I have spoken to our local dealership several times, called the GMC Manufacturer today, 8/19/24, and was told there is "no remedy yet; they are working on it. With this enormous safety recall, it is hazardous for drivers to utilize their vehicles without remedy. What can you do to get this pushed through? How many lawsuits will it take for GMC to "remedy" this issue?

The letter said the inflator my rupture during deployment sending shrapnel (metal fragments) to the vehicle interior resulting in serious injury and/or death to the driver or other occupants. The representative said GMC has no date when parts may become available, that I would get a letter when parts are available. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AND A KNOWN SAFETY HAZARD BY GMC. It is unacceptable that drivers of the impacted vehicles are expected to drive with a potentially dangerous (or fatal) recall, with no timeline of resolution. I expect the NHTSA to hold GMC accountable, and demand an immediate resolution to all vehicles impacted by recall #N232404980. WITH THE RISK OF DEATH, OUR ACADIA IS NOT ROAD SAFE, OFF THE ROAD UNTIL FIXED. OUR GM DEALER WILL NOT TAKE IT IN A TRADE FOR A NEW CAR AND THE DEALER WILL NOT GIVE US A LOANER UNTIL THE CAR IS SAFE.

I'm reporting on the timeliness of known recall #N232404980. It has been about a year since I've received the initial recall notice. I've contacted the dealer twice to see to check the status of the recall and they have stated that the parts are not yet available and they don't know when the parts will become available. I contacted the dealer approx. 6-7 months after receiving the initial recall notice and then again about 5 months later (that was today). The current status of the recall is: "Recall INCOMPLETE. Remedy not yet available" I'm not sure what is considered 'timely' with a recall of this nature but after a year it might be prudent for the manufacturer to issue an update stating the time frame when the parts should start to come available. While looking for this information, I attempted to find the information on the manufacturer's website but the page timed out and I was not able to find out any more information about this recall from the manufacturer or other sources. I found the following statement from the NHTSA while seeking information from the NHTSA website about this recall: "If the manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for your vehicle in a timely manner, please contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at: 1-888-327-4236 or TTY: 1-800-424-9153 or file an online complaint with NHTSA. " This is the reason I am filing this online complaint. I would like the dealer to provide an update on when the parts will be available for this recall. It's a little uncomfortable knowing that we're driving around with an instrument (airbag/airbag inflator) that is supposed to save lives but it may actually cause death instead, if activated.

Safety Risk Description An inflator rupture may cause metal fragments to pass through the airbag and into the vehicle interior, which may result in injury or death to vehicle occupants. Based on the safety risk description this sounds pretty serious, and yet there is no remedy.

We are not able to get a recall completed with a problem known to cause death or injury if left unrepaired - the recall was listed publicly last May 2023 and no remedy is available to dealers to repair yet

In June 2023, I was notified of recall N232404980. The reason for recall is, a driver’s-side front airbag inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, resulting in serious injury or death. It has been 5 months and the manufacturer has no current plan in place to replace the driver’s airbag module. After speaking with a GMC Customer Assistance Center representative today, 11/17/2023, I was told that there is no estimated time when the repair will be available. Based on the possibility of death, five months and no plan for when a repair/replacement will be available feels negligent and as though the repairs are not being completed in a reasonable time.

I have to work and take care of my children.
