CV axle is going bad and the car would shake really bad when on the highway and felt unsafe to drive going 65 MPH was scary with a rattle and car could nat stay in lane

Oct 2, 2025

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that while making a right turn, the vehicle stalled and failed to restart. The contact was able to coast into the turning lane. The vehicle was towed to the dealer; however, no cause for the failure was found. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V267000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, POWER TRAIN). The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.

Sep 23, 2025

The axle on the Ford Maverick are suffering premature wear causing the vehicle to shake when accelerating. Ford dealer was able to reproduce the issue and blamed it on a unbalanced axle shaft. The vehicle was not safe to drive with an unbalanced axle shaft

Sep 2, 2025

When I accelerate the vehicle shakes violently making it difficult to control.

Aug 24, 2025

Both right and left cv axle joints had a rough spot in the bearing. Both had to be replaced in November 2023. Now (August 2025), the same issue is happening again. Current mileage as of 8/24/25 is 35,844. Calling dealer to schedule repair first thing Monday morning.

Aug 12, 2025

Both Front CV Axles failed at the connection point to the transmission. Causing the vehicle and steering wheel to shake while accelerating at 45-65 MPH. The manufacturer's dealer replaced both front CV axles under warranty, as per the 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain coverage.

Aug 11, 2025

The CV axle (driver's side) started to fail before 22,000 miles on my 2022 Ford Maverick. When accelerating the vehicle would violently shake back and forth. The tires are starting to wear early due to the constant movement. If the CV axle was to break I would lose power and it could damage nearby components (brakes, brake lines, cooling lines). I would be stranded on the side of the road. I did not drive it until I could get to the dealer for a repair. The dealer was very aware of the problem. There were no warning, MIL, or any indication the part was failing. The problem is quite evident on line as most of these parts start to fail before 30,000 miles.0

Aug 1, 2025

Car shakes around 50 mph. Took truck to my mechanic and they said it was the front differentials. They told me that there was a tecall for this issue.

Jul 29, 2025

CV Joint failing. Vehicle wobbles during acceleration between 55-65 MPH. Began around 55,000 miles - was very minor at first and believed to be tire related. Now, at roughly 67,000 miles the wobble is very prominent.

Jul 2, 2025

CV axles on front wheels defective resulting in shaking which is felt in the cabin while accelerating. If the CV axle were to fail completely could result in loss of control of the vehicle. The issue has been confirmed by the service department at the Ford dealership and is currently getting the work done to have the axles replaced. This is the second time that the CV axles have failed in this truck. The truck is 3 years old and has 65,000 mi on it. I previously had the CV axles replaced in May of 2024 The issue is not accompanied by any warning, lamps or trouble indicators. There's only a noticeable roughness or shaking inside the cabin while accelerating. I feel that Ford replaces the faulty CV axles with the same defective part and 12-15 months down the road I have to deal with replacing them again.

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that the rotary gear shifter was stuck in park(P). The contact had to wait for over 15 minutes for the rotary gear shifter to move. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, no cause for the failure was found. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that recently the rotary gear shifter moved independently when touched by the arm. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired for the most recent failure. The contact stated that the failure persisted. In addition, while using the USB plug, there were several unknown messages displayed on the screen. The contact stated that after a while, the radio turned off independently. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 9,000.

This issue has been going on for a few months now and is getting worse. When accelerating, usually around the 50 - 60 MPH range, the vehicle begins to shake pretty violently. We had tires balanced and the front end aligned. No change. Mechanic feels like it an axle or CV boot issue.

Jun 19, 2025

The front cv axels prematurely wore out causing wobble while accelerating. The dealer refused to repair this under warranty. This is a safety issue. This is a design defect.

Jun 13, 2025

Vehicle lost all power while driving. This was due to a failure of the hybrid system. Created a dangerous situation as vehicle started coasting without power in neutral.

I have a 2022 ford maverick pickup truck and have a vibration in steeling wheel at acceleration so I took it to a very reapable tire ,brake and suspension dealer who checked the brakes, tires, balance, steering joints etc and found nothing wrong and said he had no clue what it could be and no Ford Recall issued but web sites show other customers with same problem and dealers are not wanting to completely check out because of no Recall please help us!!!

May 28, 2025

Both axles failed under 90,000 miles and just over three years old.

May 21, 2025

- significant front-end vibration under acceleration from 45-65 MPH - dealer diagnosed problem to faulty front axle shafts; both were replaced - no warning indicators, lamps, or messages

Apr 30, 2025

Front CV Axles are failing. Issues: constant vibrations when accelerating, difficulty steering, and some loss of control.

Apr 28, 2025

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle shifted into SAFE Mode. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the battery had failed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer where it was determined that the battery needed to be replaced again. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V158000 (POWER TRAIN, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The manufacturer extended the warranty on the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000.

Transmission sensors/Software. My wife stopped at a intersection, light turned green and she went to proceed, the truck went in reverse instead of forward! She stopped it before it hit another car. This is the second time this truck has gone behaved in a dangerous way. Last time it lurched forward almost hitting a car, and then the car went into a safety mode (they 'fixed' that in a previous recall). It seems like another sensor/software malfunction

Apr 2, 2025

The battery (new) needs to be jumped several times a week. This happens when it goes into sleep mode. Also, the vehicle stalled twice while turning left (in electric mode). My dealership could not fix the problem, but gave me a print out in mechanic terms. I have had so many issues with this hybrid. Ford did say it qualified for the “lemon law”, but then they said no. I have only put on 5000 miles and there’s been several updates and recalls

Apr 1, 2025

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact stated while driving at 25 MPH, the vehicle started to shudder. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure progressively increased and became more frequent. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with excessive movement in both axles. The dealer recommended to replacement of both axles and seals. The dealer replaced the front axle shaft, inner clips, seal locking nut, a retainer, retainer bearings, and four bolts under warranty; however, the failure recurred on several occasions a year later. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 106,019.

CV Axles failed - Numerous reports of design flaw - OEM parts on backorder unable to get parts for repair. Dealership unable to repair and said it could be months for replacement (suggested I continue to drive vehicle this way) - FORD has not recalled the known failed part - Truck thumps and vibrates making it difficult to drive (Safety Issue) - repair cost estimate 2K DEALERSHIP : MALLOY FORD WINCHESTER VA

I was driving along in slow traffic on the highway and lost ALL power to my truck and it just stop. No electrical, no drive. There is a recall for this but apparently it did not include my VIN.

Feb 4, 2025

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle experienced severe front-end shaking and vibrations while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that the failure also occurred while driving up an incline. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the front axle was bent and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 80,000.

Jan 23, 2025

The vehicle started to shake and in the span of 1 month started shaking violently. Only happens when accelerating. Upon googling it looks to be a axle, cv axle, or some axle joint issue.. called ford and they do not want to change it due to salvage.. consistent issue with tons of people having this problem. Would like them to acknowledge and change everyone who is having issue without being a problem..

Jan 5, 2025

Engine Service warning appeared this morning and the vehicle immediately lost power to a maximum of 20 mph. The same thing happened approximately 2.5 months ago. A Ford dealership technician checked it out could not find an issue and cancelled the check engine light. Both times this occurred on a busy road and could have led to a potential collision with another vehicle.

Dec 26, 2024

I was driving on the highway at 55 mph. When I pushed on the gas pedal, no acceleration would occur. There were not any warning lights or indicators for an issue. I had a total loss of power and had to coast to the side of the highway across several lanes to get to safety. The gas pedal would not function until I turned off the truck then turned it back on. The deal was not able to find any root cause for this issue, so I am driving with uncertainty whether it will happen again.

Dec 23, 2024

Vehicle shakes violently when accelerating. Believe CV axle to be bad.

Dec 17, 2024

Vehicle spontaneously went into limp mode while driving on the highway. Slowed to 20 mpg and would not accelerate. Required pulling onto the shoulder of the road.

