The 2022 Ford Maverick repeatedly experiences complete electrical system failures, including engine shutdown, loss of power steering, brakes, and the electronic parking brake, while driving at highway speeds, resulting in total loss of vehicle control and creating a life-threatening situation for the driver, passengers, and others on the road; prior warning signs included the 12-volt battery not staying charged and intermittent total electrical power loss, and while no warning lamps indicated imminent failure, the issue was reproduced and documented by a dealership that replaced the battery, performed a BCM relearn, and applied a software update, yet the problem persisted, leaving the vehicle undriveable and unsafe, requiring repeated jump-starts, and demonstrating a fundamental defect in the electrical and control systems; the vehicle is currently scheduled for further warranty diagnostics at a second dealership, and because prior warranty repairs failed to correct this repeat, safety-critical, and life-threatening defect, I request immediate manufacturer investigation, full warranty coverage, and evaluation for vehicle replacement under applicable Lemon Law or consumer protection remedies, as the repeated failure places lives at risk and the vehicle cannot be safely operated until fully corrected.

1)After sitting for 2 days the battery was drained or dead. The truck would not start. I jumped the truck and it started up. Every time I park the truck i get a warning that the battery is low and I should drive it to recharge the battery. I drive the truck but it will not recharge. 2) The check engine light comes on. I went to the auto parts and scanned for diagnostics. The scan came back as a fuel tank pressure sensor failure. 3) When I drive the truck it smells as if something is burning. 4) The fuel gage is not showing accurate reading. 5)The fuel door wont open unless I have the truck turned on and then it takes several minutes. 6) After driving on the freeway I came to a stop on the off rap before entering a main street and the truck died.

Vehicle lost all power while driving. This was due to a failure of the hybrid system. Created a dangerous situation as vehicle started coasting without power in neutral.

May 23, 2025

Loss of forward, propulsion due to a 12 V battery system failure. Repeated and frequent deep sleep mode. Loss of fuel mileage below manufacturer specifications.

Apr 7, 2025

My vehicle failed to start due to a now corrected recall issue. When it did not start I attempted to jump start the engine and found that the car is missing its positive jump terminal on the engine so it is impossible to jump the car. It was sent to a dealership for repair but they never corrected the issue. It is still missing.

I was driving along in slow traffic on the highway and lost ALL power to my truck and it just stop. No electrical, no drive. There is a recall for this but apparently it did not include my VIN.

Jan 5, 2025

Engine Service warning appeared this morning and the vehicle immediately lost power to a maximum of 20 mph. The same thing happened approximately 2.5 months ago. A Ford dealership technician checked it out could not find an issue and cancelled the check engine light. Both times this occurred on a busy road and could have led to a potential collision with another vehicle.

Just recently I've noticed that when the engine is running and I'm stopped or parked the truck will "lurch". Almost as if I'm trying to hit the gas while parked or holding the brakes. Since this has started, I've also noticed that from 25mph to 60/65mph there is a violent vibration ONLY under acceleration (20-25% on the power meter) while the engine is running. Issue worsens depending on the mode the truck is in (worse under sport, better under ECO/Slippery). Whole truck will shake, body, steering wheel and all. Not sure if these two issues are related? I'm not sure if these are considered to be powertrain or if it's the engine. Not sure if I could have it inspected upon request because I can't pin point any mechanical abnormalities visually. I feel my safety and others may be a concern because the unknown of the issue. I'm not sure if the vehicle is breaking down, will break down, lose power or whatever the case may be. The vehicle has been reported to Ford for these issues with no resolve. No warning lamps or messages. The issue appeared to come out of no where. Wasn't doing it one day, began doing it the next.

Nov 17, 2024

The engine will want to surge forward in a "pulsing" feel while stopped at a red light. No amount of braking force will keep the Ford Maverick from trying to lurch forward. It feels like someone is gently "pushing you from behind telling you to go..." This seems to happen when the engine is cold. Its done this since day one of ownership and it has now been nearly 3 years with no fix.

Issue: Shift SYS Fault, DTC P07E6 System: Transmission Description: Emergency parking brake failed to disengage (solenoid could be heard attempting to move), as a result the transmission would not shift out of park. Check engine light and multiple codes/warnings illuminated on dash. Vehicle could not be moved or shifted into neutral. Waited 10-15 minutes before 2nd attempt, parking brake still failed to disengage. Then waited for 3 hours for third attempt, at which point emergency brake successfully disengaged. Check engine light no longer lit and no codes/warnings present on dash. Nothing changed or was done to the truck between the 2nd and 3rd attempt. Reproduction: Will drop off at dealer for confirmation in coming weeks. Warnings: Engine check light, Shift SYS fault, DTC P07E6, See dealership -> all illuminated after parking brake attempted to disengage during 1st and 2nd attempt.

My vehicle completely shutdown while we were driving on interstate 15 doing 77 mph. When everything shut off we had no brakes and no way to put the hazards on. It’s literally died while we were driving 77 mph.

Vehicle has had a Powertrain failure three times in a month. This causes the vehicle to look up and lose power. Dealers can not figure it out and Ford has not provided any solutions. Been without vehicle for 6 weeks at this point. Malfunction causes all systems to fault and vehicle seizes up making it undriveable.

Jul 16, 2024

I was driving for about 10 minutes at speed 35 mph then noticed the car is in electric mode but unable to accelerate. It feels nothing happened when I depressed the gas pedal. The car came to a complete stop at traffic light but failed to accelerate when I pressed on the gas pedal. I turned off the car and started it back up and everything return to normal.

I have a 22 hybrid maverick with ~ 27,000. I was driving back home from out of town and I had already driven for a good two and a half hours. I was passing an 18 wheeler when suddenly my whole truck turned off. The dash, infotainment screen all black. I tried to turn on the hazards but nothing came on. The steering wheel was stiff and I was pressing the brakes as hard as I could but we were barely slowing down. I coasted across the right lane and into the shoulder/grass and finally came to a stop. I turned the truck off and on and a whole bunch of warnings and lights popped up. I turned it off again and when I turned it back on it was like everything was back to normal. I drove the rest of the way home ~ 50 mph. The truck felt awkward when switching from gas to electric and shook a bit when coming to stops. I will be calling the service dept tomorrow.

Engine lost power while driving. Could not go past 30mph after. Warning lights showed on dashboard of the engine and a wrench. Servce Engine soon warning also showed. This is the 2nd time happening. And this is the 2nd time to the dealership. They couldn't find the problem and gave it back to me.

Jun 14, 2024

On June 13th 2024 my Maverick suddenly lost power and all lights on dashboard lit up. Apparently this has been documented by others, and vehicle then went into LIMP MODE and was not responding to accelator pedal properly and would not move beyond 30mph. Engine light is still on, and my Ford App shows 3 messages: 1. SERVICE ENGINE SOON 2. POWERTRAIN SYSTEM FAILURE 3. COLLISION AVOIDANCE UNAVAILABLE

Jun 12, 2024

Lost engine power while driving. Only had electric power and could not accelerate to get out of the way of traffic. Able to use hazard lights and coast to safety. Turned off everything and turn on again, only to go a block and it did it again. Service engine alert came on.

