THE CAR WILL SOMETIMES STAY AT HIGH RPMS EVEN WHEN PRESSURE IS RELEASED ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THIS HAPPENED TO ME IN 2018 WHEN I FIRST GOT THE CAR AND HAS HAPPENED RECENTLY IN DECEMBER 2020. IN THE FIRST EPISODE, I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE AND THE CAR DID NOT SLOW DOWN UNTIL I SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL. IN THE SECOND, MY WIFE HAD TO THROW IT INTO PARK. MY HIGH BEAM LIGHT INDICATOR IS ON BUT THE LOW BEAMS ARE ON. WHEN I PUSH THE SWITCH TO TURN MY HIGH BEAMS ON THEY TURN ON BUT THE LIGHT INDICATOR TURNS OFF AND WHEN SWITCH MY HIGH BEAMS ON MY SPEEDOMETER STARTS KINDA WORKING, OTHERWISE IT DOESN'T WORK AT ALL.
THE THROTTLE CABLE HOUSING DOES NOT STAY IN IT'S SEAT WHERE IT IS MOUNTED BY THE THROTTLE BODY CAUSING OVER ACCELERATION WHEN USING MODERATE ACCELERATION, VERY HARD BRAKING IS NECSESARY TO STOP AND PUTTING THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL CAUSES MAJOR OVER REVING OF THE ENGINE.

I WAS ENTERING ONTO THE FREEWAY, AND WHEN I ACCELERATED TO REACH 60MPH, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT MY FOOT ON THE PEDAL, AND HAD TO USE MY BRAKES CONTINUOUSLY TO KEEP FROM CRASHING INTO OTHER CARS UNTIL I COULD GET IT SAFELY PULLED OVER TO THE EMERGENCY LANE, AND FORCING THE STOP WITH ALL I HAD. THE WHOLE CAR WAS SHAKING. QUITE SCARY. HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT THE CRUISE CABLE BROKE AND GOT CAUGHT ON THE ACCELERATOR CABLE WHICH CAUSED SUDDEN AND UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. WHILE RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE, FOUND OTHERS WHO EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING. WHY THERE ISN'T A RECALL ON THIS, I WILL NEVER KNOW. IF THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF MALFUNCTIONS RESULTING IN POSSIBLE CRASH, DON'T YOU THINK THE MANUFACTURER WOULD PUT THE CONSUMER FIRST, INVESTIGATE IT, AND MAKE IT RIGHT? I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD.

I INVESTIGATED AND FOUND CRUISE CONTROL CABLE CASING HAD COME OUT OF PLASTIC RETAINER CLIP AND END OF CABLE HOUSING CAUGHT ON PLASTIC RETAINING CLIP CAUSING THROTTLE TO REMAIN OPEN APPROXIMATELY 1/2 INCH OFF IDLE! *TR

THE FAILURE CAUSED THE CRUISE CONTROL TO BECOME STUCK WHEN PRESSING THE THROTTLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT NO SOLUTION WAS OFFERED. LUCKILY, BOTH TIMES I WAS FAIRLY CLOSE TO HOME AND MADE IT WITHOUT CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT, I FOUND WHERE THE CABLE WAS GETTING HUNG UP. I SPRAYED IT WITH WD-40, BUT THAT OBVIOUSLY DID NOT DO THE TRICK AS IT HAPPENED AGAIN TODAY. I'VE READ WHERE OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE AND, GIVEN THIS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION, AM SHOCKED THAT THE NHTSA HASN'T TAKEN ACTION. *TR

