The contact owns a 2000 Ford Ranger. The contact stated that the entire subframe of the vehicle was corroded and was cracking and disintegrating. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

The back end frame has completely rusted out, while the cab frame is in perfect condition. I have read about everyone that has a ranger from 1995-200 has had this issue. My truck only has 127k miles on it and has been kept in wonderful condition, and the bed frame has made it unsafe to drive.

BOTH THE BACK SEAT SMALL DOORS WERE LOCKED AND UNOPERABLE SINCE 2015 (THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR WITHOUT PAYING FOR SERVICE- THEY SAID WILL COST $1,000.00 FOR EACH DOOR AND JUST TO EXAM COST. THAT WAS NOT THE REPAIR COST YET) 2020 IN AUGUST, PERHAPS, THE BACK GATE DOOR FOR THE TRUNK SUDDENLY COLLAPSED, FELLED OUT FROM THE ROLLER. THAT WAS THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE BACK GATE TO THE BED OF THE TRUCK I HAD TO PUT BACK TO THE ROLLER. AND, IT IS NOT SURE THAT THE GATE IS STABLE CONDITION. UNDER THE DASHBOARD, THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER JUST TOUCHED AND COLLAPSED-BROKEN INSIDE UNDER THE DASHBOARD AND COULD NOT PULL IT OUT. SO, IT IS STILL INSIDE UNDER THE DASHBOARD (NOTICE: THAT FEATURE-THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER NOBODY USED SINCE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE- NON SMOKER OWNER). THE UNDER BODY VEHICLE COST A LOT TO REPAIR THROUGH THE YEARS. THE VEHICLE HAS ABOUT 120,000 MILES CURRENTLY.

ALSO, THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FRAME BEHIND THE CAB WAS FRACTURED DUE TO RUST AND CORROSION. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE FRAME IS ROTTING AWAY.THE BED IS ABOUT TO FLY OFF,AND I FEAR THE REAR BUMPER,AND SPARE IS ALSO.THE TRUCK IS STILL RUNNING GOOD,BUT I AM VERY HESITENT ABOUT USING IT.
I WAS DRIVING MY TRUCK DOWN A MAIN ROAD AND THERE WAS A SMALL POTHOLE.IT WAS ONLY ABOUT AN INCH DEEP BY ABOUT A FOOT AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY TRUCK STARTED MAKING VERY LOUD NOISES GOING DOWN THE ROAD AND ALMOST SEEMING LIKE THE TRUCK DIDN'T WANT TO GO STRAIGHT. I PULLED OVER BECAUSE I WANTED TO CHECK IT AND HERE WAS A MASSIVE CRACK IN THE FRAME BEHIND THE SHACKLE MOUNT IN THE FRONT OF THE WHEEL WELL. THIS WAS CAUSED BY THE GAS TANK MOUNT THAT THE STRAP CONNECTS DO HOLDING DIRT AND MOISTURE BEHIND IT AND ROTTED OUT A HOLE IN THE FRAME. ALSO THE GAS TANK MOUNT ROTTED COMPLEATLY OUT AND IS NO LONGER THERE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE THE SAME PLACE THAT THE FRAME ROTTED OUT. THIS IS A BIG DEFECT BY FORD AS THERE IS NO WAY TO CLEAN IT OUT AND THE FRAME WILL JUST ROT EVEN THOUGH THE BODY OF THE TRUCK IS SPOTLESS AND RUST FREE BECAUSE I WASH THE UNDERCARRIAGE EVERY WEEK AS WELL AS THE WHOLE TRUCK. THIS IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE BECAUSE THE MOISTURE AND DIRT CONSISTAINTLY EAT AWAY AT THE FRAME. ALSO IT IS BAD ENOUGH THAT I POSSIBLY NEED TO TAKE THE TRUCK OFF THE ROAD EVEN THOUGH THE REST OF THE TRUCK IS PERFECT. IT IS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND I CAN'T BELIEVE FORD COULD HAVE OVER LOOKED THIS.

BED SUPPORT CROSSMEMBERS ALL RUSTED ALMOST COMPLETELY OUT LEAVING BED WEAK. THIS IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPLACED. GAS TANK CROSS MEMBER HAS RUSTED OUT AROUND BOTTOM OF MOUNT AND ALSO UP THE INSIDE OF THE FRAME RAILS. GAS TANK HOLDING STRAPS ARE IN PROCESS OF RUSTING OUT AND BREAKING. THESE ARE BEING REPLACED.

