THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE STEERING COLUMN, AND RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000.

ALL FUSES ARE INTACT--THERE IS NO APPARENT REASON FOR THIS TO OCCUR.

WHILE DRIVING ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET AT A SLOW SPEED, THE POWER STEERING QUIT WORKING. THERE WAS A FAULT INDICATION ON THE DASH BOARD. FORTUNATELY I WAS ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET DRIVING AT LESS THEN 10 MILES PER HOUR. THE CAR WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER WITH THE THE POWER STEERING FAULT. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO COME TO A SAFE STOP. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED IT. THE FAULT CLEARED AND THE POWER STEERING WAS FUNCTIONING AGAIN. I TOOK MY CAR INTO MY MECHANIC FOR INVESTIGATION IMMEDIATELY. THIS 2010 FORD TAURUS SHO HAS ONLY 105000 MILES ON IT. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE HAD IT HAPPENED AT HIGHER SPEEDS OR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. I SEE THAT THE 2011-2014 FORD TAURUS' HAD A RECALL FOR THIS SAME POWER STEERING ISSUE.

ON A ROAD TRIP, WE STOPPED AT A REST STOP. WHEN WE WENT BACK TO THE CAR AND RESTARTED IT, WITHIN SECONDS THE POWER STEERING FAULT ALERT WAS PRESENTED, AND POWER STEERING WAS GONE. AFTER ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE AROUND THE PARKING LOT THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON AND WE REALIZED WE COULD NOT MAKE THE 80 MILE DRIVE HOME. THIS RESULTED IN A $500 TOW THAT WHEN WE DROPPED THE CAR THE POWER STEERING WAS WORKING FINE AND THE ALERT WAS GONE. A PROBLEMATIC RACK HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED BY A TRUSTED MECHANIC WITH AN EXPECTED BILL OF OVER $2000 FOR SOMETHING THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED. SEEMS EXACTLY LIKE THE RECALL FOR THE 2011-2013 MODELS AND CLEAR NEGLIGENCE ON FORD'S PART AND NHTSA FOR NOT INCLUDING ALL MODELS WITH THIS PROBLEMATIC PART.

ON AUGUST 21, 2019 I STARTED MY 2010 FORD TAURUS SHO AND PROCEEDED TO PULL OUT INTO THE STREET AND FOUND THAT I WAS UNABLE TO TURN MY STEERING WHEEL IN EITHER DIRECTION. I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED VEHICLE TO FIND THAT AN ALARM OR BEEPING SOUNDED AND ON THE CLUSTER MESSAGE BOARD A FAULT READ "POWER ASSIST STEERING FAULT" AND WAS AGAIN BARELY WITH BOTH HANDS FORCEFULLY ABLE TURN STEERING WHEEL EITHER WAY LEFT TO RIGHT. I WAS ONLY TWO BLOCKS LUCKILY FROM MY HOME AND MAN HANDLED THE STEERING TO MY GARAGE. AFTER A QUICK SEARCH I SEE THAT FORD ALONG WITH THE NHTSA FAILED TO INCLUDE FORD MODELS FROM 2008-2010 IN A RECALL FOR FAILING ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLIES THAT WAS ISSUED FOR 2011 AND UP MODELS. THESE PRE 2011 MODELS CONTAIN THE SAME EXACT PARTS AS WHAT IS IN THIS RECALL. THE PARTS COST IS NEARLY $1100 AND UPWARDS OF $1000 FOR LABOR. THIS NEGLIGENCE BY BOTH PARTIES HAS RAISED THE INJURY OR DEATH FACTOR TEN FOLD FOR EVERY ECOBOOST OWNER ALONG WITH THE ENTIRE POPULATION AS THESE CARS ARE GETTING OLDER OUT ON OUR STREETS. IF THIS FAULT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED THE PREVIOUS DAY AS I TRAVELED FOR OVER 3 HOURS ON THE INTERSTATE OR MAKING MY WAY AROUND A CURVE OR ANY TURN I MAY NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO TYPE THIS COMPLAINT. JUST GOOGLE THIS DEFECT AND TO NO SURPRISE I'M NOT THE ONLY VICTIM OF THIS KNOWN PROBLEM. MANY HAVE HAD ACCIDENTS RELATED TO THIS SUDDEN PART FAILURE OR NEAR MISSED. MANY VICTIMS HAVE TRIED TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE WITH FORD AND THE NHTSA TO RECEIVE NO ASSISTANCE REGARDING THIS ISSUE. WHY IS THAT. THIS PROBLEM IS NOT GOING TO DISAPPEAR BUT ONLY GET WORSE AS THE CONTROL MODULE MOUNTED ON THE RACK AND PINION IS SUBJECTED TO EXTREME HEAT FROM THE TURBOS AND CATALYTIC CONVERTERS THAT WAS ENGINEERED DUE TO A LACK OF SPACE INSIDE THE ENGINE BAY AREA AND WERE MOUNTED WITH IN 3 INCHES AWAY FROM THIS ELECTRONIC RACK AND PINION COMPONENT. HELP!!!