Jun 10, 2024

I was driving on the highway at about 65 MPH. Without warning, the vehicle dashboard displayed “Selected Gear Will Engage at Lower Speed,” the vehicle shifted itself to neutral, the accelerator pedal stopped responding, and the vehicle began coasting to a stop. I had to avoid high speed highway traffic to make it to the side of the road. When I had slowed to about 5 MPH, the vehicle forcibly shifted to park, and engaged the parking brake on its own — causing an abrupt stop. I could not shift out of park. The check engine light, wrench icon, traction icon all illuminated, the chime sounded and a series of errors displayed: “Service Advance Trac” “Collision Prevention Unavailable” “Hill Start Unavailable” “Service Engine Soon” among others. After power cycling the vehicle, the warning messages and icons remained, but I could shift into drive. However, the vehicle wouldn’t travel above 30 MPH, and seemed to accelerate on its on, as if it were on cruise control set at 30 MPH. Abruptly stopping on the highway is very dangerous, and could have caused a serious accident. Unless there is a catastrophic failure (which there wasn’t) the vehicle should never uncontrollably stop, especially on the freeway.

Friday 6/7 I was driving my 2022 Ford Maverick at night and suddenly with no warning the dash went dark, there was a grinding noise and the truck completely shut down - engine, electrical, lights, everything. Luckily, I was on a residential street and was able to get it off the road because the flashers would not work. My safety was definitely put at risk - I was in a totally disabled truck on the side of the road after dark with no working lights of any kind, including emergency flashers. There were no warning lights in the truck prior to shut down, and no messages received via FordPass at that time - the Ford app actually showed all systems as "good". I had the truck towed to the Ford dealer that same night. Saturday morning 6/8 I received a message via the Ford App "Remote features disabled to preserve battery". Monday morning 6/10 I received a message via the Ford App "Service Engine Soon Warning". All while the truck is sitting in the dealer service lot. Background - Another ongoing issue - 3 times in the last month - May 3, May 8, and the morning of June 7th - I've been stranded and had to call AAA to come and jumpstart the truck - all 3 instances I was running errands, would shut the truck off to run in a store only to come out and the truck is totally dead. When it happened on May 8th, I received a warning via the Ford App "Service Engine Soon Warning" and took it into the Ford Service center on May 9th.

I got recall notices in the mail in May. Unfortunately Ford of Kirkland (WA) Could not schedule me for an update until July 25th, that is their first opening because of all the recalls. On [XXX], 2024 at [XXX] I was traveling NW on [XXX] from Yakima WA to Ellensburg WA. I was traveling about 75 mph when the car shifted itself to a lower gear, then lights started flashing all over the dash for numerous things. the monitor stated something about low gear, service engine light on, diagnostic was being run, all in a matter of seconds. As I was looking to see if I could get over the truck's collision brakes activated even though there was no one in front of me. I lurched forward while my truck was slamming on the brakes out of the blue. I managed to make it to the side of the highway and shut off the truck. If anyone had been behind me they would have slammed right into me. This would have been a high speed rear end collision and I as well as others could easily have been killed! This was needless to say, terrifying! A tow truck came and towed the truck to Valley Ford in Yakima WA, I haven't yet heard what the analysis of this total system failure was. I waited in the truck for an hour for a tow along side a very busy highway with numerous large semi's passing me less that a couple feet from the driver's side where I was seated. This should NEVER happen to anyone. Ford cannot manufacture a vehicle that is this inherently dangerous! It's just a miracle no one was right behind me or there would have been major injuries, and it would not have been my fault, or their fault. It would have been Ford's fault! These trucks need to be taken off the roads. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

While driving the vehicle, multiple error messages popped up on the dash and resulted in an immediate slow down and unable to accelerate by pressing the gas pedal. The car would then auto accelerate without pressing the gas pedal to 35 mph. Only thing that has recently happened was I had taken vehicle to dealer to perform some recalls.

May 18, 2024

The Maverick unexpectedly switched to limp mode and had engine failure while in motion. The Maverick would not go over approximately 25mph unless coasting faster on a downhill. On some uphills, it struggled to maintain 10mph. Turning the vehicle off and back on again did not alleviate the issue. Approximately two months ago, I started to have a check engine light on. It took the dealership two months to get my Maverick in for service. The service finally occurred this past Monday/Tuesday (13-14 May). Ford thought they fixed the issue which they had not. They also did the current recalls on the truck. This most recent highly dangerous issue happened after those recall software updates. The FordPass Alert: "The powertrain control module has detected the engine timing chains have exceeded 95% of their useful life and requires service now. The control system invokes a symptom of limited power." This is a common issue amongst Maverick Hybrid owners and Ford is not doing anything to fix the issue. Many Maverick owners are having it happen multiple times and at speeds up to 70 or 75 mph. it is preferable that Ford be forced to take responsibility and fix the issue before people are serious injured or killed. Thank you.

While driving on the highway my car randomly went into limp mode rapidly and nearly caused an accident. I do know the code was U1011. It is a PCM fault stating the PCM and the engine has lost connection. It has been noted to turn on and off randomly and cannot be replicated until it reappears. Dealerships have been giving the run around that it goes away so it’s not a problem. Everyone to include me is having the problem after getting a recent PCM update recall done. My local ford deal shops even say they can see the fault happens, but will not do anything to solve the issue. This fault puts me and everyone in the road as risk randomly sending my car into limp mode without warning or signs.

•My saga continues driving my Maverick hybrid to NY to visit my mom for Mother’s Day hoping the new Battery/Smart Junction Box that my Ford Dealer replaced on 4/9 was the culprit in the 2 shutdowns experienced on [XXX]. •[XXX] Maverick shutdown 3x driving on highway around 70 mph during 400-mile trip. Had to wait approx. 20-minutes each time for engine to cool off and reset from electric mode to continue on. NY Ford dealer diagnosed on 5/13 and reports: U1010 is present , Hybrid Powertrain Control Module is suspected to be bad They said it would take a few days to get a new PCM from Ohio warehouse. I couldn’t wait and had to return to MD for work on 5/14. •[XXX] Shutdown 4x driving on highway around 70 mph during 400-mile return trip. Had to wait approx. 20-minutes each time for engine to cool off and reset from electric mode to continue on. Fortunately, no accidents and I was always able to find a safe spot on the side of the road to pull over to and wait for 20 minutes or so. •[XXX] Received Ford Safety recall notice 23S27 for Software to repair 2022-2023 Mavericks to update the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) free of charge (parts and labor). Note NY Ford Dealer recommended replacing PCM vs. repairing or updating it. Is there a definitive way to test which is best, replace or repair? •[XXX] Just found this at Check for Recalls: Vehicle, Car Seat, Tire, Equipment | NHTSA dated May 3, 2024 Manufacturer Recall Number 24S33 Both I and the NY Ford Dealer were unaware of this recall, 24S33 or they could had tried updating my PCM. Drove my car home and parked in my driveway with no issues. 9 hours later when I was about leaving for work, started the car but car won't start. I jumpstarted the car then all of a sudden the (Drive) Shift knob light was flashing, warnings started flashing, hill start assist not available, service vehicle soon, pre collision assist not available, service advance Trac, and parking brake applied automatically and total loss of power. When I pressed on the gas, it wouldn’t go and no throttle response. When I let off the brake and was NOT pressing the gas, it would start to accelerate all on its own up to about 28/29 mph all on its own, acting like it was in cruise control

May 11, 2024

On [XXX] my husband was traveling on [XXX] in Pennsylvania between mile markers [XXX] and [XXX], on cruise control driving 75mph. As he was starting up a steep incline, the Maverick (without warning) started to lose speed, went into LIMP mode (power to engine failed ) and the dashboard lit up with several different errors. He was in heavy traffic and had to swerve to the left median to pull over to safety, narrowly avoiding an accident. He did a vehicle inspection to ensure all fluids were still intact, wires were secure, etc. and did not detect anything wrong. He let the Maverick sit for 15 minutes and started the vehicle. The Maverick started with no issues, so he assumed it was a fluke and continued driving to reach his destination of Upstate NY from West Virginia. Before he could reach the NY border, his Maverick suddenly went into LIMP mode again while traveling up another incline on cruise control (also at 75mph). This time he was able to swerve to the right median to avoid causing an accident. He followed the same steps as before, and the Maverick turned on again without issue. He continued his drive to NY and was able to successfully make it without using cruise control. He brought it to our local Ford Dealership in Hagerstown, MD (the Ford dealerships in NY did not have capacity to assess the Maverick as we were only in NY for a couple of days). Our local Ford Dealership was not able to find anything wrong with the Maverick and said because they could not generate the same errors there was nothing they could do. We did show the the history of the errors as it's all contained on the Ford App, but they dismissed it as they couldn't figure it out. This happened again on [XXX] driving down [XXX] between mile markers [XXX]-[XXX], in a construction zone. He was thankfully able to pull over, narrowly avoiding getting rammed by a semi truck behind him. Our dealership refuses to help us fix the error. I was driving down the freeway and my truck when into reduced power mode, displaying " Powertrain malfunction/Reduced power, engine service soon, and precollision assistance not available". This ended up slowing me rapidly from 65 down to under 20 miles. I almost had a semi slam into the back of me missing me by inches.

