2011 FORD MUSTANG. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO UNATTENDED VEHICLE ROLL-AWAY. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED HE PARKED THE VEHICLE IN THE GARAGE. A FEW MINUTES LATER, HE HEARD A NOISE AND WHEN HE OPENED THE GARAGE, HE DISCOVERED HIS VEHICLE WAS TIGHT AGAINST THE GARAGE DOOR. WHEN HE OPENED THE DOOR TO THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED THE VEHICLE WAS IN DRIVE AND NOT IN PARK, ALTHOUGH THE KEY WAS NOT IN THE IGNITION. UPON FURTHER EVALUATION, THE CONSUMER DISCOVERED THE KEY COULD BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION IN ANY SHIFTER POSITION. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FLOOR SHIFTER. *JB

COMPUTER TEST ALL NEGATIVE,BUT PROBABLY A BAD ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY NEEDED @ $ 500. + . TOOK CAR AND GOT ON LINE, NOT GOING TO SPEND $ UNTIL SURE OF EXACT ISSUE. FOUND NHTSA CSP 13N03 , ADDRESSING MY IDENTICAL ISSUE FOR 2011 FUSIONS & ESCAPES WITH V6 ENGINES, BUT HAVEN'T FOUND FOR 2011 MUSTANG. THIS EXTENDS WARRANTY TO 150,000, AND 10 YEARS. I HAVE 109,879 MILES NOW, AND ISSUE HAPPENED TWICE TODAY ON INTERSTATE @ 75 MPH. POPPED TO NUETRAL, KILLED KEY, RESTARTED ON ROLL BOTH TIMES.AFTER PARKING CAR FOR SHORT WHILE AND RESTARTING, CHECK ENG INE LITE ON. WENT BACK TO SHOP & RE-TESTED, THIS TIME, THROTTLE BODY AND ASSOCIATED ISSUES DIGNOSED. I ARRIVED HOME FROM WORK AND NOTICED SOME COOLANT LEAKING OUT OF MY CAR. I POPPED THE HOOD AND SAW COOLANT SEEPING FROM THE WEEP HOLE. WHEN I CRANKED THE CAR BACK UP, COOLANT STARTED POURING OUT UNDERNEATH THE CAR, BAD WATER PUMP. I HAD IT TOWED TO DEALERSHIP TODAY AND WAS TOLD THERE IS A TECHNICAL BULLETIN ON THE HOSE LEADING TO WATER PUMP BECAUSE IT ALLOWS AIR IN AND CAUSES THE WATER PUMP TO FAIL. THE ENTIRE AREA HAS TO BE REPLACED WITH A NEW HOSE THAT INCLUDES A CHECK VALVE, SO IT DOESN'T CONTINUE TO HAPPEN. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS MANUFACTURING DEFECT. I WAS TOLD ANY CAR THAT CAME IN WITHOUT A CHECK VALVE HAS TO BE REPLACED WITH THE NEW HOSE INCLUDING A CHECK VALVE AND THAT I HAVE TO INCUR THE ENTIRE EXPENSE $486 PLUS TAX BECAUSE HOSES ARE NOT COVERED BY POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. I CALLED FORD AND WAS TOLD DUE TO NO RECALL, I WOULD NOT BE REIMBURSED FOR THIS SERVICE. EVEN THOUGH, HE ALSO ADMITTED THAT THERE IS A TECHNICAL BULLETIN ISSUED BY FORD REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE GOOGLED THIS AND THE SAME PROBLEM IS ALL OVER THE MUSTANG FORUMS. FORD IS REFUSING TO STAND BY THEIR PRODUCT. LUCKILY, I WAS AT HOME WHEN THIS OCCURRED AND NOT OUT TRAVELING THE HIGHWAY. THIS WOULD CAUSE THE CAR TO OVERHEAT AND AN ACCIDENT CAN OCCUR. FORD IS REFUSING TO COVER ANY COST OF THE REPAIR. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND CONCERNS NUMEROUS CONSUMERS, NOT JUST ME.

