AUTOMATIC REVVING INCIDENT 1 DATE: November 25, 2025 TIME: about 4:05pm LOCATION: [XXX] WEATHER: Slight rain, around 37º F VEHICLE STATUS: In Park, heat dial turned on. DESCRIPTION OF ISSUE: Turned key to on position while in park. ICE engine immediately turned on and revved all the way, as if the accelerator pedal was pressed down all the way. Pedal was NOT under floor mats. Immediately turned key to off position, let sit for a moment. Turned key to on position again and issue seemed to be resolved. No check engine lights or other codes were showing on the dash cluster. AUTOMATIC REVVING INCIDENT 2 & 3 DATE: December 2, 2025 TIME: about 4:05pm LOCATION: [XXX] WEATHER: Clear, around 27º F VEHICLE STATUS: In drive, heat dial turned on. DESCRIPTION OF ISSUE: Turned key to on position while in park. Heat was on. Immediately turned dial to “D,” and engine proceeded to again rev all the way up. However, this time, full power was transferred to wheels, causing vehicle to attempt to lunge forward. Luckily, I was on an icy patch of the road, and the tires spun instead of gaining traction. I immediately slammed the brakes and turned the car off. Waited about 2 minutes and then turned key to on position, and the exact same thing happened again. No check engine lights or other codes were showing on the dash cluster. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

This exact situation has occurred twice in the past 6000 miles driven. Both occurred while driving at highway speeds, once on I85N and once on I75N in GA. Our 2023 Ford Maverick XLT Hybrid suddenly and unexpectedly loss power and shutdown. This forced us to make an emergency stop and attempt to pull over in high speed, heavy traffic in both instances. The vehicle eventually restarted and was drivable with a check engine light illuminated. The DTCs were read with an OBDII scanner and were recorded as P0811, P0E71 and P1920. The first time this occur the vehicle was taken back to Ford under warranty and they said they reprogrammed the PCM and another control module and assured us it was repaired. Obviously that is not the case. The vehicle is currently with Ford being diagnosed. Please follow up on this one. We're not the only Maverick Hybrid owners to have this unfortunate and very unsafe experience. This situation of a vehicle suddenly dying in heavy traffic is going to get someone killed. Thanks in advance for your consideration in this matter. We would like a better explanation from Ford besides "We reprogrammed a computer".

The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the "Service Engine Immediately" message was displayed. The contact stated that the vehicle started losing motive power. The accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle decelerated to 5 MPH. The contact stopped and had the vehicle towed to a dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred. The contact used a handheld scanner and retrieved DTC: P1061 (Faulty Rod Bearing). The vehicle was towed to the same dealer, but the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred, and the vehicle was towed to the same dealer where it was determined that the long block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact spoke with a mechanic and was informed that the failure was related to Customer Satisfaction Program: 23N06 (Long Block Replacement). The manufacturer was contacted for confirmation that the vehicle was covered under the CSP; however, the contact was informed that the vehicle was not covered under the CSP. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

While traveling 80 MPH using cruise control, the vehicle speed suddenly reduced and several warning lights illuminated. The three warnings were Pre-Collision Assist Not Available, Service Engine Soon Warning, and Powertrain Malfunction / Reduced Power. The accelerator pedal did not work but I was able to coast to the nearest exit. I stopped, turned the vehicle off and back on a few times but the warning lights would come back on. When I shifted the transmission into Drive the vehicle would take off on its own. I drove the remaining 30 miles just letting the vehicle accelerate on its own because the pedal did not work. It wouldn't accelerate over 35 MPH. The vehicle would still pull when I applied the brakes. Once home, I turned the vehicle off for an hour. When I turned it on the warning lights no longer illuminated and the vehicle drove normal.

2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid XLT lost all engine power at highway speed in the left lane of [XXX] . Red Warning Triangle with notice to pull over and Check Engine light with codes P0811, P0E71 and P1920. Truck then went completely dead, no electrical indication on the instrument panel and would not start. I towed it to the dealer and they said they reset and reloaded software on the PCM and BCM, but no explanation of what caused the issue to occur. Very unsafe for everyone if these hybrid vehicles can just go dead like this with no warning and no prior issues. While driving down US-69, while attempting to pass a vehicle at about 80 mph, the vehicle shut off and proceeded to stop accelerating, as well as started to slow itself down. The instrument cluster flashed quickly before shutting off, and the radio also shut off. The cabin lights came on, and I had to switch to the right lane to quickly get onto the side of the road where it gradually slowed itself down and threw itself into park. I had taken the key out, and simply turned it back on, and everything seemed to work as normal after the fact. There were no indicators that this would happen, it was sudden and almost caused me to get rear ended by a semi truck.

