TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 65 MPH WHEN A LOUD DRAGGING NOISE WAS HEARD IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT FOUND THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS PARTIALLY DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE BUT DID NOT RESULT IN A FUEL LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT BOTH FUEL STRAPS WERE CORRODED AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL STRAPS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY DENIED ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIR BECAUSE THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V385000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: STORAGE: TANK ASSEMBLY: MOUNTING). THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 104,271.

FUEL SHUT OFF SWITCH WIRING OR IMPROPER LOCATION. WHEN A PASSENGER IS IN MY VEHICLE THE SWITCH ACTIVATES AND SHUTS OFF FUEL. IT HAS HAPPENED TO MY WIFE,SON, BROTHER, AND MYSELF. ON VERY BUSY HIGHWAYS, PARKING LOT ENTRANCE, AND INTERSECTIONS. HAD PART REPLACED ONCE AT QUITE AN EXPENSE STILL HAVE PROBLEM. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN WHEN ALONE EVEN OFF ROAD WHEN I WOULD EXPECT AN OCCURRENCE. WIFE AND FRIEND ALMOST GOT REARENDED AT BUSY INTERSECTION WHEN THIS HAPPENED CREATED A SERIOUS TRAFFIC PROBLEM. MY SON WAS IN AREA SHOPPING AND WENT TO ASSIST MOTHER HELD DOWN RED TOP OF INERTIA SWITCH. VEHICLE STARTED AND RAN TILL NEXT INCIDENT WHICH THERE HAS BEEN SEVERAL EVEN AFTER REPLACED. THIS COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AND NOT BE SUSPECTED AS CAUSE BECAUSE OF SWITCHES INTENDED USE. THE LAST INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 7/23/2010 AGAIN WAS A DANGEROUS SITUATION ON HIGHWAY AT BUSY TIME OF DAY. *TR

I HAVE A 95 FORD RANGER. THE "FUEL FILLER NECK AND HOSE" HAS BECOME DEFECTIVE TO THE POINT WHERE GAS POURS OUT THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE WHEN I PUT GAS IN THE TRUCK. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL SHOP (NOT A FORD DEALERSHIP) AND CALLED SEVERAL OTHER PLACES AND WAS TOLD BY EVERYONE THAT THIS PART IS NOT SOLD AFTER-MARKET, AND YOU CAN ONLY BUY IT FROM FORD. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT MANY FORD RANGER OWNERS ARE LOOKING FOR THIS SAME PART. I WAS VERY SURPRISED THAT FORD HAD A MONOPOLY ON THIS PART GIVEN THAT IT SUCH A KEY SAFETY COMPONENT. I AM BEING FORCED TO PURCHASE A FORD PART JUST SO MY TRUCK WON'T LEAK GAS, AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY IT'S LEAKING GAS IN THE FIRST PLACE. THAT'S A BASIC SAFETY FEATURE! I UNDERSTAND THAT ALL VEHICLES NEED REPAIR FROM TIME TO TIME, BUT I SHOULD BE ABLE TO PUT GAS IN MY TRUCK WITHOUT FEAR OF FIRE FROM THE LEAK. *TR

HE EXAMINED THE FUEL SYSTEM AND NOTICED THAT THE FILLER NECK HAD PREMATURELY RUSTED IN CERTAIN AREAS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO AFTERMARKET PARTS FOR THE FILLER NECK. THE CONSUMER DISCOVERED A GAS LEAK ABOUT THREE MONTHS AGO. SINCE HE IS A CERTIFIED MECHANIC, HE EXAMINED HIS VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT FUEL WAS LEAKING FROM THE FILLER HOSE. THE FILLER HOSE WAS SOFT AND DETERIORATING AND THE GAS WAS LEAKING FROM THE CRACKS IN THE HOSE. THE CRACKS HAVE BECOME LARGER AND NOW MORE GAS IS LEAKING. THE CONSUMER IS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE FIRE HAZARD. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THE THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE BECAUSE THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE FILLER HOSE. *NM *LA

THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS COMPONENT HAS FAILED. COMPONENT CRACKS AT ATTACHMENT TO FUEL TANK ALLOWING FUEL TO SPILL OUT OF TANK.LAST COMPONENT FAILED ONLY AFTER 17 MONTHS. WHEN A VEHICLE BURNS UP IS ONLY WHEN FORD WILL FIX PROBLEM. DEALER SAYS PART WARRANTY IS ONE YEAR. COME IN AND BUY ANOTHER ONE FOR $100.

CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION IN WHICH A FIRE STARTED WITHIN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, CAUSING THE FUEL TANK TO ERUPT. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
