Ford is unable to perform two safety recalls. The first is over the windshield which can lead to its failure while driving. The second is for the glass roof which can cause a failure while driving. The local dealer in Springfield Illinois says they can not do the work and can not identify anyone locally who will do the work. The dealership with the Ford autobody repair shop in the next town over in taylorville Illinois says they can not do the work. I called Ford customer service and they just sent me to the taylorville shop that said they can't do the work. The windshield or roof can come off and no one will do the repair including Fords own autobody shop. Help.
In mid-November 2023, the authorized Ford dealership Hutchinson Ford of Forsyth, located in Forsyth, Georgia, sold and installed four Toyo A23 tires (size 225/55R19 99V) on my 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E. After approximately 23,000 miles, the tires experienced catastrophic premature wear. Upon investigation, I discovered the dealership had installed tires with a load index of 99. The manufacturer's required specification for my vehicle is a minimum load index of 103. This incorrect fitment created an 880-pound deficit in the vehicle's total load-carrying capacity, posing a severe and constant risk of tire failure, especially at highway speeds. This is a critical safety issue for a heavy electric vehicle. The dealership's management has acknowledged the danger. When I raised this issue, the service manager stated they were "glad something bad did not happen." Despite this admission of the risk they created, they have refused to correct the safety issue, claiming the premature failure is normal wear as the tires are "nearing end of life." This constitutes a dangerous service practice by an authorized Ford dealer, which knowingly left a customer's vehicle in an unsafe condition. I am filing this complaint to document this safety issue and the dealership's refusal to rectify it.
The forward collision detection system failed first. Then the car suddenly would not move and gave a pull over immediately warning on the dash and also flashed a battery light. It was 15 degrees outside and my wife and son were stuck in the cold. Not a safe environment. This is inexcusable for a car to be driving fine on minute and to be completely inoperative the next.
The car had an issue with the 12V battery which caused it to be completely disabled and unresponsive to the key fob and phone as a key. My wife had gotten out of the car without knowing this had happened and went to the rear door to let out our infant son, but the door would not open. We called emergency services and roadside assistance. AAA arrived first and tried to open the lock but were unsuccessful. I had to smash the window to open the door and rescue my son. Emergency services arrived after I had already done this. The only reason I know it was an issue with the 12V battery is because the Ford dealership told me after I had the car towed there for inspection. The only way to open the car in this situation is to use a portable jumper to jump two wires hidden in the bumper which open the Frunk. Then you need to jump the actual battery that is located in the frunk. It does not have a mechanical release for the doors. This supposed fix is highly dangerous as it requires one to have a readily available jumper and the 12V battery needs to be completely drained in this scenario. In my case, this didn’t work even when the Ford technician arrived. The only possible way to get in was to break through a laminated glass window which was incredibly difficult to break even with the correct tool to do it.
The rear camera has malfunctioned. When the vehicle is put into reverse the area usually covered by the rear cameras is blue with white tire tracks indicating the direction the vehicle will travel. Obstructions such as people or other vehicles are covered in blue and not visible on the screen. The dealer has confirmed the problem and ordered replacements in May. In the meantime I am hesitant to drive this vehicle since there have been a couple of near misses in crowded parking lots. This vehicle is available for inspection. I have not received any communication from the dealer. With safety at risk something needs to be done
The backup camera has failed numerous times. The camera will work and then suddenly stop creating a safety risk of hitting a pedestrian walking behind the vehicle when relying on the camera. The dealer has attempted to fix the problem by installing a new camera, new wiring harness, and a new module. The new module installed, under warranty, in February 2024 now requires a software update that only the dealer can perform at a cost of $1200. The vehicle warranty expired in July and Ford is not covering the cost of the update despite the module being new and requiring the update to work properly. It seems that if a part on a vehicle requires a software update to function properly that the part was defective and should be recalled. The dealer has inspected and advises to update the software on the module to regain proper function of the backup camera.
