The contact owns a 2000 Ford Windstar. The contact stated the vehicle failed to start, and the rear glass was out of the frame by about three-quarters of an inch. Additionally, the front driver's and passenger’s side windows failed to go up or roll down and were inoperable. The contact also stated that the instrument panel and anti-theft system were inoperable. The service engine, anti-theft, overdrive, speedometer, ABS system, and door ajar warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 00V351000 (Electrical System) and 00V020000 (Visibility). The contact called the dealer and was referred to the manufacturer for assistance. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and confirmed there were no associated recalls with the VIN and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.

GOING DOWN THE ROAD TRACTION CONTROL WILL GO OFF AND ON . IT WILL MAKE THE STEERING VERY HARD. THEN WHEN YOU TURN THE ENGINE OFF. IT IS VERY HARD TO START UP . SOME TIMES YOU HAVE TO WAIT FOR ABOUT TWO OR THREE HOURS THEN IT WILL START RIGHT UP. THE ELECTRIC SYSTEM IS VERY BAD. SOMETIMES WHEN THE TRACTION CONTROL STARTS TO HAVE A PROBLEM THE VAN IS VERY HARD TO EVEN KEEP IT IN CONTROL I'M DISABLED AND CAN'T AFFORD TO GET A BETTER VAN. I'VE TRIED TO TAKE IT BACK TO FORD BUT THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH IT. ALL THEY TALE ME IS TO GET ANEW ONE .BUT I CAN'T. MY FORD WINDSTAR HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE ABS FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS. IT TURNS ON AND OFF ON THE DASHBOARD RANDOMLY. WHEN THE ABS LIGHT IS ON, THE ABS IS NOT WORKING. WHEN THE ABS LIGHT IS OFF, THE ABS IS WORKING. I HAD MY MECHANIC FIX THIS FOR $850. THREE WEEKS LATER, THE NEW PART STARTED DOING THE SAME THING. I NEVER KNOW HOW TO BRAKE IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION BECAUSE THE ABS IS ON SOME OF THE TIME AND OFF SOME OF THE TIME.

ON FRIDAY, JUNE 23RD, THE 2000 FORD WINDSTAR WAS PARKED IN THE LOT OF MEIJERS AT 8650 WEST GRAND RIVER AVE, BRIGHTON, MI 48116 FOR APPROXIMATELY A DURATION OF 40 MINUTES. UPON RETURNING TO THE VEHICLE, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS FIRE FROM INSIDE MY VAN THAT APPEARED. BY STANDARDS CONTACTED 911 AND FIRE DEPT AND POLICE HAD RESPONDED. THE FIRE WAS DISTINGUISHED AND REPORTS WERE MADE OUT. THE FIRE INSPECTOR INDICATED THAT IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL SHORT THAT WAS THE ACCELERATE IGNITION POINT. I OWN 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE PAINT IS FLANKING OFF THE ROOF REALLY BAD IT HAS SOME SPOTS RUSTED AND SOME IS GRAY EVEN IN THE BACK AND FRONT. I JUST REPLACED THE HOOD FROM A JUNK YARD. MY SPEEDOMETER KEEPS GOING CRAZY AND WHEN TRYING TO GET OUT OF PARK THE PARK AND REVERS PART BROKE BECAUSE IT GOT STUCK WITH THE RPM AND THAT BROKE TOO. I HAVE TO KEEP THE FUSE UNPLUGGED THAT GOES TO THE INTERIOR LIGHTING DO TO BATTERY DEAD BY THE NEXT DAY.

