TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTOR FELL OFF OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF FAILURE; HOWEVER NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,531. PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED AND IMMEDIATELY HAD EPISODES OF THE ACCELERATOR STICKING. HAPPENS ON NEARLY EVERY TRIP WITH THIS VEHICLE AND HAPPENS 4-5 TIME ON A 20 MILE TRIP. WORSE EPISODES OF STUCK ACCELERATOR WITH RAPID ACCELERATION AS IN FREEWAY ENTRANCE RAMPS. THE BRAKES CAN OVERRIDE THE STUCK ACCELERATOR, BUT IT IS FRIGHTENING WHEN IT HAPPENS IN TOWN. AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS OF DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE AND NOT FINDING A CAUSE, WE HAVE LEARNED TO STOP THE STICKING BY PUNCHING THE ACCELERATOR HARD ONCE OR TWICE AT A POINT IN THE ROAD WHERE MORE FORWARD ACCELERATION WILL NOT BE A SAFETY ISSUE. WE HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE SO MUCH AND ARE SO FAMILIAR WITH IT, I SOMETIMES USE IT AS A CRUISE CONTROL FEATURE WHILE ON THE FREEWAY, BUT IT IS NOT AS RELIABLE AND IS NOT AS STEADY AS THE TRUE SPEED CONTROL DEVICE. THIS ISSUE IS DANGEROUS FOR THE INEXPERIENCE DRIVER AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED QUICKLY. I AM AWARE OF A NATIONAL STUDY OF THIS VERY PROBLEM. PLEASE LET US KNOW THE OUTCOME. *TR

SUDDEN ACCELERATION PROBLEM WITH MY 2006 FORD TAURUS HAS STARTED AGAIN...I FIRST REPORTED THIS TO NHTSA ABOUT A MONTH AGO..THIS TIME AROUND, IT BEGINS INTERMITTENTLY ON START UP, AND SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING...THIS PROBLEM BEGAN WHEN MY CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING. AFTER TAKING A RIGHT TURN, THE VEHICLE BEGAN ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. I HAD TO FULLY APPLY THE BRAKE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL. IT WAS TERRIFYING. MY WHOLE BODY SHOOK. I THOUGHT I WOULD HIT SOMETHING BECAUSE I DID NOT THINK THAT I COULD STOP THE CAR. EVEN WHILE PUSHING THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY DOWN AND SHIFTING INTO D I COULD NOT KEEP THE CAR UNDER 40 MPH. THE ENGINE KEPT REVVING AND THE CAR KEPT GAINING SPEED. LUCKILY, THE ONLY LIGHT I HAD WAS GREEN. I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND SLOWED THE VEHICLE DOWN TO A STOP BY APPLYING ALL MY FORCE TO THE BRAKE. I SHIFTED INTO PARK HOPING THAT WOULD KEEP THE VEHICLE FROM MOVING. IT CAUSED A LOUD SOUND THAT SOUNDED LIKE AN EXPLOSION AND STARTLED EVERYONE IN THE PARKING LOT. STILL NOT SURE WHAT TO DO, I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF. A PARKING SPOT OPENED UP SO I TURNED ON THE IGNITION, THAT CAUSED AN EVEN LOUDER EXPLOSIVE SOUND. I WAS STILL TERRIFIED BUT I HAD TO ACT - SO I FORCED THE BRAKE PEDAL DOWN AS HARD AS I COULD AND SHIFTED TO D AND WAS ABLE TO NAVIGATE INTO THE PARKING SPOT. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AGAIN AND AGAIN IT CAUSED A LOUD EXPLOSIVE SOUND. BY NOW I WAS A SPECTACLE IN THE PARKING LOT BUT I WAS JUST THANKFUL THAT I WAS ALIVE AND THAT NO ONE WAS HURT. I LOOKED DOWN AT THE GAS PEDAL AND NOTICED THAT IT WAS FULLY DEPRESSED AND LOOSE. I PULLED THE PEDAL UP BUT THERE WAS NO TENSION TO HOLD IT UP AND IT DROPPED BACK ALL THE WAY DOWN. I DROVE THE VEHICLE BACK HOME, IN MUCH THE SAME WAY - TRANSMISSION IN D, APPLYING A LOT OF FORCE TO THE BRAKE AND HOPING THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE TO STOP SUDDENLY OR GET PULLED OVER FOR SPEEDING SINCE I COULD NOT GET THE VEHICLE SLOWER THAN 40 MPH EVEN WHILE PUSHING ON THE BRAKE AS HARD AS I COULD THE WHOLE TRIP. AND WHEN I PARKED THE CAR AT HOME, IT MADE THE SAME LOUD SOUND AND I ALSO HEARD TICKING NOISES COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I AM STILL SHAKEN UP BY THE INCIDENT.

WHILE DRIVING THE CAR LOSES POWER AND YOU HAVE TO COAST TO A SAFE PLACE TO STOP. AFTER A FEW MINUTES IT STARTS BACK UP AND RUNS FINE. THIS HAS HAPPENED 6 TIMES. 2 DEALERSHIPS, 2 REPLACED FUEL PUMPS AND MODULES, 1 REPLACED PROCESSOR AND BATTERY LATER ITS STILL DOING THE SAME THING! NOW THE FORD DEALERSHIP SAYS THEY CAN'T GO ANYFURTHER WITH THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I AM GUESSING THE HUNDREDS OF OTHER 2006 TAURUS DRIVERS WHO HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM WASN'T ENOUGH FOR FORD TO DO A RECALL. BUT I AM TELLING YOU IF MY HUSBAND WHO DRIVES THE VEHICLE DIES BECAUSE OF THIS FORD WILL HAVE BIGGER PROBLEMS BECAUSE I WILL SUE! *TR

IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO STALL SPORADICALLY AND WITHOUT WARNING, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AND THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD CONTINUOUSLY DEACTIVATE. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 117,340.