Loss of motive control ongoing issue. This is documented problem being investigated by NTHSA, R2Q4014. Functional issue: • Engine flips into Neutral unexpectedly. Vehicle coasts to a stop, where it flips into Park on its own. • Vehicle requires a restart to move gear out of Neutral. After restarting vehicle, vehicle can operate on limited power that maxes out at about 35 mph. Acceleration is dramatically reduced, gradually ramping up as the vehicle continues to drive — the acceleration pedal does not control speed. Coming to a complete stop while driving with the vehicle in this reduced power mode requires another gradual ramp up to speed, making typical street driving difficult because it may take 30-45 seconds for the vehicle to ramp up to adequate speed (ramp from zero to 35mph), frustrating other drivers behind he vehicle who may think the slow speed is intentional. • After the vehicle has sat powered down for a number of minutes, it can be started up again at full power. I have seen this refractory period as low as 15 minutes and as high at 45-ish minutes. This issue has happened to me multiple times, 9 as of last count. Ford has attempted a fix twice now, and the issue persists. I would be happy to discuss full experience and how Ford has responded, or rather not responded, with your investigative team. Thank you for looking into this issue.

On 1028/24, driving at approximately 55 mph in the right lane of a local highway, the front collision braking system engaged almost totally stopping my vehicle. There were no vehicles, animals, nor pedestrians in front of my vehicle. I was able to pull to the shoulder. The collection detection icon appeared on the screen, as well as the check engine light, and the wrench. Then a message saying collision warning system unavailable, then service vehicle immediately. The drive gear dial remained in drive (D) position and was flashing. From there, with my warning light activated, I was able to get the vehicle to go up to 25 mph in order to drive to the Ford dealership nearby. I was told by the service department that they operate on appointments only, I would "try to look at it soon." The Ford Pass App states a powertrain malfunction, pre-collision assist not available, and service engine soon warning. Even if the system resets itself when vehicle turned back on, it is totally unsafe to drive in traffic not knowing if these systems will unexpected fail again, causing an accident and injury. I understand that this problem has occurred with other drivers on this model in the recent past.

I have just recently bought a brand new truck, a hybrid model. Not a single mile on it when I purchased it, and I strongly feel that I almost died or caused an accident, completely not my fault but the truck’s fault. This has happened on 3 separate occasions. The first two times, as I was driving up the highway on a mountain road, I lost power, but just kind of chalked it up to maybe the fuel sloshing around, and no other vehicles were around me. The third time, I was returning home from work, on a busy 4-lane highway that goes across the pass and over the mountains, I was in the left lane, a semi truck was to my right, and a semi truck was behind me, we were passing the slower truck that was on the right, and I was traveling at around 55 mph, the truck completely shut off and was flashing red at me to pull to the side of the road. I lost all power, the steering, gas, and everything was not working. I need to mention that I was in front of semi truck, a larger truck that cannot stop on a dime, so he had to swerve to miss me, as I did not have control of the truck. The slower truck went by me and there was a another pickup truck behind him, and there was a little bit of a gap between them, so I jerked the wheel over and drove into the ditch. It was absolutely frightening, and kind of switched something in my head that I was very close to causing a large crash and maybe a death, of myself or someone else. I was in the ditch and the truck would not start back up. Nothing worked. To add to that, I was in a spot of the mountains that I do not get cell phone service. So I popped the hood and just sat there trying to turn the ignition and start the vehicle. 30 minutes passed and I slammed the hood and got back inside the truck and this time the truck turned over, but it said it was running on electric only, and the check engine light was, so I was able to limp home which was about 30 miles away, driving 20-30 mph. It sent the codes to my phone and I contacted the dealer.

On 7/27/24 I was driving my 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid with approximately 17,500 miles on the New York State Thruway @ approximately 70 mph. All of a sudden without warning the vehicle lost propulsion power. All types of warning lights appeared on the dashboard and the vehicle slowed down to 35mph. I could not control the acceleration or speed of the vehicle with the gas pedal. The vehicle stayed at 35 mph unless I applied the brakes. I was able to exit the interstate several miles down the road and have the vehicle towed to the nearest Ford dealer. This vehicle malfunction caused an extremely dangerous situation as I was almost rear ended several times by vehicles approaching from the rear that were not aware of my lack of ability to keep up with the flow of traffic. Ford repaired the vehicle 3 days later. When I was at the dealer picking up the car I was informed this is a very common problem with the Hybrid model. This needs to be corrected before someone is killed because of this common malfunction.

I have a 2023 For Maverick hybrid pickup. While driving on the highway at about 70-75 miles an hour, the engine abruptly shut off. I had to carefully make my way to the shoulder while cars zipped by. Scary and very unsafe. My wife was hysterical and does not want to ride in the truck anymore. Once stopped at shoulder, I turned the ignition to the off and on positions several times. The gas engine would not crank. Three or four messages scrolled on the screen: "Service engine immediately," "Pre-collision assist not available," and others I don't exactly remember. When I would turn the ignition to on, the electric engine would start but when I accelerated in Park, the gas engine did not accelerate, not did it work in Reverse, Neutral or Drive. I was able to limp off the highway about 30 miles and hour under what I presume was electric battery power with my hazard flashers on and park at a gas station. I had to have the truck towed to the dealer on a Saturday night at a cost of $400.00 and leave it for repairs. The Service Department told me the truck was not giving any error codes and they were trying to get further guidance from Ford. They required extensive driving and time to input and test Ford updates. The final result was that they were not able to verify any issues after performing additional PCM updates. I was advised they are all done and will deliver the truck tomorrow Wednesday. However, they still don't know what caused the power failure. I have seen numerous similar incidents being posted about on the Internet.

