The vehicle tire system lights came on the air bag sensor light Car did not fill safe driving no control on the road unstable on turns car was sold one lug muissing front tire ,returned car several times last time I took the vehicle was due to drivesrs back wheel wobbling so bad , Someone followeing said it looked like tire was coming off . the owner said it was fine , put it on the rack let me drive off , I drove it and it was very unstable to drive and took it to Nor cal Tires Ukiah Ca they informed me it was not safe to drive .

THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN LOOKED OVER BY MANY MECHANICAL PROFESSIONALS. AT SLOW RATES OF SPEED, INTERMITTENTLY THE STEERING WILL STIFFEN AND LOCK UP MAKING IT VERY SCARY WHEN DRIVING. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD OVER AND OVER THAT RACK N PINION AND PUMP ARE FINE. AFTER RESEARCHING, THIS LOOKS LIKE A TYPICAL ISSUE. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT GM CAN DO FOR THIS?
STEERING WHEEL MAKING A WHINING/RUBBING NOISE. FLUID LEAKING UNDER THE CAR. TOOK TO THE DEALER AND WAS FOUND TO HAVE TACK AND PINION IS BAD SPRAYING OUT POWER STEERING FLUID EVERYWHERE. WAS TOLD THAT THE STEERING WILL LOSE POWER AND BECOME EITHER HARD TO TURN OR NOT TURN AT ALL CAUSING DANGER TO OURSELVES AND OTHERS. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE THAT HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED BY GM.

DEC 2018 MY ACADIA WAS LEFT AT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF WHITMORE CHEVROLET IN WEST POINT VA 23181 FOR A DIAGNOSIS. MY VEHICLE RAN WHEN I LEFT IT THERE. OVER A MONTH LATER INCLUDING ILLEGAL ACTIVITY IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT I GET MY VEHICLE BACK AND IT IS DEAD. I WOULD START MY VEHICLE AND DRIVE AWAY SOMETIME STOPPING SOON OR RANDOMLY ON THE ROAD. THIS IS NOT JUST AN ISSUED WITH MY GMC MY SISTER HAS A 2011 ACADIA AND HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS FOR SURE NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AS THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH IT.

BOUGHT A 2009 GMC ACADIA IN FEBRUARY HAD IT FOR 2 WEEKS AND WAS PULLING OUT OF A FAST FOOD RESTAURANT GETTING MY 3 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER SOME FOOD AS I WAS PULLING OUT I LOST ALL POWER STEERING. I COULD NOT GET MY SUV TO TURN I BARELY BUMPED A CAR THANK GOODNESS IT DID NOT DO ANY DAMAGE AND NO ONE WAS INJURED BUT THIS IS DEFINITELY SOMETHING GM NEEDS TO FIX!! POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHEN RPMS ARE LOW. IN MY INCIDENT I WAS TRANSITIONING FROM ONE FREEWAY TO ANOTHER MAKING A RIGHT TURN ABOUT 40 MPH. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS TO TAKE THE TURN SLOWLY. AS MY RPM WENT DOWN MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT TURN RIGHT ANY MORE. THE WHEEL GOT STUCK IN THE LAST POSITION BEFORE I LET GO OF THE GAS. I HAD TO GIVE IT GAS TO MAKE THE VEHICLE POWER STEERING WORK AGAIN. MY CONCERN WITH THIS IS NOT THAT THE POWER STEERING FAILED BUT THAT STEERING IN GENERAL WAS LOCKING. I HAVE DRIVEN CARS WITH OUT POWER STEERING AND NEVER HAVE TO WORRY MY WHEEL WILL LOCK. THE DEALER SAYS I NEED A NEW POWER STEERING PUMP. BUT AGAIN IT SHOULD NOT LOCK MY TURN. I HAD TO GIVE IT GAS TO GET THE RPM UP AND THEN IT WOULD TURN. ONCE OF THE FREEWAY AT THE STOP LIGHT I TRIED TURNING THE WHEEL AND IT WOULD NOT TURN. ONCE I GAVE IT GAS WE WERE FINE. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT GETTING STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD TURNING. MY RESEARCH HAS FOUND MANY ISSUES WITH ACADIA STEERING PUMP. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUES THAT COULD OF CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT.