I HAVE A 2006 FORD TAURUS AND WITHIN THE PAST COUPLE OF MONTHS IT WILL DIE WHILE SITTING AT A REDLIGHT. I HAVE TO TURN OFF THE IGNITION AND RESTART THE CAR AND THAT USUALLY SOLVES THE PROBLEM. THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 6 TIMES IN THE PAST 2 MONTHS. TODAY, HOWEVER, IT STALLED AT A REDLIGHT AND I RESTARTED BUT AS I CONTINUED DRIVING, THE RPM WOULD DROP RAPIDLY WHEN I HIT THE BREAKS AND IT ACTED LIKE IT WOULD DIE. I CONTINUED DRIVING AND WAS GOING ABOUT 45 MILES AN HOUR AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN ALL THE ODOMETERS DROPPED TO ZERO AND EVERYTHING ON THE DASHBOARD WENT OUT. I PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL AND THEN EVERYTHING CAME BACK ON. VERY STRANGE AND NOW I'M WORRIED THE CAR MIGHT DIE WHEN I'M ACTUALLY DRIVING AND NOT SITTING AT A REDLIGHT. *KB

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING, THE LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FLASHED AND ALL POWER IN THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF SUDDENLY. THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF AT LEAST FOUR TIMES. SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE WOULD RESTART AND OTHER TIMES IT HAD TO BE TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE A FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED; THE DEALERS WERE UNABLE TO FIND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM OR TO PROVIDE A REMEDY; THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS UNABLE TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 65,000.

2006 FORD TAURUS SHUTS OFF AT STOP LIGHTS AND HAS ROUGH IDLE. IT ALSO LURCHES FORWARD REPEATEDLY WHILE THE BRAKE PEDDLE IS APPLIED AT INTERSECTION. AS IF IT IS REVVING TRYING NOT TO DIE. IT IS WORSE WHEN IT HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR A WHILE OR UNDER ADDED LOAD OF A/C. THIS IS DANGEROUS AS MY WIFE AND KIDS ARE IN A CAR THAT CREEPS INTO INTERSECTION OR DIES ALL TOGETHER CAUSING THEM TO BE STUCK AT AN INTERSECTION WITH CARS APPROACHING BEHIND THEM BECAUSE THEY NOW HAVE A GREEN LIGHT. IT STARTS BACK UP AND THEY ARE ABLE TO DRIVE OFF BUT THIS KEEPS HAPPENING. THE CAR HAS NO CODES OF INDICATION OF A PROBLEMS AFTERWARDS OTHER THAN ROUGH IDLING. *TR

FORD MOTOR COMPANY 2006 FORD TAURUS SE 3.0 LITRE ENGINE. THE LOCATION OF THE OIL FILTER IS DIRECTLY ABOVE THE STARTER AND STARTER SOLENOID ASSEMBLY. THIS VERY POOR DESIGN CAN LEAD TO THE FAILURE AND POSSIBLE FIRE IN THIS VEHICLE. I ASKED FORD'S OWN AUTHORIZED SERVICERS IN THE DENVER MARKET AND THEY AGREED TO THIS AS A FACT. YET, AS AN OWNER OF SAID MODEL-THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING TO INFORM THE PUBLIC OR RECALL OR REMEDY THIS. PLEASE CHECK INTO THIS AS I BELIEVE IT IS A VERY COMMON DESIGN FAILURE AND POTENTIALLY VERY PROBLEMATIC. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE USED VEHICLE, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS RESET. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ONCE MORE AND THE DEALER DISENGAGED THE CHECK ENGINE FUSE. THE DEALER ALSO RECOMMENDED REPLACING TWO SPARK PLUGS THAT WERE CONTAMINATED BY WATER. THE CONTACT DECLINED, SHE WANTED TO HAVE A PROPER DIAGNOSTIC TEST PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE BUT THE DEALER WOULD NOT ALLOW IT. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT IF THERE WAS AN ENGINE FAILURE IN THE FUTURE, SHE WOULD NOT RECEIVE ANY WARNING DUE TO THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT FUSE BEING DEACTIVATED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 69,000 AND THE CURRENT WAS UNKNOWN.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD TAURUS. WHILE STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN, THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED TO 40 MPH. THE CONTACT AUTOMATICALLY SLAMMED ON HER BRAKES AND AVOIDED CRASHING INTO ANY OTHER VEHICLES. SHE MERGED ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND REMOVED HER FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH MAXIMUM FORCE IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO SLOW DOWN. AS A RESULT, THE ENGINE REVVED AND THE VEHICLE FINALLY BEGAN TO DECELERATE. SHE MANAGED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME AND PLACED THE GEAR INTO PARK. THE ENGINE REVVED FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES BEFORE GRADUALLY STOPPING. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED. THE CONTACT CALLED NUMEROUS DEALERS AND SHE FEELS THAT SHE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 50,000.

I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS INSTANCES WHERE THE CAR DOES NOT" ROLL OVER" OR START. THE LATEST PROBLEM OCCURRED ON 11/10/06. I WAS MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN AT A BUSY INTERSECTION GOING APPROXIMATELY 30 MILES PER HOUR WHEN THE CAR JUST DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. LUCKILY, NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED BUT THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN INJURY OR EVEN WORSE. *JB