May 7, 2024

While driving at approximately 40mph, the 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid suddenly went into "Limp Mode" with speed instantly dropping to approximately 10mph. Did not lose power, the dashboard stayed lit but showed no warnings. Vehicle would not accelerate above 10mph. This happened without warning. I pulled over and shut off the vehicle then restarted it and after that, it operated fine. If I had been driving on a highway at a higher speed I could have had a major accident. Currently trying to get a service appointment, waiting on a call back from the Ford dealer Service Manager. Again, there were no warnings or error messages before or after the problem occurred.

May 6, 2024

While driving the vehical at 70 mph it suddenly lost power and all of the warning lights on the dash started to light up, was able to pull over to the side of the road safely. Turned the car off and opened up the door, closed the door and started it back up and the instrument cluster continued to throw signals. Had it towed to the dealership and am awaiting a response.

On 4/27/24 Vehicle went into limp mode after driving for less than 90 seconds. Multiple various errors messages (powertrain, hill assist, collision, check engine) lit up, vehicle was accelerating on its own when in drive. No error messages prior to this incident. Similar incident happened around 3/10/23 while at Ford service for recall software updates but issue was not confirmed at that time. Vehicle is at Ford service now for second incident. Ford service states when the vehicle got a recall completed for the SOBDCM update, it triggered the vehicle to not update fully and causes the warning messages and can force the vehicle to go into limp mode and lose power.

Apr 27, 2024

3/28/24 My 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid’s engine shut down and lost acceleration driving 70-80 miles an hour on a highway going through hills after 100 miles. Vehicle displayed a bunch of dashboard alerts as it soon lost all acceleration and would only drive slowly in Electric mode. I pulled over and tried again, but it was stuck in electric mode with barely any acceleration and displayed Check engine, service vehicle, bring to the dealer, etc., and a few other alerts. I shut off the engine and tried it again 5 min later, and it was still in electric mode. I shut it off again and waited around 15 minutes while trying to get roadside service using my Ford App, which showed local dealers but I could not find any towing service. Then, after the truck cooled down, ~15 minutes, it started up fine, and I could drive it. The engine shut down again after about another hour, displaying the same dashboard alerts as seen earlier. I pulled way over, shut everything down, and waited 10-15 min or so , and it started and ran fine to get me home in 30 min or so. I brought it to the Ford dealer the next day, 3/29/24, it took them 8 business days, and they said it was fixed on 4/9/24; they replaced the Battery/ Smart junction box.

Apr 25, 2024

I had just filled up my truck with gas and started driving to work today and the truck went into limp mode. It flashed a low gear warning, then started to slowly stop, all of the system alarms went off, including the check engine light. There were so many pop-up's I can't recall them all. I was able to pull over and start slowing down before it engaged the emergency brake and I experienced a hard stop. I turned the truck off and back on with no help. I turned the truck off again and opened the door, then shut the door and turned the truck back on and the brake was then turned off but check engine light still on. When I put the truck in drive it would start to accelerate without me pressing the gas. I pulled over again and turned the truck off again and back on. This time the truck behaved more normally but the check engine light is still on. Not sure if this is related to last recall service I recieved.

Apr 25, 2024

On April 1, 2024, while using cruise control going uphill on the interstate in heavy traffic, the truck went into LIMP mode without warning, and multiple lights appeared on the dashboard. Once I swerved over to the side of the road I turned the truck off, let it sit for 15 minutes and turned it back on. Turning it back on allowed the truck to get out of LIMP mode, but the check engine light remained. This happened several times on my drive, but I was able to finally finish my drive several hours later. Next day, all lights on the dashboard were off. The ford dealership could not determine the source of the issue or recreate the issue. This is a major concern as this issue put my safety at risk and could have caused a major accident on a major interstate, putting others’ safety at risk as well. On April 23, 2024, I went to start the truck, and the battery was dead. I confirmed no lights were on to drain the battery, and from April 23, 2024 forward, my power windows randomly stop working.

After shutting the vehicle off and removing the key from the ignition the ICE engine continues to run for a bit. The steering wheel display is also lit up and I had the door open to the vehicle. I opened the hood and confirmed the engine is running. This has happened a few times so far. Sometimes the display that shows the MPH and other info goes out but the engine still runs. I've also had occasions when the key is removed, the engine is running and then shuts off. Pressing the gas pedal, the engine comes to life. If I hold the pedal down the ICE engine runs, remove my foot from the gas and the ICE engine shuts off.

Recently got a couple recalls done and then yesterday while I was driving back home I Ford chimes twice and then see a plethora of service lights and dash warnings. Completely lost power on the freeway pulled over from originally being in the left lane in time. But could of been a lot worse if I wasn't coming back at 11pm. Restarted the truck and it let me go a max of 20mph all the way home (luckily I was near my exit) flooring it the entire time. Then after an hour of sitting at home I started it up again to surprisingly what felt like full power again but with a check engine light.

Apr 22, 2024

On April 22, 2024 my truck had a loss of power foe the second time while driving on the interstate with my family. There was no warnings or anything, the truck simply lost power and I had to pull off the road at which point it went into limp mode. I had several lights on my dash, Mai ly the check engine light and my mobile app recorded a fault with the drive train. This is now the second time this has happened in a few months. I have taken it to the dealer both times and they've told me that nothing is wrong with my truck. I explained that it is extremely dangerous but they said they can't do anything because the truck isn't reporting any issues. Please put pressure on ford to fix this. It is getting out of control.

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, his girlfriend who was occupying the front passenger's side seat, informed him that there was an abnormal odor inside the vehicle. Additionally, the contact sustained severe headaches while driving. The contact drove to the hospital, where he was informed that there was an elevated level of carbon monoxide in his blood, and he had sustained carbon monoxide poisoning after two hours of exposure. The contact also stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the heater exchange needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 70-75 MPH with the Adaptive Cruise Control engaged, a message indicating that the gear was changed forcibly was displayed, and the Eco mode was disengaged, and the engine stalled. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road. The messages "Service Advancetrac", "Service Engine Soon" "Pre-collision Assist Not Available" and "Hill Assist Not Available" were displayed on the instrument panel. Additionally, the messages "Power Train System Fault" and "Collision Assist Unavailable" were displayed on the mobile app. The traction control warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after several attempts and a Police Officer assisted the contact in driving to the other side of the road. The contact was able to continue driving at 45 MPH. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the failure could not duplicated because the check engine warning light was not illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 18,000.

