I HAVE A TRAVEL TRAILER WITH 15' WHITE PAINTED STEEL SPOKE WHEELS, AFTER A YEAR ONE HAD A AIR LEAK WHERE THE RIM AND SPOKES ARE WELDED TOGETHER, ABOUT 6 MONTHS LATER ANOTHER WHEEL HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN, I ENDED UP PUTTING INNERTUBES IN THEM. IN SEPT. OF THIS YEAR WHILE TRAVELING AT 65MPH ON HIGHWAY 80 IN IOWA, WE HAD A WHEEL/TIRE FAILURE SINCE WE NEVER FELT ANYTHING WHEN IT HAPPENED WE DIDN'T PULL OVER RIGHT AWAY, I THOUGHT THE NOISE I HEARD WAS A TRUCK PASSING US BUT AFTER IT PASSED THE NOISE WAS STILL THERE. WE PULLED OVER TO FIND THAT ONE TIRE AND RIM WAS MISSING ONLY THE SPOKES WERE LEFT STILL BOLTED TO THE HUB. THE TIRES WERE INFLATED TO 65 PSI COLD THAT MORNING, THE LUG NUTS WERE CHECKED FOR TIGHTNESS ALSO, WE HAD BEEN ON THE ROAD FOR AROUND 5 HOURS. WE NEVER HEARD ANY NOISE THAT I WOULD THINK WAS A TIRE GOING BAD, THE FLAP, FLAP, FLAP SOUND YOU HEAR WHEN A TRUCK GOES BY WITH A BAD TIRE. THERE WAS NOT ANY DAMAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE TRAILER OR MARKS THAT MAY HAVE BEN MADE BY A TIRE COMING APART, THE DAMAGE TO THE TRAILER WAS TO THE PLASTIC FENDER AND METAL IT WAS SCREWED TO. I THINK THAT MAYBE THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE WHEEL MANUFACTURE, THAT THE WELDS WERE NOT AS GOOD AS THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN. IT WAS SUGGESTED I CONTACT YOU IN CASE THIS PROBLEM IS BIGGER THAN JUST MY WHEELS. I HAVE PHOTOS OF THE AFTERMATH IF NEEDED.

I BOUGHT MY SHASTA AIRFLYTE 16 IT HAD 0 MILES AND CAMPING WORLD IS 40-45 MILES TO MY HOUSE. WE HAD TO PULL OVER 2-3 TIMES BECAUSE WE THOUGHT THE CAMPER WAS COMING UNCOUPLED BECAUSE OF THE BOUNCING OF THE CAMPER AND THE SHAKING OF THE VIBRATIONS OF THE STEERING WHEEL, BUT WHEN WE GOT OUT EVERYTHING WAS FINE WE SMELLED BREAKS AND THEY WERE FINE.. SO WE GOT HOME AND 5HRS AFTER IT BEING HOME MY CAMPER WAS LEAKING THAT CAUSED US TO LOOK OVER THE WHOLE CAMPER CLOSE AND I SEEN DAYLIGHT IN A VENT WHEN SITTING ON THE GAUCHO. I FOUND OUR WHEEL WELLS WHERE BUSTED LOOSE AND GAPED OPEN AND TIRE SKID MARKS IN THE WELLS AND ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE WELLS ON THE FRAME RUB MARKS FROM THE SIDE WALLS. I COULDN'T FIT MY HANDS BETWEEN THE WELL AND THE TREAD OF MY TIRES AND I COULDN'T GET A FINGER BEHIND THE TIRE AND THE FRAME AND MEASUREMENTS IS ABOUT 1/4" SIDEWALL TO CAMPER ON ONE SIDE AND THE OTHER I CAN GET A FINGER BACK THERE BUT IT'S A TIGHT FIT IT MEASURES ABOUT 3/4" SIDE WALL TO CAMPER .. MY CAMPER WENT BACK TO THE FACTORY TO BE FIXED.

MY TIRE INFO LABEL HAD 65PSI BUT ON THE TIRE IT HAD 35PSI STAMPED ON THE TIRE... WHEN IT WENT BACK TO THE FACTORY THEY PUT THE RIGHT STICKER ON THE CAMPER.