I'VE NEVER HAD SIMILAR ISSUE BEFORE THIS. I WAS ACCELERATING SLOWLY AT A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 20-30 MPH WHEN THE CAR LURCHED, THE "TRACTION CONTROL" LIGHT AND WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON, AND I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE THE CAR AT ALL. I WAS FORCED TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER ABOUT 30 SECONDS I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE CAR AND THE ENGINE TURNED A FEW EXTRA TIMES BUT DID START. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME (WITHIN 0.5 MILE) AT VERY SLOW SPEEDS. OVER THE NEXT DAY I TESTED THE CAR ON BACK ROADS: IT FREQUENTLY REQUIRED THE ENGINE TO TURN EXTRA IN ORDER TO START, AND IT SEEMED THAT WHENEVER I TRIED TO ACCELERATE TOO RAPIDLY THE PROBLEM RETURNED AND I WAS FORCED TO COAST/BRAKE TO A STOP AND RESTART THE ENGINE. IF I ACCELERATED VERY SLOWLY I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR BUT AT NO POINT COULD I PASS 20-30 MPH. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED AN ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY FAILURE BASED ON EEC TEST AND CODE P2112. THEY NOTED A STUCK ETB ACTUATOR AND ETB ACTUATOR BINDING CAUSING SYSTEM TO GO INTO FAILSAFE MODE. THE ETB ASSEMBLY AND FULL THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED AND THE CAR DRIVES WELL NOW. THIS IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IF I HAD BEEN ON A MAJOR FREEWAY OR A HILL (AS ARE FREQUENT IN MY AREA) I COULD HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN A SERIOUS INJURY. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOT AWARE OF OR DID NOT OFFER ANY EXTENDED WARRANTIES FOR DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODIES OR SENSORS AND IF THIS EXISTS I AM INTERESTED TO PURSUE REIMBURSEMENT OF THE COST OF MY REPAIRS AND LABOR. *TR

THIS BEGAN AS OF LAST THURSDAY. I HAVE A 2011 FORD MUSTANG THAT I BOUGHT JUST LAST AUGUST. AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, A WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND MY CAR SEEMED TO HAVE STALLED ON ME. I THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS BECAUSE IT WAS POURING DOWN RAINING SO I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER INTO A PARKING LOT SINCE I WAS EXITING THE FREEWAY. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AFTER IT SEEMED TO VIBRATE A BIT, WAITED A FEW MOMENTS, TURNED IT BACK ON AND IT SEEMED FINE. I WAS ABLE TO GET HOME AND PARK IT ONLY A FEW MILES FROM WHERE IT HAPPENED. I HAD A DOC APPOINTMENT LATER THAT DAY AND WAS ABLE TO GET THERE. IT WAS WHEN I WAS ON MY WAY HOME THAT IT HAPPENED AGAIN, ON THE FREEWAY! IT OCCURRED AGAIN THE NEXT DAY (FRIDAY) AS I WAS LEAVING FROM WORK. I WAS ON THE FREEWAY AGAIN IN BUSY TRAFFIC AND IT HAPPENED TWICE EXCEPT THE SECOND TIME, MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. MY DAD TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC, IT WAS HOOKED UP TO THE COMPUTER AND NO CODE CAME BACK. COOLANT WAS PUT IN IT AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS CLEANED. EVERYTHING WAS FINE AFTERWARDS. TODAY, I'M DRIVING TO WORK AND IT GOES INTO LIMP MODE TWICE ON THE FREEWAY WHILE DRIVERS ARE SWERVING AROUND ME! THIS IS NOT SAFE AT ALL! I HAVE EXTENDED WARRANTY ON MY CAR SO THIS IS GOING TO HAVE TO BE FIXED ASAP. TO ANYONE ELSE HAVING THIS PROBLEM, PLEASE BE CAREFUL. ONCE IT GOES INTO LIMP MODE, YOUR SPEED WILL DRASTICALLY DECREASE AND YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ACCELERATE. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE IS EXCLUDING MUSTANGS FROM THE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 13N03 - WHICH CLEARLY STATES THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH ETBS DURING THIS TIME. LOOKING OVER THE INTERNET, IT IS CLEAR THAT SOME MUSTANGS WHERE BUILT WITH THE SAME TYPE OF ETB AS THE MODELS COVERED UNDER THE PROGRAM (FUSION, ESCAPE, MERCURY MARINER AND MERCURY MILAN). THE PROGRAM EXTENDS THE WARRANTY ON THE THROTTLE BODY TO A TOTAL OF 10 YEARS OR 150,000 MILES FROM THE WARRANTY START DATE, WHICH EVER OCCURS FIRST. THIS CAR IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AS IT BASICALLY STALLS AND CANNOT BE RESTARTED WITHOUT TURNING THE IGNITION COMPLETELY OFF - WHICH IN TURN TURNS OFF POWER ASSET TO STEERING AND BRAKES. CAR MAY TAKE UP TO 3 OR 4 TRIES TO START NORMALLY. THIS STALLING CONDITION CAN OCCUR UP TO 5 TIMES IN AN 8 MILE TRIP. *TR

WHEN SHIFTING AT A HIGHER RPM FROM THIRD TO FOURTH (SUCH AS WHEN ACCELERATING ON AN ONRAMP TO MERGE ONTO A HIGHWAY WHEN THE RPM MAY BE EXCEEDING 3500-4000 RPMS), THERE IS A TREMENDOUS GRIND IN THE SHIFT, AND TO AVOID I MUST SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL FROM THIRD WAIT A SECOND AND THEN ENGAGE INTO FOURTH. 4. WHEN DOWNSHIFTING I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE FRONT END SEEMS TO BE ALMOST LOCKING UP ESPECIALLY WHEN THE WHEEL IS TURNED (THIS IS WITHIN THE LAST WEEK), AND ALL OF THESE ISSUES HAVE EXACERBATED THEMSELVES SINCE THE COLD WEATHER HAS ARRIVED. *TR

A FORD SERVICE TICKET HAS BEEN OPENED TO TRACK THE ISSUE AND DEALER REPAIRS MADE. THE DEALERS SERVICE MANAGER HAS DRIVEN THE VEHICLE, WITH ME PRESENT, AND HAS NOTICED THE SAME GRIND AND ROUGH SHIFT PATTERN AS DESCRIBED. THE SERVICE CENTER IMPLEMENTED THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN TSB 11-3-18, 'THE INCREASED SHIFT EFFORT MAY BE THE RESULT OF THE INCREASED VISCOSITY OF THE TRANSMISSION FLUID IN COLD WEATHER'?. THE WEATHER IN AZ DOES NO''T GET THAT COLD AND IT CONTINUED EVEN DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS. I HAD ALSO REQUESTED THAT THE 1ST TO 4TH SKIP SHIFT BE DISABLED, WITH NO CHANGE IN SHIFTING. HAD TO COAST THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE STOPPING POINT WITH NO ENGINE POWER AND TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALER FOR REPAIR. THIS IS THE 2ND INCIDENT WITH THE TRANSMISSION ON THIS VEHICLE IN LESS THAN 1 YEAR, WITH THE PRIOR INCIDENT BEING A FAULTY SLAVE CLUTCH CYLINDER. EXITING OFF THE HIGHWAY ONTO AN EXIT RAMP, HAVE EXPERIENCED A SIMILAR PROBLEM. FROM 6TH GEAR, THE TRANSMISSION LOCKED ME OUT OF 4TH GEAR AND FORCED ME INTO 2ND GEAR. THIS CAUSED A MASSIVE AND SUDDEN DECREASE IN SPEED CAUSING THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME TO SLAM ON THEIR BRAKES IN ORDER TO AVOID REAR-ENDING ME. PERSISTENT GRINDING NOISE AND FEEL WHILE THE CAR IS BEING SHIFTED, AS IF THE GEARS ARE NOT MESHING WHEN SHIFTED. NOTICEABLE IN THE FEEL OF THE STICK AND AUDIBLE AT TIMES AS WELL. THIS