Driver side air bag randomly deployed after hitting bump at 40 miles an hour

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that she purchased a vehicle that was not working. The contact had the engine replaced by an independent mechanic. While starting the vehicle, the air bag warning light illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V319000 (Air Bags) and 19V001000 (Air Bags). The vehicle was repaired at the local dealer, but the failure recurred. The dealer informed the contact that a diagnostic test was needed. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 230,272.

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Mustang. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V001000 (Air Bags); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that several local dealers declined to perform the recall repair on the vehicle. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

Did not sustain some sort of accident in order for me to notice thank God, I simply noticed thanks to multiple virtual methods which told me-considering how stupidly fast this car is and how important air bags are whe combined with that I thought id do this. Ford doesn't really care unless it can somehow bleed more money from something so...kinda just letting y'all know. Not much else I can do..other than drive really carefully (5-speed and I suck with Manual :()

For nearly a year now I’ve been in touch with Ford and its dealerships to get this recall rectified to no avail. I spoke to corporate Ford customer care on 2/6/23 and was told that the vehicle in question with the recall will not be repaired due to its age! So I responded on a recorded line to make it clear Ford is refusing to repair the recall and is opening its self up for a major law suit. Mind you my teenage son is the primary operator of the vehicle and Ford simply doesn’t care. Please file a violation to the said recall on our behalf ty.

I have documented eight separate unsuccessful attempts to repair outstanding recalls on my vehicle due to Ford’s repeated refusal and continued failure to provide a loaner vehicle for the duration of the repair. Whether the required time is half-day or one week it makes no difference, I cannot run my business without a vehicle. Please advise how to proceed. Thanks

DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING NORTH ON WILMA RUDOLPH BLVD AT 45-50 MPH IN CLARKSVILLE, TENNESSEE AND ATTEMPTED TO SLOW DOWN WHEN BRAKES DID NOT APPLY. SHE ATTEMPTED TO GO AROUND THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER DIRECTION OF TRAVEL AND REAR-ENDED THE VEHICLE ON THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER QUADRANT. UPON REAR-ENDING THE VEHICLE, SHE HIT HER HEAD ON THE STEERING WHEEL THEN A SPLIT SECOND LATER AS HER HEAD WAS RETURNING TO THE UPRIGHT POSITION THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED. THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED "AFTER" AND "LATE". THIS AIRBAG WAS PART OF A FORD RECALL AND HAD BEEN REPLACED AT OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP. ADDITIONALLY, THE VEHICLE HAD THE BRAKE SYSTEM SERVICED IN DECEMBER OF 2018 AND WE HAD INFORMED THE DEALERSHIP OF BRAKE SYSTEM FEELING "SPONGY". THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND ANY ISSUES WITH THE SYSTEM.

2006 MUSTANG GT: TOOK THE CAR TO HOLMAN FORD DEALERSHIP FOR THE AIRBAG RECALL. WHEN REMOVING THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG THE THREADED HOLES ON BOTH THE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY AND THE HOLES ON THE FRAME OF THE CAR WERE STRIPPED. I WAS TOLD THERE IS NO WAY TO SECURE THE ASSEMBLY BACK ONTO THE CAR SAFELY. THE DEALERSHIP CONTACTED FORD CORPORATE FOR A REMEDY. IT'S BEEN 2 MONTHS SINCE I DROPPED THE CAR OFF FOR THE RECALL AND OTHER NON RELATED REPAIRS. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH CORPORATE AND WAS ISSUED A CASE NUMBER. IT'S BEEN A WEEK WITH NO RESPONSE FROM CORPORATE OR THE DEALERSHIP. I'M CONCERNED THAT IF AND WHEN THE REPAIR IS DONE, WILL THE REPAIR BE DONE CORRECTLY AND WILL THE CAR BE SAFE TO DRIVE. I FEEL AS IF ANY REPAIR IS DONE IT WILL BE JUST BE A QUICK FIX AND NOT SAFE. I'M AT THE MERCY OF THE DEALERSHIP AT THIS POINT TO RETURN MY CAR IN A SAFE AND SECURE CONDITION. I HAVE A FEW PICTURES THE DEALERSHIP SENT ME SHOWING THE STRIPPED THREADED HOLES. AT THIS POINT I'M NOT SURE WHAT COURSE OF ACTION NEEDS TO BE TAKEN. I GET RECALL NOTICES ON A WEEKLY BASIS WHICH INFURIATES ME CONSIDERING I HAVEN'T HAD MY CAR FOR 2 MONTHS FOR THAT EXACT ISSUE.

