I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND THE STABILITRAK TURNED ITSELF OFF AND A WARNING LIGHT CAME ON SAYING IT WAS OFF AND TO SERVICE IT. I TRIED TO PUSH THE BUTTON AND IT DID NOTHING AND THEN IT CLEARED ITSELF AND TURNED BACK ON WITHOUT ANY PROMPT AND WHEN SLOWING DOWN AND PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES AND THE WHOLE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CAR SHAKES.

AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS FAULTY AND DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WAS REQUIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
STEERING GETS STIFF INTERMITTENTLY. STEERING GLITCHES (HARD TO TURN) AT TIMES IN THE MIDDLE OF TURNING. HAPPENS IN MOTION TAKING TURNS ON SURFACE STREETS AND HIGHWAYS CHANGING LANES AND TAKING CORNERS. IT HAS NOW HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES.

I JUST RECENTLY PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE AND THE SECOND DAY OF HAVING IT ME AND MY HUSBAND WERE DRIVING HOME AN THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED TO TURN ONTO ANOTHER ROAD AS WE FINALLY GOT THE STEERING WHEEL TO TURN THE POWER STEERING KICKED IN AN WAS MUCH EASIER TO TURN AGAIN THIS HAPPENED FOR THE REST OF THE DAY AND WAS ONLY HAPPENING WHEN WE WOULD TURN FROM A COMPLETE STOP OR WHEN WE WOULD SLOW DOWN TO STOP. I HAVE HERD THIS WAS IN A GM BULLETIN BUT AM I STILL COVERED UNDER THE BULLETIN WE PURCHASED VEHICLE MARCH 1,2019 AN THE INCIDENT HAPPENED MARCH 2, 2019 WE HAVE OUR CHILDREN WITH US AS WELL AN IF MY HUSBAND HADN'T GRABBED THE WHEEL WITH BOTH HANDS WE WOULD HAVE WENT UNTO ON COMING TRAFFIC. THIS IS NOT SAFE ESPICALLY FOR FAMLIES WITH CHILDREN . PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT WILL BE DONE ABOUT THIS UNSAFE DEFAULT.

MY GIRLFRIEND'S VEHICLE POWER STEERING STIFFENED UP IN A TURN AND THEN CAME BACK DURING THE AND CAUSED HER TO OVER CORRECT AND END UP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IF SHE WAS GOING ANY FASTER THE PROBLEM COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE. THE VEHICLE DOES THIS EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE POWER STEERING WORKS AND THEN DOESNT AT RANDOM TIMES.
THE LIGHTS ARE GOING IN AND OUT, AND THE HIGH BEAMS AS WELL AS THE TAILLIGHTS ARE DOING THE SAME. I WAS TOLD THERE IS A SHORT IN THE SYSTEM. THE STEERING SYSTEM IS MAKING A VERY LOUD NOISE ANY TIME THE STEERING WHEEL IS MOVED. THE STABILITY LIGHTS AS WELL AS OTHERS KEEP COMING ON AND OFF BUT WHEN CHECKED SHOWS NOTHING IS WRONG.

I WAS ON A ROAD TRIP AND HALF WAY THROUGH THE TRIP WHILE ON THE FREEWAY THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT . I BARELY HAD CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE ALMOST CRASH INTO THE WALL. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE AND IT WAS A SUNDAY SO I HAD TO DRIVE BACK HOME 3 HOURS WITH NO POWER STEERING.

TAKATA RECALL- I PURCHASED A 2008 GMC AWD ACADIA ABOUT A YEAR AGO. WHILE TEST DRIVING THE VEHICLE I NOTICED A WHINY SOUND THAT I INFORMED THE DEALER ABOUT UPON RETURN. THE DEALER CHECKED IT OUT AND TOLD ME IT JUST NEED POWER STEERING FLUID. SO HE FILLED THE FLUIDS AND I HEARD NOTHING FOR A MONTH OR SO. I TOOK THE TRUCK BACK FOR MISC. REPAIRS TWO OTHER TIMES AFTER THAT REGARDING SOUNDS THAT I WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. AFTER THAT THINGS SEEMED FINE FOR A FEW MONTHS OR SO. EARLY SEPTEMBER, THE TRUCK SLOWED DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY. THE DASH WAS READING 60MPH BUT I WAS REALLY GOING 30MPH. THEN WHILE EXITING TO TURN OFF THE HIGHWAY THE POWER STEERING BEGAN ACTING UP AND WAS EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN. I ALMOST RAN INTO THE WALL NOT PREPARED TO USE SUCH FORCE. AUGUST 29TH I WENT TO JIFFY LUBE AND HAD THE FLUIDS TOPPED OFF AND POWER STEERING FLUID WAS FULL. I PUT THE TRUCK IN THE SHOP FOR A FULL DIAGNOSTIC AFTER THE BATTERY WENT COMPLETELY DEAD AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START IN OCTOBER. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE POWER STEERING RACK NEEDING REPLACING AND THE FAULTY SUN ROOF HAD FLOODED THE ENTIRE VEHICLE WITH 1 1/2 INCHES OF WATER. THE BATTERY DIED BECAUSE THE PORT WAS FILLED WITH WATER. FROM THE BEGINNING OF SEPTEMBER, WHEN THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT, THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY BEEN DRIVEN VERY SHORT DISTANCES (TO THE GAS STATION ON THE CORNER, LESS THAN A MILE). I CALLED A GM DEALER TO CHECK FOR RECALLS AND THERE ARE NONE WHICH IS SAD AND A TOTAL RIP OFF.

