My 2022 hybrid Maverick suddenly lost power as I was driving at 45 MPH. There was no warning lights; the entire dashboard went black. I lost all power including lights, speedometer, and power steering. Additionally, and more concerning, I lost all brake functionality so I could not stop the vehicle, even pressing the brake very hard. The parking brake switch also did not work due to the power loss. The brake pedal would not budge until suddenly after the vehicle completely lost all momentum. In the process blew through a stop sign and I could've easily been killed, or worse, killed other people as I had no control of the vehicle as it coasted. Thankfully nobody and nothing else was harmed as I was the only one on the road, it was just traumatic. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and preliminarily inspected. They decided they want to address a technical safety bulletin for a "no start condition", though the conditions did not match this situation exactly. But they also stated the hybrid/powertrain warranties did not apply, so I rejected the repair due to high cost. It is uncertain if the repair they want to do would fix the issue. It is currently available for inspection upon request, though Ford may try to buy it back soon. It has not been inspected by police or insurance. The only light I can think of was a month before I saw a brief "Charging System Service Soon" warning, but it was only on momentarily (did not persist). I am unsure if this is related.

The 2022 Ford Maverick repeatedly experiences complete electrical system failures, including engine shutdown, loss of power steering, brakes, and the electronic parking brake, while driving at highway speeds, resulting in total loss of vehicle control and creating a life-threatening situation for the driver, passengers, and others on the road; prior warning signs included the 12-volt battery not staying charged and intermittent total electrical power loss, and while no warning lamps indicated imminent failure, the issue was reproduced and documented by a dealership that replaced the battery, performed a BCM relearn, and applied a software update, yet the problem persisted, leaving the vehicle undriveable and unsafe, requiring repeated jump-starts, and demonstrating a fundamental defect in the electrical and control systems; the vehicle is currently scheduled for further warranty diagnostics at a second dealership, and because prior warranty repairs failed to correct this repeat, safety-critical, and life-threatening defect, I request immediate manufacturer investigation, full warranty coverage, and evaluation for vehicle replacement under applicable Lemon Law or consumer protection remedies, as the repeated failure places lives at risk and the vehicle cannot be safely operated until fully corrected.

While driving in local traffic, my vehicle completely shut down. All power was lost. The engine shut off, shift control was disabled and the power steering did not work. Several warning lights were displayed including a "shift to neutral" warning, which was disabled. I was unable to restart the vehicle. After sitting for 10 minutes, the vehicle was started and resumed normal operations. This has happened on more than one occasion. The local dealership has kept the vehicle and cannot duplicate the failure or determine the cause. I am concerned that this could happen on the highway and cause myself or other travelers to be injured.

Vehicle dashboard started flashing a service warning while driving and then immediately going away. Afterwards, electrical system failed when vehicle was put into park. No lights or any electrical functions were working. Issue is consistent with program 22B39. Ford had not contacted me about this issue in the past when it was first discovered.

1)After sitting for 2 days the battery was drained or dead. The truck would not start. I jumped the truck and it started up. Every time I park the truck i get a warning that the battery is low and I should drive it to recharge the battery. I drive the truck but it will not recharge. 2) The check engine light comes on. I went to the auto parts and scanned for diagnostics. The scan came back as a fuel tank pressure sensor failure. 3) When I drive the truck it smells as if something is burning. 4) The fuel gage is not showing accurate reading. 5)The fuel door wont open unless I have the truck turned on and then it takes several minutes. 6) After driving on the freeway I came to a stop on the off rap before entering a main street and the truck died.

Recently, the rear passenger window went down and will not go back up. Searching the internet, this is a common problem. This is a safety issue from weather and noise as well as roadway debris if not repaired. While it is a common problem, Ford is not covering this safety issue as a recall.

Jun 13, 2025

Vehicle lost all power while driving. This was due to a failure of the hybrid system. Created a dangerous situation as vehicle started coasting without power in neutral.

May 29, 2025

Positive battery cable went out which is a $1500 repair. It appears that this is quite a common issue. Ford has previously offered a "battery cable overlay" Program 22B39 which appears to use a smaller gauge wire. Sounds like a mickey mouse fix to an issue that isn't owner related.

My vehicle has had a problem where it would not start upon hitting the start button and immediately go into a low power mode and would not start unless jumped potentially leaving you stranded if you did not have a jump box the manufacturer and dealer have confirmed the problem to be under service bulletin22-2340 stating that it was a connection problem between the battery and something in the front of the vehicle where they would have to replace the wiring harness to fix it where they quoted over $2,400 for something that should be under a recall and not a service bulletin where my vehicle is within the year range but not the mileage range for their service bulletin. My vehicle is over 160,000, mi where it is a manufacturing defect and not a where or use problem. I do believe that they should have to fix it

Apr 11, 2025

Vehicle failed to start due to a faulty wiring harness connecting the 12v battery to a component of the engine. This left me stranded with no warning, and I was unable to jump the vehicle through normal means. This is a known issue with the 2022 Ford Mavericks, as demonstrated by Ford's TSB 22-2340, and according to Ford, does not fall under their hybrid warranty.

Apr 2, 2025

The truch goes into a deep sleep mode to save and conserve battery. Not enough of a charge goes into the battery for charging. Unable to open for app for tracking and remote starting. I can fully charge the battery myself but only last a few days. Voltmeter shows 11.5 volts.

Apr 2, 2025

The battery (new) needs to be jumped several times a week. This happens when it goes into sleep mode. Also, the vehicle stalled twice while turning left (in electric mode). My dealership could not fix the problem, but gave me a print out in mechanic terms. I have had so many issues with this hybrid. Ford did say it qualified for the “lemon law”, but then they said no. I have only put on 5000 miles and there’s been several updates and recalls

I was driving along in slow traffic on the highway and lost ALL power to my truck and it just stop. No electrical, no drive. There is a recall for this but apparently it did not include my VIN.

Jan 25, 2025

The vehicle goes into deep sleep mode multiple times per day. I must jump the auto to start it. Ford replaced the battery in June 24, and the problem began again on 12/24. The car has needed to be jumped over 32 times since Jan 1, 2025. Ford has no solution.

The entire electrical system failed in my truck while DRIVING IN A SNOWSTORM. New engine light saying “the PCM detected the power relay de-energized earlier than expected”. The most alarming thing is that this truck runs like there is nothing wrong with it. No warnings or alerts. Then all of a sudden it dies. Total loss of power in the vehicle. I’ve tried to have the dealership replace these issues but they have either canceled on me or have told me that the “part isn’t in”. Meanwhile, my truck is not safe to drive. I’ve read numerous reports of this same thing happening to other owners of this truck, with most of the consensus saying that the OEM factory wiring harness for the battery is bad.

Dec 29, 2024

The 12-volt accessory battery fails without warning resulting in a no-start situation. The failure to start has left my family stranded in dangerous weather and traffic conditions. The vehicle has been serviced repeatedly by a local Ford dealership who has confirmed that 12-volt battery issues. The 12-volt battery has been replaced twice, but this did not solve the battery drain issue. Warnings for powertrain malfunction and low state of battery charge showed up in the FordPass App starting in October 2023 and have continued for the past year without resolution.

Dec 27, 2024

There is no power to the vehicle at all (can't even unlock doors). We had the battery replaced and still no power.

Nov 30, 2024

The last time I vehicle was sitting at the Ford dealership for more than two weeks. I ended up with a low battery warning in their Ford app after taking it back in with less than 36,000 miles they replaced the battery. It has been a year since then and the same issue has happened now that has been at Ford for over three weeks to fix the CV axle. Battery failure can leave. You stranded in remote locations with no way to start your vehicle which should be a safety concern. The other safety concern could be the reason that the electrical drains the battery could cause problems with the high-voltage battery causing fire. While researching the issue, I have discovered that this is a common problem with the 22 through 24 Mavericks and obviously the issue is not the battery the issue is the electrical system draining the battery.