Dec 16, 2024

The constant velocity axles are shot at 27k miles and the truck is stuck at the dealership for a month now until replacement CV axles become available. The issue started with a small vibration in the pedals while accelerating around 10 to 40 mph. The issue then progressed after about a week or two where everything shakes while accelerating. Especially while veering left. This is a known issue but Ford has not issued a recall. Some people are on their 3rd replacement by 50k miles.

Dec 16, 2024

CV axles started failing at 23k miles. Truck would shake at 52MPH. Billy Howell Ford Dealership technicians confirmed the CV axles showed abnormal wear and needed to be replaced. Techs stated they would replace the axles but the parts are back-ordered. Vehicle is now at 25k miles and shakes from 42MPH to 60MPH and is getting worse. Checked with dealership today and they have no ETA on parts from Ford.

Dec 16, 2024

Just recently I've noticed that when the engine is running and I'm stopped or parked the truck will "lurch". Almost as if I'm trying to hit the gas while parked or holding the brakes. Since this has started, I've also noticed that from 25mph to 60/65mph there is a violent vibration ONLY under acceleration (20-25% on the power meter) while the engine is running. Issue worsens depending on the mode the truck is in (worse under sport, better under ECO/Slippery). Whole truck will shake, body, steering wheel and all. Not sure if these two issues are related? I'm not sure if these are considered to be powertrain or if it's the engine. Not sure if I could have it inspected upon request because I can't pin point any mechanical abnormalities visually. I feel my safety and others may be a concern because the unknown of the issue. I'm not sure if the vehicle is breaking down, will break down, lose power or whatever the case may be. The vehicle has been reported to Ford for these issues with no resolve. No warning lamps or messages. The issue appeared to come out of no where. Wasn't doing it one day, began doing it the next.

Dec 1, 2024

severe vibration when accelerating and/or going up a hill. As of now my safety has not been at risk, unless you count being scared out of my mind (just turned 76). How do I know it will not fail trying to avoid crazy/careless drivers! The cv axel has been back ordered since Oct 3th 2024. I don't understand why it could take so long for a new part to come in. This has been going on for at least 4 months, I thought it had something to do with tires which I got 4 new tires and the problem continued.

Nov 30, 2024

My CV axle on my front right failed prematurely and they have replaced under warranty, but I have come to find out that a lot of people in the 2022 Mavericks in 2023 Mavericks are having CV axle issues. They are getting them replaced between 20 and 40,000 miles. This seems like a severe issue and I’ve heard rumor that they are changing the design of the CV axle to prevent this in the future so I would think there should be a recall to force them to put the new designed CV axles in the 22 and 23 Mavericks to prevent this problem.

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle, the power train warning light illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle failed to shift into the intended gear. The contact stated while driving 75 MPH and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond and decelerated to approximately 55 MPH. The contact stated that upon releasing and depressing the accelerator pedal again, the vehicle responded as needed. The contact stated that the automatic emergency braking system had engaged while there was no vehicle nearby. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V330000 (Power Train); however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and the dealer retrieved DTC code: P092977. The dealer determined that the GSM needed to be replaced due to a communication failure between the PCM and the Gear Shift Module (GSM). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

Started to experience heavy shaking and vibrations while accelerating. Vehicle only had 20,000 miles on it at that point. Reduced speed to maintain control of vehicle. Took to dealer and was told that it was a failed CV axle which had failed and needed replaced. Mechanic informed us that the Maverick was produced with faulty cv axles and this was a common problem and vehicle was unsafe to drive until replaced. Mechanic advised us that the other axle would likely fail as well and as no change had been made to the design the replacement axles will likely continue to fail unless ford provides a real fix.

Nov 14, 2024

Failure of CV axles. This is a very common failure of low mileage 2022-2024 ford mavericks. The dealership confirmed they are bad. The new axle is on backorder from ford so I am driving the vehicle while I wait for the new part. The symptoms are shaking while accelerating.

Oct 31, 2024

The vehicle begins to shake at stop lights, especially going downhill. In research, it seems to indicate the vehicle has issues with CV axles. Concerned for safety of myself, passengers, and the vehicle.

Oct 31, 2024

Heavy vibration under acceleration starting at about 45mph until about 60mph. If off throttle at those speeds no vibration is felt. Only when accelerating. Vibration increases as more throttle is applied. This caused serious safety issues when having to climb up grades on freeway. No warning lights present. Vehicle has not yet been checked by dealer.

Oct 30, 2024

CV joint axle front right and left. Vehicle shaking upon acceleration and getting worse. This issue is very concerning when driving on the highway. This vehicle was taken to the dealership for a diagnosis. It is confirmed that the axle shafts need to be replaced. The estimated repair for this is $1200. This problem started as a subtle vibration. I took the vehicle to a tire shop and paid do have tires re balanced and rotated. They said the shake is not tire related. I also read on online forums that many people are having this issue. The parts are currently unavailable to repair. Meanwhile, the shaking continues to get worse.

Sep 25, 2024

Two issues. There are times when I close my driver side door when I am outside the car with my keys in the ignition, car is on and the door locks. Luckily I am able to get in because I have Ford number combination unlock but this can be a serious issue for others. I also have been dealing with bad CV boot issues. Passenger side CV boot leaked and made the truck wobble at around 22k miles. Driver side CV boot is now having issues at 24k miles. This is problem is known in the forums and the mileage before CV goes bad can vary. Ford is currently fixing but no new parts or modifications are made to CV that will make the part better.

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer to be repaired under an unknown recall and the powertrain control module software update, and the key fob failed to communicate with the vehicle and the vehicle failed to start. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the battery wiring harness. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to the recall repair under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V590000 (Electrical System, Power Train). The VIN was included, and the vehicle had been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.

Issue: Shift SYS Fault, DTC P07E6 System: Transmission Description: Emergency parking brake failed to disengage (solenoid could be heard attempting to move), as a result the transmission would not shift out of park. Check engine light and multiple codes/warnings illuminated on dash. Vehicle could not be moved or shifted into neutral. Waited 10-15 minutes before 2nd attempt, parking brake still failed to disengage. Then waited for 3 hours for third attempt, at which point emergency brake successfully disengaged. Check engine light no longer lit and no codes/warnings present on dash. Nothing changed or was done to the truck between the 2nd and 3rd attempt. Reproduction: Will drop off at dealer for confirmation in coming weeks. Warnings: Engine check light, Shift SYS fault, DTC P07E6, See dealership -> all illuminated after parking brake attempted to disengage during 1st and 2nd attempt.

After completing all recalls at the dealer, most recently the PCM re-programming, my 2022 Maverick Hybrid engine would just stop running with no warning. Electrical system was intact, there was no response to the gas pedal. Car would just slow down and I had to pull over. I pressed the stop button, sat for a few seconds and pushed it again and the vehicle started and ran properly. This has happened three times over the past 3 months (most recently on [XXX]) while driving at night at highway speeds, during the day at 50 mph and 35 mph. All acted the same way. I only caught what may have been a part of a warning message on the dash that I believe said "connected" after the first incident. The truck has been at the West Richmond, VA Ford dealership for the past 10 days and they have not been able to diagnose the problem. This is a very dangerous situation and I can't drive the vehicle until a fix has been found and implemented. The NHTSA issued a report on a similar situation back in April of this year (24V267000) so it appears like Ford has not provided their dealers with a satisfactory answer to this problem. My truck did not exhibit an electrical shutdown or flash numerous trouble codes or the check engine light. The engine simply shuts off for no apparent reason. The technicians see nothing recorded in the onboard computer(s) either. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The CV axle on my 2022 Ford Maverick keeps failing. Has been repaired/replaced 3 times same Ford dealership completing repairs. It starts with shuddering and shaking when accelerating then a clicking noise and unable to keep vehicle straight. Lucky enough no accidents where caused, however the second time this happened I was on interstate going at least 75mph the clicking started then could not control the vehicle, couldn't maintain lane. I am a little surprised how lightly the issue is precevied. It's becoming routine like getting oil change and cv axles are changed out. I making this complaint because after 3rd time it is starting to have same symptoms again and drivability of vehicle.