OUR 2009 GMC ACADIA WAS TAKEN TO GMC DEALERSHIP ON DECEMBER 2, 2016 WITH NOISES COMING FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHEN STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT, EITHER STANDING STILL OR MOVING. SERVICE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE STEERING GEAR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AND THE BILL WAS $1,466.00. THE ACADIA HAS 31,068 MILES ON IT, AND MY WIFE IS NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR FOR FEAR THE STEERING MAY GO OUT AGAIN. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN DUE TO THE FAILURE AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE WATER PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE PART. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES AND INDICATED THAT THEY ALSO HAD CAMPAIGNS THAT NEEDED TO BE ADDRESSED. THE TIMING CHAIN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST, AND THE TRANSMISSION CUTLET LEAVE PLATE FAILED. THERE WERE NO RECALLS. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.

APRIL 26, 2016 - MY WIFE WAS AT A GAS STATION AND SAID THE WHEELS ON THE GMC WERE VERY HARD TO TURN EITHER WAY. APRIL 28, 2016 - MY WIFE SAID THE NOISE WAS LOUDER SO I TEST DROVE IT AGAIN, THIS TIME, I EXPERIENCED A MOMENTARY LOSS OF STEERING POWER ON LOW SPEED. ONE TIME I OVERCOMPENSATED WHEN IT WAS HARD TO TURN THE WHEEL BUT AVOIDED HAVING AN ACCIDENT. I PERFORMED THE OWNER'S MANUAL CHECKS, POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL WAS GOOD. I THEN GOGGLED FOR MORE INFORMATION ONLINE ABOUT STEERING ISSUES AND HOW TO RESOLVE ON GMC 2009 ACADIA AND THEN I RAN INTO THE GMC SERVICE BULLETIN SB-10056459-3388 ONLINE. THE BULLETIN DESCRIBED THE INTERMITTENT POWER LOSS WE EXPERIENCED. THE CONDITION IS DESCRIBED AS FOLLOWS "VEHICLES MAY DEVELOP A POWER STEERING PUMP WEAR CONDITION THAT CAN CAUSE AN INTERMITTENT DROP OF POWER STEERING HYDRAULIC PRESSURE THAT WILL CAUSE REDUCED OR LOSS OF STEERING ASSIST. THE VEHICLE MAY REVERT TO MANUAL STEERING WHICH REQUIRES GREATER DRIVER EFFORT, PARTICULARLY AT LOW VEHICLE SPEEDS". I CALLED OUR LOCAL GM'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR AN EVALUATION BUT HAVE NOT RECEIVED A CALLBACK YET. I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE I BELIEVE, IF NOT RESOLVED, MAY TURN OUT TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE FOR US.

I AM NOW SEEING SEVERAL FORUMS WHERE OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THERE IS EVEN A PENDING LAWSUIT. THERE IS ALSO AN ISSUE WITH THE ELECTRIC WHERE THE SAFETY POWER LOCKS DO NOT WORK. MY SON HAS OPENED THE DOOR WHEN THE CAR WAS MOVING BECAUSE OF THIS. I HAVE HAD 5 RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE, SO IT'S HARD TO KEEP UP WITH ALL THE ISSUES.