I was driving in town going about 20 MPH when I approached and intersection and stepped on the brakes. The brakes locked up, multiple warning lights, messages, audible alarms went off. I though the truck died and I put it in park and turned off the key. Then I turned the key back on, all the lights and warnings came back on, but it also said ready to drive. I was not able to accelerate using the gas pedal, truck was moving slowly on its own, it gained some speed but only ran on the electric motor. No gas engine. I got 3 blocks to my destination very slowly and shut the truck off. I had to go inside to do some work and when I came back about an hour later I turned the truck on and all the alerts were gone except the check engine light. It did run normal then. After calling the dealership they said to bring it in so they could look at it. I left it there and they called later saying they had pulled multiple error codes, did not tell me what they were, they cleared all the codes and drove it and said it did not act up for them and said I could come pick it up. I do not want to drive it because I feel like this could happen again at any time and if I were driving at a higher speed or on a interstate and this happened who knows who could have been hurt. This Maverick is my daily driver for work ect. but I will not drive it unless I absolutely have to right now. I got no answers from the dealership. Before this, no warning lights had been on.

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V380000 (Engine) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated while driving at 65 MPH, the engine unexpectedly shut off. The Power Train Malfunction, Service Engine Soon, Reduced Power Warning, Pre-collision Assist Not Available, and Active Trac Not Engaged messages were displayed. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and disconnected and reconnected the negative battery cable to reboot the computer system. The vehicle was able to be restarted, and only the message Service Engine Soon was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where diagnostic trouble codes U1011 and U1028 were retrieved; however, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

Driving at 65mph and the vehicle began to lose power. Messages displayed on instrument cluster "Service engine soon" "Pre-Collision Asist not available" "Power train malfunction/reduced power" vehicle started losing power and was unable to maintain speed. Check engine light appeared as this was occurring. This occurred in traffic and other drivers did not expect this. I was able to pull over to the side of the road and shut the vehicle down. Once I started the truck again the check engine light remained on but I was able to accelerate back to 60mph.

Apr 15, 2024

When coming to a stop on a 25 mph road, saw a cascade of warnings come up, including: Hill start assist not available, precollision assist not available, service AdvanceTrac, service vehicle soon, check engine light, service light, traction control light. Once stopped the car turned the parking brake on and requested that I put it into park. After putting the car into park and turning off the parking brake the car began to accerate on it's own, unresponsive to how hard I pressed the accelerator (limp mode?). I was able to get the car back home on residential roads.

My vehicle has been issued recall 23S27 by Ford initially noted in May of 2023. A resolution was to be available in Oct, or 4th quarter of 2023. That did not happen. I received another recall notice from Ford saying the recall would be resolved in the first quarter of 2024. While completing my taxes on April 15, I remembered this and also that no action or repair has been detailed or explained. Thought I would fire off a complaint to NHTSA because of the lack of action on this recall. Please advise what, if anything, is happening to resolve this issue.

My 22 Lariat Hybrid lost power last Wednesday while I was driving it. I believe the engine was still running, but I couldn't accelerate. I parked, turned the truck off, then back on, and drove home. I was able to drive it to the dealership the next day, no problem, It's at the dealership right now. I haven't heard anything yet.

Apr 14, 2024

I was going 70 mph on the interstate when I suddenly lost power. The engine wouldn’t respond. I had to quickly change lanes to get off of the interstate. Luckily there was space otherwise I could have been in an accident. The dash gave a warning of Advance Trac issue. The D on the selector was flashing. I got stopped and turned off the truck. Luckily after I gathered myself I searched and found it was a sensor issue and the truck did start and I drove 2 hours home. I was very scary though not having control of the vehicle at 70 mph.

Apr 12, 2024

I was driving [XXX] on [XXX] around [XXX] yesterday morning north . Without warning I lost control of the accelerator and the speed diminished to around 35 MPH. Several warning lights flashed onto the dashboard saying systems were failing. Check engine light came on and a "wrench" symbol appeared. The light on the transition control dial for "D" started flashing. I was in a construction area with no shoulder when it happened. I was able to creep into a niche on a partial turnoff around .5 miles later. I shut the car off and restarted it. Same problems. I noticed I was .25 miles from an exit and waited for traffic to clear from behind. Managed to get to 10-15 MPH and up the exit with traffic blaring around me. Parked at a McDonald's and wait for a tow truck that never came after 2.5 hours. Made an appointment with nice folks at Classic Ford in Columbia. I was told tow truck might be another 2.5 hours so I tried to restart car. This time only the "check engine" light stayed on. I drove the car slowly in electric mode around the parking lot and it seemed safe at lower speeds. I mapped out a "less the 45 MPH" route to Classic Ford and was able to reach there without further incident. However, the "check engine" light remained on the entire trip. The car is now being checked by Classic Ford. I have had no diagnosis yet. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Driving down highway at normal speed. Car lost all engine power, still on but indicated gear shift was not in drive. Pulled off to side of highway. Put drive in park. Dash came up with a bunch of warnings. Turned off. Turned back on. Same warnings happened. Put it in drive and it just start going forward without any input. Was injured in power. Drove it to safe spot. Turned off called for tow. Tried turning it back on and returned to normal but check engine light was on. Very unsafe to loose power in the middle of the highway. My two friends died like that!

Apr 6, 2024

While driving at cruising speed on freeway/interstate, experienced sudden and unexpected loss of power and multiple error codes, including "gear selected will engage at low speed" and "service advancetrac", together with flashing service engine soon light. This occurred approximately 3 weeks after completing service recalls for power train control module (23E09) and turn signal outage detection failure and instrument panel cluster IPC Illumination

Apr 4, 2024

Took my maverick for the system softward update and when I drove it after the update my truck suddenly had a loss of total power while driving on the freeway at 70mph. The dashboard cluster had all the lights come on check engine, abs ect light up and I had limit power 5mph enough to get my to the side of the freeway and all of a sudden the brake engaged and the truck jolted to a stop. I took the truck back to the dealer and they uploaded the system update again and released the truck back to me and a couple of days later the same thing happened.

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that while driving the vehicle in a parking lot at approximately 10 MPH, the engine shut off and the vehicle shifted into park(P) independently. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle; however, the vehicle shuddered while in motion. The contact turned the vehicle off and restarted it after 15 minutes, and the vehicle operated as needed, however, the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the residence where it stayed for 2 days. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the check engine light was no longer illuminated. The dealer stated that the failure could not be duplicated; however, the manufacturer application showed the messages, "Pre-Collision Assist Not Available", "Service Engine Soon Warning", and "Power Train Malfunction/ Reduce Speed". The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,473.

Engine failed while driving on highway. No noises, just check engine and multiple other warnings on instrument panel turned on. The vehicle lost power but would still drive at about 25 mph. I was able to stop the car in a safe place and after turning it off for 10 minutes it started up again like normal.

Apr 2, 2024

I brought my 2022 Ford Maverick hybrid to Franklin Ford dealership on 10/2/23 for repair with battery issues I was having previously. At random times the car would not turn on from start despite the battery testing at full power. Franklin Ford installed software updates they said resolved the power issue and I drove off the lot with the car on 10/7. 15 minutes later I was driving on the highway at 70 mph and the entire dash panel lost power. I tried to accelerate and the engine had no power as well. Fortunately I was safely able to move to the break down lane and coast into a highway exit. Since the car had no power I removed the key and tried restarting which worked successfully. My engine light was on and I received about 10 engine and powertrain warnings in my Ford mobile app. This was a major and life-threatening malfunction that the dealership had no explanation for and neither did my case worker at Ford Customer Service. I had owned the car for less than 12 months at the time and it was extremely concerning knowing that the car could now shut off at a moments notice while driving. I returned the vehicle to the same Franklin Ford dealership where it received the software update that seemed to put the vehicle into failure. Their solution was to reroute the wiring harness through the engine since it was previously exposed to the wheel well and had corroded the external layer of the harness. I'm submitting this report because I have seen dozens of similar cases with the same year and model as me. As a first time customer of Ford this has been a nightmare experience.

