH LIGHTS DO NOT COME ON, THAT'S MY DEAD GIVEAWAY THAT IT WONT START. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP THIS TIME THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE CAR WAS MANUFACTURED ON 8/1/16 AND SAT TOO LONG WITHOUT BEING DRIVEN SO IT CAUSED THE BATTERY TO MESS UP(EVEN THOUGH I HAD THE BATTERY REPLACED A MONTH EARLIER, AND DRIVE EVERY SINGLE DAY TO WORK). I GOT THE CAR BACK AND I BET YOU CANT GUESS WHAT HAPPENED ON 2/4/17... MY CAR WAS DEAD. WOULDN'T START, WOULDN'T UNLOCK... DEAD. THIS TIME THEY WE'RE "99.9% SURE" THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM BY UPDATING MY POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULE. THEY HADN'T, IT DIED AGAIN ON 5/22/17. WHEN I TOOK IT IN, THEY UPDATED THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE AND SENT ME ON MY WAY, SO I'M JUST WAITING FOR IT TO DIE AGAIN HONESTLY. THEN... I TOLD THEM MY TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING ON 5/22/17- THEY IGNORED IT WHEN DOING UPDATES AND IT WASN'T RESOLVED. ON 6/13/17 I TOOK IT IN BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION WAS STILL SLIPPING SO THEY UPDATED THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE AGAIN... DIDN'T FIX IT(OBVIOUSLY) AND THEN ON 6/22/17 I TOOK IT IN BECAUSE I ALMOST GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING AND SLIDING MY CAR INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC TRYING TO SHIRT GEARS(ITS AUTOMATIC) AND THEY REPLACED A PRESSURE VALVE, NOT SURE WHY YOU WOULD NEED TO REPLACE A PART LIKE THAT ON A BRAND NEW CAR ANYWAY, BUT THE TRANSMISSION STILL ACTS UP.

WAS DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT, BETWEEN 5-10 MPH WHEN THE CAR CLICKED LOUDLY. I LOST STEERING AND BRAKES, AND CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP. THE ENGINE HAD TURNED OFF, THE CAR HAD PUT ITSELF INTO PARK, AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WENT BACK AS IF I HAD OPENED THE DOOR WITH THE CAR SHUT OFF.

MY CAR, WITH 2K MILES, WOULD NOT START (PUSH BUTTON START, THIS IS THE PLUG-IN HYBRID "ENERGI" MODEL). AFTER BEING TOWED TO A DEALER, THEY HAD TO TEAR THE CAR APART TO FIND A BAD WIRING HARNESS AS PART OF THE HYBRID SYSTEM. THIS PART WAS UNAVAILABLE, AND I AM HAVING TO WAIT OVER 5 DAYS TO HAVE THE CAR REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT PROVIDED ANY ALTERNATE TRANSPORTATION AND INSTEAD TRIED TO GET ME TO BUY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SUPPORT FROM FORD. THIS IS A SAFETY FIX, AND THE CAR ITSELF JUST WOULDN'T RUN. TO NOT TAKE CARE OF THE CUSTOMER OR HAVE THE ABILITY TO QUICKLY GET A PART IS UNACCEPTABLE. WIRING HARNESSES SHOULD NOT FAIL IN 5 WEEKS AND 2K MILES. THE CAR DROVE ONE MILE, THEN WOULD NOT RESTART. IT ONLY COMPLAINED TO "GET OFF THE ROAD SOON". A FAILURE OF WHAT SHOULD BE A VERY BASIC PART AT 2K MILES IS CONCERNING, NOT TO MENTION THE INABILITY OF FORD TO REPAIR IT IN QUICK FASHION. THIS DOES MAKE ME WONDER IF THE PROBLEM IS MORE WIDESPREAD AND SO PARTS ARE HARD TO COME BY.