WHEN I AM DRIVING AT A SLOW RATE OR SLOWING DOWN TO TURN SOMEWHERE THAT WHEN MY STEERING WHEEL WANTS TO GET STUCK. THEREFORE MOST DEFINITELY POSES A DANGER TO FAMILY WHEN THEY ARE IN THE VEHICLE TO MYSELF WHEN DRIVING AND TO OTHERS ON THE RODE. THIS IS MY FAMILY VEHICLE! I HAVE 3 DAUGHTERS AND 8 MONTH OLD TWIN BOYS IN THERE AND I FEEL UNSAFE DRIVING IT. BUT I DEFINITELY DO NOT HAVE THE FUNDS TO GET THESE PROBLEMS FIXED AND DEFINITELY DON'T FEEL IT IS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY FOR PROBLEMS THAT GM KNEW ABOUT FOR WHAT 3 YEARS NOW! THIS VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN ON THE GMC DELEARSHIP CAR LOT FOR SALE WITH THEM KNOWING OF THESE UNSAFE PROBLEMS. I BOUGHT THIS ACADIA 2-3 YEARS AFTER THIS LAWSUIT WAS PUT AGAINST THEM AND THE PEOPLE AT GMC DIDN'T EVEN BOTHER TO TELL ME ABOUT IT'S UNSAFE PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING NOR DID IT COME UP WITH ME CHECKING ON THIS VEHICLE. IF I KNEW I COULD GO AFTER THEM TO GET MY 5,500 THAT I PUT DOWN ON THIS VEHICLE AND MY MONEY BACK FOR MY CAR NOTES I HAVE BEEN PAYING SINCE MARCH OF THIS YEAR, I WOULD!!! IF THEY CARED ABOUT THE WELL-BEING OF HUMAN LIFE THEY WOULD NOT STILL BE SELLING ANY OF THE VEHICLES THAT ARE HAVING THESE PROBLEMS TIL THEY RESOLVE THEM!!! AT LOW RATES OF SPEED WHEN MAKING A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN THE CAR LOSES POWER STEERING FOR A COUPLE SECONDS THEN REENGAGES. THIS CAUSES YOU TO OVER STEER ONCE THE POWER STEERING REENGAGES WHICH ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS CAUSES NEAR ACCIDENTS WITH OTHER CARS ON THE ROAD. THE PROBLEM IS OCCURRING MUCH MORE FREQUENTLY NOW AND WE ARE TAKING IT TO THE DEALER TOMORROW. WE HAVE HAD THE RACK AND PINION LOOKED AT AND REPLACED BY THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS BECAUSE OF LOW WHINING NOISES AT LOW SPEEDS AND OTHER PROBLEMS.

VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED FROM UNION PARK GMC DEALERSHIP IN WILMINGTON DELWARE ON 7/24/15. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC ON 7/27/15 AFTER NOTICIG A WHINNING NOISE WHEN STEERING AT LOW SPEEDS. HE RECOMMENDED RETURNING OIT TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE DEALER MADE NO REPAIR AND CLAIMED "ALL THESE ACADIAS HAVE THIS WHINING NOISE". I THEN TOOK IT TO MARYLAND STATE INSPECTION WHERE IT FAILED INSPECTION DUE TO "MOISTURE ON RACK", INDICATING A LEAK AND REPLACEMENT OF RACK REQUIRED TO PASS INSPECTION. DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT CLAIMS IT VIEWED THE BOOT AND FOUND A STAIN AND REFERRED ME TO TSB # 3352321. HOWEVER, IT WAS NOT MADE CLEAR IF THEY ACTUALLY PULLED THE BOOT AND INSPECTED THE RACK AND INSIDE OF BOOT TO DETERMINE IF FLUID WAS ACCUMULATING INSIDE THE BOOT. THEY ALSO CLAIMED THEY DO NOT GUARANTEE VEHICLE WILL PASS INSPECTION. I DID NOTICE THAT WHEN THE DELAER RETURNED THE VEHICLE IT HAD ADDED POWER STERRING FLUID, RASING THE LEVEL FROM JUST BELOW MIN TO JUST ABOVE MAX LEVEL.