Freeway driving - normal conditions. Vehicle suddenly loses most power and all the warning lights appear. After powering off for a couple minutes then it will act normal with check engine light on. This happens multiple times in a couple hundred mile drive.

Mar 31, 2024

I experienced a loss of engine power/propulsion at 71 mph. There were no warning lights, messages or chimes to indicate something was wrong. I only noticed I was losing speed when the cruise control went to the standby/cancelled state from the 71 mph set point. The accelerator pedal was completely unresponsive. I coasted to the side of the freeway and performed a key cycle by powering the vehicle off, opening and closing the driver’s door to put the modules to sleep. Once the instrument panel cluster and center stack screens went dark, I restarted the vehicle and was able to proceed with my trip. It’s worth noting that I recently had the instrument panel recall repair performed which was a reflash of the IPC module. Other Maverick drivers have reported similar incidents after Ford 24C01/NHTSA 24V140 was “fixed.” I will be reporting this to the manufacturer as well.

One week after having recall [XXX] completed on [XXX] driving on [XXX] at about 70 miles per hour my truck slowed down to 10 miles an hour with my dashboard lighting up with a slew of warning lights blinking like crazy. I was able to get to the side of the road before it conked out all the way. Luckily my wife and did not get rammed into. Service engine now, powertrain failure, will not go into gear at this speed, collision assist warning lights all came on and were blinking. This was [XXX]. Luckily somehow I got the computer rebooted and drove home very carefully. I took it to dealer the following Monday, they had it for 2 days but warning lights were not on so they gave it back to me with nothing rectified. One week later this happened again on [XXX] a smaller highway, same warning lights but at a slower speed. Once again I got the computer to reboot but had to hold my foot on the brake because vehicle wanted to take off and the speed limit was 35. I took it into the same dealer the next day [XXX] and it has been their since. Today is March 29. The dealer finally was able to get Ford to admit this recall screwed up some software and they have no fix yet. No one should go ahead and get this recall done because someone is going to get killed. 2022 Maverick shuts down without warning. Driving at highway speeds, 65mph, the car simply loses all power. This started happening after factory recall work was completed on 3-11-24. I have stranded 7 times on the shoulder.

Mar 25, 2024

After driving about 500 ft, check engine light appeared, propulsion stopped immediately and I was only able to pull off road with momentum. Fortunately, I was at a driveway. Otherwise, I would have been required to park in the road (due to steep shoulders) on a two lane road. If I had been followed closely by a heavy vehicle, it probably would have rear-ended me since the propulsion quit so abruptly. After I turned truck off and restarted, it had enough propulsion to return 500 ft home at about 10 mph. -Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. No inspections performed other than dealer for repair/reset. -Dealer reset was done and no further problems noted. No replacement parts needed. Dealer said they had one other Maverick with this problem.

Powertrain malfunction/reduced power, pre-collision assist not available, service engine soon warning, truck went into limp mode and was a hazard by reducing power and speed which cause a tariff hazard

Mar 24, 2024

Vehicle suddenly stopped accelerating while l was driving at 70 mph on a freeway and would not accelerate beyond 35 mph. Multiple warnings started flashing on dashboard - Powertrain malfunction / Reduced Power, Service engine soon, Pre-collision assist not available. I stopped on the shoulder, switched off engine, waited for 5 minutes and restarted engine then all warnings were gone and l was able to drive fine. But this was very scary experience as it was very dangerous to suddenly slow down from 70 mph to 35 mph in middle of fast traffic, l was lucky that there was no accident. Just few days before this incident, l had got few recalls repaired at Ford dealership that included updates to Power Control Module software.

Mar 23, 2024

While driving, the car severely jerked and all the lights on the dash lit up. I received the errors “Powertrain failure”, “vehicle in low gear mode”, “pre collision assist not available” and “service engine soon”. I quickly lost all power and was completely unable to accelerate. I happened to be going down hill so I coasted to a clear area where I could safely stop. After coming to a stop the car could not move forward and needed to be towed. I have not received any errors prior to this. However, I did recently complete a recall that involved a powertrain software update.

Mar 23, 2024

Vehicle lost all power while driving on the freeway. Had to pull over, find a safe place to park and while doing that, the engine sounded like a diesel engine.

Mar 21, 2024

We have been informed of this safety recall since june of last year and still do not have a solution for it. We have been parking outside to mitigate fire risk. The ford dealer in Olathe KS and Shawnee KS have both been unable to alleviate this risk for our vehicle.

Mar 20, 2024

While traveling on the highway at approximately 75mph the instrument cluster began to flash warnings, (Selected gear will be changed to when speed slows down, precollision assist not available, service engine soon) the accelerator pedal was unresponsive, and the vehicle began to slow. I parked the vehicle, shut the engine off, and restarted. upon restarting the vehicle would only move at approximately 10mph, the accelerator pedal was still unresponsive. I then parked the vehicle and called for a tow truck to take the vehicle to the dealership.

Mar 19, 2024

Yes, I was driving around 75 mph [XXX] in Thousand Oaks, Ca and I lost power to the engine. No acceleration from the gas pedal. Was able to turn hazards on and make it off freeway. This issue now has happened over 5 times at all speeds. Truck is currently with Ford. Also this issue never happened until Ford fixed the CV axles that went bad. First time it lost power was the night I picked up from dealership from them fixing cv axles. They also did some recall updates with codes. I can say this is a very dangerous situation when losing power driving on a California freeway. Not having my truck is also causing me many issues with work and clients. The truck is my lifeline. I was able to pull over and after waiting several minutes was able to continue driving with the check engine light on. Took it back to the dealer and was told nothing was wrong. It has happened 2 more times dyeing at 65mph. 3-13-24 and 3-19-24

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer for recall repairs, of which three were completed. While driving 70 MPH on a five-lane interstate, the navigation screen began to ding, and alerts and messages were displayed. The service track was offline, the incline assist was offline, and the vehicle failed to accelerate above 20 MPH and went into LIMP Mode. The driver pulled over to the side of the road. The contact reset the battery and continued to drive. The service light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer, who stated that the failure was not related to the recalls that were completed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. After approximately four days of driving at unknown speeds, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to another local dealer, Wyatt Johnson Ford (646 Thompson Ln., Nashville, TN 37204), who stated there were no codes and was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The dealer's recommendation was to download and update the software and test drive the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 29,781.

After having two recalls done on 2/29 the next day my vehicle dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree. There was a message about low gear, the shifter was blinking, I lost collision assist, traction control, and something called bill start. I was able to pull over and shut it off. When I restarted a minute later it accelerated on its own with no input from me. Braking worked but it was slowly moving up in speed.

Mar 12, 2024

The dealer said a hybrid part that transfers power failed. I was starting from a stoplight at a busy intersection and lost power and a warning popped up saying to turn my engine off immediately, luckily I was able to coast into a gas station. If I was on the highway it could have been catastrophic.

Mar 12, 2024

Just had a recall completed related to software programming in the past 3 weeks. Since then this has occured twice. While driving at highway speeds the vehicle quickly lost/reduced power and slowed down to 20 mph and produced a message that stated " Powertrain malfunction/Reduced power, engine service soon, and precollision assistance not available". This caused me to almost be rear ended and get into an accident with other vehicles on the road. It likely would have resulted in an accident/injury if not for light traffic that day. Ford has stated they cannot reproduce the issue.