Our vehicle would flash a "Front Camera fault service required" and a "Collision Warning not available" every now and then that started a few months ago. I had it diagnosed by the dealer and they said it would cost me $786.50 to do a major update on IPC, IPMA, PSCM, CCM, CMR, and perform IPMA Alignment per TSB 23-2040. We have to pay this because we are out of warranty. We thought all system upgrades are supposed to be free. Wouldn't this be a flaw on the Mach-e and should be considered a standard safety issue that needs to be corrected at no cost to the car owner? I saw that many owners also have the same issue. Our family including a [XXX] may be at risk because of this. Appreciate your help on this. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
While driving I get a camera alert and a collision avoidance system is not working. Then I have to reset the system by pushing a button on the steering wheel. The car has been in for this problem 3 times since 2022 .Now the 3 year warranty is up and Ford won’t cover the repair. May dealership has been dealing with this issue on a lot of cars. I filed a lemon law suit. They are not going to repair the car or by it back. They to want to give a couple of thousand. But nobody can tell me what the cost will be to fix the car. So I am at a standstill
Tried to have this recall taken care of for the panoramic roof and windshield reseal. Ford Motor company has dictated to us (the dealer) that the glass portion of repair must be sublet to a glass company. We received a bill from glass company to follow Ford's procedure and FOrd is refusing to pay it, meaning we can no longer take care of these safety recalls because they are telling us we are responsible for the $820 difference in order to complete the safety recall as we cannot find a glass company willing to do the repairs for $350.00.
Subject: Complaint against Ford Clermont Dealership - Delayed and Unethical Service I am writing this complaint to express my dissatisfaction with the service I have received from Clermont Ford dealership regarding the repair of my vehicle. My name is [XXX] , and on [XXX], 2024, I brought my car to your dealership in Clermont , Florida, due to faulty warning lights indicating a potential crash issue and malfunctioning mirrors. The vehicle drove fine. There was no other issues. I just wanted to get this taken care of. After inspecting my vehicle, Ford of Clermont dealership informed me that someone had backed into my car, causing minor damage that needed to be repaired. Consequently, I entrusted my vehicle to Ford of Clermont dealership for the necessary repairs. However, it has been an incredibly frustrating experience as my vehicle has now been at your dealership for almost a month and a half, with no end in sight. Throughout this period, I have made numerous visits to the dealership to check on the progress of the repairs. However, each time I arrived, the service representative assigned to my case was conveniently either on a break, out to lunch, or absent altogether. To exacerbate matters, the service representative provided me with a Google Voice phone number that he never answered, but would respond to via text message. This unprofessional behavior has left me feeling neglected and unheard as a customer. Despite my persistent efforts, I have been continuously given the runaround by your dealership. Whenever I communicate with the service representative, I am fed excuses about ordered wrong body parts or being incorrect or delayed. Additionally, my requests to speak with a supervisor have been ignored, as no supervisors have reached out to address my concerns. It is worth noting that after posting a negative review on Yelp, I was promptly contacted by the service department, claiming that there is an electrical issue with my veh INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5
This vehicle has 3 outstanding recalls: 21V711, 21V712, 23V687. The car was purchased new from Orchid Isle Ford in May 2021. They are the only electric vehicle Ford Dealer on Hawaii Island (they operate another non-electric vehicle dealership on the island). On [XXX] I had the annual maintenance performed. I requested that recalls 21V711 & 21V712 be done as well. the dealership declined and stated they would call me when they could do those recalls. They have never called. I started calling the dealership every 3 months beginning in Sept 2022. They have always refused to perform those recalls w/o explanation. In February 2024 I called to schedule the 36-month service and have all 3 recalls done. I was advised that the dealership could not do any of the recalls. I was called on Feb 23 by a person identifying themselves as the owner's sister (Mary) promising they'd make things right and asking for two weeks to arrange for the glass recalls to be done. I have had no contact since and have again been told by the service department that they can not and will not perform these recalls at any time regardless of where I bought the car. On [XXX], I emailed Ford Motor Company's CEO James Farley advising his office of the problem in getting three safety recalls performed on Hawaii Island. I have received no response from him, or any of the other emails sent to other officers of the Ford Motor Company nor have I even received an acknowledgment of receipt. At this point, I can only presume that Ford does not care if recalls are done. Recall 23V687 has the potential to strand me on rural roads where there is no cell service. The two glass recalls (21V711 & 21V712) can potentially cause death or serious injury in an accident. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I have been trying for over one year to get the safety recall work completed. Ford tells me to contact the dealership to schedule maintenance. I contact the dealership and they refuse to schedule service and tell me they will call me when they are able to handle the request. I tried contacting ford and they told me they cannot interfere with the dealership's scheduling process.