Nov 22, 2024

Truck stay in 12v battery deep sleep. None of my cabin lights work, ambient lighting, remote start, nor does my ford pass app work because of this issue. Its been on going since about a month after purchase. So that is two plus years of this constant issue

Nov 18, 2024

Issue Description: The battery has been consistently failing. The battery has been replaced twice in 2024 already. On both occasions after replacing the battery, the new battery was drained and dead again within 48 hours. The battery totally loses power and has to be jumped off nearly daily, sometimes two and three times per day. The battery drains so low that the doors won't unlock with the key fob, no interior lighting or engine power. Safety - Vehicle constantly won't restart in rural locations with no vehicles around to jumpstart the vehicle. The Ford Service Center has inspected the vehicle on several occasions and placed the vehicle on it's diagnostic tool twice this year, but it never reveals anything that is draining the battery. There are no warning signs. These 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrids simply do not start, and FORD has no solution to these daily repetitive battery drains. Any time the engine is turned off, there is a very high probability that the truck will not restart without locating someone to hook up jumper cables and jumpstart the vehicle. There are hundreds and hundreds of online complaints about this very issue with the draining batteries on the 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrids. Yet, Ford refuses to issue a recall on the vehicles or make any efforts to resolve the outstanding issue for customers who have purchased these defective 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid Trucks. The customers are simply stuck with defective vehicles that won't start.

Nov 6, 2024

The driver side door has cracked/broken welds near the hinge area. I have had it inspected by the dealer and confirmed the issue. There were no warning lamps however the door does flex and this area excessively, and there is an audible squeak during door opening/closing.

Nov 6, 2024

I am constantly shown "deep sleep" to conserve the battery in my FORD app on my phone. I also do not have interior lights when I open the door or unlock the vehicle after sitting several hours or overnight. I have the vehicle back to the dealer multiple times to resolve this issue and am currently waiting on a BCM replacement to be completed. There were no warning lamps or messages on the truck itself only through the FORD application and the physical lack of interior lights when opening or unlocking the vehicle.

2 year old Truck died , changed battery and still is totally dead . Had to jump the truck to start . Problem is from battery to computer . Called ford and there’s no warranty since is 35000 miles power train . Very disappointment , did some searching and everybody is having the same problem . They said ford is charging $3000 to repair

Sep 28, 2024

Vehicle enters "Deep Sleep" mode NEARY EVERY DAY and all 12 volt systems such as lighting are not useable. Vehicle will NOT START sometimes when Deep Sleep mode occurs. No matter how much we charge the 12v battery, this deep sleep issue will return within 1 day. Dealer has not fixed this issue after "supposedly" checking it out on a few visits to Livermore Ford Dealership. It has now been over 2 1/2 years of this problem with no fix.

Sep 26, 2024

vehicle suddenly lost power while travelling at freeway speeds, and decelerated to 35 mph with no speed control. All electrical systems showed warning lights, and I was suddenly driving 30 mph under traffic speeds at a freeway interchange with no escape lanes or emergency lanes for half a mile. I am a paramedic with extensive EVOC training, and I can say with my extensive experience that this was a near-fatal situation, only avoided by the attentive drivers around me, and I almost created chain collisions attempting to maneuver to the side until there was a breakdown lane accessible. Vehicle had all electrical systems in warning, and vehicle automatically set the parking break before I put it in park. I attempted to restart the vehicle several times with no success. The vehicle entered a battery mode which did not allow use of the accelerator pedal, and automatically drove the care at 30-35 mph with only breaking control to control speed. I was able to limp the vehicle off the freeway in the breakdown lane, and move it to a safe location. This event was an extreme hazard to myself and all around me, and I compliment the semi driver behind me on his quick response to the sudden deceleration of my vehicle. Note I own 2 of these vehicles, a 2022 and a 2023, and both have experienced this issue.

Sep 23, 2024

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer to be repaired under an unknown recall and the powertrain control module software update, and the key fob failed to communicate with the vehicle and the vehicle failed to start. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the battery wiring harness. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to the recall repair under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V590000 (Electrical System, Power Train). The VIN was included, and the vehicle had been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.

Sep 11, 2024 Fire

Front passenger seat, seat heating element malfunctioned - created a small fire and smoke produced. Dealership diagnosed as 'a couple of hot spots that burned through the cover.' It is available for inspection. Fire hazard caused burn on passenger, smoke inhalation. Smoke/fire started while driving at 55mph, resulted in sudden breaking and pulling off the road. Yes, the dealer found hot spots that caused the burning - but take no responsibility for the issue as that car has 56000 miles. No, it has only been inspected by Ford dealership. No warning lamps, no symptoms until physical burning sensation prior to the smoke/fire.

Sep 2, 2024

My vehicle completely shutdown while we were driving on interstate 15 doing 77 mph. When everything shut off we had no brakes and no way to put the hazards on. It’s literally died while we were driving 77 mph.

Vehicle has had a Powertrain failure three times in a month. This causes the vehicle to look up and lose power. Dealers can not figure it out and Ford has not provided any solutions. Been without vehicle for 6 weeks at this point. Malfunction causes all systems to fault and vehicle seizes up making it undriveable.

Jul 15, 2024

I have a 22 hybrid maverick with ~ 27,000. I was driving back home from out of town and I had already driven for a good two and a half hours. I was passing an 18 wheeler when suddenly my whole truck turned off. The dash, infotainment screen all black. I tried to turn on the hazards but nothing came on. The steering wheel was stiff and I was pressing the brakes as hard as I could but we were barely slowing down. I coasted across the right lane and into the shoulder/grass and finally came to a stop. I turned the truck off and on and a whole bunch of warnings and lights popped up. I turned it off again and when I turned it back on it was like everything was back to normal. I drove the rest of the way home ~ 50 mph. The truck felt awkward when switching from gas to electric and shook a bit when coming to stops. I will be calling the service dept tomorrow.

Jun 10, 2024

Friday 6/7 I was driving my 2022 Ford Maverick at night and suddenly with no warning the dash went dark, there was a grinding noise and the truck completely shut down - engine, electrical, lights, everything. Luckily, I was on a residential street and was able to get it off the road because the flashers would not work. My safety was definitely put at risk - I was in a totally disabled truck on the side of the road after dark with no working lights of any kind, including emergency flashers. There were no warning lights in the truck prior to shut down, and no messages received via FordPass at that time - the Ford app actually showed all systems as "good". I had the truck towed to the Ford dealer that same night. Saturday morning 6/8 I received a message via the Ford App "Remote features disabled to preserve battery". Monday morning 6/10 I received a message via the Ford App "Service Engine Soon Warning". All while the truck is sitting in the dealer service lot. Background - Another ongoing issue - 3 times in the last month - May 3, May 8, and the morning of June 7th - I've been stranded and had to call AAA to come and jumpstart the truck - all 3 instances I was running errands, would shut the truck off to run in a store only to come out and the truck is totally dead. When it happened on May 8th, I received a warning via the Ford App "Service Engine Soon Warning" and took it into the Ford Service center on May 9th.

I got recall notices in the mail in May. Unfortunately Ford of Kirkland (WA) Could not schedule me for an update until July 25th, that is their first opening because of all the recalls. On [XXX], 2024 at [XXX] I was traveling NW on [XXX] from Yakima WA to Ellensburg WA. I was traveling about 75 mph when the car shifted itself to a lower gear, then lights started flashing all over the dash for numerous things. the monitor stated something about low gear, service engine light on, diagnostic was being run, all in a matter of seconds. As I was looking to see if I could get over the truck's collision brakes activated even though there was no one in front of me. I lurched forward while my truck was slamming on the brakes out of the blue. I managed to make it to the side of the highway and shut off the truck. If anyone had been behind me they would have slammed right into me. This would have been a high speed rear end collision and I as well as others could easily have been killed! This was needless to say, terrifying! A tow truck came and towed the truck to Valley Ford in Yakima WA, I haven't yet heard what the analysis of this total system failure was. I waited in the truck for an hour for a tow along side a very busy highway with numerous large semi's passing me less that a couple feet from the driver's side where I was seated. This should NEVER happen to anyone. Ford cannot manufacture a vehicle that is this inherently dangerous! It's just a miracle no one was right behind me or there would have been major injuries, and it would not have been my fault, or their fault. It would have been Ford's fault! These trucks need to be taken off the roads. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

May 18, 2024

The Maverick unexpectedly switched to limp mode and had engine failure while in motion. The Maverick would not go over approximately 25mph unless coasting faster on a downhill. On some uphills, it struggled to maintain 10mph. Turning the vehicle off and back on again did not alleviate the issue. Approximately two months ago, I started to have a check engine light on. It took the dealership two months to get my Maverick in for service. The service finally occurred this past Monday/Tuesday (13-14 May). Ford thought they fixed the issue which they had not. They also did the current recalls on the truck. This most recent highly dangerous issue happened after those recall software updates. The FordPass Alert: "The powertrain control module has detected the engine timing chains have exceeded 95% of their useful life and requires service now. The control system invokes a symptom of limited power." This is a common issue amongst Maverick Hybrid owners and Ford is not doing anything to fix the issue. Many Maverick owners are having it happen multiple times and at speeds up to 70 or 75 mph. it is preferable that Ford be forced to take responsibility and fix the issue before people are serious injured or killed. Thank you.