MY MECHANIC IS AT A LOSS AS TO WHAT IS WRONG BECAUSE A) THERE ARE NO CODES THAT ARE COMING UP AND B) THE STALLING IS VERY SPORADIC, IT WILL DO IT TWICE IN ONE WEEK AND THEN NOT DO IT AGAIN FOR 3 WEEKS. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR ABOUT 5 MONTHS AND IT HAS HAPPENED ABOUT A DOZEN TIMES. I PULLED THE CARFAX AND CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THAT DID ALL THE WORK ON IT WITH THE PREVIOUS OWNER. AFTER SPEAKING WITH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, I WAS TOLD THAT THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS AND THE DEALER COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO MALFUNCTION WHILE THEY HAD IT IN FOR SERVICING. ALTHOUGH SHE DIDN'T TELL ME EVERYTHING THAT THEY DID TO TRY AND RESOLVE THE ISSUE, I DO KNOW THAT THEY WENT AS FAR AS TO REPLACE THE CYLINDER HEAD HOPING THAT WOULD SOLVE THE ISSUE, BUT CLEARLY IT DID NOT. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE, I HAVE ALMOST HIT SEVERAL CARS DUE TO THE FACT THAT WHEN THE CAR STALLS, EVERYTHING LOCKS UP AND YOU HAVE NO CONTROL OVER ANYTHING.

AN INTERMITTENT STEERING ISSUE DEVELOPED WHEREBY STEERING INPUT WOULD BECOME RESTRICTED AND PREVENT THE DRIVER FROM ADDING OR SUBTRACTING STEERING. THE ISSUE PRESENTS DURING TURNING AND CORNERING AND RESULTED IN NUMEROUS HAZARDOUS SITUATIONS AND ONE SERIOUS NEAR MISS. UPON INSPECTION BY A MECHANIC, I WAS ADVISED THAT THE ENTIRE RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. IT IS NOT CLEAR WHETHER THE RACK AND PINION WERE INHERENTLY DEFECTIVE, OR THE CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGE OF OTHER STEERING DEFECTS WHICH IS VERY CONCERNING. UPON FURTHER REVIEW, I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS MODEL YEAR ALONG WITH SEVERAL OTHERS HAVE BEEN PLAGUED WITH DEFECTIVE STEERING ISSUES. GIVEN THE APPARENT INCIDENCE RATE AND THE HIGH RISK NATURE OF THE ISSUE, I AM SURPRISED AND DISAPPOINTED THIS HAS NOT CULMINATED IN A RECALL.

LAST JUNE DURING A ROUTINE INSPECTION THE DEALER TOLD ME I HAD A SLIGHT LEAK IN THE RACK AND PINION. I QUESTIONED HIM ON WHY A VEHICLE WITH APPROX 48K MILES COULD HAVE A PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT GM ALLOWS SOME LEAKAGE. SHORTLY THERE AFTER I NOTICED AN OCCASIONAL RATCHETING FEEL IN THE STEERING WHEEL. I THEN WOULD EXPERIENCE SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHERE I MOMENTARILY WOULD LOSE POWER STEERING,THE BEGINNING OF THIS YEAR I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GM STATING THAT THERE MAY BE A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND TO BRING IT TO THE DEALER.I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THERE IS A CHARGE OF $130 TO DETERMINE IF IT IS THE PUMP AND NO CHARGE IF IT WAS BAD. I WAS TOLD THE PUMP WAS IN FACT BAD AND THAT THE RACK ALSO NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1400. I POLITELY TOLD THEM THAT THE RACK SHOULD NOT LEAK AT 56K MILES AND THE PUMP CAUSED THE PROBLEM AND THAT GM SHOULD PAY THE ENTIRE BILL AFTER I WAS TOLD THAT A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF LEAKAGE WAS OK. THEY SAID GM WOULD ONLY COVER THE COST OF PUMP. I ALSO REPLACED 4 LOW BEAM HEAD LIGHTS IN THE PAST YEAR.

