The contact owns a 2015 Ford Transit. The contact stated that water had leaked through the windshield and into the air filter compartment, onto several wires for different electrical systems in the vehicle, and onto emissions components, which affected the engine timing. The contact stated that while inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that there was approximately 2-inches of water in the air filter box. The check engine warning light was illuminated, with diagnostic trouble codes indicating that the Oxygen sensors had failed, and the timing was not being converted correctly. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic, who diagnosed that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired by the mechanic. The contact replaced the catalytic converter and placed a seal around the windshield. The manufacturer was informed of the failure, and it was confirmed that the VIN was not included in a recall related to the failure. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

The Van looses all power. This has happened 4 times. The display will appear brake boost failure or engine failure. We were driving on the 60 fwy in the number one lane when this happened last. My husband was able maneuver to shoulder without causing an accident.

While driving van displayed "engine fault service now" and lost all power in the middle of the road. I was able to pull over turn it off and back on and is running. This is happened to nearly our whole fleet of Ford Transits. I have put in a claim with Ford, as this is an extremely dangerous safety issue. It is causing my employees to feel like we are providing unsafe transportation, it is causing lost revenue due to vehicles being out of service and it is a potential insurance claim/workers comp issue. Ford needs to take action.

While driving on the highway, acceleration shuts down and I lose the ability to control speed. I had to coast to the side of the road even though the engine was still running and I was rear-ended. After I shut off the vehicle, it turned on and returned to normal operation. This has happened multiple times. The throttle body was replaced in 2021 at 117,444 miles and is having this issue again now. I have a fleet of Transit vehicles and this has happened on 4 transits from 2015-2018 a total of 6 times now. This is an ongoing issue that Ford needs to address.

This claim is to report that when I received the letter from Ford with the recall, I tried to book an appointment for said recall, which is impossible because they are giving them for 6 to 8 months. After trying several days, I got one in palmeto Ford, unfortunately the car failed exactly as the recall said and the transmission broke, affecting the brakes as well, which almost caused an accident in turpike, after this I left it at Ford transit at (16800 nw 57 Av, 33015) where to date they do not give me reason, I have gone 5 times and they have not received an answer, the vehicle is a work vehicle and it is the livelihood of my family, please, if in any way it can be managed, it can be fixed as soon as possible, thanks

The 2015 Ford Transit was designed such that rainwater from the windshield drains into the engine and sometimes floods the air filter system. This issue is documented in this NTSA TSB where it's stated: To resolve this condition, install updated water management hardware and/or a revised air cleaner cover. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10156525-0001.pdf We were driving along an interstate and were on a long viaduct while it was raining. The engine stalled and we were lucky enough that the vehicle was able to reach the end of the viaduct. I had my spouse and 7 children in the van. We received a tow but myself and 2 children were forced to walk along the interstate as the tow couldn't hold all of us. As this is a large passenger van, it's my opinion as a licensed professional engineer that it poses an substantial fatality risk to occupants because the likelihood of fatalities on interstates is tremendous due to traveling speed. Ford designed a windshield that puts water into the air system which creates a known safety and 100% preventable condition. This should be a factory safety recall repaired in all Ford Transits. Most of these vans are used by government agencies for employee or prison transport or by church/community service groups and has a high percentage of mass casualty or PDO when the system fails. There are multiple YouTube and Ford Transit auto forums highlighting this safety design flaw so it is a well known and attributable problem created by substandard Ford engineering.

FOLLOW-UP TO PRIOR PROBLEM REPORT ON THIS VIN. AFTER 24 HRS WITH BATTERY DISCONNECTED, I RECONNECTED BATTERY. PRIOR PROBLEM DID NOT REPRODUCE AND VEHICLE APPEARED TO POWER-UP NORMALLY. I USED THE KEY TO SUCCESSFULLY START AND RUN THE ENGINE. BUT THERE WERE NO INSTRUMENT READINGS, TACHOMETER READ ZERO. I MOVED THE KEY BACK TO THE OFF POSITION, BUT THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN. THE ONLY WAY TO KILL THE ENGINE WAS TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY CABLE. THAT MEANS THE DEFECTIVE MODULE IS NOT FAILING SAFE.