WHEN I GOT MY CAMPER BACK FROM SHASTA AFTER THEY HAD THE CAMPER 79 DAYS FOR REPAIRS. I LOOKED UNDER MY CAMPER AND I FOUND THEY JUST PUT A FEW SCREWS IN THE WHEEL WELLS TO "FIX" DAMAGE FROM WHEELS BUSTING THE WHEEL WELL LOOSE FROM MY CAMPER, AND IT STILL HAS GAPS IN THE WHEEL WELLS AND EXPOSED SCREW WITH THE POINTED END POINTED TOWARDS MY TIRE ...

THIS IS FOR A 2015 FOREST RIVER SHASTA AIRFLYTE REISSUE 19 FOOT TRAVEL TRAILER, PRODUCTION # 1301. I BELIEVE THE OEM LEAF SUSPENSION SYSTEM AND PASSENGER TIRES ARE UNSAFE AND WILL LEAD TO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT, INJURY, OR DEATH. THE WHEEL WELL CLEARANCE IS NOT SUFFICIENT FOR THE OEM TIRES AND LEAF SUSPENSION SYSTEM ON THE TRAILER. ALSO, THE OEM TIRES ARE COKER WHITEWALL PASSENGER VEHICLE TIRES. I BELIEVE TRAVEL TRAILERS MUST BE MANUFACTURED WITH OEM TRAILER/CARGO TIRES WHICH HAVE STIFFER SIDEWALLS. I WAS UNAWARE OF THESE CONCERNS UNTIL AN ONLINE FORUM RECOMMENDED I CHECK MY TRAILER. I HAD RECENTLY COMPLETED AN APPROXIMATELY 1,000 MILE ROUND TRIP AND WHEN I CHECKED MY TRAILER UPON RETURN, I FOUND THE TIRES HAD BEEN RUBBING THE WHEEL WELLS BOTH ON TOP OF THE TIRES AND ON THE INSIDE OF THE TIRES. THE LEFT TIRE HAS ALREADY EXHIBITED TROUBLING SIDEWALL WEAR ON THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE.. THERE IS LESS THAN 2 INCHES OF CLEARANCE BETWEEN TOP OF TIRES AND WHEEL WELL AND LESS THAN 1 INCH CLEARANCE BETWEEN INSIDE OF TIRES AND WHEEL WELL. FOREST RIVER SHASTA HAS A WARRANTY REPAIR WHICH REPLACES THE REAR LEAF SPRING SHACKLES WITH ONES THAT ARE LONGER BUT THIS ONLY INCREASES THE ABOVE TIRE CLEARANCE BY ANOTHER INCH. THIS DOES NOTHING TO ADDRESS THE INSIDE CLEARANCE OF THE TIRE TO THE WHEEL WELL. WITH THE OEM SUSPENSION SYSTEM, THE TRAILER EXHIBITS EXCESSIVE SWAY EVEN WITH AN AFTERMARKET PROFESSIONALLY INSTALLED CURT ANTI-SWAY KIT. I FEAR THE WARRANTY INSTALLED LONGER LEAF SPRING SHACKLES COUPLED WITH THE COKER PASSENGER TIRES WILL ONLY AGGRAVATE THE EXCESSIVE SWAY ISSUE. TO MY KNOWLEDGE, FOREST RIVER SHASTA HAS NOT ISSUED A SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS CONDITION.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FOREST RIVER SHASTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CAMPER WAS EQUIPPED WITH PASSENGER TIRES INSTEAD OF TRAILER TIRES. THE WEIGHT OF THE EQUIPMENT PLACED ON THE CAMPER BROUGHT THE CAMPER VERY CLOSE TO THE TIRES, WHICH MADE IT DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE TRAILER WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT APPLICABLE...UPDATED 07/08/15*BF UPDATED 10/17/2017*CN