IS NOTICEABLE IN MOST GEARS IN PARTICULAR 2ND THRU 5TH. THE TRANSMISSION CONSTANTLY MAKES A HARD CLUNKING NOISE WHEN IT IS PUT INTO FIRST GEAR FROM NEUTRAL. THIS CLUNK CAN BE HEARD AND FELT IN THE CAR CLEARLY. A REASONABLE AND ACCEPTABLE AMOUNT OF DISTANCE WAS PRESENT PRIOR TO PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC. DEALER WAS ADVISED AND PERFORMED A CHANGE OF FLUID TO A DUEL CLUTCH FLUID WHICH AND I INSTALLED AN AFTERMARKET SHIFTER (MGW SHIFTER) WHICH MADE A SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT. I STILL BELIEVE A DESIGN ISSUE EXISTS. PLACEMENT INTO GEAR IS OFTEN DIFFICULT AND UP SHIFTING IS NOT SMOOTH AS IT SHOULD BE. THIS TRANSMISSION HAS DONE THIS ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. I AM NOT SURE HOW MANY COMPLAINTS THERE HAVE BEEN BUT THIS TRANSMISSION DEFECT IN THE 2011 MUSTANG IS COMMON KNOWLEDGE AMONG MUSTANG WEB SITES AND FORUMS. AS THE CAR WAS SLOWING DOWN, I TRIED OTHER GEAR SLOTS: 5TH, THEN 6TH, 4TH AGAIN, TO 3RD. NOTHING. FINALLY, I REMOVED MY LEFT FOOT FROM THE PEDAL ALTOGETHER AND NOTICED THE PEDAL WAS STUCK TO THE FLOOR. AFTER PUMPING IT TO NO AVAIL, I WEDGED MY FOOT UNDER THE PEDAL TO KICK IT BACK UP. MY DRIVETRAIN WAS ONCE AGAIN RESPONSIVE. I WAS ALREADY AWARE OF A RUMOR THAT LATER MODEL MUSTANGS HAD HIGH RPM GEAR-SHIFTING ISSUES, BUT THIS WAS THE FIRST PERSONAL OCCURRENCE FOR ME. BASED ON THIS SUSPICION, I ATTEMPTED TO RECREATE IT ON THE WAY BACK HOME AND I WAS ONCE AGAIN ABLE TO FREEZE MY CLUTCH TO THE FLOOR. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY IN FOR REPAIR, AND I BELIEVE THEY ARE REPLACING THE CLUTCH AND PRESSURE PLATE FOR THEIR NEXT FIX ATTEMPT. *TT

I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER, AND THEY SAID IT WAS NORMAL AND WAS A 'BREAK IN' ISSUE. DESPITE DISAGREEING I DROVE IT UNTIL THERE WAS AROUND 10,000 MILES ON IT. AT THIS POINT IT WAS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO SHIFT INTO SECOND WHEN TURNING LEFT WITHOUT PHYSICALLY FORCING IT TO THE POINT I WAS SKIPPING TO THIRD. ALSO THIRD GEAR HAD DEVELOPED THE SAME ISSUES INTERMITTENTLY. I TOOK IT BACK IN, AND THEY BLED THE CLUTCH. AFTER RECEIVING THE CAR I TOOK IT BACK THE NEXT WEEK, AS OBVIOUSLY IT DID NOT FIX ANYTHING. FORD DECIDED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. THE TECHNICIAN REPORTED ALL SYNCROS AND BLOCKING RINGS WERE EXTREMELY WORN AND SECOND AND THIRD GEARS SHOWED SIGNS OF WEAR. HE ALSO REPORTED THE INPUT SHAFT BEARING HAD SHOWED SIGNS THAT IT HAD BEEN VERY HOT. AFTER RECEIVING MY CAR BACK I NOTICED A DIFFERENCE, NOW THE SHIFTER LINKAGE HAD A NOTICEABLE POPPING/BINDING FEELING IN THE LINKAGE WHEN MOVING THE SHIFTER BACK AND FORTH IN THE NUETRAL POSITION. I WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS ABNORMAL, BUT THAT OTHER CARS ON THE LOT HAD THE SAME ISSUE. WHICH LATER I FOUND OUT TO BE A LIE. AFTER ABOUT 100 MILES IT HAS SHOWN THE SAME EXACT SYMPTOMS AS BEFORE INCLUDING THE NEW LINKAGE ISSUE. I DROVE THE CAR WITH THE TECHNICIAN WITH ME FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. I WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE WHEN TURNING LEFT. THE TECHNICIAN WAS ALSO ABLE TO NOTICE THIS ISSUE WHEN HE WAS DRIVING. EVEN THOUGH IT HAPPENS ONLY WHEN TURNING LEFT AND ONLY WHEN CHANGING TO SECOND GEAR, HE AGAIN LIED TO ME AND TOLD ME THAT IT WAS NORMAL, AND THAT IN ALL CARS YOU HAVE TO WAIT A LITTLE BIT FOR THE SYNCRO'S TO CATCH UP AND IT IS NORMAL TO HAVE TO WAIT A FEW SECONDS WHILE HOLDING IT UP TO THE SYNCROS FOR IT TO SLIDE IN. HERE'S WHAT I'M EXPERIENCING. 