2008 GMC ACADIA WITH INTERMITTENT LOSS OF POWER STEERING, I HAVE 112,396 MILES AND MY SUV AS WELL AS A LOT OF OTHERS PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET HAVE LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING. THIS WAS A SPECIAL COVERAGE AND THIS IS STILL HAPPING TO PEOPLE IN THESE VEHICLE BECAUSE THEY PUT A TIME FRAME ON WHEN THEY WOULD COVER THE VEHICLE ISSUES. THIS ISSUE COULD CAUSE THE DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL AND CRASH WHEN THIS ISSUE HAPPENS. I HAVE GOT AHOLD OF GM MOTORS AND THEY SAID I AM OUT OF THE TIME FRAME AND THEY WON'T COVER IT. PLEASE HELP ME OUT AND SEE ABOUT A RECALL SO PEOPLE WON'T GET INJURED OR POSSIBLE KILLED OVER THIS ISSUE THAT THEY KNOW ABOUT. THE ISSUE LOCKS THE STEERING WHEEL AND WON'T ALLOW YOU TO TURN IT LEFT OR RIGHT. UNTIL YOU SLOW DOWN ENOUGH TO TURN IT.

THIS CAR CAME WITH A 30 DAY AND/OR 1000 MILES WARRANTY. WITHIN A WEEK PASS THE WARRANTY IT STARTED. THE RADIO ILLUMINATION STARTED TO GO OUT WE WOULD HAVE TO TAP ON IT TO GET IT TO TURN ON SO WE COULD SEE THE TIME ETC. THEN IT WOULD NOT COME BACK ON AT ALL AND ALL CHIMES WENT AWAY., STOPPED WORKING ALTOGETHER. NO TURN SINGLE INDICATOR, SEAT BELTS, BACK UP WARNING, DOOR AJAR ETC. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG INDICATOR WOULD SAY NO ONE WHEN SOMEONE WAS SITTING IN IT AND WHILE DRIVING BLINK BETWEEN THE TWO. ALSO AIR BAG NEEDS MAINTANCE INDICTOR IN DASH WILL FLASH WHILE DRIVING. PARK ASSISTANT ON AND OFF WILL FLASH WHILE DRIVING. THE STEERING WILL MOVE IN ITSELF WHILE DRIVING AND AROUND BENDS/TURNS IN THE ROAD AND WORSENING ON HIGHWAY! TO THE POINT I DO NOT TAKE MY CHILDREN ON. THERE IS ALSO A FAINT BURN SMELL AROUND FRONT FLOOR.I DECIDED TO TAKE IT TO THE LOCAL ADVANCED AUTO PARTS STORE AND HAVE THEM HOOK IT UP TO SEE WHY I LOST MY RADIO, STEERING ETC. THEY TELL ME THAT IT WAS A DEAD BATTERY CELL AND THAT MY BATTERY IS LOCATED IN THE FLOOR OF THIS VEHICLE BEHIND THE PASSENGER SEAT. BY THE WAY THIS VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE A SUNROOF ALL THE WINDOWS GO UP TIGHT AS WELL. I CALLED MY MECHANIC WHO I'VE KNOWN FOR YEARS MY FAMILY HAS WENT TO HIM AS WELL AND ASKED HIM TO ASSIST ME IN THE BATTERY ISSUE. SO WE GET THERE HE OPENS THE FLOOR BEHIND MY SEAT AND WE DISCOVERED THE BATTERY IS UNDERWATER DARK SLUDGY WATER! THE BATTERY IS REPLACED AFTER A VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND DISRESPECTFUL EXPERIENCE WITH THIS PARTICULAR ESTABLISHMENT BY NOW I AM AT MY WITS END. I'VE EXHAUSTED ALL EFFORTS WITH THEM! I PAID TO HAVE A GMC CERTIFIED MECHANIC RUN DIAGNOSTIC ON THESE ISSUES AT HAND AND TO MY THINKING THEY DETERMINED TO BE FLOOD AND/OR WATER DAMAGE AND WOULD NEED FURTHER DIAGNOSTICS. HOWEVER PUZZLING THE VIN IS CLEAN AND NO RECENT OR ACTIVE RECALLS. I AM BARELY INTO THIS CONTRACT 3 MONTHS!
MY STEERING IN MY 2008 GMC ACADIA SEEMS TO LOCK UP INTERMITTENTLY. THERE DOESN'T SEEM TO BE A RHYME OR REASON WHY THIS HAPPENS AND I CANNOT PREDICT WHEN IT HAPPENS. POWER STEERING FLUID IS FULL AND NOT LEAKING. WAS TOLD THE POWER STEERING IS NOT "GONE" BUT IT IS VERY HARD TO TURN THE VEHICLE WHEN THIS HAPPENS. I FEEL UNSAFE CONSIDERING I TRAVEL WITH MULTIPLE KIDS ALL THE TIME. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING I CAN AFFORD TO GO OUT ON MY VEHICLE AT THIS TIME. DUE TO THE OTHER COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ I FEEL THIS IS A RECALL ISSUE AND IT SHOULD BE DEEMED SO IMMEDIATELY BY THE MANUFACTURER.