•My saga continues driving my Maverick hybrid to NY to visit my mom for Mother’s Day hoping the new Battery/Smart Junction Box that my Ford Dealer replaced on 4/9 was the culprit in the 2 shutdowns experienced on [XXX]. •[XXX] Maverick shutdown 3x driving on highway around 70 mph during 400-mile trip. Had to wait approx. 20-minutes each time for engine to cool off and reset from electric mode to continue on. NY Ford dealer diagnosed on 5/13 and reports: U1010 is present , Hybrid Powertrain Control Module is suspected to be bad They said it would take a few days to get a new PCM from Ohio warehouse. While driving at approximately 40mph, the 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid suddenly went into "Limp Mode" with speed instantly dropping to approximately 10mph. Did not lose power, the dashboard stayed lit but showed no warnings. Vehicle would not accelerate above 10mph. This happened without warning. I pulled over and shut off the vehicle then restarted it and after that, it operated fine. If I had been driving on a highway at a higher speed I could have had a major accident. Currently trying to get a service appointment, waiting on a call back from the Ford dealer Service Manager. Again, there were no warnings or error messages before or after the problem occurred.

Check engine light Power train light (wrench)/reduced power Brake light pre-collision light/pre-collision unavailable Hill assist message The above warning lights appeared out of no wear when pulling up to a stop light.. The parking break was automatically engaged and the above warning lights appeared. When I tried to accelerate to make a turn, the truck would not accelerate with me using the accelerator, but it started accelerating on its own. I had to keep riding the brake because it keep accelerating on its own until I was able to get it to a parking lot.

3/28/24 My 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid’s engine shut down and lost acceleration driving 70-80 miles an hour on a highway going through hills after 100 miles. Vehicle displayed a bunch of dashboard alerts as it soon lost all acceleration and would only drive slowly in Electric mode. I pulled over and tried again, but it was stuck in electric mode with barely any acceleration and displayed Check engine, service vehicle, bring to the dealer, etc., and a few other alerts. I shut off the engine and tried it again 5 min later, and it was still in electric mode. I shut it off again and waited around 15 minutes while trying to get roadside service using my Ford App, which showed local dealers but I could not find any towing service. Then, after the truck cooled down, ~15 minutes, it started up fine, and I could drive it. The engine shut down again after about another hour, displaying the same dashboard alerts as seen earlier. I pulled way over, shut everything down, and waited 10-15 min or so , and it started and ran fine to get me home in 30 min or so. I brought it to the Ford dealer the next day, 3/29/24, it took them 8 business days, and they said it was fixed on 4/9/24; they replaced the Battery/ Smart junction box.

I had just filled up my truck with gas and started driving to work today and the truck went into limp mode. It flashed a low gear warning, then started to slowly stop, all of the system alarms went off, including the check engine light. There were so many pop-up's I can't recall them all. I was able to pull over and start slowing down before it engaged the emergency brake and I experienced a hard stop. I turned the truck off and back on with no help. I turned the truck off again and opened the door, then shut the door and turned the truck back on and the brake was then turned off but check engine light still on. When I put the truck in drive it would start to accelerate without me pressing the gas. I pulled over again and turned the truck off again and back on. This time the truck behaved more normally but the check engine light is still on. Not sure if this is related to last recall service I recieved.

On April 1, 2024, while using cruise control going uphill on the interstate in heavy traffic, the truck went into LIMP mode without warning, and multiple lights appeared on the dashboard. Once I swerved over to the side of the road I turned the truck off, let it sit for 15 minutes and turned it back on. Turning it back on allowed the truck to get out of LIMP mode, but the check engine light remained. This happened several times on my drive, but I was able to finally finish my drive several hours later. Next day, all lights on the dashboard were off. The ford dealership could not determine the source of the issue or recreate the issue. This is a major concern as this issue put my safety at risk and could have caused a major accident on a major interstate, putting others’ safety at risk as well. On April 23, 2024, I went to start the truck, and the battery was dead. I confirmed no lights were on to drain the battery, and from April 23, 2024 forward, my power windows randomly stop working.

Apr 24, 2024

After shutting the vehicle off and removing the key from the ignition the ICE engine continues to run for a bit. The steering wheel display is also lit up and I had the door open to the vehicle. I opened the hood and confirmed the engine is running. This has happened a few times so far. Sometimes the display that shows the MPH and other info goes out but the engine still runs. I've also had occasions when the key is removed, the engine is running and then shuts off. Pressing the gas pedal, the engine comes to life. If I hold the pedal down the ICE engine runs, remove my foot from the gas and the ICE engine shuts off.

On April 22, 2024 my truck had a loss of power foe the second time while driving on the interstate with my family. There was no warnings or anything, the truck simply lost power and I had to pull off the road at which point it went into limp mode. I had several lights on my dash, Mai ly the check engine light and my mobile app recorded a fault with the drive train. This is now the second time this has happened in a few months. I have taken it to the dealer both times and they've told me that nothing is wrong with my truck. I explained that it is extremely dangerous but they said they can't do anything because the truck isn't reporting any issues. Please put pressure on ford to fix this. It is getting out of control.

Vehicle was in cruise control driving along the highway at-speed when the engine suddenly cut out and cruise control stopped maintaining speed. Pressing the accelerator did nothing, but the brakes still worked. After turning cruise control off the accelerator was still having no effect, and the vehicle did not let me re-engage cruise control. All other electronics (navigation, music, dash, hazard lights, etc.) continued to work fine, but I noticed that the light on the gear selector was blinking instead of the normal solid yellow. I pulled over onto the shoulder and came to a stop, at which point the vehicle put itself into park and engaged the parking brake. Several warning and advisory messages appeared on the screen advising me not to drive the vehicle, and almost all of the warning lights on the dash lit up. The electronics continued functioning for a time, but after a short while (less than 2 hours) they died as well. This included the locks, mileage indicator, windows, hazard lights, and gear shift—the vehicle could not be put into neutral. The vehicle was loaded onto a flatbed tow truck and taken to a dealership. Service invoice is attached. To summarize, it appears that a failure in the heat exchanger caused engine to cut out. Cause of electrical failure after stopping is unknown.

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, his girlfriend who was occupying the front passenger's side seat, informed him that there was an abnormal odor inside the vehicle. Additionally, the contact sustained severe headaches while driving. The contact drove to the hospital, where he was informed that there was an elevated level of carbon monoxide in his blood, and he had sustained carbon monoxide poisoning after two hours of exposure. The contact also stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the heater exchange needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 70-75 MPH with the Adaptive Cruise Control engaged, a message indicating that the gear was changed forcibly was displayed, and the Eco mode was disengaged, and the engine stalled. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road. The messages "Service Advancetrac", "Service Engine Soon" "Pre-collision Assist Not Available" and "Hill Assist Not Available" were displayed on the instrument panel. Additionally, the messages "Power Train System Fault" and "Collision Assist Unavailable" were displayed on the mobile app. The traction control warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after several attempts and a Police Officer assisted the contact in driving to the other side of the road. The contact was able to continue driving at 45 MPH. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the failure could not duplicated because the check engine warning light was not illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 18,000.

I was driving in town going about 20 MPH when I approached and intersection and stepped on the brakes. The brakes locked up, multiple warning lights, messages, audible alarms went off. I though the truck died and I put it in park and turned off the key. Then I turned the key back on, all the lights and warnings came back on, but it also said ready to drive. I was not able to accelerate using the gas pedal, truck was moving slowly on its own, it gained some speed but only ran on the electric motor. No gas engine. I got 3 blocks to my destination very slowly and shut the truck off. I had to go inside to do some work and when I came back about an hour later I turned the truck on and all the alerts were gone except the check engine light. It did run normal then. After calling the dealership they said to bring it in so they could look at it. I left it there and they called later saying they had pulled multiple error codes, did not tell me what they were, they cleared all the codes and drove it and said it did not act up for them and said I could come pick it up. I do not want to drive it because I feel like this could happen again at any time and if I were driving at a higher speed or on a interstate and this happened who knows who could have been hurt. This Maverick is my daily driver for work ect. but I will not drive it unless I absolutely have to right now. I got no answers from the dealership. Before this, no warning lights had been on.