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FOREST RIVER SHASTA AIR FLYTE. WHILE PULLING THE TRAILER AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE TRAILER SWAYED LEFT, RIGHT, AND BOUNCED UP AND DOWN. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE TRAILER WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS NOT ABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FOREST RIVER SHASTA AIR FLIGHT. THE CONTACT OBSERVED THAT THE SUSPENSION OF THE VEHICLE WAS LOW. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE WAS LESS THAN ONE INCH FROM BOTH OF THE SIDE TIRES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE DEALER REACHED OUT TO THE FOR MANUFACTURER FOR GUIDANCE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE SOLUTION FOR THIS FAILURE WAS TO PLACE BANANA SHAPED SHACKLES TO ADD CLEARANCE SPACE FROM THE TIRES AND WHEEL WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE REMEDY PROPOSED BY THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT SUFFICE TO DETER THE ISSUE. AFTER THE CONTACT RECEIVED THE VEHICLE BACK, SHE TEST DROVE IT FOR FOUR HOURS AND NOTICED THAT THE TIRES STILL SCRAPED ALONG THE WHEEL WELLS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT ALSO NOTED THAT THE CAMPER WAS ONLY EQUIPPED WITH ONE AXLE AND THE MANUFACTURER FACTORY EQUIPPED PASSENGER TIRES ON THE VEHICLE AND NOT THE STANDARD TRAILER TIRES. THE CONTACT ALSO NOTED THAT THE LEAF SPRING WAS FLAT AND ALREADY SHOWED SIGNS OF CORROSION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 300.

I HAVE A SHASTA AIRFLYTE REISSUE. THE MANUFACTURE PUT PASSENGER TIRES ON IT P225/75R15. THEY ARE TO HAVE 35 PSI. THE STICKER SAYS GVW IS 3635 LBS. EACH TIRE SAYS MAX LOAD 1874 LBS. THE WHEELS SAY MAX LOAD EACH 1820 LBS. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT IT IS NOT SAFE TO RUN PASSENGER TIRES ON AN ENCLOSED TRAILER, CAMPER. A TRAILER NEEDS TIRES WITH A STRONGER SIDE WALL AND BE ABLE TO INFLATE TO 65 PSI. I ALSO UNDERSTAND THAT THE TIRES AND WHEELS SHOULD BE RATED AT 20% MORE THAN GVW. THE WHEELS ARE ALSO OFFSET TO WHERE THE INSIDE CLEARANCE IN THE WHEEL WELL IS ONLY ABOUT 1". A TRAILER WHEEL SHOULD BE CENTERED ON THE HUB, NOT OFFSET. THE WHEELS SHOULD BE ABLE TO ACCOMADATE A TRAILER TIRE AND 65 PSI.

SHASTA MODEL 2015 AIRFLYTE 16 RE-ISSUE INADEQUATE LOAD CARRYING CAPACITY FOR DRY WEIGHT. VEHICLE SUSPENSION (LEAF SPRINGS) NOT ENGINEERED TO CARRY THE LOAD. THIS TRAVEL TRAILER WAS ONLY PULLED FROM THE SELLING DEALER IN JACKSONVILLE, FL TO MY HOUSE APPROXIMATELY 350 MILES AWAY. TIRE TREAD MARKS WERE NOTED ON THE UPPER INSIDE OF THE WHEEL WELLS WHERE THERE HAD BEEN OBVIOUS CONTACT DURING NORMAL (UNLOADED / AS DELIVERED WEIGHT) TRANSPORT ON WELL MAINTAINED ROADS. SHASTA (MANUFACTURER) AT FIRST DID NOT EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM SO I REPLACED SPRINGS AT MY OWN EXPENSE. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN ANY FORMAL RECALL TYPE INFORMATION ISSUED BY SHASTA NOTIFYING ME OF THIS ISSUE BUT THERE IS A "RUMOR" THEY HAVE A FIX IN THE FORM OF LONGER SHACKLES.

I AM WRITING THIS AS A OWNER OF A 2015 SHASTA AIRFLITE. SINCE TAKING DELIVERY OF THE TRAILER IN NOVEMBER OF 2014 THERE HAS HAD CONTINUOUS SWAYING WHILE TOWING. I HAVE FOUND THAT FOREST RIVER HAS INSTALLED COKER BRAND PASSENGER TIRES 225R/15. THERE IS LESS THAN ONE INCH OF CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE TOP OF THE TIRES AND THE WHEEL WELL. THIS IS CAUSING RUBBING OF TIRES TO THE WHEEL WELLS. THE LEAF SPRINGS ARE NOT ADEQUATE FOR THE WEIGHT THE TRAILER. THESE SPRINGS ARE SHOWING SIGNS OF FLATTENING. ALSO THE TIRES WEIGHT RATING IS MUCH LESS THAN THE 3750# GVW. THANK YOU FOR LOOKING INTO THIS MATTER. *TR