AS MANY OF 2011 FORD MODELS HAD THE SAME ISSUE AND THERE WAS A HUGE RECALL DUE TO THE SAME POWER STEERING FAULT ASSIST PROBLEM. THE 2010 MODEL IS USING THE SAME PARTS AS 2011 MODEL BUT THE 2010 MODELS IS NOT LISTED UNDER THE RECALL. I CONTACTED FORD ABOUT THIS ISSUE ONLY TO GET MY CONVERSATION DISCONNECTED MIDWAY BY THE REPRESENTATIVE. I CALLED AGAIN TO EXPLAIN THE SITUATION BUT AGAIN I GOT DISCONNECTED RUDELY. THIS IS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND I HAVE BEEN A FORD CUSTOMER FOR YEARS. THERE WAS NO FORM OF COMPENSATION FROM FORD AND IT COST ME 2200 USD TO GET IT FIXED OUT OF POCKET.

SINCE MY PARTICULAR MODEL, SHO IS THE ONLY VEHICLE IN THE TAURUS THAT INCORPORATES THIS SYSTEM IT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL THIS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF THIS OCCURRING. IT IS THE SECOND OCCURRENCE WITH 2011 AND UP RECALLS THAT HAS HAPPENED TO MY SHO AND NEVER INFORMED.

THIS IS A REALLY SERIOUS PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED ASAP BEFORE ANYONE GETS HURT .

THIS IS THE INFAMOUS ELECTRONIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM (EPAS) ON MANY RECENT FORDS THAT ARE FAILING LEFT AND RIGHT. THE SYSTEM REPLACEMENT PART IS ABOUT $1,300 (THE WHOLE THING NEW, AS IT CAN NOT BE REPAIRED) + $700 LABOR = A $2,000+ REPAIR. FORD HAS DECIDED TO RECALL SOME VEHICLES (2011 AND NEWER) BUT OTHERS NOT (2010 OR EARLIER), LEAVING OWNERS LIKE MYSELF STRANDED, AS THESE EPAS USUALLY FAIL AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES. I OWN A 2010 TAURUS SHO, ON THESE PARTICULAR 2010 AND EARLIER SYSTEMS, WHICH APPEAR TO BE AN EARLIER GENERATION, WHEN THE EPAS FAILS, STEERING BECOMES HARD AS A ROCK, YOU SIMPLY CAN NOT DRIVE THE CAR. THIS IS VERY CONCERNING IF IT HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING. 02/09/2016. I WAS STATIONARY AT A STOP LIGHT. I LOST ALL ELECTRICAL POWER.I LOST ALL POWER STEERING FUNCTIONS. THE DASHBOARD MESSAGE SAID TO PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN PARK. THESE INSTRUCTIONS WOULD HAVE IMMEDIATELY DAMAGED THE TRANSMISSION. YOU CAN RESTART THE PUSH BUTTON START IN NEUTRAL ONLY BY USING THE BRAKE PEDAL FIRST. HAD I BEEN IN ANY TYPE OF TRAFFIC, A REAR END COLLISION COULD HAVE OCCURRED. THE CAR WAS INSPECTED AT A FORD DEALER TODAY ( 02/11/2016). THE REMEDY WAS TO CHANGE A RFA MODULE RELATED TO THE KEY FOBS. THE THEORY IS THIS : NO KEY RECOGNITION MEANS THE COMPUTER IS TELLING THE CAR TO SHUT DOWN. THE FORD DEALER CAN'T EXPLAIN WHILE THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT : ( I DRIVE WITH THE SAME KEY FOBS AT ALL TIMES). THIS IS PROBABLY NOT THE SOLUTION. THIS IS THE SECOND REPORT FILED ON THE SAME VEHICLE. THE DATE OF LAST REPORT WAS 07/31/2011. NHTSA ID NUMBER 10416408. THE SOLUTION LAST TIME WAS REPLACEMENT OF THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. TWO DAYS BEFORE THE INCIDENT, THE STEERING ON THE CAR STARTED MAKING A NOISE WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS BEING TURNED, SIMILAR TO SOMETHING RUBBING. WE VISUALLY CHECKED AND SAW NOTHING HUNG UP UNDER THE CAR. THE SYSTEM ON THIS CAR IS AN ELECTRIC POWER STEERING, SO THERE WAS NO FLUID TO CHECK EITHER. OTHER THAN THE NOISE, THE STEERING SEEMED NORMAL EXCEPT FOR WITH THE STEERING WHEEL CENTERED, THERE FELT LIKE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS IN A SMALL DETENT. IT WOULD TAKE JUST A LITTLE EXTRA AMOUNT OF PRESSURE INITIALLY TO TURN THE WHEEL. HOWEVER ON THE 6TH, I WENT TO BACK THE CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN, LITERALLY NOT TURN WITH ME PULLING AS HARD AS I COULD. AFTER ABOUT A MINUTE OF NO LUCK, I PULLED THE CAR STRAIGHT BACK INTO THE GARAGE. AT THIS POINT THE STEERING STARTED WORKING SOMEWHAT, I WOULD TURN THE STEERING WHEEL FOR WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A HARD TURN AND THE TIRE WAS ONLY MOVING, MAYBE A 1/6TH OF A "NORMAL". AFTER ANOTHER MINUTE OR SO, IT STARTED ACTING LIKE IT DID INITIALLY, NORMAL TURN WITH THE NOISE. IF THE NO TURN OR 1/6ISH OF A TURN INCIDENTS WHAT HAVE OCCURRED ON A ROAD, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN AND ACCIDENT, UNQUESTIONABLY. THERE WERE 4 ADULTS WHO ALL WITNESSED THIS INCIDENT. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALER ON THE 8TH. I CONTACTED FORD AND THE RESPONSE WAS PRETTY MUCH PARTS BREAK, PAY TO FIX IT. *TR