THE FRONT OF THE ACADIA WAS CRASHED INCLUDING THE FRONT BUMPER, RADIATOR, HEAD LAMPS, ENGINE, DRIVER SIDE FRONT PANEL, PASSENGER SIDE PANEL, AND THE FRAME. NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED DURING THIS CRASH. THERE IS A RECALL ON THE SIDE AIRBAGS AT THIS TIME BUT NOT THE FRONT AIRBAGS. THERE IS NO RECALL ON THE POWER STEERING ON THIS GM MODEL. I HAVE HAD EXPERIENCED THE POWER STEERING INTERMITTENTLY FAIL WHEN TURNING BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT. MY DAUGHTER ALSO EXPERIENCED POWER STEERING FAILURE ONE WEEK PRIOR TO MY SON'S ACCIDENT. A MONTH LATER THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS COMPLETELY OUT(THE VERY FIRST TIME I TURNED IT ON), AND A MONTH LATER THE ENTIRE CAR IS WHINING VERY LOUDLY WHICH I AM ASSUMING IS THE RACK AND PINION FINALLY GIVING OUT. I HAVE SPENT 20K ON THIS VEHICLE AND HAD IT FOR 6 MONTHS NOW. IN THAT 6 MONTHS IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH. THAT IS ON TOP OF THE 3 RECALLS IT HAS BEEN IN FOR IN THE 6 MONTH PERIOD ALSO. NOW IT HAS TO GO BACK IN TO FIX THIS RACK AND PINION. THANKFULLY I PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, BUT THIS STEERING COLUMN IS NOT ALL COVERED. I AM BEYOND FRUSTRATED AND TIRED OF THROWING IN THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS WHEN I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME, AND THIS REPLACING OF THE STEERING RACK IS A BIT RIDICULOUS SINCE THE VEHICLE DOES NOT EVEN HAVE 100K MILES ON IT. I WAS TOLD IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE, BUT WHEN I DONT HAVE AN EXTRA FEW THOUSAND DOLLARS TO THROW INTO IT AFTER PUTTING A HUGE DOWNPAYMENT ON IT, AND HAVING A BRAND NEW FORD VEHICLE FOR 9 YEARS AND NEVER HAVING TO PUT A DIME INTO IT. CAR SLOWS DRAMATICALLY AND COMES TO A STOP. HOWEVER, THIS TIME I WAS ABLE TO STEER CAR OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH NO PROBLEM. HEAVY SMOKE WAS ALSO COMING FROM THE EXHAUST AND THE CAR SMELLED UNUSUAL ON THE INTERIOR. AFTER WAITING 3 HOURS FOR A TOW (GM ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE), THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. TWO FUEL INJECTORS WERE FOUND LEAKING (# 1 AND 3) AND WERE REPLACED. FUEL INJECTORS 2, 4, 5, AND 6 WERE REBUILT. THIS SAME VEHICLE HAD TWO FUEL INJECTORS (#3 AND 5) REPLACED IN AUGUST 2011 WHEN THIS SAME CHAIN OF EVENTS OCCURRED (PREVIOUSLY REPORTED). I AM CONCERNED AS TO WHY FUEL INJECTORS IN THIS VEHICLE CONTINUE TO FAIL CAUSING THE ENGINE TO FLOOD WITH FUEL. WHEN TRYING TO STEER THE VEHICLE BELOW 5 MPH'S (ENGINE BELOW 1200 RPM), THE STEERING WHEEL WILL LOCK UP AND IS VERY HARD TO STEER. MY WIFE HAD THIS HAPPEN TO HER THE FIRST WHEN SHE WAS PULLING INTO OUR DRIVEWAY (THANKFULLY IT DID NOT HAPPEN IN THE CITY). SHE TOLD ME ABOUT IT, SO I THEN TOOK IT TO TOWN SHOPPING. IT TOOK A WHILE BEFORE IT HAPPENED TO ME, BUT FINALLY IT DID WHEN I WAS MAKING A TIGHT RIGHT HAND TURN INTO A MENARDS PARKING LOT. I STARTED THE TURN AND NOTICE INSTANTLY THAT I HAD NO STEERING. I ALMOST HIT ANOTHER CAR BECAUSE I WAS NOT ABLE TO STEER SHARP ENOUGH OR FAST ENOUGH FOR THE RIGHT HAND TURN. AFTER THAT, I GOT IN THE PARKING LOT AND DID A LITTLE TESTING. I FIGURED OUT THAT THE STEERING WAS LOCKED, AND IF THE ENGINE WAS REVVED OVER 1200 ENGINE RPM, THE STEERING WOULD COME BACK SLIGHTLY. AFTER