Driving around 20 mph, when the car lost power /almost felt like it was stalled. Check engine light came on (yellow wrench icon) and pop up message "service soon". Had to stop vehicle and restart several times to get car going again. Ford Pass app shows a code for Power Malfunction / Reduced Power (see image from phone app). Technician at dealership pulled up error codes from the past few weeks (see images).

Apr 16, 2024

Driving at 65mph and the vehicle began to lose power. Messages displayed on instrument cluster "Service engine soon" "Pre-Collision Asist not available" "Power train malfunction/reduced power" vehicle started losing power and was unable to maintain speed. Check engine light appeared as this was occurring. This occurred in traffic and other drivers did not expect this. I was able to pull over to the side of the road and shut the vehicle down. Once I started the truck again the check engine light remained on but I was able to accelerate back to 60mph.

I was driving [XXX] on [XXX] around [XXX] yesterday morning north . Without warning I lost control of the accelerator and the speed diminished to around 35 MPH. Several warning lights flashed onto the dashboard saying systems were failing. Check engine light came on and a "wrench" symbol appeared. The light on the transition control dial for "D" started flashing. I was in a construction area with no shoulder when it happened. I was able to creep into a niche on a partial turnoff around .5 miles later. I shut the car off and restarted it. Same problems. I noticed I was .25 miles from an exit and waited for traffic to clear from behind. Managed to get to 10-15 MPH and up the exit with traffic blaring around me. Parked at a McDonald's and wait for a tow truck that never came after 2.5 hours. Made an appointment with nice folks at Classic Ford in Columbia. I was told tow truck might be another 2.5 hours so I tried to restart car. This time only the "check engine" light stayed on. I drove the car slowly in electric mode around the parking lot and it seemed safe at lower speeds. I mapped out a "less the 45 MPH" route to Classic Ford and was able to reach there without further incident. However, the "check engine" light remained on the entire trip. The car is now being checked by Classic Ford. I have had no diagnosis yet. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Driving down highway at normal speed. Car lost all engine power, still on but indicated gear shift was not in drive. Pulled off to side of highway. Put drive in park. Dash came up with a bunch of warnings. Turned off. Turned back on. Same warnings happened. Put it in drive and it just start going forward without any input. Was injured in power. Drove it to safe spot. Turned off called for tow. Tried turning it back on and returned to normal but check engine light was on. Very unsafe to loose power in the middle of the highway. My two friends died like that!

Took my maverick for the system softward update and when I drove it after the update my truck suddenly had a loss of total power while driving on the freeway at 70mph. The dashboard cluster had all the lights come on check engine, abs ect light up and I had limit power 5mph enough to get my to the side of the freeway and all of a sudden the brake engaged and the truck jolted to a stop. I took the truck back to the dealer and they uploaded the system update again and released the truck back to me and a couple of days later the same thing happened.

Apr 3, 2024

Driving at highway speeds, the vehicle started de-accelerating with a message on the dash saying to slow down to shift in selected gear. The vehicle did not respond to any accelerating to avoid traffic to get to the side of the road and only deaccelerated. The "D" indicator in the PRNDL was flashing as i pulled off to the side of the road. Once stopped, error messages appeared on the dash; "Hill Start Assist Not Available," "Service AdvanceTrac," "Pre-Colision Assist Not Available," and "Service Vehicle Soon." After waiting 5-7 minutes with the vehicle turned off, The vehicle was again drivable with the CEL illuminated. This issue generated two codes: U1011 - The automobile fault code U1011 indicates a problem with the Controller Area Network (CAN) communication harness, a faulty Engine Control Module (ECM), or a poor harness ground connection. The most common symptom is the Engine Light ON or Service Engine Soon Warning Light. U1028 - The automobile fault code U1028 indicates a communication issue between the vehicle’s modules. This is often accompanied by the engine light turning on. The cause of this fault code could be a faulty module, an open or shorted module harness, or a poor electrical connection in the module circuit.

Was driving on the freeway and a ton of warnings suddenly appeared on the dash. Pre-collision assist not available, stop driving now, service engine soon, powertrain malfunction, etc. The truck would not accelerate when the gas pedal was pressed and slowly slowed down. The truck would auto-accelerate (without gas pedal input) to about 20 mph unless the brake was applied (limp-mode). I pulled over, disconnected the 12V battery and reconnected which seemed to fix the problem. The dealership could not figure out the issue. I believe that the 12V battery was somehow drained to a point where it fed a low-voltage to suite of safety sensors which all went haywire.

Apr 2, 2024

Engine failed while driving on highway. No noises, just check engine and multiple other warnings on instrument panel turned on. The vehicle lost power but would still drive at about 25 mph. I was able to stop the car in a safe place and after turning it off for 10 minutes it started up again like normal.

I brought my 2022 Ford Maverick hybrid to Franklin Ford dealership on 10/2/23 for repair with battery issues I was having previously. At random times the car would not turn on from start despite the battery testing at full power. Franklin Ford installed software updates they said resolved the power issue and I drove off the lot with the car on 10/7. 15 minutes later I was driving on the highway at 70 mph and the entire dash panel lost power. I tried to accelerate and the engine had no power as well. Fortunately I was safely able to move to the break down lane and coast into a highway exit. Since the car had no power I removed the key and tried restarting which worked successfully. My engine light was on and I received about 10 engine and powertrain warnings in my Ford mobile app. This was a major and life-threatening malfunction that the dealership had no explanation for and neither did my case worker at Ford Customer Service. I had owned the car for less than 12 months at the time and it was extremely concerning knowing that the car could now shut off at a moments notice while driving. I returned the vehicle to the same Franklin Ford dealership where it received the software update that seemed to put the vehicle into failure. Their solution was to reroute the wiring harness through the engine since it was previously exposed to the wheel well and had corroded the external layer of the harness. I'm submitting this report because I have seen dozens of similar cases with the same year and model as me. As a first time customer of Ford this has been a nightmare experience.

Freeway driving - normal conditions. Vehicle suddenly loses most power and all the warning lights appear. After powering off for a couple minutes then it will act normal with check engine light on. This happens multiple times in a couple hundred mile drive.

One week after having recall [XXX] completed on [XXX] driving on [XXX] at about 70 miles per hour my truck slowed down to 10 miles an hour with my dashboard lighting up with a slew of warning lights blinking like crazy. I was able to get to the side of the road before it conked out all the way. Luckily my wife and did not get rammed into. Service engine now, powertrain failure, will not go into gear at this speed, collision assist warning lights all came on and were blinking. This was [XXX]. Luckily somehow I got the computer rebooted and drove home very carefully. I took it to dealer the following Monday, they had it for 2 days but warning lights were not on so they gave it back to me with nothing rectified. One week later this happened again on [XXX] a smaller highway, same warning lights but at a slower speed. Once again I got the computer to reboot but had to hold my foot on the brake because vehicle wanted to take off and the speed limit was 35. I took it into the same dealer the next day [XXX] and it has been their since. Today is March 29. The dealer finally was able to get Ford to admit this recall screwed up some software and they have no fix yet. No one should go ahead and get this recall done because someone is going to get killed. Yes, I was driving around 75 mph [XXX] in Thousand Oaks, Ca and I lost power to the engine. No acceleration from the gas pedal. Was able to turn hazards on and make it off freeway. This issue now has happened over 5 times at all speeds. Truck is currently with Ford. Also this issue never happened until Ford fixed the CV axles that went bad. First time it lost power was the night I picked up from dealership from them fixing cv axles. They also did some recall updates with codes. I can say this is a very dangerous situation when losing power driving on a California freeway. Not having my truck is also causing me many issues with work and clients. The truck is my lifeline. Vehicle had a sudden loss of power at ~40mph and began rapidly decelerating. Had there been a car behind me, the sudden deceleration could have caused a collision. Warning lamps and messages displayed on the instrument cluster instantly. I pulled the OBD codes and received U1011 and U1028 as active codes. These codes indicate a PCM software issue. It is important to note that this issue occurred after a PCM software update was performed as part of a recall. I power cycled the vehicle, cleared the DTC codes, and after multiple attempts, the vehicle worked normally again and I was able to drive it home. I have been unable to recreate the problem after clearing the codes. Prior to this incident, I have not had any problems from the vehicle. I suspect the the PCM software recall is what caused the problem.