[XXX]: Driving to work on the highway during rush hour. My vehicle started slowing down and wouldn't go out of neutral. The instrument panel lit up and the display panel brought up collision ahead. A lot of other codes and things popped up as well. I avoided being hit by a semi truck and was able to pull over to the shoulder. I turned my vehicle off and on. The vehicle went into drive and i to got it off the highway. It was in limp mode after that. I tried turning the vehicle off and on several times, and to no prevail. I called a tow truck to have them take it to the dealership. Keep in mind that this happened so fast and I was more worried about getting out of the way to avoid a collision. To hear that this is a recall is ridiculous. I drive with kids in the backseat, and I will never feel comfortable driving this vehicle again! I waited 9 months to get the maverick and I've had nothing but issues. Under 5k miles, I had a code pop up saying they detected air in the engine compartment. I was on the road trip to Canada at the time. I spent my vacation worrying if I was going to make it home. Luckily I did and it needed an "update". 2 other times, my left blinker failed. When it failed, my hazard lights would go off. Zumbrota ford "fixed" it the first time. Only for it to happen a month later. Zumbrota ford said they didn't know what the issue was, but they "fixed it". Now I had this even occur where the vehicle would go into neutral and limp mode. I'm not taking anymore chances, risking my life, driving this ford maverick. I've wasted so much time dealing with issue after issue and have missed several days of work. I just want a SAFE functioning vehicle. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I was driving at 60-70 MPH on the highway and lost gas power. The electrical power in the hybrid motor continued working, but I was unable to accelerate or maintain full speed. IMPORTANT: I had this very thing repaired in accordance with a previous recall and an identical issue in January, approximately five months ago. I am reporting in case an additional recall and new software patch is needed.

I had an accident with sudden loss of power

May 23, 2024

Yesterday, May 22nd, my 2023 Hybrid Maverick stalled while I was in the middle lane. Fortunately I was able to quickly get over to the shoulder but had absolutely no power. The D-drive gear position light was blinking orange light. Warning message came up on the dash, saying the vehicle won't operate in that gear. I looked down and the shift wheel was in the drive position, but the orange light was not lit on the shifter. I then got error messages, Service Engine Soon Warning, Powertrain Malfunction/Reduced Power Warning, Pre-Collision Assist Not Available Warning. This was really rattling, to have a modern vehicle, with only 20,000 miles stop operating in heavy traffic. It is the second time, this incident happens. The last time was on March 25th.

May 21, 2024

My vehicle stopped while driving down the road. I received the following errors: Gear Selected Will Engage at Low Speed Powertrain malfunction/reduced power Pre-collision assist not available Service engine soon warning Service AdvanceTrac Hill assist not available I was able to pull my vehicle off the road and get it parked. After letting it sit, I was able to get my vehicle started with only an engine light error. I attempted to take my vehicle to Anderson Ford in Rockford and they were confrontational. I just wanted to leave my vehicle and get a loaner, but they wouldn't confirm an issue and told me to leave my vehicle and fend for myself. They must know there's an issue and they want nothing to do with fixing the issue. They were willing to put me at risk instead of trying to help.

May 20, 2024

On Friday, May 17th around 2:00pm I was driving approximately 25mph when I got an abrupt warning and the truck started to drive differently. I don’t think the vehicle was responding to the gas pedal normally. The first warning said something about selected gear engaging at lower speed. Then there was a message about the pre-collision assist not working, hill ascent not working, and something else - reduced powertrain/service engine soon/advancetrac or something like that. As I pulled over and was slowing down, the truck abruptly threw itself into park while going 5-10mph. I turned it off and then back on and put it in drive. The truck began accelerating without my foot on the gas pedal. My truck got all the way up past 20mph before I slowed down. I tried to record this with my phone as there was no traffic. I could not see well what I was filming because I was looking at the road. My safety was put at risk because had this happened on the highway or a road with no shoulder, things could have been a lot more dangerous. It was scary enough going at a lower speed on a street without traffic. I noticed after this happened that I had a third open recall for the powertrain control module. If I would have known I had this recall and how serious it was, I would have brought it in immediately. Ford should have done more to ensure vehicles impacted by this recall were contacted ASAP. I brought my truck in to the Ford dealership first thing this morning and I am waiting to hear back. The service agent was aware of this ‘limp mode’ situation occurring. I believe I was the first Maverick owner to bring a truck in for this issue at my dealership. There were no warnings that this might occur. I went from driving leisurely to having to figure out what all the beeping and flashing alerts were and manage to get to the side of the road in a truck that was not driving/responding normally. Then the truck started accelerating without my foot on the pedal! I have a video of this