REPLACED INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER AND HAD TO BUY A NEW KEY(ONLY HAD ONCE KEY FROM PREVIOUS OWNER) AND REPROGRAM BOTH KEYS TO NEW ANTI-THEFT DEVICE BUILT INTO SAID INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER. THERE WAS NO PROBLEMS WITH ANY OF THE WIRING COMING TO THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER EITHER. WHEN I ASKED MY MECHANIC WHAT HAD HAPPENED HE SAID IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL AND HAPPENED A LOT. ALSO WHEN I REPLACED THE PART ANOTHER ERROR CAME UP THAT I WAS UNAWARE OF BECAUSE OF THE DEFECTIVE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER. SO THIS WHOLE TIME I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE I HAD NO REAL IDEA OF THE STATE OF MY VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THIS COMMON DEFECT. VERY SCARY!!!! THERE IS A SWITCH (CALLED THE BRAKE PRESSURE DEACTIVATION SWITCH) HOOKED TO THE BRAKING SYSTEM THAT DETECTS WHEN THE BRAKE HAS BEEN PUSHED AND STOPS THE CRUISE CONTROL ACCORDINGLY. WELL? THE BRAKE PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL DEACTIVATION SWITCH (SCDS) (2B264) LOCATED UNDER THE MASTER CYLINDER (BEHIND THE AIR FILTER) OVER TIME DEVELOPS A LEAK. THIS CAUSES A SHORT AND A FUSE TRIP, FUSE #10 IF THE ENGINE IS ON. THIS LEAK ALSO CAUSES BRAKE FLUID TO WICK DOWN TWO WIRES TO THE ABS BRAKE MODULE (2C219). THE FLUID ACCUMULATES ON THE (ALWAYS ON) POWER CONNECTORS FOR THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM WHICH ARE POWERED BY FUSES 101 AND 102 AND ARE BOTH 40 AMP. THE FLUID ATTRACTS MOISTURE, ROAD SALT AND LEADS TO A FIRE WHEN THE FLUID AND MOISTURE ACT AS CONDUCTOR BETWEEN THE HOT LEADS AND GROUND. THIS SWITCH HAS BEEN THE SUBJECT OF OTHER FORD RECALLS, JUST NOT MY WINDSTAR VAN YET. MY WIRING HARNESS WHEN INSPECTED WAS WET WITH BRAKE FLUID, INCLUDING THE CONNECTIONS AND THE INLINE FUSES, WHICH BASICALLY PERMITS ELECTRICITY TO JUMP PAST THE INLINE FUSES AND CONTINUE TO HEAT UP THE WIRING HARNESS. THE FUSES BODIES CRUMBLED WHEN INSPECTED. SINCE MOST DOUBLE SIDE DOOR VANS ARE PREDOMINANTLY DRIVEN BY LARGE FAMILIES, THE POSSIBILITY OF MULTIPLE FATALITIES PER VEHICLE DUE TO A HORRIFIC DEATH FROM BEING BURNT ALIVE IS A VALID POINT TO CONSIDER. ABS LIGHT CONTINUES TO COME ON INTERMITTENTLY. NO IMMEDIATE AFFECT ON BRAKING UNTIL USED HARD. THEN REAR BRAKES LOCK-UP IMMEDIATELY. SLIDING DOORS WILL NOT OPEN USING OVERHEAD CONTROL. LOCKS DO NOT 'UN-LOCK' WHEN UNLOCK IS DEPRESSED. CHILD PROTECTIVE DOOR LOCKS ARE OFF, AND STILL THE SLIDING DOORS WILL NOT OPERATE FROM INSIDE HANDLE. THE ONLY AUTOMATIC FUNCTION THAT OPERATE ON THE SLIDING DOORS IS THE 'CLOSE DOOR' BUTTON ON BOTH SIDES. EXTERIOR HANDLES DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR UNTIL THE LOCKS ARE MANUALLY/PHYSICALLY FORCED INTO THE UNLOCK POSITION. DASHBOARD LIGHTS AND GAUGES GO OUT-OF-CONTROL RANDOMLY. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND ALL MY INSTRUMENT PANEL NEEDLES (GAS, RPM, MILEAGE, TEMPERATURE) WERE ALL JUMPING AROUND. THIS WENT ON ALL THE WAY HOME. I PARKED THE CAR BUT THE RPM NEEDLE WAS STUCK AND I COULD NOT SHIFT THE CAR INTO PARK (P) AND COULD NOT TURN OFF THE CAR. I CALLED A LOCAL MECHANIC AND HE CAME OVER AND PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL (N) AND TURNED OFF THE CAR. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE MECHANIC TO HAVE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CHECKED. THE MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE RPM NEEDLE SO THAT I COULD SHIFT THE CAR BUT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CONTINUES TO SPORADICALLY GO FROM WORKING, TO NOT WORKING AT ALL, TO ALL THE NEEDLES JUMPING AROUND. THE MECHANIC WAS AWARE THAT I HAD THE TRANSMISSION DONE 3 TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN SEPT. 2003 AND TOLD ME THAT THE MALFUNCTIONING INSTRUMENT PANEL MAY BE CONTRIBUTING TO THE TRANSMISSION ISSUES. *TR

ALL OF THE DASHBOARD NEEDLES BEGAN FLIPPING BACK AND FORTH SPORADICALLY. THEY WOULD BOTTOM OUT BELOW THE 0 MARK FOR A WHILE REGISTERING NO SPEED OR GAS TANK AMOUNT AND THEN START JUMPING AROUND AGAIN. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO PARK THE VEHICLE, THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE WAS LYING ACROSS THE BOTTOM AND KEPT THE CAR FROM BEING ABLE TO GO INTO PARK. AT THIS POINT, THE CAR WAS UNABLE TO BE TURNED OFF COMPLETELY, UNABLE TO BE RE-STARTED, UNABLE TO STEER AND I HAD TO HOLD MY FOOT ON THE BREAK IN ORDER TO KEEP IT FROM ROLLING. WE WERE EVENTUALLY ABLE TO START AND THEN DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME ONCE THE NEEDLE JUMPED BACK UP. ONCE AGAIN IN THE DRIVEWAY, IT DID THE SAME THING AND WE HAD TO DRILL A HOLE IN THE DASH IN ORDER TO MANUALLY MOVE THE NEEDLE OUT OF THE WAY SO THE VAN COULD BE PLACED IN PARK. THEN THE RECALL OF 2009 TO REPLACE THE MALFUNCTIONED PART OCCURRED ON 12/9/2009 - THE VERY NEXT DAY (DEC 10, 2009) THE ABS LIGHT AGAIN APPEARED. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE RECALL WORK WAS DONE AND THEY TOLD ME TO BRING THE VAN BACK AND THEY WOULD 'DIAGNOSE' THE PROBLEM FOR $120. MAY 2012 WE REPLACED THE AFFECTED ABS PART WITH OUR OWN FINANCES BECAUSE THE FORD DEALERSHIP TOLD US THAT THE AFFECTED PART WAS NO LONGER UNDER RECALL AND WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. IT SOLVED THE ABS LIGHT FROM COMING ON FOR ABOUT A WEEK. TO THIS DATE THE LIGHT COMES ON. WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE BASED ON THE REPORTS THAT IT WAS AN EXCELLENT FAMILY VEHICLE FOR SAFETY. I WOULD CONSIDER BRAKING AN IMPORTANT FEATURE, TOO. PLEASE HAVE FORD RESOLVE THIS MATTER IMMEDIATELY AND NOT JUST IGNORE THE MATTER. I HAVE LESS THAN 85,000 MILES ON THE VAN SO IT IS NOT DUE TO OVERUSE OR NEGLECT. REGARDING THE 2009-2010 PERFORM RECALL 09S09 OF THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH WIRE ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT. IT DID NOT WORK - IT NEVER WORKED, NOR DID IT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. WITHIN 2 DAYS OF THE INSTALLATION THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. TO THIS DATE BRAKE FLUID IS STILL LEAKING INTO THE COMPONENT. IT CAUSES MY BRAKE LIGHTS TO STAY ON UPON STOPPING AND TURNING THE CAR OFF - WHICH IF GOES UNNOTICED, IT DRAINS THE BATTERY. TO THIS DATE THE CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT WORK. AND IT HAS ALSO REDUCED MY SAFE BRAKING DISTANCE. I HAVE VERY LOW MILES ON THE VAN - LESS THAN 81,000 MILES - SO IT IS NOT CAUSE BY HEAVY USAGE. FORD HAS FAILED TO FIX THE ISSUE WHICH IS THE LEAKING BRAKE FLUID ONTO THIS WIRING ASSEMBLY. THERE ARE MANY FORD