WHEN I TRIED TO ACCELERATE IT DID NOTHING ! THE SPEED WOULDN'T INCREASE AT ALL THEN IT STARTED RUNNING FINE AND THEN A FEW MILES DOWN THE ROAD IT DID THE SAME THING, DROPPED SPEED FROM 60 TO 10-20 MPH! I PULLED OVER AND SHUT THE CAR OFF AND WHEN I RESTARTED IT THE SAME LIGHTS WERE ON AND WHEN I TRIED PULLING AWAY IT WOULD ONLY GO UP TO 10-20 MPH FOR A FEW MILES THEN IT GOT UP TO 60 MPH FOR A FEW MILES JUST TO DROP AGAIN! I HAD MY 11 MONTH OLD GRANDSON IN THE CAR THAT WAS DANGEROUS! I WAS ON TOWNLINE ROAD AND MANITO BLACKTOP THAT ARE VERY HIGH TRAFFIC

I AM EXPERIENCING STEER LOSS WHEN AT LOW SPEEDS WHICH INVOLVE TURNING STREET CORNERS, PULLING AND OUT OF PARKING LOT SPACES AND ANY OTHER TIME A 90 DEGREE TURN IS REQUIRED (MOST OFTEN IN ANY CITY TRAVEL). THE STEERING BECOMES SO TIGHT IN THESE CIRCUMSTANCES THAT WIDER TURNS ARE REQUIRED WHEN STEERING WHEEL WON'T ENGAGE TO ASSIST. AT STREET CORNERS, THIS MEANS WIDER TURNS WHERE ATTENTION TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC IS DANGEROUS. IN PARKING LOTS, THE ABILITY TO PULL INTO A SPACE IS IMPOSSIBLE WITHOUT 3-4 POINT TURNS TO MOVE FORWARD AND BACKWARDS. THIS TOO CAN BLOCK ONCOMING VEHICLES AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, AVOID CONTACT WITH THOSE PARKED IN THE ADJACENT SPACES. THE WHEEL CAN BE IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN AND FREEZE ON YOU WHEN YOU ARE NOT APPLYING THE GAS AND YOU DON'T WANT TO APPLY THE GAS WHEN YOUR TURN IS ALREADY TOO WIDE FOR A STREET CORNER TURN AND TRAFFIC IS COMING YOUR WAY OR YOU ARE TRYING TO AVOID PARKED CARS NEXT YOU WHEN PULLING IN OR OUT OF PARKING SPACES. BOTH STRAIGHT ON PARKING AND VERTICAL PARKING IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO MANEUVER IN. MY VEHICLE HAS 119,200 MILES. I NOTICED MY STEERING GETTING STIFFER ON RARE OCCASIONS AT 88,000 MILES BUT I WAS ALWAYS ABLE TO MAKE MY TURNS PROPERLY. I DO A LOT OF HIGHWAY TRAVEL NOW SO MY MILES HAVE ADDED UP QUICKLY IN THE LAST YEAR AND A HALF. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. MY FIRST WAS AT 67,000 WHEN THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT. PRIOR TO THAT, THE ENTIRE BACK AXLE HAD TO BE REPLACED (UNDER WARRANTY). SINCE THEN, THE THROTTLE BODY AT 84,000 MILES. RECALLS OF SEVERAL GM VEHICLES HAVE BEEN MADE FOR THE POWER STEERING AND THE RACK AND PINION BUT THE 2008 ACADIA IS NOT LISTED. THESE STEERING ISSUES ARE NOT "ONE-OFF" SITUATIONS PER VEHICLE BUT RATHER ENTIRE POPULATIONS OF OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE WITH A COMMON PROBLEM - POWER STEERING NOT WORKING PROPERLY AT SEVERAL INTERVALS OF MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE!