In the dark, my wife drove the car. After she had traveled about she noticed that the side mirrors were folded. Since it was dark, she did not notice this until she came to a well lit intersection. She had thought that she was seeing to the rear when changing lanes prior to discovering that the side mirrors were folded. It was a safety issue that my wife thought that she was looking to the rear through the side mirrors however they were not even positioned to see to the rear. There was no warning or indication for the side mirrors being folded. There is a button to unfold the mirrors if they are folded however it is easy to drive without realizing that they are folded in the dark.
Twice in about a week my 12V battery has died without warning. The car is inoperable and there’s no way to open the car doors or even the trunk and front trunk. We’ve been locked out entirely. Left stranded in parking lots waiting for tow trucks. The only fix is jumping the vehicle’s 12V battery. If this happened while you’re in the vehicle you’d be stuck in the car since none of the accessory functions (including locks) function when this happens.

While driving with my 1 year old in the car, there was a car in front of us turning so we slowed down. After it made its turn, the driver (my dad) accelerated to continue on our drive. During the acceleration, we heard a loud noise and the car stopped in the middle of a busy road. The notification came on the dash stating to safely stop because the battery failed. We did not even have a chance to pull over before the car completely stopped and would not move. We were stuck in the middle of a busy road. I called Ford assistance and they sent a tow truck. I had to wait in the freezing weather with my one year old baby for my father to uber home and get his car. There was no other warning prior to the failure. The car is now at Ford where they say they are getting a new battery to replace the failed one. Now i am without a car but more importantly i feared for mine and my childs safety when the car completely stopped in the middle of the road. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone other than the dealer.
Have multiple open recalls. Been trying to get Ford dealer to perform recall work for 4+ months. Dealers don't seem to want to do the work. Can't get them to reply to emails, text or return calls. Have stopped by dealer twice with appointments, but they either didn't order the parts or ordered wrong parts.
Acceleration problem. The in this Mustang Mach E 2021 when I stepped on the 'gas' pedal there was no response then a very slow response, then a leap to a faster speed independent of my pressure on the pedal. I had to break to slow down. This was a constant presence until I was able to get home, about 2 miles away. I was terrified that I had no control over my speed, if I had to get out in front of traffic quickly or if I couldn't stop and my speed keep increasing. My concern is that this was a problem that lead to a recall issued 5/30/2022 and my vehicle was not included, although it met the criteria described in the recall. I think you missed me. My car was towed away on 9/16/23 to Middleton Ford where they can look at it 10/6/23.
Several people with known issue of “pre collision alert” having to replace coax cables and impa camera. I am no longer under warranty and have to pay out of pocket til this becomes a recall. Cruise control will stop working when getting this alert
Dealership said no remedy won't fix car but has recall. But when purchased nothing wrong wug car.. everything changed and the whole world is talking in my head saying weird stuff and stealing all my money and the devil acting weird and life just I go through so much and I list nand confused wtf us gong on
I have been trying to get the 2 open recalls on my vehicle done since November 2021. Ford says my dealer is authorized to do the work however my dealer refuses to do the work as Ford will not reimburse the dealer fully as I was told the dealer has to outsource the work. The two other dealers here won’t do my car as I didn’t purchase my car with them. I have been talking to both Ford customer service and my dealer Windward Ford Hawaii and they both blame each other. IFord said the dealer should be able to do the work while the dealer says they can’t until they work out the payment from Ford. I just want the work done so my car is safe. I don’t think I am the only one in Hawaii that hasn’t had this recall work done yet…and it’s not for lack of trying. Please let me know if there is anything that can be done so that Mach-E drivers in Hawaii can get this recall work done.