WINDSTARS STILL IN USE THAT ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. BACK IN 2008 I WAS INVOLVED IN A FENDER BENDER (ABOUT $6,000 IN DAMAGES) WHEN MY ABS FAILED CAUSING ME TO SLIDE INTO ANOTHER CAR. I OWN A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS HAVE QUIT WORKING FOR THE THIRD TIME. THIS ALWAYS SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHILE I AM DRIVING IN THE RAIN, WHICH IS NOT SAFE AT ALL, BUT YESTERDAY IT HAPPENED DURING A VERY HEAVY THUNDERSTORM WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH! IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN WIPER MOTOR FAILURE AND THE MOTOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE SEEN A RECALL IN THE PAST ON THE 2000 FORD WINDSTAR FOR THIS SAME COMPLAINT. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THAT MY WINDSTAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. AS MUCH OF A HASSLE AND AN EXPENSE IT IS TO HAVE THE WIPER MOTOR REPLACED, IT'S STILL NOT AS MUCH A HASSLE AS IT IS DANGEROUS TO BE DRIVING A VEHICLE THAT NOT ONLY DO THE WIPERS RANDOMLY QUIT WORKING WITHOUT ANY WARNING BUT THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL WILL KICK OFF ALL THE TIME AND FORD WON'T FIX OR DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE FAILURES THAT SO MANY OTHER WINDSTAR OWNERS CONTINUE TO HAVE. HOW MANY RECALLS ON SAFETY ISSUES DO YOU HAVE TO HAVE BEFORE THE ENTIRE VEHICLE IS RECALLED? THE FRAME, THE SUSPENSION, THE WIPERS, THE SPEED CONTROL SYSTEM AND THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM, ALL THE THINGS THAT A DRIVER TRULY NEEDS TO SAFELY TRANSPORT THEIR FAMILY AROUND HAVE BEEN RECALLED ON THE WINDSTAR. THIS DOESN'T EVEN TOUCH THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT HAS BEEN SPENT ON THE LEAN SYSTEM BANK 1 & 2 ERROR CODES AND THE ENGINE LIGHT STILL COMES ON FOR THE SAME CODE. I'M SURE THIS HAS A LOT TO DO THE TERRIBLE GAS MILEAGE THAT IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO WHAT THE ORIGINAL STICKER QUOTED!. I HAD RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR MY FORD WINDSTAR 09S09. I HAD TAKEN MY VEHICLE IN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY ASCERTAINED THAT THE PART WAS DEFECTIVE AND HAD LEAKED. IT WAS NOTED WITH FORD THAT MY ABS LIGHT WAS ALWAYS ON, AS WAS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THAT MY CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT FUNCTION ANY MORE. MY SPEED INDICATOR AND ODOMETER DID NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY EITHER READING ONLY HALF OF THE ACTUAL SPEED AND MILEAGE. THESE WERE ALL NOTED AND THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE PART BUT STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE OTHER PROBLEMS THAT WERE CAUSED BY THE LEAKED HYDRAULIC FLUID. I STILL HAVE ISSUES WITH EVERYTHING STATED BECAUSE THEY DID NOT DO ANYTHING TO FIX THESE PROBLEMS JUST CHANGED THE PART. AT THIS POINT I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS TOO LATE TO DO ANYTHING BECAUSE ACCORDING TO FORD THE RECALL CASE WAS CLOSED BECAUSE THE DEFECTIVE PART WAS CHANGED. REPORTED THIS SEVERAL TIMES TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE LIGHT IS ON, BUT CAN NEVER FIGURE OUT THE APPROPRIATE DIAGNOSTICS AS TO WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE SENSORS OR THE