I KEEP GETTING NOTICES FOR RECALL WITH MY PA ADDRESS ON THEM AND FORD WON'T CHANGE OWNER NAME OR ADDRESS. THEY ACTUALLY SEND THE RECALLS TO ME IN ANOTHER STATE THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN TITLED OR REGISTERED IN. I HAVE TRIED AND TRIED TO GET FORD TO SEND THE RECALL NOTICES TO MY FORMER SPOUSE WHO HAS THIS VEHICLE. WE ARE NOT ABLE TO COMMUNICATE TO EACH OTHER DUE TO "NO CONTACT" ORDERS IN PLACE. I THINK MY FORMER SPOUSE HAS A RIGHT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED BUT I CAN'T OR HAVE ANYONE I KNOW FORWARD THESE NOTICES TO THEM AND FORD JUST SITS THERE AND DOES NOTHING. METAL SHRAPNEL WILL EXPLODE IF AN ACCIDENT OCCURS, I WANT TO KNOW IF I QUALIFY FOR A RENTAL CAR FROM MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP DUE TO THE DANGERS OF DRIVING IF AN ACCIDENT OCCURS. THE DEALER (RT 12 GREENE NY 13778) HAS SAID (3 DIFFERENT CONVERSATIONS WHERE THE STORY CHANGED) THEY DON'T HAVE ANY AND ARE NOT ALLOWED TO ORDER THEM. THEY TOLD ME IF AND WHEN FORD DECIDES THEY SEND A LIMITED # TO THE DEALERSHIP. I WANT TO KNOW HOW TO GET MY AIRBAG REPLACED IF THE DEALER CAN NOT GET THEM IN. I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER IN THE MAIL ON 3/2018 HOWEVER FORD IN PUYALLUP IS NOT RECEIVED ANY REPLACEMENTS AS OF TODAY. I TRIED CALLING THE NUMBER ON THE LETTER BUT IT SAYS INVALID RECALL NUMBER (17S01) AND I CANNOT REACH A HUMAN. IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY CAR OR NOT?

TAKATA RECALL - 16V-384. ON 4-16 I CALLED THE LOCAL FORD DEALER (INTERSTATE FORD, COLORADO) AND TOLD THEM I WANTED TO GET MY RECALL PERFORMED ON MY VEHICLE. THEY TOLD ME THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAIL. HERE IN CO BUT ONLY IN THE HUMID AREAS. I TOLD THEM THAT I OFTEN TRAVEL TO HUMID AREAS AND THAT I WOULD LIKE THE RECALL PARTS INSTALLED. THEY TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO TALK TO FORD TO GET PARTS AS THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP CENTER AND THEY, WENDY (2188296), TOLD ME THAT THEY DID NOT KNOW WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BE AVAILABLE AND THAT I WOULD JUST HAVE TO WAIT. I TOLD HER WHAT I TOLD INTERSTATE FORD SERVICE DEPT. SHE TOLD ME IT WOULD BE OK FOR ME TO TRAVEL WITH A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT, WHICH IS OPPOSED TO WHAT FORD HAS STATED. SHE THEN TOLD ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO CALL BACK TO THE DEALER TO BE PUT ON A WAIT LIST FOR THE RECALL AS THEY COULD DO NOTHING AND KNEW NOTHING ABOUT PARTS AVAILABILITY. I TOLD HER THAT I NEEDED THE PARTS NOW, AS THE DEALER AND HER STATED THAT SOME DEALERS DO HAVE THE RECALL PARTS NOW (CONFLICTING STATEMENTS WERE MADE IN THE SAME CONVERSATION). I TOLD HER THAT I WANTED FORD TO GET THE PARTS SENT TO MY LOCAL DEALER TO HAVE THIS FIXED. SHE TOLD ME SHE COULD NOT DO THAT AND DID NOT KNOW WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BE AVAILABLE. WENDY THEN SAID SHE WOULD CALL THE DEALER TO HAVE ME PUT ON A WAITLIST. SHE CALLED THE DEALER AS I WAITED ON THE PHONE LINE. SHE GOT BACK ON ABOUT 5 MINUTES LATER AND TOLD ME THAT THE DEALERSHIP COMPUTERS WERE DOWN AND I WOULD HAVE TO CALL THEM IN 2 HOURS, WHEN THE COMPUTERS SHOULD BE BACK UP. I FEEL THAT I WAS GETTING THE RUN AROUND WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND FMC. EACH TOLD ME TO TALK TO THE OTHER AND NEITHER WAS ABLE TO TELL ME WHEN I WOULD BE ABLE TO GET MY RECALL PERFORMED. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET THE RECALL SCHEDULED TO DATE.