IN THE ELEVEN YEARS I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE THIS IS THE FOURTH INSTANCE OF THE VEHICLE SURGING. TO RECOVER FROM THIS CONDITION IT WAS NECESSARY TO TURN THE IGNITION OFF, PLACE THE VEHICLE IN PARK, AND ATTEMPT TO RESTART. IT TOOK THREE ATTEMPTS AT RESTARTING TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. WHILE DRIVING UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS AT A STEADY SPEED, THE CAR BEGAN TO SPEED UP RAPIDLY, REACHING NEAR 55 MPH WITHIN SECONDS. THE ENGINE STAYED AROUND 4,000 RPM AND USING THE BRAKES ONLY SLOWED THE VEHICLE, BUT COULD NOT STOP IT. TO AVOID A CRASH, THE ONLY OPTION I HAD WAS TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL AND TURN IN TO A PARKING LOT. ONCE IN NEUTRAL, THE ENGINE'S RPM REMAINED CLOSE TO 4,000. AFTER TURNING THE IGNITION OFF, I INSPECTED UNDER THE HOOD OF THE CAR TO FIND THAT THE FLIMSY PLASTIC PIECE THAT HOLDS THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE IN THE PROPER POSITION WAS BROKEN IN SEVERAL PLACES, LEAVING THE CABLE FREE TO GET CAUGHT ON WHAT IS LEFT OF THE PLASTIC PIECE EXTREMELY EASILY. SINCE THAT INCIDENT, THE EXACT SAME SITUATION HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. DUE TO THE PLASTIC PIECE BEING BROKEN, THE CABLE DOES NOT SIT INSIDE THE PLASTIC PIECE AS INTENDED, WHICH HAS CAUSED THE RPM TO STAY HIGHER THAN NORMAL AT ALL TIMES WHEN THE CAR IS IN GEAR. WHILE DRIVING, REMOVING MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO BEGIN DECELERATING BEFORE A STOP HAS NO EFFECT, AS IF THE CRUISE CONTROL IS ENGAGED AT ALL TIMES. SLOWING THE VEHICLE CAN ONLY BE DONE BY USING THE BRAKES. THIS SITUATION CAME VERY SUDDENLY WITH ABSOLUTELY NO PRIOR SIGNS OR SYMPTOMS OF ANY PROBLEM. THE RAPID, UNCONTROLLABLE ACCELERATION POSES A SEVERE SAFETY THREAT TO DRIVER AND ANYBODY AROUND THE VEHICLE. LUCKILY THERE WAS NOT ANY TRAFFIC WHEN THIS HAPPENED TO ME, AND THERE WAS A PARKING LOT NEARBY TO EXIT THE ROAD. IF THIS HAPPENED WHILE IN MODERATE TO HEAVY TRAFFIC, A CRASH WOULD BE VERY LIKELY. THIS ISSUE IS UNPREDICTABLE AND HAS HAPPENED TO ME AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 70 MPH AND AT ROAD SPEEDS OF 35 MPH. I HAVE SINCE DECIDED TO PARK MY CAR AND NOT OPERATE IT UNTIL I CAN FIX THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE IT IS HIGHLY UNSAFE TO DRIVE IN ITS CURRENT STATE. *TR

I WAS DRIVING MY 2001 FORD TAURUS ONTO A FREEWAY AND GOT UP TO 45 MPH AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AFTER I LIFTED MY FOOT OFF THE GAS. I ATTEMPTED TO PRESS ON THE BRAKE AS HARD AS I COULD AND THE CAR WAS STILL ACCELERATING. PRESSING THE BRAKE WOULD NOT MAKE THE CAR STOP. I WAS NOT USING CRUISE CONTROL. I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK, THE CAR WAS STILL REVVING UP, SO I TURNED THE CAR OFF. I WAITED A COUPLE OF MINUTES AND STARTED THE CAR AGAIN AND CONTINUED DRIVING AND THE CAR EXHIBITED THE SAME CONDITIONS AS BEFORE. I WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE FREEWAY AND WAS ABOUT TO GET TO AN INTERSECTION THAT HAD A STOP SIGN. I REALIZED THAT EVEN AFTER PRESSING DOWN ON THE BRAKES AS HARD AS I COULD, THE CAR WAS NOT GOING TO STOP SO I PROCEEDED TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE AGAIN AND QUICKLY PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURN THE CAR OFF. I LEFT THE CAR THERE AND WALKED TO THE NEAREST GAS STATION AND TOWED THE CAR HOME. I DID NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING ANYMORE AND IT IS A MIRACLE THAT I DID NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *TR