ABS SYSTEM AND THEY HAVE BEEN UNWILLING TO REPLACE ANYTHING. EVEN DURING THE LAST RECALL (CRUISE CONTROL WIRING HARNESS ISSUE) THE MECHANICS AT SHULTS FORD OF WEXFORD, PA ADMITTED THAT THE LIGHT WAS ON AND WOULDN'T GO OFF, AND THAT THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHY, BUT THEY MADE NO ATTEMPT TO REPLACE IT. LATELY, MY LIGHT HAS BEEN LIT UP MORE CONSTANTLY AND IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE BRAKING DISTANCES ARE GENERALLY LONGER. I CANNOT ASCERTAIN IF THE ABS SYSTEM IS EVEN ENGAGING OR NOT, BUT IT SEEMS THAT FORD IS REALLY NOT TOO INTERESTED IN THIS PROBLEM. HOWEVER, THE ABS LIGHT IS STILL ON AND TO MY KNOWLEDGE THE ABS SYSTEM IS NOT WORKING. FORD CLAIMS THE TWO ISSUES ARE NOT RELATED. HOWEVER, WHEN I HAD DIAGNOSTIC WORK DONE BY MY MECHANIC HE PINPOINTED THE ABS/ECM MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NOT WORKING. THAT IN MY OPINION LINKS THE TWO ISSUES BECAUSE THE CRUISE CONTROL IS TIED INTO THAT ABS MODULE (WHICH IS RIGHT BELOW THE SCDS SWITCH). FORD IS NOT TAKING ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ABS MODULE AT THIS POINT. IN READING SOME OTHER INFORMATION ONLINE IT SEEMS THAT MODULE EXPANDS WHEN IT GETS WARM AND CAUSE INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL CONNECTION IN THE UNIT BECAUSE THE FRAGILE BOARD IS BEING STRETCHED AND MALFORMED. THE OCTOBER 2009 RECALL (TO FIX THE SCDS SWITCH) WILL NOT FIX THIS PROBLEM UNLESS YOU HAD A FIRE AT THE ABS CONNECTOR. WHICH TOO ME IS RIDICULOUS BECAUSE FORD KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS MODULE DESIGN AND BECAUSE THAT PART COSTS $800 THEY ARE NOT CONSIDERING IT THEIR ISSUE. WHEN RESEARCHING THE POSSIBLE CAUSE OF THE BLOWN FUSE, FOUND INFORMATION DESCRIBING A POSSIBLE DEFECTIVE SWITCH ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE MASTER CYLINDER. THE SWITCH WAS IN FACT LEAKING BRAKE FLUID INTO THE HARNESS PLUGGED INTO IT. THE HARNESS ENDED AT THE ABS CONTROL UNIT UNDER THE VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT. BRAKE FLUID WAS FOUND AT THIS SITE AS WELL. AS A TEMPORARY REPAIR, THE SWITCH WAS REMOVED AND A PLUG INSTALLED INTO THE MASTER CYLINDER. ALSO, TWO 40A FUSES WERE REMOVED FROM THE UNDER-HOOD POWER DISTRIBUTION BOX TO DISABLE THE ABS SYSTEM. AS A RESULT, THE SPEEDOMETER, ODOMETER AND A/C FUNCTIONS RETURNED TO NORMAL. HOWEVER, ABS WILL NOT FUNCTION UNTIL THE ISSUE OF THE LEAKING SWITCH, WIRING HARNESS, AND ABS CONTROLLER ARE ADDRESSED. *TR

FORD WINDSTAR BRAKE, ABS BRAKE, CRUISE CONTROL, AND SPEEDOMETER/ODOMETER ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS; ALL THESE PROBLEMS ARE CAUSED BY A BRAKE LEAK FROM "THE BRAKE PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL DEACTIVATION SWITCH (2B264) LOCATED UNDER THE MASTER CYLINDER (BEHIND THE AIR FILTER). THIS LEAK ALSO CAUSES BRAKE FLUID TO WICK DOWN TWO WIRES TO THE ABS BRAKE MODULE (2C219). THE FLUID ACCUMULATES ON THE (ALWAYS ON) POWER CONNECTORS FOR THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM WHICH ARE POWERED BY FUSES 101 AND 102 AND ARE BOTH 40 AMP. THE FLUID ATTRACTS MOISTURE, ROAD SALT AND LEADS TO A FIRE WHEN THE FLUID AND MOISTURE ACT AS CONDUCTOR BETWEEN THE HOT LEADS AND GROUND. WE OWN A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR VAN. THIS VAN HAS HAD INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS WITH THE ABS LIGHT COMING ON AND STAYING ON DURING THE DURATION OF DRIVING THE VAN. THE VAN HAS ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH ROUGH IDLING AND PROBLEMS WITH VALVE SEALS THAT ARE AROUND THE INJECTORS GOING BAD (TWICE). RECENTLY WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE WARNING ERR*F CAME ON AND THEN A WARNING OF "FUEL COMPUTER DATA ERROR" AND "OIL LIFE DATA ERROR" REMAINED ON. I ALSO LOST A/C POWER, ODOMETER READING, AND SPEEDOMETER READING. THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKING SYSTEMS SEEMED TO BE OUT. WHEN RESTARTING THE VAN, THE IDLE WAS VERY ROUGH. THE VAN DID RUN WITH THE TACHOMETER OPERATIONAL. I HOPE THE FUEL GAUGE, AND TEMPERATURE GAUGE WERE WORKING. AFTER RESEARCH, WE DETERMINED THE #10 FUSE WAS BLOWN. WHEN I TRIED TO REPLACE IT, THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM THE BACK OF THE AIR FILTER AREA. THERE IS A CONNECTOR UNDER THE MASTER CYLINDER THAT HAS CORROSION, BRAKE FLUID AND APPEARS TO BE BURNT ON THE INSIDE. WHEN I DISCONNECTED THE CONNECTOR, AND RESTARTED THE VAN, THE PROBLEMS HAVE APPEARED TO BE GONE. I AM AFRAID THAT THIS WILL ONLY LEAD TO MORE PROBLEMS AND MORE COSTLY ONES IN THE FUTURE. *TR

MY MINIVAN HAS STARTED ACTING STRANGE WITH LIGHTS FLICKERING INSIDE AND ON THE DASH BOARD. UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS, I BEGAN TO NOTICE MY ABS LIGHT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATE. I WAS GIVEN THE FOLLOWING RESULTS, C1155 - LF SPEED INPUT FAIL C1185 - POWER RELAY CIRCUIT FAIL OTHER CODES BELOW ARE CAUSED BY C1185 AND C1155 C1144 - WHEEL SPEED SENSOR RR TONE RING TOOTH MISSING FAULT C1198 - ABS INLET VALVE COIL LF CIRCUIT FAILURE C1210 - ABS OUTLET VALVE COIL RF CIRCUIT FAILURE C1214 - ABS INLET VALVE COIL RF CIRCUIT FAILURE C1233 - SPEED WHEEL LF INPUT SIGNAL MISSING C1242 - ABS OUTLET VALVE COIL LR CIRCUIT FAILURE C1250 - ABS INLET VALVE COIL LR CIRCUIT FAILURE RECOMMEND REPLACING ABS ECU MODULE AND L/F SPEED SENSOR. THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT OVER THE PAST YEAR BUT OVER THE PAST MONTH THE ABS INDICATOR LAMP IS ALWAYS ON. THE ISSUE HAS NOT YET BEEN CORRECTED AS I WANTED TO LOOK INTO THE ISSUE MORE. SOME QUICK SEARCHING ON GOOGLE QUICKLY BROUGHT UP THAT I AM NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT BUT ONE OF MANY. I HAD FOUND ON MANY WEBSITES THAT C1185 IS RELATED TO THE EXPANDING AND CONTRACTING OF THE HEATSINK ON WHICH THE ABS ECU IS MOUNTED. THE RESULT IS THE ABS ECU FAILS TO POWER ON CORRECTLY DUE TO THE STRESS PLACED ON THE SENSITIVE ELECTRONIC BOARD. I AM ASSUMING THAT THE L/F WHEEL SENSOR IS A SEPARATE ISSUE BUT WITH A BAD ABS ECU, IT COULD POSSIBLY BE RELATED. *TR

I HAVE A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR AND THE FUSE #10 KEPT BLOWING AND THE A/C, SPEEDOMETER, ODOMETER, ETC.. STOPPED WORKING. AFTER RESEARCHING ON INTERNET I FOUND THE CULPRIT WAS A LEAKY BRAKE PRESSURE DEACTIVATION SWITCH, WHICH ONCE I DISCONNECTED IT THE FUSE STOPPED TRIPPING AND THE AC AND DASHBOARD WORKED. I FOUND THAT THE BRAKE PRESSURE DEACTIVATION SWITCH HAS LEAKED AND ALSO CORRODED AND STARTED TO MELT THE CRUISE CONTROL WIRES, WHICH HASN'T WORKED IN A WHILE, AND THE ABS LIGHT HAS BEEN ON AND OFF FOR A WHILE. THIS IS A KNOWN FIRE HAZARD BY FORD AND THERE IS NOT YET A RECALL THOUGH IT IS VERY DANGEROUS. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER. IT WAS THERE THAT THE SERVICE MANAGER INFORMED US THAT THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY THE SAME FAULTY PART THAT IS CURRENTLY UNDER RECALL IN THE F-150'S AND OTHER FORD PRODUCTS. I WAS TOLD IT IS THE SAME REPLACEMENT PART AND THE REPAIR PROCEDURE FOR THE BURNT WIRING IS A FORD AUTHORIZED REPAIR. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD AND THEY INFORMED ME THERE IS NOT CAUSE FOR ALARM OR CONCERN WITH THE WINDSTAR. THEY ALSO INFORMED ME THAT ONLY THE NHTSA CAN ISSUE A RECALL. FORD DID NOT OFFER ANY HELP WITH OUR EXPENSES THAT WE INCURRED DUE TO THIS FAULTY CRUISE CONTROL CUTOFF SWITCH LOCATED ON THE MASTER CYLINDER. WE ARE VERY LUCKY THAT NO ONE WAS HURT IN THIS INCIDENT. THE OWNER HAS NOT TAKEN THE VAN TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE SHE COULD NOT AFFORD THE COST OF LABOR AND SERVICE CHARGES. THE VAN ROLLED OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY ACCROSS THE STREET INTO THE WOODS STOPPING ONCE IT HIT A TREE. THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR DOESN'T ALWAYS OPEN WHEN I PUSH THE BUTTON. THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR SOMETIMES SOUNDS LIKE ITS NOT COMPLETELY CLOSED. IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S CLOSED ON THE OUTSIDE, BUT RATTLES GOING OVER BUMPS OR AROUND CORNERS. THIS PROBLEM PARTICULARLY SCARES ME BECAUSE I HAVE A CHILD SITTING IN THE SEAT NEXT TO THAT DOOR. ON 5/1/00 I WAS ATTEMPTING TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT AND MY CAR SLOWED DOWN BUT CONTINUED TO ROLL AND WOULD NOT STOP. I HAD TO STAND UP IN MY SEAT AND PUCH THE BRAKE TO THE FLOOR TO GET THE CAR TO STOP. WHILE ATTEMPTING THIS, THE CAR MADE A HORRIBLE GRINDING NOISE AND SHOOK VIOLENTLY. IT WAS A BRAND NEW CAR AND IT WAS RAINING SO I THOUGHT MAYBE I JUST NEEDED TO GET USED TO IT. ON 5/7/00, SUNDAY, I WAS OUT AND AT EVERY STOP SIGN OR LIGHT THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP AGAIN. I CALLED THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY, ADVISED THEM OF THE PROBLEM. I HAD THE CAR TOWED IN AS I WAS PETRIFIED TO DRIVE IT. THEY LOOKED AT IT AND TOLD ME THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. I TOLD THEM I WAS NOT TAKING THE CAR HOME UNTIL THEY FOUND THE PROBLEM AND FIXED IT. AT 7PM ON THE 9TH THEY CALLED AND SAID A TECH HAD TAKEN THE CAR HOME OVERNIGHT AND IT HAPPENED TO HIM AND HE ALMOST KILLED SOMEONE SO THEY NOW BELIEVED ME. THEY SAID IT WAS A SWITCH THAT TOLD THE COMPUTER WHETHER I WAS ACCELERATING OR BRAKING. I PICKED THE CAR UP AT 8PM THAT DAY. AS I WAS DRIVING TO WORK THE NEXT MORNING AND WENT TO STOP AT A LIGHT, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. I GOT TO WORK CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND THE DEALER AND TOLD THE DEALER DO NOT RETURN IT UNTIL IT WAS FIXED. THAT WAS ON 5/10. THE EVENING OF 5/11 I WAS CALLED ONCE AGAIN AND WAS TOLD IT WAS FIXED. THEY NOW BELIEVED IT WAS THE SPEED SENSOR AND HAD REPLACED IT. ALL WAS WELL, FOR A WHILE. YESTERDAY, 10/17 I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AND THIS SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME AND I AM SCARED TO GET BACK IN THAT CAR. I HAVE TWO SMALL CHILDREN AND AM AFRAID FOR THEIR SAFETY.