HAD NEVER BEEN NOTIFIED THIS VEHICLE HAD DEFECTIVE PARTS THAT COULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED UNDER A WARRANTY EXTENSION. MY HUSBAND TRAVELS FOR A LIVING IN HIS VEHICLE SO HE PUTS A LOT OF MILES ON IT AND WHEN IT FIRST HAPPENED HE HAD 178,085 MILES AND WE HAD TO REPLACE A POWER STEERING PUMP. NOW AT 184,624 MILES WE ARE PUTTING OUR SECOND POWER STEERING PUMP AND FINDING OUT THAT NOW THE GEAR WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. DON'T KNOW WHY WE WERE NOT NOTIFIED NOT TO MENTION THIS VEHICLE IS A DEATH TRAP AND MY HUSBAND OR SOMEONE ELSE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED BY THIS HAPPENING. NOW I LOOK ONLINE AND THERE ARE HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. WHY WAS A RECALL NOT DONE ON THIS? AS I WAS TURNING INTO A PLACE OF BUSINESS MY STEERING LOCKED UP AGAIN. BOTH TIMES WE WERE ABLE TO GET THE CAR PULLED IN AND WHEN WE SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT THE STEERING BEGAN TO WORK? THIS CAR HAD NEW TRANSMISSION AND ENGINE IN 2014. STILL HAVE WARRANTY ON MY ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION THROUGH THE DEALERSHIP.

THE DRIVER WAS NOT INJURED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,155. LET CAR SIT FOR 20 MINUTES AND IT STARTED UP AND DROVE FINE FOR A WEEK OR SO THEN THE SAME ISSUE OCCURRED AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES WITHIN 5 WEEKS. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN INTO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND TWO DEALERSHIPS. WE HAVE REQUESTED AN ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER TO BE ORDERED FROM AUTONATION GMC PARK MEADOWS (CO) BUT HAVE RECEIVED NO RESPONSE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY AND INTERSTATE SPEEDS. HAVE RESEARCHED OTHER CONSUMERS WITH THE SAME SITUATION ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE.

I NOTICED THAT WHEN DRIVING ON AN EXPRESSWAY AND WOULD ATTEMPT TO PASS A SLOWER MOVING VEHICLE, AS I WOULD MOVE INTO THE PASSING LANE AND ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATE, THE CAR WOULD HESITATE FOR A FEW SECONDS, LOSE SPEED, THEN SUDDENLY DOWNSHIFT AND ACCELERATE AT AN UNEXPECTED RATE. I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE CAR WOULD UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATE OR DECELERATE UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR, THEY RESPONDED THAT THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG, BUT THE WHAT I WAS EXPERIENCING WAS CHARACTERISTIC OF THE 6-SPEED TRANSMISSION ON THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM CONTINUED AND I FOUND IT DANGEROUS. I RETURNED THE VEHICLE AND THE DEALER'S REMEDY WAS TO "RESET THE TRANSMISSION COMPUTER." DURING THIS TIME, I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE "SERVICE STABILITRAC AND TRACTION CONTROL" WARNING WOULD COME ON. IT DOSEN'T MATTER IF YOUR DRIVING OR IDLE OR IN PARK THESE WARNINGS AND PROBLEMS STILL EXIST.THE DEALER FIXED ONE WHEEL SENSOR BUT THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURS. THE SERVICE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHTS STILL COMES ON THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THAT I HAD IT FIXED BUT WARNING STILL COMES ON. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD SO MANY RECALLS AUTOMATIC LIFT GATE, AIR BAG WARNINGS, POWER STEERING PUMP AND HOSE. THEY SAID IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH ACADIA, TRAVERSE, OUTLOOK, AND ENCLAVE. THEY SAID IT NEEDED POWER STEERING PUMP, RESERVOIR AND STEERING RACK, ABOUT 1,100 DOLLARS TO FIX. THEY SAID GM HAD EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 120,000 AND MY VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED. 152,000 ACTUAL MILES. I GOOGLED THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND OUT JUST HOW COMMON IT IS, AND THAT THE WARRANTY COVERAGE ACTUALLY WAS TO 150,225 MILES. I CALLED THE GMC CUSTOMER ENGAGEMENT CENTER AFTER STEWING OVER THIS FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS. THEY SAID THAT SINCE I WAS BEYOND THE ALLOWED MILEAGE, THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I WAS TALKING WITH MY BOSS ABOUT THIS. HE HAS A 2009 ENCLAVE WITH 60K MILES. HE IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH STEERING, AND DEALER TOLD HIM IT WAS NOT COVERED. I SHOWED HIM WHAT I HAD FOUND. HE IS GOING BACK TO THE DEALER WITH DOCUMENTATION. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WHEN STEERING IS ENTIRELY MANUAL AT LOW ENGINE SPEED FOR INSTANCE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT OR DRIVE. EVEN TURNING A CORNER WHEN NOT ACCELERATING. PARALLEL PARKING IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE. GM SHOULD HAVE RECALLED THESE VEHICLES. I AM GOING TO HAVE TO PAY TO GET THIS FIXED. GM HAS JUST LOST A CUSTOMER.