1. CLUTCH PEDAL STICKS TO FLOOR AT HIGHER RPM SHIFTS (5000 PLUS) AND WILL NOT RELEASE UNTIL RPM HAS LOWERED TO LESS THAN 3500 RPM. DOESN?T MATTER WHAT GEAR I?M SHIFTING INTO. 2. I WAS LOCKED INTO 2ND GEAR WHEN CLUTCH PEDAL WAS STUCK TO FLOOR. THE SHIFTER WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO PULL OUT OF 2ND TO GO TO 3RD UNTIL I SLOWED DOWN (LESS THAN 3500 RPM) AND CLUTCH RELEASED. THEN ONCE I PUSHED THE CLUTCH BACK IN AFTER IT RELEASED I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT FROM 2ND TO 3RD. 3. AT A HIGHER RPM SHIFT (5000 PLUS) I WAS NOT ABLE TO SHIFT FROM 2ND TO 3RD. I WAS LOCKED OUT OF 3RD GEAR. I WAS GETTING ONTO THE INTERSTATE AND I HAD TO SLOW DOWN AND THEN AT A LOWER RPM (ABOUT 3500-4000) THEN I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT INTO 3RD. 4. TRANSMISSION WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO GO INTO REVERSE AND 1ST GEAR SOMETIMES WHEN CLUTCH IS PUSHED DOWN TO FLOOR WHILE THE CAR IS AT A STOP. IF I LET THE CLUTCH OUT AND DOUBLE PUMP IT THEN IT WILL LET ME BUT THE TRANSMISSION FEELS AND SOUNDS CLUNKY. 5. NOT ALLOWED TO SHIFT FROM 1ST TO 2ND SOMETIMES AND WHEN IT DOES FINALLY GO INTO GEAR, IT FEELS LIKE THE SHIFTER DOESN?T FULLY ENGAGE INTO 2ND. 6. VEHICLE IS SERVICED AND TO ADDRESS CONTINUED SHIFTING ISSUES THEY COMPLETE TSB BY REPLACING FLUID. TO ADDRESS THE EXCESSIVE VIBRATION THEY HAND ME A SHEET CALLED OASIS SPECIAL SERVICE MESSAGE THAT STATES"SOME 2011 MUSTANGS EQUIPPED WITH 3.7L V-6 ENGINE AND MT82 MANUAL TRANSMISSION MAY EXHIBIT A VIBRATION IN THE SHIFTER....BETWEEN 3500 AND 2000 RPM. THIS IS NORMAL OPERATIONAL CHARACTERISTICS AND NO REPIARS ARE REQUIRED OR RECOMMENDED." THE TRANSMISSION EXHIBITS AN UNUSUALLY GREAT DEAL OF RESISTANCE TO GOING INTO THE NEXT GEAR IN SEQUENCE, 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5 AND 5-6. THIS RESISTANCE IS SIGNIFICANT AT SHIFTS IN EVEN THE LOWEST RPM RANGE AND THE RESISTANCE INCREASES DRASTICALLY AND PROPORTIONATELY WITH THE INCREASE IN RPM OF THE ENGINE AT THE TIME A GEAR SHIFT IS ATTEMPTED. THE MOST DANGEROUS INCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE ON A TWO LANE HIGHWAY. USUALLY, I WILL DOWNSHIFT TO FOURTH GEAR AND ACCELERATE WHILE MANEUVERING AROUND THE CAR IN FRONT. AT THE POINT WHERE I AM COMMITTED TO MY ACTION, (BEING FULLY IN THE LANE OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND PARALLEL TO THE OTHER CAR, I WILL EXPERIENCE AN UNSUCCESSFUL SHIFT AND BE FACED WITH HAVING TO EITHER ABORT MY PASSING ATTEMPT OR CONTINUE TO STRUGGLE TO ENGAGE THE GEAR SHIFT WHILE BEING DANGEROUSLY DISTRACTED BY THIS PROBLEM AT WHAT IS PERHAPS ONE OF THE MOST INOPPORTUNE TIMES FOR A DRIVER TO BE DISTRACTED. THE ENTIRE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED. THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS REPLACED PER GUIDANCE TO THE DEALERSHIP FROM A FORD TECH. AFTER THE REPAIRS THE SHIFTING WAS SLIGHTLY SMOOTHER BUT THE NOTCHINESS AND INTERMITTENT GRINDING REMAINS. I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WILL GET WORSE OR WILL FAIL. *TR