[XXX] On [XXX] my wife and were traveling on [XXX] at interstate speeds and after traveling for about 55 minutes with no issues. The vehicle suddenly lost power and a lot of warning lights came on. We were unable to accelerate and quickly pulled to the shoulder. [XXX] is very busy and dangerous. It would not move forward while in drive and pushed on accelerator it would not accelerate. We called with Ford Pass for a tow. They towed it to Dickson TN Ford dealership and it is still there. They were to call us once they found out the issue. Been there now 6 days no call as yet from them . Very frustrating, vehicle with 16 K miles and only had a bit over a year and now more issues. Vehicle put in drive, and upon accelerating, lost ability to accelerate while in drive, check engine indicator light turned on and power train warning prompts began flashing while moving avoiding traffic. I pulled over to the side of the road, put vehicle in park and turned off vehicle. Waited a minute, and turned vehicle back on, check engine indicator remained on, as well as power train warning prompt and Pre-Collision Warning Assist not available. Put vehicle in drive and could not accelerate normally, acceleration was delayed when I put my foot on the pedal. I removed my foot off of the accelerator and the vehicle then began to accelerate speed on it's own above 25mph. I then applied the brakes and pulled over again. This continued in the same pattern 2 more times, before I was able to drive the vehicle back to my house, with check engine lights and warning prompts on.

May 6, 2024

Vehicle's engine suddenly cut out during driving ~15 mph. Multiple warning lights flashed. Vehicle ran on battery and was able to go at slow velocity but then transitioned to accelerating when pedal was not engaged. Hazard lights would shut off suddenly after driver turned them on. "Limp mode" is commonly used term for what happened.

May 4, 2024

While driving on [XXX] [XXX] at approximately 9:15 PM vehicle suddenly lost power in the middle of traffic, couldn't keep speed (was driving roughly 70 mph) then started losing speed down to 30 mph although my foot was pressing the gas pedal to the floor. Warning lights came on, a message about being unable to engage a gear, loss of collision sensors and check battery, service engine light came on. Because I was on the truck and car portion of the highway (in further most left lane) I was nearly struck several times. Hazards were going on and off. When I made it to the shoulder I called FORD 24 hour service. I was on an out of town trip from PA to NYC a little more than halfway there. The rep told me Ford policy was to tow to the nearest dealership or within 50 miles, I'd have to cover the rest, quoted at $175 to take me to the dealership of origin & my home. By this time it was after 10:30. I was 49 miles from my destination so I asked for the closest dealership to that. Was charged $22.50 for 4 mile overage. Was NOT informed the tow service couldn't pick me up from the highway, rather was told I'd be texted with an eta, which came 10 minutes later with a 40-70 minute estimate. Then the tow company called to say I'd have to get state police to tow me off highway first, THEN call back with a pick up address. Not wanting to wait on the dangers shoulder ANOTHER 2 HOURS, I had to ride the shoulder with hazards on approximately 1 mile to get off highway. Car wasn't able to go past 30 mph and dropped as low as 10. The service center also gave tow driver wrong address (showroom not service) and tow driver dropped my car off in a tow zone once we found the service center. Disgusted with the lack of accountability and responsibilities, I wasn't safe until 2:30 AM. The next morning called service from hotel to beg for same day appointment as I was stranded, was almost sent home with a "few days or more" diagnostic estimate even after mentioning BCM recall news (no notice y INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM

Approximately around [XXX] a.m, [XXX], I was on my way to on the [XXX] . I was going driving around 75-78 mph when all of sudden my 2023 Maverick drop in speed and power suddenly. I looked at my dashboard and saw mph dropped to around 50. I had no knowledge of what was taking place at the time. I tried to press my acceleration pedal and the mph still was dropping, so I managed to get over to the far right lane so I could get to the shoulder. During this event several warning lights flashed, such as check engine soon, crash assist not available, power train malfunction ect. I turned the vehicle off and back on - it still had the same messages- I managed to drive the 5-10miles I had left on my route to work @ 33mph. Once at safe location I contacted a tow truck to haul my vehicle to Hennessey Ford for diagnostic and answers. I've never had any of these issues to take place since owning my truck. Never experienced Loss of power ever in my life. This is truly a event that has left me stunned and wondering will this truly be taken care of and addressed. It's a constant reminder in my head and and it also has prompted me to thank God for my life as well as others because if I hadn't left home to go to work about 30mins earlier than normally due to the traffic which would be pretty thick I may not be here today to tell this story, because there was no warning whatsoever. After having recall 23E09 performed the vehicle loses power and shifts to Neutral while driving. When this happens I am unable to shift back to Drive. The display reads “Gear Selected will Engage at Low Speed.” The "D" in the gear shift flashes. Once speed is reduced to around 5 MPH, the parking brake turns on automatically. The check engine light turns on, a "gear light" on the dash board is on, along with traction control light. The display then reads, “Shift to Park,” “Service AdvanceTrac,” “Hill Start Assist Not Available,” “Pre-Collision Assist Not Available,” and “Service vehicle soon.” After turning the vehicle off and back on again, the vehicle will drive normally with a check engine light still present. The check engine light eventually turns off until the cycle repeats itself and the same issue occurs again. I had 2 recalls fixed about 3 weeks ago. Today I was driving & my Maverick malfunctioned. (Maybe it's what they call Limp mode.) Many alerts & icons started flashing, I was prompted to pull over & call a dealer. I pulled over, was able to take some pics but some icons were no longer showing. I tried restarting the vehicle after a couple mins = same thing. I shut if off waited a few minutes & it worked. Well, check engine is still lit & some of the safety features won't turn on. I have copilot 360, lane keeping, etc, but most of those features are still affected. I called the dealer & am waiting for a call back. Many other Maverick hybrid owners have told me this happened after their recall fix. I wish I didn't get the recalls fixed.