Jul 22, 2024

Vehicle has had a Powertrain failure three times in a month. This causes the vehicle to look up and lose power. Dealers can not figure it out and Ford has not provided any solutions. Been without vehicle for 6 weeks at this point. Malfunction causes all systems to fault and vehicle seizes up making it undriveable.

Jul 16, 2024

I was driving for about 10 minutes at speed 35 mph then noticed the car is in electric mode but unable to accelerate. It feels nothing happened when I depressed the gas pedal. The car came to a complete stop at traffic light but failed to accelerate when I pressed on the gas pedal. I turned off the car and started it back up and everything return to normal.

Jun 10, 2024

I was driving on the highway at about 65 MPH. Without warning, the vehicle dashboard displayed “Selected Gear Will Engage at Lower Speed,” the vehicle shifted itself to neutral, the accelerator pedal stopped responding, and the vehicle began coasting to a stop. I had to avoid high speed highway traffic to make it to the side of the road. When I had slowed to about 5 MPH, the vehicle forcibly shifted to park, and engaged the parking brake on its own — causing an abrupt stop. I could not shift out of park. The check engine light, wrench icon, traction icon all illuminated, the chime sounded and a series of errors displayed: “Service Advance Trac” “Collision Prevention Unavailable” “Hill Start Unavailable” “Service Engine Soon” among others. After power cycling the vehicle, the warning messages and icons remained, but I could shift into drive. However, the vehicle wouldn’t travel above 30 MPH, and seemed to accelerate on its on, as if it were on cruise control set at 30 MPH. Abruptly stopping on the highway is very dangerous, and could have caused a serious accident. Unless there is a catastrophic failure (which there wasn’t) the vehicle should never uncontrollably stop, especially on the freeway.

Jun 9, 2024

I got recall notices in the mail in May. Unfortunately Ford of Kirkland (WA) Could not schedule me for an update until July 25th, that is their first opening because of all the recalls. On [XXX], 2024 at [XXX] I was traveling NW on [XXX] from Yakima WA to Ellensburg WA. I was traveling about 75 mph when the car shifted itself to a lower gear, then lights started flashing all over the dash for numerous things. the monitor stated something about low gear, service engine light on, diagnostic was being run, all in a matter of seconds. As I was looking to see if I could get over the truck's collision brakes activated even though there was no one in front of me. I lurched forward while my truck was slamming on the brakes out of the blue. I managed to make it to the side of the highway and shut off the truck. If anyone had been behind me they would have slammed right into me. This would have been a high speed rear end collision and I as well as others could easily have been killed! This was needless to say, terrifying! A tow truck came and towed the truck to Valley Ford in Yakima WA, I haven't yet heard what the analysis of this total system failure was. I waited in the truck for an hour for a tow along side a very busy highway with numerous large semi's passing me less that a couple feet from the driver's side where I was seated. This should NEVER happen to anyone. Ford cannot manufacture a vehicle that is this inherently dangerous! It's just a miracle no one was right behind me or there would have been major injuries, and it would not have been my fault, or their fault. It would have been Ford's fault! These trucks need to be taken off the roads. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Jun 5, 2024

Was driving at 60 mph, without warning vehicle displayed error with power train module and shifted in to neutral. Vehicle lost engine power and would not respond. Vehicle would not shift into drive, pressing on accelerator pedal did nothing. Without warning vehicle shifted itself into park very abruptly. Could not shift into drive or low drive. Turned vehicle off and the. back on, vehicle would shift into drive. Attempted to get out of the flow of traffic, would not accelerate, almost collided with another vehicle. Vehicle would only accelerate to 30-35mph.

May 22, 2024

The vehicle shakes when accelerating from between 10 miles and 50 miles. Took the vehicle to the dealership and found out both the front CV axles were defective. My truck only has 39K miles, and when I researched online, saw many other owners whose vehicles were built in 2022 and 2023 complain of the same issue. It tells me the CV axles and associated hardware is of poor quality and should not have been installed in the first place. Ford needs to offer a replacement/recall on these CV axles and extend the power train warranty beyond 60K for such shoddy quality parts.

May 18, 2024

The Maverick unexpectedly switched to limp mode and had engine failure while in motion. The Maverick would not go over approximately 25mph unless coasting faster on a downhill. On some uphills, it struggled to maintain 10mph. Turning the vehicle off and back on again did not alleviate the issue. Approximately two months ago, I started to have a check engine light on. It took the dealership two months to get my Maverick in for service. The service finally occurred this past Monday/Tuesday (13-14 May). Ford thought they fixed the issue which they had not. They also did the current recalls on the truck. This most recent highly dangerous issue happened after those recall software updates. The FordPass Alert: "The powertrain control module has detected the engine timing chains have exceeded 95% of their useful life and requires service now. The control system invokes a symptom of limited power." This is a common issue amongst Maverick Hybrid owners and Ford is not doing anything to fix the issue. Many Maverick owners are having it happen multiple times and at speeds up to 70 or 75 mph. it is preferable that Ford be forced to take responsibility and fix the issue before people are serious injured or killed. Thank you.

May 14, 2024

While driving on the highway my car randomly went into limp mode rapidly and nearly caused an accident. I do know the code was U1011. It is a PCM fault stating the PCM and the engine has lost connection. It has been noted to turn on and off randomly and cannot be replicated until it reappears. Dealerships have been giving the run around that it goes away so it’s not a problem. Everyone to include me is having the problem after getting a recent PCM update recall done. My local ford deal shops even say they can see the fault happens, but will not do anything to solve the issue. This fault puts me and everyone in the road as risk randomly sending my car into limp mode without warning or signs.

•My saga continues driving my Maverick hybrid to NY to visit my mom for Mother’s Day hoping the new Battery/Smart Junction Box that my Ford Dealer replaced on 4/9 was the culprit in the 2 shutdowns experienced on [XXX]. •[XXX] Maverick shutdown 3x driving on highway around 70 mph during 400-mile trip. Had to wait approx. 20-minutes each time for engine to cool off and reset from electric mode to continue on. NY Ford dealer diagnosed on 5/13 and reports: U1010 is present , Hybrid Powertrain Control Module is suspected to be bad They said it would take a few days to get a new PCM from Ohio warehouse. I couldn’t wait and had to return to MD for work on 5/14. •[XXX] Shutdown 4x driving on highway around 70 mph during 400-mile return trip. Had to wait approx. 20-minutes each time for engine to cool off and reset from electric mode to continue on. Drove my car home and parked in my driveway with no issues. 9 hours later when I was about leaving for work, started the car but car won't start. I jumpstarted the car then all of a sudden the (Drive) Shift knob light was flashing, warnings started flashing, hill start assist not available, service vehicle soon, pre collision assist not available, service advance Trac, and parking brake applied automatically and total loss of power. When I pressed on the gas, it wouldn’t go and no throttle response. When I let off the brake and was NOT pressing the gas, it would start to accelerate all on its own up to about 28/29 mph all on its own, acting like it was in cruise control

May 8, 2024

I was driving down the freeway and my truck when into reduced power mode, displaying " Powertrain malfunction/Reduced power, engine service soon, and precollision assistance not available". This ended up slowing me rapidly from 65 down to under 20 miles. I almost had a semi slam into the back of me missing me by inches.

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle accelerated unintendedly. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.

Check engine light Power train light (wrench)/reduced power Brake light pre-collision light/pre-collision unavailable Hill assist message The above warning lights appeared out of no wear when pulling up to a stop light.. The parking break was automatically engaged and the above warning lights appeared. When I tried to accelerate to make a turn, the truck would not accelerate with me using the accelerator, but it started accelerating on its own. I had to keep riding the brake because it keep accelerating on its own until I was able to get it to a parking lot.

While driving 70mph, Maverick truck lost power and was forced to pull onto shoulder. Restarted car after several systems were flashing as disabled. I was only able to drive 34mph top speed. After stopping for gas and shutting vehicle off for 30 minutes, car restarted without warnings (only check engine light on) and were able to drive 70mph again. I'm assuming this is the 24S24 recall. My dealership read the codes but were not aware of the recall or its remedy so I'm still waiting for recalibtation.