I RECENTLY BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE AND ONLY NOTICED HOW SEVERE THE RUST WAS AFTER THE PURCHASE. MY VEHICLE IS EXTREMELY RUSTED ON THE BOTTOM AND HAS SEVERAL RUST HOLES ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF MY VEHICLE. KNOWING THAT AT ANY MOMENT ONE BUMP COULD FINISH THE JOB AND BLOW THE FRAME OFF IS NOT GREAT. A RECALL FOR THE EXTREME RUST DAMAGE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED SINCE I HAVE NO OTHER WAY TO FIX THIS.

I AM THE 2ND OWNER OF THIS TRUCK. FIRST OWNER KEPT TRUCK PRISTINE, WASHED EVERY WEEKEND REGARDLESS OF WEATHER.IT WAS SPOTLESS EXCEPT FOR ROTTEN FRONT BUMPER. TEN MONTHS LATER A FOOT AND HALF OF FRAME BADLY ROTTEN. I WIRED UP REAR BUMPER AND KEPT IT THAT WAY UNTIL I HAD THE MONEY FOR A FRAME WELD. BOUGHT STEEL TO DO THIS. IT WAS LIKE THIS FOR A LONG WHILE AND ROT DID NOT SPREAD. LAST DECEMBER TRUCK WAS IN AN ACCIDENT. I WAS NOT THERE. A FRIEND WAS DRIVING. SHE WAS AT A FULL STOP WAITING AT A LIGHT AND WAS REAR-ENDED. I LATER LOOKED AT THE TRUCK AND IT SEEMED EASILY REPAIRABLE TO ME. ONLY PASSENGER FENDER WRINKLED. I WOULD MAKE A WOODEN BED. WHEN I FINALLY GOT THROUGH THE INSURANCE HASSLES AND MY MECHANIC RECEIVED MY TRUCK IN 2/ 2015. I HAD TO WAIT TO DO ANYTHING WITH IT. WHEN MY MECHANIC AND I LOOKED IT OVER THE FRAME WAS RUSTED BADLY AND CRACKED UP BY THE CAB. CRACK APPEARED TO PREDATE THE ACCIDENT. I'M NOT SURE IF YOU CAN HELP ME.

APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR AGO REAR BRAKE LINES FAILED AT LOW SPEED AND VEHICLE NEARLY COLLIDED WITH PARKED CARS AND ADJANCENT STONE WALL. I WASH THE TRUCK REGULARLY, INCLUDING THE UNDER SIDE, SO I DON'T KNOW WHY IT HAS ROTTED IN SPOTS. I AM VERY UNHAPPY ABOUT THIS, AS I HAVE OLDER TRUCKS THAT HAVE NOT RUSTED, THAT SEE HARSH USE ON OUR FARM. THE FRAME ON MY 2000 FORD RANGER HAS RUSTED THROUGH TO THE POINT I DON'T FEEL SAFE PUTTING ANYTHING IN THE BED OF MY TRUCK. IT NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED BEFORE I WILL EVEN FEEL SAFE PUTTING IT BACK ON THE ROAD. I COULDN'T BELIEVE THE POOR OVERALL CONDITION OF THE FRAME BUT THE WORST PART IS AT THE REAR LEAF SPRING SHACKLES, HOLES COMPLETELY THROUGH. HAVEN'T CHECKED THE REST OF THE FRAME THOROUGHLY BUT WILL THIS WEEK BEFORE I DECIDE IF IT'S EVEN WORTH THE COST OF REPAIRS. THIS WAS VERY DISAPPOINTING TO FIND ON A TRUCK THAT HAS BEEN FAIRLY WELL MAINTAINED OVER THE YEARS. I WISH I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN A FULL SIZE TRUCK. I GUESS I BETTER DO A LITTLE RESEARCH BEFORE I BUY SOMETHING ELSE. I FOUND OUT THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE/WERE AWARE OF THE FRAME ISSUES WITH THESE TRUCKS MANY YEARS AGO. I HAVE A 2000 FORD RANGER 4X4. THE FRAME IS ROTTING AWAY TOWARDS THE BACK END OF THE TRUCK. IN 2011, THE REAR BUMPER WAS FALLING OFF. I HAD TO REMOVE IT BEFORE IT COMPLETELY CAME OFF. I WAS AFRAID IT WOULD FALL OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING. IN 2008 I TOWED A CAR A COUPLE OF HUNDRED MILES ON THE HIGHWAY. I SHUDDER TO THINK HOW WEAK THAT BUMPER WAS AND WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED IF THE CAR I TOWED WAS A BIT HEAVIER. AROUND THE SAME TIME I HAD TO REMOVE THE SPARE TIRE FROM ITS HOLDER UNDER THE TRUCK BED - THE SPARE TIRE AND BRACKETRY WAS SLOWLY SAGGING TO THE GROUND. AGAIN, IT WAS REMOVED BEFORE IT COMPLETELY FELL OFF. MOST RECENTLY BOTH REAR LEAF SPRINGS AND THEIR BRACKETS COMPLETELY RUSTED AWAY FROM THE FRAME. THE WHOLE REAR END OF THE FRAME NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS TRUCK HAS BECOME UNSAFE TO DRIVE - IT ONLY HAS 135,000 OR SO MILES ON IT. NOT REALLY AN INCIDENT, MORE OF A COMPLAINT. WE BOUGHT A 2000 RANGER APPROXIMATELY A YEAR AGO. THE SPARE TIRE WAS MISSING AND WE FOUND OUT WHY. THE SPARE TIRE WINCH ASSEMBLY WAS A BLOCK OF RUST AND THE SHEET METAL THAT MADE UP THE HOLDER THAT THE CARRIER WAS ATTACHED TO IS SO SEVERELY ROTTED THAT IT COULD NOT POSSIBLY EVEN HOLD A TIRE. THE SHEET METAL MENTIONED IS A STRUCTURAL PART OF THE REAR FRAME AND IT HAS MAJOR ROT AND SHOULD PROBABLY BE REPLACED. MY SON NEEDED A SPARE TIRE SO SINCE THERE WAS NO HOLDER HE PUT IT IN THE BED. WHEN HE PUT IT IN THE BED IN BOUNCED TO THE RIGHT AND PUT A LARGE HOLE IN THE SIDE OF THE BED JUST BEHIND THE CAB. WE STARTED TO CHECK OUT THE REST OF THE BED ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT IT WAS SO RUSTED THAT IT WAS LITERALLY STATING TO CRUMBLE IN SPOTS. WHILE CHECKING IT OUT WE PUT SEVERAL MORE HOLES IN THE FLOOR OF THE BED AND THE SIDES JUST BY POKING AROUND WITH A SCREWDRIVER. THE BED IS A STEPSIDE AND THERE IS NO METAL LEFT UNDER THE STEPS AT ALL, IF YOU WERE TO STEP ON EITHER SIDE YOU WOULD CRACK THE FIBERGLASS SIDES. WE ARE NOW IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING TO REPLACE THE BED. ALL OF THE BOLTS HAD TO BE CUT OUT DUE TO THE RUST. ONCE WE GOT THE BED OFF WE WERE SHOCKED TO SEE THAT THE FRAME WAS COVERED TOP TO BOTTOM WITH RUST. I HAVE RESTORED OLDER TRUCKS IN THE PAST SOME FROM THE 40'S AND I HAVE NEVER ENCOUNTERED RUST LIKE I HAVE SEEN ON THIS ONE, IT ALMOST LOOKS LIKE THERE WAS NO PAINT ON IT FROM THE FACTORY AT ALL. WE ARE STILL IN THE PROCESS OF WIRE BRUSHING THE FRAME SO WE CAN SPRAY A RUST CONVERTER AND TRY TO REPAINT THE FRAME. I HAVE READ SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE RUST ON THESE TRUCKS AND FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT FORD SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE JUST LIKE TOYOTA WAS WHEN THEY HAD A SIMILAR SITUATION INVOLVING RUSTED FRAMES ON THEIR TRUCKS. I DIDN'T KNOW HOW SEVERE IT WAS UNTIL I NOTICED THE LEFT REAR SIDE OF MY TRUCK SAGGING NOTICEABLY. I LOOKED UNDERNEATH AND SAW THE SUSPENSION COMPONENTS HAD RUSTED AND CORRODED SO BADLY THAT THEY ARE NO LONGER PHYSICALLY CONNECTED TO THE VEHICLE AND THE UNDERSIDE OF THE BED OF THE TRUCK IS NOW RESTING ON THE DISCONNECTED SUSPENSION COMPONENTS. A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF THE FRAME HAS CORRODED AWAY, ABOUT A 6X6 SQUARE PORTION JUST IN THIS PARTICULAR AREA. I ALSO NOTICED AT THIS TIME THAT ONE OF TWO STRAPS HOLDING UP THE FUEL TANK WAS HANGING COMPLETELY LOOSE. THE MOUNT FOR THE STRAP WHICH IS WELDED TO THE FRAME WAS ALSO COMPLETELY CORRODED AWAY. IF THE OTHER STRAP WERE TO FAIL IN THE SAME MANNER THE FUEL TANK WOULD NO LONGER HAVE ANY WAY OF STAYING ATTACHED TO THE VEHICLE. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE THE AMOUNT OF PHYSICAL HARM AND DAMAGE THIS COULD CAUSE TO MYSELF AND/OR OTHER MOTORISTS IF I WERE DRIVING ON THE STREET OR HIGHWAY WHEN THAT OCCURRED. THE SUSPENSION COMPONENTS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE ALSO ARE SEVERELY CORRODED TO THE POINT THAT THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. TL* -THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD RANGER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INSPECTION STATION. THE TECHNICIAN OBSERVED THAT THE FRAME EXHIBITED MASSIVE HOLES. IN ADDITION, THE FRAME WAS FRACTURED IN TWO. THE REAR VEHICLE BUMPER WAS NOT FASTENED CORRECTLY WHICH CONTRIBUTED TO THE FAILURE. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 103, 733.