On [XXX] at approx. 9:30PM I was traveling on [XXX] in Garland, TX, at 70mph when my vehicle experienced a sudden loss of power, with speed immediately dropping to about 35-40mph. Cluster showed prompts saying 1) cannot use selected gear at this speed (light under "D" was flashing), 2) pre-collision not available; 3) Airbags sensor bad; 4) power-train warning; and, several others before telling me engine needed service. When I tried to accelerate it would go no faster than 25mph. When I applied the brakes and released them it would then accelerate to 35-40mph on its own. Engine light started flashing. When able to do so I pulled over and turned vehicle off. I started it back up and engine light stayed lit, but it continued to experience loss of power and go no faster than 25mph. Then I started getting warning lights on the dash: - Gear Selected Will Engage at Low Speed - Powertrain malfunction/reduced power - Pre-collision assist not available - Service engine soon warning - Hill assist not available The car then abruptly slowed down to 35 mph and continued driving at 35 mph even when applying gas. The vehicle would slow down when the brake was applied, however releasing the brake, caused the car to accelerate to 35 mph. The vehicle was inspected by a Ford dealership, however it was the next day, after the car had been turned off for multiple hours. The dealership did not find any active codes, so there was no "fix". Abruptly coming to a stop on the interstate is scary and life-threatening. Ford needs to fix this issue as there could have been a catastrophic accident, had other motorists not been paying attention!

Apr 16, 2024

Driving no more than 40 mph, suddenly “gear shift will engage at low speeds” pops up. At this point there is no acceleration. Then when I get to stop at about 1mp it jerks me into an e-brake, immediately prompting “powertrain error”, “check engine”, “hill climb assist not available”, “collision warning not available”. This all started after the last recall was performed. This is now the second time this has done this. I am lucky it did not do this on the highway itself.

I had just driven roughly 30 freeway miles on my way home and the truck suddenly flashes a barrage of errors, ESC fails, gear selection at low speed message, hill assist disable, pre-collision assist disabled, ABS light is on, MIL is on, service wrench is on, and drive mode selection is disabled. My truck lost all response to gas pedal, slows down and then slams on the parking brake at like 1-2 mph. I shut it down, started it back up. I had no gas pedal input. The truck self-accelerates up to 30-35 mph. I don't know at which speed it would've stopped accelerating because because the speed limit was only 30 mph. I ended up just riding the brakes to keep the speed down for 3/4 mile so I could get home. I went to reverse into my space at home and the truck was self accelerating in reverse as well. Normally it just rolls back slowly, but this truck was really moving. I abandoned the idea of backing in because I was scared it would just drive itself into the wall. I will not go back out on the roads in Los Angeles driving this vehicle until this is fixed, I would knowingly be putting my life and others lives in serious danger. I was fortunate that I had read about this happening in the past few weeks to several other Maverick owners who have had this problem, so I was aware of what was happening when it started and was only going about 30 mph and there wasn't much traffic around because it was a rainy night. This would've been horrifying if I were on the freeway or in moving traffic, which has happened to others. According to what I've found on the internet, this issue it is a result of some bad software installed in a recent recall. I had the recall done on [XXX] when I had an oil change. Not sure if this is appropriate but this is a reddit thread from a month ago with a bunch of other drivers that have had this happen: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

When driving down the road at approximately 35-40mph, the accelerator pedal stopped working and a variety of warning messages and lights popped up on the dash. Some of those messages included "gear selected will engage at low speed", "powertrain system fault", and "pre-collision assist not available". Because the vehicle suddenly became undriveable, it rolled to a stop in the middle of the road. After coming to a stop, I put it in park (I may have restarted the vehicle, but am not entirely sure) and I was able to get the vehicle off the road, albeit with reduced power. Warning messages and lights (check engine, wrench) remained on the dashboard. There were no warning signs prior to this happening The vehicle was towed to a local Ford dealership and has been there for 13 days. I have not heard from them about identifying the problem. The uploaded photo is a screenshot on my phone of the warning messages through my FordPass app.