On 4/27/24 Vehicle went into limp mode after driving for less than 90 seconds. Multiple various errors messages (powertrain, hill assist, collision, check engine) lit up, vehicle was accelerating on its own when in drive. No error messages prior to this incident. Similar incident happened around 3/10/23 while at Ford service for recall software updates but issue was not confirmed at that time. Vehicle is at Ford service now for second incident. Ford service states when the vehicle got a recall completed for the SOBDCM update, it triggered the vehicle to not update fully and causes the warning messages and can force the vehicle to go into limp mode and lose power.

The component in question is the powertrain control module for my Maverick. After having the relevant powertrain recall reprogramming done (23E09), I was driving down the highway when I received a rapid series of warnings from my car including "Pre-Collision Assist Not Available", "Service Engine Soon", and "Service AdvanceTrac" [sic]. I lost all engine power at that point, and was steadily decelerating with no response from the accelerator. There was no advance warning or messages. There was an imminent threat to my safety at that time. The loss of all power rendered the car unsafe to continue driving on the highway, and prevented me from leaving the highway in a safe manner. I was able to pull off the highway at a fortunately nearby exit ramp, however, I was unable to accelerate and was only able to coast to the nearest safe parking space. I subsequently turned my car off and on again, I found that when in drive the car would accelerate by itself to no more than 35 miles per hour, and was unresponsive to the accelerator pedal-it would only slow down if the brake was applied. Upon arriving at my original departure point, I then turned my car off and attempted a BMS reset unsuccessfully. The next day (<12 Hours since the initial failure), my car was functioning properly again but was soon seen by a dealership for service. I was informed by the service representative that this is a repeated issue brought to their attention for this make & model, with a consistent trend of these issues occurring after the powertrain control module was reprogrammed as part of an update. The powertrain module was again reprogrammed/flashed, and the issue has not repeated since the initial failure, though it is available for inspection.

3/28/24 My 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid’s engine shut down and lost acceleration driving 70-80 miles an hour on a highway going through hills after 100 miles. Vehicle displayed a bunch of dashboard alerts as it soon lost all acceleration and would only drive slowly in Electric mode. I pulled over and tried again, but it was stuck in electric mode with barely any acceleration and displayed Check engine, service vehicle, bring to the dealer, etc., and a few other alerts. I shut off the engine and tried it again 5 min later, and it was still in electric mode. I shut it off again and waited around 15 minutes while trying to get roadside service using my Ford App, which showed local dealers but I could not find any towing service. Then, after the truck cooled down, ~15 minutes, it started up fine, and I could drive it. The engine shut down again after about another hour, displaying the same dashboard alerts as seen earlier. I pulled way over, shut everything down, and waited 10-15 min or so , and it started and ran fine to get me home in 30 min or so. I brought it to the Ford dealer the next day, 3/29/24, it took them 8 business days, and they said it was fixed on 4/9/24; they replaced the Battery/ Smart junction box.

Recently got a couple recalls done and then yesterday while I was driving back home I Ford chimes twice and then see a plethora of service lights and dash warnings. Completely lost power on the freeway pulled over from originally being in the left lane in time. But could of been a lot worse if I wasn't coming back at 11pm. Restarted the truck and it let me go a max of 20mph all the way home (luckily I was near my exit) flooring it the entire time. Then after an hour of sitting at home I started it up again to surprisingly what felt like full power again but with a check engine light.

Apr 22, 2024

Vehicle was in cruise control driving along the highway at-speed when the engine suddenly cut out and cruise control stopped maintaining speed. Pressing the accelerator did nothing, but the brakes still worked. After turning cruise control off the accelerator was still having no effect, and the vehicle did not let me re-engage cruise control. All other electronics (navigation, music, dash, hazard lights, etc.) continued to work fine, but I noticed that the light on the gear selector was blinking instead of the normal solid yellow. I pulled over onto the shoulder and came to a stop, at which point the vehicle put itself into park and engaged the parking brake. Several warning and advisory messages appeared on the screen advising me not to drive the vehicle, and almost all of the warning lights on the dash lit up. The electronics continued functioning for a time, but after a short while (less than 2 hours) they died as well. This included the locks, mileage indicator, windows, hazard lights, and gear shift—the vehicle could not be put into neutral. The vehicle was loaded onto a flatbed tow truck and taken to a dealership. Service invoice is attached. To summarize, it appears that a failure in the heat exchanger caused engine to cut out. Cause of electrical failure after stopping is unknown.

Driving at 30 mph when car lost power, emergency brake came on, would not accelerate. check engine light came on with multiple other warnings like drive modes disabled, service advancetrac, pre-collision assist not available. have video. was able to coast home as not applying accelerator pedal resulted in auto increased acceleration. luckily i was on a residential street. this vehicle is an absolute lemon.

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, his girlfriend who was occupying the front passenger's side seat, informed him that there was an abnormal odor inside the vehicle. Additionally, the contact sustained severe headaches while driving. The contact drove to the hospital, where he was informed that there was an elevated level of carbon monoxide in his blood, and he had sustained carbon monoxide poisoning after two hours of exposure. The contact also stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the heater exchange needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 70-75 MPH with the Adaptive Cruise Control engaged, a message indicating that the gear was changed forcibly was displayed, and the Eco mode was disengaged, and the engine stalled. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road. The messages "Service Advancetrac", "Service Engine Soon" "Pre-collision Assist Not Available" and "Hill Assist Not Available" were displayed on the instrument panel. Additionally, the messages "Power Train System Fault" and "Collision Assist Unavailable" were displayed on the mobile app. The traction control warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after several attempts and a Police Officer assisted the contact in driving to the other side of the road. The contact was able to continue driving at 45 MPH. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the failure could not duplicated because the check engine warning light was not illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 18,000.

Driving around 20 mph, when the car lost power /almost felt like it was stalled. Check engine light came on (yellow wrench icon) and pop up message "service soon". Had to stop vehicle and restart several times to get car going again. Ford Pass app shows a code for Power Malfunction / Reduced Power (see image from phone app). Technician at dealership pulled up error codes from the past few weeks (see images).

Apr 14, 2024

My 22 Lariat Hybrid lost power last Wednesday while I was driving it. I believe the engine was still running, but I couldn't accelerate. I parked, turned the truck off, then back on, and drove home. I was able to drive it to the dealership the next day, no problem, It's at the dealership right now. I haven't heard anything yet.

I was going 70 mph on the interstate when I suddenly lost power. The engine wouldn’t respond. I had to quickly change lanes to get off of the interstate. Luckily there was space otherwise I could have been in an accident. The dash gave a warning of Advance Trac issue. The D on the selector was flashing. I got stopped and turned off the truck. Luckily after I gathered myself I searched and found it was a sensor issue and the truck did start and I drove 2 hours home. I was very scary though not having control of the vehicle at 70 mph.

Apr 12, 2024

I was driving [XXX] on [XXX] around [XXX] yesterday morning north . Without warning I lost control of the accelerator and the speed diminished to around 35 MPH. Several warning lights flashed onto the dashboard saying systems were failing. Check engine light came on and a "wrench" symbol appeared. The light on the transition control dial for "D" started flashing. I was in a construction area with no shoulder when it happened. I was able to creep into a niche on a partial turnoff around .5 miles later. I shut the car off and restarted it. Same problems. I noticed I was .25 miles from an exit and waited for traffic to clear from behind. Managed to get to 10-15 MPH and up the exit with traffic blaring around me. Parked at a McDonald's and wait for a tow truck that never came after 2.5 hours. Made an appointment with nice folks at Classic Ford in Columbia. I was told tow truck might be another 2.5 hours so I tried to restart car. This time only the "check engine" light stayed on. I drove the car slowly in electric mode around the parking lot and it seemed safe at lower speeds. I mapped out a "less the 45 MPH" route to Classic Ford and was able to reach there without further incident. However, the "check engine" light remained on the entire trip. The car is now being checked by Classic Ford. I have had no diagnosis yet. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Driving down highway at normal speed. Car lost all engine power, still on but indicated gear shift was not in drive. Pulled off to side of highway. Put drive in park. Dash came up with a bunch of warnings. Turned off. Turned back on. Same warnings happened. Put it in drive and it just start going forward without any input. Was injured in power. Drove it to safe spot. Turned off called for tow. Tried turning it back on and returned to normal but check engine light was on. Very unsafe to loose power in the middle of the highway. My two friends died like that!