Mar 12, 2024

Today I was driving on the highway when the precollision alert came on with no vehicles in front of me. About 5 minutes later I received a series of error messages and the vehicle went into a limo mode where it automatically drove at 20 MPH with no accelerator input from the driver. The following errors popped up on my screen. Check engine light Power train light (wrench)/reduced power Brake light pre-collision light/pre-collision unavailable Hill assist message Will engage in gear selected at low speed. Pulled over, shut it off, turned it back on, put in drive and it started accelerating on its own but only up to about 20mph, stopped and shut it off again. Turned back on and all the messages and light disappeared except check engine light remained on.

Mar 11, 2024

After having recalls worked on, my truck became completely inoperable. The first failure warning was a message that said "Gear will engage at low speed." I lost the ability to control acceleration. I then got messages for "Powertrain malfunction" "Pre-collision assist not available" "Hill start assist not available" "Service AdvanceTrak" "Service vehicle soon" "Check Engine." Came to a stop. Truck then began accelerating on its own. Being unable to control the acceleration of my vehicle was scary and dangerous. The auto-acceleration was very unsettling, causing me to jerk back and forth by applying the brake to limp home. If this had happened on the highway, it would have been very bad news. This issue occurred twice. The first time the dealer released it and said it was fixed. The second time they released it without doing anything. The vehicle has been inspected by Ford Mechanics exclusively. No prior warnings occurred. The problem appeared seemingly out of nowhere. The truck drove perfectly for 49,000 miles. The day after the recalls were performed, it was inoperable. A week after getting it back, the failure happened again, this time stranding me in another city.

Mar 4, 2024

While towing my boat down the interstate my truck lost all power from the engine and the dash began flashing with all sorts of errors. There was zero warning of this. Thankfully, I was safely able to get to the side of the interstate thankfully but I was basically dead in the water. The truck would sort of drive on its own, no input from me at all, it would just start moving if I let off the brakes and get up to about 35mph. The dash had the check engine light on, ABS light, and the transmission light on. The following messages came up on the screen; service engine, service advancetrac, hill start assist disabled, and the pre-collision assist was disabled. Thankfully no one was injured but it was incredibly dangerous that the vehicle lost all power in 70+ mph traffic, especially while towing a boat.

Engine completely fails while driving at highway speeds. Press on accelerator and no power. However Electronics, dash etc, are still on. It has happened 6 times in 2 weeks. Maverick has 26K miles. Each time I have had to coast to a safe shoulder or exit without any ability to accelerate. No warning lights, messages or other symptoms prior to occurrence. I have had it happen in "Normal" mode while using cruise control and lane assist. I have had it happen in "Normal" mode without using lane assist or cruise control. When it does happen, warning light says pull to safety, and check engine light remains on. I Am able to brake, place car in park, turn off car, restart, check engine light remains on and then am able to drive briefly again. It then happens again. Originally happened on Feb 14, 2024, then again on Feb 22, 2024, and then 4 times on February 25, 2024. Have taken back to dealer each time. Dealer cannot find anything associated with Code readings. Dealer is unable to duplicate. Ford has been unresponsive in providing any service bulletin. I am not the only Maverick Hybrid vehicle experiencing this. An outstanding engine failure and engine fire recall remains without resolution from Ford. I have given them permission to drive vehicle 100 miles, as that is when it first occurs. My vehicle is not safe to drive. My daughter and I were almost killed on high speed highway when the engine failed and 18 wheeler barreling down behind us. Ford has offered no solution or steps to compensate for this danger.

Ford is refusing to actually fix the engine fire problem on the 22 Ford Maverick hybrid that I own and it keeps saying that they are going to have an update available in December they did this before couple months back instead it was going to be in October they keep changing the date and I'm having to drive around risking my life in a vehicle that could catch on fire and explode they even tell me not to park in the garage this is ridiculous when are they going to fix this problem or how do I go about getting them to at least of knowledge this. They have also damaged trim pieces in the vehicle while removing trim to replace air bags, now seat belt no longer works correctly

In May 2023, a recall was placed against my vehicle without a remedy. The recall is about premature engine failure and the possibility of engine combustion. The remedy was supposed to be ready by October 2023, but is not yet available. I have never gotten an update since the initial recall information. The recall says that loud engine clanking sounds are possible engine failure sounds. I hear those sounds often when shifting from gas to electric modes. I have been driving still knowing this for 6 months and am worried for my safety due to this recall and the lack of timely remedy.

This has been a recall issue since I initially bought the vehicle brand new. I am active duty military and need this truck shipped to my next duty station and the shipping partner stated it won't ship cars that need recalls. Currently there is no planned action for this recall yet and it's estimated time for repairs states October 2023. It is now coming into the middle of November 2023 and no fix as of yet. Was going about 20 in a residential setting with nobody around and the truck locked the brakes and forward collision warning started flashing on the screen. It was pretty scary seeing there was nothing to hit.

I got a letter from FORD about a 22C20 Recall of the side curtain airbag. January 2023 And I got a letter in the mail from Ford May 24 2023 and it says your 22C20 recall part is ready. I got an appointment from ford frontier June 1 2023 and when the dealer Service Advisor Jesus Labrada told me sorry, we don’t have a part for airbags. He told me the left side and right-side airbags need to be changed and we have just one side. He doesn’t take my car, he told me please call every 10 days to ask if we have a part or not. June 7 2023 I emailed Michael Marshall about the 22C 20 recall part. Do you have it and I got back to me and he said No part for recall yet. June 2023, I got another letter from Ford and Customer Satisfaction Program 22B39 about the vehicle, it may be possible a 12V battery connection may become loose, resulting in a no- start condition. June 2023, I got another letter from Ford about 23S27 on your vehicle, the engine could fail prematurely, in the event of an engine failure. And the letter says part may be available October 2023. Right now, I am not using this car, it’s just sitting in my driveway. It’s not safe for me, if engine fails and if I crash airbags are not working, I don’t want to make a risk to get me or someone else in the car to get a injury or die. I would like to return this Ford Maverick Truck for a full refund.

Parked in front of garage turn off and knew something was not right. truck loss all power . was dead ,,completely dead. The next day I was leaving for a trip. called for tow and tow could not jump it. truck would not go into neutral. Hybrid electric transmission would not go into neutral. I left for trip came back and still dead. had to call for another tow, tried to jump will not jump or turn over. would not go into neutral. could not push truck or unlock or turn steering wheel. this is a major safety issue. If you kid is in the truck you can not open the truck. If the truck is on fire and your kid is in the truck. you can not open the truck!. if the truck died at Rail road track. died on freeway , or when in traffic your doomed. It had to be put on four wheel dolly and towed to dealer at dealer over 30 days. still has a fire recall ford does not have a fix for. heat exchanger, hybrid cable, battery changed and dont feel safe to drive it.

As I was driving and began to slow down the vehicle switched from gas to electric driving and during the transition the entire vehicle started shaking excessively. As it happened it felt like the engine or transmission was the cause of the shake. This has happened 4 times randomly so far.

Apr 20, 2023

During a moderate cruise speed, 15-35 mph, the vehicle will produce a shudder. The vehicle shakes as if riding on rumble strips. It can replicated by coasting and resting the foot on the brake lever. It does not occur every time but it is disjointing when it does occur. This would occur 3-7 times a week. The way I’ve found to stop it is to apply the brakes or the apply acceleration. Such maneuvers become unpredictable, and novice drivers may over react. This issue is well documented by drivers, with the keywords “hybrid shuddering.” Because it is inconsistent, and ford has not pushed out a fix, this issue has been unresolved.