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer for recall repairs, of which three were completed. While driving 70 MPH on a five-lane interstate, the navigation screen began to ding, and alerts and messages were displayed. The service track was offline, the incline assist was offline, and the vehicle failed to accelerate above 20 MPH and went into LIMP Mode. The driver pulled over to the side of the road. The contact reset the battery and continued to drive. The service light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer, who stated that the failure was not related to the recalls that were completed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. After approximately four days of driving at unknown speeds, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to another local dealer, Wyatt Johnson Ford (646 Thompson Ln., Nashville, TN 37204), who stated there were no codes and was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The dealer's recommendation was to download and update the software and test drive the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 29,781.

The dealer said a hybrid part that transfers power failed. I was starting from a stoplight at a busy intersection and lost power and a warning popped up saying to turn my engine off immediately, luckily I was able to coast into a gas station. If I was on the highway it could have been catastrophic.

Mar 11, 2024

After having recalls worked on, my truck became completely inoperable. The first failure warning was a message that said "Gear will engage at low speed." I lost the ability to control acceleration. I then got messages for "Powertrain malfunction" "Pre-collision assist not available" "Hill start assist not available" "Service AdvanceTrak" "Service vehicle soon" "Check Engine." Came to a stop. Truck then began accelerating on its own. Being unable to control the acceleration of my vehicle was scary and dangerous. The auto-acceleration was very unsettling, causing me to jerk back and forth by applying the brake to limp home. If this had happened on the highway, it would have been very bad news. This issue occurred twice. The first time the dealer released it and said it was fixed. The second time they released it without doing anything. The vehicle has been inspected by Ford Mechanics exclusively. No prior warnings occurred. The problem appeared seemingly out of nowhere. The truck drove perfectly for 49,000 miles. The day after the recalls were performed, it was inoperable. A week after getting it back, the failure happened again, this time stranding me in another city.

While towing my boat down the interstate my truck lost all power from the engine and the dash began flashing with all sorts of errors. There was zero warning of this. Thankfully, I was safely able to get to the side of the interstate thankfully but I was basically dead in the water. The truck would sort of drive on its own, no input from me at all, it would just start moving if I let off the brakes and get up to about 35mph. The dash had the check engine light on, ABS light, and the transmission light on. The following messages came up on the screen; service engine, service advancetrac, hill start assist disabled, and the pre-collision assist was disabled. Thankfully no one was injured but it was incredibly dangerous that the vehicle lost all power in 70+ mph traffic, especially while towing a boat.

When I restarted that vehicle the camera returned to normal functioning.

The contact's wife owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that while driving 65-68 MPH, the vehicle decelerated independently to 40 MPH. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal, but the vehicle failed to respond and lost motive power. Additionally, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that he used physical strength to steer the vehicle. The contact was able to drive across four lanes and pulled to the side of the roadway. The contact stated that he turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle operated as needed. The contact was able to continue driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 23,364.

My vehicle died on my driveway. I have no power, no lights, cant open my locked trunk. Checked voltage on the battery. It shows 12.6V (normal, so no need to jump start). Checked the same thing on the other side of the main harness (in the engine compartment). It shows zero. Something is wrong with the main harness. Towed it to the closest dealership. They confirmed. One of the contacts on the harness broke. Luckily I was on my driveway already. What if this issue would happen when I was driving on the highway and my family were with me. Dealership ordered harness replacement (its impossible to fix this one). So in a couple of weeks/month it will arrive and they will replace it. But I'm not confident in my truck any more. Bad cheap harness is the main cause of this issue. Ford decided to use cheap component. And this is the common issue for Maverick Hybrid. Lots of people reported it. We need new recall

The contact's son owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start after several attempts. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed; however, the dealer had not provided the diagnostic information to the contact and stated that they had ordered the parts for an unknown repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was included in Ford Campaign Number: 22B39, which she related to the failure. The manufacturer then followed up with the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

Parked in front of garage turn off and knew something was not right. truck loss all power . was dead ,,completely dead. The next day I was leaving for a trip. called for tow and tow could not jump it. truck would not go into neutral. Hybrid electric transmission would not go into neutral. I left for trip came back and still dead. had to call for another tow, tried to jump will not jump or turn over. would not go into neutral. could not push truck or unlock or turn steering wheel. this is a major safety issue. If you kid is in the truck you can not open the truck. If the truck is on fire and your kid is in the truck. you can not open the truck!. if the truck died at Rail road track. died on freeway , or when in traffic your doomed. It had to be put on four wheel dolly and towed to dealer at dealer over 30 days. still has a fire recall ford does not have a fix for. heat exchanger, hybrid cable, battery changed and dont feel safe to drive it.

I cut the car off for a few minutes to help another driver on the side of the road. When I returned, nothing would work. I could not start the vehicle, the emergency lights would not work, no lights or screens would work, I could not get the vehicle out of park or disengage the steering lock so I could push it to the side of the road. There were no warning lights or notifications prior to this happening. This car has 11,000 miles on it and is still under warranty. The only anomaly I noticed is that the radio stopped working some time before this happened. I did notice the odor of electrical overheating when I got out of the car. Having an immobile car on the side of the road with no warning lights is, in my view, a gross safety problem. I have returned it to Ford, but they cannot say even when they will diagnose it. In the meantime, I am without transportation and have had to rent a vehicle at my own expense.

May 24, 2023

No power to vehicle. Had this occurred anywhere else (as I was very close to my home) I would have been stranded, or possibly gotten into an accident had it occurred on the Highway. No technician has inspected it yet, as it just happened this morning. Upon looking into what the issue could be, I quickly identified that this seems to be an incredibly common, almost ubiquitous issue with the Ford Maverick XLT Hybrid and without the resources necessary to fix the issue, I have no recourse. This vehicle is just over one year old and I feel that this is unacceptable, especially for a vehicle so reliant on electricity.

Apr 22, 2023

Truck has been going into deep sleep. Failed to start do to battery while in garage. Failed to start another time leaving me stranded. Dealership has replaced battery 2 times. I mentioned checking wiring harness, but they just replaced battery. Approximately 3 weeks after replacing battery 2nd time it is going into deep sleep mode again. I am concerned I will become stranded once again with a dead battery

On Monday the 27th of March, 2023 I drove the truck home and there was no issues. When I went to go drive the vehicle on Tuesday morning to work, the 28th, it didn't start. There was no power to the vehicle and it wouldn't even turn over. I tested the truck battery and it was completely dead. Wednesday the 29th I called the dealership to report the issue and they asked for a reason to why the vehicle wouldn't start. I couldn't give then a reason so they asked me to get the truck towed. I got contacted by the service department at the dealership to get more information from me but I haven't heard back from them. Its been over a week and I still haven't heard from the dealership. The dealership is University Ford in Durham, phone number 919-999-2928. They said I needed a appointment but I couldn't have scheduled an appointment without knowing there was going to be an issue with the truck.

Under rapid acceleration requiring over 50% of the engine's power, the computer system detects a "fault" and shuts down the engine. This has occurred five times in the last 4 months while attempting to merge onto freeways, interstates, and local roads. In every instance, the engine shut-down cause oncoming vehicles to rapidly slow down in order to not hit my vehicle and I had to pull off to the side of the road to let the computer system "reset" in order to continue my travels. The problem was brought to the attention of the local Ford dealer twice (will be going back based on recent occurrence of March 5, 2023 ). There were no warning lamps, messages, or other systems prior to the problem occurring. This problem has occurred on December 8, 2022; December 12, 2022; December 23, 2022; March 2, 2023; and March 5, 2023.

The truck battery connection is faulty causing it to loose complete power to the vehicle after driving and turning off it won’t restart. No power means no hazards, complete blackout on the vehicle. This is reported on YouTube by so many other’s experiencing the same issue. They replaced my battery which was not the issue, the next day I experienced the same dead vehicle issue. Ford also did not tow it, they wanted to charge 626.

Received notification vehicle is in deep sleep mode though vehicle was driven yesterday.