While driving at cruising speed on freeway/interstate, experienced sudden and unexpected loss of power and multiple error codes, including "gear selected will engage at low speed" and "service advancetrac", together with flashing service engine soon light. This occurred approximately 3 weeks after completing service recalls for power train control module (23E09) and turn signal outage detection failure and instrument panel cluster IPC Illumination

Took my maverick for the system softward update and when I drove it after the update my truck suddenly had a loss of total power while driving on the freeway at 70mph. The dashboard cluster had all the lights come on check engine, abs ect light up and I had limit power 5mph enough to get my to the side of the freeway and all of a sudden the brake engaged and the truck jolted to a stop. I took the truck back to the dealer and they uploaded the system update again and released the truck back to me and a couple of days later the same thing happened.

Apr 3, 2024

Driving at highway speeds, the vehicle started de-accelerating with a message on the dash saying to slow down to shift in selected gear. The vehicle did not respond to any accelerating to avoid traffic to get to the side of the road and only deaccelerated. The "D" indicator in the PRNDL was flashing as i pulled off to the side of the road. Once stopped, error messages appeared on the dash; "Hill Start Assist Not Available," "Service AdvanceTrac," "Pre-Colision Assist Not Available," and "Service Vehicle Soon." After waiting 5-7 minutes with the vehicle turned off, The vehicle was again drivable with the CEL illuminated. This issue generated two codes: U1011 - The automobile fault code U1011 indicates a problem with the Controller Area Network (CAN) communication harness, a faulty Engine Control Module (ECM), or a poor harness ground connection. The most common symptom is the Engine Light ON or Service Engine Soon Warning Light. U1028 - The automobile fault code U1028 indicates a communication issue between the vehicle’s modules. This is often accompanied by the engine light turning on. The cause of this fault code could be a faulty module, an open or shorted module harness, or a poor electrical connection in the module circuit.

Was driving on the freeway and a ton of warnings suddenly appeared on the dash. Pre-collision assist not available, stop driving now, service engine soon, powertrain malfunction, etc. The truck would not accelerate when the gas pedal was pressed and slowly slowed down. The truck would auto-accelerate (without gas pedal input) to about 20 mph unless the brake was applied (limp-mode). I pulled over, disconnected the 12V battery and reconnected which seemed to fix the problem. The dealership could not figure out the issue. I believe that the 12V battery was somehow drained to a point where it fed a low-voltage to suite of safety sensors which all went haywire.

Apr 2, 2024

Car stopped moving although still on, then had many flashing warnings. the "D" on the drive knob was flashing. Turned the car off and on a few times and eventually gor it moving then it tried to engage in its own determined speed! I only had a mile to get home so made it home with out it stopping again. The errors codes ( Vehicle alert) showing on my "Ford" app are: 1.precollison assist not available 2.Powertrain malfunction/reduded power 3.service engine soon(the engine has detected a fault) there were others while this was first happening but i was overwhelmed with fear and don't remember The car is at the local Ford Dealer and they have yet to find the problem I see on some online sites others having this same issue - it appears that it after a recall which i have had a few fixed This is so terrifying and if I had been going 75 on the frwy I was headed to it could have been deadly...

Engine failed while driving on highway. No noises, just check engine and multiple other warnings on instrument panel turned on. The vehicle lost power but would still drive at about 25 mph. I was able to stop the car in a safe place and after turning it off for 10 minutes it started up again like normal.

Apr 2, 2024

I brought my 2022 Ford Maverick hybrid to Franklin Ford dealership on 10/2/23 for repair with battery issues I was having previously. At random times the car would not turn on from start despite the battery testing at full power. Franklin Ford installed software updates they said resolved the power issue and I drove off the lot with the car on 10/7. 15 minutes later I was driving on the highway at 70 mph and the entire dash panel lost power. I tried to accelerate and the engine had no power as well. Fortunately I was safely able to move to the break down lane and coast into a highway exit. Since the car had no power I removed the key and tried restarting which worked successfully. My engine light was on and I received about 10 engine and powertrain warnings in my Ford mobile app. This was a major and life-threatening malfunction that the dealership had no explanation for and neither did my case worker at Ford Customer Service. I had owned the car for less than 12 months at the time and it was extremely concerning knowing that the car could now shut off at a moments notice while driving. I returned the vehicle to the same Franklin Ford dealership where it received the software update that seemed to put the vehicle into failure. Their solution was to reroute the wiring harness through the engine since it was previously exposed to the wheel well and had corroded the external layer of the harness. I'm submitting this report because I have seen dozens of similar cases with the same year and model as me. As a first time customer of Ford this has been a nightmare experience.

Freeway driving - normal conditions. Vehicle suddenly loses most power and all the warning lights appear. After powering off for a couple minutes then it will act normal with check engine light on. This happens multiple times in a couple hundred mile drive.

Apr 1, 2024

Driving around 40 mph and suddenly my dash lights up light a Christmas tree. Car enters limp mode and slows down on its own. Notified via ford app of power train failure, pre collision and service engine (although my car was serviced a couple of weeks prior). Dropped my vehicle off at the dealership and they decided to hang onto it as they have no solution and are waiting for engineering to provide one.

Mar 31, 2024

I had my truck in for recall fixes. Since then it has intermittently gone into limp mode twice. No warning or notice. The first time it happened I was merging onto the freeway. This could have been a serious accident as I lost power and cars were flying around me at 60mph. I was left stranded twice while waiting for the tow truck and Lyft to pick me up. The dealership does not offer loner cars while yours is being fixed. So far the truck has been in the shop for this issue 18 accumulative days.

Mar 31, 2024

4 days after getting my truck back from work to complete recalls and the 1st incident of the truck going into limp mode, it happened again. Had to call a tow truck and tow to the dealership.

Mar 30, 2024

This weekend I drove from home, Centerville, to Virginia and 3 TIMES the engine would shutoff or disengage the drivetrain. And I received this message: "Gear Selected will Engage at Low Speed". It happened on the highway at highway speeds. Each time I was going uphill. When it happened the first time, the check engine light came on and remained on for the duration of the trip to Virginia. Secondly, each of these times the gear shifter would start blinking and remain locked until stopping and shutting off. It seemed like the engine turned off as I could not hear it rev. Steering and braking worked like normal. Third, and this happened each time, as I was braking and stopping the truck would abruptly put itself into park just a half second before I came to a complete stop. upon restarting, the truck it put itself into grade assist mode, both against my wishes or the actual need for it. It took 2 to 4 tries for this to go away so I could drive like normal. The next morning I went for a short drive to get breakfast. Upon restarting, the engine light went back to normal and relit while driving. It has not come back on while driving since. Later, I went for a slightly longer drive and upon braking and coming to a complete stop for a stop light, the truck felt like I was driving over railroad tracks. This happened just that once. I ended up driving home through the rural but empty highways of West Virginia and through all that the above issues never returned. ~18K miles ~No idea if this relates, but this happened about 2 weeks after software reprogramming to address 2 recalls. ~Also unlikely to be related, but alert chimes would go off when opening the not-running truck. This happened for a couple of weeks, later sounding faster in timing, then another version of the chime. I always drive with a seatbelt on but it sounded like the chime from starting the truck without the belts on. There were no dash lights to indicate anything. And then that went away.

