TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1993 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE COIL SPRINGS AND STRUTS FAILED AND THE SWAY BAR WAS DAMAGED. PRIOR TO THIS INFORMATION, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRONT END WAS LOWER THAN NORMAL. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 98I002000 (SUSPENSION:FRONT:SPRINGS:COIL SPRINGS) WAS REFERENCED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 150,000.

THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 98V094000 (SUSPENSION:FRONT:SPRINGS:COIL SPRINGS). THE MANUFACTURER WAS UNABLE TO ASSIST. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 108,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,000.

NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS CONCERNING LEAKING HEAD GASKETS. *BF THE VEHICLE HAS HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE WHICH INCLUDE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD, COOLING FAN, IGNITION WIRING, COIL SPRING FAILURE, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED, ALTERNATOR, HEAD GASKET AND MUFFLER. WHILE RESEARCHING THE VEHICLE ON NHTSA SITE THE CONSUMER DISCOVERED SEVERAL RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE RELATED THE FAILURES HIS VEHICLE EXPERIENCED. *NM

WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE FRONT COIL SPRING WAS CUT INTO THE TIRE AND CAUSED A TIRE BLOWOUT. THE CONSUMER MANAGED TO PULL OVER AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED. *AK RECALL# 98I002000. THE CONSUMER'S SON WAS DRIVING WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED AND ASSUMED THAT THE TIRE WAS THE PROBLEM UNTIL THE OTHER SIDE BLEW OUT. THE SERVICE DEALER FOUND THAT THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS HAD BROKEN AND HAD CUT INTO THE TIRES. LATER, A TRUSTED MECHANIC OF THE CONSUMER'S FOUND THAT THE SPRING CATCHER BRACKET THAT WAS INSTALLED BY FORD HAD FAILED TO PREVENT THE BROKEN SPRING FROM PUNCTURING THE TIRE. (THE STOP GAG MEASURE DID NOT WORK PROPERLY TO RECTIFY THE DEFECTIVE COILS) *SC *JB

RT FROUNT LOWER CONTROLL ARM ASSEMBLY- FROM MILEAGE OF APPROX. 63000 TO PRESENT, 112,000, THE LOWER CONTROLL ARM ASSEMBLY HAS HAD TO BE REPALCED 3 TIMES AND RETORKED 1. I ALSO HAD TO PAY FOR REALIGNMENT AT EACH REPAIR. NOW AFTER THE 3RD REPLACEMENT THE CAR SHIMMIES AND PULLES TO THE LEFT, WHICH IT DID NOT DO BEFORE REPAIR. THE DEALER MORE OR LESS TOLD ME TOO BAD. ONE OF THE REPAIRS WAS NOT DONE BY FORD THERE FOR NOT RELIABLE. THIS CAR HAS A FILE 2 INCHES THICK FROM MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS. THERE STILL ISN'T ANY EXPAINATION OF WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM.

THE CAMPAIGN STATES THAT REGISTERED OWNERS IN CERTAIN STATES WERE NOTIFIED OF THIS DEFECT. MY FATHER, THE ORIGINAL OWNER, WAS NEVER NOTIFIED. OF COURSE, FORD SAYS HE WAS AND SAYS THE US POSTAL SERVICE FAILED. SINCE MY FATHER LIVES IN FLORIDA, I DOUBT THAT HE WAS EVER NOTIFIED. HOW CAN THIS DEFECT BE TRANSFERRED TO ME, THE NEXT OWNER, IF THE ORIGINAL OWNER WAS NEVER NOTIFIED? I THINK FORD SHOULD REPLACE THE BROKEN COIL SPRING, FREE OF CHARGE. VEHICLE STALLS OUT WHILE DRIVING. CONTACTED DEALER, HAD HEAD GASKET REPLACED. HOWEVER, PROBLEM REOCCURRED. HAD HEAD GASKET REPLACED AGAIN. *AK CONSUMER HAS BEEN ADVISED THAT THE ENTIRE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, THE PAN PLUG LEFT UNDONE CAUSING VEHICLE TO LOSE OIL, THE RADIATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO OVER TORQUE BOLTS WHICH BURSTED AROUND THE CORE, THE ENGINE IS KNOCKING AND THE OIL LIGHT ILLUMINATED DUE TO LACK OF OIL. CONSUMER HAS LOST TRUST IN THE DEALERSHIP. HEAD LIGHTS FAILED, LIGHT SWITCH WAS REPLACED. THE WIPERS WERE NOISY, DEALER REPLACED THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH AND WIPER MOTOR. THERE IS A POPPING NOISE WHEN TURNING, THERE IS A RUBBING NOISE IN THE RIGHT FRONT ON TURNS AND WHEN BACKING UP. THE AIR CONDITIONER IS NOT BLOWING COLD AIR, SHRATER VALVE AND A/C REFRIGERANT WAS REPLACED. THE KEY SWITCH FAILED. THE FAULTY ANTENNA MOTOR FAILED. THE MASTER CYLINDER HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE RIGHT FRONT MOTOR MOUNT BURST BECAUSE IT IS HYDRAULIC THIS ALWAYS HAPPENS WHEN THE RACK AND PINION GOES OUT. THE TRANSMISSION ALSO HAS A DEFECT IN THE FOURTH GEAR RATIO AND SHOWS ON THE DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER WHEN SERVICED.

WHILE CROSSING A SET OF RAILROAD TRACKS THERE WAS A LOUD BANG AND A DROP IN THE RIGHT FRONT OF THE CAR. I PROCEEDED ABOUT 1000 FEET TO WHERE I WORK AND PARKED. WHEN I WENT TO LEAVE THAT NIGHT, THERE WAS A LOUD GROANING FROM THE CAR AS I STARTED TO MOVE IT. THE DAMAGE WAS REPAIRED BY FIRESTONE DEALERSHIP. THEY STATED THE COIL SPRING WAS CORRODED AND BROKE IN TWO, DAMAGING THE STRUT AND BREAKING THE STRUT BEARING PLATE. I LATER FOUND OUT FORD HAD RECALLED SOME TAURUS MODELS FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM. I CONTACTED FORD WHO STATED MY CAR WAS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL NOTICE. THEY WOULD NOT SAY WHY NOT BUT REFERRED ME TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER CONCERNING TWO ADDITIONAL RECALLS THAT DO APLY TO MY CAR. OUR '93 TAURUS BROKE A COIL SPRING AT 30K MILES AND THE OTHER AT 40K. I PAID TO HAVE BOTH REPAIRS DONE. I WROTE TO FORD TO COMPLAIN WHICH DIDN'T HELP ANY. NOW THE CAR HAS BEEN RECALLED. I HAVE BEEN WAITING SINCE JULY'98 TO BE REIMBURSED WHICH FORD SAID THEY WOULD DO IN THE RECALL LETTER. I ALSO HAD THE PROTECTIVE SHIELDS ADDED AS RECOMMENDED IN THE RECALL AT NO CHARGE. NOW I CAN'T GET THE DEALER TO REMOVE THEM. EVERY TIME THE BODY SWAYS, SUCH AS GOING OVER A DIP IN THE ROAD, IT CAUSES A LOUD BANGING NOISE. I SUSPECT THE SHIELDS ARE BOTTOMING OUT ON THE TIRES.