COLLECTIVELY, I FIND THESE EVENTS, THE MECHANICAL FAILURES AND THE FACT THAT THE BURDEN FOR THESE FAILURES AND EVENTS ARE BEING PLACED ON THE CUSTOMER AS BEING ABSURD AND EGREGIOUS. GM WAS INITIALLY ONLY WILLING TO FIX THE POWER STEERING PUMP, NOT THE POWER STEERING COOLING LINE AND POWER STEERING GEAR. AFTER COMPLAINING AND QUESTIONING, THE DEALERSHIP WAS ABLE TO GET THE COST DOWN, BUT GM WOULD NOT COVER THE COST ENTIRELY TO MAKE MY VEHICLE DRIVABLE AGAIN. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND THEY HAVE ADMITTED TO IT BEING A PROBLEM, YET THEY AREN'T WILLING TO FOOT THE BILL TO FIX IT BACK TO THE CONDITION IT WAS PRIOR TO THIS ISSUE. WHILE THEY OFFERED ME A MUCH BETTER PRICE TO FIX IT, THEY SHOULD FIX IT AT NO COST TO ME. THE WORDING IN THE SPECIAL STATEMENT WAS "STEERING PUMP WEAR" AND "SUDDEN LOSS OF HYDROLIC PRESSURE." BOTH OF WHICH WOULD LEAD ME TO BELIEVE THE WORD LEAK SHOULD BE COVERED AS WELL. WEAR TO ME MEAN THINGS BEING LESS THAN PERFECT AND SUDDEN LOSS OF PRESSURE MEANS LEAK. INEXCUSABLE FOR GM TO WEASEL OUT OF FIXING THIS ISSUE COMPLETELY.

THE STEERING WHEEL IN OUR CAR HAD BECOME INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT TO TURN, ESPECIALLY AT LOW SPEEDS (PARKING, IN PARTICULAR INITIALLY). WE TOOK THE VEHICLE IN A COUPLE OF TIMES AND THE MECHANIC TRIED SEVERAL REPAIRS SUCH AS REPLACING THE POWER STEERING FLUID AS WELL AS LOOKING FOR LEAKS IN THE POWER STEERING. (NONE WERE FOUND). THE CAR WOULD DRIVE BETTER AFTER BEING SERVICED, BUT WITHIN A COUPLE OF DAYS/WEEKS BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE THE SAME ISSUES. FINALLY IT GOT SO BAD THAT WE COULD BARELY TURN THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING AND THE CAR COULD NO LONGER BE DRIVEN. WE RETURNED IT TO THE MECHANIC WHO DISCOVERED THAT THE STEERING RACK WAS COMPLETELY DAMAGED BECAUSE THE STEERING PUMP WAS BAD AND HAD NOT BEEN SENDING FLUID TO THE RACK. WE HAD BOTH REPLACED AT THAT TIME (APRIL, 2014). WE RECEIVED NOTIFICATION IN SEPTEMBER 2014 THAT GMC ISSUED A RECALL ON THE POWER STEERING PUMP AS IT WAS CAUSING "AN INTERMITTENT DROP OF POWER STEERING HYDRAULIC PRESSURE THAT WILL CAUSE REDUCED OR LOSS OF STEERING ASSIST." WE HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH GMC SINCE THAT TIME ABOUT BEING REIMBURSED FOR BOTH THE PUMP AND THE RACK SINCE THE TWO ARE CLEARLY RELATED AND THEY INFORMED US THAT ONLY THE PUMP WAS COVERED (BECAUSE THAT'S ALL THEY RECALLED) DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE PUMP IS WHAT CAUSED THE DAMAGE TO THE RACK AND THE RACK IS WHAT MADE OUR CAR UN-DRIVABLE. THE STEERING RACK SHOULD ALSO BE ON A RECALL LIST SINCE DAMAGE TO IT IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. I THOUGHT IT WAS MY BRAKE LINE AND I TOOK IT INTO THE SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE STRUTS WERE BAD AND NEEDED REPLACING. AT THAT TIME THERE WAS AROUND 36,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. I HAD THEM CHANGED OUT AND THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THEY WERE THE WORST HE HAD EVER SEEN. AFTER THE REPAIR, THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN THE SAME. IT'S NOT NEAR AS SMOOTH AS IT WAS AND IT MAKES NOISE. I HAD IT CHECKED TO BE SURE THEY WERE INSTALLED PROPERLY AND THEY WERE. THE WHOLE PROCESS COST ME ABOUT $900.00 THE NEXT ISSUE I HAVE HAD IS MORE SEVER. THIS JUST HAPPENED A FEW MONTHS AGO. WE WERE OUT IN SOUTH DAKOTA 200 MILES FROM HOME. WE WERE DRIVING THE ACADIA AND THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO SLIP. WE DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING OF IT AT FIRST. WE DROVE THE ACADIA HOME AND SCHEDULED TO HAVE THE CAR LOOKED AT. ON THE MONDAY AFTER WE GOT HOME, I WAS DRIVING MY KIDS TO SCHOOL WHEN SUDDENLY THE CAR WENT COMPLETELY OUT OF GEAR AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TRIED PUTTING IT INTO PARK AND THEN BACK INTO GEAR AND HAD NO LUCK IN GETTING IT TO GO INTO GEAR. I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND STARTED IT AGAIN AND IT DID GO INTO GEAR. I DROPPED MY KIDS OFF AT SCHOOL AND WHEN IN PARK IT WENT OUT OF GEAR AGAIN. I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND ON AGAIN AND GOT IT TO GO INTO GEAR. DROVE IT DIRECTLY TO THE AUTO SHOP. THEY RAN THE CODES. THEY SAID IT WAS A 3/5 WAVE PLATE ISSUE. HAD TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT. 2200 FOR THE REBUILD. READING ONLINE THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH VEHICLES. TALKED TO THE TRANSMISSION SHOP AND THEY SAID THEY WERE REBUILDING 8 OF THESE A WEEK FROM THE SATURN, BUICK, CHEVY AND ACADIAS WITH THE 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION. THEY SAID THE WAVE PLATE WASN'T HEAT TREATED AT THE FACTORY OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. IT GETS HEATED AND DETERIORATES. GM WOULD DO NOTHING TO HELP. HOPEFULLY, YOU GUYS CAN. *TR

WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TURN INTO A PARKING SPOT AT A SHOPPING CENTER, I LOST POWER STEERING COMPLETELY. I WAS ABLE TO MAN HANDLE THE VEHICLE INTO A PARKING AREA THAT WAS SPARSELY OCCUPIED AND DID NOT HIT ANYTHING. IF I HAD BEEN IN A DIFFERENT AREA OF THE PARKING LOT, THERE WERE A LOT OF PEDESTRIANS, PUSHING STROLLERS AND MOST HAD CHILDREN WITH THEM. I COULD HAVE HIT SEVERAL OF THEM AND HAD NO CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE. I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC AND HE SAID THAT THE RACK AND PINION NEEDED REPLACING. I HAVE NOW RECEIVED A BULLETIN FROM GMC ADVISING THAT IF I HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH STEERING, I SHOULD TAKE IT TO MY CLOSEST DEALER FOR THEM TO RUN A DIAGNOSTIC. HOWEVER, IF THE DIAGNOSTIC DIDN'T SHOW SPECIFICALLY THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE POWER STEERING PUMP, THEN I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF THE DIAGNOSTIC PLUS ANY REPAIRS NEEDED. MY MECHANIC HAS ADVISED ME THAT THE PUMP IS FINE, BUT THE RACK AND PINION NEEDS REPLACING SINCE THE SEALS OR CYLINDERS HAVE BEEN LEAKING. I HAD TO ADD POWER STEERING FLUID AT ABOUT 23K MILES, BUT THE DEALER STATED IT WAS PROBABLY JUST NOT FILLED UP WHEN IT WAS OFF THE FACTORY LINE. SO, I HAVE TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE AT THE MECHANIC UNTIL I CAN AFFORD TO HAVE IT REPAIRED SINCE I DON'T WANT TO DRIVE IT. I COULD HAVE KILLED SOMEONE DUE TO THIS POWER STEERING FAILURE. I TOOK IT BACK FOR A SECOND TIME, AND GM SAID THAT THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE POWER STEERING. THE POWER STEERING STOPS WORKING AND WHEN MAKING A TURN IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO MAKE THE TURN. NEXT, I TOOK MY ACADIA TO A INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE STEERING RACK, OR AS GM CALLS IT, THE RACK AND PINION WAS CRACKED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I THEN SPENT AROUND $800 TO HAVE THE STEERING RACK REPLACED. I BEGAN DRIVING IT HOPING THIS WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM BUT IT DID NOT FIX THE STEERING PROBLEM. I TOOK THE ACADIA BACK TO GM, AND THEY LOOKED AT IT AGAIN. THEY TOLD ME THE RACK AND PINION, OR THE STEERING RACK WAS FAULTY. I TOLD THEM ABOUT REPLACING IT 3 MONTHS AGO, AND THEY TOLD ME THAT UNLESS I HAD REPLACED BOTH THE STEERING RACK AND THE PUMP AT THE SAME TIME THEN THE PART THAT WAS NOT REPLACED WOULD CAUSE THE OTHER PART TO FAIL. NEXT, I TOOK IT BACK TO THE LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND TOLD THEM WHAT GM HAD SAID. THEY LOOKED AT THE STEERING RACK THAT THEY HAD REPLACED AND TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH THE NEW PART THEY HAD REPLACED. THEY LOOKED INTO THE MANUALS AND INTERNET REPLACEMENT GUIDES FOR GM PARTS AND COULD FIND NOTHING SAYING YOU HAD TO REPLACE BOTH PARTS OR THE ONE THAT WAS NOT REPLACED WOULD FAIL. THE POWER STEERING CONTINUES TO FAIL. IT SHOULD BE RECALLED.GM WILL DO NOTHING UNLESS I REPLACE BOTH PARTS. EVER SINCE I PUT MY CAR IN THE SHOP AT PEILTER CHEVROLET IN LUFKIN TEXAS I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT TROUBLE. THEY FIX A RECALL IN THE TIRE AREA ON MY CAR, AND I THINK IT WASN'T DONE RIGHT. I RESEARCHED GMC ACADIA AND I REALIZED THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAD THE SAME THING LIKE LIFTERS REPLACEMENT, TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT AT AROUND 90000 MILES TO 110000 MILES, PROBLEMS WITH THERE STRUTS AND SHOCKS. POWER STEERING AND MUCH MORE. WHAT I CANT FIGURE OUT IS WHY HASN'T THERE BEEN RECALL ON THE TRANSMISSION AND HEADS OR LIFTERS, IF EVERYBODY IS HAVING THIS MUCH TROUBLE OUT OF THESE PARTS ON THE 2008 ACADIA'S. THE CAT PROCEEDED INTO AND PARTIALLY UP A GRANITE STONE OUT CROPPING ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CAR