Brakes are too sticky and I'm not able to control the braking even if I am using the eco mode which is supposedly slow enough already. Normally happens when I just started moving the car from park and when I am going to stop and go local traffic. When I took the car to the dealer they said they could not update the software because there is no code for braking problem for this car. This car has been showing check engine light since December 24, 2022 and when the check engine light is on I could not access my OBD port. The chicken didn't light has been going off and on for three times now, took it to the dealer and the dealer was able to find a fault code but could not pinpoint the problem yet. When the check engine light is ON, the car does not seem to have enough power to move.

This is follow-up to NHTSA Complaint 11502916 reported 01/21/23: Maverick Hybrid was at dealer for 5 days. First - Brake issue many of us are experiencing was reportedly resolved (TSB 22-2493) by reprogramming PCM and SOBDM-C; brakes seem better at slow speeds now! Second- As for the two incidents when vehicle motor stopped while driving at speeds 50mph+ and accelerating, dealer put a "Hotline Contact" into Ford motor to seek guidance however all test came up with nothing in terms of determining the cause or resolution. Since the vehicle still runs, I picked up my truck and guess I will continue to drive it until 'Russian Roulette' makes truck break down again. Dealer did mention that the SOBDM is an electrical code for brakes and stalling so maybe the brake job also fixed the engine malfunction but they can't be certain. Regardless, experiencing total engine failure at highway speeds is very frightening! Until I have FORD documentation that the problem is with 100% certainty diagnosed and resolved, I will never travel with a passenger or a pet in my truck again for fear of engine failure at highway speeds could result in a horrible tragedy! I have been very lucky not being rear-ended or even worse with the two engine malfunctions; I pray my luck continues as FORD has no answers for me!

Jan 30, 2023

Twice, within a one week period, my hybrid vehicle failed to start. In fact, the key fob failed to unlock vehicle. I changed the battery in one key fob and still wouldn't unlock the vehicle. I had to unlock vehicle manually with the key and vehicle still wouldn't start. Vehicle dash board and all interior lights not working. Both times service was called and vehicle started right up with a jump from a battery pack. No check engine light was displayed either time. I have checked the Ford Maverick owners website and a bad wiring harness appears to be a problem that many hybrid owners have reported that Ford replaced to resolve this problem. I am concerned that this defective wiring harness could be a fire hazard. Also now the vehicle is unreliable and could leave me stranded on the highway or die in heavy traffic or when trying to merge or exit the interstate near my home.

Jan 24, 2023

Total loss of electric power. There are no dashboard lights or indicators. There were no warning signs or indicators. The car drove fine to work but was dead by lunch time. Battery reads above 12V.

Two issues with my 2022 Hybrid Maverick: First, the brakes are unpredictable. Often in slow moving situations, the brakes fail to engage until I ultimately have to floor the pedal often causing a grinding noise and abrupt stop. Attempts to slowly brake sometime fail. Passengers in truck are thrusted forward when this occurs and I often feel like I am going to rear end someone. Brakes will be assessed next week at my local FORD dealer in conjunction with the engine problem. For a SECOND TIME my ENGINE FAILED WHILE ACCELERATING on 55 mph highway. As I normally accelerated to cross the Choptank River bridge in MD, the engine revved but the car failed to accelerate, the engine malfunction came on and a red box saying to pull over safely. Having experienced this before, I knew I had to get off the highway. I barely made it across two lanes of traffic to pull off to the adjacent fishing pier. I noticed my electric power was a low as my window would barely move. I turned off the car and called my dealer. They advised that I could get a tow or if I felt safe, and the car turned back on, to drive it in even though the malfunction light was still on. So I drove it home Friday night and it goes to the dealer on Monday. However, this engine failure happened to me once before in early December which required a tow in to the dealer. Again, I was normally accelerating on RT.695 when the engine revved but the truck slowed/stopped in a exit/merge area. I did not have enough power to get to the shoulder so I managed to pull over into the small area of the merge/on ramp. At this time my car went into a Deep Sleep, nothing worked. Once towed to the dealer, they assessed my car had an "old" battery in it and replaced it. Guess it wasn't the battery since my engine has failed again. Also, since the first engine failure, my overall gas mileage only averages 35 mpg but before these episodes I averaged 41mpg for 8 months. Feeling VERY UNSAFE in my Maverick now!

This small Ford 2022 truck is a brand new first year of its type Hybrid, with electrical regenerative braking. The 2022-2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid system attempts to use electrical regenerative braking at speeds that are too low to generate a braking effect. When creeping forward in stop-and-go traffic below 10 mph, depressing the brake pedal has zero effect on slowing the truck down. Numerous times I have been in situations that required what I might refer to as sensitive, gentle or careful braking where one might "drag" on the brake to creep forward in traffic or parking. That is nearly impossible and NOT consistent with the brakes on the Hybrid Ford truck. Depressing the brake pedal with a heavy foot does engage the hydraulic brakes to finally stop the vehicle. But it also does it in a very sudden way, causing passengers items in the back seat or bed to be forced forward, as in a sudden crash. This has been a problem since I took delivery of the vehicle and I’ve had many close calls in traffic thanks to this defect. My wife hates to ride (and will not drive the vehicle) in city driving situations. No warning lights are associated with this problem.

Jan 3, 2023

1- brakes grabbing at slow speed less the 5mph. 2- touch screen/backup camera has frozen up 3 times in the middle of backing up! You continue to back up but camera screen stays the same.

Dec 12, 2022

While attempting to accelerate to pass, the engine shut down and a warning displayed to pull over as soon as possible. The engine check light displayed and I only had electric motor operation. There was no power to continue to pass and I was able to return to an open lane and pull off the road without any further incident. I was lucky that the road was fairly open and there was no oncoming traffic. This is the third time this has happened and each time was while attempting to perform rapid acceleration in "normal" hybrid mode.

Dec 12, 2022

The aluminum battery cable is intermittent, which leaves the truck dead. TSB 22-2340 has been issued. IMHO, this should be a mandatory recall. A totally dead hybrid is dangerous!

[XXX]: Got it. And may I ask when you took your vehicle to be seen by Ford Lincoln Fairfield? [XXX]: currently my vehicle is 39,000 miles [XXX]: Nov 14 2022 [XXX]: Thank you! [XXX]: Please allow me 2-3 minutes to research this for you here on my end. [XXX]: ok thank you [XXX]: I am still checking on that for you [XXX], thanks for holding! [XXX]: Sounds good thank you [XXX]: Thank you for holding for me, [XXX]! So that I can best assist you, can you please clarify for me what it is exactly that is occurring with your vehicle? You mentioned that your vehicle will not turn on, is that correct? [XXX]: yes well the truck died while running in the road, while driving suddenly no sign of power or electricity and without warning became unresponsive in every aspect regarding to electricity (Breaks, Steering wheel, Parking break, Transmission, airbags) given the case the truck is hybrid everything stopped working. After that the truck did not start again no ignition total loss of power. [XXX]: Thank you for clarifying that for me, [XXX]. I can only imagine how much of an inconvenience this all must have been for you. I want to also ask, what did Ford Lincoln advise about your warranty coverage when your vehicle was inspected? [XXX]: Well to my disappointment I was told that is was covered the after like 2 weeks they called me back that warranty was not going to cover it [XXX]: So that is unacceptable for me [XXX]: I can understand your disappointment, as having unexpected repair expenses can be quite the burden. If you don't mind me asking, did Ford Lincoln Fairfield provide a reason as to why the warranty would not cover your vehicle's current concerns? [XXX]: No any reason it just said that it was out of the warranty that the bumper to bumper is like 36,000 [XXX]: I mean my truck has an airbag recall and won't be fixes until 2023 according to my research [XXX]: So to me this kind of unsafe vehicle should be bigger than a recall INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Many electrical faults caused by a bad wiring harness from the 12 V battery to the fuse block. Battery shows a full 12 volts but faults at the fuse block. Can be jump started, but will not start after ignition is turned off and shows zero dash lights when trying to restart.

Nov 3, 2022

The vehicle will not crank and has no power. I have been getting the deep sleep notification nearly everyday. The wiring harness seems to be the issue but dealership says they find nothing wrong. Had service 4 times for dead maverick and they have replaced the battery 3 times. The vehicle will only start if I jump it through the hood terminals. If it sits for more that 24-48 hours I have to jump start the vehicle. FordPass app is useless due to being in deep sleep mode all the time. Seems others are having the issue with the wiring harness and C1617e eyelet terminal.