One week after having recall [XXX] completed on [XXX] driving on [XXX] at about 70 miles per hour my truck slowed down to 10 miles an hour with my dashboard lighting up with a slew of warning lights blinking like crazy. I was able to get to the side of the road before it conked out all the way. Luckily my wife and did not get rammed into. Service engine now, powertrain failure, will not go into gear at this speed, collision assist warning lights all came on and were blinking. This was [XXX]. Luckily somehow I got the computer rebooted and drove home very carefully. I took it to dealer the following Monday, they had it for 2 days but warning lights were not on so they gave it back to me with nothing rectified. One week later this happened again on [XXX] a smaller highway, same warning lights but at a slower speed. Once again I got the computer to reboot but had to hold my foot on the brake because vehicle wanted to take off and the speed limit was 35. I took it into the same dealer the next day [XXX] and it has been their since. Today is March 29. The dealer finally was able to get Ford to admit this recall screwed up some software and they have no fix yet. No one should go ahead and get this recall done because someone is going to get killed. 2022 Maverick shuts down without warning. Driving at highway speeds, 65mph, the car simply loses all power. This started happening after factory recall work was completed on 3-11-24. I have stranded 7 times on the shoulder.

Mar 25, 2024

After driving about 500 ft, check engine light appeared, propulsion stopped immediately and I was only able to pull off road with momentum. Fortunately, I was at a driveway. Otherwise, I would have been required to park in the road (due to steep shoulders) on a two lane road. If I had been followed closely by a heavy vehicle, it probably would have rear-ended me since the propulsion quit so abruptly. After I turned truck off and restarted, it had enough propulsion to return 500 ft home at about 10 mph. -Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. No inspections performed other than dealer for repair/reset. -Dealer reset was done and no further problems noted. No replacement parts needed. Dealer said they had one other Maverick with this problem.

Powertrain malfunction/reduced power, pre-collision assist not available, service engine soon warning, truck went into limp mode and was a hazard by reducing power and speed which cause a tariff hazard

Mar 24, 2024

Vehicle suddenly stopped accelerating while l was driving at 70 mph on a freeway and would not accelerate beyond 35 mph. Multiple warnings started flashing on dashboard - Powertrain malfunction / Reduced Power, Service engine soon, Pre-collision assist not available. I stopped on the shoulder, switched off engine, waited for 5 minutes and restarted engine then all warnings were gone and l was able to drive fine. But this was very scary experience as it was very dangerous to suddenly slow down from 70 mph to 35 mph in middle of fast traffic, l was lucky that there was no accident. Just few days before this incident, l had got few recalls repaired at Ford dealership that included updates to Power Control Module software.

Mar 23, 2024

While driving, the car severely jerked and all the lights on the dash lit up. I received the errors “Powertrain failure”, “vehicle in low gear mode”, “pre collision assist not available” and “service engine soon”. I quickly lost all power and was completely unable to accelerate. I happened to be going down hill so I coasted to a clear area where I could safely stop. After coming to a stop the car could not move forward and needed to be towed. I have not received any errors prior to this. However, I did recently complete a recall that involved a powertrain software update.

Mar 23, 2024

Vehicle lost all power while driving on the freeway. Had to pull over, find a safe place to park and while doing that, the engine sounded like a diesel engine.

Mar 20, 2024

While traveling on the highway at approximately 75mph the instrument cluster began to flash warnings, (Selected gear will be changed to when speed slows down, precollision assist not available, service engine soon) the accelerator pedal was unresponsive, and the vehicle began to slow. I parked the vehicle, shut the engine off, and restarted. upon restarting the vehicle would only move at approximately 10mph, the accelerator pedal was still unresponsive. I then parked the vehicle and called for a tow truck to take the vehicle to the dealership.

Yes, I was driving around 75 mph [XXX] in Thousand Oaks, Ca and I lost power to the engine. No acceleration from the gas pedal. Was able to turn hazards on and make it off freeway. This issue now has happened over 5 times at all speeds. Truck is currently with Ford. Also this issue never happened until Ford fixed the CV axles that went bad. First time it lost power was the night I picked up from dealership from them fixing cv axles. They also did some recall updates with codes. I can say this is a very dangerous situation when losing power driving on a California freeway. Not having my truck is also causing me many issues with work and clients. The truck is my lifeline. Vehicle had a sudden loss of power at ~40mph and began rapidly decelerating. Had there been a car behind me, the sudden deceleration could have caused a collision. Warning lamps and messages displayed on the instrument cluster instantly. I pulled the OBD codes and received U1011 and U1028 as active codes. These codes indicate a PCM software issue. It is important to note that this issue occurred after a PCM software update was performed as part of a recall. I power cycled the vehicle, cleared the DTC codes, and after multiple attempts, the vehicle worked normally again and I was able to drive it home. I have been unable to recreate the problem after clearing the codes. Prior to this incident, I have not had any problems from the vehicle. I suspect the the PCM software recall is what caused the problem.

Mar 12, 2024

Vehicle is vibrating or shuddering strongly when accelerating at about 50% power. CV Joints are failing prematurely (35,000 miles,) as many others have reported.

Mar 12, 2024

The dealer said a hybrid part that transfers power failed. I was starting from a stoplight at a busy intersection and lost power and a warning popped up saying to turn my engine off immediately, luckily I was able to coast into a gas station. If I was on the highway it could have been catastrophic.

Mar 12, 2024

Just had a recall completed related to software programming in the past 3 weeks. Since then this has occured twice. While driving at highway speeds the vehicle quickly lost/reduced power and slowed down to 20 mph and produced a message that stated " Powertrain malfunction/Reduced power, engine service soon, and precollision assistance not available". This caused me to almost be rear ended and get into an accident with other vehicles on the road. It likely would have resulted in an accident/injury if not for light traffic that day. Ford has stated they cannot reproduce the issue.

Mar 12, 2024

Today I was driving on the highway when the precollision alert came on with no vehicles in front of me. About 5 minutes later I received a series of error messages and the vehicle went into a limo mode where it automatically drove at 20 MPH with no accelerator input from the driver. The following errors popped up on my screen. Check engine light Power train light (wrench)/reduced power Brake light pre-collision light/pre-collision unavailable Hill assist message Will engage in gear selected at low speed. Pulled over, shut it off, turned it back on, put in drive and it started accelerating on its own but only up to about 20mph, stopped and shut it off again. Turned back on and all the messages and light disappeared except check engine light remained on.

Mar 4, 2024

While towing my boat down the interstate my truck lost all power from the engine and the dash began flashing with all sorts of errors. There was zero warning of this. Thankfully, I was safely able to get to the side of the interstate thankfully but I was basically dead in the water. The truck would sort of drive on its own, no input from me at all, it would just start moving if I let off the brakes and get up to about 35mph. The dash had the check engine light on, ABS light, and the transmission light on. The following messages came up on the screen; service engine, service advancetrac, hill start assist disabled, and the pre-collision assist was disabled. Thankfully no one was injured but it was incredibly dangerous that the vehicle lost all power in 70+ mph traffic, especially while towing a boat.

Engine completely fails while driving at highway speeds. Press on accelerator and no power. However Electronics, dash etc, are still on. It has happened 6 times in 2 weeks. Maverick has 26K miles. Each time I have had to coast to a safe shoulder or exit without any ability to accelerate. No warning lights, messages or other symptoms prior to occurrence. I have had it happen in "Normal" mode while using cruise control and lane assist. I have had it happen in "Normal" mode without using lane assist or cruise control. When it does happen, warning light says pull to safety, and check engine light remains on. I Am able to brake, place car in park, turn off car, restart, check engine light remains on and then am able to drive briefly again. It then happens again. Originally happened on Feb 14, 2024, then again on Feb 22, 2024, and then 4 times on February 25, 2024. Have taken back to dealer each time. Dealer cannot find anything associated with Code readings. Dealer is unable to duplicate. Ford has been unresponsive in providing any service bulletin. I am not the only Maverick Hybrid vehicle experiencing this. An outstanding engine failure and engine fire recall remains without resolution from Ford. I have given them permission to drive vehicle 100 miles, as that is when it first occurs. My vehicle is not safe to drive. My daughter and I were almost killed on high speed highway when the engine failed and 18 wheeler barreling down behind us. Ford has offered no solution or steps to compensate for this danger.

Feb 11, 2024

Vehicle shakes considerably during acceleration. Tires were checked and rebalanced, but issue persists. Dealer states the cv axles are a common issue and has ordered parts to repair.