On Monday the 27th of March, 2023 I drove the truck home and there was no issues. When I went to go drive the vehicle on Tuesday morning to work, the 28th, it didn't start. There was no power to the vehicle and it wouldn't even turn over. I tested the truck battery and it was completely dead. Wednesday the 29th I called the dealership to report the issue and they asked for a reason to why the vehicle wouldn't start. I couldn't give then a reason so they asked me to get the truck towed. I got contacted by the service department at the dealership to get more information from me but I haven't heard back from them. Its been over a week and I still haven't heard from the dealership. The dealership is University Ford in Durham, phone number 919-999-2928. They said I needed a appointment but I couldn't have scheduled an appointment without knowing there was going to be an issue with the truck.

Issue: Gasoline engine shutdown unexpectedly while driving. The following identical events occurred once each on June 14 and June 15, 2021. In both instances I was driving northbound with the (adaptive) cruise control set at 72 miles per hour, with Driver Alert enabled, and with extreme west-to-east crosswinds in excess of 50 mph per highway warning signage. While driving I received several driver alert messages – assumed to be due to the high crosswinds – which I ignored as I was not drowsy. Then without warning the gas engine shutdown and would not re-engage (pressed the accelerator to the floorboard), requiring me to quickly move to the shoulder of the roadway before the vehicle came to a complete stop. I shutoff the ignition, waited for about 30 seconds, and then restarted the vehicle and continued driving without further incident each day despite the fact that the wind persisted and the Driver Alert messages continued. This happened once on two consecutive days and has not occurred since, making note of the fact that I have not driven in severe wind conditions since. Fortunately these two events occurred in sparsely populated areas of Wyoming and Montana with fewer vehicles on the roadway, had it happened on a more densely traveled highway the safety of myself and others could have been at risk.

Problem 1: As a hybrid engine, the engine shudders, shaking the whole vehicle, as i am travelling in a low speed, around 5 mph. I believe this is the cause of engine rpm switching to electric motors. This had occurred multiple times in 3 months of owning the vehicld. Problem 2: brake grab. There has been multiple instances that the brake engages in low speed. This happens when i am not stepping on a gas pedal, like about to park. The brake grab puts the vehicle in a jerk stop. This occurred multiple times in 3 months of owning the vehicle

Feb 20, 2023

On several occasions, most recently on February 13, 2023, my vehicle encountered a stop safely warning light and all power was lost. I could no longer accelerate and was forced to pull over onto the side of the highway. This has happened on four occasions when I was attempting to pass another vehicle. The most recent occurrence happened while passing an eighteen wheel truck on a two lane highway. The truck had to brake heavily behind me because I did not have any power to maintain speed as I moved in front of him. Once stopped, I have been able to shut off the key and the system resets and I am able to resume driving. A check engine light will come on but will disappear in 24 to 48 hours.

For now nothing happens but im frustrating about recalls and my dealership is finding the ●braking▪︎ problems, the maker me unsafe also by 02/06/23 check ●ENGINE LIGHT▪︎comes on. And they gave me appointment in 42 hours. And also my maverick has a lot oil comes out front oil filter, that's my dealer unprofessional services.

Brakes are too sticky and I'm not able to control the braking even if I am using the eco mode which is supposedly slow enough already. Normally happens when I just started moving the car from park and when I am going to stop and go local traffic. When I took the car to the dealer they said they could not update the software because there is no code for braking problem for this car. This car has been showing check engine light since December 24, 2022 and when the check engine light is on I could not access my OBD port. The chicken didn't light has been going off and on for three times now, took it to the dealer and the dealer was able to find a fault code but could not pinpoint the problem yet. When the check engine light is ON, the car does not seem to have enough power to move.

This is follow-up to NHTSA Complaint 11502916 reported 01/21/23: Maverick Hybrid was at dealer for 5 days. First - Brake issue many of us are experiencing was reportedly resolved (TSB 22-2493) by reprogramming PCM and SOBDM-C; brakes seem better at slow speeds now! Second- As for the two incidents when vehicle motor stopped while driving at speeds 50mph+ and accelerating, dealer put a "Hotline Contact" into Ford motor to seek guidance however all test came up with nothing in terms of determining the cause or resolution. Since the vehicle still runs, I picked up my truck and guess I will continue to drive it until 'Russian Roulette' makes truck break down again. Dealer did mention that the SOBDM is an electrical code for brakes and stalling so maybe the brake job also fixed the engine malfunction but they can't be certain. Regardless, experiencing total engine failure at highway speeds is very frightening! Until I have FORD documentation that the problem is with 100% certainty diagnosed and resolved, I will never travel with a passenger or a pet in my truck again for fear of engine failure at highway speeds could result in a horrible tragedy! I have been very lucky not being rear-ended or even worse with the two engine malfunctions; I pray my luck continues as FORD has no answers for me!

Jan 24, 2023

The brakes are hesitant to stop while creeping forwards, then they slam on. There is also a clunking noise when stopping, usually hear it around the last five ft of the stopping distance. I have 11k miles and just needed to replace the transmission. I lost acceleration while on the highway, no warnings or engine light until a few hours after this happened. Dealer stated that this was the transmission. The truck would also almost lock in place while in drive and not level (like at a red light). It would not let go for a few seconds after releasing the brake pedal. I was also told this was the transmission. After the transmission was replaced, the same day, my engine started making a very loud clunking noise and lurching forward while parked in the driveway. This is the Hybrid version of the 2022 Ford Maverick. This is unsafe in general. Losing acceleration on the highway could have caused an accident, luckily did not. Also not being able to move when the traffic light changes poses the same safety risk. This truck is currently back at the dealership undergoing investigation to the the loud noises in the engine. I was also told that the airbag recall would not be fixed unless they deploy.

Jan 15, 2023

When I go to stop the vehicle brakes take longer to catch on to stop the vehicle. This has been an ongoing problem since vehicle pick up March 2022. I drove my truck in the last snow fall we received and when I went to brake it was much worse than in normal conditions. It felt like I slid into the stop and had to push the brakes really hard and my kids heads jerked trying to brake. Clearly is a safety issue. When I was in a drive thru waiting for my food the truck jerked forward and it felt like the transmission was falling out.

Jan 15, 2023

When I use my remote start option and just put my key in the ignition and start the truck it has a constant burning wire smell. If I come to the truck and turn it off after remote start and just restart it with the key I don't smell the burning wire. If I don't use the remote start option and just start my truck with the key I don't smell the burning wire smell.

Jan 4, 2023

When switching from gas engine to electric, the gas engine shook/vibrated violently causing the entire truck to shake like I went over rumble strips. It vibrates quite often when switching from gas to electric and vice versa but this time was dramatically different. P.S. There are no rumble strips by my house.

Dec 29, 2022

During driving, the truck will shudder during the transition from electric operation to ICE operation. The car hesitates during this problem. I've taken the truck to the dealer but they couldn't verify the problem. This problem has occurred several times over the past year.

Dec 12, 2022

While attempting to accelerate to pass, the engine shut down and a warning displayed to pull over as soon as possible. The engine check light displayed and I only had electric motor operation. There was no power to continue to pass and I was able to return to an open lane and pull off the road without any further incident. I was lucky that the road was fairly open and there was no oncoming traffic. This is the third time this has happened and each time was while attempting to perform rapid acceleration in "normal" hybrid mode.