Occasional failure of video signal from front camera located above rear view mirror causes Alert pop-up on main instrument display and loss of all Driver Assist feature that utilize the front camera such as: lane departure alert and adaptive cruise control.
Occasional blank/inoperative info screen, typically recovers after reset or re-start, but sudden loss of visibility of ALL settings and controls for heat, navigation, and most importantly loss of the ability to enter backup Start code for keyless start can cause possible stranding in dangerous conditions. Loss of control of heating/cooling could cause loss of visibility if defrost is unavailable, or heat stroke if air conditioning is unavailable. My understanding is that re-designed console screens are available to address this known defect in vehicles built prior to June 2022, but no recall has been issued.
The mach e has a front trunk. I have seen several posts about the front latch failing which includes the emergency release should a child or smaller adult get stuck in the frunk. My mach e did this to me today. As a result I was also forced to drive with the frunk half open to get my car back home until I can get it serviced.
After latest software updates, the Mustang MachE gets stuck in the guest profile regularly. These profiles are responsible for controlling driver aids, one pedal driving, etc. When stuck, my vehicle removes one pedal driving and the car moves unexpectedly. One pedal driving holds with no break, this is removed and the car creeps when break removed, this nearly caused the car to crash through the garage. This could injure people in parking lots, etc. There are many other driver aids controlled by the profile which could unexpectedly get disabled. I have personally figured out how to reset and recognize this after nearly crashing the car into the garage, but Ford has issued no communications to their customers on how to recognize and revert when this issue occurs. When manufactures issue over the air updates, the need to be responsible for communicating issues and workarounds to their customers directly. The dealers (any my dealer) have been useless about any software bug and just state, wait for ford.
Phone as a key. My Mach e was only distributed 1 single key and then setup on the PAAK option for the secondary access. Unfortunately this option does not work 100 percent of the time. A second key is needed. My husband left in a separate vehicle with the main key. I had to leave later for an appointment and when I got to my car it would not open. Start. Or respond to the PAAK. I was stranded until he Returned. I went to the dealer for assistance with getting the second key like all other vehicles and was advised they couldn’t help i needed my vin added to the recall for my model Car. Please assist. A Second key is necessary. There was a recall for the same models up to the month before mine and also ones after mine are getting the second key.
On 10/1/2022 when I placed the vehicle in reverse without touching the accelerator, the vehicle on its own accelerated backwards. It has done this x2 other times. Also, with the foot off the accelerator the vehicle has accelerated forward on its own.
The panoramic glass roof fractured in the corner spontaneously while driving, nothing hit the glass, the fracture occurred right above the driver seat in the front driver corner. Dealership is telling me that warranty will not cover the broken glass and I am livid.
My vehicle had the NHTSA Recall Number 22V412 performed 2 weeks ago via an OTA update. Today while driving the vehicle I had critical failure while the vehicle was in motion rendering the vehicle unsafe. It was determined that the part which failed was the part addressed in the recall campaign. The recall should not be considered satisfactory remediation of the issue as it did nothing to prevent this safety concern with my vehicle. Software cannot fix an improperly designed piece of hardware.
Failure of HVBJB after associated recall compliance. One day after recall compliance, “stop safely now” message displayed, vehicle would not power up. Towed to dealership. HVBJB failure verified via FDRS. Dealership replaced HVBJB.
I was driving on the freeway at normal speed when my rear passenger window shattered. My son was sitting next to the window when it shattered and had glass shards all over him.
My car had Ford recall campaign software patch 22S41 applied to it on Tuesday June 28, 2022. On Thursday June 30, 2022 (two days later), my car suffered its second catestrophic failure of its High Voltage Battery Junction Box. This failure was the exact safety problem Ford's recall software patch was representing to "fix". My family and I were driving from SF Bay Area to Los Angeles, and the car exhibited a "Service Vehicle Soon" warning while driving on I-5 South at Castic, CA. My power was limited to only 30% of available power, and I drove to a Ford dealer over 2 hours on local roads without turning off the car from the mountains in an attempt to not be stranded catestrophically. My vehicle is currently having its contactors replaced for a second time in less than 3 months, this time with a different revised part from Ford that has higher engineering tolerances. Ford refuses to offer this part to current owners of the Mach-E, and is awaiting owners to have their vehicles fail catestrophically like mine before providing access under warranty to a part that fixes their serious safety defect. New Mach-Es are produced in the factory with the revised contactors, which Ford would probably not do were the software patch it provides to current owners sufficient to address the safety issue.