SEVERAL TRIES, IT DID COME BACK. DON'T KNOW IF I CAN TRUST IT TO WORK ALL THE TIME??? IT APPEARS THE PROBLEM IS WORSE AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN RUN FOR A WHILE. WITH COLD TEMPS IT WORKS UNTIL THE STEERING SYSTEM WARMS., THEN PROBLEM IS RANDOM. SCARY!!! I HAD JUST PICKED UP MY CAR FROM HAVING THE A/C COMPRESSOR AND CONDENSOR REPLACED AND I WAS DOING A U TURN INTO A GAS STATION WHEN THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. I HAD TO MANUALLY TURN THE WHEEL. WITH MY TWO CHILDREN IN THE BACK I ALMOST WENT INTO A DITCH. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND TOOK IT IN FOR THEM TO LOOK AT. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE POWER STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY WAS LEAKING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THEY FOUND THAT WHEN THE VES VALVE WAS COMMANDED SHUT, THE VALVE WOULD NOT RE-OPEN. THE RACK WAS ALSO LEAKING ON THE LEFT SIDE. THEY REPLACED THE GEAR ASSEMBLY, SET TOE AND FLUSHED THE SYSTEM. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN AND SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO FOR A RECALL. *TR

THEY DID STATE IT WAS A MECHANICAL FAILURE IN THE POWER STEERING ISSUE OF THE VEHICLE BUT NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED AS IF YET. ANY HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THIS HAS CREATED SEVERAL HAZARDOUS SITUATIONS WHILE MAKING LEFT HAND TURNS WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND RIGHT HAND TURNS AT INTERSECTIONS WITH WAITING TRAFFIC ON THE ADJACENT STREET. THE CAR WAS REPAIRED AT A LOCAL SHOP BY REPLACING THE POWER STEERING PUMP. I WAS TOLD THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND THE NEW PUMP IS A MORE ROBUST DESIGN. THE HEADLIGHT WENT OUT AND GMC QUOTED ME AT APPROXIMATELY $120 TO REPLACE. HUSBAND ATTEMPTED TO REPLACE IT BUT YOU HAD TO TAKE OFF THE WHEEL IN ORDER TO GET TO THE ACTUAL LIGHT. I GAVE GMC THE GO AHEAD TO REPLACE AND THEY CALLED ME BACK AND TOLD ME THAT THE WIRING HAD MELTED AND THAT IT WOULD NOW BE OVER $300 TO DO IT. I TOLD THEM NO AND MADE A COMPLAINT. THEY CALLED ME A FEW DAYS LATER TELLING ME THEY WOULD DO IT BUT I HAD TO PAY $50 DEDUCTIBLE (ASSUMING THEY WENT THROUGH SOME TYPE OF WARRANTY). IT EVENTUALLY BECAME A RECALL AND I AM NOW LOOKING INTO GETTING REIMBURSED FOR MY $50. NOTICED MY CAR STARTED OVER HEATING AND TOOK IT INTO A MECHANIC FRIEND, LET US KNOW THAT THE WATER PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED THIS WAS AT APPROX 45,000 MILES. I DID MY RESEARCH AND THE GMC WARRANTY COVERED THE COST. AT APPROXIMATELY 56-57,000 MILES THE CAR STARTED MAKING A WHINING NOISE WHEN DRIVEN SLOW OR FIRST THING IN THE MORNING WHEN IT WAS COLD. TOOK IT IN TO GMC TO GET IT CHECKED OUT AND IT TURNS OUT THAT THE STEERING RACK HAD A LEAK ON EACH SIDE OF THE WHEELS AND PINIONS, AND POWER STEERING PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. QUOTE ALMOST $1500 DOLLARS. I COULD NOT AFFORD THAT PRICE SO TOOK IT BACK TO MY MECHANIC TO SEE IF IT WOULD BE CHEAPER. HE ENDED UP REPLACING THE PINIONS AND RACK BUT SAID THE PUMP DID NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED AND ENDED PAYING $600 OUT OF POCKET. I'M HOPING THAT GMC WILL SEE THAT MANY OF US ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND WILL MAKE IT