The contact owns a 2011 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that while at a stop light, the front driver’s side seat air bag deployed upon depression of the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated after the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 123,000.

TL* THE CONTACT'S WIFE OWNED A 2011 FORD MUSTANG. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HIS WIFE DRIVING AT 30 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE RAN A STOP SIGN AND HIT HER ON THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE PILLAR. THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT TOOK HIS WIFE TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE SHE SUFFERED A CONCUSSION AND TWO HERNIATED DISCS; IT WAS UNKNOWN IF THE OTHER DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED (#159951319-M). THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOW LOT AND WAS DEEMED DESTROYED. THE VEHICLE REMAINED UNDER INVESTIGATION. THE DEALER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN NOTIFIED BUT HAD NOT OFFERED ANY ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE AIR BAGS WERE REPLACED IN DECEMBER OF 2018 UNDER A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,105.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO NALLEY FORD SANDY SPRINGS (7555 ROSWELL RD, ATLANTA, GA 30350, (678) 809-5711) TO BE REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V001000 (AIR BAGS) HOWEVER, THE DEALER DECLINED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE, STATING THAT THE AIR BAGS WERE ALREADY DEPLOYED. ADDITIONALLY, THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN REPAIRED UNDER RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V319000 (AIR BAGS). THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,000.

CALL FOR REPAIR MARCH 2018. WAS TOLD PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE FOR RECALL CUSTOMERS YET. I WAS PUT ON A LIST FOR THE "RECALL PARTS" AND THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT WHEN AVAILABLE. CALLED AGAIN IN MAY MADE APPOINTMENT TO GET GET REPLACED. WHEN ARRIVED AT DEALER, I WAS TOLD THEY HAVE THE PART PUT NOT FOR ME BECAUSE THERE IS A DIFFERENT PROCESS NOW TO ORDER "RECALL PARTS". I WAS PUT ON ANOTHER LIST. CALLED AND CAME IN AGAIN AUG 10 2018. WAS TOLD THAT I WAS NOT A THE "NEW" LIST TO ORDER "RECALL PARTS". I WAS TOLD THE PROCESS HAS CHANGED 5 TIMES SO THE OTHER PROCESS DID NOT COUNT. I WAS INFORMED BY SERVICE MANAGER THAT HE WOULD NOT RISK HIS FAMILY IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. WAS TOLD ONLY USE THE BACK SEATS. THIS IS NOT PRACTICAL FOR DAILY USE AND PUTS UNDUE RISK TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. FORD HAS BREACHED IT'S DUTY TO PREFORM NEED REPAIRS IN A TIMELY MANNER. ALL REPAIR ATTEMPTS WERE MADE AT FORD OF ESCONDIDO, CA. AFTER I STATED I WOULD LOG A FORMAL COMPLAINT THE SERVICE MANAGER WAS ABLE TO FIND THE PART AND WILL COMPLETE REPAIR. THIS JUST SEEMS LIKE AN ATTEMPT TO NOT FIX THE ISSUE DUE TO FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS.