Back up camera has intermittently failed to turn on dozens of times causing risk of running over pedestrians, running over objects, or backing into another vehicle. At the first service dealership appointment: the dealership said they couldn't replicate the issue. The second dealership service appointment: the dealership said there was a Ford TSB (technical service bulletin) on the back up camera not functioning and recalibrated the backup camera but that did not fix the issue and the back up camera continued to fail to turn on. Dealership ordered a new back up camera and replaced the back up camera - hopefully that will remedy the issue??
On May 20, 2022, for the second time in a month my 2021 California 1 Mach e has had a catastrophic failure. It is less than a year old with 21,000mi. First time (April 20, 2022) I pulled out onto road after fast charging. Tonight, I started driving out of parking space after shopping. Emergency bells go off, all kinds of alerts and the car dies. You cannot get the gear cluster to turn...at all. Car will not turn off either. If this happens on a highway, it could be life endangering. First time it happened I was in Charlotte and Ford Dealer (Capital Ford) said it was 12v battery issue. Said they fixed it. I took it in to Palmetto Ford in Charleston to have it investigated further and they said it was fixed. That was two weeks ago. Now it's happened again. In second incident on May 20, I called for towing. As truck showed up, my car started normally (i had tried several other times before). I am still taking into Palnetto Ford Dealer. The Ford Motor Company needs to fix this before someone is killed. Documenting this for myself and others. This is happening to other Mustang Mach E...because I have seen the issue written about in online forums. The problem onset is sudden and catastrophic, meaning the car just dies. First time I was on a busy road traveling 30mph and managed to roll into a parking lot. Had their been traffic I could have been hit. Second time, I was in a parking lot traveling 5 mph and blocked an entire lane for 10min. To emphasize: two dealers looked at vehicle after incident 1 and said issue was fixed. Now I have to go back into Dealer again. Thank you for investigating.
Second time this has happened. A message will pop up saying “please stop safely now” once you stop you can not get it out of park. If your driving you are stuck wherever you are. I was stranded the first time with no heat in 20 degree weather. They fixed it after having it for a month then it just happened again today in 80 degree weather with my kids in the car. This has happened to multiple other people as well.
I have been attempting to get two recalls done since November of 2021: NHTSA recall Numbers 21V711 and 21V712. I have called several ford dealers (O'Meara Ford, Larry Miller Ford Lakewood, Groove Ford and Schomp Ford) and no one will either schedule the repair or they will schedule it and then cancel it on the day of the incident. I've been told either ford won't pay enough to get the recall done (Approx. $350 for labor and not being clear on covering the cost of a broken panoramic roof) so the glass subcontractors won't take the job due to liability concerns or that the parts needed, (spare panoramic roof and windshield) in case the glass breaks during removal, have been on backorder so they can't (and won't order) the parts. I have become extremely concerned as the recall notice notes: "INADEQUATE URETHANE ADHESION OF THE PANORAMIC ROOF GLASS MAY RESULT IN INCREASED WIND NOISE, WATER LEAKS, AND OR THE ROOF GLASS MAY LOOSEN AND BECOME DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE, CREATING A ROAD HAZARD AND INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH." So now I'm driving a vehicle for six months where my roof could come off, creating a potential hazard for me and the public driving behind, not to mention the potential damage from leaks could cause to the interior of my vehicle. It seems that neither Ford nor the dealers are taking this issue seriously in the Denver Metro area.
