MOST IMPORTANT IS THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN CHANGED AND CHECKED. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE BRAKES HAVE JUST FAILED AND I WOULD PUMP THEM ENOUGH JUST TO GET IN A SAFE LOCATION. AAA HAS HAD TO PICK ME UP AND WHEN THE BRAKES WHERE CHECKED THEY WERE FIND AND THE FLUID FULL. ALSO THE REAR JUST FELL BUT I HAD THAT REPAIRED BY A LOCAL REPUTABLE SHOP ON CANDLER RD, DECATUR/ THERE IS A RESIDUE ALL AROUND WHERE I PUT THE GAS IN. I'VE HAD THE SAME MECHANIC FOR ALMOST 30 YEARS AND HE SAYS THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES MAY BE FAULTY. THE BRAKE AND ENGINE LIGHT WILL NOT GO OUT EVEN WHEN REPAIRS ARE MADE ACCORDING TO THE CODES THAT COME UP. THE SCARIEST TIME WAS WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON UNIVERSITY AVE IN ATLANTA AND THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP AT THE LIGHT AT A NORMALLY BUSY INTERSECTION. I BEGAN BLOWING THE HORN AND THANK GOODNESS NO ONE WAS AHEAD OF ME. AAA TOOK THEIR SWEET TIME COMING AND BY THE TIME THEY GOT THERE THE PEDAL WAS BACK UP BUT I HAD THEM TO TOW ME HOME ANYWAYS. MY MECHANIC CHECKED IT AND ALL WAS FIND BUT HE WAS CONCERNED AND SO WAS I. I DID NOT CONTACT FORD BUT IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN AS I STARTED IT YESTERDAY MORNING AND THE BRAKES WERE ON THE FLOOR. THIS IS JUST TOO DANGEROUS. I TOLD MY MECHANIC NOT TO COME CHECK IT BEFORE CONTACTING FORD.

BRAKES CONTINUALLY HAVE FAILED CAUSING ACCIDENTS. PEDAL GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BEFORE AND AFTER NEW BRAKE PADS AND BRING BLED.THROTTLE IDLE SENSOR CAUSES VEHICLE TO STALL WHILE DRIVING. ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. NOW THEY JUST STAY ON. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT,IF ANY RECALLS HAVE BEEN REPAIRED OR ANY OPTIONS THAT MAY BE AVAILABLE.

THIS VAN LOOKS FINE ON THE OUTSIDE,BUT THE FRAME AND FLOOR ARE RUSTED OUT. I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET WHEN THE BRAKES WENT OUT AND WHEN I TOOK IT TO BE REPAIRED THE MECHANIC AT CARLS BODY SHOP , WHERE IT WAS TI BE REPAIRED TOLD ME IT WAS BEYOND REPAIR AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE VAN IS MADE TO TRANSPORT A WHEELCHAIR AND THE AREA WHERE THE WHEELCHAIR IS RUSTED THE WORST. THE MECHANIC ALSO TOOK PICTURES OF THE UNDER BODY TO SHOW ME HOW BAD IT REALLY WAS.

REAR AXLE BREAK DUE TO CORROSION OF ACKNOWLEDGED INADEQUATELY DESIGNED AXLE. BREAK HAPPENED IN THE REINFORCEMENT BRACKET INSTALLED DO TO INITIAL AXLE RECALL FOR POTENTIAL BREAK DUE TO CORROSION.. CAR WAS ON CITY STREET IN MOTION TO FREEWAY ONRAMP FORTUNATELY THE AXLE BROKE PRIOR TO ENTERING FREEWAY. AXLE BREAK RESULTED IN SAGGING AXLE AND A WHEEL TILTED INWARD AT ABOUT 20 DEGREES AND WEDGED AGAINST THE INNER WHEEL WELL. TIRE STARTED TO SMOKE. CAR IS UNDRIVEABLE. THE REPAIR IS ESTIMATED TO $1400. FORD WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS BREAK IN THE BRACKETS INSTALLED TO PREVENT THE BREAK. ADDITIONAL COMPONENTS ARE ALSO NEEDING REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT DUE TO THE BREAK OF THE AXLE.

THIS ISSUE WAS PRESENT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE PREVIOUS OWNERS HAD IT CHECKED OUT NUMEROUS TIMES, COULD NEVER FIND THE CAUSE. I HAVE HAD THEM CHECKED, SAME RESULTS.