A CONTROL MODULE BEGAN MALFUNCTIONING BY FIRST CAUSING THE HEADLIGHTS TO COME ON SPONTANEOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED (AT HOME), HEADLIGHT SWITCH OFF, NO KEY IN IGNITION. AFTER REMOVING THE BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE, ANY ATTEMPT TO RECONNECT THE BATTERY CAUSES THE STARTER MOTOR TO SPONTANEOUSLY ENERGIZE AND THE ENGINE TO START RUNNING, AGAIN WITH NO KEY IN THE IGNITION. I AM ABLE TO ALWAYS REPRODUCE THIS MALFUNCTION. I IMMEDIATELY DISCONNECT THE BATTERY EACH TIME, AS I CONSIDER THIS MALFUNCTION TO BE POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS, AND I CANNOT PREDICT WHAT FURTHER MALFUNCTION MIGHT ENSUE. I ACQUIRED THIS VEHICLE USED ~12 MONTHS AGO, AND IT HAS RUN NORMALLY UNTIL NOW. CURRENT MILEAGE ~81,700. THERE HAVE BEEN NO MODIFICATIONS TO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM.

TOOK IT INTO A FORD DEALERSHIP FOR A DRIVESHAFT RECALL AND OIL CHANGE ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT WATER GOT INTO THE HOUSING FOR THE AIR FILTER AND SOAKED THE FILTER. THE WATER THEN MADE IT'S WAY THROUGHOUT THE ENGINE. AFTER, I THEN LEARNED OF FORD ISSUING A TSB THAT WOULD HAVE SAVED MY VAN SHOULD IT OF BEEN A RECALL OR CHECKED BY MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP WHEN I HAD PREVIOUS WORK COMPLETED.