A RECALL. I WILL NOT BE BUYING ANYMORE GMC VEHICLES. AFTER THAT, IT WAS A MULTITUDE OF PROBLEMS. STEERING RACK/POWER STEERING REPLACED AND 'FIXED', ELECTRIC STABILITRAK LIGHTS GOING ON AND OFF, DVD PLAYER NOT PLAYING PROPERLY. ALL THINGS THE DEALER HAD SAID THEY FIXED (AFTER THEY WHISPERED THAT I SHOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT AN AMERICAN CAR.) NOW THE TRANSMISSION IS ACTING UP. ROLLING DOWN AN INCLINE WHEN I WAS TRYING TO BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPOT. THE DEALER TOLD ME IT WAS FINE AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUES I WAS HAVING. I'VE WRITTEN TWO LETTERS TO GM CORPORATE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SUB-STANDARD VEHICLE. THEY WERE HELPLESS AND WILL NOT ASSIST IN ANY REPLACEMENT OF THE CAR. DEALER WILL REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY HOWEVER, THE REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE CLEARLY NOT FIXING THE PROBLEM. POSSIBLE LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL WHEN THE RACK FAILS COMPLETELY AND SUDDENLY. MORE OFTEN, THE RACK WILL LEAK INTERNALLY GIVING OWNER "TIME" TO REPAIR. NHTSA NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE AS THE CARS AFFECTED ARE NUMEROUS. THEY INCLUDE THE ACADIA, THE SATURN OUTLOOK, BUICK ENCLAVE AND A SIMILAR CHEVROLET MODEL (LAMBDA CHASSIS) THAT UTILIZES THE SAME COMPONENT. I OWN A 2009 GMC ACADIA FWD SLT-1, THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW. WE HAD MINOR ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE AND UNTIL RECENTLY, WERE VERY SATISFIED WITH THE BUILD QUALITY, PERFORMANCE, AND THE VEHICLE OVERALL. WHILE EN-ROUTE TO PICK UP OUR KIDS, THE POWER STEERING APPEARED STIFF. THERE WAS NO POWER ASSIST OF THE STEERING AT LOW / IDLE ENGINE SPEEDS, WHICH MADE SLOW MANEUVERING EXTREMELY DIFFICULT, IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE. THE PERFORMANCE OF THE POWER STEERING BECAME WORSE AND WORSE, TO THE POINT WHERE MY WIFE FELT UNSAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. SHE WAS UNCOMFORTABLE TURNING AT INTERSECTIONS, AND MANEUVERING IN SLOW-SPEED CONDITIONS SUCH AS PARKING LOTS. WE IMMEDIATELY SCHEDULED A SERVICE APPOINTMENT WITH OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THE SERVICE TEAM ADVISED US THAT THE STEERING PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALERSHIP DECLINED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE AT THEIR COST BECAUSE IT WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED ON 9/30/2008; IT IS ONLY TWO AND HALF YEARS NEW WITH 46,491 MILES. IT IS DISAPPOINTING THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD REQUIRE SUCH A REPAIR. YOU MAY OR MAY NOT BE AWARE THAT THIS DEFECT WITH THE POWER STEERING PUMP IS BEING REPORTED BY MANY ACADIA OWNERS. IN ADDITION, THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE STEERING RACK THAT WAS DOCUMENTED IN A SERVICE BULLETIN. WE INFORMED THE SERVICE AREA OF THE UNUSUAL NOISES BUT THEY STATED THAT THERE IS NO CLEAR CONNECTION WITH THIS REPAIR. AT THIS TIME, THEY RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE STEERING PUMP AT A COST OF $522.16. THIS IS CLEARLY A DESIGN/MANUFACTURING PART ISSUE; GM SHOULD PUBLISH A SERVICE ALERT TO WARN OWNERS OF THIS KNOWN ISSUE THAT CAN LEAD TO SERIOUS INJURY IF FAILURE OCCURS. *TR