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that he had come to a complete stop and had turned off the vehicle. However, upon attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The contact stated after manipulating the battery cable, he was able to restart the vehicle. However, the failure reoccurred on three other occasions and the vehicle failed to restart on the third occurrence of the failure. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed that the battery harness wiring cable needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 9,200.

I was driving East on Rte 70 near Mt. Airy, MD at approximately 2 am the morning of Sunday, Oc. 11. at approximately 65 mph. In and instant all power to the vehicle went dead. The engine stopped and all electrical components went dead. Most importantly, my lights went out, the power steering was inoperable, and the brakes went out. It was absolutely terrifying. Because of the lack of brakes, I narrowly avoided colliding with an 18-wheeler. I was able to pull the car off the road on the right side and allow the vehicle to drift to a stop (again, no brakes) over the course of 1/4 - 1/2 mile. I called a tow truck. They towed the vehicle to Apple Ford in Columbia, MD. I am told by the Dealer that this most likely an issue with the battery wiring harness, and that Ford is aware of the issue. It's unfathomable to me that Ford would not issue a recall for this extraordinarily dangerous issue. I have contacted Ford directly. They have been nothing short of abusive. Their IVR phone system seems intentionally designed to confuse and frustrate callers. I have attempted to escalate the issue to a supervisor, given the extremely dangerous nature of the issue. The representatives and customer advocates in the Ford Customer Relations depaterment have not been helpful at all.

Oct 11, 2022

At 6k miles my early build 2022 ford maverick hybrid died entirely while sitting in the garage. The truck can be jumped but will not hold a charge beyond that one use. The battery is fine according to the dealer, but it appears internal connections are not correct, causing the truck to die after every use. Ford is saying this might not be under warranty when the truck is an obvious lemon. Other owners are reporting the same issue with the hybrid models on various internet pages. It seems to be a common issue that should be subject to a recall.

Oct 6, 2022

My truck repeatedly enters "Deep Sleep" mode. According to Ford, "Deep Sleep" mode activates when: (a) Vehicle inactivity for 14 consecutive days (b) The battery voltage drops below 9.5 volts; or (c) Extremely cold/hot weather conditions. My truck is never inactive for 14 days and has never been in extreme cold/hot weather conditions. Therefore I can only conclude severe voltage drops from the battery. The internet is full of complaints about this truck entering deep sleep mode and then failing to turn on again, even with a jump start. I'm concern for my safety that this vehicle will leave me stranded.

VEHICLE HAS NO POWER ANYWHERE... AS IF THE BATTERY IS DISCONNECTED.. TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN #22-2340

Sep 26, 2022

On my way home from a 200 mile trip, approx. 10 miles from home, engine lost power so I glided to the side of the road, as it slowly lurched to a stop on a rural highway. I wasn't able to get it off the highway as there was little to no shoulder so I backed it into a driveway, shut it off, looked under the hood, under body, tires, everything looked normal. Got back in, turned the key and hit the gas pedal hard and it wasn't lurching and said it was moving under all electric and that got me 3\4 ers of a mile down the road on all electric, then it died again and half the truck was sticking out onto the road. Attempts to put the truck in neutral to push off the road into a nearby residential driveway didn't work as every time i would get it in and try to leave the vehicle seat to push it would pop back into park. Dash Indicator display showed the battery symbol and engine lite and Fordpass alert showed up on my phone. Said it was going into deep sleep mode to preserve the high voltage battery power. Found out this morning 09/26/2022 there is a Ford TSB out to repair these battery cable, battery, electrical issues. The 12v battery cable to the engine fuse box connector has a bad weld connection.

Sep 20, 2022

Vehicle wouldn't start, had to jump start it under the hood. 12V battery under rear seat showed sufficient voltage. Took vehicle to dealer and they reproduced and confirmed the conditions. Vehicle is still at the dealership awaiting repair. Suspect faulty soldered terminal in the battery wiring harness. Safety issue if similar faulty soldered joints exist throughout the wiring harness or electrical system causing more catastrophic conditions, i.e. loss of power while driving.

Sep 8, 2022

When turning off the vehicle, all electrical is powered off, and will not turn back on. This includes all door locks and shifting abilities. The vehicle cannot be switched to neutral to be moved without battery power and a manual override.

Sep 8, 2022

Vehicle can not power on after shutting down. You must jumpstart the vehicle everytime. Dealer stated wiring harness is the issue

Sep 7, 2022

Drove vehicle, stopped and turned off the vehicle. No lights, no power nothing at all. Jumped vehicle and drove the vehicle home with no issues. I tried to restart the vehicle and nothing at all again. 12 volt battery was tested and found to be in good condition so it was not the battery. I had the vehicle towed to the dealer.

Sep 7, 2022

The vehicle lost all electrical power with no response from any of the vehicle systems (i.e., door locks, lights, ignition, etc.).

Sep 6, 2022

My car goes into deep sleep mode for no reason. The battery is fine, the harness is having issues.

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle decelerated as if the transmission was slipping. The contact pulled into his residence driveway when he noticed smoke coming from under the hood. The contact opened the hood and a large amount of gray smoke coming from the engine compartment. The contact used a garden hose to put out the smoke. The contact stated that he never saw a flame; however, he smelled the odor of burnt plastic. The contact stated the vehicle then failed to start-up. The contact had the vehicle towed to a local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the 300 AMP fuse was burnt and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The contact stated that he received a letter from the manufacturer for NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V484000 (Engine and Engine Cooling, Structure). The failure mileage was approximately 4,700.

Faulty wire harness, (part # C1617E-1) causing the vehicle to die without warning!

Aug 25, 2022

Only had my Ford Maverick for 3 weeks and went to start the truck and it was completely dead. Couldn't even use the key fob. It went into Deep Sleep Mode. Had to have it towed to the dealer. Still waiting on it.

Aug 25, 2022

Yesterday I pulled into a gas station and the moment I turned the key off everything went dark. Usually the radio and instrument cluster stay on for a bit until I open the door but not this time. 5 minutes later it finally came back on, after me trying to investigate what's happening. Thought it was a fluke and drove about 45 minutes away to an appointment and got stuck for an hour or two until I could get someone to jump me. Then drove home, turned the key off same thing happened again. The only way to get the vehicle on is to jump it. 12v battery reads 13.6v on my voltmeter, but under the hood near the fusebox it's only reading 3.36v. They are supposed to be the same which means there's an electrical wire harness issue or a loose connection somewhere. Been driving this since Jan with no issues at all. I drive around 2 kids aged 4 and 16 months. Getting stranded over 45 minutes away from my house with 2 kids isn't safe, it could have been worse on a 86 degree day. I've read online forum multiple people having these same issues with this hybrid truck. Picture below with purple circle is where people are stating the issue is from.

Aug 21, 2022

Compete electrical failure while driving on highway. Car engine cut off and “stop safely” message came up. Jiggled loose connection on wiring harness positive termination under the hood and everything came back to life and car operated normally. Engine/electrical system failure at highway speed very unsafe- faulty wiring harness needs recall replacement issues.

Aug 20, 2022

The entire electrical system failed and couldn’t be jump started by the Roadside Assistant.

Aug 19, 2022

Went into a Walgreens, came out 10min later truck had no power what so ever, had truck jumped, drove to dealership truck was @ the dealership for 1month due to wiring harness on back order.

Aug 18, 2022

Upon turning off the vehicle the electrical power throughout the entire vehicle will fail, leaving vehicle stuck in park, with no ability to move. After this occurs, vehicle will no longer start. If you are able to get vehicle to turn back on (either through jumping or putting pressure on the wire terminal near the underhood battery) the vehicle will die again once turned off. Issue began occuring at 8,000 miles, it has been reproduced at the dealership, and no warning lights alert the issue. Safety at risk due to high probability of being stranded when vehicle does not revive, and a possibility of the issue occuring while driving.

Aug 18, 2022

There is a wiring harness that connects the 12v battery in the hybrid Maverick versions with the components in the engine bay -- dozens of users in one the Maverick Truck Club forum have posted about this wiring harness failing due to a poor solder connection. This has now happened to me as well. In my case, there was no warning, the truck completely went dead after I came back to work from lunch. The entire electrical system, which runs off the 12v battery when you turn off the truck, was 100% dead. The battery was fine, at 12.5v, but the rest of the system couldn't access the battery power, and you couldn't turn the truck on to access the high voltage battery power since that relies on the 12v battery to engage the contactors. I had my truck towed to the dealership and it took them more than a week to get the part replaced. I told them what I knew about the issue and they determined that this wiring harness was indeed the problem. They said there is STILL no official bulletin by Ford and no recall at this time. This part needs to be recalled and fixed so people are not left stranded when it could be easily prevented due to a faulty part. I've attached my dealer's service notes.