THIS VEHICLE , A 2015 FORD TRANSIT 150 IS SUPPOSED TO CIRCULATE TRANSMISSION FLUID COMING FROM TRANSMISSION AND COOLANT FROM THE RADIATOR AT THE SAME TIME. COOLANT CIRCULATION IS SUPPOSED TO COOL TRANSMISSION FLUID WITHOUT BEING MIXED. WHEN THE SERVICE IS COMPROMISED AND MIXES TOGETHER, IT WILL CONTAMINATE BOTH FLUIDS-COOLANT IN THE TRANSMISSION.TRANSMISSION FLUID,COOLING SYSTEM(RADIATOR AND THERMOSTAT). COOLANT FROM THE RADIATOR WILL T TO WATER PUMP AND COOL OFF AND ENGINE -OVERHEATING PROCESS AND ENGINE CHANGE. THE VEHICLE STALLED UPON BACKING OUT OF A STEEP DRIVEWAY & TURNING TO THE LEFT. IT WOULD NOT RESTART. THE VAN HAD BEEN PARKED, AT A CUSTOMERS' HOME ALL DAY. HEAVY SNOW BEGAN FALLING A COUPLE OF HOURS BEFORE THE VAN WAS STARTED & WARMED UP TO MELT THE SNOW FROM THE WINDSHIELD. WHEN THE VAN STALLED, IT WAS BROADSIDE TO THE STREET, BLOCKING BOTH OPPOSING LANES OF TRAVEL AS THE HEAVY SNOW INCREASED IN INTENSITY. THE VAN WAS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO PUSH OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, DUE TO THE QUICKLY ACCUMULATING SNOW, INITIALLY PREVENTING A PLOW & POLICE CRUISER FROM PASSING. AAA TOWING WAS CALLED BUT, DID NOT ARRIVE UNTIL 2 HOURS AFTER BEING SUMMONSED AS THE SNOW CONTINUED TO ACCUMMULATE. I HAD THE VAN TOWED TO OUR BUSINESS LOCATION AND DECIDED TO CHECK THE ENGINE AIR FILTER. WHEN I OPENED THE FILTER HOUSING, IT AND THE AIR FITER WERE WATER-SOAKED. I OBSERVED WATER RUNNING DOWN THE WINDSHIELD, DOWN ALONG THE FIREWALL AND ONTO/INTO THE AIR FILTER BOX. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL FORD DEALER (FORD OF WILBRAHAM, MA, TEL.: 413-543-2800) TO REPORT MY FINDINGS & TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE SOLUTION WAS PERFORMED AS PER TSB (TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN) #19-2091 AND AT A COST OF $488.45 (INVOICE #659506), WHICH I RELUCTANTLY PAID TO THE DEALER. I EXPLAINED THAT THIS A POOR DESIGN ALLOWING WATER TO RUN DIRECTLY INTO THE AIR FILTER BOX, WHICH, IN TURN, SHUTS DOWN THE ENGINE & RENDERS THE VEHICLE MOTIONLESS & CAN BE DANGEROUS, DEPENDING UPON WHERE & WHEN THE VEHICLES' ENGINE STALLS & THEN FAILS TO RESTART. THE SERVICE WRITER SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING SHE COULD DO TO HELP ME & THAT I AM STILL RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF THE TSB. IN ADDITION, MY INVOICE INDICATES THAT RECALL #19S38 WAS PERFORMED, YET IT IS STILL OUTSTANDING ON THE RECALL WEBSITE UNDER MY VEHICLES' VIN. FOR THE RECORD, THIS VAN HAD ONLY 31,853 MILES ON IT, WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN FOR THIS PROBLEM.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR INTAKE WAS MOUNTED ON THE VEHICLE IN A WAY THAT ALLOWED WATER TO GET INSIDE AND RUST OUT THE BOLTS THAT SECURED THE AIR INTAKE IN PLACE. AS A RESULT, ANTI-FREEZE WOULD LEAK AND POSSIBLY CAUSE A FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS LOSING ANTI-FREEZE AND THE TOP OF THE ENGINE WAS SMOKING WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THE BOLTS HAD COMPLETELY RUSTED AND THE WATER FROZE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. WHEN THE ICE MELTED AND THE ENGINE WARMED UP FROM DRIVING, A FIRE NEARLY OCCURRED. THE CONTACT SAW SMOKE, PULLED OVER, AND OPENED THE HOOD. THE CONTACT HAD TO CALL TO HAVE MORE ANTI-FREEZE DELIVERED TO REFILL THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO GARNET FORD (1610 WILMINGTON PIKE, WEST CHESTER, PA 19382 (610) 358-5600) WHERE IT WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CALLED AND TRANSFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 122,000.