THE FIRST 2 TIMES INTO THE DEALER THEY DIDN'T EVEN PULL THE CAR INTO THE GARAGE AND TOLD ME THAT FORD IS AWARE OF AN ISSUE SINCE DEC. 2010 AND NO FIX AT THIS TIME. THE 3RD TIME IN LATE MARCH '11 I FINALLY CONVINCED THEM TO LET A TECH COME OUT FOR A RIDE, HE SAID "IT'S ALL NORMAL", SORRY A VIBRATING SHIFTER IN ANY GEAR IS NOT NORMAL, GRINDING IS NOT NORMAL. WHENEVER THE WEATHER WAS BELOW FREEZING, AND THE CAR WAS FIRST DRIVEN AFTER COLD START, IT WOULD EXHIBIT THIS BEHAVIOR. THE DEALER TOLD ME THERE WAS NO TSB OR SSM FOR THE TRANSMISSION ISSUE AND TO CHECK BACK PERIODICALLY. THOUGH I REQUESTED THE DEALER TO DOCUMENT THE COMPLAINT AT THAT TIME, THEY DID NOT. WHAT SCARES ME ABOUT THIS ISSUE IS THE LAG TIME REQUIRED TO SHIFT INTO 2ND GEAR WHEN PULLING AWAY FROM A RED LIGHT WITH TRAFFIC BEHIND ME. TWICE I WAS NEARLY REAR-ENDED AS A RESULT OF THIS (I CAN ACCELERATE WELL IN 1ST, THEN SUDDENLY, I'M COASTING TO A STOP WHILE FIGHTING TO GET THE CAR INTO 2ND GEAR - BY THE WAY, THE V6 DOES NOT HAVE A SKIP SHIFT FEATURE). FORD WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM (SPECIAL SERVICE MESSAGE 21661) AND SAID THERE WAS NO RECOMMENDED SOLUTION. THIS WAS NOT A SATISFACTORY SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM, SO I TOOK THE CAR BACK ON MARCH 24TH, 2011AND REQUESTED THAT THEY CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID TO MOTORCRAFT FULL SYNTHETIC TRANSMISSION FLUID, JUST TO SEE IF IT HELPED. IT MADE THE PROBLEM LESS PRONOUNCED, BUT DID NOT SOLVE IT. ON APRIL 4TH, 2011 THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT FORD FINALLY CAME UP WITH A RECOMMENDED SOLUTION FOR MY PROBLEM AND THAT I SHOULD BRING THE CAR IN TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGED TO MOTORCRAFT DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSION FLUID. I PUT THE CAR BACK IN FIRST GEAR AND WAS ABLE TO SHIFT NORMALLY THROUGH 6TH GEAR. SINCE REBUILD DEALER CLAIMS TO BE UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. SO I END UP NOT HAVING ENOUGH ACCELERATION TO BEAT ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I HAVE ALMOST HAD THREE CRASHES THIS WAY. OTHER TIMES SHIFTING FROM 1-2 OR 2-3 CAUSES AN INCOMPLETE SHIFT BECAUSE OF SOME RESISTANCE IN THE GEAR BOX. THIS LEADS TO A JARRING, LOUD GRINDING NOISE EMANATING FROM THE GEAR BOX. THIS ALSO LEADS TO LOSS OF ACCELERATION AND I HAVE BEEN ALMOST REAR ENDED A FEW TIMES. THESE PROBLEMS OCCUR ON AND OFF MOSTLY WHEN STARTING OFF FROM A STOP (FROM NEUTRAL) AND AT HIGH RPM GEAR CHANGES. RESOLUTION: I'VE TAKEN THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AS PER THE FORD TSB. THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM FOR A MILE AND THE PROBLEM STARTED OCCURRING AGAIN. I TOOK THE CAR IN AGAIN ON THE INSISTENCE OF THE SERVICE MANAGER AND HE DROVE IT AROUND AND ACKNOWLEDGED THE ISSUE AS WELL. HE SAID HE WOULD GET IN TOUCH WITH FORD TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANY FIX. HE GOT BACK TO ME A FEW WEEKS LATER AND SAID THAT FORD DOESN'T HAVE ANY RESOLUTION AND DOESN'T SEEM TO EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE. FINAL THOUGHTS: I THINK THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED THAT A NEW CAR HAS THESE ISSUES. IT IS A