TWO DEALERSHIPS (INCLUDING A FORD DEALER) REFUSED TO PURCHASE DUE TO THE RECALL ON THE GROUNDS THAT THEY WILL BE UNABLE TO SELL IT WHILE THE RECALL IS IN EFFECT. "TAKATA RECALL", CAR WAS INVOLVED IN ACCIDENT ON NOVEMBER 3, 2016. CAR WAS BROUGHT IMMEDIATELY TO BODY SHOP FOR REPAIR. ONCE BODY SHOP RECEIVED CAR, THE DRIVER (STEERING WHEEL) AIR BAG WAS ORDERED AT FORD. GEICO, MY INSURANCE COMPANY NOTIFIED ME ON DECEMBER 3, 2016 THAT THEY WILL NO LONGER COVER MY RENTAL CAR EXPENSE SINCE ITS THE FAULT OF THE CAR MANUFACTURER WHY THE AIR BAG IS NOT AVAILABLE. SO IN ORDER TO AVOID LOOSING MY JOB I HAVE TO PAY $26/DAY FOR THE RENTAL CAR. I HAVE HAD TO PAY OVER $500 JUST FOR THE 20 DAYS I HAVE HAD THE RENTAL CAR. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY TOLD ME THEY WILL NOT COVER THE COST OF MY RENTAL CAR AND THEY ARE VERY SORRY I AM INCONVENIENCED. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE, THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED FOR OVER $65,000 IN 2011 AS IT IS A SHELBY COBRA GT500 CONVERTIBLE. TAKATA RECALL I HAD MY CAR AT THE DEALERSHIP RECENTLY TO DO NECESSARY REPAIRS TO THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG, THERE IS STILL AN ACTIVE RECALL FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG THAT THEY ARE STILL WAITING ON PARTS FOR. SO ANYWAY I REAR ENDED A VEHICLE WHILE STUCK IN SLOW MOVING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON I35 N IN AUSTIN TX. THIS HAPPENED AFTER THEY HAD WORKED ON MY DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG. I WAS NOT MOVING FASTER THAN 10MPH AND THE COLLISION IMPACT DID VERY MINIMAL DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE AND THE OTHER DRIVER'S VEHICLE. SINCE IT WAS BUMPER TO BUMPER RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY WE COULD NOT BE BOTHERED WITH WAITING FOR A POLICE REPORT. LIKE I SAID THE DAMAGE WAS MINIMAL BUT THE ACCIDENT DID CAUSE MY AIRBAG TO DEPLOY, WHICH DID CAUSE MINOR BURN INJURIES ON MY HANDS AND ARMS. THIS IS THE MOST MILD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT I HAVE EXPERIENCED IN MY LIFETIME YET IT IS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE ACTUALLY SEEN AN AIRBAG DEPLOY, WHICH IS WHY I BELIEVE THERE MAY HAVE BEEN FLAWS WITH THE REPAIR JOB OR THE AIRBAG HAD MALFUNCTIONED. I HAVE ATTEMPTED NUMEROUS TIMES TO GET THE DEALERSHIP TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AND I HAVE NOT HAD ANY LUCK. THEY KEEP SAYING THEY ALREADY FIXED IT AND I AM GOING TO HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS OUT OF POCKET BECAUSE MY INSURANCE ALSO WILL NOT COVER THE COST OF REPLACING MY AIRBAG. SO RIGHT NOW I AM CONTINUING TO DRIVE AROUND WITH A DEPLOYED AIRBAG AND MY INSPECTION IS CURRENTLY PAST DUE. THE IMPACT WAS PRETTY MILD BECAUSE NO ONE WAS MOVING FASTER THAN 5-10 MPH. THE DAMAGE ON BOTH VEHICLES WAS MINIMAL AND BARELY NOTICEABLE BUT THE AIRBAG ON MY DRIVER SIDE DID DEPLOY. I HAD BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AS PART OF A SAFETY RECALL BEFORE THIS ACCIDENT. I HIGHLY SUSPECT THAT THE AIRBAG MAY HAVE DEPLOYED UNNECESSARILY OR DUE TO SOME FLAW IN THE REPAIR JOB. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO BRING MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND UPON SEEING THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED, MOST OF THE SERVICE PEOPLE START TALKING ABOUT HOW MUCH IT IS GOING TO COST TO FIX IT. TAKATA RECALL ALMOST 12 MONTHS HAVE ELAPSED SINCE I BECAME AWARE OF THE RECALL FOR MY CAR THROUGH NATIONAL NEWS MEDIA.. I HAVE NEVER BEEN CONTACTED BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY EVEN THOUGH I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW. I HAVE ASKED MY PREFERRED FORD DEALER WHEN THEY WILL IMPLEMENT THIS RECALL. THE LAST OCCASION WAS RECENTLY WHEN I HAD MY CAR SERVICED ON 4/6/2016 AND I WAS ADVISED THAT THERE ARE NO REPLACEMENT PARTS AVAILABLE SO FAR BUT IT IS EXPECTED TO IMPLEMENT THE RECALL "LATER THIS YEAR". THIS SITUATION PUTS MY FAMILY AND MY PASSENGERS AT RISK OF INJURY OR WORSE AND FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAVE NOT RESOLVED THIS IN ALMOST 12 MONTHS. THIS IS IRRESPONSIBLE IN THE EXTREME AND SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO CONTINUE. OWNERS SHOULD NOW BE GIVEN A SAFE, REPLACEMENT VEHICLE UNTIL THE RECALL IS CARRIED OUT. MY LOCAL TV NEWS CHANNEL (CHANNEL 13 LAS VEGAS) LAST NIGHT AGAIN RECOMMENDED VEHICLE OWNERS TO CHECK OUT POSSIBLE RECALLS AND ACCORDINGLY I HAVE RESEARCHED THE INTERNET TO CHECK IF THERE IS ANY FURTHER PROGRESS ON MY FORD. THERE IS NOTHING NEW AND SO I FEEL FULLY JUSTIFIED IN LODGING THIS COMPLAINT WITH YOURSELVES. AS AT TODAY'S DATE. ( LAST NOVEMBER I CONTEMPLATED REPLACING MY CAR WITH A CHEVROLET. CAMARO. THE GM DEALER SAID THAT HE WAS HESITANT TO TAKE A FORD MUSTANG IN PART EXCHANGE BECAUSE OF THE RISK OF AIR BAG FAILURE AND THE FACT THAT CHECKS WERE NOT BEING DONE. HE POINTED OUT THAT AS A RESULT OTHER DEALERS WERE FACTORING IN THIS SITUATION AND IN CONSEQUENCE PART-EXCHANGE VALUES WERE NOW LOWERED.).

TAKATA RECALL: I WAS INFORMED OF THE RECALL IN JULY 2015 WHEN I RECEIVED A LETTER IN THE MAIL. I HAVE YET TO HEAR BACK FROM THEM THAT THE PARTS ARE IN TO GET THE AIR BAG FIXED AND IT'S ALMOST FEBRUARY 2016. I'VE READ THAT THERE HAVE BEEN 10 DEATHS RELATED TO THIS RECALL AND OTHER INJURIES ASSOCIATED WITH THE ISSUE. I DRIVE A LOT FOR WORK AND MY AREA JUST RECENTLY GOT NEARLY 3 FEET OF SNOW. I'M ALREADY FEELING UNSAFE DRIVING MY CAR IN THE SNOW BUT THIS ISSUE ON TOP OF IT IS REALLY MAKING ME UPSET. I LOVE MY CAR AND CONTINUE TO MAKE MONTHLY PAYMENTS ON IT THAT I'M BECOMING LESS AND LESS EXCITED TO MAKE KNOWING THAT EVERY TIME I HOP IN MY CAR TO GO SOMEWHERE, THERE'S A CHANCE OF ME DYING FROM SHARDS