IT APPEARS THAT THIS MODEL HAS AN ENGINE FAILURE ISSUE RELATED TO WATER ENTERING THE AIR BOX AND CAUSING THE WATER TO TRAVEL TO COMPONENTS THAT DISABLES THE CAR. I WAS DRIVING IN THE RAIN AND GOT STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND HEAVY RAIN ON I40 IN KNOXVILLE TN FOR AN HOUR WAITING FOR A TOW TRUCK TO GET ME OUT OF A DANGEROUS SITUATION. HAD IT TOWED TO A DEALER THAT PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THE NEXT DAY THAT THERE WAS A TSB ON THIS ISSUE AND THAT THERE WAS A KIT THAT REMEDIES THE PROBLEM. A DEFLECTOR OF SOME SORT TO KEEP WATER OUT OF THE AIR BOX. THE COST TO THE CONSUMER IS OVER $750 TO GET IT DONE. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT IS FORD KNOWS ABOUT ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND HAS COME UP WITH A SOLUTION, IT SHOULD BE A RECALL AND NOT JUST A TSB. THEIR POOR DESIGN AND NEGLIGENCE PUT ME IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR ABOUT AN HOUR . I COULD HAVE BEEN RAMMED BY HIGHWAY TRAVELERS AND POSSIBLY KILLED BECAUSE MY VEHICLE WAS DISABLED BECAUSE OF A POOR DESIGN THAT FORD REFUSES TO REPAIR AT THEIR COST. SOMEONE PLEASE ADVISE FORD AND THEIR DEALERS THAT THIS IS NOT A CONVENIENCE ISSUE, BUT A LIFE THREATENING ISSUE THAT FORD SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL TO REMEDY THE POOR DESIGN AT THEIR COST. THANK YOU.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO BLAKE UTTER FORD (LOCATED AT 215 HWY 75 NORTH, DENISON, TX 75020, 903-465-5671) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE PCM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THE DEALER WAS STILL LOOKING TO SEE IF ANY OTHER FAILURES COULD BE PRESENT WITH THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE ROADWAY. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED, IT RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. BARBEE'S FREEWAY FORD (4471 EAST EVANS AVENUE, DENVER, CO, (303) 584-6600) WAS CALLED, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE RANDOMLY DEVELOPED HESITATION TO START ONE DAY AS IF IT WASN'T GETTING ENOUGH FUEL OR AIR. IT DID START AND I DROVE HOME FROM WORK. I PLANNED TO TAKE IT TO A DEALERSHIP TO GET IT CHECKED OUT BUT THE NEXT DAY BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. I ATTEMPTED TO JUMP-START BUT THE BATTERY WAS AT FULL VOLTAGE. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY DIAGNOSED THE CAR. I WAS INFORMED THE NEXT DAY BY THE TECHNICIAN THAT THERE WAS A TSB ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY WAS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND THAT IT WOULD COST ME $850 PLUS TAX. APPARENTLY THE CABIN AIR FILTER IS NOT PROPERLY WEATHER SEALED AND UNDER NORMAL USE WATER WILL MAKE ITS WAY INTO THE FILTER, AND INTO THE MASS AIR SENSOR. FORD HAS MADE NEW REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR THIS ISSUE BUT BECAUSE I AM OUT OF WARRANTY BY A FEW MONTHS, I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE ENTIRETY OF THE BILL. HAD THE PART GIVEN OUT WHILE DRIVING (ESPECIALLY AT HIGH SPEEDS) THE ENGINE WOULD SEIZE AND COULD HAVE LIKELY CAUSED A CRASH.

REPAIR ESTIMATE WAS $2,300.00 DOLLARS AND NOW I AM LOOKING AT A $9,000.00 DOLLAR REPAIR BILL.

I TRADED CARS WITH MY WIFE SO SHE COULD TAKE OUR 6 KIDS HOME. TOWED THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALERSHIP WHO DIAGNOSED A FAULTY FUEL PUMP CONTROL MODULE. SAID THIS HAPPENS A LOT. SEVERAL OTHER FORD VEHICLES HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS REASON BUT NOT THE 2015 TRANSIT.

I WAS AT A RED LIGHT WHEN MY CAR ALL OF A SUDDEN STARTED TO OVERHEAT, THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 64K MILES ON IT. HAVE KEPT UP WITH MAINTENANCE AND ALL OF THAT. TURNS OUT THE WATER PUMP IS BAD AND WAS LEAKING REALLY BAD. NOT SURE WHY THIS HAPPENED 3 YEAR OLD FORD VAN.

THE VINS ARE: [XXX] BROKEN IN JAN/FEB 2017 WITH LESS THAN 4500KM; [XXX] BROKEN IN MARCH 2017 WITH LESS THAN 5200KM ; [XXX] BROKEN IN AUGUST 2017 WITH LESS THAN 3000KM ; [XXX] BROKEN IN NOVEMBER 2017 WITH LESS THAN 4600KM.
