THE CONTACT FELT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE IN THE EVENT THAT THE DAY TIME RUNNING LAMPS, HIGH BEAMS, AND FOG LIGHTS SHORT OUT. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

WHEN I CALLED DEALER THEY SAID THERES NOTHING THEY CAN DO BECAUSE THEY ARE NO MORE RECALLS ON THAT. BUT I THINK THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND CAN CAUSE GREAT DANGER.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD TAURUS. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 04V106000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH) AND WAS REPAIRED. APPROXIMATELY TWO YEARS AFTER THE REPAIR, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE AND THE GEAR SHIFTER COULD NOT BE RELEASED FROM PARK. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE GEAR SHIFTER TO NEUTRAL AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

I AM HAVING ISSUES EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 04V106000. I HAVE A 2000 FORD TAURUS WHERE THE THE STOMP LAMP MALFUNCTIONS WHEN USING THE BRAKES. WHEN I CALLED FUTURE FORD OF ROSEVILLE, CA IN THE AUTOMALL THEY LOOKED UP MY VIN # AND INFORMED ME THAT THIS RECALL IS NOT IN THEIR LIST FOR MY VEHICLE. BUT THAT THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE HAD THE STOP LAMP REPLACED ALREADY IN YEAR 2000 FOR THE SAME SYMPTOMS. I TOLD THEM THAT THIS IS A SAFETY RECALL OF THE SAME YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL AS MY CAR WITH THE SAME EXACT SYMPTOMS AS FOUND IN THE NHTSA RECALL ARTICLE. THERE WAS NOT MUCH INTEREST IN MY PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NO RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE. TO ME THIS APPEARS THAT THIS SHOULD APPLY TO MY CAR ALSO. TOO MUCH OF A COINCIDENCE TO HAVE THE SAME YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL WITH THE SAME ISSUES AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL AND HAVING THE PART ALREADY REPLACE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ALTHOUGH RECALL NUMBER 01V075000, EXTERIOR LIGHTING, HEADLIGHTS SWITCH WAS RELATED TO THE FAILURE, HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE UNDER 75,000.

THE HEADLAMP SWITCH KNOB IS FRACTURED AND DOES NOT CORRECTLY ATTACH TO THE HEADLAMP SWITCH. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP IN MACON, GA, AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS SPECIFIC RECALL DOES NOT APPLY TO MY VIN NUMBER, EVEN THOUGH I HAVE THE SAME MAKE, MODEL, AND YEAR CAR. MY ONLY OPTION THE DEALERSHIP GAVE ME WAS TO PAY $80 TO INSTALL A COMPLETE NEW LIGHT SWITCH, EVEN THOUGH ALL I NEED IS A NEW KNOB. I WAS TOLD THAT THE KNOB IS NOT SOLD AS A SEPARATE PART, ONLY AS A COMPLETE NEW SWITCH. I WOULD LIKE THIS RECALL EXTENDED TO CARS LIKE MINE. THE ONLY SOLUTION FOR THIS WAS TO REPLACE THE HEADLIGHTS FOR A COST OF $155.00 AND WITH ONLY A YEAR WARRANTY OR 12,000 MILE. CONSUMER SPOKE TO A JUNK YARD, AND THEY SAID THAT THIS HAD BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE 1985. CONSUMER OWNED THIS CAR SINCE IT WAS NEW, I, AND JUST NOTICED THIS LAST WEEK. IF THE GREASE FROM THE ADJUSTABLE PEDAL ASSEMBLY ENTERS THE STOP LAMP SWITCH, IT CAN CONTAMINATE THE CONTACTS LEADING TO CARBON BUILD UP, AND POTENTIALLY, A SHORT CIRCUIT. POOR DESIGN ON BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH ON BRAKE PEDAL. THE WIRES THAT CONNECT TO THE BRAKE INDICATOR SWITCH ARE MOUNTED ON THE FRONT END OF THE BRAKE PEDAL. THEY ARE POSITIONED 3-4 INCHES ABOVE FOOT LEVEL, A LOCATION WHERE THE WIRES ARE VULNERABLE TO BEING SHEARED OFF WITH AN ERRANT FOOT. ADDITIONALLY, THE WIRE COMING FROM THE WIRE LOOM IS TOO SHORT, LEADING TO STRAIN ON THE WIRE. THE RESULT IS THE WIRE DISCONNECTS AND YOU LOSE THE BRAKE LIGHTS. IN OUR CASE, THE WIRE HELD ON ONLY BY THE INSULATION AND WOULD CONNECT WHEN THE BRAKE WAS LIGHTLY APPLIED (ALLOWING YOU TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK), BUT WOULD FAIL WHEN THE BRAKE WAS FULLY DEPRESSED*AK.

THE BRAKE LAMP SWITCH WAS REPLACED ON THIS CAR UNDER A "SAFETY RECALL" BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY. THEY STATED THAT THE SWITCH MAY FAIL, AND COULD CAUSE THE BRAKE LAMPS TO STAY LIT, OR NOT COME ON AT ALL. THIS WAS DONE AT AROUND 15,000 MILES. AT 39,000 MILES THE SWITCH HAS FAILED AGAIN. THE BRAKE LAMPS WILL NOT COME ON, I CANNOT MOVE THE GEAR SELECTOR OUT OF "PARK", AND THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOT DISABLE WHEN YOU PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS SAFETY HAZARD, AND FORD HAS ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM BY REPLACING THE SWITCH, BUT, UNFORTUNATELY, THE REPLACEMENT SWITCHES ARE ALSO DEFECTIVE. THE DEFECT OBVIOUSLY CAUSES SEVERAL SAFETY HAZARDS AND SERIOUS RISK OF AN ACCIDENT. THE WORST PART IS, MY DEALER HAS INFORMED ME THAT THE RECALL HAS ALREADY BEEN PERFORMED, AND I WILL HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THE RECALL WORK DONE AGAIN. #1 WIRE TO THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH LOCATED ON THE BRAKE PREDAL BROKE AT THE WIRE TO SWITCH CONNECTOR. THE WIRE LOOM WAS MOUNTED TO0 SHORT AND DID NOT ALLOW FOR BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL. THE INITIAL PROBLEM WAS FOR INTERMITTEN BRAKE LIGHTS. THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM AT WHICH TIME I TROUBLE SHOOTED THE PROBLEM MY SELF. WITH NO BRAKE LIGHTS THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT COME OUT OF PARK AND THERE WAS NO BRAKE LIGHTS WHEN STOPPING CAUSING A POTENTIAL ACCIDENT. ADDITIONAL WIRE WAS ADDED TO THE FACTORY WIRING AT THE SWITCH CONNECTOR TO ALLOW FOR BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL. THIS COULD CAUES POTENTIAL WIREING PROBLEMS AT A LWTER DATE. ALL REPAIRS WERE MADE BY SELF.
