Problem with fuel pump city switch keeps burning up and causing my truck to to die while I’m driving it. I have got it checked by a mechanic shop and the problem keeps happening. The fuel pump, the cut off switch and the connector and wires have all been replaced and it still continues to happen. This has been happening for years and is causing me to almost get in a car accident.

INERTIAL FUEL PUMP SHUT OFF SWITCH KEPT SHUTTING DOWN VEHICLE... IT HAPPENED TWICE IN TRAFFIC THAT I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE ENOUGH MOMENTUM TO COAST OUT OF HARMS WAY. LAST TIME IT OCCURRED WAS PARKED AND WOULDN'T RESET, SO I ELIMINATED IT AND WIRED DIRECT WITHOUT THE SWITCH. NO PROBLEM SINCE. NO OTHER VEHICLE HAS SWITCH LIKE THIS THAT I'M AWARE OF. I ELIMINATED IT!!!

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW FAILED TO MANUALLY OPEN OR CLOSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CRANK AND TIMING GEAR NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT ALSO RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 15V322000 (AIR BAGS) AND 16V036000 (AIR BAGS); HOWEVER, THE PARTS TO DO THE REPAIR WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUES. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.

FORD VEHICLE LOST POWER AND STOPPED RUNNING WITH FULL TANK OF FUEL. WOULD NOT RESTART, HAD TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP. REPLACED FUEL PUMP FOR $606.99. DROVE ABOUT A MILE AND SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. FOUND THAT THE FUEL INERTIA SHUT OFF SWITCH NEEDED RE-SETTING. BOUGHT A FUEL PUMP I DIDN'T NEED. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES THIS YEAR AGAIN. FORD DEALER SAID I NEEDED A FUEL PUMP. (35,000 MILES) AGAIN, NO WAY. THE REPLACEMENT PART (INERTIA SWITCH) MOVES THE SWITCH FROM PASSENGER FLOOR AREA TO SIDE KICK PANEL. THE DESIGN CHANGE SHOWS DESIGN FLAW. FORD SHOULD REPLACE FOR NO COST. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN ENGINE DIES.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A DEFECT WITH THE SAFETY SWITCH, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A SHORT IN THE SAFETY SWITCH, WHICH CUT FUEL LINES THAT ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO OPERATE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SAFETY SWITCH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS TO THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 23,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED DUE TO A FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND THEY STATED THE FIRE COULD HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY THE BATTERY. THE CONTACT DID NOT CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE FIRE COULD HAVE BURNED DOWN HER HOME IF THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED CLOSER TO THE HOUSE. THE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE UNKNOWN.

INERTIA SWITCH IN 2006 FORD RANGER CAUSES TRUCK TO STALL RANDOMLY. SWITCH IS LOCATED ON PASSENGER-SIDE IN COMPARTMENT BY THE FOOT. THIS RANDOM STALLING IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS WHILE IN THREE LANE TRAFFIC, RAILROAD CROSSINGS, INTERSECTIONS, BRIDGES, ETC.. THIS SWITCH IS DESIGNED TO CUT ELECTRIC TO FUEL PUMP IN CRASH BUT MOST OFTEN FAILS DURING NORMAL DRIVING OPERATION. THIS IS NOT A UNIQUE COMPLAINT TO 2006, BUT BY OTHER YEARS REPORTED ON THE INTERNET. THIS PROBLEM HAS EXISTED FOR MANY YEARS AND IS PROBABLY RESPONSIBLE FOR MORE DEATHS DUE TO ERRANT OPERATION THAN IT SAVED LIVES IN A CRASH. I WAS IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC IN MY 2006 FORD RANGER WITH APPROXIMATELY 3500 MILES ON IT WHEN ENGINE SPUTTERED AND STOPPED AS I TRIED TO ACCELERATE. THE GAS TANK WAS NEAR FULL AND THE TRUCK WOULD NOT RESTART AFTER I COASTED ACROSS A LANE OF MOVING TRAFFIC ONTO THE MEDIAN. HAVING EXPERIENCED A SIMILAR PROBLEM IN MY 1986 RANGER, I CALLED THE DEALER SERVICE CENTER TO ASK WHERE THE FUEL SAFETY SHUT OFF SWITCH WAS LOCATED. AFTER BEING ASSURED THAT THE SWITCH COULD NOT BE THE PROBLEM UNLESS I HAD BEEN IN A COLLISION OR HIT A VERY LARGE POT-HOLE, I RESET THE SWITCH AND THE TRUCK STARTED. THE SWITCHES IN THESE TRUCKS APPARENTLY HAS A DEFECT THAT HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED FOR 20 YEARS. THE SERVICE PEOPLE SEEM TO BE UNAWARE OF THE ISSUE AND I SUSPECT THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SOLD FUEL PUMPS AND OTHER RELATED ITEMS THAT WERE NOT THE PROBLEM. I AM JUST GLAD IT DIDN'T HAPPEN AT 65 MPH. *JB

TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE THE 2006 FORD RANGER THE PASSENGER KICKED THE EMERGENCY SHUT OFF SWITCH AND THE DRIVER WAS UNABLE TO START THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT COMPLAINED THAT THERE SHOULD BE A COVER OVER THE SWITCH BECAUSE THE SWITCH COULD BE EASILY KICKED WHILE DRIVING, AND THE VEHICLE WOULD SHUT OFF INSTANTLY, LOSING ALL POWER WHILE IN TRAFFIC. *AK

I BOUGHT MY TRUCK BRAND NEW LAST MONTH ON APRIL 18TH I HAVE JUST OVER 1000 MILES ON IT AND WITHIN THE FIRST 400 MILES I HAD PROBLEMS WITH STARTING THE TRUCK, WHEN I TURN THE KEY MOST OF THE TIME IT STARTS, BUT OCCASIONALLY IF I LET GO OF THE KEY ABOUT THE TIME IT NORMALLY STARTS THE ENGINE DIES AND ONCE WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO START IT AGAIN I HEARD THE STARTER MAKE THE NOISE LIKE IT DOES IF YOU TURN THE KEY AND THE ENGINE IS ALREADY RUNNING. ALSO MY TRANSMISSION WILL OCCASIONALLY JERK WHEN IT SHIFTS GEARS. I TOOK THE TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT IT AT AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE TECH DROVE IT AND THE SHOP MANAGER DROVE IT TOO AND THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. I AM STILL HAVING THIS PROBLEM, I WOULD HATE TO HAVE THE PROBLEM CONTINUE AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES AND THEN I AM STUCK WITH A HUGE BILL TO FIX IT. *JB