The axle failed. There was severe vibration on acceleration causing the vehicle to hesitate and shake. Before taking it in for service the vibration was noticeable during normal driving. The vehicle was inspected by the Ford dealership and the axle was found to be the issue.

Jan 11, 2024

CV Joins or front axles failed after 10k miles. The car shakes under acceleration always between 50mph and 60mph and also when you try to overtake other cars. It can shake pretty horribly depending on how hard you press the gas pedal. The problem was reproduced by the dealer but they don't have the parts to fix it. No warning lights.

After ~32000 miles of driving the truck was shuddering aggressively when accelerating. On 10/13/2023 truck was taken into a Ford Dealership, Preston Ford West in Randallstown, MD, for repair of this issue and was told this was due to both CV axles failing and it was no longer safe to drive. From my research, this part failing so early in the life of the vehicle is significantly earlier than what is typical of a CV axle.

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle was shuddering upon acceleration. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was not able to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. While driving up a hill, the vehicle lost motive power and was shaking vigorously. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact was able to park the vehicle. The vehicle failed to start the next day. The contact jump-started the vehicle. The “Stop Safely Now” message was displayed. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, who was unable to determine why the vehicle failed to start but informed the contact the CV axle needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the parts were on backorder. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000.

Parked in front of garage turn off and knew something was not right. truck loss all power . was dead ,,completely dead. The next day I was leaving for a trip. called for tow and tow could not jump it. truck would not go into neutral. Hybrid electric transmission would not go into neutral. I left for trip came back and still dead. had to call for another tow, tried to jump will not jump or turn over. would not go into neutral. could not push truck or unlock or turn steering wheel. this is a major safety issue. If you kid is in the truck you can not open the truck. If the truck is on fire and your kid is in the truck. you can not open the truck!. if the truck died at Rail road track. died on freeway , or when in traffic your doomed. It had to be put on four wheel dolly and towed to dealer at dealer over 30 days. still has a fire recall ford does not have a fix for. heat exchanger, hybrid cable, battery changed and dont feel safe to drive it.

As I was driving and began to slow down the vehicle switched from gas to electric driving and during the transition the entire vehicle started shaking excessively. As it happened it felt like the engine or transmission was the cause of the shake. This has happened 4 times randomly so far.

5/21/2023 8:45pm Driving south on I-15 through Temecula, a “Service Vehicle Soon” warning showed up on display, I pushed “OK” to clear the message and then “Shift Sys Fault” warning showed up while the gear selector showed a flashing “D” 8:48pm (see Ford Pass app) mileage 5,286 Then “Powertrain Malfunction / Reduce Power” warning showed up and the truck started to lose speed. I put the Emergency Flashers on and started to maneuver to the right lane. The truck continued to lose power and the truck kept slowing even though I depressed the accelerator to try to increase speed and keep up with the freeway traffic so I could safely pull off the freeway onto the right shoulder. The gear selector was now flashing “P” even though we were going over 50 MPH. I turned the selector knob clockwise to try to move to “D” fearing that the transmission would self-destruct if it did engage Park. The selector did seem to change to D, still flashing, but I couldn’t say if it stayed there for sure because I was too busy avoiding traffic to get off the freeway. As I pulled onto the shoulder continuing to slow, the emergency brake engaged and the transmission shifted into Park while we were still moving at approximately 5 to 10 MPH and the truck skidded abruptly to a stop making grinding noises. The transmission would not shift out of Park and the parking brake would not release. Note: This Maverick experienced many similar "Shift Sys Faults" errors several months ago although never while the truck was moving. Ford replaced the transmission on Dec 5, 2022 and the vehicle was operating normally until this event. Ford file CAS-38767629-B5P4Y1 9:28pm When Ford Emergency Service advised no help was coming, I turned the key on and I was able to shift the transmission to Drive and continue home. In previous events, after waiting 20-30 mins the fault would clear and the transmission and parking brake would function again. We continued home, 39 miles, without incident. Faults attached

There is a drivetrain shudder/vibration at lower speeds, while accelerating, and decelerating. Taking off from a stop seems to cause it most often, but not always. Vehicle does seems to recover, but stumbles a little. This is an intermittent problem, it has only 7,500 miles, no dealer is able to "reproduce" the problem yet. No warning lights, or DTC's. I am not sure it is a safety issue yet, but if the drivetrain suddenly disengages while traveling down the highway because of these symptoms now, I can see a real safety concern.

This is follow-up to NHTSA Complaint 11502916 reported 01/21/23: Maverick Hybrid was at dealer for 5 days. First - Brake issue many of us are experiencing was reportedly resolved (TSB 22-2493) by reprogramming PCM and SOBDM-C; brakes seem better at slow speeds now! Second- As for the two incidents when vehicle motor stopped while driving at speeds 50mph+ and accelerating, dealer put a "Hotline Contact" into Ford motor to seek guidance however all test came up with nothing in terms of determining the cause or resolution. Since the vehicle still runs, I picked up my truck and guess I will continue to drive it until 'Russian Roulette' makes truck break down again. Dealer did mention that the SOBDM is an electrical code for brakes and stalling so maybe the brake job also fixed the engine malfunction but they can't be certain. Regardless, experiencing total engine failure at highway speeds is very frightening! Until I have FORD documentation that the problem is with 100% certainty diagnosed and resolved, I will never travel with a passenger or a pet in my truck again for fear of engine failure at highway speeds could result in a horrible tragedy! I have been very lucky not being rear-ended or even worse with the two engine malfunctions; I pray my luck continues as FORD has no answers for me!

The brakes are hesitant to stop while creeping forwards, then they slam on. There is also a clunking noise when stopping, usually hear it around the last five ft of the stopping distance. I have 11k miles and just needed to replace the transmission. I lost acceleration while on the highway, no warnings or engine light until a few hours after this happened. Dealer stated that this was the transmission. The truck would also almost lock in place while in drive and not level (like at a red light). It would not let go for a few seconds after releasing the brake pedal. I was also told this was the transmission. After the transmission was replaced, the same day, my engine started making a very loud clunking noise and lurching forward while parked in the driveway. This is the Hybrid version of the 2022 Ford Maverick. This is unsafe in general. Losing acceleration on the highway could have caused an accident, luckily did not. Also not being able to move when the traffic light changes poses the same safety risk. This truck is currently back at the dealership undergoing investigation to the the loud noises in the engine. I was also told that the airbag recall would not be fixed unless they deploy.

Two issues with my 2022 Hybrid Maverick: First, the brakes are unpredictable. Often in slow moving situations, the brakes fail to engage until I ultimately have to floor the pedal often causing a grinding noise and abrupt stop. Attempts to slowly brake sometime fail. Passengers in truck are thrusted forward when this occurs and I often feel like I am going to rear end someone. Brakes will be assessed next week at my local FORD dealer in conjunction with the engine problem. For a SECOND TIME my ENGINE FAILED WHILE ACCELERATING on 55 mph highway. As I normally accelerated to cross the Choptank River bridge in MD, the engine revved but the car failed to accelerate, the engine malfunction came on and a red box saying to pull over safely. Having experienced this before, I knew I had to get off the highway. I barely made it across two lanes of traffic to pull off to the adjacent fishing pier. I noticed my electric power was a low as my window would barely move. I turned off the car and called my dealer. They advised that I could get a tow or if I felt safe, and the car turned back on, to drive it in even though the malfunction light was still on. So I drove it home Friday night and it goes to the dealer on Monday. However, this engine failure happened to me once before in early December which required a tow in to the dealer. Again, I was normally accelerating on RT.695 when the engine revved but the truck slowed/stopped in a exit/merge area. I did not have enough power to get to the shoulder so I managed to pull over into the small area of the merge/on ramp. At this time my car went into a Deep Sleep, nothing worked. Once towed to the dealer, they assessed my car had an "old" battery in it and replaced it. Guess it wasn't the battery since my engine has failed again. Also, since the first engine failure, my overall gas mileage only averages 35 mpg but before these episodes I averaged 41mpg for 8 months. Feeling VERY UNSAFE in my Maverick now!