GREAT CAR OTHERWISE. FORD NEEDS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE AND FIX IT SOON. I'VE ALSO FOUND THAT SOME 2012 MUSTANGS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE GEAR BOX. THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION IN MY 2011 FORD MUSTANG GT HAS BEEN WHINING AND GRINDING GEARS SINCE THE CLUTCH WAS REPLACED DUE TO A DESIGN FLAW (ONLY TO GET THE EXACT SAME CLUTCH ASSEMBLY), AND WILL BE GOING BACK TO THE DEALER MARCH 29TH TO HOPEFULLY GET THE TRANS REPLACED (W/ THE EXACT SAME TRANS THAT HAS ALL THESE KNOWN ISSUES). I IMAGINE THIS WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN BETWEEN NOW AND WHEN THE CAR IS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, THIS IS MY ONLY AND FIRST BRAND NEW CAR, I SHOULDN'T BE HAVING THESE DANGEROUS PROBLEMS, LET ALONG TAKING MY BRAND NEW CAR TO A DEALERSHIP TO KEEP GETTING REPAIRED OVER AND OVER AGAIN BECAUSE THE FAILING PARTS ARE JUST BEING REPLACED W/ THE SAME PARTS ONLY TO FAIL OVER AND OVER AGAIN. FORD NEEDS TO STEP UP AND REPLACE THIS TRANS W/ AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT/DEPENDABLE MANUAL TRANSMISSION. I HAVE OWNED 7 MUSTANGS, AND THIS BRAND NEW ONE HAS HAD MORE TRANSMISSION/CLUTCH PROBLEMS THEN ANY CAR I HAVE EVER HAD.. WORSE OFF ITS THE MOST $$ I HAVE EVER SPENT ON A CAR AS WELL.. $30K. THE 2011 MUSTANG GT HAS SHIFTING ISSUES. IT IS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. WHEN SHIFTING INTO 2ND AND 3RD GEARS, IT GRINDS WHEN COLD. AFTER IT WARMS UP, THERE ARE DELAYS IN POWER IN 2,3,4 AND 5 GEARS. *TR

VEHICLES HAS BEEN TO DEALER TWICE DUE TO 1) TRANSMISSION GRINDING FROM 1ST TO 2ND; 2) DIFFICULT ENGAGING INTO 3RD GEAR - BEEN LOCKED OUT, UNABLE TO GET INTO 3RD GEAR ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS; 3) CLUTCH HAS GRABBED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND CAUSING THE ENTIRE CAR TO SHUDDER 4) ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, UNABLE TO SHIFT INTO ANY GEAR WHILE ACCELERATING. HAD TO REPEATEDLY PUMP THE CLUTCH IN ORDER TO SHIFT GEARS; 5) UNABLE TO GET INTO 1ST GEAR AFTER COMING TO A DEAD STOP 6) DIFFICULTY GETTING INTO REVERSE. 1ST TIME I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN DEALER SAID THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND TRIED TO BLAME IS ON THE DRIVER. WHEN OWNER TRIED TO EXPLAIN IN DETAIL EXACTLY WHAT WAS HAPPENING W/ VEHICLE, DEALER REFUSED TO DOCUMENT THE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. 2ND TIME I TOOK IT TO DEALER, DEALER TECHNICIAN IDENTIFIED CONCERN. FORD TECHNICIAN CAME OUT AND VERIFIED CONCERN REGARDING GRINDING, HESITATION GETTING INTO GEARS. TECHNICIAN BLED AND VACUUMED THE CLUTCH BUT THE PROBLEM REMAINS. REGIONAL CUSTOMER MANAGER WAS SUPPOSED TO CONTACT OWNER REGARDING POSSIBLE FIXES. REGIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER WILL NO LONGER RESPOND TO EMAILS. CALLED FORD HEADQUARTERS LAST WEEK TO LODGE A COMPLAINT AND THEY SAID SOMEONE WOULD GET BACK TO ME WITHIN 48 HOURS. TOMORROW WILL BE ONE WEEK...STILL HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING. VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN 7 TIMES FOR MANUAL TRANSMISSION GRINDING DURING GEAR CHANGES LEADING TO AN INABILITY TO ENGAGE GEARS WITH 1ST AND 2ND BEING THE