Vehicle was traveling at 35 MPH. Vehicle shuddered and lost propulsion. Dash displayed following message: "Gear Selected will Engage at Low Speed" The "D" indicator on the shift knob was flashing. Vehicle was able to be pulled to side of road at very low speed. The following error messages were displayed in sequence: "Hill Start Assist Not Available" Pre-Collision Assist Not Available" "Service AdvanceTrac" Additionally, the following error light were iluminated: Check Engine Service Engine Soon Tranction Control Off 12 volt battery error Vehicle was turned off and restarted. The same error messages were displayed. Ford dealer was contacted to schedule a service visit. After a five minute wait, vehicle was able to start and drive, though performance was not as it had been. This morning, error lights remain on

Apr 9, 2024

On the freeway all of sudden the “D” icon on the gear selected started flashing and then I started to receive multiple check engine light error messages one after the other, including: •Gear Selected Will Engage at Low Speed •Powertrain malfunction/reduced power •Pre-collision assist not available •Service engine soon warning •Service AdvanceTrac •Hill assist not available The truck then proceeded to switch into neutral all on its own and upon me trying to move the gear selector back into drive the car had zero power when applying the gas. I had to try to avoid traffic to get to the emergency lane with zero power just coasting to the side of the highway. Based on other Ford Maverick owners' testimony it seems Ford Maverick Hybrids getting a recall update to their Powertrain Control Module are then experiencing unpredictable and recurring instances of their truck suddenly having these check engine and random shutdown issues. It seems this has happened to dozens of owners, often at high speeds in the middle of the interstate. It begins with a sudden cascade of alerts (like 5 different malfunctions and systems shutting down). My Ford Maverick was towed and is currently being inspected at the Ford dealer.

Apr 8, 2024

Driving on highway whent alerts all at once, including * Gear Selected Will Engage at Low Speed * Powertrain malfunction/reduced power * Pre-collision assist not available * Service engine soon warning * Service AdvanceTrac * Hill assist not available. Vehicle lost power on road and almost got hit.

Apr 8, 2024

Leaving a parking spot, after about 75 ft of travel, wrench and engine indicator light lit up along with scrolling warnings instructing service engine soon, service adv trac, hill start assist not available and pre collision assist not available. Vehicle abruptly slammed on the brakes and would not release. After several attempts to resolve the stopping issue, I was able to engage drive and the vehicle allowed me to travel at 34 mph max. There was no throttle and I had to ride the brakes in order to regulate the 34 mph limit. This a unsafe condition that Ford needs to resolve asap.

Vehicle lost power while driving and has many warning notices. Pulled over but when I tried to drive again it accelerated on its own. Pulled over again and turned the vehicle off a few times and then it drive normally but with the check engine light on. Had happened 3 times. Took to Ford dealer 2 times and dealer could not reproduce the issue and gave it back to me.

Apr 4, 2024

On the middle of the road when driving, of a sudden, powertrain malfunction, pre-collision not available message pop up and the service light, check engine light also started blinking on the dashboard. Gas pedal was unresponsive and the truck coasted, was not able to drive, and I was luckily able to merge over into the shoulder. Started the truck a few times and the issue persisted. Could move forward with the battery but still no input from the gas pedal. I towed the truck and is with the dealer. But i am really scared to drive it again. I was lucky to be on the slow speed zone road and was able to get out to the shoulder. However, I might have been hit and killed if it happens in the highways. Very scary moment. Ford should take some safety responsibility more carefully.

The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that while pressing the fuel pedal the vehicle would not properly accelerate and had stalled. Also, while at a stop light the vehicle had erroneously accelerated forward. During the failures the check engine, power train and collision avoidance warning lights had illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failures. The dashboard module was reprogramed but after retrieving the vehicle the failures continued to occur. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 9,500.

While driving up hill a check engine light and power train malfunction/ reduced power warning appeared. This caused my vehicle to be unable to accelerate and could have caused the vehicle that was behind me to collide with my vehicle. This is the second time this issue has happened and the dealer I have taken it to has been unable to figure out the issue. As far as I know only my dealer has inspected the vehicle and there were no other warning signs or messages before the malfunction happened.

On two separate occasions (27 February & 16 March) my 2023 Ford Maverick XLT lost power while driving at highway speeds giving the following alerts: • Gear Selected Will Engage at Low Speed • Powertrain malfunction/reduced power • Pre-collision assist not available • Service engine soon warning • Service AdvanceTrac • Hill assist not available After the dealer couldn’t recreate the issue in February they released the truck back to me. As of today, 26 March, the dealer still has my car after the 16 March incident.