At around 600 miles my vehicle displayed "high voltage battery warning" and "powertrain malfunction" dashboard warning lights. Each light had an associated description that indicated the vehicle's power could fail at any time. This is a 1st model year all electric vehicle. The fact this occurred within 1k miles of ownership is concerning. I took it to a local Ford dealer, ultimately they replaced the high voltage battery junction box and battery electronic control module.
I was driving 70 mph on Hwy 99 in California about 35 miles north of Bakersfield when the car suddenly lost all power. A warning message appeared on the dash "stop safely now." I was able to coast over to the side of the road (there really wasn't much of a shoulder). It was extremely unsafe. The car would not move out of gear, would not start, etc. The car has 1550 miles on the odometer. I waited 1.5 hours for a tow truck to take the car to a Ford dealer. I was 4 hours from home. I am a 71 year old widow. I was traveling alone with my small dog. It was very frightening. The car has been at the dealership for a week. They have no idea what the problem is. The dealer is working with "a Ford engineer" to diagnose the problem. The Mustang Mach-E owners' forums are FILLED with complaints from other owners who are experiencing the exact same problem with this car.
Was driving home and stoped at a business with no issues. Return to car to operate and car not functioning properly. Getting error light “Stop safely now”. Car will not start with power button, will only go into full accessory power mode. The car cannot be switched from park to anything else. R, N, D not accessible. It seems that a system update was recently pushed to the vehicle.
As the vehicle was braking to a stop the rear motors began chattering. The vehicle stopped and gave multiple error messages including "Shift System Fault" and "Stop Vehicle Safely." It locked the parking brake and could not be moved. It was stuck in the road and could not be driven or pushed out of traffic. It was a hazard to the occupants and other drivers on the road. There was no indication before this failure occurred. The dealer was able to confirm that the error codes had occurred but could not reproduce the failure and made no specific fixes other than replugging electrical harnesses..
No clear sound or indication when BlueCruise disengages leading to unexpected behavior.
I hear a lot of wind noise coming from the top panoramic roof
While the blue cruise is enabled in stop and go traffic the car has a electrical malfunction. The car slowed then proceeded to go forward and speed up at an intersection the car stoped in the intersection abruptly would not move and could not shift the car into any gear or neutral. Multiple warnings on dash. First was service select shift next was service advance trac even after turn the car off and trying to turn back on the car was stuck for approximately 5 minutes until the car test itself. Almost got rear ended due to this
The issue I'm describing is an inherent design flaw. This has not been discussed with third parties. The shift knob on this vehicle is a rotary knob with a configuration of PRND. The knob does not have positive stops in any direction and is only interlocked from moving out of park when the vehicle is not on. What this means: To enter reverse from park: Turn knob one stop clockwise. To enter reverse from drive: Turn knob two stops counterclockwise. Forget you are in drive: Turn knob one stop clockwise and drive forward into the nearest object. There is nothing to stop you from doing this. I have owned the car for 6 months and have had several incidents where muscle memory has led me to nearly drive forward into a wall or other cars while parking.
MachE relies on drivers using their phones as a key to get in and drive their vehicle. Ford does this and encourages drivers to not use the key fob, of which they provide only 1, less than the industry standard of 2. The app has a propensity for randomly failing as happened to me today. Could not use the app to get in the vehicle, no amount of rebooting or other phone tests could get me in the vehicle. There is a backup code, but I forgot mine. Luckily I was able to reach my wife and use hers, but that is an unreasonable expectation. What if my wife were incapacitated and I needed to reach her? My car was immobile and Ford believes that is ok? They need to pick one option. Make the phone as key product work or call it an experiment (which it is) and provide all MachE customers two key fobs. There is serious safety impact of this middle road and consumers expect the “key” they are told to use to ALWAYS WORK!!!
Possible stability control system problem. Driving on wet road, following several other vehicles so my speed could not have been excessive. About half way through the corner experienced what felt like the start of a skid. I corrected it and continued on. My concern is that I am wondering if the stability control system malfunctioned and it thought that it needed to do something which then actually started to put me into a skid. I have been driving for about 60 years including significant driving on snow and ice and have never experienced anything quite like what occurred. I only have about 2000 miles on the 2021Mach E so the tires are virtually new.