Aug 18, 2022

Electrical power harness failed, shutting down all electrical systems. The emergency brake, engine, and instruments immediately ceased to function. The dealer diagnosed a faulty wiring harness and replaced the component, Ford Part# LX6Z-14290-PA. No warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem were observed before the shut-down.

Aug 12, 2022

Purchased new 7-22-2022. On 8-10-2022 drove 14 mi, parked for 2 hours, tried to start truck, message on dash said “stop safely now “, with red triangle, check engine, battery warning lights. Tried repeatedly to start truck waiting 15 minutes each time, wouldn’t start. Used ford pass on phone to call for tow. When tow arrived 30 minutes later the truck started like normal. Drove around parking lot while tow truck waited seemed normal so I drove home. Had dealer check 12v battery on 8-12 and it was fine. Made appointment for diagnostic testing for 8-22. Other owners have received “stop safely now” message while driving on highway, engine lost power and coasted to stop on side of road - obviously a serious safety concern.

Aug 12, 2022

Returning home from vacation. Stopped for lunch. Went back to vehicle and Vehicle was dead. After repeatedly hitting unlock button was able to unlock vehicle. Since I was aware of this potential issue I had a battery booster jump pack in the vehicle...but if you can't unlock the vehicle you are out of luck. Luckily after repeatedly hitting unlock...it eventually unlocked. When I got in I tried to start it but instead got a message saying "No Key Detected". I got my battery pack out and hooked it up...hit boost. Went to start the Mav and instantly it started. When I got ready to go, I could not move the dial from Park to Drive and still was getting the "No Key Detected" message. It took about 2 or 3 minutes for the key to be detected. Drove vehicle to dealership and and am awaiting repairs. Suspect this is a wiring harness issue that have been reported by numerous Maverick owners. Seems like a TSP/Recall is in order! Only have 1,155 miles on this new vehicle.

Aug 3, 2022

Had vehicle towed into shop because it was dead and jumping it couldn't sustain a charge. Dealer took a week to determine it was a DC converter problem and ordered part to replace. After replacement, it was determined it was a battery cable and has been backordered for 2 months. Parking brake error message was present randomly, otherwise no other warnings occurred.

Aug 1, 2022

I was driving on the highway at about 70 MPH when the truck gave me a "Powertrain Malfunction/Reduced Power" notification & the red battery light came on. The truck then had a "Pull Over Immediately" (Not 100% sure on the wording) notification on the dashboard and stopped accelerating. Once the notification popped up and the truck stopped accelerating, the air conditioning & power steering also stopped working. I was able to coast long enough to get over to the shoulder where I was able to call a tow truck. While waiting for the tow truck, the truck would not start, the hood latch would not open, and it was unable to shift gears so it could not be put in neutral to be towed.

Jul 22, 2022

Loose connection for positive cable on wiring harness under the hood causes intermittent complete failure of electrical system. Car is unable to start when the connection is loose without a jump.

Jul 20, 2022

Vehicle would not start due to electrical connection, check engine light on, all driver assist features disabled.

Jul 12, 2022

I went to use the vehicle. All electrical components were not working. Unable to unlock car doors, shift the vehicle to neutral. Dash has no illumination at all. Occurred on July 5 and had used the car earlier in the morning without any issues. I had to have the vehicle towed to the dealer. Tow truck able to jumpstart vehicle to move onto the flatbed. Upon arrival at the dealer and subsequent inspection, found fuse had blown from the jumpstart of the truck. After the fuse was replaced, the dealer found a negative terminal connection from the harness had broken at the flat section. The harness is on national backorder. Repair is still waiting to occur.

Jul 10, 2022

Vehicle is dead. Jump start, took to dealer. Defect in wiring harness. Wiring harness back ordered. Been without vehicle 9 days so far.

Jul 6, 2022

With the initial instance (it has happened 3 separate times), I was traveling on the interstate on the way back from Tennessee to Georgia and stepped on the accelerator (basically punched it) to get around a big rig, all of a sudden I get a "tow truck" icon on my dash and the accelerator is unresponsive, so I think I was in electric mode only if that. Fortunately, I was close to an exit and was able to coast to a stop in a parking lot. I put it in park, whereby the shifter dial then locked into park, could not change it. My wife read a blog on the internet (the owners manual is useless) to wait a few minutes and everything should work, that turned out to be true, so we were able to be on our way, but scary as heck to be on the highway and your vehicle suddenly shuts down. My Ford Pass app showed a "High Voltage Battery warning" message and also the MIL (check engine light came on solid and stayed on for at least another day, but eventually went out. This happened 2 other times, the exact same scenario, but this time light to moderate acceleration. I believe my safety was put at risk because the vehicle was rendered useless while traveling at high speeds on the highway. My dealer had it for 2 weeks, and said they read some transmission codes but tell me Ford doesn't know what to do to fix the issue at this point.

Jun 30, 2022

I shut off my Maverick to get out and get some water, when I got back in my truck, it had NO power. It was as if the battery was dead. I had it jump started and drove home. In the middle of a intersection, while turning, the truck shut off completely. NO power. When this happens, you have no emergency lights and can not put it in neutral to push it off of a road. If you are on a back road with no lights, you can't turn on the hazards nor push the vehicle off the road out of traffic. It was the wiring harness that went bad. My Maverick is at the dealer right now waiting for the part to come in. This is becoming a common issue for the Truck across the US. The dealer confirmed it was wiring harness. A cop jumped started the truck for me the second time. I had to have somebody follow me home as it kept dying in the middle of the road on the way home. I consider this a safety issue as you have no lights to keep from getting hit by another vehicle and no way to put it in neutral so you can get it out of the road. There were no warning lights or symptoms that it was going to fail, it just stopped working.

Jun 30, 2022

I returned from a short trip, 3 days to a truck that was completely dead. I received a notice via my ford mypass app that remote features were being shut off to conserve battery life. Upon arriving I could not open the door using the factory keypad, nor open the doors through the app. Required a call to Ford and tow truck driver broke into car to retrieve key that was left in the glove box. Car required a jump. After starting this hybrid, no engine combustion required, I drove approximately 20 miles and parked the truck. That night I received the warning again and started the car, ran it for 15 minutes then drove the truck to the dealership. After 9 days, dealership indicates that they replaced 12 v battery, and car is ready for pickup. Before I picked up the truck, I have the same low batter warning on the app and remote features have been turned off. I don't believe that the issue has been resolved and it is being reported by a large number of other Maverick owners on the follwing post https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/forum/threads/tracking-dead-hybrid-mavericks-reported-dealer-solutions-fixes.16862/.

Jun 28, 2022

After taking the car for a quick ride to the local park we came home and parked. When we tried to lock the car- nothing happened. The car was dead. Battery was tested and was fine. Car could not even be jump started to disengage the parking brake. Car has been at the dealership for over 3 weeks. The problem is a part that connects electrical to engine (winding basket) is defective. Not sure if this could have happened while the car was in motion? Scary thought.

Jun 24, 2022

On 6-1-22, our truck died in the driveway - it wouldn’t lock with the key fob. Ford assistance was called for a tow. Tow truck driver jumped our truck to load it onto the tow truck. Dealership it was towed to confirmed the battery wiring harness issue. We’re still waiting for the part to arrive but we did get a loaner vehicle yesterday (6-23-22).

Jun 23, 2022

Vehicle had a check engine light go on for voltage. At 4K miles. Later that day loss complete power nothing electrical worked and it had to be towed to dealership. Stayed at dealership service for over a week trying to diagnose it.

Jun 22, 2022

Total loss of electrical functions. Vehicle was unable to turn on, and non responsive leaving driver and passengers stranded. This can happen at any time, randomly. No warning lights or symptoms appeared. This has been happening to other drivers of Hybrid Mavericks.

Jan 11, 2022

When using remote start (cold mornings here) the truck will run for 15 minutes. Both inside and outside the vehicle I smell what seems like plastic burning. The last time it happened I looked under the hood while it was dark out and what appears to be a catalytic converter on the back side of the motor was glowing red hot. There are high voltage lines that run within inches of this (among other things) and I am concerned there is a fire risk.