OF METAL BEING EJECTED OUT OF MY AIRBAG AT ME. I WAS INVOLVED IN A NO-FAULT ACCIDENT IN MY 2011 FORD MUSTANG IN APRIL OF THIS YEAR AFTER SOMEONE IN THE LANE TO MY LEFT WHO WAS HELD UP IN TRAFFIC IN HIS LANE PULLED OUT INTO MY LANE WITHOUT LOOKING, CAUSING MY VEHICLE TO SMASH INTO HIM. THE FORCE OF THE CRASH CAUSED OVER $9,000 IN DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE AND LEFT ME WITH 5 HERNIATED DISCS, HIP PROBLEMS, AND A NUMBER OF OTHER ISSUES. I HAVE HAD A SERIES OF SHOTS IN MY NECK, AS WELL AS MY SPINE, BOTH OF WHICH HAVE NOT ALLEVIATED MY PAIN. I AM NOW BEING TOLD THAT THERE IS NOTHING THAT THEY CAN DO FOR MY NECK AT THIS TIME, AND THAT I HAVE TO JUST LEARN TO LIVE WITH THE PAIN, AND ALSO THAT I NEED TO HAVE SURGERY ON MY LOWER BACK. MY AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. TWO MONTHS LATER, I GOT A RECALL LETTER IN FROM FORD, BUT I TOOK MY CAR UP TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY SAID THAT THERE IS NOTHING THAT THEY CAN DO. THEY WEREN'T EVEN INTERESTED IN TRADING MY CAR IN. I SUPPOSE THAT I SHOULD BE GRATEFUL THAT IT DID NOT GO OFF, AS APPARENTLY PEOPLE ARE DYING WHEN THEY DO, BUT SOMEHOW IT DOES NOT MAKE ME FEEL BETTER, AS THIS HAS TOTALLY MESSED UP MY LIFE THESE LAST 6 MONTHS THAT HAVE BEEN FILLED WITH TIME-CONSUMING VISITS TO DOCTORS, CHIROPRACTORS, ETC... I'M ONLY 36 YEARS OLD, AND NOW I AM SUPPOSE TO LIVE WITH THIS?? IT'S REALLY TERRIBLE WHAT HAS HAPPENED. I DON'T REALLY KNOW WHO TO TALK TO ABOUT A SUIT FOR THE AIRBAG SITUATION, AS I SPOKE WITH MY INJURY ATTORNEY WHO IS SUING THE INSURANCE COMPANY FOR MY INJURIES, AND HE IS SOMEHOW UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT THE AIRBAG LAWSUITS ARE ONLY REGARDING THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYING SPONTANEOUSLY, AND NOT THAT THEY ARE JUST NOT GOING OFF AT ALL WHEN YOU NEED THEM DURING AN ACCIDENT. AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND WOULD NOT GO OFF. TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY TOLD ME THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG MODULE WAS FAULTY. WE'RE GOING TO CHARGE ME $600 TO REPLACE SOMETHING THAT I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER AND IS CONSIDER A SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED FROM WHAT THE DEALER TOLD ME. I HAVE HAD NO ACCIDENTS IN THIS CAR TO CAUSE THAT TO BE FAULTY AND I FEEL AS THOUGH THIS SHOULD BE SOMETHING THE DEALERSHIP SHOULD HAVE TO REPLACE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD MUSTANG. WHILE SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE A LEFT TURN AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE NECK, BACK, KNEE, AND HEAD THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. ADDITIONALLY, THREE PASSENGERS THAT WERE IN THE OTHER VEHICLE ALSO SUSTAINED UNKNOWN INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.