THEN WENT AIR BORNE LANDING UP SIDE DOWN ON ITS ROOF IN THE MIDDLE OF ROUTE 89. I BELIEVE THAT THIS ACCIDENT HAPPENED DUE TO IGNITION SWITCH FAILURE WHICH IN TURN SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, POWER STEERING, AND THE ENTIRE AIR BAG SYSTEM WHICH IN THIS ACCIDENT FAIL TO DEPLOY. MY WIFE WAS AIR LIFTED TO NORTHERN ARIZONA MEDICAL CENTER IN FLAGSTAFF, AZ FOR SEVER HEAD INJURE FROM WHICH SHE HAS RECOVERED. IT IS MY BELIEF THAT THE IGNITION FAILURES THAT HAVE SHOWN UP ON OTHER GM CARS IS ALSO A PROBLEM FOR THE 2008 GMC ACADIA AND POSSIBLY OTHER LIKE MODELS OF GM VEHICLES. THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED AT LEAST THREE TIMES WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR, ALL FORTUNATELY WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING A LOW SPEEDS AND ABLE TO STOP BEFORE RUNNING OFF THE ROAD. THE GM DEALER IS TRYING TO TELL ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS PROBABLY OK AND THAT THE OVERHEATING IS DUE TO SOME OTHER REASON, BUT HE THEN COULDN'T EVEN GUESS AT WHAT THE OTHER REASONS MIGHT BE! I REALLY FEEL THIS IS AN UNSAFE CONDITION THAT NHTSA NEEDS TO LOOK INTO. THE DEALER WAS ALSO UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE OTHER FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. ABOUT A WEEK AGO MY FAMILY AND I WERE DRIVING HOME FROM VACATION AND HAD BEEN ON THE ROAD FOR ABOUT 3.5 HOURS. AS WE PULLED OUT OF A DRIVEWAY ABOUT 5 MINUTES FROM OUR HOME THE CAR ENGINE LIGHT CAME ONE, THE CAR WOULD NOT GAIN SPEED LIKE NORMAL AND IT BEGAN TO OVER HEAT RAPIDLY. WE TOOK SIDE ROADS AND SLOWLY CRAWLED HOME. I TOOK IT INTO THE SHOP THE NEXT DAY AND IT CAME BACK WITH A CRACK IN THE RADIATOR AND CODES P0700 AND P07016, WHICH THEY CONFIRMED TO BE A TRANSMISSION ISSUE AND SUGGESTED TO HAVE A SPECIALIST LOOK AT IT. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THIS ARE COMMON CODES THAT COME BACK FOR THE 2007 AND 2008 ACADIA'S THAT REQUIRE A REBUILD/REPLACED TRANSMISSION WITH AN AVERAGE COST OF $4000. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH GMC FOR MANY YEARS AND THEY HAVE YET TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT. I AM VERY LUCKY TO NOT HAVE HAD A WORSE INCIDENT IN DISCOVERING THIS ISSUE, BUT I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT AT ANY MOMENT THE TRANSMISSION WILL GO OUT, AND WE DO NOT HAVE $4000 TO DROP INTO A NEW ONE, ESPECIALLY WHEN I JUST SPENT $650 ON A NEW RADIATOR. THESE ARE NOT PROBLEMS THAT A RELIABLE CAR, THE 2008 ACADIA, UNDER 100,000 MILES SHOULD BE HAVING. AT 40,000 MILES WE HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKES; THE AIR CONDITIONER BACKED UP, WHICH REQUIRED MAINTENANCE TO THE BLOWER MOTOR; AND THE HEAD LIGHTS WENT OUT, WHICH REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. AT 45,000 MILES THE REAR STRUTS WENT OUT, WHICH REQUIRED REPLACEMENT; AND WE HAD TO REPLACE TWO TIRES. AT 60,000 MILES THE WATER PUMP WENT OUT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AT 55,000 MILES THE FRONT STRUTS WENT OUT, WHICH NEEDED REPLACING, ALONG WITH FOUR NEW TIRES, AND A NEW SET OF HEADLIGHTS. AT 60,000 MILES THE REAR BRAKES AND ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AT 70,000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT, WHICH ALSO REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. THE FINAL INCIDENT HAPPENED ON 6/10/13 AT 74,000 MILES, WHILE I WAS DRIVING WITH ALL THREE OF MY CHILDREN. I WAS GOING 50 MILES AN HOUR ON A HIGHWAY, AND THE ENTIRE CAR SHUT DOWN. THE STEERING CONSOLE LOCKED WITH THE KEYS IN THE IGNITION, I HAD NO ABILITY TO STEER THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKES DID NOT FUNCTION EITHER. I HAD TO USE THE PARKING BRAKE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN, BARELY AVOIDING A COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE.