CALL AUTOWAY FORD 07/29/16 AND WAS TOLD NO PARTS, CALLED AGAIN NUMEROUS TIMES AFTER THAT, I KNOW FOR SURE I CALLED ON 10/23/17 AND AGAIN 02/15/18. PARTS MANAGER CALLED ME ON 02/15/18 DUE TO MY CONCERN WITH THE INFLATOR NOT BEING REPLACED. HE STATED THAT THEY WERE GETTING SOME IN BUT THEY ARE FOR ONLY 2011, 2012, 2013 VEHICLES SINCE THEY ARE NEWER AND MORE OF THESE YEARS ON THE ROAD. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO HAVE A PASSENGER IN MY CAR FOR A LONG TIME DUE TO THE LIABILITY. I DON'T FEEL I SHOULD BE PUNISHED BECAUSE MY VEHICLE IS A 2006, WITH ONLY 54.000 MILES ON IT. I AM VERY UPSET AT THIS TIME. FORD IS NO WAY HELPING ME. I NOTICED WHEN I GOT TO THE SITE IT SAID TO CONTACT DEALER AND ASK FOR A FREE LOANER, WILL ALL DEALERSHIPS DO THIS?? IF I LEAVE CAR AT DEALERSHIP, I AM AFRAID SOMEONE WILL USE IT BECAUSE THE DAY I BOUGHT IT, I HAD TO PICK IT UP THE NEXT DAY AND THE MANAGER TOOK HIS WIFE TO DINNER IN IT. THE PASSENGERS SIDE AIR BAG IS ALSO DEFECTIVE. WITH NO REPLACEMENT PARTS AVAILABLE UNTIL SPRING/ SUMMER 2018. SO ANYONE RIDING IN PASSENGERS SIDE IS ST RISK OF HARMFUL DAMAGE OR DEATH. TAKATA RECALL FORD HAS NOW WARNED US BY MAIL THAT NO ONE SHOULD SIT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT UNTIL THE REPAIR HAS BEEN MADE AND THAT THEY WILL BEGIN MAKING REPAIRS IN NHTSA REMEDY ORDER IN THE SPRING OF 2018. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. EXPECTING US TO NOT USE THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT IN A MUSTANG (WHICH HAS ONLY ENOUGH SEATING SPACE IN THE BACK SEAT FOR A VERY SMALL CHILD WITHOUT A CAR SEAT) IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. DURING JULY 2016, I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY RECALLING ONE OF MY FORD MUSTANG AIR BAGS (RECALL 16V-384, 16S26). AFTER PATIENTLY WAITING FOR A YEAR AND A HALF FOR A LETTER STATING NEW AIR BAG INFLATORS WERE AVAILABLE, I CALLED FORD LAST WEEK TO GET A RECALL STATUS. THE FORD REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT MY RECALL WAS VALID BUT FORD COULD NOT TELL ME WHEN A REPLACEMENT AIR BAG INFLATOR WOULD BE AVAILABLE. THIS RESPONSE FROM FORD WAS OUTRAGEOUS SINCE THE TAKATA AIR BAG ISSUE HAS BEEN KNOWN FOR SOME YEARS NOW AND FORD HAS HAD MORE THAN ENOUGH TIME TO FIND AND PROCURE REPLACEMENTS. THIS IS AN EXTREME HAZARD TO MYSELF AND PASSENGERS. I HAVE A DIFFICULT TIME GETTING ANYONE TO DRIVE WITH ME NOW BECAUSE OF IT. HAVING RECENTLY BECOME PREGNANT I FEAR FOR MY LIFE AND MY UNBORN BABIES. ON BOTH OCCASIONS FORD SIDESTEPPED MY REQUEST AND REFUSED TO ANSWER MY QUESTIONS DIRECTLY. I BELIEVE FORD IS BEING DISHONEST, ONLY TRYING TO LIMIT THEIR LIABILITY, AT MY SAFETY AND EXPENSE. NOTE: FORD HAS RECALLED BOTH THE FRONTAL AIR BAGS BUT HAS ONLY REPLACED ONE.(SEE ATTACHED LETTERS). AFTER CALLING THE LOCAL FORD DEALER, REDLANDS FORD FOR MONTHS AND ALWAYS BEING TOLD THEY COULD NOT GET THE PARTS FOR THE RECALL AND TO TRY AGAIN NEXT MONTH FINALLY ON 7/24/17 WE WERE EXCITED TO HEAR THEY HAD THE DRIVERS SIDE PARTS IN AND WE SCHEDULED THE REPAIR FOR 7/25/17. WE DROPPED THE CAR OF IN THE MORNING ON 7/25 EXCITED TO FINALLY GET THIS FIXED. WHEN WE RETURNED AT 4:45 TO PICK UP THE CAR WE WERE DISAPOINTED TO NOTICE IT WAS STILL PARKED WHERE IT HAD BEEN THAT MORNING. ON INQUIRING WITH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WE WERE TOLD WE WOULD NEED TO KEEP THE CAR ANOTHER DAY AS THEY NEEDED TO ORDER THE PART. WHEN I INFORMED THEM WE WERE TOLD YESTERDAY THE PART WAS IN STOCK WHEN WE SCHEDULED THE SERVICE WE WERE TOLD DIFFERENT MODELS REQUIRE DIFFERENT PARTS. WHEN I TOLD HIM THEY HAD VERIFIED THE PART BY THE VIN NUMBER AND ASKED WHAT HAPPENED TO THE PART HE HAD IN STOCK HE REFUSED TO ANSWER ONLY SAYING THEY COULD REORDER THE PART FOR THE NEXT DAY. I ASKED WHY THEY HAD NOT CALLED ME WHEN THEY NOTICED THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PART HE IGNORED MY QUESTION SAYING THEY NEEDED TO REORDER THE PART. I ASKED HIM WHY IF THEY COULD ORDER THE PART AND GET IT IN THE NEXT DAY THEY HAD WAITED 15 MONTHS TO DO SO. AGAIN HE IGNORED MY QUESTION INSISTING I LEAVE THE CAR SO THEY COULD ORDER THE PART. THE DEALER TOLD ME YESTERDAY THEY MAY HAVE THE PART WITHIN THE NEXT QUARTER BUT ARE NOT SURE. IT WILL BE ALMOST A YEAR SINCE I WAS NOTIFIED OF THIS POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING ISSUE. APPARENTLY FORD DOES NOT CARE ABOUT ITS CUSTOMER'S. I WAS TOLD BY A REPRESENTATTVE AT FORD HEADQUARTERS I COULD SUE THE DEALER IF A PASSENGER WAS INJURED OR DIED AS A RESULT OF THE DEFECTIVE AIRBAG. THE BOTTOM LINE IS I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THE DEFECTIVE AIRBAG REPLACED IMMEDIATELY AND SOMETHING DONE SO FORD IS NOT ABLE TO CONTINUE TO RISK LIVES FOR SUCH AN EXTENDED PERIOD WHEN IT KNOWS OF A MAJOR SAFETY DEFECT.