THE MANUFACTURER CONFIRMED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE CONTACT ALSO INDICATED THAT WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE ABS AND BRAKE SENSOR WARNING LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES WERE NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. I CAME UP TO A STOP SIGN, THE ENTIRE FRONT AXLE BROKE OFF THE FRAME, I LOST STEERING, BRAKES, HAD TO SLAM IT INTO PARK TO STOP. I ENDED UP ACROSS THE ROAD. THERE WAS A RECALL IN 2011 FOR THE AXLE MOUNT AND FORD DECIDED IT ONLY NEEDED A COATING ON IT, 5 SECONDS LATER WE WOULD OF BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY AND KILLED. I EMAILED FORD AND THEY SAID THE RECALL WAS STILL OPEN, THE FORD DEALER NEVER CLOSED IT, SO THEY WON'T HELP ME. THAT IS BULL, THE COATED IT AND FORGOT TO CLOSE IT OUT, THATS THEIR FAULT, I CAN TAKE PICS IF YOU WANT THEM.

I AM NOT DRIVING THE VEHICLE NOW BECAUSE I FEEL THERE'S A POTENTIAL FOR FIRE THE VEHICLE WAS ALWAYS IN MOTION WHEN THE LIGHTS CAME ON AND BRAKE LIGHTS STAYED ON. I CAN'T GET THEM TO GO OFF EVEN WITH THE CAR STOPPED AND TURNED OFF.