[XXX]: Got it. And may I ask when you took your vehicle to be seen by Ford Lincoln Fairfield? [XXX]: currently my vehicle is 39,000 miles [XXX]: Nov 14 2022 [XXX]: Thank you! [XXX]: Please allow me 2-3 minutes to research this for you here on my end. [XXX]: ok thank you [XXX]: I am still checking on that for you [XXX], thanks for holding! [XXX]: Sounds good thank you [XXX]: Thank you for holding for me, [XXX]! So that I can best assist you, can you please clarify for me what it is exactly that is occurring with your vehicle? You mentioned that your vehicle will not turn on, is that correct? [XXX]: yes well the truck died while running in the road, while driving suddenly no sign of power or electricity and without warning became unresponsive in every aspect regarding to electricity (Breaks, Steering wheel, Parking break, Transmission, airbags) given the case the truck is hybrid everything stopped working. After that the truck did not start again no ignition total loss of power. [XXX]: Thank you for clarifying that for me, [XXX]. I can only imagine how much of an inconvenience this all must have been for you. I want to also ask, what did Ford Lincoln advise about your warranty coverage when your vehicle was inspected? [XXX]: Well to my disappointment I was told that is was covered the after like 2 weeks they called me back that warranty was not going to cover it [XXX]: So that is unacceptable for me [XXX]: I can understand your disappointment, as having unexpected repair expenses can be quite the burden. If you don't mind me asking, did Ford Lincoln Fairfield provide a reason as to why the warranty would not cover your vehicle's current concerns? [XXX]: No any reason it just said that it was out of the warranty that the bumper to bumper is like 36,000 [XXX]: I mean my truck has an airbag recall and won't be fixes until 2023 according to my research [XXX]: So to me this kind of unsafe vehicle should be bigger than a recall INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Accelerated to merge onto highway. Vehicle alerted to pull over safely when possible. Internal combustion engine shut off and vehicle "limped" in electric only mode until I could find a spot to park. This all happened while traveling at 70MPH on a busy freeway. Once I shut the vehicle off, I was able to start it again and travel to my nearest dealer. Dealer was unable to diagnose the issue but advised it was safe to drive home to our local dealer. Truck is currently at local dealer being diagnosed. One CEL of note was P0811 (clutch slippage). This truck is nearly brand new with fewer than 12,000 miles on the odometer. I have had similar Check Engine Lights with similar results of not being able to diagnose. However, this incident of power loss at highway speeds with my wife and 3 children in the vehicle was unacceptable.

Oct 11, 2022

At 6k miles my early build 2022 ford maverick hybrid died entirely while sitting in the garage. The truck can be jumped but will not hold a charge beyond that one use. The battery is fine according to the dealer, but it appears internal connections are not correct, causing the truck to die after every use. Ford is saying this might not be under warranty when the truck is an obvious lemon. Other owners are reporting the same issue with the hybrid models on various internet pages. It seems to be a common issue that should be subject to a recall.

Oct 9, 2022

While driving on the highway the engine would not go over 50% power, there was no check engine light and the truck felt significantly slower. When I exited the highway the problem persisted and the truck was slow even on city streets. I completed my 100mi trip and when I got home I turned the truck off. 30 minutes later I took it for a short trip and and since then there's been no issues. The loss of power is unexplained and concerning, it would have been difficult to merge on the highway or drive without knowing if my vehicle had full power when I need it.

Oct 2, 2022

Car would not accelerate under full power. When I fully depressed the gas pedal, the power meter (hybrid gauge instead of rpm) would only go up to 45%, the engine sounded like it was revving high but the car barely made any power. After a few minutes of this happening I got a message in my instrument cluster to immediately stop the vechicle, along with a red triangle with exclamation point dash light, at which point the car lost power, and started decelerating rapidly (as if in full regeneration mode (electric braking)) in the middle of the highway. I barely had enough time to get over 2 lanes of traffic and stop on the shoulder. I tried turning off the car, and on and the shifter wouldn't even go out of the P position (I physically couldn't turn it.) After a couple minutes I tried starting car again at which point car started with the check engine light on and drove normally like nothing ever happened.

Sep 26, 2022

On my way home from a 200 mile trip, approx. 10 miles from home, engine lost power so I glided to the side of the road, as it slowly lurched to a stop on a rural highway. I wasn't able to get it off the highway as there was little to no shoulder so I backed it into a driveway, shut it off, looked under the hood, under body, tires, everything looked normal. Got back in, turned the key and hit the gas pedal hard and it wasn't lurching and said it was moving under all electric and that got me 3\4 ers of a mile down the road on all electric, then it died again and half the truck was sticking out onto the road. Attempts to put the truck in neutral to push off the road into a nearby residential driveway didn't work as every time i would get it in and try to leave the vehicle seat to push it would pop back into park. Dash Indicator display showed the battery symbol and engine lite and Fordpass alert showed up on my phone. Said it was going into deep sleep mode to preserve the high voltage battery power. Found out this morning 09/26/2022 there is a Ford TSB out to repair these battery cable, battery, electrical issues. The 12v battery cable to the engine fuse box connector has a bad weld connection.

Vehicle can not power on after shutting down. You must jumpstart the vehicle everytime. Dealer stated wiring harness is the issue

Aug 21, 2022

Compete electrical failure while driving on highway. Car engine cut off and “stop safely” message came up. Jiggled loose connection on wiring harness positive termination under the hood and everything came back to life and car operated normally. Engine/electrical system failure at highway speed very unsafe- faulty wiring harness needs recall replacement issues.

Jul 6, 2022

With the initial instance (it has happened 3 separate times), I was traveling on the interstate on the way back from Tennessee to Georgia and stepped on the accelerator (basically punched it) to get around a big rig, all of a sudden I get a "tow truck" icon on my dash and the accelerator is unresponsive, so I think I was in electric mode only if that. Fortunately, I was close to an exit and was able to coast to a stop in a parking lot. I put it in park, whereby the shifter dial then locked into park, could not change it. My wife read a blog on the internet (the owners manual is useless) to wait a few minutes and everything should work, that turned out to be true, so we were able to be on our way, but scary as heck to be on the highway and your vehicle suddenly shuts down. My Ford Pass app showed a "High Voltage Battery warning" message and also the MIL (check engine light came on solid and stayed on for at least another day, but eventually went out. This happened 2 other times, the exact same scenario, but this time light to moderate acceleration. I believe my safety was put at risk because the vehicle was rendered useless while traveling at high speeds on the highway. My dealer had it for 2 weeks, and said they read some transmission codes but tell me Ford doesn't know what to do to fix the issue at this point.

Jun 30, 2022

I shut off my Maverick to get out and get some water, when I got back in my truck, it had NO power. It was as if the battery was dead. I had it jump started and drove home. In the middle of a intersection, while turning, the truck shut off completely. NO power. When this happens, you have no emergency lights and can not put it in neutral to push it off of a road. If you are on a back road with no lights, you can't turn on the hazards nor push the vehicle off the road out of traffic. It was the wiring harness that went bad. My Maverick is at the dealer right now waiting for the part to come in. This is becoming a common issue for the Truck across the US. The dealer confirmed it was wiring harness. A cop jumped started the truck for me the second time. I had to have somebody follow me home as it kept dying in the middle of the road on the way home. I consider this a safety issue as you have no lights to keep from getting hit by another vehicle and no way to put it in neutral so you can get it out of the road. There were no warning lights or symptoms that it was going to fail, it just stopped working.

Engine surging while idling. The catalytic converter will get red hot. Also a rattling noise that sounds like rocks near the driver side wheel well in side the engine bay. When using the auto brake system at a stop light when cold you can feel the engine surge and feels like the brake is going to let loose.

Feb 20, 2022

When idling in the cold, the engine runs rich. Them dumps excessive fuel in the catalytic converter causing it to become red hot, followed by a nauseous smell.

Jan 11, 2022

When using remote start (cold mornings here) the truck will run for 15 minutes. Both inside and outside the vehicle I smell what seems like plastic burning. The last time it happened I looked under the hood while it was dark out and what appears to be a catalytic converter on the back side of the motor was glowing red hot. There are high voltage lines that run within inches of this (among other things) and I am concerned there is a fire risk.