I HAVE SINCE HAD THIS HAPPEN 4 MORE TIMES AND THE LAST TIME ALMOST ENDED IN A HEAD-ON COLLISION WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR. I HAD THE CAR TOWED AGAIN FOR THE 5TH TIME TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE POWER STEERING FINALLY WENT OUT ON THEM WHILE THEY WERE TEST DRIVING MY CAR. I WAS TOLD THE CLANKING NOISE WAS DUE TO A PROBLEM WITH THE RACK AND PINION. BOTH ARE DIRECTLY RELATED. I WAS TOLD THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE RACK AND PINION, BUT GMC WOULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM RIGHT NOW, IT WAS A PROBLEM THAT'S "ON HOLD." *TR

I WISH TO INFORM YOU OF A CRITICAL STEERING DEFECT IN THE 2008 GMC ACADIA. AT 42,000 MILES I NOTICES A DECLINE IN POWER STEERING FLUID. WHEN QUESTIONED GMC INFORM ME THAT IS WAS LOW DUE TO AIR POCKETS IN THE FLUID SYSTEM RELEASING OVER TIME THUS CAUSING VOLUME LOSS. AT 50,000 ALL THE POWER STEERING FLUID RAN OUT ON MY DRIVEWAY. IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY IT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN STEERING LOSS AND POTENTIAL HARM TO MYSELF , PASSENGERS, OR OTHER VEHICLES ON THE ROADWAY. WHEN NOTIFY GMC REQUESTED ME TO KEEP DRIVING THE VEHICLE OVER A WEEKEND (EVEN THOUGH IT PURGE ITSELF OF FLUID AS FAST AS IT WAS REFILLED) AND BRING IT IN FOR REPAIR ON MONDAY. GMC OF COURSE CHARGED ME $420 FOR THE SAID REPAIR. WHEN CONTACTED AGAIN (FOLLOWING THE REPAIR) GMC DISMISSED THE PROBLEM AND OFFERED ME AN OIL CHANGE FOR MY TROUBLES. THEY DID NOT TAKE THE PROBLEM SERIOUSLY NOR INTIMATED THAT THEY WOULD EVEN LOOK INTO THE CAUSE. NORMALLY I WOULD HAVE CONCLUDED "BAD PRODUCT" / "BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE" AND BE APPRECIATIVE THAT I DID NOT LOSE MY LIFE. THEN I SAW TOYOTA BEING GRILLED ON CAPITAL HILL AND SIMPLY COULD NOT UNDERSTAND WHY GMC WHO HAS A CRITICAL STEERING PROBLEM DID NOT HAVE TO STEP UP TO PROTECTING ITS CONSUMERS. WHY NO RECALL NOTICE, WHY ARE THEY ALLOW TO MINIMIZE/HIDE COMPLAINTS, WHERE IS CONGRESS CALLING THEM TO THE HILL? IF IN FACT TOYOTA IS BEING CALL TO TASK THEN IT IS TIME FOR US CONSUMER TO BE PROTECTED FROM OUR OWN INTRA-COUNTRY PROVIDERS. PLEASE LOOK INTO GMC STEERING PROBLEMS BEFORE SOMEONE DIES.