I HADN'T COME TO A COMPLETE STOP YET SO THE LAST FEW FEET WERE HARDER TO STOP, BUT LUCKILY THERE WASN'T ANY TRAFFIC IN FRONT OF ME AND I WASN'T IN ANY DANGER OF HITTING ANYONE/ANYTHING. I TRIED STARTING THE CAR UP AGAIN AND IT WENT RIGHT UP TO 4000K RPMS, I SHUT IT OFF AND THEN TRIED TO HIT THE GAS PEDAL THINKING THAT MAYBE IT WAS STUCK OR THERE WAS SOMETHING UNDER IT OR SOMETHING, BUT THAT WASN'T IT SO I SHUT THE CAR OFF AGAIN. I HAVE READ THE NEWS THIS WEEK ABOUT THE PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION INTO 2005-06 TAURUS SPEED CONTROL PROBLEMS AND IT IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS A VERY SCARY PROBLEM I EXPERIENCED LAST YEAR WITH MY 2001 TAURUS. A FORD DEALER REPLACED A CABLE FOR THE SPEED CONTROL ON THE CAR'S CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM. I STILL HAVE A COPY OF MY FORD INVOICE AND I KEPT THE BROKEN CABLE THAT WAS REPLACED ON MY CAR. I WAS DRIVING MY CAR DOWN A BOULEVARD WHEN THE ENGINE BEGAN TO RACE EVEN THOUGH I WAS NOT ACCELERATING. I HAD TO PRESS HARD ON MY BRAKES TO STOP FOR A RED LIGHT, AND PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, BUT THE ENGINE CONTINUE TO RACE AT ABOUT 4,000 RPMS. I TOOK THE CAR TO A CAR REPAIR SHOP (MEINEKE CAR CARE) AND THEY RAN THEIR ENGINE DIAGNOSTIC TESTS AND GOT A (ERROR CODE P0171 AND P0174) SYSTEM TOO LEAN BANK 1 AND 2. THERE WAS AIR LEAKS IN THE AIR HOSE ASSY, REPLACED AIR TUBE ASSY, PARTS (YF1Z6758A AND F6DZ6758A), AFTER THAT THE CAR RAN FINE (FOR ONE DAY). I HAD A PROBLEM ALSO WITH THE CAR ENGINE IDLE (ROUGH IDLE), CAR ENGINE WOULD STOP RUNNING AT A STOP LIGHT. (THE CAR ENGINE LIGHT WENT BACK ON AGAIN). I TOOK THE CAR TO A CAR REPAIR SHOP (PEPBOYS) AND THEY RAN CAR ENGINE DIAGNOSTIC CE SCAN AND GOT (ERROR CODE P0174 SYSTEM TOO LEAN B1 AND B2). THEY REPLACED PCV HOSE (ELBOW HOSE) THAT WAS LEAKING, (PART YF1Z6A664AB PCV HOSE, LF 0019.5800 PO 10332245.). AFTER THAT THE CAR ENGINE IS RUNNING GOOD (SO FAR). THIS MAY HELP IN LOCATING SOME OF THE PROBLEMS WITH CAR ENGINES TRYING TO GO FORWARD WHILE THE DRIVERS ARE APPLYING THE BRAKES. NEED BETTER AIR HOSES THAT WILL NOT LEAK.

THE CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH A CRUISE CONTROL, WHICH I RARELY USE. I WAS NOT USING IT AT THE TIME. I APPLIED THE BRAKES, BUT THE CAR HELD STEADY AT THE SAME SPEED. I DROVE APPROXIMATELY SIX MILES IN MODERATE TRAFFIC, DAMAGING THE BRAKES IN THE PROCESS, UNTIL I FOUND AN AREA WHERE I COULD SAFELY DRIVE OFF THE ROAD WITHOUT RISK TO MYSELF OR OTHERS. THEY REPAIRED THE DAMAGE DONE TO THE BRAKES BUT KEPT THE CAR FOR A WEEK AND STILL HAD SOME DIFFICULTY IN IDENTIFYING WHAT CAUSED THE ACCELERATION PROBLEM. THEY FINALLY SAID THAT IT HAD TO DO WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL AND DISCONNECTED IT. THE MANAGER OF THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THERE COMMENTED THAT THIS WAS NOT A PROBLEM HE'D ENCOUNTERED BEFORE. THEY ALSO FOUND THAT THE CAR IDLED AT AN UNACCEPTABLY HIGH RATE AND HAD SOME DIFFICULTY RESOLVING THAT PROBLEM. I PAID FOR THE REPAIRS AND HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE CAR FOR NEARLY TWO WEEKS. THERE IS STILL A PROBLEM WITH ACCELERATION IN THAT IT WILL HOLD A SPEED FOR NEARLY A HALF MILE OR SO, ALTHOUGH THE BRAKES WILL STOP IT. THE FACT THAT THE SERVICE PEOPLE AT THE DEALERSHIP WERE SO PERPLEXED BY THE PROBLEM AND WERE UNABLE TO FULLY ELIMINATE IT LEADS ME TO WONDER IF IT MIGHT NOT BE THE RESULT OF SOME KIND OF FACTORY DEFECT, ALTHOUGH I CAN'T FIND ANYTHING ABOUT A RECALL. OTHER INCIDENTS HAVE OCCURED WHILE REMOVING FOOT FROM ACCELARATOR AND COASTING. OBVIOUSLY IT IS NOT ALWAYS SAFE TO RESOLVE PROBLEM BY ACCELERATING, AND IS AN INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM.