FRONT DRIVERS AIRBAG LIGHT ON. CALLED FORD TO GET IT FIXED AND WAS TOLD BY BOTH DEALERSHIP AND THE WARRANTY DEPARTMENT THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $150 TO HAVE IT TESTED. DEPENDING ON WHAT THE TEST SHOWED I WOULD BE GIVEN THE COST TO REPAIR. HAVE EXTENDED WARRANTY WITH FORD TOO. THEY ALL STATED THAT IT PROBABLY WOULD NOT BE COVERED WHICH CAN RUN ME UP TO AN ADDITIONAL $300. I HAVE PAID TO HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANT AS WELL AS PAY THEM TO SERVICE MY CAR. THE PASSENGER SEAT ELECTRONICS HAS ALREADY FAILED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE CLIP ON THE EXHAUST BROKE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. NOW THE DRIVERS SIDE ELECTRONICS IS BREAKING. THE SEAT WILL NOT MOVE. WHEN I AM BRAKING AT ABOUT 3-5 MPH THE CAR WILL LUNGE FORWARD (FEELS LIKE I WAS REAR ENDED BUT NO CARS BEHIND ME) OCCASIONALLY I WILL GO TO ACCELERATE AND CAN'T GET ABOVE 15 MPH I HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON THEN IT'S FINE. THE AIR BAG LIGHT OFF FOR THE PASSENGER SEAT WILL COME ON EVEN WITH A 250 LB PERSON SITTING THERE, I HAVE HAD PEOPLE TRY TO SHIFT THEIR WEIGHT BUT IT STILL COMES ON AFTER 5 MINUTES OF DRIVING IT GOES AWAY. THE PEDDLE PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES FEEL LOW AND I HAVE TAPPED MY BRAKES AND THE ABS ACTIVATED CAUSING THE BRAKES PULSATE AT 25 MPH. THE DRIVER SIDE ENGINE WILL INTERMEDIATELY SEQUEL AND THE CAR WILL IDLE EXTREMELY ROUGH, IT DOES IT MOSTLY AT IDLE BUT I HAVE HAD IT HAPPEN AT A STOP LIGHT AFTER 1 HOUR OF DRIVING. 2011 FORD MUSTANG V-6 AFTER OWNING FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS, WE NOTICED THAT ON OCCASION THE "PASS AIR BAG' LIGHT IN THE OVERHEAD WOULD FLICKER ON INDICATION THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG SYSTEM IS DISABLED. AFTER A FEW WEEKS, THE LIGHT BECAME MORE CONSISTENT TO THE POINT THAT IT WOULD REMAIN ON FOR THE MAJORITY OF THE DURATION OF ANY TRIP. MADE A TRIP TO THE SHOP AND THE SYSTEM WAS "RE-ZEROED". NO ISSUES FOR A FEW WEEKS AND THEN THE ISSUE STARTED AGAIN. BACK TO THE SHOP AND TOLD THAT THIS IS NORMAL OPERATION OF THE SYSTEM DUE TO MY WIFE WEIGHING ~105 - 110LBS. WENT HOME AND READ THE DRIVERS MANUAL TO SEE IF THIS FEATURE OF THE SYSTEM WAS DESCRIBED. FOUND A PROCEDURE IN THE MANUAL FOR TRAINING THE SYSTEM TO IDENTIFY THE WEIGHT OF A PASSENGER TO THE SYSTEM. FOLLOWED THE PROCEDURE. AGAIN THE SYSTEM OPERATED AS EXPECTED FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND THEN STARTED AGAIN. BACK TO THE SHOP AND AGAIN TOLD THAT IT WAS NORMAL OPERATION BUT FORD WAS AGAIN E-MAILED. RESPONSE WAS TO PERFORM THE PROCEDURE IN THE DRIVERS MANUAL. IF THIS FAILED TO WORK ADDITIONAL TESTING TO BE PERFORMED. REPEATED THE RESET PROCEDURE 2 MORE TIMES AND RETURNED TO THE SHOP WITH THE SAME RESULTS. WHILE SITTING IN THE DRIVE WAY OF THE DEALERSHIP THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS WITNESSED BY THE SERVICE MANAGER FLASHING ON AND OFF WITH THE CAR IN IDLE AND MY WIFE PROPERLY RESTRAINED. ADDITIONAL TESTING HAS BEEN PERFORMED AND ALL TESTS HAVE BEEN PASSED. THE DEALERSHIP IS PLANNING TO REPLACE THE SEAT PAD/BLADDER WHEN THE PARTS ARE RELEASED BY FORD. THIS WILL BE IN EARLY DECEMBER AT BEST. I AM CURRENTLY BEING TOLD BY FORD TO PULL OVER AND HAVE MY WIFE RIDE IN THE BACK SEAT OF OUR BRAND NEW CAR WHEN THE LIGHT ILLUMINATES. *TR