DUE TO THE OUTSTANDING RECALL OF THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG ON MY MUSTANG, MY FORD DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT TAKE IN AS A TRADE OR WOULD HAVE TO OFFER ME LESS THEN THE CAR WOULD BE WORTH AS A TRADE IN BECAUSE THEY WOULD NOT RESELL THE CAR AND WOULD TAKE IT STRAIGHT TO AUCTION. SINCE FORD WAS ORIGINALLY RESPONSIBLE AS THEY ARE THE MANUFACTURER THAT INSTALLED THIS AIR BAG WHEN THE CAR WAS MANUFACTURED, AND THIS IS THE REASON THAT THE VEHICLE HAS THIS ISSUE, THEY SHOULD BE STEPPING UP AND COMPENSATING EITHER THE OWNER OR ANY DEALER THAT WOULD TAKE THIS CAR IN ON TRADE FOR ANY LOSS IN VALUE SO THAT THE PRESENT OWNER IS NOT TIED TO A VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE LOST VALUE DUE TO THIS RECALL ISSUE.

IN ADDITION DEPENDING ON WHERE IN COLORADO YOU ARE LOCATED THERE ARE AREAS OF HUMID + HOT WEATHER CONDITIONS THAT YOU CAN EXPERIENCE. I DO NOT HAVE THE OPTION TO HAVE MY AIR BAG DISABLED BY FORD TO PROTECT MY WELL BEING UNTIL A THOROUGH INVESTIGATION IS COMPLETED, NOR HAS FORD REACHED OUT TO CONSUMERS TO IDENTIFY WHAT STEPS THEY ARE TAKING TO ENSURE THEIR SAFETY. MY WELL BEING IS NOT BEING PROTECTED AS IT SHOULD AND I WOULD LIKE SOMETHING DONE ABOUT THE ISSUE. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THE AIR BAGS IN MY VEHICLE REMOVED AND REPLACED TO ENSURE THAT NOTHING AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL OCCURS. A 2006 FORD MUSTANG, WITH 5400 MILES ON THE ODOMETER, WAS INVOLVED IN A TWO VEHICLE TRAFFIC COLLISION. THE DRIVER OF THE MUSTANG REAR ENDED A FORD RANGER PICKUP TRUCK AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH. UPON IMPACT, THE AIRBAG OF THE MUSTANG FAILED TO DEPLOY AND THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT FAILED TO LOCK AND RESTRAIN THE DRIVER. SINCE BOTH RESTRAINT SYSTEMS FAILED, THE DRIVER OF THE MUSTANG STRUCK THE STEERING WHEEL WITH HER CHEST. EXTENSIVE FRONT END DAMAGE WAS SUSTAINED BY THE MUSTANG. AFTER THE COLLISION, THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS FLASHING, AND THE SEAT BELT WAS FOUND FULLY EXTENDED AND WOULD NOT RETRACT. *JB