BRAKE PEDAL AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL ARE TOO CLOSE TO EACH OTHER. I WAS COMING TO A STOP AND HAD MY WORK BOOTS ON, PUT MY FOOT ON I GUESS BOTH THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR, CAUSING ME TO BUMP THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. NO INJURIES, BUT NEVERLESS A JOLT.*AK

WAS PUT INTO AN EMERGENCY STOP SITUATION, WHEN I APPLIED BRAKES MY BRAKE PEDAL BENT IN HALF CAUSING MY FOOT TO COME OFF AND LAND ON THE GAS PEDAL. I SLAMED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECT, HAD THE BRAKES NOT FAILED I COULD OF CAME TO A STOP WITH CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. FORD WAS CONTACTED AND REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE INCIDENT AND MY INSURANCE COMPANY IS CURRENTLY IN LITAGATION WITH FORD OVER THE INCIDENT.

THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH ADJUSTABLE PEDALS. THE PEDALS ARE SO CLOSE TOGETHER THAT WHEN THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE ENGINE WOULD SURGE AS IF IT WANTED TO CONTINUE IN DRIVE AND NOT STOP. THE LAST INCIDENT THE VEHICLE SURGED TO THE POINT CONSUMER COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS STOPPED BY A FENCE. *JG

CONSUMER WAS BACKING OUT OF A GARAGE USING IDLE SPEED WITH FOOT ON BRAKE, WHEN VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED BACKWARD, CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL BY SHIFTING THE VEHICLE INTO DRIVE AND THEN INTO REVERSE, VEHICLE STRUCK SEVERAL ITEMS IN THE GARAGE CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE FRONT AND RIGHT FRONT DOOR, FORD STATED THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION WAS CAUSED BY A FLOOR MAT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE , HOWEVER CONSUMER DISAGREES. *SLC

VEHICLE EXPERIENCES SUDDEN ACCELERARTION WHEN ATTEMPTING TO SLOW OR STOP THE VEHICLE. *SLC
ON THREE OCCASIONS, ALTHOUGH I DIDN'T REALIZE IT AT THE TIME, WHILE BRAKING TO STOP, I WAS ALSO ACCELERATING CAUSING THE CAR TO LURCH FORWARD. THE HARDER A PRESSED ON THE BRAKE THE GREATER THE ACCELLERATION. AS I SAID, I HAD NO IDEA MY RIGHT FOOT WAS ON BOTH PEDALS AT THE SAME TIME. I HAD THE CAR TOWED BACK TO CLARKE FORD FOR THEIR INSPECTION. THEY PERFORMED THAT INSPECTION ON 8/21 AND REPORTED NO APPARENT PROBLEMS. I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT EVENING TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE. THE SALESMAN AND I TOOK A TEST DRIVE TO SEE IF I COULD REPLICATE WHAT I HAD EXPERIECED ON THE 19TH. COULDN'T DO IT SO I DROVE MY OTHER VEHICLE HOME AND THE SALESMAN FOLLOWED ME HOME IN THE NEW VEHICLE. THE SALESMAN DROVE ME BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AS HE PROCEDED INTO A PARKING SPACE HE BRAKED TO STOP THE CAR BUT AT THE SAME TIME THE CAR WANTED TO ACCELERATE JUST AS HAD HAPPENED TO ME ON THREE OCCASSIONS. THE STARTLED SALESMAN EXCLAIMED "IS THAT WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU" AND HE LOOKED DOWN AT HIS WHICH WAS ON BOTH THE BRAKE AND THE ACCELERATOR. MYSTERY SOLVED. THIS HAD NEVER HAPPENED WITH ANY OTHER VEHICLE I HAVE OWNED OR LEASED IN 43 YEARS OF DRIVING. I INSPECTED THE POSITION OF THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDALS IN MY OTHER TWO CARS AND A COUPLE OF CO-WORKERS CARS AND DISCOVERED THAT THE DISTANCES, BOTH DEPTH AND WIDTH, ON THE NEW TAURUS WERE MUCH CLOSER THAN THE OTHER VEHICLES. ON THE NEW TAURUS, I CAN DEPRESS THE BRAKE WITH MY HAND AND IT WILL DESEND TO A LEVEL LOWER THAN THE ACCELERATOR. I COULD NOT DO THIS IN THE OTHER VEHICLES, EVEN BY USING MY FOOT TO BRAKE. THE BRAKE PEDAL NEVER GOT TO THE LEVEL OF THE ACCELERATOR. I BELIEVE THE FORD NEW DESIGN, WHICH IS A POWER ADJUSTABLE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL BAR TO ACCOMODATE SHORT STATURED PEOPLE, COULD BE A DEFECT WHICH COULD CAUSE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS, SIMILAR TO THOSE THAT OCCURED IN THE JEEP A NUMBER OF YEARS AGO.