MOST PROBLEMATIC. IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS WHEN YOU MUST ACCELERATE QUICKLY, VALUABLE TIME IS WASTED JUST TRYING TO GET THE CAR INTO GEAR...WHICH PROVES IMPOSSIBLE. THESE CARS ARE EQUIPPED WITH A "SKIP SHIFT" FEATURE THAT LOCKS OUT 2ND AND 3RD FOR FUEL ECONOMY AND A MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED ON THE DASH. MULTITUDES OF OWNERS ARE REPORTING THEY ARE UNABLE TO ENGAGE 2ND GEAR WITH NO WARNING OF IT BEING LOCKED OUT ON THE DASH. THEY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION AT ONLY 2500 MILES AND THEN CHANGED THE VISCOSITY OF THE FLUID USED WHICH FORD CLAIMS IS THE SOLUTION. HOWEVER, I AND OTHERS GETTING THIS REPAIR ARE DISCOVERING IT DOES NOTHING TO FIX THE ISSUE. IN FACT, IT ONLY MAKES THE SHIFTING WORSE AND CAUSES WHINING FROM THE TRANSMISSION. THIS IS HAPPENING TO MANY 2011 MUSTANG OWNERS WITH THE MT82 6-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION (BOTH V6 AND V8). I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS SINCE I BOUGHT MY 2011 MUSTANG V6 EQUIPPED WITH A MT82 MANUAL TRANSMISSION. AT FIRST THE CAR WOULD RESIST SHIFTING INTO 1ST GEAR WHILE FULLY STOPPED, EVEN WITH THE CLUTCH PRESSED TO THE FLOOR. SOON AFTER 2ND GEAR BEGAN RESISTING SHIFTS AND I HAD OCCASIONAL "LOCK-OUTS" WHERE IT WOULD NOT GO INTO 2ND GEAR FREQUENTLY WHILE TURNING LEFT. WHEN THIS HAPPENS I HAD TO UPSHIFT TO 3RD OF IF THERE WAS TRAFFIC IN FRONT I WOULD COAST UNTIL I CAN SAFELY DOWNSHIFT TO 1ST. I HAD THE CAR DIAGNOSED AND SERVICED AT THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY FELT THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY STRETCHED BOLTS IN THE PRESSURE PLATE THAT KEPT THE CLUTCH FROM DISENGAGING. UNFORTUNATELY THIS DIDN'T HELP AND THE SHIFT FEEL CONTINUED TO DEGRADE. TODAY I EXPERIENCED A NEW PROBLEM: I WAS STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION AND WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT INTO 1ST BUT THE SHIFTER ONLY MOVED 90% OF THE WAY FORWARD AND DIDN'T ENGAGE ANY GEARS. IT DIDN'T GRIND EVEN WHEN I LET THE CLUTCH OUT IT JUST WAS AS IF THERE WAS NO 1ST GEAR. I ATTEMPTED TO PULL IT BACK INTO NEUTRAL AND IT RESISTED; IT FELT LOCKED IN. EVENTUALLY I PULLED HARD ENOUGH THAT IT CAME BACK TO NEUTRAL BUT THE SAME THING HAPPENED WHEN I TRIED TO SHIFT INTO 1ST AGAIN. IT WOULDN'T FIND THE GEAR AND GOT STUCK. ALL DURING THIS TIME OF ABOUT 30 SECONDS THERE WERE OTHER DRIVERS THAT HAD EXITED THE HIGHWAY AND HAD TO STOP AND GO AROUND ME WHILE I WAS STUCK AT THE INTERSECTION. I COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN REARENDED. I'VE HAD OTHER NEAR MISSES WHEN I'VE PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF TRAFFIC AND BEEN LOCKED OUT OF 2ND GEAR AS WELL. THE OFFICIAL WORD IS THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT THEY DON'T HAVE A FIX YET. WHEN IT HAPPENS, IT FEELS LIKE THE VIBRATION IS IN THE DRIVETRAIN AREA. SEEMS LIKE IT ALWAYS HAPPENS ABOVE 40MPH. THE SHUDDER/VIBRATION CLOSELY RESEMBLES GOING OVER RUMBLE STRIPS. IT CAN BE UNNERVING AS IT FEELS LIKE SOMETHING IS GOING WRONG WITH THE CAR! I HAVE READ FORUMS AND IT SEEMS LIKE I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON THAT HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM WITH THE 2011 MUSTANG.