While driving the following warnings all came on: Gear Selected Will Engage at Low Speed Powertrain malfunction/reduced power Pre-collision assist not available Service engine soon warning Service AdvanceTrac Hill assist not available Vehicle came to a stop and parking brake automatically engaged. Driver could not control acceleration, gas pedal had no control, and vehicle moved on it's own under electric power. Vehicle would continue accelerating, and the only want to try to control speed was used the brake. Symptoms persisted for several drive cycles, until all the warning lights went off (except for checking engine light), and vehicle went back to normal. After several more drive cycles the check engine light went off. This is the third time this potential life threatening issue has occurred. Dealer has not been able to resolve the issue.

Vehicle was going down the highway around 70 mph and suddenly warning message appeared on display that the select drive has been disengaged and the brake light ( lower right of instrument panel ! Red brake illuminated and the engine stop propelling engine and started to brake and slow down. Had to coast to the shoulder and car was not running and brakes were still applied even I was not applying the brakes . This is the second time it acquired. Second time was after Ford dealership had again done an ecm update and said the issue was resolved.

Driving at approximate 25 mph when three warnings came on simultaneously and the vehicle abruptly lost power and I was required to pull off the road. The vehicle could not go any faster than 15 mph. Fortunately I was not running on the highway when this occurred. The three warnings are as follows. 1. SERVICE ENGINE SOON WARNING 2. POWERTRAIN MALFUNCTION / REDUCED POWER 3. PRE-COLLISION ASSIST NO AVAILABLE The vehicle was towed to dealer and is awaiting diagnostics.

Vehicle at Ford dealer on 3/7/24 for two separate recalls, Emission Recall 23E09 and Compliance Recall Notice NHTSA 23V848 where the BCM and PCM were reprogramed and updated. The vehicle operated normally before the dealership service for the recalls. On 3/18/24 after the recall service was performed, while driving along a state route of speed limit 55, the vehicle suddenly lost power and displayed the following indications on dashboard: Service Engine Soon, Pre-Collision Assist not available, and Powertrain Malfunction/Reduced power. The vehicle was able to be pulled over safely to the side of the road. The vehicle was able to be restarted but at a significant loss of power with the same warning lights displayed. Safety was compromised as the vehicle lost power and speed and could only be operated a short distance. Thankfully other vehicles were able to avoid me at my significantly diminished speed and I was able to turn on warning flashers and pull to the side of the road no faster than 10mph. The vehicle was towed to a Ford dealer, who had the vehicle for 3 days, where they confirmed with their scan tools the warning lights had come on and the power had diminished when the incident happened, but were not able to reproduce the symptoms. Technician noted there were no SSMS or TSBS from Ford or otherwise for these concerns and was given back to me at no charge. Incident happened on March 18th, 2024 and is available for inspection.

Truck died in the middle of a busy road. I was able to pull over and let it sit. Started it up, got another couple miles down the road, and it died again. Full plethora of warning messages. Let it sit some more - it started and I was able to drive it home. Pulled the codes: U1011 and U1028.

I took my ford Maverick to dealer for the recalls for three recalls: 24c01,23c41 & 23e09. About 1 hr later driving on highway the engine lost all power, gearshift knob was flashing; warnings started flashing , hill start assist not available, service soon, pre collision assist not available, service power trac( I think) , check engine light came on & a wrench illuminated on dash. Went from 55-60 mph to a crawl in a few seconds. Fortunately was able to pull off-road. As soon as I touched brake pedal the emergency brake applied automatically & I slammed to a halt. After about 5 minutes & turning ignition on & off a few times everything worked again. Check engine light remained on but turn off the next day. I called dealership and they had no idea. Said to bring in again. This occurred on 3/6/24 and again on 3/10/24, both times identical situation. Both times I was fortunate no one behind me and room to get pull on shoulder. I posted this on the Maverick forum online only to discover it is happening to many people that have had the recalls done. Some their engines stopped on the freeway, going from 70 to a crawl in seconds. One person mentioned they almost got nailed by an 18 wheeler rig. I called the dealership to let them know what I found out online and they had no idea or how to correct. Whatever the recall did ( seems to be the recall associated with emissions - from online discussions) ford needs to correct. This type situation is an accident waiting to happen and putting lives in danger.

Hello! I just had RECALLS completed on [XXX] and drove car on [XXX] at 75mph speed (in Texas) and within 1 hour of driving the vehicle began flashing same issue mentioned and brought speed down to MAX 35mph with NO FOOT on pedal. Almost got hit by 18 wheeler! Took it to dealer and 300 miles plus they drove and could not replicate issue. Gave vehicle back and it happened again [XXX] at 70mph ... Definitely believe it was the update that caused the issue. Extremely dangerous and SCARY too say the least to have the vehicle stop at such high speeds and have almost no control. While attempting to turn left at an intersection, my hybrid vehicle suddenly became unresponsive. The dashboard lit up with several warnings and it would only idle using its electric motor. It would then accelerate to top electric-only speed despite me not applying my foot to the accelerator. My safety and others was put at risk because I was turning left at a busy intersection. My local dealer (from whom I purchased the vehicle) cleared the errors and then drove several hundred miles without any errors and without replicating the problem.