THIS IS AN FR TRAVEL TRAILER WHICH HAS COKER PASSENGER TIRES ON IT INSTEAD OF COKER TRAILER TIRES OR OTHER BRAND OF TRAILER TIRE. THE TIRES HAVE INADEQUATE CLEARANCE AND AS A RESULT ARE RUBBING INSIDE THE WHEEL WELL BOTHER LATERALLY AND VERTICALLY. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN FOR WHICH SHASTA (FR SUBSIDIARY) HAS OFFERED A CHEAP FIX (SHACKLE ATTACHMENT TO SPRING). TIRE SIZE = ST225/75R15D DESIGNED FOR PASSENGER CARS. THE SUSPENSION ON THIS CAMPER CONSISTS OF CHEAP CHINESE 4 LEAF SPRINGS WHICH FLATTEN OUT AFTER ONLY A FEW MILES DRIVEN. THE STICKERS ON THE SIDE OF THE CAMPER INFORMS THE OWNER TO INFLATE THE COKER TIRE TO 65 PSI EVEN THOUGH THE TIRE ITSELF INDICATES ONLY 35PSI MAXIMUM INFLATION. I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN WHICH FOREST RIVER IS NOT TAKING SERIOUSLY. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON ALL 1,941 UNITS BUILT BASED ON THE VERY REAL POSSIBILITY OF THE TIRES RUBBING THEN CAUSING A BLOWOUT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THIS WAS A LIMITED EDITION RUN TO CELEBRATE THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF SHASTA (NOW OWNED BY FOREST RIVER). IN ADDITION TO THE WHEEL WELL CLEARANCE ISSUE, THERE IS ALSO THE MATTER OF THE WINDOWS FALLING OUT. I HAVE HAD TWO WINDOWS REPLACED ALREADY LESS THAN 6 MONTHS INTO OWNERSHIP OF THE CAMPER. MANUFACTURER IS HEHR AND THE ADHESIVE ON THE WINDOWS WAS EITHER A. NOT PREPPED ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTURER SPECS OR B. INSTALLED INCORRECTLY. EITHER WAY THIS POSES A SECOND VERY SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN AS THE WINDOWS COULD (AND HAVE ON OTHER UNITS) FALLEN OUT ON THE ROAD.

THIS COMPLAINT CONCERNS THE 2015 SHASTA AIRFLYTE 1961 REISSUE TRAVEL TRAILER. THE MANUFACTURER SUPPLIED AUTO PASSENGER TIRES (COKER CLASSIC, P225/75R15) WITH THIS TRAVEL TRAILER, NOT STURDIER, MORE APPROPRIATE "TRAILER TIRES." WHILE THE SUPPLIED TIRES ARE ADEQUATE TO SUPPORT THE GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT, THEY ARE NOT DESIGNED FOR THE STRESSES ASSOCIATED WITH TOWING AND ARE LIKELY TO FAIL IN TIME. IN ADDITION, THE TRAVEL TRAILER INCLUDES INSTRUCTION TO INFLATE THE TIRES TO 65 PSI, WHILE THE INFORMATION ON THE TIRES INDICATES 35 PSI AS THE MAXIMUM ALLOWED INFLATION. NUMEROUS TIRE EXPERTS WERE CONSULTED AND ALL RECOMMENDED THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS PARTICULAR UNIT AND REPLACE SUPPLIED TIRES WITH ADEQUATE TRAILER TIRES. SEVERAL STATED THEY WERE PROHIBITED FROM INSTALLING AUTO PASSENGER TIRES ON TRAVEL TRAILERS, EITHER BY COMPANY POLICY OR STATE/LOCAL LAWS.

BOTH WHEELS ARE TOO CLOSE TO WHEEL WELL CAUSING RUBBING. ALSO FEEL ADEQUATE TRAILER TIRES SHOULD HAVE BEEN INSTALLED RATHER THAN PASSENGER TIRES.