I WAS TOLD THAT IT'S A FAULTY ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL AND A REPAIR WOULD COST IN THE THOUSANDS. IT SURE SEEMS LIKE FORD WOULD HAVE A RECALL ON THIS FAULTY SAFETY ISSUE. SOMETIMES THE LIGHT IS ON WHEN I START THE VAN, SOMETIMES IT COMES ON AFTER A DRIVE FOR A LITTLE, BUT ONCE IT'S ON IT STAYS ON UNTIL THE VAN IS STOPPED AND SHUT OFF. I'VE READ THAT IT COULD DEAL WITH THE HEAT AND/OR CORROSION ISSUE OF EXPANDING ALUMINUM PLATE. BASED ON THE INCONSISTENCY OF THE LIGHT IT WOULD APPEAR THAT AT TIMES THE COMPUTER AND ABS IS WORKING WHEN IN COOLER SITUATIONS. I HAD A BRAKE SHOP CHECK IT OUT AND THEY DETERMINED THAT IT WAS THE ABS CONTROL MODULE (EBCM TO BE EXACT) AND THAT IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE IT JUST WOULDN'T HAVE ABS FUNCTIONING WHEN THE LIGHT COMES ON, CONTACTED FORD DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE ISSUE BUT WHEN THEY CHECKED IT THE LIGHT WAS OUT AND SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG AND BECAUSE IT WASN'T A RECALL NOTHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT AND IF I WANTED IT BROUGHT IN TO FIX IT IT WOULD COST ME $785 DOLLARS. SPACE IS INADEQUATE BUT WILL TRY TO SUMMARIZE. VEHICLE SUBFRAME FAILED AT BOTH PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE REAR MOUNTS AND THEREBY CAUSED SEPARATION OF THE STEERING COMPONENTS AND COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING, LOSS OF BRAKES, AND LOSS OF TRANSMISSION CONTROL. THE OWNER USED THE ONLY MEANS AVAILABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY TURNING OFF THE IGNITION KEY AND 'RIDING IT OUT.' SUBFRAME COMPONENTS AND THE ENGINE/TRANSMISSION HAD BEEN IN CONTACT WITH PAVEMENT. LARGE PORTIONS OF THE SUBFRAME APPEAR TO BE MISSING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE EXHAUST SYSTEM WAS SEVERED. THE TRANSMISSION LINKAGE PULLED AWAY AND AS STATED THE STEERING COMPONENTS SEPARATED. WHAT IS BELIEVED TO BE THE AIR BAG CABLE BECAME WRAPPED AROUND THE STEERING COMPONENTS. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP WHICH REFUSES TO INSPECT, DISCLOSE, PHOTOGRAPH, OR ALLOW TO BE PHOTOGRAPHED THE MASSIVE DAMAGE WHILE DECLARING THE VEHICLE "REPAIRABLE" AND THE "REPAIRS HAVE TO BE DONE." AT ISSUE ARE DECLARATIONS THAT UNDER THE RECALL THAT "RESPONSIBILITY" RESTS WITH THE OWNER AND A "RIGHT TO DENY COVERAGE." A DEMAND THAT REPAIRS BE SCHEDULED OR THE VEHICLE BE TOWED FROM THE CAR LOT WITH A DEMAND THAT A DOCUMENT BE SIGNED WHICH AMOUNTS TO A RELEASE AND COMPLETE MISREPRESENTATION OF THE FACTS. VEHICLE HAD A RECALL ON THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH (SCDS) IN 2009, REPAIR WAS DONE BY INSTALLING JUMPER AS SCDS WAS NOT LEAKING. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AS BRAKE LIGHT WAS ON. FOUND LEAKING SCDS TO BE PROBLEM. FORD CONTACTED TO COVER REPAIR AS SCDS WAS KNOWN TO BE BAD WHEN RECALLED IN 2009, BUT WAS NOT LEAKING. THE LEAKING SCDS CAUSED THE JUMPER (INSTALLED DURING RECALL) TO GO BAD AND LEAK BRAKE FLUID OUT OF SCDS. FORD ADVISED THAT "SORRY, THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO BECAUSE THE RECALL HAD BEEN DONE." CUSTOMER CARE PERSONNEL ELEVATED CONCERN TO SUPERVISOR, WHO ALSO REITERATED FORD'S STANCE THAT THE ORIGINAL RECALL HAD BEEN PERFORMED AND THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE. THEY EXPLAINED THAT IN SPITE OF ALL DAMAGE CAUSED THE ONLY THING THEY WOULD DO WAS REPLACE LEAKING SWITCH WITH NEW ONE AS MANDATED BY THE RECALL. THEY REPLACED THIS SWITCH AND RETURNED VEHICLE WITH ALL OF THE SAME PROBLEMS INCLUDING BRAKE FLUID INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION RANGE SELECTOR SWITCH AND VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR DIRECTLY UNDERNEATH MASTER CYLINDER. AFTER GOING THROUGH A HEAVY DOWNPOUR AT ABOUT 20MPH THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. NOTHING WAS HUNG UP AND IT LATER CLEARED. IT HAS BEEN ALSO NOTED THAT AFTER SEVERAL BRAKE SERVICE INSPECTIONS AND REPAIRS AT MAJOR AUTO REPAIR SHOPS, SUCH AS MIDAS, CARX , AND PEP BOYS. TECHNICIANS HAVE OBSERVED THAT THE BRAKE SYSTEMS MAJOR COMPONENTS AND HARDWARE APPEARED TO HAVE FAILED DUE TO HIGH LEVELS OF CORROSION AND EASILY RUSTING PARTS SUCH AS BRAKE SHOES, PADS, WHEEL CYLINDERS, BRAKE DRUMS, BRAKE LINE HOSES AND CONNECTORS. EACH OF THESE REPAIR SHOPS HAVE INFORMED ME THAT THE REPAIR/ REPLACEMENT OF MANY OF THESE VITAL COMPONENTS WOULD BE EXTREMELY COSTLY TO REPAIR AND COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURIES OR CREATE A HAZARDOUS SITUATION FOR THE VEHICLE'S OPERATOR AND OTHER DRIVERS IF NOT REPAIRED IMMEDIATELY. THE VEHICLES BRAKES AND HARDWARE HAVE BEEN REPLACED MORE THAN THREE TIMES BY ASAE CERTIFIED /QUALIFIED MECHANICS AND THE BRAKE SYSTEMS WARNING LIGHTS CONTINUOUSLY REMAIN ON DURING REGULAR OPERATION. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS GOING ON. WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE (WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON) I NOTICED THE OD LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I PULLED OVER AND THE BRAKES WERE SMOKING TO THE POINT I WAS AFRAID THERE WOULD BE A FIRE. I HAD TO SIT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH MY TODDLERS AND WAIT FOR IT TO STOP SMOKING. I WAS STILL ABOUT 20 MILES FROM HOME. I AM NOT SOMEONE WHO IS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE FAMILY NEARBY OR FRIENDS WHO COULD HELP. WE ARE ON A TIGHT BUDGET WITH A CHILD WHO HAS SPECIAL NEEDS AND ONLY ONE WORKING PARENT SO COULD NOT AFFORD A TOW. THE 'CHECK ENGINE' LIGHT STAYED ON BUT THE OD WAS OFF UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE. THE OD CAME ON 2X IN THE 20 MILES IT TOOK TO ARRIVE. EACH TIME IT CAME ON I PULLED OVER, TURNED THE VAN OFF AND BACK ON. WHEN THE OD WAS FLASHING WHEN I LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR, EVEN ON AN INCLINE, IT WAS SLOWING ME DOWN SO I FIGURED THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED. WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON I WAS UNABLE TO TELL SO I WAS PUSHING IT UP TO 70MPH WITH THE BRAKES GOING AGAINST IT. ON THE WAY HOME I DID NOT USE CRUISE CONTROL BUT IT KEPT HAPPENING ONLY IT WAS VERY NOTICEABLE THAT THE BRAKES WERE RUBBING. THERE IS NOW BRAKE DUST ALL OVER MY TIRES AND THE SIDE OF THE VAN. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT, THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A FIRE! MY DAUGHTER IS DISABLED AND IN A COMPLEX CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEM WITH STRAPS AND POSITIONERS. I ALSO HAVE A 1 YR OLD AND IF SOMETHING HAD HAPPENED I AM NOT CONFIDENT I COULD HAVE GOTTEN THEM BOTH OUT IN TIME HAD A FIRE STARTED. I NEED THIS VAN TO CARRY MY DAUGHTERS WHEEL CHAIR AROUND. I ALMOST REAR ENDED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. AT THIS POINT I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER. THEY RAN A $100 DIAGNOSTIC AND SAID IT WAS THE ABS MODULE THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED...$980 LATER. THE CLERK TOLD ME THAT THIS MAY NOT FIX THE PROBLEM BUT THAT THEY NEEDED TO DO THIS *FIRST. WE DID NOT HAVE IT REPLACED SINCE THEY COULD NOT GUARANTEE THIS WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. THE LIGHTS CONTINUED TO COME ON BUT AT CLOSER INTERVALS. LAST WEEK, AUGUST, 2012 IT HAPPENED FOR THE 3RD TIME; THE ABS LIGHT DID NOT COME ON DURING THIS EPISODE. I WAS COMING TO A STOP AT A HIGHWAY ENTRANCE.... MY CAR WOULD NOT STOP AGAIN! IT KEPT PULSATING AND PULLING FORWARD TOWARDS THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC. VERY SCARY!! JUST RECENTLY, IN THE PAST COUPLE MONTHS, THE ABS LIGHTS GO ON INTERMITTENTLY ON THE DASHBOARD, WARNING THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM. WE TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP, AND THEY SAID IT MAY NEED A NEW ECU OR COMPUTER MODULE, BUT THEY SAID IT WAS SAFE TO USE. HOWEVER, THE MANUAL SAYS WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE ON, THE ABS SYSTEM AND TRACTION CONTROL ARE DISABLED... THERE SEEMS TO BE A RECALL, BUT NO ONE AT THE DEALERSHIP MENTIONED ANY ISSUE. AT APPROXIMATELY 16:45 AFTER DRIVING 6 MILES THAT DAY, THE WINDSTAR VAN WAS STOPPED AND THE IGNITION KEY TURNED OFF. THE DELIVERY DRIVER WENT INSIDE HIS DESTINATION FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES. WHILE LOADING HIS CARGO, HE SMELLED SMOKE. LOOKING UP, HE NOTICED FLAMES COMING OUT OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT BETWEEN THE HOOD AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPER PLASTIC SHIELDING. USING AN ONBOARD 5 LB FIRE EXTINGUISHER, HE ATTEMPTED TO EXTINGUISH THE FLAMES BUT TO NO AVAIL. HE DIALLED 9-1-1 ON HIS PHONE. EMPLOYEES AT HIS DESTINATION ALSO NOTICED THE FIRE, AND CONTACTED THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT AS WELL. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES WITH SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE REAR PORTION OF THE ENGINE, THE FIRE WALL, BRAKE CYLINDER AND GLASS WINDSHIELD. THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE THAT DAY WAS IN THE 70 DEGREES RANGE, WINDOWS WERE DOWN IN THE VAN, AND THE A/C SYSTEM WAS NOT IN USE. *TT

THE BRAKE FLUID IS LEAKING FROM THE BRAKE PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL DEACTIVATION SWITCH. I CALLED RUSS MILNE FORD MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL, BUT WHEN I LOOKED IT UP ONLINE IT STATES IT IS A MAJOR PROBLEM AND COULD CAUSE A FIRE. THE SAID IT WOULD COST ABOUT $90 OR SO TO FIX IT. I HAVE ALREADY PUT A OVER $2000 IN REPAIRS IN THE LAST 2 YEARS ON THIS VEHICLE. I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE FIXED FOR FREE BEING IT IS A PROBLEM THAT THEY ARE VERY WELL AWARE OF. *JS