I was driving on a freeway and my vehicle went into "Powertrain malfunction/Reduced power mode " and slowed me down from 65 -70 miles an hours to under 20 miles an hour. This almost cause a semi to slam into the back of my vehicle missing me by inches. The dealership is unable to recreate this issue but confirmed it did happen. Ford and the dealership have been giving me a run around with this since they can't diagnose the issue.

This is my second complaint on this vehicle for the same issue. While driving on the interstate my vehicle suddenly loses all power and shuts off. After the initial incident the vehicle was sent to a ford dealership. It was stated on repair order that: found code u1010: invalid internal control module monitoring data reveived from hybrid pcm Correction ford states to check for updates clear codes and retest, if no issues comes back communication network got crowded The vehicle was released to me and the same issue occurred approximately 45 minutes into my trip hard. This is very dangerous to be happening with no resolution from Ford.

Mar 4, 2024

While on the interstate, the vehicle suddenly shut off, leaving the instrument panel fully lit with every warning light. The vehicle was unresponsive and powerless, posing an extremely hazardous situation for myself, passengers and others on the road. After I was able to get into a safe location I attempted to start the vehicle again. It remained unresponsive for quite some time and the vehicle had to be towed to a dealership. A quick google search indicates this issue is becoming prevalent in the Ford Maverick.

Turned the corner to accelerate at normal speed up a slight incline, and gas pedal stopped working. Typically when accelerating up a hill, the gauge on the left will move past the green "battery" section and the engine will kick on, but this time nothing happened. The vehicle slowed to a stop, and I put in park, then put in drive again and it worked seemingly fine. No check engine or any other warning lights were on. This issue has been experienced by several people in the Ford Maverick Hybrid online forum, so I'm not alone. I'm concerned that if this happens when turning onto a road, or merging onto a highway, it could be very dangerous.

This morning I was driving to work (65mph cruise control, 45 degrees F outside, heated seats ON), out of nowhere I felt myself slowing down right after I went over a railroad track (pretty decent bump) on the highway. As I was slowing down I noticed that my cruise control had turned itself off and when trying to turn it back on (pressing set+, set-, and the toggle CC on/off button) it wasn't responding. After realizing that setting my cruise control wasn't working I tried accelerating on my gas pedal but nothing was happening and I was still slowing down. I tried again and noticed that when I accelerated, the needle on the left side gauge wasn't going past the green battery section even when accelerating harder than normal. Everything in the vehicle seemed to be working properly as far as power steering, lights, breaking, dashboard, etc. Eventually I pulled over to the side of the road, put it in park, put it back in drive, and everything was fine for another 70 miles on the day.

I have an issue where my Ford Maverick sometimes, randomly will be nudging, surging, or pulsing forward (I'm not sure how to describe it) despite your foot being on the brake. It occurs most often on cold mornings, when you first start the truck, have your foot on the brake and shift from park to drive, before you release the brake (take your foot off the pedal) you notice the truck is going: bump bump bump bump bump, like a forward nudge push forward. Even though this has mostly occurred first thing in the morning it has occurred at other times while stopped at a red light, stopped in front of a pedestrian crosswalk, and stopped in front of school + children. It's really concerning the despite having your foot on the brake the truck is still trying to lurch forward.

The truck shudders when turning off the ICE and switching to electric. It has progressively gotten worse since around 5000 miles. Group research on online forums suggests this is the damper on the flywheel. Because it's progressively getting worse, even at 8000 miles, I am concerned it will leave me stranded when the whole transmission blows apart. It makes an awful noise that sounds like grinding when the shuddering occurs. It does not happen every time the engine turns off, but the entire transition between electric and ICE is extremely rough.

Aug 9, 2023

Vehicle will not accelerate faster after stopping. Runs at less than 5 mph for 3-4 minutes and will accelerate afterwards. If stop again it will continue stalling during acceleration. Very unsafe in traffic. Rear end collision would take place as the driver id that vehicle is not aware of the stalling.

When I am driving my car and the car goes from the gas engine to the electric engine (at slow speeds. Usually under 40mph) the steering wheel and car will shack or vibrate. Sometimes really violently or sometimes just a little. Now my car makes a really bad rattling sound like metal is bouncing around. Ford saids it’s normal. I have driven other hybrid and never experienced this to this extent. It was scary at first. I thought something happened to my car or I hit something.

Jul 5, 2023

Engine shudders when switching from gas to electric mode. The sound is terrible and only started recently. The 2022 model apparently has the same problem. Sounds like running over a rumble strip. Concerned it may shut off while driving or otherwise. Happens at idle and while driving.