My hybrid has an occasional shudder/rattle/vibration noise when the gas engine switches off. Started around 1900 miles on the odometer. Occurs at all speeds with the most noticeable shudder/rattle/vibration noise when stopped. I was worried that the transmission may cease to work and leave me stranded in traffic. There were no errors codes and no warning lights. Has been at the Ford dealer for 26 days as of today with no resolution nor a diagnosis.

When switching from gas engine to electric, the gas engine shook/vibrated violently causing the entire truck to shake like I went over rumble strips. It vibrates quite often when switching from gas to electric and vice versa but this time was dramatically different. P.S. There are no rumble strips by my house.

Dec 29, 2022

During driving, the truck will shudder during the transition from electric operation to ICE operation. The car hesitates during this problem. I've taken the truck to the dealer but they couldn't verify the problem. This problem has occurred several times over the past year.

Dec 12, 2022

While attempting to accelerate to pass, the engine shut down and a warning displayed to pull over as soon as possible. The engine check light displayed and I only had electric motor operation. There was no power to continue to pass and I was able to return to an open lane and pull off the road without any further incident. I was lucky that the road was fairly open and there was no oncoming traffic. This is the third time this has happened and each time was while attempting to perform rapid acceleration in "normal" hybrid mode.

Dec 4, 2022

New incident for me on a recent road trip. I had the check engine light activate once on me back in May when I was on the interstate with cruise set around 75 MPH and I hit the accelerator to go around someone. Just the Yellow/Orange light and it disappeared a day later. On this last trip, same scenario, but the vehicle threw a RED powertrain failure light and went into limp mode. The dash instructed me to pull over when safely possible. Power to accessories(but not HVAC) was on, but drivetrain was not functioning. Luckily, once I got over to the shoulder, I was able to reset the vehicle by doing a complete shutdown of the vehicle. It took a couple of tries, but it came back to life. We were able to continue on with no issues at all other than a Yellow/Orange engine light that disappeared in a couple of hours of continued interstate driving. This has now happened three times total all under the same driving situations.

[XXX]: Got it. And may I ask when you took your vehicle to be seen by Ford Lincoln Fairfield? [XXX]: currently my vehicle is 39,000 miles [XXX]: Nov 14 2022 [XXX]: Thank you! [XXX]: Please allow me 2-3 minutes to research this for you here on my end. [XXX]: ok thank you [XXX]: I am still checking on that for you [XXX], thanks for holding! [XXX]: Sounds good thank you [XXX]: Thank you for holding for me, [XXX]! So that I can best assist you, can you please clarify for me what it is exactly that is occurring with your vehicle? You mentioned that your vehicle will not turn on, is that correct? [XXX]: yes well the truck died while running in the road, while driving suddenly no sign of power or electricity and without warning became unresponsive in every aspect regarding to electricity (Breaks, Steering wheel, Parking break, Transmission, airbags) given the case the truck is hybrid everything stopped working. After that the truck did not start again no ignition total loss of power. [XXX]: Thank you for clarifying that for me, [XXX]. I can only imagine how much of an inconvenience this all must have been for you. I want to also ask, what did Ford Lincoln advise about your warranty coverage when your vehicle was inspected? [XXX]: Well to my disappointment I was told that is was covered the after like 2 weeks they called me back that warranty was not going to cover it [XXX]: So that is unacceptable for me [XXX]: I can understand your disappointment, as having unexpected repair expenses can be quite the burden. If you don't mind me asking, did Ford Lincoln Fairfield provide a reason as to why the warranty would not cover your vehicle's current concerns? [XXX]: No any reason it just said that it was out of the warranty that the bumper to bumper is like 36,000 [XXX]: I mean my truck has an airbag recall and won't be fixes until 2023 according to my research [XXX]: So to me this kind of unsafe vehicle should be bigger than a recall INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Accelerated to merge onto highway. Vehicle alerted to pull over safely when possible. Internal combustion engine shut off and vehicle "limped" in electric only mode until I could find a spot to park. This all happened while traveling at 70MPH on a busy freeway. Once I shut the vehicle off, I was able to start it again and travel to my nearest dealer. Dealer was unable to diagnose the issue but advised it was safe to drive home to our local dealer. Truck is currently at local dealer being diagnosed. One CEL of note was P0811 (clutch slippage). This truck is nearly brand new with fewer than 12,000 miles on the odometer. I have had similar Check Engine Lights with similar results of not being able to diagnose. However, this incident of power loss at highway speeds with my wife and 3 children in the vehicle was unacceptable.

Maverick Hybrid brakes are inconsistent. Sometimes you can brake smoothly, sometimes you cannot and the brakes will grab suddenly and lurch. Using Adaptive Cruise is miserable because the truck lurches back and forth and feels like it can't transition between friction and regenerative braking. There are no warnings on dash, truck has 1,000 miles. It is dangerous because getting more braking force than you anticipated can lead to being rear ended and not getting the brake force you anticipate can cause you to rear-end someone else.

Oct 25, 2022

While driving , at times the transmission suddenly stops responding when gas pedal is pushed. The engine revs but the transmission does not engage and the truck drifts to a stop. This happens every once in a while, not predictably. If you turn off the engine and wait a few minutes the transmission seems to reset itself and then drives normally for a while. Very dangerous when driving in traffic at high speed, to suddenly lose power and come to a stop. So far I’ve been lucky enough to be able to get off to the side of the road onto the shoulder. The Maverick is in for service now and I’ve told them that other Maverick owners are reporting this on owners forums.

At 6k miles my early build 2022 ford maverick hybrid died entirely while sitting in the garage. The truck can be jumped but will not hold a charge beyond that one use. The battery is fine according to the dealer, but it appears internal connections are not correct, causing the truck to die after every use. Ford is saying this might not be under warranty when the truck is an obvious lemon. Other owners are reporting the same issue with the hybrid models on various internet pages. It seems to be a common issue that should be subject to a recall.

Oct 2, 2022

Car would not accelerate under full power. When I fully depressed the gas pedal, the power meter (hybrid gauge instead of rpm) would only go up to 45%, the engine sounded like it was revving high but the car barely made any power. After a few minutes of this happening I got a message in my instrument cluster to immediately stop the vechicle, along with a red triangle with exclamation point dash light, at which point the car lost power, and started decelerating rapidly (as if in full regeneration mode (electric braking)) in the middle of the highway. I barely had enough time to get over 2 lanes of traffic and stop on the shoulder. I tried turning off the car, and on and the shifter wouldn't even go out of the P position (I physically couldn't turn it.) After a couple minutes I tried starting car again at which point car started with the check engine light on and drove normally like nothing ever happened.

Vehicle on multiple occasions exhibits a dead condition (no power delivery from battery). Essentially nothing is operating requiring a jump to reset the vehicle. Ford was unable to resolve on the first visit. Concerned that the vehicle will suddenly die while operating. Multiple occurrences of "dead vehicle" reported by hybrid owners

With the initial instance (it has happened 3 separate times), I was traveling on the interstate on the way back from Tennessee to Georgia and stepped on the accelerator (basically punched it) to get around a big rig, all of a sudden I get a "tow truck" icon on my dash and the accelerator is unresponsive, so I think I was in electric mode only if that. Fortunately, I was close to an exit and was able to coast to a stop in a parking lot. I put it in park, whereby the shifter dial then locked into park, could not change it. My wife read a blog on the internet (the owners manual is useless) to wait a few minutes and everything should work, that turned out to be true, so we were able to be on our way, but scary as heck to be on the highway and your vehicle suddenly shuts down. My Ford Pass app showed a "High Voltage Battery warning" message and also the MIL (check engine light came on solid and stayed on for at least another day, but eventually went out. This happened 2 other times, the exact same scenario, but this time light to moderate acceleration. I believe my safety was put at risk because the vehicle was rendered useless while traveling at high speeds on the highway. My dealer had it for 2 weeks, and said they read some transmission codes but tell me Ford doesn't know what to do to fix the issue at this point.