I FIRST NOTICED A SQUEAKING NOISE AND WHILE INVESTIGATING I FOUND THAT MY TRUCKS FRAME IS TOTALLY RUSTED AND HAS CRACKED ON BOTH SIDES AT THE REAR WHEELS. THE TRUCK IS A 2000 FORD RANGER WITH EXCELLENT BODY INTEGRITY AND LITTLE OTHER RUST. BOTH MY MECHANIC AND THE TOW TRUCK OPERATOR SAID THEY HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS. BOTH SAID THAT I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED OR KILLED OTHERS IF THE FRAME SNAPPED. THE TOW OPERATOR SAID THAT TOYOTA'S HAVING A "SILENT RECALL" OF TRUCKS 1995-2000 WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I NOW HAVE A TRUCK WITH NO WARRANTY THAT IS UNDRIVEABLE BUT HAS AN OUTSTANDING LOAN AGAINST IT. FORD IS NOT ADDRESSING THIS ISSUE. *TR

TAILGATE OFTEN VERY DIFFICULT TO OPEN. ONE SIDE OF HANDLE PULLS UP MORE AND KEEPS THE LATCH FROM OPENING. OFTEN HAVE TO PUSH ON THE TAILGATE WITH SHOULDER WHILE PULLING LATCH TO GET IT OPEN. ALSO STEERING WHEEL IS LOOSE AND STEERING IS NOT PRECISE VERY WOBBLY. HAVE NOT HAD IT LOOKED AT YET BUT MY MECHANIC SAYS IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2000 RANGERS AND THAT THE STEERING KNUCKLE CAN BE DEFECTIVE AND BE DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AS IS.DT
CONSUMER WAS IN MOTION WHEN THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. IT BEGAN IN OR UNDER THE BED OF THE PICKUP. CONSUMER STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND ATTEMPTED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE BUT WAS UNABLE TO DO SO. THE VEHICLE AND IT'S CONTENTS WERE ENGULFED IN THE FIRE. *JG
WHEN DRIVING THERE WILL BE A WHINING NOISE PRESENT AND STEERING WHEEL WILL BECOME STIFF. STEERING HAS LOCKED UP BEFORE DUE TO MAIN DRIVE BELT BREAKING. DEALER HAS REPLACED POWER STEERING PUMP, BUT PROBLEM STILL EXISTS.*AK FRONT BRAKES NEEDED REPLACING AND THE ROTORS WERE TURNED. THE TAILGATE WILL NOT UNLATCH PERIODICALLY AND THEN COMES OPEN BY ITSELF. THE FRONT RODS WERE OUT OF ADJUSTMENT. *JG
WHEN DRIVING ON AN INCLINE, THE DRIVER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, BUT VEHICLE DID NOT SLOW DOWN. THE BRAKES KICKED IN, AND MOMENTS LATER, THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. *AK THE CONSUMER STATES THAT THE HE KEPT ASKING THE DEALER TO REMEDY THE STEERING-3 TIMES. THE CONSUMER HAD TO KEEP TAKING THE VEHICLE TO GET A FRONT END ALIGNMENT EVERY FEW DAYS. THE TAIL GATE LATCH DOES NOT OPERATE, THE WIND IS STILL LEAKING AROUND THE DOOR, THE POWER STEERING PUMP MAKE NOISE OVERHEAD/PERIODICALLY LOCKS UP AND THROWS OFF THE DRIVE BELT AND BECOMES HARD TO STEER, THERE IS A VIBRATION IN THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL/ROARING NOISE-ROTATED TIRES. *SCC

CONSUMER STATED THAT THIS WAS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT WHICH HAS CAUSED VEHICLE TO BECOME UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *AK CONSUMER STATES VEHICLE WAS LIKE THIS WHEN IT WAS BOUGHT NEW, HOWEVER DEALER STATED IT WOULD BE FIXED AND EVERYTIME THEY TRIED TO CONTACT DEALER THEY WOULD TURN THEIR BACKS ON THE CONSUMER. *SLC
BOTH FRONT SHOCKS HAVE LEAKED OIL OUT, UNEVEN TIRE WEAR, CRACKS INSIDE BUMPER, HEADLINER AND OTHER BODY JOINTS SHIFTING POSITION, LEFT RADIATOR MOUNT COMPRESSED BADLY. THIS IS THE SECOND RANGER I HAVE SEEN THIS ON TODAY.*AK
